Hard to understand at first, but you get used to him. He is very helpful and wants you to do well in his class. One the the few teachers that actually understands and remembers what it is like to be a student. Very nice guy who wants to help!!!
Good teacher, but the class was the worst!!! I hated it, but Alam was helpful with questions.
Class was hard but he was very willing to help
Really wants students to do well and makes himself available more than any professor i've ever met! Is a little hard to understand sometimes, but it's very easy to get used to! Would def. take a class from him again!
Boring and not very helpful. Quite intimidating also. Hard tests!
He is a really good teacher and explains things really well. However, his tests are hard.
Barely speaks understandable english, writes on the board illegibly, and acts like you are retarded if you ask any question, including asking what he just wrote or said. Was not in his office during office hours twice after i made an appointment with him.
Very hard...take bus stats at Hawkeye
He teaches as though it is a graduate class. In order to do well you must read the book and be prepared to spend a lot of time studying with others. His lectures are not great but he is willing to clarify things during his office hours.
Teaches a little fast, the examples in class are very helpful. Keep up with the chapters. Assigned problems are not graded but a little helpful. Test come straight fromt he lectures. Missing just one class could hurt- alot.
No matter what, I could not pass his test. I did all the work, went to every class, and still it did not help. Take someone else!
Imam is a nice guy who give lots of examples, and is willing to help you out. Material is just hard to learn. He gives you the tools to do the best that you can.
I believe that he was a good teacher. His test were not easy but it is a hard class. I would take him again.
Take anyone else that you possibly can. His tests are way too hard and he teaches as if you're at his Ph.D. level. Not very helpful.
Very difficult class. He gives lots of examples in class and it doesn't seem that hard. When you get to the tests, it's not what you went over in class and expects you to understand at his level. Would reccommend not taking him.
I thought that it was a hard class, but you get out of it what you put into it, with our class he had a lot of "class time", not just office hours to help, and he made it easier for me to understand what i was doing, and i am by no means a math/
Hard to understand his English. Not organized and prepared for class. Hard to understand his writing. Copy material for exams from other books. Does not know what he is asking in the exam. I have a very bad experience. Not a good communicator. Not a effec
He was so helpful and willing to make time for students. He was difficult, but I felt well prepared for exams. However, the final is brutal.
He is great and willing to help
He is a good teacher who explains the material pretty well. His tests are hard and he puts questions on there that he expects you to miss. He is very dry and dull but sometimes cracks some dry jokes. has tons of examples and has review sessions.
Tough professor. Not good at providing additional methods to solve problems. Tests are difficult.
Alam is very nice and wants his students to do well. Tests are a little difficult, but everything comes from notes and class examples. Explains things very well. Great professor!
I had Mupasiri the semester before and he is 100 times better. Has in class examples that he goes over so if you go to class you should have no problem. The tests are over the notes and have problems just like the sample ones that you do in class. I would recommend him.
He is a very good teacher...very funny. Explains things well and will take time after class to go over things. Test are kind of hard, but if you redo the problems you did in class you will be fine.
acted like i was an idiot when i was confused
Is willing to listen to other points of view and is not afraid to be challenged, intellectually. Provides many examples in class and assigns problems (not required) to assist you with the material. Is very knowledgeable in the subject matter. Course material is fairly difficult but if you attend class, it will benefit you a great deal.
He is an awesome teacher. I took stats with a different prof and failed and now I'm getting a B in his class. Hard to understand sometimes but he goes over the material so you will understand it. He's always willing to help if you need it.
Got a B with him after I failed with Uyar. Great teacher, very helpful, learned alot.
The tests in this class are impossible. Even if you know the information he does everything he can to make it so you aren't able to get the answers. No Joke.
This class was incredibly difficult. Even if you feel like you know the information the is something about the exams that makes it impossible. Good Luck to anyone who takes this class.
I thought professor Alam was a good teacher. The tests are not that hard as long as you study for them a lot and he's more than willing to help anyone that doesn't understand the material.
Very nice guy that explains the material very clearly. Interested in student learning. Gives examples that are helpful. Those that go to class, put forth effort seem to do well.
Alam is a good teacher and he wants all of his students to do well. Unfortunatly i found his tests to be extremely difficult, as did the rest of my class. Do not underestimate the tests, and study hard. He also does not curve anything.
Very hard! couldnt agree more with the words of a past writer. I thought that I was well prepared coming into his tests but it definately did seem as if he tried making it impossible to get the correct ans. I knew all the formulas going into tests but it seemed as if he tried confussing problems to make you use the incorrect formula...good luck
He is a pretty good teacher, I learned thing pretty easily! Tests arn't to bad just as long as you understand how to do the problems! I definity recommend him!
This class is pretty hard! If you pay attention and attend you'll do fine, but even if you do slack off you can go in and talk with him! He's very helpful. He's really funny too, he makes the class laugh!
Not a good prof. Stray from him. Not only is he hard to understand, but his tests include things that you could never possible even know. Plus he grades horribly. Sooo stay away from this prof. Rumor has it that his wife is even harder to understand.
Awesome teacher. Goes out of his way to help you if you need it. Understood everything he taught in business statistics. I'm so glad I chose to take him for this class.
Great class. Provides many examples. If you need extra help he is very helpful during office hours. If you pay attention in class and take notes the tests shouldn't be a problem. 3 tests. 4 quizzes but drops 1
DO NOT TAKE IT WITH HIM! I went to every class, studied for every test and quiz and thought i knew everything but could not pass it no matter how hard i tried!
Look out on this professor, he can be hard to understand and tests are not something you can review the night before. You take a lot of notes, but he explains everything well and if you study hard you will do fine.
Good professor come to class take notes and you should be fine. 5 quizzes and 3 tests.
My favorite professor-if you show interest he will go endless lengths to help you. His tests are very straightforward - do the work, practice from the textbook and understand your notes and you'll do great. even if you hate stats.
Best Math teacher out there. Had him first semester and got an A. Go to every class, write down all the examples he does, and do all the practice problems he says you should before the test. I asked him about one question in the book he assigned and it ended up being on the test the next day. Also will curve tests, curved ours by 13% one time.
Alam is a very good math teacher. As long as you do the practice problems that he does in class you will get an easy A. For both of the tests so far he has given us 10 extra points each!
Had him for Business statistics Spring of 2010. I didn't do well in his course, but it was because of myself. He is actually a great instructor. If you do his practice problems, and read from the book you should do well. My problem was that I didn't get a book, and couldn't get one later on because it was too late to buy one (wasn't gonna pay 200$)
Very easy class. Very good professor! He is quite funny sometimes also. All you have to do is the practice problems he sends you in an E-Mail periodically to get an A in the course.
Writing can be difficult to read, teaches in class with electronic white board, tests contain 8 multiple choice and 3 problems all worth 100pts, important to attend every class and ask questions if you do not understand.
Couldn't understand a single word he said.
He's a great business stats teacher, and he will go over ANYTHING that will go for the test on class. You can ask him at any times if you have doubts. He assumes college students know more than we actually do. Book usage is not required, only if you want to do the practice problems (extra practice). It is not mandatory to get an A to have the book.
Alam is the man! Very easy class. He is also very funny and one of the nicest professors at UNI. Sure he might be a little hard to understand but you will get used to it. Plus statistics is not a hard class so you really do not have to even understand him or even go to class. I got a solid A in the class.
Alam was very strait forward with explaining statistics concepts. Loved how he related it to real world situations. Wished he would give a scheduled syllabus with problems so I could have worked ahead. Overall impressed!
Alam is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. I like how he uses his touch screen laptop to display stuff instead of the chalk board. I would highly recommend taking business stats with him!
Kind of hard to understand, but you get used to it. Not a bad teacher, his tests can be kind of tricky. Usually you have 3 problems you have to solve which aren't hard at all. But he has 8 mult choice questions which can be tricky. Overall if you pay attention and show up to class you will do fine. He is always willing to help too.
Imam is a great teacher. He is fun to listen to and is very helpful. I would take him for any class he teaches.
Never really use book. Make sure to go to lecture and then tests are right from that. Assigns practice problems but never looks at them or grades them. Tests are 8 mc and 3 problems that require work. Very specific on processes. English is good and you don't notice accent after first day of class.
Imam Is a great teacher and lectures aren't too bad. Your "homework" and quizzes are a key part of your grade. If you get Cs on the tests you can get a B I the class. Request practice tests for your class.
Easiest Busi. Stat ever. Come to class, do problems with him, you'll get a good grade.
Easy to understand the material and he's generous with grading. Going to class is important and doing the practice problems helps on tests. Easy quizzes and he only keeps the top three. Highly recommend taking business statistics with him!
Important to go to class and take notes. If he gives any practice problems or tests, do them because the test questions are very similar and sometimes identical. Only complaint is that the book was very expensive and I literally opened it one time.
Tests are 4 open ended questions. I usually got all the points on two of them, but would be completely lost on the other two. Study your notes in DETAIL and you will do better than me. Great guy, has lots of knowledge to share. Will break off into very interesting tangents sometimes.
If you have to take business statistics, I would recommend taking it with him. He wants his students to succeed and learn the material, which he knows very well. If everyone does poorly on a test, he will give the class a chance to redeem themselves by writing a short paper to add points onto the test(at least he did for us). Speaks perfect English
Imam is a pretty good teacher, the class (Microeconomics) was just VERY tough. If you aren't the most familiar with economics and business statistics, AVOID THIS CLASS. He definitely makes you work for your grade!! I ended up dropping halfway through the semester, along with about half of the class. If you don't go to class, you WILL fail.
Imam is a good guy. He directly lays out what needs to be done during lectures. I had him for Bus Stat and Micro. He curves the final grade slightly and you will get the grade that you earn. I had a B the whole time in Micro and ended up with an A-. I failed one exam in Bus Stat and still got an A. I highly recommend this professor.
He is a great teacher an definitely cares about his students and learning. He adds a lot of value to somewhat dry material and uses good examples to relate material to real life. Overall I would take a mother class with him. Very very smart guy who is a nice person.
Alam is the man, make sure you take him for Bus Stats. Some people think he is hard to understand but I loved his teaching style. Tests involved working out problems and not all multiple choice. Not an easy A but he is the best choice for Bus Stats.
Overall this is a tough course but Professor Alam does a great job of explaining and going through examples. Quizzes every once in a while that are super easy! Got around 70% on every exam and ended with a C+
The content wasn't as difficult as it could have been because he made it understandable. 3 written exams and a final, a few homework assignments from the book, not bad. If you don't understand something, he's more than willing to stay a few minutes after class to help.
He doesn't waste time. The second week of class we had a test. He expects you to be prepared. Make sure you understand the material in the previous lecture (intuitively) for the next class because it all builds. He is super willing to help, but you have to come to him first. He seems condescending in class, but he really is just trying to helpful.
Really need to do practice problems to do well. I feel that he graded tests pretty harshly. The material is hard so in order to do well you definitely need to put in work. He is pretty good at explaining new ideas. Don't recommend skipping class.
Prof. Alam is a super great guy. He expects a lot from his students and the class isn't really easy. You get a chance to get extra credit on the tests for a 1 page paper on a topic of his choice, so if you do well on the test and then the extra credit you can finish easily with an A. Use the practice tests and suggested problems and you'll be fine.
I would definitely not take Prof. Alam's class again. He does a decent job of presenting the material; however, he goes through it fairly quickly and over explains sometimes. The class is strictly test based and there is little to no extra credit given.
Greatly detailed
Mr. Alam was my favorite teacher this semester! I bought the book, wish I hadn't. I didn't use it a single time. But I attended class regularly and took good notes. He moves through the course quickly, but if you don't understand something he is accessible outside of class for questions. Responds to emails in a timely manner. I highly recommend!!!!
DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK!!! Just do the examples from class. He also will give extra points when the class average is very low. He really does want his students to succeed. It is a hard class, but put in some effort and you'll be ok! DO THE EXAMPLES FROM THE LECTURES TO STUDY!! I cannot stress this enough because it is exactly like the test!
He offers a lot of extra credit. There's some quizzes and exams. There's two assignments and an extra credit paper. He'll also randomly add extra points to your exam as well. He's a funny guy, and he cares about his students. Definitely an easy A if you work hard enough.
Class seemed tough, he is aware classes are boring and tries his best to make them interesting. Probably gave our class 15-20% increase through extra credit and the curve. You need to go to class, no homework, just suggested problems, tests are fair, again a lot of extra credit and a curve at the end. Ended with an A when I wouldve got a C.
Alam is a good guy, but I would try to avoid him for Bus Stats. The tests are extremely hard and the lectures are hardly helpful. Although he is extremely willing to help outside of class and gives MASSIVE curves on the test and final grades. You will probably pass but other professors are simply a lot easier.
I loved this class, probably my favorite this semester. He is a great teacher that gives plenty of examples. I used the book a few times but would have been fine without it. He offers extra credit after the bigger tests as well. He sends the notes in an email after every lecture too, but I would still recommend going to all of his lectures.
Amazing teacher and a must take. He wants the students to succeed and offers tons of EC. If you do the practice problems he gives you and skim your notes before the test then you will pass easy and likely with a A! So respected and such a great teacher, I would take again in a heartbeat.
I do not understand why Imam gets a bad rep. Hes awesome and gives 10 points extra credit on almost every exam. Bus stat is a hard class but he understands it. He does his best to help you understand the material while also making sure you pass
Lots of info covered in lecture. Stops along the way to make sure class understands info.
Professor Alam only gave 2 homework assignments, a midterm, a final, and a project that he grades for completion. I'm not usually one to complain about a light workload, but intro to econometrics is not the place for it. Exams aren't terribly hard, but it is difficult to study for them due to the lack of hw and no study guide/direction from him.
He goes fast but explains things very well. Also, he gives you practice problems with answers which are on the exam
Not good. He had us take a survey on his teaching and the class and spent an entire period dismissing our reviews of him. Sometimes hard to understand (not his fault) but he goes so fast during lectures and barely gives you any time to write. He teaches upper-level economics so he expects you to know all the basics. Overall, DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Gives extra credit, but its because his exam scores are horrible. He doesn't know how to teach the material to us and expected us to know things none of us knew dud to it being an intro course. Wouldn't recommend if you want to have a decent understanding of the material. But it's not bad if you're just trying to pass
The lecture is very much fast-paced and really pushed. He has a strong accent but tries to annunciate. I suggest sitting up front and attending PLUS review sessions. He doesn't give any points besides test and quizzes but If the class average is below 75% he will curve it.
You can tell he knows what he's talking about, but that doesn't mean he knows how to teach. Macro is already not the easiest, but when your professor races through notes, that doesn't help much. After sending out a survey about his teaching and going through answers with the class, he basically just said why what we said was wrong.
Imam Alam knows the material well but does not always relay it in an easily understandable way. Class lectures are pretty boring but you should go as he does give random extra credit only in class. The material (especially tests) is pretty difficult but if you go to the study sessions and The Learning Center you will do fine.
Imam Alam is a great professor who cares about his students and is understanding. Macroeconomics is a hard class to begin with, but Alam does a great job explaining the subject matter. His lectures are fast-paced and can be hard to keep up with sometimes, but pay attention and you will do fine.
Long, sometimes boring lectures but that is just the nature of macroeconomics. He displayed the content well in his lectures and uploaded his lecture notes. Everything tested was from the lectures and was relatively straightforward. Good guy.
Lectures were long but included almost everything that you would be tested on. Pay attention while in class, but if you miss it, he posts the lecture notes. It's easy to catch up if you were to miss any lectures. He would sometimes give credit for just showing up, so I would recommend going to each class.
Lectures the whole class but post lecture notes after class.
The class is very lecture-heavy and taking notes. I had to teach myself a lot of the material.
He has been the best professor I have had so far in my 3 years of schooling. He has the best lectures, very detailed steps, summarizes all key steps in lectures, and provides sufficient and good class example problems. Very little homework but invest plenty of time learning the key concepts/formulas from lectures.
Lectures are meh. Attendance is definitely not mandatory I skipped over half the semester. We had an amazing TA who I visited because she helped it all make sense to me. Overall he is a pretty good guy I just had a hard time understanding what was going on in class.
Entire class consists of lecture and occasional practice problems. Notes are very important, but he posts his notes online after the lecture. Review sessions are very helpful for his class but not essential. Lectures are quite boring and repetitive but most of the information is beneficial.
Fast-paced lectures, but if you stay engaged and use Unstuck study for study prep, you can do well in this challenging macro course. The professor cares and provides support, just be ready to put in the work.
His lectures and resources are helpful, especially if you're interested in the business world. Though lectures can feel long, the content is engaging. However, quizzes are tricky and require strong preparation—it's hard to score well without regular study and practice.
he's a great professor grading based on quizes and exams all of those are multiple choice questions
This course is required for all business majors, but it is difficult. If you didn't understand the prereq, be prepared to put in work to get a good grade. Imam Alam tries his best to explain the concepts, but some are just confusing. The weekly review sessions are helpful to gain a better understanding as well.
