HE IS VERY NICE AND VERY HOT
The subject was hard, but it he handled it well. Most of the materials were as clear as they would get. He spent a great deal of time in explaining theoretical models. I enjoyed his aproach.
Excellent professor. Teaches theories so every1 can understand. Clear and concise. Pronounces words excellently and does not mumble at all. And i agree he is very hot =)
EXAMS ARE DIFFICULT. NO MC. I GOT 40'S ON MY EXAMS, WHICH WERE CURVED INTO C+. VERY FRUITY. AVOID THIS CLASS!!
He is a hard teacher but he is very fair. By the way, I didn't appreciate the personal attack comment below (totally uncalled for) but that's what you get when some of your students are immature idiots. Good teacher. Recommended for those who don't mind working hard.
This class is no joke. it really is hard there is 10 problems to do for homework almost every week, and the exams are no multiple choice. you have four problems and you have to solve them...however, he makes things clear and he is hot!
very very boring. not the best teacher, but means well. i was never sure of when assignments were due. exams much harder than class material.
This class deals with lots of graphs - you get homework (problem set assignments) which are difficult! Three exams - first and second are 25% and final is 35%. He is a hard professor - going to recitation is a must! He grades on high curves, which is good and bad. Learning wise - I wish I had learned more, he was boring and walks around too much!
Great guy. He's easy going, sweet and willing to help and explain any material that might be unclear to the student. Has problem sets that arent graded, but are crucial to understanding the material and are very helpful while studying for the exam. Contrary to everything you might hear and what some have said here, his exams arent so hard at all.
If you are looking to increase your GPA, DO NOT take this course or any course he teaches. He gives essay type exams and assigns too many points to each question. His exams are harder than what he talks about in the lectures. If you don't argue your reasoning behind any answers you give in exams, your answer is wrong.
I had no background or interest in economics until I took his class. He makes it as clear as possble without being redundant. As long as you keep up with his HWs and study them, You will get a good grade(B and above). His exams are exactly the same as the HWs.
One of the best professors. being loved by the true students, being resented by the so called students. I took both of his classes. I love his classes.
AVOID HIM ALL YOU COST. I DID NOT LEARNED ANYTHING FROM HIM. IN THE EXAM I ONLY GOT 15 OVER 100. HE USED APLIA , AND IT'S NOT HELPFUL IT JUST A WASTE OF TIME . HE IS LIKE GOLBE .
I enjoyed this class because he's so engaging and passionate about what he teaches. However, the exams were hard because he does not give enough examples in class and the textbook (Varian's) is not that useful when you're studying for exams. The average grade on the first exam was a 38 and the second a 58 but he curves. Not an easy A, or B!
Great professor. Very passionate about economics and math. Make sure you are ok with Calc 1 before you take ECO300
He is a very good professor. His concept are very concise, that's also if you're pretty comfortable with the English language because he tends to use a lot of big words. Very sweet and passionate though. He's also a very handsome guy. I wouldn't recommend him, if you don't have a strong or even some basic knowledge of calculus, b/c you'll need that
You will understand the material as long as you go to class and keep up with the problem sets that are posted on Black Board. And as an added bouns, he's HOT!
Awesome professor. Very smart. Always on point with his stuff. And did I mention, he's HOT HOT HOT... The best in the whole economics department, in Hunter College all together.
Ingmar (prefers you use first name) is a very punctual, very dedicated professor. His lectures are very well planned and he knows the material he is presenting very well. The exams are difficult as he expects you to understand what he has covered in class very well and tests you for it. Don't miss class as there is material covered not in the boo
Great teacher. Lectures are extremely helpful and he doesn't cover very much material per-lecture (for better or worse). Taking him again next semester.
Please don't take this professor, his class was extremely difficult. I aced all my other classes except this one. He only teaches theories in class but expects you to apply them on the test without ever teaching you how. Wait for another teacher to teach the course.
great professor. He is always on time.He knows his stuff and teaches it very well.He posts exercises and prior exams on BB so you'll have an idea of what his exams are about.Go to class and solve the problems on BB since his test are alsmot the same as the problems on BB.It's not that hard if you don't miss his lectures
He is very helpful and understanding. Exams are very hard but the lectures are good and must.
He's an excellent professor. Teaches intermediate micro on a higher level so if you are looking for an easy class don't take him.I thoroughly enjoyed it.Didn't use the text book much.Must go to lectures bc he teaches you everything you need to know there.Very helpful.Must do about 8 aplia quizzes(drops 2 lowest),2 midterms at 25%, 1 final at 30%.
I have no idea what people are talking about when they say his exams are hard. He pretty much gives you the answers to his exams. Study your notes and his sample problems he posts on Blackboard. I honestly got an A without even picking up the book. I think people find his class hard because there is a lot of math involved. Easy A
Don`t take his class if you want to keep your GPA in tact. It will be demolished. Did well in all previous Eco classes, till this one. Test questions themselves are not clear, you don`t know what kind of answer he wants. you do your best only to get the worst grade of your life. The lectures are fine, but the grades, after studying so hard, are not
Tests are extremely hard. NO multiple choice. 4 questions with a,b,c,d,e, parts. You have to graph and explain every step.
I was horrified by my first test score, but it caused me to work harder in this class. And while his tests are difficult, he curves the grades generously. If you have problems, talk to him after class or during his office hours -- he's really nice, and not at all intimidating.
This class isn't easy if you're not in love with eco. The professor is really nice, his exams are not easy at all, far from it but he is curving generously and he is very, very nice. i didn't go great at his class (B-), but i can't say i can blame him completely. do the sample tests, read the book well, attend class and you'll be fine.
Great Professor. The class and tests are hard but if you pay attention and come to class you will do well. He is also very nice and helpful before exams. One of the best economics professors at Hunter.
I love Nyman....he is soooo awesome!!! please take him but you will have to work. Don't expect an easy A but it is possible...only if you work for it. He is super modest as well!!! loved the class and Nyman.
2 midterms and 1 final. He is a great professor, but his exams is really hard. You have to learn from the problem sets because he just teaches you the concept. He also curves alot!!
He is a pretty good professor. Tends to over-complicate some topics though. He tries to get excited about the material but in the end it is somewhat tedious. You MUST go over the practice problem sets and exam if you want anything above a decent grade. The problems on the exam are very similar. In my opinion you don't really need the textbook
He is a great professor! His exams are hard but if you come to class and pay full attention, and study sample exams and problems sets you will do good. He is also big on curves and he is very helpful during office hours!
Do not take this professsor because he will confuse you! He makes the class material seem very complicated, when it really isn't. He writes all of his notes on the board, but presents them in a very boring matter.
Great guy! Knows his subject pretty well. Prepare to study! There are no MC on the exam. Pure analysis-short answers, graphs etc. Book isn't necessary . Carefully analyze problem sets and practice exams that he posts on BB and you will get a decent grade(<B+ and above)Curves a lot!
Just the best. The guy's hyper-intelligent; knows micro inside-out. Very straightforward with expectations (perhaps not so with true-false questions on exams however). Cracked jokes here and there. Prefers to be called by first name, which deconstructs all sorts of barriers. Very approachable; was happy to show me a lengthy proof after class.
This professor has very well constructed lessons. Everything you need comes from lecture. Gives you sample exam and problem set to prepare for the exam. Exams are very similar to sample.
Nice guy, willing to answer any questions and will spend time with you until you get it. Two midterms worth 30%, one final for 40%(not cumulative). Do the problem sets and sample exams because they're extremely helpful for exams. Textbook useful, but if you pay attention in class he goes over material well enough to not need it.
Very knowledgable but challenging at the same time.
Although a difficult class, professor Nyman tried to be as clear as possible & would always go back if you needed more clarification. He also provided practice problem sets & sample exams. I liked his teaching style so much I'm taking intermediate micro with him as well. Definitely one of the more helpful professors in the economics department.
Great challenging prof. Very knowledgeable in Eco, very respectful and nice individual. You will learn if you take notes and study them. I like how he teaches so much that I'm taking Inter. Micro. With him this semester. Prof. Nyman & Prof. Baker are among the best in the Eco. Dept. TAKE THEM!!!!
Second class I've taken with him and this time was even better. Pay attention in class and take good notes because he teaches way better than anything in the textbook. Do the problem sets and sample exams! He always takes time to answer questions whether during or after class. One of the best professors in the department.
Not a good professor - Two midterm exams at 30% and a final at 40%. No homework just practice problem sets. The exams are very difficult. He teaches the same topics from his head every semester; He tries to put it in different ways but he is confusing you most of the time. Some of the topics are very boring most times. He is the only one for this.
Nyman is a good professor. He teaches you only the basic concepts so you MUST, I repeat, you MUST, study the problem sets and practice exams to do well. His exams are challenging and require a more in-depth understanding of the material than what is taught in class. Textbook is not necessary.
2 Exams & the Final. Approachable. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you miss class, you'll probably get lost. If a student doesn't understand something, he stops the class until they understand. He's lenient with test dates. Aplia assignments are quiz grades. Study from the Sample test and problem sets, the test are exactly the same.
This is a real college course !!!!!Hard! Hard ! Hard !
2nd time taking him. He is a respectable prof. He is willing to spend extra class time on a difficult subject & defer a test date, if necess. However, this course is challenging & requires effort. Study his problem sets & practice exams and you should be fine as he does curve. Exams do not reflect online HW so do not have to stress over them.
This is a tough class! Do not take if you want your GPA to take a huge dive! The material is confusing and it is too much to study for the exam. Even though there are sample problem sets and exams, it is still pretty tough... You have to be good at memorization. This prof. is very nice and helpful but exams are horrible!
Professor Nyman is the best .The most approachable and understanding guy, . his lectures are always organized and clear. you don't need a book as long as you attend the class. 2 Midterms and 1 final (NOT CUMULATIVE) JUST STUDY PRACTICE TESTS AND SAMPLE EXAMS AND YOU WILL DO FINE. I WISH HE WAS TEACHING MORE CLASSES. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND HIM.
If you're an accounting major, do NOT take him. Your GPA will drop. His class is incredibly hard and he makes the concepts harder than they actually are, especially the math aspect of the course. He's nice but it's not worth it.
This class is really tough. Study well in advance his problem sets and sample exams so you can ask him questions before exams, I cannot stress this enough! Some concepts are confusing and it takes time to understand them. He is a really nice person and would gladly help you if you seek his help, do not be shy to ask questions in class. Good luck!
He is a really nice guy and his class is super laid back but his exams are so difficult. The review sheets and online problems he gives are much easier compared to the actual exams so they don't help as much as you would think.
His review exams are nothing like his exams itself. He is very monotone and puts you to sleep. Horrible, never again.
Ingmar is one of the clearest lecturers I've ever had. All you need is his notes. But, I find his tests completely obnoxious. He provides practice Qs, but they're more applied and easier than the exams', which require explanations for everything. He's stringent when grading. If possible, I would attend his lectures and take someone else's class.
Absolute GPA dropper, would not recommend taking him for any class, he is way too tough for an elective class. His tests are very hard for no reason and he does not give partial credit on exams even though he claims he does. Very bad experience.
Yes, there are a lot of horror stories about how Professor Nyman is a GPA dropper, but what these stories failed to mention is how great a professor he is. He really know material, and does not mind repeating himself. His exams are difficult, but there is no reason for anyone to fail if they pay attention in class and the practice problems and exam
He is a good teacher, he's also a very tough teacher. The horror stories are true, he is a GPA dropper. His lectures are usually clear and direct. He does ask the class frequently if they understand and if everything is ok. His test are hard. He grades them fair, but you have to be really specific, exactly how he described it in class.
He's a great professor. Very intelligent, funny, helpful. Lectures are well organized, and if you really pay attention in class you won't need to open the textbook. Reading your notes after every class helps prepare for the exams, there's no homework. Exams are written and not easy, but manageable.
he knows his stuff. the class is difficult not going to lie. but if you study the review packet he gave us and understand whats going on in those questions youre good. I think those who got a bad grade want an easy A, and they don't actually want to work for it by studying. his class is not an easy A but I feel that you learn a lot from him.
Not a bad teacher; very poor time management. Often spends too much time on the simplest of material and will rush to do the problem at the end of class (often extending class 5-10 minutes). No textbook used, and none really needed. If you do his problem set and practice exam you will be fine. Lectures are helpful but not needed if you do this.
Tests are all in word problem format, no multiple choice. He barely gives partial credit on the test even though you are so close to being right. It's either you get it or you don't.
This is my first review on ratemy professor because of Nyman, such an intelligent man you have to take note during the class otherwise you might find somehow difficult on his exams Review sheets are a lot but once you really sit down and do the practice problems you are going to ace the exam.
If you are an accounting major, don't take him for any course especially for business organization. He teaches well but the exams are extremely hard. The tiny wording of the short answer makes you confused and you could lose 20-40 points on 1 question. I just wished I hadn't taken this class. He is too fast and doesn't do examples.
All of the reviews below are absolutely true, he is a GPA dropper! His tests are super super hard and barely resembles his practice problems. You HAVE to do the practice problems if you want to pass because those are the questions that are gonna be on the exam, not what he teaches in class! His curve is really good though which pushes your grade up
Professor Nyman is an amazing respectful teacher. He has a very organized teaching system. He teaches you concept in the class, and you are responsible for the practice which was given like quizzes, and question sets. It was well planned and structured. It is not an easy course, however, do all the practice, you definitely do well.
He doesn't say all the things in the textbook in the class. I am always writing something because he writes a lot. sometimes, i cannot identify his writing... Exam is very very heavy.
Generally a good class, with very clear expectations. Be warned! The tests are seriously difficult, and hardly any partial is given. Explanations in class are highly theoretical, with hardly any applied problems. Test is entirely applied problems, and moving from theory to application is not easy. The problem sets and practice exams are a must!!!!!
I really enjoyed Nyman's class. His tests reflect the practice problem sets he gives. All problem sets come with the answers attached so it's on you to do the work. Everything needed for the test I learned in class and from the problem sets. His class is extremely straightforward, practice the problems and you will get an A.
Don't let the comment below fool you. After first exam, most people got C(60s) and F(<40). Textbook doesn't help. The concepts are extremely difficult. Self-made questions for exam; one step harder than the PSETs. Is taking this class worth the risk? No. If you do, prepare to study really hard for an A or get ready to accept a drop in your GPA.
He knows what he's talking about and he's an amazing teacher of theory. However, his 3 tests are insanely hard, you have to explain everything, and they're the only things your grade is based on. Major tip I have is to ASK QUESTIONS. I'd be failing if I didn't add little notes from my questions. Class exam averages are 55-60, but they're curved.
He doesnt care about his students comfort level about the material he glosses over. We were supposed to have an exam and the entire class begged him to take it a day later because we were all still confused. He only dedicated 10 mins to going over weeks of material and made no attempt to further explain it to us nor check if we had questions
I loved Professor Nyman, even when classes were online. His exams are difficult but if you go to class, take notes, and do the problem sets to review then you will get an A. I'm taking a class again with him next semester because he knows his stuff & is very understanding.
The lectures were not very helpful and I ended self-studying for hours at a time (repeating problem sets and watching tons of Youtube). When I had questions, Prof always responded to my emails, but he often had difficulty explaining the concepts. Overall, he is well-meaning.
His lecture is great, however, if you don't understand his lecture, you cannot pass the class. He gives us problems and sample exams at beginning of the semester. For understanding the concepts, you should do it before the exam. His exams are very tough and you have to explain each problems(also multiple choice questions).
His explanations are difficult , but if you understand it, it is very clear. Exams are tough but you take notes and do practice problems/sample exam, you will pass.
This guy is the least understanding professor i have yet seen. I don't know who in their right mind gave him a 5/5. He doesn't clarify the material and his tests are unforgiving. If you plan on taking him think twice. He gave half the class zeros on exams because he "thought they cheated'' STAY AWAY
This professor accused the entire class of cheating on one of the exams and when some of the students brought this to his attention, those students stated they were reprimanded in a way which was reflected in their grade. Unfortunately, if you are not precise with your answer, Prof. Nyman will not award you any partial credit. Recommended to avoid.
I hate this guy. With all my heart
I really liked Ingmar. He treats students with respect and encourages participation. Lectures are important and you cant miss them. Make sure to do the problem sets, they will save your life! He does not go over problems in class, so I repeat: do the problem sets on your own. If anything, email him and he's more than willing to respond.
With his terrible handwriting, it's super difficult to keep up with his lectures and he has absolutely no forgiveness on his tests. The material is very hard to understand and even if you do, very little students in the class received high grades.
I never did one of this in all my years of college. Just do yourself a favor and find a different professor. This man really gatekeeping people from graduating
Rigorous and enjoyable lectures. incredibly intelligent man coupled with an approachable personality makes a difficult subject much more understandable and applicable to your daily thinking. you will learn a lot but be prepared to do a lot of self study, the subject is a hard one. Breaks down complex topics in a highly accessible manner.
I had him for both Eco 300 and Eco 359 and so here are my thoughts: Pros: 1. Excellent teacher. Provides a good enough theoretical base in class to work on the problem sets. 2. His problem sets and sample exams are near mirror images of the real tests. Cons: 1. Brutal with partial credit. 2. The paces of both classes and the grading really sucked.
He is completely an awful Professor. He does not even have a textbook students can refer to to understand better his lectures. He is very generous for giving C or C+. Never cares if you struggle with his subject. His exams are torture.
No slides, hard to understand his blackboard writing, exam grading is harsh
Do not take if you value your sanity. Entire grade based on 3 tests and online HW. Prof says he gives partial credit on tests, but it is almost non existent even if you get majority of the question correct. Tests are brutal.
Professor Ingmar is such a great lecturer, he makes class interesting and encourages students to ask questions. If you do not attend his lectures it is most likely that you are going to do poorly in his class. He also provides example exams and practice question, which are a mirror image of his tests. Not only that but he does heavy curves.
Even if you come to class, you may not pass. He doesn't record lectures. There's no extra credit, no reviews, and his exams are all word answers(no multiple choice.) All he teaches in class are formulas/equations. He wants you to buy a subscription for a book from Norton but he doesn't even use the book, he just uses the website to assign HW. AVOID.
He only uses the whiteboard but his handwriting is bad. The whole class is centered around math formulas which are long with many steps. There are no formula sheets on exams(no multiple choice). He doesn't record lectures and there's no review so if you miss a day, you'll be completely lost. I showed up to every class but I'm still failing.
Prof Ingmar is a great lecturer, he encourages questions and takes the time to answer them well. 3 tests, rough partial credit though. 7 HWs and unlimited attempts so it's easier to get 100s on them. Lowest HW and test are dropped. Practice problems/exams are great for the tests but be prepared to put in the time for this class.
Exams are very tough, best to read the chapters before class and review class notes, sample exams and problems sets in order to pass the exams.
Professor Nyman is a great person. He is patient and understanding. Feel free to reach out to him if you have any questions.
Professor Nyman was a pleasure to have this semester. He truly cares about his students and does a great job explaining tough concepts. Be sure to come to class and take notes as he does not use slides. It is also best to visit his office hours whenever you can!
He only used whiteboards which were so hard to understand and didn't use slides or anything to go back to so you have to attend class all the time. exams were so tough and the curve barely helped.
Professor Nyman is a nice professor, but his teaching style is not good. He only uses the chalkboard, with no slideshows or any sort of pdf notes that can be used for reference. His handwriting is not legible. For the 3 exams, class average was around 30-40, that says a lot about how hard the exams were. No exam review, only passed because of curve
Nyman does not accept any late work in his ECO classes if you like to get an A or higher grade pls considering taking someone else. Also, a friendly reminder that is he is not your friend at all whatever it is on campus or in your personal lives. He does not care about you as an ordinary human being. So do not rely on his own words in his classes.!
He is not that good like/or as you expected. This man is tougher than you think/or like you think. That one is not your friend at all. Everyone is acting with him including myself. His classes are exam heavy. Try to take someone else for this ECO 200 class if possible. It is some other reviews said avoid this guy pls ~.
only writes on the board(no slides or visuals other than his drawings that are difficult to interpret)assigns homework that actually makes sense onAcheivebut then exams are completely different&all writingonly good thing is he curves the exambut the last exam even with the curve had to fail 50% of the class&doesnt see thatasareflectionofhisteaching
Professor Ingmar's class is challenging, but engaging if you put in the work. His lectures are crucial, and doing the practice problems is key. Unstuckstudy proved super helpful for exam prep alongside the sample tests. Tough grader, but a fair one.
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND PLEASEEEEEEE DO NOT TAKE HIM NO MATTER WHAT, TAKE THIS CLASS WITH ANYONE ELSE BUT HIM TAKE IT SUMMER WINTER E PERMIT IDK BUT DO NOT TAKE IT WITH HIM HE IS REALLY TOUGH GRADER I DID NOT PAYED ATTENTION TO THE OTHER COMMENTS ABOUT HIM AND I AM ABOUT TO FAIL THIS CLASS CONTENT ITSELF NOT HARD BUT HE MAKES IT HARD DONT TAKE HIM!
Very tough to learn the content for this class with this professor, you will have to teach yourself.
He is a really nice person but his tests are extremely difficult. Do not take this class if you don't need to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Professor Nyman is someone who is very intelligent and knows his stuff. He doesn't use slides so get ready to write everything on the board. His exams are very difficult. And although there were times where I hated his class, I do respect him. Go to his office hours and study your ass off.
Ingmar did a tremendous job of breaking down the material into simple lectures. His lectures are outstanding, and he always asks if the class is on board before moving on! A good understanding of calculus makes the economics easier to learn. Visiting Ingmar's office is the key to success! Intermediate Micro is a challenging yet rewarding class!
