helpful and caring??No need to kiss her ass here. She is NOT a nice per

Not a nice person.
If you can teach yourself, then take the class. I have to do that to get an A.
doesn't answer questions and hard grader
she wants nothing more than to see YOU fail. class from hell.
Hard class in general but she doesnt help much
Willing to help, but her exams are way harder then homework.
The hardes stats proffesor too much excel

you'll have to zone out her annoying voice, AM I RIGHT?, ha lil inside joke
Study for the tests, and if you actively participate you'll understand better -

Hard, but straight forward, organized and fair teacher.
stats is hard but she didn't help. If you know excel already you are in.
the worst professor I've had
awful teacher
Class is hard but she will help you if you ask. If you're lazy, don't take her!

worst stats teacher at the university, very hard tests, not willing to help ever
office hours - what are they? she is never there
I am going to bat for this woman. It is a hard class, but if you do the work, you get the grade you want. I didn't think it was that bad.
Take her and you fail, simple as that!
i dont know why i didnt learn my lesson the first time...shes rough but she knows what shes doing...
never there to help you...awful teacher! she sucx!Don't take her!
She is a very good teacher, but for some reason is very unreasonable with her grading. I understood perfectly what she taught, but ended up with a bad grade.
Most intimidating woman I have ever met, all 75lbs of her. She knows what she is talking about, but dont expect ANY leeway from her. Very hard to get a good grade.
she is hard with the grading, but teaches really well. i understood everything, did ok in the class. the homeworks are killer, i ended up spending 8 hours on one of them. but she is a good teacher!!!
She seems mad all the time, very unreasonable and expects you to just know stuff without explaining. Stickler about doing practice problems. homework assignments just plain suck, they take forever and she grades them very hard.
If you do the practice problems you will do well on the tests. If you dont, you will fail...its that simple with her. I heard she is scary when you go to her for help, so take the class with a friend to do the work with. The homeworks are graded hard.
not a good idea! Do yourself a big favor and take someone else. Or put it of another semester. She's really not worth what she will do to your gpa!!!
If you want to learn Excel she is the teacher for you. You'll learn a lot and probably hate it, but in hind-sight I'm glad I took her.
All you people taking 291, GET A LIFE! That class is a BREEZE compared to 610! The workload is TRIPLE what you have. Your workload x 3 = MY workload. Find the objective function of THAT! Teacher is brilliant! Nearly as good as Palocsay!
This woman is not only the worst teacher i have ever had... when you are in her class you really start wondering whos running hell. I attended her class regularly and failed miserably. I retook the class with a different professor and did great. She sucks
Dont listen to this MBA 610 person's comments below, this lady's non-stop yelling, shrilly voice is enough to give anybody a heartache, just ask her husband.
WORST stat professor ever...class is extremely hard....she won't help you if you to her....don't falll behind even a day....extremely hard graderhated her....take stevens much better
This is the ONLY professor I have ever dropped. She never helps you even when you go for office hours "refer to your sylabus" well my sylabus does not cover this question woman!!!
If you're willing to work hard you'll be ok. She gives no help on hw b/c it's more like a take home test. But questions for tests she 100% helps you with. She is a really good professor and explains things thorougly. I'd recommend her.
worst cob teacher i've had
Honestly one of the best teachers I have ever had at JMU. She explains things very well and if you do the practice problems and keep up with the work you will do fine. I managed an A; it is definitely do-able without that much work.
Take her! The class is hard but she teaches it really well. I heard horror stories, but ended up liking her. Take her if you want to learn, but you do have to do the review probs- its not an easy A.
If you love horrible english and indian accents and an unhelpful, smug teacher...take her...she is horrendous. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!
WORST TEACHER EVER!!!!! Only class ever had to drop cuz she sucks! Went to every class and wanted to hang myself. She is the most horrendous person ever. DON'T TAKE
Whoever said she is a good teacher must be on crack...AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Horrible english and thinks she knows all. DO NOT TAKE.
Tough class but knows the mater and teaches it very well. You will do well if you do the work. She is always willing to help if you come to her office.
I honestly find it's really helpful to take her. she knows wat's she talking about. Just be in class and do the problems in the workbook. U'll be fine. Tests arent bad, just study really careful and be precise of what u meant. Overall, I recommend her.
very thorough in explanations and teaching style is exceptional; however, the material and examinations are very difficult for cob.
Worst prof. I had at JMU! Her weekly assignments take hrs. to do, and if u ask for help outside of class she takes points off. Very unapproachable. She knows her stuff, but thinks her students know it too, and we dont. Avoid if at all possible!
she's one of the best professors i've had. very thorough and explains everything. im not gonna lie, the class is really hard. i can see why some dont like her, she's tough. you really can't slack off, but she is a great teacher. i definately recommend!
Much better than Dr. Palocsay. Can explain things on our level and actually cares if you understand. Her exams are actually harder than most but she prepares you well.
Thinks she is so smart and expects every student to pick it up within a day. Doesn't realize we have lives and other classes. Never explains the problems as far as the significance to real life and never asks if people understand what she went over.HORR
First day of class all she talked about was the Olympics and D12. Oh and Daprofet. The evil stare is what got to me.
Perfect for those of us who believe this life is suffering.
Let's be honest, 291 is a tough class and we are all going to have to work a little. If you want to learn the material and are willing to put in effort I would take Markham. Her weekly assigments and practice problems will help. I studied those and have been able to get B+/A- and a's on the assig
Hard homeworks that take forever and takes off a lot of points for minor mistakes. Not a bad teacher just very hard, though a nice lady. Take someone else if possible but not the end of the world if you have her
Dr. Markham prefers to let you learn from the book than actually trying to teach. She still requires that you be at every class and has a severe grudge against you if you miss one or two classes.
291 is a hard class, Ina is definatly a fantastic teacher, her course packet makes everything nice and right there for you. There is a lot of homework, about one assignment a week and they arent the easiest, but you'll feel really good about yourself after completing work for her. She's the best!!!!
To be honest I thought she was going to be fairly hard. But If you just attend class, do your work and just pay attention it's a breeze. If you do not want to learn and go to class then don't take her, that's my advice
Ina is evil. I attended every class and did the work and am still failing. She gives you hw's every week and when you go to her for help she tells you to figure it out on your own. If I were you I would stay away from this lady. She has no heart.
You will hear her say "First Order of Business" upwards of 20 time a class. This lady is hardcore. She gives more excell assignments than any other teacher, and she will get angry at you if you ask questions about them. Dont take this teacher!!!
She is a bit intimidating at first, but she's not all that bad. Go to class, pay attention, and don't be afraid to go to her for help. She's actually a very nice person. Sometimes takes a lot of points for minor mistakes, but you'll deal. i'd say take her
Very difficult class, but Ina explains the subject with exceptional clarity and her course pack is invaluable. She is, however, pretty rough on grading and takes alot off for minor mistakes. She's also the most intimidating person I have ever met, but I wouldn't understand the subject without her.
hard class but hard class no matter which teacher you take. markham is a nazi with homework and pretty much everything else. her tests are tricky, but do-able. homeworks are a pain. definitly take another teacher
Go to class MOST of the time, hand in the HW's, study for the test by USING THE BOOK and her examples online. tests are easier than she says they will be. i crammed always the night before and did very well on tests.
By far the best 291 teacher at JMU. 291 is a challenging course, and she prepares you for it. Go to class, read the text, do the not hard hw's, and practice problems that assigns. Too many people complain about her, if you don't put any work into the class, shes not going to baby you. Knows the material well. B+ is well within anyone's ability
Best 291 teacher at JMU in my opinion (the only one i had but i still think she is best). she goes over things well and is fair. the class is hard
If you have one choice in life. Make sure you don't get Markham. You'd rather drink lava. Great person but all the "let's get started", "next order of business" and "I beg you're pardon"s really got to me. Anal on homeworks, exams and even answering questions in class. Couldn't pay me to recommend this one. go dukes!
The tests are exactly like the HW and practice problems. If you fail the class, you have no business being a COB major. 6 HW assignments, but she drops the lowest one. 3 tests plus final. If you just listen to her, you won't learn anything, you have to do the work to understand it. Boring class, but not her fault.
She's EVIL. She explains stuff ok but if u don't understand anything she won't help. U ask for help she says "why don't u understand it, its in the book" and makes u feel stupid. I was failing the class and instead of trying to help me because it was possible to pass, if I had had help, she recommends I drop it b/c she didn't think I could pass.
worst professor ever. I worked so hard in that class but the material was very hard to understand, she obviously knows what shes teaching, but it doesnt matter if you work hard or not, the minute you start to struggle she writes you off and tells you to drop the class like youre not worth her time.WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT TAKE INA MARKHAM.
not bad if you actually want to learn what she has to teach
Please i am telling you for u r good just dont take it with her! If u have no other choice like, u have to get into the 300s next sem still its more trying for something impossible. i am straight a student got b's out of this class but i had to put the effort of 4 classes in this single one!!!!...she doesnt help u to learn.
Dr. Markham is hands down one of the most intimidating women I have ever met, but if you go to her during office hours she is much more laid back and willing to help you. This class will be hard no matter who you take it with, but you could do a lot worse than Ina. Tests are tricky but manageable, be ready to work hard for your grade!
If you do her practice problems and go to class you will do fine. She is a good teacher- kind of tough, but she knows her stuff. You will actually learn the stuff. Take her if you aren't lazy and will actually go to class.
SUCkSSS
OK.She isn't terrible. The class is hard, but no matter who you get the class will be hard. She always stresses how imperative doing the practice problems are,but I never did them and always crammed the night before and pulled a B out of the class.Don't expect anything above a B unless you devote your life to the class.
She is tough. If you do all the homework you should be fine though. I don't think it is possible to fail the class if you do all the homework.
THIS IS THE WORST CLASS EVER AND YOU WILL SPEND YOUR WHOLE LIFE DOING THE HOMEWORK DONT TAKE HER
I absolutely hated this class. I knew it would not be easy, but I didn't expect the professor to make it 10 times as hard. She gave hw problems like all the time. Tests were ridiculous. And she has this accent thats cute but doesn't fit her personality. DO NOT TAKE HER; that is unless you are a top knotch straight A student and don't mind this type
Very good teacher, if you do the work you will be set. The class is hard no matter who you have.
Ina is God. Seriously ya'll, this woman is sooo dank. she is like the "KB" of 291. take her! you get this extra purple book with all these tips and step by step directions. very helpful. beats radclifffe.
This teacher is so hard. I'm really struggling in the class, even though I'm a good student. You definitely have to do the work in order to get a good grade, but all the probs are different and she isn't very clear with them. As soon as you say I'm thinking about dropping it, she writes it off and recommends it like she doesn't believe you'll pass.
she is awesome! this is a hard subject, so by definition her class is hard. but if u do the work and go to class, you should be fine and you might actually learn something.
Ms Markham is extremely hard and challenging. If you want to have a chance at doing well you have to go to ever class and work all hours of the night doing the homeworks and studying for all the tests and quizes. She makes a class that could be maybe somewhat interesting impossible.
Markham is a very challenging. She really pushed you to work hard and learn the material. The class is very fair and she tells you what is on the quizzes, tests, and homeworks exactly. I would def recommend her. She's one of the most focused and prepared prof at JMU. There are 5 graded hw's, 3 quizzes, 3 tests.
Dr. Markham knows what she is talking about. This class isnt easy but if you go to class and do ALL of the practice problems you should end up with a pretty good grade. Tests are straight forward and she doesnt try to trick you. Lots of outside of class work but I would deffinitely recommend taking her.
Very hard class, don't take her for 291! Very tough grader
This class is not that hard if you're good at math and logic type stuff. She's a good professor and will answer any question, but you really need to go to class because you can't learn this stuff on your own. The homeworks aren't that hard and she even gives you the answer so you know if you got it right. The tests are ok if you study well.
Ok, here's the truth about Markham... she's amazing!! This class is hard no matter what, but she is VERY straightforward with material, tests and homeworks. She is extremely nice, helpful and focused (probably one of the most organized teachers I know!) and she's funny without trying. You'll learn alot from this woman... TAKE HER!
She is not as hard as everyone claims. You have to put in some work if you want to do well in this class however. She explains things very well and prepares you for her exams and the dept. final (which didn't seem so bad). I would recommend markham for 291 if you want to learn something and are willing to put in some work for this class.
3 Exams and a final. Average is always around 70, gives you 11 assignments and drops 1 they all make up 150pts. Really hard teacher would recommend taking another teacher!! If you ask her for help she'll say read your textbook and if you answer you read it already she'll say read it again.. SO NOT HELPFULL AT ALL!!
Horrible professor... hates grading papers.... makes the class very tense and makes you not want to answer questions with that blank stare she gives you... tests are very hard though she will be more than happy to help you if you go to her office, but the moment you start slipping, she'll advise you drop her class.
Must read the book before class and work on her practice problems. She says in her syllabus that you must put forth at least 9 HOURS a week towards her material if you want to succeed. I'd recommend someone else, really, I would.
STRICT grader. LOVES taking points off for the littlest of things. I would definitely advise to not take her. Homeworks take FOREVER to complete and she shows no mercy grading. Tests are not that bad, just tricky. I would recommend taking Beverly Wood or Jeffrey May.
she's extremely strict & a very hard grader. Her tests are ridiculously hard & the class average is almost always around a 70. She really knows her material though and teaches it well, you just have to be willing to put in the extra time to work on practice problems. alot of it too.
Very tough class but she is a very good teacher, you will know what you are talking about by the end of the course. Probably one of the hardest teachers you can get for the subject but honestly she is a great teacher. If it is rough for the first couple of weeks it is because she is trying to root out the kids who don't really want to work hard.
I did all the practice problems as well as everything else your supposed to do for the class, and got a C. She is not very clear at all, has a middle eastern accent. Tests are hard, you have to be a very smart, hardworking person to get a B - bottom line.
not clear at all, did as hard as I coul got 80% and got a c,at the MBA when you get a C it means that you did not study at all, so ....the handouts are very unclear tests are unfair-you get points off for stupid things like $ sign even though you did the problem ok
I was a bit disappointed by my grade in this class but oh well. Markham is a really amazing teacher and knows what she's talking about. Her tests aren't always 100% fair... so study really hard! You will know the material, even if your grade doesn't reflect it. Good luck!
we had 11 hwks worth 10pts from which she dropped the lowest one. Class seems pretty average and it makes you think you got the material but when you get your tests back you'll see it didn't go as u thought. I recommend doing the practice problems that she posts because her tests are not fair and sometimes she includes exercises not taught in class
The spawn of the devil. she believes that test problems should be 20X harder than practice ones which are already hard. count on an F or D. She has an evil accent and a smile that says: you are an idiot dumb ass
Ina does not teach very well. She spends the whole class talking at a rediculous pace and expects her students to know and memorize material after she has said it once. gives no help on the practice problems she gives you and i think she would rather jump out her office window before she helped students during office hours. dont take her
She picks on students she doesn't like, hope u're not one of them!! doesn't help at all going to her office hours is useless all she'll say is i don't know you do it yourself and if u say i don't know how she'll be like go over the chapter on ur notes.. totally hated this class!
she explains material once, thats all you get. office hours she is no help by explaining the bare minimum and then returning to her computer. she also never explains homework and uses random problems on the tests. if you take her, good luck
BEST TEACHER IVE HAD AT JMU!! she is the greatest. TAKE her!!!
This woman is ridiculous. Her accent is unbearable and her interest in her students' learning seems nonexistent. The final is exponentially easier than anything you do for her class. TAKE ANYONE ELSE! If there are any nice ratings on here it's probably because she wrote them herself.
Ina is a nice lady. However, if you do not have all notes/macros in class for the day, you're basically screwed. In-class assignments are worth five points and can be given to her during her office hours, but be prepared to be accused of cheating if you get lost in class and can complete the homework assigned correctly. BRING ALL NOTES TO CLASS!!!
Strict and a hard grader. If you're not particularly smart and don't do your homework, you're gonna get wrecked. If you're good at following instructions (especially on homework and on a test) and are pretty smart, you'll rock it.
The worst teacher ever. I've never complained about teachers until I had her. She says she has office hours, but is not helpful when you go to her office. She just tells you to read the book. She likes to embarrass people in class. More than half the students in her current classes complain about her. DO NOT TAKE HER!
Ina Markham is every student's nightmare! My class started off with 30 students and ended up with 10 at the end of the semester. She expects students to grasp every materail she teaches right away. Her office hours are insufficient and useless because she tells us to refer to the problems worked in class.Does not care about students.Avoid Markham!
simply the worst..
DSS with Dr.Markham is a breeze. She gives you all the code for macros needed to get A on all the assignments (which are basically tests). Thus, I find her lecture to be pretty worthless. Nonetheless, a good hands-on class with coding with VBA.
Go to class! If you don't you'll be way behind and have to drop (like 70% of our class did). Work all problems in class as she does them AND do all practice problems on Blackboard. They're for your benefit. Quizzes and tests are pretty tough, but less-so if you do the homework. Follow every single direction on homework, quizzes, tests, or else...
She is easy if you go to class. tests and quiz are easier than homework. And she is willing to help you.
Currently at a top-15 MBA program studying for finals. Markham did a great job of preparing me for this level of classwork. Take the class seriously, as there are multitudes of applications for this material. Markham was always helpful when I attended but you must seek her out.
A tough class in general. She teaches well, but is not easily accessible via office hours. seems disinterested to meet with students in the office. But if you do the homework and pay attention in class, you wouldn't need to go to the office. Getting a B is quite possible. Have to get lucky to get anything more than that.
Really, really smart and crystal clear teaching. One of the best teacher's I've ever had, I learned so much. She's a little picky, but still very fair. I'm a math guy, so I basically breezed through the class and got an A. I'll take her in the future if I can, she made me want to get a minor in Management Science.
very clear during class!! pay attention and take good notes.. they will save your life on tests. not very helpful during office hours, seems irritated when you ask for help during them.
Professor Markham is a little intimidating, however if you express genuine interest in the subject matter and actually demonstrate effort she will always give you the benefit of the doubt. I have had her for four different classes here, still have yet to learn more from a professor. Don't take her if you don't want to exert any effort.
dont be late not even by three mintues when a homework is due, grade dropped by two letter grades. she is very unapproachable and seems annoyed when you visit her during office hours. takes a difficult subject and makes it even more challenging. and she gets really mad if u even look at your cell. particular, stern, strict, unwelcoming, cold as ice
Her tests are complete curve balls compared to her quizzes. She takes off points for literally everything. She told me that I'm one of her best students and that I understand the information well, yet she failed me on her tests. I would recommend taking this class with another teacher. She isn't helpful at office hours at all.
Please save yourself and take it with another teacher like Stevens or Ratcliff. I thought I would take this class and be okay but I should have listened to the prior warnings. That being said, IF you're one of the brilliant students that never struggles, she knows her stuff and you MAY be okay. Fast paced class.
Honestly Dr. Markham is a good teacher. She is one of the most difficult teachers I have had though. You have to put it a lot of work. I have learned so much though.
the worst thing, she is not helpful! go choose another professor if u have other choices.
her teaching is good, but she never will be a good teacher!( i think a good teacher not only good at what she teaches, but also very helpful and nice to her students!)
She's my favorite professor. She's one of the very few teachers that actually teach. Listen carefully in class and take good notes. The way she explain the subject is quite logically. For me, this is the way I learn stuff, so I found it super easy to understand. However, if logic is not your way of learning then it will be really challenging.
WORST TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD. She refuses to help you on the homework and won't help you in her office hours unless you've done all of her practice problems. About 70% of our class dropped and she emailed them encouraging them to drop. Should not be a teacher. Take Ping Wang over her.
COB 291 is hard regardless of which professor you choose to take. Ina Markham is a saint, take her take her take her take her!! Just do your homework, attend class, and ask questions when you're confused, and you will get an A in the class. Don't fall behind. Practice every week.
She's the most rude and least helpful professor I've ever had at JMU. She refuses to communicate with her students unless you finish the hw- even if your question is on the hw. She tells students to drop via email and refuses to meet with them to help them understand the material. Even if you stay on top of things, she says you dont. DONT TAKE HER.
Makes an already difficult class harder than it needs to be. When you think you've studied enough, you haven't. Over half the class had to drop. Not helpful in office hours at all. She's a very intelligent woman, but she expects too much from her students. Take anyone else over her
things I never want to do again..this class. Her tests are the hw and practice examples except on steroids, the material she puts on her exams is practically unrecognizable to what she teaches in class. My recommendation would be to switch out while you still can!
She made me absolutely panic after the first week. She is very intimidating and challenging. However, she is an outsdtanding teacher and she prepares you for the real world. So glad I took her, outstanding professor.
Dr.Markham is a fabulous teacher if you're willing to work. She tells you exactly what she wants, you just have to take initiative. I was so intimidated by her initially, but as the semester went on I learned you really just have to keep up and you'll do fine. If you're a "slacker", you'll hate her. If you're actually a good student, youll love her
2005 alumni here; I decided that my way of giving back to JMU would be to investigate whether or not meana Ina Markham still "taught" this class at JMU. Ina likes to ask the class "do you have any questions about the material?" This is Ina's trap to spring insults at you, don't fall for it. Her response will be "were you not paying attention?"
She is a good instructional professor. There are 3 tests and a final with a few quizzes and a few homework assignments. She has an Indian accent but it is not hard to understand. The class revolves around the course packet, you just work your way through the book throughout the semester. A pretty solid 291 teacher. I recommend her
She is intimidating at first but she is a great teacher. Three tests, quizzes, and homeworks and a final. She tells you exactly whats and expects. Work through the course packet throughout the semester. You have to be willing to put in the work to get a good grade. Overall, she is a great teacher and I would definitely recommend her.
Dr. Markham makes you work very hard for a B, but in the end it is worth it because when you move on you really understand the material. She is strict but really warms up to her students. Take her advice of keeping up with readings and practice problems. COB 291 doesnt have a great reputation but Dr. Markham makes it bearable.
Markhams class is manageable. Class is based on her course packet which I actually liked, rather than the textbook. Tests are hard and homework can be tricky so be ready to work. Most of the time she was very rude to her students and had a tendency to turn them away at office hours. Also lectures very quickly. Not too bad but not great either.
Loved Ina Markham! Despite some reviews, she is an awesome. COB 291 is a hard class, regardless of who you have but Markham makes the class understandable. Her course pct was very helpful and if you do all the homework and take the class seriously you will be successful. At first I was intimidated to go to class, but it ended up being my favorite!!
Pretty easy class. Only 2 tests and a good amount is take home. Work hard on the homeworks she grades them tough. She really wants her students to learn but can be tough.
Very caring professor, knows her stuff for sure. HW and Quizzes are manageable but her tests are literally out of this world difficult compared to class content. Being that these are weighted heavily it makes it hard to earn a good class score. Final exam is 100% easier than her exams, which shows she really taught the class inefficiently.
she's a really difficult professor. The tests are way harder than practice problems and homework. I got a 70 on the first test after hours of studying. Don't take her!
291 is traditionally a difficult course in the COB. She is among the harder professors. Tests are difficult and not curved. Attendance is taken. Homework is reasonable. Material, overall, is challenging and mundane. It's her way or no way, basically. Be prepared to work your butt off. Would look to another professor if you can. 1/3 of class dropped
Quizzes and HW aren't that hard if you do the Course Packet problems and read/work textbook problems. Tests can be tricky, if she goes over something pretty specific in class, it's probably on the test. It's not an impossible course, just put in work and you'll manage a B- or up. She also has a pretty stern demeanor which I personally liked.
I hear a lot of mixed reviews about Professor Markham but I'm so glad I had the chance to take her class. She is a great teacher and gives you everything you need to be successful. The tests aren't bad if you are prepared. However, the class is very time demanding and you have to keep up with the practice problems.
Great woman and professor, really cares about the students and our understanding. You need to read and do the extra work (not too much). If you do and you pay attention, you'll be fine. Cheat sheets for every test and quiz. She is very professional and takes the subject seriously, which helped me to do the same.
Markham cares a lot about her profession, maybe a little too much. Problems that were done in class were taken directly from her experience in the field. She can be standoffish in class if you ask her multiple questions. I definitely advise to take another professor for 291 if you can as she is by far the hardest professor for the course.
Someone keeps removing reviews for this professor. So here it goes... Challenging class and challenging teacher. Firm in grading and unapproachable in demeanor. Knows the material but has been teaching out of an outdated course packet that is 20+ years old. Textbook use is common and exams are very difficult and time-consuming. Look to another prof
Worst professor that teaches COB291, her tests are extremely hard. She docks points off for minor details! The exams are not multiple choice and 2 times harder than anything she teaches in class. She also has a strong indian accent.
Too much workload. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I REPEAT,AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
OMG. Please stay away from this professor. I failed out of COB291 because of Markham. I still get nightmares of her and this class. Save yourself the trauma and psychological damage this professor will inflict upon you. Go take Professor Busing.
Hardest class I have ever taken. Do all you can to stay away from this teacher. Had to drop the class because the tests were so hard.
Professor Markham helps you out a ton and gives you extra credit if you go to office hours. Class average on 2nd test an 83.
Not as bad as people say. She is a really good teacher, 291 is just a hard class.
I learned a lot more than I expected to going into this class. 291 is going to be hard with whoever you take, but she really teaches you how to think
I'm not the one to usually write reviews but GEEZ. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROFESSOR!
For some reason she's always in a bad mood. If two students consecutively ask her a question she'll start answering them with sass. Like um, you're a professor, this is your profession why are you so angry when students who pay thousands in tuition ask you a question? Markham knows the subject **obviously** but just doesn't know how to teach.
Dr. Markham makes this class harder than it needs to be. She is extremely intelligent, but she isn't a very compassionate teacher. I was scared to ask questions because she would make people feel dumb if they did. Tests are extremely difficult, but final was manageable. Easy course material but very difficult with this professor.
She is a great teacher; you really learn a lot from her. However, extremely tough grader. Forgot to round my decimals on an excel hw assignment worth a test grade, everything else was correct, and was given a D on the assignment. She's very strict. This class gave me anxiety
This was the toughest business class ive taken a jmu so far. She's a great teacher and youll learn a lot but the class has no easy grades which makes it tough. There are 4 HW that are difficult and graded hard. The are also 4 tests including the final which are even harder. She means well, but not an easy class. I would find a different professor.
This woman hates herself, her life, and her job. And because of this, she will make you pay. Is it fair? No. But she will literally ruin your life anyway. So I recommend you don't take her even if she's the last professor available for the class, which is always the case with her, because no one wants to take her, don't let it be you for any reason
Dr. Markham has the best intentions, but COB 291 is a hard class. I have learned a lot from her, but she is very picky in regards to grading. She seems to be very tough but once you get to know her she is actually very sweet.
STAY AWAY from Markham. At all costs do not take her for 291. She gives me nightmares to this day and she'll put the fear of god into you. Grades extremely tough. We had 4 hws and most of the class would fail and she yelled at us cause we were not competent. Awful awful grader and instructor stay away.
If you do the practice problems and don't get behind from the beginning you will be fine. Its a challenging class
It's a hard class in general. Of all the professors that teach it she is one of the better ones. She seems really strict at first, but only because she cares about students knowing the information and entering the world as prepared as possible and she loosens up as you get to know her. If you are actually looking to learn in college I recommend her
Markham is a great professor. She truly cares about her students, but she forces you to work for it. You definitely earn the grade you receive. She encourages students to come for office hours. Added a bonus homework and dropped our lowest score for homeworks. 3 tests and a final all worth 100 points each. Truly a great professor if you work hard.
Markham truly cares about her students and wants her classes to succeed. If you go to her office hours with legitimate questions and have done your work as best you can, she will help you. 291 is a tough class regardless of the professor, but she prepares you for future COB classes. She was really tough, but she makes the class rewarding.
291 is one of the harder COB prerequisites and she does everything she can to make sure we are learning. A lot of these reviews are definitely from the slackers who didnt give this class the time of day. Tests are definitely hard, but if you study and do all the practice problems you'll pass. Other than that its 4 excel homeworks that are easy As
-Objectively the worst professor Ive encountered -Adds excruciating artificial difficulty to a very interesting and easily understandable course -Office hours and outside help always feel futile, ridicules students for not asking questions and berates them for wrong answers -States day 1 she reserves the right to change grades +/-15%
Dr. Markham is the absolute worst. The subject material is easy, but her grading criteria is absolutely ridiculous. She also berates her students for not participating and will childishly refuse to help anyone with questions because "you guys don't care so I won't". AVOID AT ALL COSTS
COB 291 is a tough class no matter who you have. Dr. Markham emphasizes that this class requires you to think differently, not just memorize and regugitate formulas. She truly wants her students to succeed, and while she can come across as blunt, she means well. For as complex as the class is, you will want someone who is straightforward and blunt.
A cursed class, one of the worst I've taken. The material doesn't follow the textbook well, she makes you buy her practice problem book but the questions are very limited. Very tough grader, only a few homework assignments and the tests are everything. The test material doesn't line up with the class or PASS material at all.
Ina Markham is the worst prof. I've ever had. If you read this review and still take this class, I don't feel bad for you. WARNING: change your prof. or be ready to study and still get bad grades. Her lectures/voice are intolerable. If the class doesn't ask questions she threatens cutting class that day. For your own good, DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
Ina Markham is by far the worst teacher I have ever had to work with in my entire life. She is disrespectful to those who do not understand the content. She does what she wants and cares only for the goodie goodies in her class, and assigns exuberant amounts of work over the weekends. If you can avoid her DO IT and if you have to take her I'm sorry
Dr. Markham acts like a caring professor and try to push you to do better, but in reality she doesn't care. She will not give partial credit even if you have it 80% correct. Whenever you ask a question, she just repeats what she previously said in a louder tone of voice. She will even cut you off to state what she has to say even if doesn't pertain
She goes out of her way to degrade those who don't perform up to her standards and acts like people want to do bad on assignments. The assignment/exams are not like what we did in class even when she claims they are. Hands down worst professor I have ever had.
