she's a great teacher. Her lectures are interesting. I recommend people to take her. But her multiple choice tests are hard.
very clear and informative, knows her stuff. Great notes.
I highly recommend her because she knows her stuff very well. For tests, just study and you will ace it.
makes lectures super interesting.attendance mandatory to understand the course, good notes,+ hardly use the txt book.fair marker.great teacher!
Awesome teacher! one of the best socio classes ive ever taken....shes really good from an unbiased view. 1st exam was easy, 2nd was hard, mult. choice. ans final she gives u the qu's to study for.
Very inspiring woman - really opened my eyes and mind. Very passionate as well. If you want a good mark, you will have to work for it but it will be worth it. Insanely interesting and loaded topics. A must for the soci minded student!
Her notes are garbage. They're useless when you try to study them for an exam. I can write better organized notes with a pen up my ass.
i disagree with the easy comments; her tests are pretty hard. and yes, her multiple choice tests are pretty tricky, but she only has one of those; the other's are essays. But she's a good teacher, nevertheless.
Great teacher, interesting class, fair exams.
She is an incredible public speaker & her classes are very interesting!! Made me interested in sociology unlike any other teacher. She is very smart, funny and has a good teaching style.
Her classes are interesting and yes she is a great teacher. BUt her exams are abit hard, u really have to know ur stuff so attend every class. But neverthless she is a great teacher.
Had her a couple of years ago for Soc, 150. You'll do good as long as you don't question her about anything she doesn't know. The watch out!
can't comment on intro. soci, maybe she's good for that but soci of fam was terrible and completely biased toward nuclear, middle class families. all the material cited was from at least 20 yrs ago, most of it 50. not open to other's ideas, very hard marker
She was one of my favourites at Langara. Her lectures were very energetic and clear, and she made me want to come to class. She is a very likeable person and very knowledgeable.
Soso .. not a good teacher
she is a great teacher...she really knows how to put on a great lecture. she ultimately rocks. tests arent too bad. essay type exams. and mult. choice. she gives u an outline of poosible q's on essay exams.take her shes definately changed my views.
GREAT TEACH....LOVE GOING TO CLASS!!!
Where to star? She is completely bias towards 2parent families. Also her classes are repetitive and not interesting. I don't mind her as a person but as a prof, she is horrible. If she doesnt like you, she would not answer your q's or won't even talk to you.so Unfair, she plays favourites. Dont take her
!Prahst is the best prof from all my courses, she clear and helps you understand concepts through examples. i love her teaching skills, i would suggest to anyone to take her, she very nice too
A good teacher that is very organized. Exams are okay if you study for them
she is very passionate about what she teaches. however, notes can be confusing at times. if you can write lots, and fast under pressure, take her. she shows some pretty interesting movie clips.
Professional. Fair. Clear. If you study at all, you will get a "B". Nice Lady.
Shes a really nice person and really does love what she is teaching, shes also really helpful but her clarity in her notes is off, she has arrows everywhere in her notes - hard to fallow and when you look back on them, they make no sense.
she is a very intersting teacher!!! her exams are easy if you study and go to most of her classes. if you just want to pass you don't have to study at all!!! just look @ her notes
very clear, what i would tell prospective sutdents of hers is PAY ATTENTION if you doze off you miss IMPORTANT things...her multiple choice test is a KILLER...study study study
Coming from someone who earned B+, Prof Prahst is honestly a wonderful teacher. She is thorough, interesting, informative, & passionate about what she is teaching. Take notes & attend regularly & you will do great.
Ms.Prahst is a really nice and funny teacher that can make the class laugh, she gives you the questions for the first midterm and finals. Watchout her multiple midterm is HARD!!!!...above all you can easily get an A+ in her class, notes are very helpful too
awesome teacher, she really knew her stuff and could even draw from her own research, made me really interested in sociology
Amazing professor. Very passionate, and tries her best to make sure you get as much as possible from the course. She can be a bit abrupt when approached after class, but she is very helpful during office hours. Exams are not meant to trick you, but rather to help you understand the course better.
Awesome teacher full of energy and great lectures. Uses current material to make her points. Fair and approachable.
The best teacher i have ever had. Made me decide what my major is going to be in : Sociology. Very interesting as a person, full of life and has seen a lot. Very interested in her own work and does a lot of research and travelling. Test arent Very easy, but with enough studying and having all her notes u should do just fine.Very funny. LOVE HER!
very intelligent and give great examples
What a great professor! Finally someone who loves teaching, is well educated, and has a sense of humour. She is great and you will love this class. Gives good examples and will never make you feel stupid when asking questions. Her notes can be a bit scattered but were adults here so Im sure you can organize them yourself. Good first year class!
Awsome prof! her test are straight forward, not tricky! her lectures are very interesting and informative! great prof
she's really helpful and nice and easy on marking!
Someone who is well educated and loves what they do. She's funny and respects ur opion. Also gives hints in class notes on what gonna be on exams. make class interesting and opens our view in society. definitly recommened!
Love her. She is nuts (in a good way), straightforward and brings the class to life.
She is the best.
she's awsome. she gets very excited in every lecture and always prepared. also, she is fair. she even remarks the exams that are failed. she's the best!!
She is a great professor. Her lectures are interesting and you can tell she is interested in what she's teaching and her laugh is contagious. I loved the class and it was obvious the professor loved the content of the class.
Extremely dynamic and passionate, and knows her stuff; for me, though, her teaching was not linear and focused enough. I had to do hella paraphrasing of her notes - if copied down verbatim, they would have been unintelligable once class was over. If you thrive on interaction, you might like her class!
Her lectures are so interesting I actually really enjoy this class. I do find the subject matter interesting, but she finds a way to really apply it to the familiar aspects of your life and makes it relevant. For me, at least this makes it easier to remember. I like the set-up of 2 midterms & an exam a little , if anything in the way of homework.
Very dedicated and deliver easy to understand and organized lectures. Don't leave Langara College without taking her Sociology classes.
she's an awsome teacher...really cares about her students....dont miss a class...cuz u need her notes!!!....only complaint i have is dat her tests are very hard!!!
A very enthusiastic and an amazing teacher! She is very clear on what is on the exams, however, she IS a very hard marker. She's the one that really opened up my eyes about the things that go on in our society, but she's also the one that made me stop wanting to take another soci course.
Great teacher, she really does open your eyes to the world around you. However, if concern for a mark is what's getting in the way of studying sociology, than clearly your eyes havn't been openned enough. Try Jesse Seary.
Her notes are AWFUL and full of spelling and grammatical errors, which I found distracting. She has a lot of enthusiasm but that often leads to disorganized lectures. She marks surprisingly hard; she wants very specific answers after giving very vague explanations. Don't bother buying the text, because all the test material comes from her notes.
Amazing person, and when your teacher is amazing the class is good! Indira made sociology very interesting and enjoyable. Try it !
I love indira, she is such a caring person, and very charismatic, she sure made the class more fun

don't take her. just avoid her.
Another amazing course with Indira! Her notes can sometimes be rather long winded, but they are what really matters on exams. Other than that if you really want to learn Sociology-you will love her class. Indira is very friendly, engaging, and you can go to her office and talk to her about ANYTHING. She really cares about her students! Wonderful!

pretty awesome woman. Really enthusiastic about her work. Cares about what you have to say. Interrupts people sometimes, but it's because we had a short class and there wasn't a lot of time to talk too much. All in all a pretty good teacher
I took her Soci of the Family course. I find her to be really unclear. She can be fun to listen to and her lectures hold your interest but all over the place. I barely knew what she wanted for exams or projects. Sometimes it was intimidating to speak up in class because she can be a little harsh. She is nice though.
So passionate and interesting, the reason why I'm taking it again next term. Notes are unclear which is why you should be in class 98% of the time to really understand what she means plus it's INTERESTING :D. I enjoyed it, tests are fairly hard but do-able.
Indira has more regard for her social causes than she does for teching her students. She will consistently not hold office hours because she has too many other things to do. Her cell phone always is ringing in class, and cuts off students when they have a question.
GREAT TEACHER. AMAZING PERSON. TAKE HER CLASSES YOU WONT REGRET IT!!!
One of the most excellent, adorable and inspiring teacher i ever had in my life.
amazing! so knowledgeable!
Knowledgeable and a cool teacher...the tests are little confusing.
Nice lady, very passionate about her subject. Gets the class interested in the subject material, answers questions clearly and allows topics to be open for discussion and opinion. Only thing is she is late for EVERY SINGLE class, which gets annoying when you only have 1hour.Quite irresponsible! But great class, great teacher
great prof- knows soc extremely well and very involved as a professional in the lower mainland. interesting classes, nice lady. definitely should attend each class for the notes-there are lots and you'll want to be there to expand in your own words on the overhead notes she gives as they are quite short-hand at times.
Indira is incredible. One of the best soc profs at Langara. I would suggest attending every class and reading the textbook (for the m/c questions on the final exam). She's also very helpful during office hours. Great, great teacher! Very inspiring.
She's enthusiastic and all but she loves to put you on the spot and picks you to answer a question when you probaby don't even know the answer..
Her passion for sociology made me fall in love with the idea of majoring in soc... soon to realize that she is the only one who makes soc interesting and relevant. after some UBC soc courses I realized that her engagement in the sociology world far exceeds what you can expect from anyone else. her lectures make understanding soc almost imperical
I absolutely love her!! LOTS of note taking but I quite enjoy taking her notes. It is very organized for you and when reading back, I understood everything perfectly. She has great knowledge in this field and she makes learning SO easy. I highly highly HIGHLY recommend her. I have learned a tremendous amount. And I am extremely picky with my profs.
Lots of notes! i wish i used a laptop! She could be a bit unorganized, but she knew her stuff and made the class very interesting. Her multiple choice test was quite tricky. over all okay teacher
She's an awesome teacher!! She's actually the reason why i'm going to take sociology again next semester. Her notes are extremely helpful and she'll help you when you're struggling. She's also very very nice and most importantly, she's PASSIONATE about sociology! Highly recommended
shes the best... such an amazing woman! she is very passionate about her job.. very approachable.. very fair exams... really down to earth. AWESOMEEEEE PROFFFF!!!
She is the most sweetest person every just sit down and take really good notes. She gives you all the essay questions a week in advance so all you do is memorize it. I HIGHLY recommend taking her class. Only 1 person failed and that's because they didn't show up to any tests or final. GOOD LUCK! :)
usually a bit late 85% lecture 25% video/discussion Answers most questions a class but sometimes ignores raised hand and says ?we need to move on? Reading not really required. Take home work every 5th or so class is completion for the most part and easy. Tests are scaled so a large majority of the class gets a B. 2-3 pages per class of notes.
She is adorable. So passionate about sociology and is really clear of what she expects of you. Tests are overall basic and she tells you what will be on them you just have to listen. No homework besides the readings
Indira is awesome at what she does. She is able to relate the course curriculum to situations in the world to help her students understand better. Being awake in class is really crucial because there is a lot of note taking. As well, she goes through things really fast as there is a lot of information given out in just one semester.
She's an awesome prof, very nice, and cheery. Should attend class because some may not be in the text, and notetaking is 2-3pages. She keeps you interested in sociology class and she gives you questions that may be on the midterm and finals so we can study for it :) m/cs are hard...but her written midterm is good!
Indira is a lovely, passionate professor. Her teaching methods are outdated though. No power points are allowed or used in lectures, only dull overheads, and she didn't provide an e-mail address for questions. Workshop assignments are usually unclear and frustrating. Exams are easy as long as you attend class!
Passionate prof. She uses some of her own research, and gives fascinating examples from her travels. A lot of in class note-taking. Overall, I highly recommend taking a class with Indira - you will learn a lot!
Great lectures. Awful testing structure that include essays you are not given any feedback on and multiple choice questions you never see again (or what you got right or wrong). I wouldn't recommend this class to a new student. It was my least favourite class of my first year because I felt let down by the way we were tested.
Indira is a very passionate prof and she always has interesting experiences to share with students. She has study sheet for students prior to midterms. However, her lecture notes aren't organized and you're highly recommended to bring a laptop with you cause there's a lot of things to jot down in her class.
Indira is very passionate and I really like her sharing her daily exp relevant to sociology. We have essay for midterm#1 and MC for midterm#2 and both for final. She has study sheet for us before tests which is good but her overheads are quite disorganized so its important to read textbook before classes.
I love Indira's perspective, but her lecture style is very dry. You get a lot of loose handouts in addition to your lecture notes, sometimes it's hard to keep organized. You learn a lot in this class. Theory-heavy. Uses local films. Exams are not difficult. She seems approachable. It can be hard to sit through a long class with her.
Great teacher! her courses are always full and 60 people or so are always on the waitlist for her classes. Thats how good she is (in my opinion)
Indira is an amazing professor, this was my first semester at Langara and I took two of her classes. She made my college experience wonderful, I've learnt so much from her and she is so passionate about everything she teaches. Assignmentsexams are easy, study her notes and you'll be fine! Definitely recommend!!
If you go to class, you'll probably do well. Crystal clear teaching, tells you what's essential to learn. Go to class because she tests you on both the textbook and her material. She shows really interesting videos, some of which are relevant to local matters. She has a great background and great personal stories which tie into the work.

Ive really enjoyed her! definitely worth it!
Indira is the most inspirational teacher i have ever had. Extremely easy course as well.
Best Instructor in Langara, specially for international students. Take this course with Indira if you want to upgrade your GPA.
Took Family Studies 1115 and really enjoyed her sociology lectures! Very informative and inspiring. Too bad it was so short!
Indira is awesome! Her teaching method is very engaging and it makes you so interested in sociology. Barely any homework and she is so clear with preparation for both midterms and the final. She tells you exactly what to study and there are no surprises on the exams. DEFINITELY would take her as a prof again. And she has a good sense of humor.
I took a course with professor Indira on race and ethnicity; it was amazing. I enjoyed her critical approach to social issues and examination of it through historical, theoretical and sociological approach. She also introduces students to other academic works and key academicians with her assigned readings which guide students for further learning.
Indira was instrumental part of me surviving Langara, She's an AMAZING teacher . She cares about her students and, makes you want to engage and learn more as well as think critically and intellectually. The ONLY criticism I have for her is that she's not teaching more courses.
She is very amazing, helpful and nice prof.
She teaches 1/3 of the course and her portion was the worst. Interesting content at times, but her notes are all over the place. Write down everything she says because the notes she prints and gives you, she doesn't follow them. Her examples/case-studies are 20 years old, which is frustrating for a class on racism and ethnic policies.
Her class changed the way I looked at the world. She is an amazing lecturer but expects all her students to know sociology which isn't the case. A bit of a tough marker but her classes will definitely teach you something new. She also responds to emails incredibly fast. She is a hard marker but if you have some sociology background you will be okay
Indira is a great prof super passionate and clearly enjoys teaching. But she is a super hard grader - this is unfair considering that the class is taught by 2 other profs who are much much easier markers. This is evident by the pile of term papers that were written for the other profs compared to indira. I wish the class grading had single standard
best sociology professor.
Indira is so great. She is very passionate about sociology and families. She's very kind and compassionate. Her lectures are interesting and engaging. My only issue is her hand outs! There were so many and all were poorly photocopied and not hole punched. Made it hard to stay organized. Her expectations are clear and she is a fairly easy marker.
Interesting lectures! She takes attendance randomly, so it's better to be on the safe side and attend all classes. To get full marks on essays, make sure to define EVERYTHING. My only complaint is that she would send lecture notes an hour before class. It would be nice to have them the night before so that I could make a copy and follow along.
very info heavy class, felt that i lost my footing at times bc she tends to be a little disorganized with the lecture notes- however she answers questions fairly quickly and concisely. def go to class bc thats where she gives examples needed for the tests. lectures are acc quite interesting, approachable in person- def take her intro class at least.
she is a very amazing prof. the most easiest grader. just go to her class and take good notes along with study her notes and you'll pass. its also a great course to increase your GPA. you dont need the textbook.
One of the best professors I had at Langara. Indira is very knowledgeable, kind and caring professor. Sociology 1120 with her is a very good choice if you want to boost your GPA but attending classes and doing workshop assignments (very easy) is necessary. She is very passionate about Sociology and makes the course material interesting.
Indira is an amazing person, but she tends to be disorganized and rushes through lectures even when they're 3 hours long. For her exams make sure to explain everything and gives lots of examples and make sure to read the textbook because her midterm is based off the textbook and not her notes. Take this class if you're good at teaching yourself!
Indira is a really inspirational teacher. This is my first course with her, and I really want to take another class with her. My only comment would be for her to maybe be a little bit more organized when it comes to lecture material, and speaking during lectures. Other than that, she is a phenomenal teacher!
Mrs. Prahst has been one of the best professors I have ever taken before. She truly cares about the subject, and puts a lot of time and effort into her classes. Whenever I email her, she replies very quickly, and is super helpful. She does take note of who is in class, so it is best to go to each lecture. Her lectures are really engaging too!
Indira is one of the best profs I have had at Langara. I took this course as an elective and I really enjoyed the material mostly because of how Indira delivered it! She is so inspiring and knowledgeable and clearly passionate about sociology. I would take another one of her classes in a heartbeat!
Indira was a good instructor in Family Studies. I would say shes more on the disorganized side. usually her and Anne would post the module on mondays but Indria was never consistant with what time she would post it at. Also there was one time she posted powerpoint slides at 12 am and 1 am (van time). easy marker. just disorganized.
Doing the class online was odd. She gives a ton of lectures and reading materials but its like she doesnt know how to label the documents properly. It all comes across as very unorganized and makes it annoying to do. Otherwise it was fine. Not particularly interesting though.
Lecture slides can be quite disorganized. Its clear she has a great passion in Sociology but lacks in lecture aspect. Must include many examples in the written answers for exams.
Indira is an amazing prof. Although everything was online, her lectures were engaging and very interesting. Lots of reading , lectures and activities but not difficult to do. Would definitely take her again.
Questions in the all the exams are directly from the lectures and textbook used. An easy high mark if you understand all the concepts.
Indira is amazing, passionate, she genuinely cares for your academic success, and wellbeing. The course topics were dynamic and engaging to learn from various global contexts. You must keep up with the readings and lectures ability to apply concepts/theory to real world scenarios. Indira creates an explorative learning environment the BEST :)
Doctor Indira Prahst was my first instructor at Langara. Her book and experience is incalculably valuable and inspiring to everyone who has ever experienced oppression in their life. She is a true intellectual warrior and a spirit of the mind.
Ms. Prahst is very strict about what she wants to see in the exam answers which can sometimes get hard to match. Sometimes everything she says becomes confusing - including the instructions. But she really goes above and beyond if you seek for assistance. Overall, a good prof. but a tough grader
I wouldn't have given her such a low rating, because I actually enjoyed coming to her lectures BUT in the middle of the semester I started to have family problems and couldn't focus on my school work. I got a low mark on my exam and she humiliated me in front of the class, very UNPROFESSIONAL Indira!
Professor Prahst seems like a nice woman, but I found her lectures to be repetitive. There were a bunch of posts, a workshop assignment and three midterms (2 of them MCQ, and the last one MCQ + one essay question). Also, there was one time when I emailed her and I did not get a response. Overall, she is an ok professor.
Inspirational and passionate, but very disorganised. Poor course planning, too many topics in one session, feel like jumping around. Confusing instructions with lots of "updates" (mostly corrections). subjective and difficult to convince. She's such a brilliant scholar, so it's a big pity. still want to learn from her in future. hope she listens.
You can tell she is very intelligent and knows a lot about the subject but between her recorded lectures (extremely dry), discussion posts, exams, assignments, readings, and workshops, be prepared to spend a lot of time on this class per week. She has a specific idea of what she wants as answers so she marks accordingly. Didn't enjoy this class.
Pretty easy grader in terms of assignment. Was really generous and extended deadlines for my class several times. Overall, pretty good prof.
It's clear that Indira cares about what she teaches for she is passionate on the subject, but unfortunately, her lectures are dull. This also may have been an error on my part, but I did not enjoy having three professors as it felt like we were constantly starting over every few weeks; not knowing what to expect for each exam.
Expect a heavy workload, but the prof is knowledgeable. Use unstuck ai and the textbook to excel in this course.
Indira is a very kind and understanding person however as a prof I am not a fan. She is extremely disorganized and her lectures are equally as disorganized and all over the place. She is an easy marker, definitely a gpa booster. Overall I would not recommend but is not the worst prof I've had.
