Be prepared to read everything, study as much as possible and still get poor grades. Each question has about 3 or 4 right answers that can be argued, but his personal opinion is the correct answer. If you HAVE to take him, do not expect an A. You will have to TRY for a B.
Nice and super smart guy but his exams are close to impossible! Even logic and reasoning cannot get you past some of the questions. I have a marketing background and am familiar with definitions and concepts but even that wasnt enough in this class. However he was fair and would curve most of the exams with 4 points and also curved the final exam.
"... If the main purpose of taking the course is to be the best test-taker, my humble suggestion would be to perhaps reach out to a former "Hallmark actress" and/or a "desperate housewife" and I am certain both of them know someone who knows someone who can help people become good test-takers or may be even take the test for them. ... Imran"
I have been a sales and marketing professional who has owned my own company and also worked for several Fortune 20 companies. I read each chapter, listened to his lectures and studied the PowerPoints... still struggled for a B.. This prof is extremely condescending and rude. Tests dont reflect textbook or his notes in most cases.
Be ready to work your butt off for a low B. He is rude, condescending and his test (6) and a final do not reflect at all the book. He expects you to know everything from his perspective and will tell you in emails basically how you are garbage. His grades in exams are so low he had to give curves in one of the six.
Not sure what the other comments are referring to. I'm no marketing wiz, but found the class easy and straightforward. You want to pass? It's simple. Read the chapters he assigns, watch the lectures (2 per week about 30 minutes each) and then watch the lectures a second time before the test. That simple. I spent maybe 10 hrs per week and got an A.
This was my first MBA course ever and at the halfway point I was skeptical and would have had an average to below average rating of this professor. Course wise 6 quizzes, 4 papers, and a Final exam (which is a lot of work), BUT he did soften up with test curves and jokes. Overall good course! Also 80% of the class (over 150 people) got an A or B!
The course study material did not match what students are tested on. The professor is condescending and claims that he tries to promote comprehension instead of test taking. Avoid taking this course and this professor.
The material is easy but the exam questions are tricky. He would say it is to develop critical thinking but his exam questions are worded confusingly and the answers could go either way. He would rant on repetitively to make it seem he is doing his job teaching but he is just rambling.
Tests do not match what is lectured. The concepts are easy to understand for anyone, but passing of the tests is very hard due to trick questions. Not sure about passing the class, coming from a Business Major.
His tests are very hard due to the fact that the tests do not cover the material covered in the chapters. I agree with others that the concepts in the book are easy to understand, but the tests are difficult because you are being tested on things that are not covered in the reading or in the lectures.
He is a very poor instructor and routinely falls on the excuse that things are subjective and he is the subject matter expert. He refers to this line when giving test feedback on questions that he freely admits are opinion-based. To get it right, you have to guess his opinion (his words, not mine). He won't use Rubrics for objectivity either.
This is one of the hardest courses I have taken in my MBA program only because of the instructor. The exam questions are misleading, there's very little feedback provided, & the papers do not have a clear rubric. I'm not even sure how you should study for this course. You essentially need to take a guess and hope for the best. Stay away if you can!
Worst class in the whole MBA program. He prides himself on students doing poorly. He thinks making his course hard somehow gives it more prestige and means he is doing a better job of teaching. HIs grammar is poor so your instructions for papers and the test questions are hard to understand. Poor teacher that likes to talk, but not teach.
I've taken other marketing classes through the LSUS Online MBA program and have really enjoyed them. I found myself struggling through this class as the objectives weren't clear, lacked grading rubrics and the exams included new information not found in the readings or his long-winded lectures. If possible take this class through another teacher.
I read all the material and write notes during his moodle lectures. When the exams come up, there are questions of material that we did not even cover. I have taken other marketing classes as well as other MBA classes obtaining A's in all of them. This class has me struggling to get a C.
Although I studied the provided reading matterials, powerpoints, and listened to his long boring lectures it seemed as if none of this mattered becuse his exams were extremly subjective and asked questions on material that can not be found anywhere in material provided. I would take this course with someone else.
I had mixed feelings about this professor. As others have said, many of his test questions are subjective, and you need to get into his head to pick the right answer. On the other hand, he didn't just regurgitate a text book. He applied the topics to actual real-life situations. He does not spoon-feed test prep which other profs do in this program
Used real-life situations on exams to make you analyze the material and information provide it and apply to situations. Did not rely on just reading. Exams were in the tougher side because they were subjective but this is because he wants you to analyze and apply the information
A good teacher is the one who can explain things clearly so that students will understand and connect to the subject. Unfortunately, Khan Imran is not one of them. If Professor Khan reads this review, please consider to quit teaching; it's not your craft.
grading criteria were very tough to understand, the tests often had errors in them also. Extra credits given by the professor were needed in order for this class to produce a decent result.
I was excited to learn about marketing and was looking forward to this class; however, professor Khan made it extremely confusing and dislikable. The main reason is that the tests and book material are not connected. It was pure misery and unpleasant experience.
It was my last class in the MBA program, and it was the worst one. I wish I read the reviews before choosing the teacher. Without the curve and the extra credit, I probably won't pass the class. The professor's incompetency in English made the course confusing and unnecessarily complicated. Save time and energy and consider a different teacher.
Worst educational experience ever. If you are taking this class make sure you write down every word during the taped recordings and memorize the ppt slides. Professor more interested in proving how smart he was by making every test question a trick question. Very disengaging with demeanor towards students.
Be ready to spend up to 30 hours each week to get the work done. The material wasn't difficult. The tests were very tricky. Average score on final was under 70%. I wouldn't take this professor again.
Dr. Khan answered all my emails promptly and always tried to help out. The exams required deep thinking and the questions were hard to understand at times. A few of them seemed to have more than one right answer. However, he curved them adding 2-3 points to each. He used interesting new topics for papers. Youll work hard for a good grade.
Take him only if you HAVE to. Would not wish my enemy to have him.
Good professor overall, was accessible outside of class and was quick to respond to emails. Gives credit where credit is due and is willing to help those who need it. Will also get after your partner if they don't help with the group project, but wont penalize you for their mistakes/ lack of effort.
I'm GLAD that I didn't look at his reviews before I took him because I would've skipped him and missed out on this gem of a class. It was my first class in the program and I found the material to be straightforward. I watched all of the lecture videos, hardly read the chapters, and made an A. He curves test questions too! There are papers too.
1. Tricky questions. 2. you need have some prior marketing knowledge to answer some of those questions. It's tough to keep up with the class.
The writing assignments in my opinion werent too difficult but were time consuming (4-8 page single spaced). The quiz questions are subjective and do not relate to the lecture material. On one of the quizzes, the class average was a 52% and on most of them the class average was 70% or below and he makes it seem like you dont study/read carefully
The professor do the most difficult critical questions that need analytical thinking. It's very hard to take an A in the class. On the other hand the material is clear . You need to study only from the videos and Power Points slides. You have 7 quizzes and 3 writing assignments which is hard graded.
Dr. Khan is an excellent professor and I highly recommend. If you want an easy A this is not the class for you. if you want to learn then take this professor. You will be forced to think critically and really apply the material being covered on the quizzes and papers. His expectations are very clear. Excellent communicator and very funny!
His quizzes can be very subjective and often it seems two answers could be correct, but he gives lots of extra points throughout the class to make up for the quizzes. The papers are straightforward but lengthy (6-8 pages) but I got all As on those and they count for more of your grade. Also hes very funny in his emails, gives feedback on quizzes.
The weekly tests cover two chapters and are quite difficult since there are often two good answers. Overall test results in our class usually averaged 75% or lower. The tests were 40% of the grade with assignments being the balance. An A in the class will be difficult, about 10% of our class received an A.
Th class is not easy, you really need to work hard. Weekly quizzes can be challenging. Three assignments that require a lot of time/work invested. You need to listen carefully to the weekly lectures and take notes. Quality notes of lectures are KEY. Read chapters to supplement knowledge, optional. I worked hard, but learned a lot.
STEER CLEAR OF THIS PROFESSOR. He is an awful instructor. Lectures are a whole lot of NOTHING. Weekly tests are so tough. Watched each weeks lecture 2x through, read the readings and still failed the tests. Nice person, VERY POOR instructing abilities. Acts like we are all PHDs and industry professionals. Needs to reevaluate teaching methods. AWFUL
Worst graduate course I have ever taken. 1 week into the course and I dropped. Professor is HORRIBLE. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE WITH HIM. Unhelpful, full of himself and does NOT KNOW HOW TO TEACH. Very lecture heavy. TESTS SEEM TO HAVE 2 CORRECT ANSWERS. Seems to enjoy students struggling in his class. Class average on tests were failing %'s. Avoid!
As others have said, its not easy to get an A in this class, but I managed to do it. I found his lectures very helpful and watched them 2-3x before a test and took notes on them. A lot of the comments he makes outside of what is written on his slides were helpful to me. He was always available when Id email a question and seemed to like to help.
Dr Khan relies heavily on his lectures to get information out (which weekly tests are on), but his extreme difficulty speaking the English language hinders his students. I counted him saying "umm" or "uhh" 316 times IN ONE LECTURE. You have to decipher the entire lecture and end up not getting any information out of it.
Test heavy, and information necessary to be successful for assignments/tests is vague. Lectures difficult to stay focused due to UH's & UM's, and impossible to apply the information. VERY contradictory information compared to real world application. Tests POORLY worded, with over-engineered variables to seemingly lead students astray. AVOID!
Terrible experience with this professor. Lectures are very long and not "to the point." Exams are so contradictory and have multiple correct answers. You have to "get in his head" and know what HE would choose as the correct answer. To put it simply: I'd rather walk on broken glass that is on FIRE, before I ever take a class with Imran Khan again.
I could understand him in his lectures; however, his accent made it difficult for me to actually comprehend the material. Reading the assigned text will only provide minimal exam preparation. He bases his class off of 500 points which can be difficult - every assignment counts big time! I would not take him again unless I had to.
Written assignments are very detailed and graded with no surprises. Quizzes are extremely difficult. He does not follow a textbook and the questions come from the lectures which are not structured well. Class avg on quizzes was 60% at highest and there were multiple weeks with 0 students getting A's and more F's than B's/C's/D's combined. Beware.
You will work. Tests are VERY subjective. Don't be discouraged by your test scores. He bumps a few points here and there. 3 writing assignments. (4-8 single spaced) Spend your time on them and you will do fine. Learned alot. Khan has some slick humor. Fair but challenging. It's grad school. Suck it up, do the work, and you will get and A/B.
I am no slouch, I knew an MBA would be a lot of work. I watched every single lecture he posted and read the chapters (that were optional). I got a D on most exams but As on all the papers. One of his exams, 57 students (the vast majority) got an F. His exams are completely subjective, designed to trick you. Take a different professor.
Weekly 20-25Q quizzes that can be tricky. Class as a whole did poorly but I got As/Bs on them. 3 writing assignments (4-8 pgs single spaced). Takes notes on weekly lectures, listen to them multiple times (I did while driving) and read the chapters. Writing assignments took time but helped bump my grade. Also curves along the way. A is very doable!
One of my least favorite classes I have my undergraduate in Marketing and took this professor for my MBA Marketing class. Every test was trying to figure out what the answer he though was the best choice. No book, only his pre recorded lectures, that I must say weren't the best. I would not take him again.
Horribly structured class. The quizzes are based on his lectures, which seem painfully long, even though only about 30-40 min. Difficult to follow what he is saying and even more difficult to follow his poorly worded questions on quizzes. I spent a lot of time taking notes and listening to his lecture, but still did terrible on the quiz. Avoid!
Professor Khan was overall a good professor. Not the most interesting but overall effective. He provides helpful lectures in addition to the reading materials. The writing assignments were overall rewarding and graded fairly. Tests were not too difficult but not easy. He is not the best professor I have ever taken, but far from the worst!
Take a class just to struggle for a grade or take it to learn and apply the material in the real world. Just read the comments. Thanks,.
If you are expecting an easy A this is not the program for you, we are graduate students not high schoolers. You need to be willing to listen to his lectures, use the FREE text book for extra references and use your BRAIN for this class. Its not memorizing definitions, its overall comprehension. Do the work get a good grade!
One of the worst professors I have taken so far in the MBA program. 7 quizzes, closed notes/books, and 3 written assignments. The quizzes are drawn out questions that are completely subjective to what he would personally pick in that scenario. His lectures are monotone and riddled with "uh uh uh," and "ugh..." If you can, skip him.
Not great but not a bad professor. Quizzes are tricky but the bulk of the points are in the written assignments. Youll have to put in some work if you want a good grade. Definitely possible. Its straightforward class with a clear objectives.
The material in MKT701 is not challenging but Prof. Khan makes it difficult. Quiz questions are like riddles and the majority of class made C or lower on quizzes. Weekly quizzes and 3 written assignments does not provide chance to make up grade. I strongly recommend not taking MKT701 from this professor if you are in the online MBA program.
Class is all information in lectures and accompanying powerpoint. Optional text, not needed. One quiz per module (25 pts ea), based on his lecture, with complicated multiple choice answers. You are trying to answer the way he would. 3 Papers, interesting and quite reasonable, at 300 pts ea. Good writing will carry you through w/o problems.
Khan just wasn't a professor for me. If I was at the beginning of the program I would have roughed it out. Tests really don't match the lecture material and are subjective and papers were too stressful for a short week. Anyway, good luck if you stick with him.
Pretty solid professor, and the course was well structured. Very approachable outside of class, and easy to discuss and talk with. My only gripe is using group projects which are a significant portion of your grade. I got dragged down by a terrible group and ended up 1pt short of an A for the course as a result, so beware of that. Not bad otherwise
One of the tougher classes I have taken at LSUS. Written assignments are tough and rubric given is not how you are graded. Weekly tests are more of a formality than actually accounting for anything. Just studying is not enough, you also have to have relatable real world knowledge as well which is the only reason I passed. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm on my last course for MBA at LSUS, and I can say that he is by far the toughest I have faced during this tenure. It's like there is no way you can get him to say you have done Great job, He makes you sweat like hell to make your life as much hard as it can even be in a course. I would only advise taking his class if you have no other commitment
Your grade for MBA706 depends on the quizzes, once a week, and three written assignments, which he goes over heavily and post live discussions of. My advice for an A, watch his lecture videos for the week everyday, there are only 2 videos per week and are about an hour long and read textbook every day.
Took Khan at LSUS for MBA706; his involvement was minimal. He did provide lectures with his power points. There were no discussions. He was not very empathetic in his email responses. The course wasn't difficult overall. HOWEVER, the tests were like the twilight zone, you never knew where you were going to land. Best of Luck Ya'll.
If you have misophonia, avoid this man's lectures. If you like good grades for your hard work, avoid this man's class. If you actually want to learn marketing, pick a different professor. The tags only have positive tags so just imagine the opposite of whats tagged.
This was my 1st class in the MBA program after being out of school for 30 years. This class gave me serious doubts about continuing. The quizzes are tricky and pure torture. My advice? Do all the reading, watch the lectures and put some effort into the papers. I rated him just 'ok' because the quizzes are ridiculous. Would I take him again? Um, no.
I don't think that his TAs could even pass his exams as they are poorly worded and are all based on his opinion not necessarily what's found in the textbook or are commonplace business practices. Skip this "professor".
Dr. Khan is tough, but the workload and expectations are reasonable for a graduate-level course. Weekly quizzes, 3 short papers, last quiz is not cumulative. If you're looking to be spoon-fed the material, this isn't the class for you. If you're willing to think through the content, you will learn & take from it what you put in. Would take again.
Weekly quizzes are tough if you aren't sure how to study for them but were only worth 5% each. The 3 papers are worth more. The quizzes are based off real world applications of a term. He curves many of the quizzes. For each of the 3 papers be sure you understand what he is looking for.
Really enjoyed Dr. Khan's class and teaching style. Used stats of class performance to determine which exam questions to drop and curved papers. Held weekly Zoom sessions to review previous exam and reviewed top 3 lowest scoring for discussion. He really cared about students and their comprehension of subject. Put in work- easy A.
This professor and his TA's tend to grade your work based on personal preference. You can put little effort into one paper an get a A or B and then spend two weeks on another and get a D, with more research/analysis. You basically have to be psychic in order to get a decent grade in this class.
The Quiz are conceptual and need a lot of reading the contents, the lecture or the videos are not enough to get through the quizzes. The assignment are very length and expectation is to make them a perfect document which is difficult to achieve with the part time modules. if this was a full time course it would be easy .
The test questions were all subjective trick questions and although the lectures and reading materials were interesting they didnt help. I even work in the same industry and it was like the twilightzone. Beware of this course with this professor...the bad reviews are accurate.
Dr. Khan provided opportunities to engage through office hours & lecture. These sessions were long (office hours were recorded) & didn't always add info to help survive the quizzes. The quizzes were frequently worded in ways that made it difficult to pick the correct answer. Papers were long but every other week & not hard if you follow directions.
He loves his football analogies but explains difficult concepts in a way that was easy to grasp. He seems to care about his students and loves a good debate. He cares more about you ability to justify and explain the thought process behind you choosing an answer more than the actual answer.
Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT take his class. He will spend extra time in his lectures confirming he is doing a great job as a professor without acknowledging that more than half of his students are failing his course. His quizzes will 100% not correlate to any material given. None of the negative ratings are false. He earns them.
Avoid this professor if you can! His quiz questions and answers are often poorly worded so it's sometimes difficult to understand what the questions are asking and what the answers are. The lectures are supremely boring, although it is important to pay attention and know every word because the quizzes are all based off on them.
I am A-B student and was so close to failing this class. DO NOT TAKE HIM unless you already have a strong background in marketing.
Avoid the class if you don't have an inkling of marketing knowledge. But if you do, don't expect to understand the quizzes. Khan needs to reassure himself and try to convince you that he is great - repeatedly... Hopefully, you don't have a constant commenter on each call; it will be the (call) that never ends; it will go on and on, my friends.
This professor's lectures are very interesting and he makes it easy to understand, however, he makes his quiz way too complicated than it should be. The quizzes will have lots of trick questions where it is very wordy. The 3 essays are graded by the TA. The only interesting one was the last one other than it was ok.
DO NOT TAKE this class with this professor unless you already have a background in marketing. His lectures are long and wordy. The textbook is outdated and does not align with what he lectures. His quizzes include questions that are wordy and hard to understand and never align with the review material for the week.
*I took this class online* This professor is EXTREMELY understanding and personable. He definitely wants you to succeed in his class. This class is extremely easy to pass if you stay current on your assignments. I did not have the best exam average but I still maintained a good grade.
I'm not sure why Dr. Khan has bad reviews for his online classes. His lectures are easy and clear, he has group papers which are simple, and exams each week. The exams were 35 questions each, quizlet saved me. There is NO homework. You do not have to work with a group for papers, but it made it much easier. Take his course for an easy grade!
First class in the program after many years since BBA. Dr Khan is fair, his lectures are recorded and best listened to at 1.5 speed. His tests are fair, not easy, but fair. I would take him for a Marketing elective if I could, really liked his style.
Make sure to check due dates..... No leniency on a common issue that is known about the program.
