She's great! I took her Pysch 100 Hybrid class. She is very clear. Very kind teacher. I would day class is generally pretty easy as long as you to class and pay attention. Assignments weren't so bad. She is very understanding. She gives extra credit. Plus she's a total babe.

Pitkanen is a very nice lady! She is pretty attractive too. If you do all of the work on time you will have no problem. There are also a lot of extra credit opportunities on most assignments, and tests. Recommended!

Great teacher! I took her psych class at Seattle Central as a prerequisite and ended up becoming really interested in psychology. She also managed to cover basic neuroscience concepts in a clear, easy to comprehend fashion. Go to class, read the textbook chapters. Easy 4.0 if you take advantage of extra credit opportunities.

I got really annoyed when a couple of the students in the class who slack off don't do the assignments and Ilona is easy to convince to extend the date. It's not fair to those who've done it on time.

Ilona is an easy teacher by all standards. She is eager about what she does and can be quite supportive if you ever need her help. She's also rather young and thus gives off the vibe of being "hip" without overdoing it, which is kinda cool. I find that she looks pretty and dresses nicely, but I guess no one cares about that. Discussions are interesting subjects both from the book and outside research topics, EASY TESTS once a week (do study guide and you're golden), no final or midterms. A! I learned TONS in this class! Ilona is a very good and knowledgable professor, but her classes are very boring. I rarely used the textbook because her lectures cover practically everything on the tests. The final is not cumulative, and a study guide is given for every test. Overall, I would recommend this class as an easy A, as long as you attend every lecture.

She was an awesome instructor, super sweet and helpful. There are labs and workbooks that need to be completed, she doesn't check whether or not you do them but she puts one to two questions about them on the exam, they are a little time consuming, but she's a great teacher and the class was interesting!

Taking her intro to psychology class was amazing! She lectures off her powerpoints and it's super clear and easy to understand. I just had to reread my notes to study for tests and did well on all of them. Take her class! She's wonderful.

Failed Psych so I took it with Ilona, this time LOVED it. Weekly discussion posts but they're on interesting topics that get you thinking. Paper assignment on a topic of your choice, easy grader imo. Great class, requires you to put in effort but its not unbearable. Weekly quizzes but they're not bad, just look at the book before hand and ur fine.

I took her hybrid class. The class was consisted of 4 exams, 1 paper and some assignments. The workload is acceptable. Her lectures were great. She knows the topics very well. If you don't understand some parts, just put up your hand or ask her after class, she will answer your questions. Besides, she offered lots of extra credits in her class.

I loved Ilona! We had 4 exams which are not hard if you go to class, take notes, and study. There are also one page papers every week and if you show that you did your research and show an understanding of the topic you're writing about, you'll get an A every time. I didn't need my textbook at all. She gives so many extra credit opportunities.

She was SO SO SO organized and it was one of the best online classes I have ever taken! There is a lot of reading but it is spread out over the week so you can work at it at your own pace and it is also very interesting. Post in weekly discussion & take the quiz. 1 paper. Easy (and interesting) class! Would take again!!

I loved this class, it was incredibly interesting and she is a very nice teacher who goes through all the material thoroughly. We have an assignment due every week and exams are mostly multiple choice w two or three writing questions. It's not too difficult to handle as long as you show up to her lectures. Take notes!

I really enjoyed this professor. I always found her lectures useful, and never boring. I got a lot out of class with her, and as long as you are attentive and you show up for class on time, you should be fine. For the textbook, it's good to have one, but in my class we don't actually use it other than for studying purposes.

I absolutely love her! Her lectures are fun and the exams have a ton of extra credit. There is a text book that has reading for every exam but if you take good notes and use the study guide then reading isn't needed.

The dashboard in canvas is really accurate and you'll never feel lost, but if it happens she'll be willing to help via email or in person. I really enjoyed this class.

I took her online class and she was great! She explained clearly what she expected of everyone and held to it in a friendly manner. She constantly gave reminders of when things were due so that we wouldn't be late. Weekly discussions were held and everyone had to post at least 5 times. She even posted replies to students in discussions!

She sometimes takes attendance so while it's not mandatory I highly recommend going. Especially since what she talks about in class more is usually on the tests. Quite a lot of papers, but none were graded harshly. Exams made sense. Awesome.

Ilona is a great teacher. Her lectures are interesting, not only because of the topics, but also because they involve some cool assignments, and she is funny, has personal experiences that relate. Tests (50pts) have 6pt extra credit opportunities! There isn't much homework (for hybrid) - mostly taking textbook notes, online quizzes, and research.

Ilona is a great professor. She is clear with assignments, makes sure to explain everything thats due the day before and even sends out messages when things are due. Her lectures are easy to understand, full of concise material with tons of background knowledge. With her notes, everything in the material is very easy to understand.

Ilona is on the younger side, passionate but a little dorky, but is extremely organized, driven, and passionate. In-class assignments are given randomly on some days, which contribute to your attendance score (which weighs pretty heavily). She also allows a full page of notes for every exam, which is definitely nice. Recommended!

There are 8 lecture quizzes which is really easy, 8 online quizzes and 1 final. There are so many extra credits. 1 paper about psychological disorders. Great class but textbook is required. Be ready to read 40+ pages a week sometimes more. Mandatory attendance or you fail the class, tests online and open book. Lectures every class with pertinent material to the tests. Some test questions rely on what you read in the text book, not what you heard in class. Great teacher! Would 100% recommend.

Ilona is awesome! Her classes are interesting and easy to understand. I walked out of the 2 courses I took with her with lasting knowledge that has greatly helped me with other psych courses. Few assignment that are short essays. Took her for psych 100 and 200 and the classes are nearly identical teaching styles, except 200s tests are essays.

This was a fun and enjoyable class and I learned a lot of psychology concepts that I otherwise wouldn't have learned myself. I took this class purely for the credit, but Ilona was very helpful and made everything clear in the syllabus. The grading is fair and the materials are presented very nicely. Take this class!

She's a bit harsh on grading, but overall, a good teacher. You won't struggle too much. If you just do work and don't miss anything, you'll likely get an A. Her class is not like a piece of cake but it's a fair amount of work for a fair grade.

Easy A as long as you do all the homework (there is quite a lot of online book quizzes and work but it is easy). Gives tons of EC, ended up with more than 100%. Was able to skip the final week and still have an A.

Ilona was super sweet. She didn't care if your assignments were a bit late, as long as you did them. She knows that her students have lives outside of school, and she honors that. Homework was straightforward with clear expectations. We need more teachers like her that care about their students.

Wonderful! The best psych. class/teacher I have had at BC. She is so nice! The only slight negative is there is a lot of reading - the chapters are like 60-ish pages per week. The textbook is provided. Usually two to three assignments per week. She is very big on APA citations. Overall, it was a great class, decent workload, and interesting topics!

This class was very worth my time. The 2-hour class period went by very quickly because the information was so interesting. The professor would lecture, show videos, and have us do a paper assignment for attendance every class day. There are chapter assignments due once a week. Overall, the class and assignments were easy, and it was fun to learn.

She knows the material very well is is easy to contact. Homework for this class was a lot of reading (but nothing difficult), 2 check quizzes, a discussion post, and a reflection every week and sometimes some additional assignments. She responds to discussion posts with lots of feedback and information. Deadlines are not very flexible, be prepared.

Took this class 1st quarter as a running start student and it was amazing. lots of reading and short videos you need to watch but they are interesting. plan ahead and manage your time its an easy A. The teacher knows her stuff and gives good feedback. No Final + last project is to make a meme which was really fun.take this class you wont regret it!

Expectations are clearly communicated and assignments are reasonable per week. I was nervous when I saw the amount of assignments per week but they are all explained well, relate to the content, and the concepts are easy to grasp with her style.

This is by far my favorite professor. I took three classes from her and learned so much! She is very kind, knowledgeable, and communicative. She does everything right! I cant think of a single negative thing about her or anything she could possibly improve on.

Professor Pitkanen was very passionate about psychology and gave several examples of the content she was teaching. Everyday, there is a completion-graded partner/group assignment which is worked on throughout the class period. The tests are generally easy if you study and there is a lot of extra credit offered.

This Professor is very knowledgeable and seems passionate about the subject, which makes the class more enjoyable! Attendance is mandatory because we do these in-class worksheets that count towards our attendance grade, but I think you can miss 2 classes. So far though, there's about 3-5 assignments per week and lots of reading, it's manageable.

A great class for those who needs social science credit or want to learn more about psychology. Be aware that it has quite a lot of readings and lecture videos, but it is a reasonable amount for a psyc class. 2-3 labs per week, 1 video annotation, 1 discussion & reflection per week. (I took it in summer so it was faster) Overall 100% recommended.
