Amazing! The best thing about his class is that we do the teaching. There is a far amount of work to cover, but he's very helpful. The small class helps with the discussions. I suggest everyone take this course, you'll see the world very different.
Indy rocks as a prof. Easy going and always open for help. Don't believe the bad reviews in the prep math courses, they obviously cant handle math and are trying to take it out on Indy.
Come on now - why the sense you are better than students. Plays up to some because he seems to want some friends.
Indi Lagu is the only Prof that was able to show me the light in mathematics. I did poorly in math until I took a class from Indi. Very interesting, keeps it fun and is able to engage the students.
if you enjoy humiliation then this is the place for you. He has a knack for making people feel stupid. I liked math before I took this course. If your not good at math OR ass kissing then get out now cuz your doomed....

Cool guy and really knows his stuff
Tough Class - but the guy knows his stuff

BEST TEACHER EVER!!! IF YOU WANT HIGH MARKS THEN THIS IS THE TEACHER TO BE WITH.
BEST TEACHER EVER. I WANT HIM FOR EVERY MATH/SCIENCE CLASS!!!
He's tough...But he's fair. Quit your complaining...and do the work...
Great teacher to be with and extremely helpful. His tests are easy and can ace it if you're clever. You will enjoy his classes. I will be taking MATH 1219 & 3301 with him in the future.
Knows his stuff, assignments are a bit tough but he is will to help and stay as long as you want. Will make fun of you, which jus help to make the class more fun. Will pick students to go up and solve questions (one or two steps). Very good prof, will recommend.
Indy is a great prof, easy to understand and always willing to provide clarity outside of class hours. His interactive teaching style is on the cutting edge of adult learning. He genuinely loves to learn and share knowledge with others.
Best Professor I have had in 3 years. Very fair marker. Makes going to class very enjoyable. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
Amazing prof. Always willing to put in extra effort answer any questions, even outside of office hours. The expectations for the first assignment were fairly vague, but he marked gently, and the rest of the assignments were a breeze.
Indy honestly is a fantastic prof, and I usually don't write reviews but he keeps the class very light and enjoyable making me actually pay attention all the time ! He loves to make jokes in class, funny guy (at least he tries to be, haha!) I recommend his for sure as he will help you anytime while keeping the lectures entertaining.
The guy knows his stuff. He's easy to understand. But I'm finding that he enjoys making certain students (including myself) feel very, very, VERY stupid. Never call him a teacher, he's a professor. Nor should you call him Mr., but Dr.
Amazing teacher, if you listen and do the assignments, the midterm and final is essentially the same layout. Is a very funny guy and is easy to talk about. You can easily do bad if you don't pay attention and do the work, so again, make sure to listen in his class.
Tough, but fair prof. He also makes class interesting with his jokes and what not. Definitely knows the material, and is willing to help if you're willing to put in the work. Read the textbook before you come to class!!
Extremely fair. He is helpful. If you can pick one math teacher, pick him.
Indy is a great instructor! Math 1205 was a hands on learning class. His teaching style and techniques are great. Participation and keeping up with the readings are important for passing. Whenever someone didn't understand somthin Indy was more than willing to help! Highly recommend Indy, he makes math fun and mean something more than just numbers.
Great prof. I am a quiet person so his class is harder since it is all based on learning form each other. He doesn't "call on" you though, which is very nice for me. He presents the information as a concept, he doesn't give you an answer and makes you really think.
calc is definitely not my strongest asset. But going to the lectures + tutorials actually helped a lot. All the tests come straight from the homework questions assigned, and so does the final. Easy A if you put effort. wont go out of his way to help you, but always there if you are stuck. sort of intimidating but overall he's actually pretty funny.
Indy's a great guy and a great prof! He's a fair guy and has clear expectations for his students, and nothing is really a surprise since the exam questions are from the textbook. As long as you put in the effort for his class and actually do the problems, its an easy A and you realistically don't have to show up.
Indy is very knowledgeable in the field of mathematics and attempts to make content interesting. Although Indy is a great professor, his confusing use of the MRU grading system can be a challenge to understand. It is possible to get an A- in his class, but nearly impossible to get an A, and virtually impossible to get an A+, which I feel is unfair
Indy is a good professor, and he knows what he's doing. However, it's important to attend all lectures and do all assignments, as he does not post notes. If you do these, you'll pretty much be all set as long as you ask questions.
Indy is a great educator. Don't expect to get a good grade if you don't put in the effort. Classes are interesting and intriguing. He is very helpful if you ask. Take the time to do assignments and tests well and you'll get the results you deserve. Think outside the box!
He introduced new concepts in the most random and intriguing ways. It made me look forward to math and I learned a lot more than just calculus. He puts in the effort to get to know the students and because of the very interactive class I got the chance to meet some very cool people. Would highly recommend him (unless you need notes).
Indy is funny but his style of teaching is not is not good, especially if you struggle with Math. He makes you stand in front of the entire class even if you're shy. He calls on you as well and makes you feel dumb if you don't know the answer. I don't like the format of the class. He isn't clear when explaining things and he's a very hard marker.
Dr. Lagu is without a doubt one of the best profs at MRU. He is sincere and passionate about teaching, and it certainly shows. His style of teaching was very effective for me, and I was sad to see the semester come to an end. I hope to take as many classes with Dr. Lagu as possible. Solid, solid guy.
He's a funny professor and makes it clear what is expected of you.
Great class even if you don't love math.
Absolutely love Indy. He is quirky and funny. Different style of class, the students teach the topics, which was interesting but effective. Class was interactive. He is caring and understanding and will help you, you just have to ask! Hope to have him again
Very good class. Choose a good group as you'll be presenting and possibly completing assignments with them. Study as much as you can for the quizzes, then the final will be much easier.
Dr. Lagu does not lecture much. He will force you to often write solutions on the board. It is not helpful when you are not confident with the material. Would not recommend to take him ,especially if you did not study calc in high school.
If you are not good at math or have not taken calculus in high school stay away from this prof. You basically have to teach yourself the material. He is terrible at answering questions and makes you feel stupid. Would not recommend.
This was by far one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. Lagu is a great guy, but his style of teaching is horrid. For the assignments you're left to figure everything out for yourself which he barely covers in class. For the assignments he is an extremely hard marker, I suggest pairing up with someone to make the load a bit easier for yourself.
Great prof! I do not believe I will ever have a better prof! I was really struggling, did poorly on the first 4 tests, so I talked to him. He helped me see that I can do anything as long as I set my mind to it, and on the last test I got 100 and the final a 97! Pulled my mark up to an A! As well, after our final he took us out for drinks! :)
Challenging class, but he is very nice and funny! As well, super caring, so you can count on him if you the class isn't going well, just talk to him and he'll help however he can!
Guy prepares you for things outside just calculus. Great professor and is one of the best professors I've every had. Such a beauty.
Great guy but he makes you work for your grade. He has a very interesting style of teaching that keeps you engaged, and he is more than happy to clarify material. He is one of the profs that will meet you outside of class to make sure that you understand the material.
Entertaining, wise, and has a great sense of humor. My fav prof since Grade 10. Now, he's no easy marker -- you need to show up and be prepared to work, and if need be, talk to him. But if you're willing to study and put in effort, you'll find a great teacher.
By far one of the best & most memorable Profs I've ever had! Encourages participation; it's the best way to learn. He's available and present to help you be successful; this is your future, so take the initiative. Material related to real life to gain appreciation, he's hilarious & passionate about learning. Take his classes, you won't regret it!
This is the HARDEST course I have ever taken! Trust me, if you can teach yourself (not math) but stuff like decoding without a teacher explaining how it is done.. take this class, but if you need to be taught to succeed in something, STAY AWAY! He does not teach, he makes the class teach even if they do not know what they are teaching. GOOD LUCK!!!
He gives great lectures and is easy to listen to. Makes students teach the class, which some people like. I loved it! I truly understood the topics I had to present
Indy is a great professor, you will get out what you put in. 1505 was a hard but fun class! Really makes you think outside the box. Hands down one of the best university classes i've taken, Indy makes his class really stick with you.
Indy made me ACTUALLY like math. One of the most interesting courses I've ever taken and I've never laughed so hard in a class. Great choice for an elective or GNED requirement. Indy says he's "not a teacher because they're way more talented than him" though he instructs the class in ways that ensures all students will leave having learnt something
I learned quite a bit and enjoyed the class. I did not like the requirements for his assignments or the grading scale used, though. You MUST use LaTeX (a word processor popular in the math field), but are given little to no guidance on how to use it. He marks on a 4.0 scale, not %; if you get ONE thing wrong, there's no chance for an A or 4.0.
Really nice guy, keeps it straightforward.
Indy is a nice guy. The final was worth 40% which was extremely stressful, students made up the study guide based on the chapters groups covered during the semester. I did not like math before this class and after taking this class, I'm still not a fan. Quizzes worth 30% also, every second or third Thursday. Attend the class and study, you'll be ok
Indy is such a nice guy and knows his stuff. Really lucky to have him as a prof this semester.
Indy teaches a flipped classroom format, so most of class time is spent solving problems. You do spend a good amount of time teaching yourself the course content, as he does not go over much in class. Solid choice for people who enjoy flipped classrooms. He is friendly and approachable if you have questions.
Indy is a nice guy. However, unless you actually enjoy teaching yourself the majority of the content, I suggest taking a prof that actually wants you to understand the content by the end of the class. Indy's flipped classroom style is helpful to some students, but it causes others extreme stress when we have no clue what we are doing and why.
Indy is a nice guy, but one of the worst math prof I've ever had! He doesn't cover everything that's going to be on the assignments. There is no textbook and online notes are so useless. HIs teaching style doesn't work of a lot of students and causes a lot of stress. I used to enjoy math but after taking it with him, I hate it.
Indy is a wonderful professor. If you're looking for an easy class that requires no work, this is NOT for you - he explains this in the syllabus/outline. However, if you participate and try your best, you WILL finish the class with an A. He is extremely accessible and will work with you until you truly grasp the concept. Super entertaining too.
Best prof I've ever had. His teaching style might not work for some but he reinvigorated a love for math that I had lost in jr high. In addition, a lot of the stuff he brought up in class would come up again later in computer/math related classes, so since I've taken this class uni has been much easier
An all-around great dude that's fascinating to listen to both in inside and outside of his lectures. One of the best profs I've ever had.
This class was the best class I have ever taken. Classes were always very useful and the classroom environment that Indy creates is second to none. If you put in effort, Indy will also go above and beyond to make sure you are having success. I have never met a professor who has made me love learning and coming to class more than Indy!
Indy's lectures consists of participation and class thinking, if you work better by writing notes from a power point this class is not for you. Indy has office hours open through the week for assistance, go to them! Class is mandatory to keep up to date with all the new criteria in every class. All assignments and exams are easy if you study notes!
NEVER LECTURED. Our class time basically was the class practicing problems on the chalkboard and when you asked for help he would say no. He rarely helped with math problems and was a horrible professor in my opinion. He was however an amazing human and really respected his students and helped with personal issues where possible.
NEVER LECTURED. Our class time basically was the class practising problems on the chalkboard and when you asked for help he would say no. He rarely helped with math problems and was a horrible professor in my opinion. He NEVER taught anything in class and expected you to learn everything by yourself in Calculus II. WORST PROF EVER & STAY CLEAR.
His typical flipped classroom style of teaching didnt work well the first 2 weeks, so he adjusted accordingly. We didnt have midterms, just assignments on Wiley and LaTex & the final. He is very reasonable & is a great person. He also responds quickly to emails. There were no surprises on the final. I didnt like the class content though.
Indy is a great professor, who is caring and respects all of his students. His classes are different than the typical note-taking and practice questions class. He wants you to learn and not memorize the material. If you rather taking notes and practicing questions with no participation his classes will not be for you. I enjoyed this class very much
The worst prof. ever. Asked us to look up videos online for solution, don't ask him for it. Doesn't want to actually teach, and told us to hire a tutor for help. Also, asked us to write as you're writing a Math book, and Math solution to be in English, Focus on punctuation and grammar. Care for English, and marks it wrong if not to his standard.
Asked us to hire tutor, don't ask him for anything. Doesn't want to actually teach, waste of class. Asked us to write in a Math book form, and Math solution to be in English, Focus on punctuation and grammar. Care for English, and marks it wrong if not to his standard. Asked us to learn Latex coding and accept ONLY in that form. WORST PROF. EVER.
If Indy taught this class in person, I wouldnt have taken him. Youre basically teaching yourself. Had the final been in person, I probably wouldnt have done too well. For one of the other ratings, unless you never attended class/read the announcements, he allowed other formats (i.e. writing it out + scanning) for assignments, not just LaTex :)
I'm quite surprised that he got high ratings. He is the worst prof. I had him for W19 semester and he never ever taught the class - not even for 2 mins. He expects you to learn from the textbook and watching videos. When you ask him a question, he doesn't help, he tells you to solve yourself or ask a classmate. I don't get how he became a professor
The greatest professor at Mount Royal, no doubt.
Caring prof overall! Hands out assignments that are challenging but not impossible. When you need help, the help is there. Not the type to teach and lecture but definitely looks for input from the class a lot. I found classes very engaging and enjoyable to learn the content. The negative reviews about him seem that it was a trial of the online env
I found Indy to be a great professor overall. As others have mentioned, he has a flipped classroom style of teaching and doesn't record nor posts notes from lectures. Even if classroom participation isn't your thing, I'd recommend you to this class with Indy. Finally, all assignments are required to be written using LaTeX so be ready for that.
Indy was extremely awful to learn from. we wrote our own quizzes, final and daily classes, we pretty much taught ourselves (and maybe that is your thing) but besides not teaching at all, the weekly assignments were 100% harder because he makes you guess. Punctuation is extremely important since you get marks docked every time you miss a comma.
It honestly baffles me that so many people give this guy good ratings. BARELY lectures and refuses to help. Your mark is based solely on the assignments which he marks you mostly based on formatting, not math. He makes you feel dumb if you dont know the answer to content he doesnt even teach. You wont come out of his class with math knowledge.
Taking a math course from Indy is really pathetic. Throughout the course we barely go over any content so he makes up for this by making us work super hard on formatting our assignments which are the majority of your mark. I feel like Mount Royal has robbed me of 900 dollars that I will never get back. Dont take a course from this guy.
I really dislike this professor's teaching style. It is hard for me to pass because the flip style classroom isn't my style of learning. I hated every minute of it. It took too much of my time to format in latex and left to learn on my own because he doesn't even teach anything in class, but just make us solve questions with random people in class.
He is by far the WORST PROF to have. I took him because a lot of people said he was good and he WASN'T. He did not even teach at all. He expects you to learn everything by yourself. You would need to be in group, look up videos on youtube or ask another prof to help you understand the concepts. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS!!!
Taking a math course from Indy is really pathetic. He NEVER EVER teaches the class - he expects you to teach yourself or be in a group (doesn't really help if other students are okay in math). I feel like Mount Royal has robbed me of 900 dollars that I will never get back. DON'T TAKE ANY COURSES FROM THIS GUY.
He never teaches anything except for a few rare days where he explains things, but that was it. I can count it with one hand. You are left to learn everything by yourself. He forces you to be in groups and sometimes some students aren't very understanding that not everyone is good at math and makes you feel stupid to the students around you.
Indy is the worst prof I have had by far. 70% of your mark is based on his assignments that are graded based on his formatting “guidelines”, NOT math! I am a straight A student and I tried so hard on this class but he always found a way to doc me marks because of something so pathetic such as missing a comma between equations!?
Indy is a terrible prof and MRU needs to fire him ASAP! He tries to get by with doing least amount of work possible. He gets angry when you email him with questions. His assignment guidelines are a joke and carry the majority of the weight of your marks. He is very condescending and likes to embarrass you in-front of the whole class.
I took Indy because I read his ratings and he had relatively good ratings... Indy has made 1505 harder then it has to be. He marks you on formatting and sentence structure, grammar, etc...He will give you a bad mark if you don't follow his guidelines you basically get a terrible grade .He also doesn't answer your questions.
The most passive-aggressive & underqualified professor at MRU (should be fired ASAP). 7 assignments (10% each), final (30%). Assignments must be written up using Latex, meaning most of your time is spent formatting, not learning actual Math. Don't take this prof if you like being mocked and harassed every time you're in the classroom.
Indy has a very odd attitude and has weirdy strict rules for his assignments, if you do not think like he does he will assume you are dumb. He gives very little to no feedback and marks extremely tough.
teaching style is not desirable, you basically read the textbook and teach yourself. The things he did show us in class RARELY showed up on a test. he never explained questions that were found on the test so you just had to hope you understood the textbook. unnecessary amount of group learning. final worth 40% is absurd. super nice and funny guy
Terrible teacher, does not teach, grading system is incompetent and does not reflect what the mru grading system should be. He expects you to do your assignments in groups without teaching the topics, so you learn everything yourself. Teacher has taught me about grammar more then he actually has taught me anything. WASTE OF MONEY.
Indy is a caring professor overall, he is a nice professor but he is a tough grader. And, his feedback never makes sense and does not let you improve your grades. However, his teaching style is ok if you are the kind of person who likes being picked on a lot and being active in the class.
The WORST prof you could ever get. He taught using the "flipped classroom" method, meaning everything is SELF TAUGHT. ABSOLUTELY nothing we talked about in class was on tests/quizzes. There were no course documents that taught you how to do his assignments. DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM SAVE YOURSELF FROM WASTING MONEY
Don't let the rating fool you. Not only does this prof not teach, but he leaves you unprepared for the final exam.
don't bother, he does not teach whatsoever, I've never met a more shitty teacher.
Dr. Lagu is probably the best professor ever to be honest his class of logic is just blow minding. He like sot make you participate which is cool as is a puzzling class.
Great prof, indy is always very accommodating if you ask ahead of time, and the course content is taught very well.
You'll want to work with Indy for the community and fun classroom environment in general. The material itself is only partially covered in class, yet the most important/challenging concepts are covered. This is why numerous students struggle with him, but if you have a decent Math background, and a sense of discipline, you will enjoy your time.
Indy is a great prof and means well, and takes the time to get to know his students. However, the course material can be very tough so be prepared to ask questions and take the time to practise the concepts shown in class. Indy gives time to his students and is often available after class for help.
He is a tough grader and his assignment guidelines are quite strict. However, he does give students time to master tougher concepts during class time. You will have to do a considerable amount of practice outside of class time to master everything.
If you put the work in, you get the grade. He is a fair grader and he sticks to what he says about the course itself and his expectations. The catch about the final is that there is no catch, everything comes from what he talks about in class
Honestly, Indy is a lovely man and how he teaches is certainly unique in a good way. It does require you to know your prerequisite knowledge. But you actually learn the content when you participate. Actually get to know him and you shall do well in his class.
I've never had a math teacher who is such an expert at what he teaches. I learned more in this class than probably all of the other math courses I took combined. A clear warning however: this class will beat you up. The assignments are difficult, you get a new one every single week, and they are heavy on proofs. The tests were easy in comparison.
Not a bad prof if you attend classes and are willing to put in a good amount of effort. Most problems you have to think about yourself until he reveals how to actually do it which can be annoying and requires you to be in class. He rarely posts anything on D2L so missing a class can mean you can't answer a problem on an assignment.
Indy was a great prof. He often talked to students, and made some good jokes. Although he is quite strict and a tough grader, it is balanced out with his other qualities. Make sure you attend all lectures, or you will miss completely something. He barely uses D2L but he's amazing in class. I hope I don't have to take it again next semester!
Really bad professor. He doesn't teach anything that's on the assignments in class. His teaching style doesn't teach you anything and you have to figure out how to do the work in the assignments yourself. Really would avoid this professor at all costs.
He barely teachers anything important in class and if he does, it's very quick brief. He very unapproachable and marks super hard. Take any other teacher, he expects you to know everything yourself.
Only thing good about this professor is that he is retiring. Unnecessarily hard marker and expects you to know everything. Does very little teaching himself, expects the class to teach themselves.
Just not a good person. He has a snobby and derogatory tone in his assignment guidelines and he marks unnecessarily hard. He acts as if he knows everything and no one else can be right. He doesn't respond to emails cordially or in a timely manner. He teaches very little during classes and expects you to teach yourself. Avoid taking classes with him
Indy is a good instructor with an engaging and humorous teaching style. The issue I had is that he made this class way harder than it should be. The assignments and course material are easy, but he heavily penalized for minor non math related errors like missing a comma. Formatting assignments using latex took longer than the actual assignments.
Indy is fun & answers questions well. His round-about teaching style is hard to follow at first but he ties it together by the end. Attend lectures or you will fall behind. He can be degrading but is funny & sarcastic. There is many class discussions that are fun & helpful. LaTeX is tricky, but I learnt quickly. Meet his requirements & you'll pass.
Indy is unkind and degrading. He doesn't teach you anything, makes you figure out the math on your own, and his assignments don't connect to the course content at all. I genuinely thought the content was interesting but Indy ruined the course for me. Sucks that he's the only one who teaches it. AVIOD IT!!!
Really fun personality and really interesting class. As much a friend as a professor, as cliche as it sounds
The absolute worst. Not sure how this professor has decent reviews. The guy makes you take time outside of class to meet with him to discuss your assignment answers. He does not teach and instead forces the class to work on problems together collectively in class to learn. Maybe this works for some students but I could not learn at all. Marks hard!
