I really learned a lot about in this class. She is passionate and understanding. Changed her name from Johnson to the current one during my semester. Such a sweet and funny lady. I really enjoyed the class. Watched a fair amount of related movies that really open your eyes to things you might not have been aware of before. Take this class with her
I had a 3 hr geog. class with her. Very boring. She has you watch 15 minute videos then talks about them for an hour. She posts the videos online, so most people leave halfway through the class. She gives a 10 pt. map quiz every week. Map quizzes take 2 minutes to study for and are very easy. 2 exams-mildy hard and one 5 page paper and presentation
clearly, she knows her material. she writes notes on the boards and plays random videos every week. but her teaching... her teaching is inevitably terrible. why? every topic she relates to either her divorce from her husband, who she claims to be black & broke her heart. then she'll move on to her half asian/half black daughther who she raised. she
She does have an accent. and does mention her divorce and coming here from her country and things in her life quite a bit. I miss alot because she doesn't really get much through to me IN class. she just talks. so i wait for the study guide before tests and just study that.
She spends a lot of time on one chapter and expects you to read the rest from the book that she doesn't cover. Tests are not based on what is taught in the class.
I really enjoyed her class even though she may be off topic at times. She outlines the chaper on board. NOtes that you take in class will be on the test. Read the book b/c a lot of information she doesnt cover in class is on the test.
I loved her. She explains everything with a good background to it. She uses an example for everything she teaches which extremely helps! As long as you study the material given, you will ace this class!
She is the Frau, and she's amazing. Has a pretty interesting story and knows the planet like the back of her hand. Has difficulty answering some questions, I guess it's the language barrier. Quite fantabulous.
Look under Ingrid Johnson for more ratings. She is a really cool lady, but not the best teacher out there. Gets off topic and falls behind fast. If you need SOCI 101 for a Gen Ed, take it with her. 4 50 question MC Exams and a participation grade that isn't really based on anything.
She is a really fun teacher and makes funny comments during class. She definitely encourages everyone to participate in class and she teaches directly out of the book. I was suggest taking her for an easy A in a gened. Besides being an awesome teacher she is just a cool woman.
Had her for both Soci 249 and Soci 101. Shes a great teacher. Very open and interested in your opinion. Shes pretty liberal and that might rub some conservatives the wrong way. She offers relatively easy extra credit points. Only one paper and 3 tests for Soci 249. Just 4 tests for Soci 101. Would def. take again.
Ingrid is a pretty good teacher, although she has a tendency to fall behind on the material. She's very knowledgeable, genuinely interested in what her students have to say, more than willing to help, and offers TONS of opportunities to earn extra credit.
VERY nice lady- not the best teacher. easy class. bring other hw
Her tests are all based on study guides and definitions. Tests can have tricky questions which hurt me. Gave extra credit which was nice. Had fun in class but got bored near the end.
This class was one week in class one week online. The online part which is where all the points came from did not work. Professor was not very helpful with the many technical failures of the class.
Ingrid teaches straight out of the textbook, however she includes her own personal stories which helps the learning process. This leads to her getting behind. The actual lecture portion of class was easy, especially if you like participating as she loves to ask questions. The tests can be tricky. I worked pretty hard but never got an A on a test.
Shes cool and makes the funniest facial expressions
She is a super nice person, often talks about her own experiences which help understanding the topics. She also runs marathons and talks about that a lot, class was easy and fun though, definitely recommended!
Sometimes it's hard to understand her because of her strong accent, but she writes everything on th board, so make sure you sit in the front. Her study guides cover exactly what you need to know for the tests. We had four tests and no papers!
Ingrid is an awesome lady. She is really fun to talk to outside of class, and she is facebook friends with most of her students. She talks a lot about current events, her life, and other things irrelevant to the class material...which leads to her get really behind. If you participate in class, study her study guides, you will get an A.
I love Ms.Ingrid!!!! She keeps the class interested with interesting and funny stories related to the topics we cover in class..very open with her students. Only 4 tests, as long as you use the study guides it's an easy A.
I would never take her again. Uses movies in place of teaching. If you have a problem with accents don't take her, she is difficult to understand.
If you want an easy A, take her, but go into this class knowing that she is an extreme extremist. She thinks anyone who is rich and/or white are terrible people. If you are incapable of keeping your mouth shut during debates (like me) do not take her class. She is the most aggrivating teacher I have ever taken. I suggest you don't take her.
Terrible Teacher
Class is really easy. Pretty much teaches out the book. Don't have to come to class but there is attendance so its best to come. Just study for tests and it's an easy A. 4 tests total.
Terrible teacher. All the material is biased. She hates Americans, and just talks about how great Germany is (shes German). Also she'll talk about her divorce a lot too. Tests are ridiculous, reading the book won't help because she words them weird in general. Not helpful, just annoying. Teaches with videos. Do NOT take if you can't conform AVOID!
avoid her at all costs. she hates america, and never says anything good about humanity. annoying and barely teaches at all. everythin is powerpoint or movie. verbatim from book. dont go to class. WORTHLESS! dont waste your money
Simple material, she gives lots of extra credit opportunities. She was average, not too difficult and not too easy. Tests are all multiple choice, and she actually ended up canceling class pretty often. She talked a lot about herself, so that killed a good amount of class time. She was also not so good with the computer, but she's a nice lady.
Easy A, four tests and no homework. Definitely need to study from chapter summaries at the end of each before tests. Thats all I did and got an A on all of them. Boring class, hate it when a teacher teaches solely from powerpoint. I know how to read..? Goes off topic alot. Easy class though for a gen ed
She's nice and gets along well with the class. she jokes alot and tries to get people to participate in conversations. We watch a lot of videos and she reads straight from powerpoint. Tests are all multiple choice and very easy. Only one 5 page paper. Attendance not mandatory, and most the time I didn't come and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get an A.
Nice lady, tries to have fun with the class. Kinda weird and strong german accent but its ok if u can't understand her because class is just going over the powerpoints. 4 50 MC question tests. Easy if you read the chap. and pwr points. Gives extra credit opportunities. no homework and always lets you out early.
hybrid class. lots of online work. map quizzes were easy. one project. long tests. I got a B-
INGRIDDDDD!!! Love her :) She is hilarious and makes class discussions fun.
Took class summer 2011, 1 quiz each week (online). One discussion question each week (adds points to grade). 1 five page paper, One 100 question final (study: quizzes, power point, terms, and movies that you watch). Good Prof, not a difficult class. lets you out early.
INGRID IS AWESOME! I don't care what anyone says she is hilarious. She makes the class fun and its soooo easy. DO NOT TAKE ANYONE ELSE BUT INGRID for SOCI 101 - she's awesome!!!
Easy as hell. Some interesting topics, lots of movies, tests are common knowledge. Take it
Boring class, her lectures consist of straight powerpoints you can just get from blackboard yourself. Her tests were ridiculous and ambiguous at times, and often repeated the same question so if you got that question wrong the first time, then you got it wrong again. Don't try to offer a different point of view, she'll just argue with you.
If you want an easy A, take her. If you want an interesting class, try another professor.
Class was super easy! She's so funny and makes tons of jokes. She's very laid back and easy. The class consist of only 4 test and one is the final which is just another chapter test. Class was a little boring at times but she's great.
Nice lady. Class is pointless though, you must read the book to do well on the exams. You cannot miss more than 3 classes. Gives lots of extra credit, 3 exams, and 1 paper.
Funny teacher, easy class, got an A on every test. Class is pointless but she has very interesting stories
Extremely nice lady! She can be hard to understand because of her accent sometimes, but she is nice and it this is an easy A. Im pretty sure she told us that no one has ever failed her class. She wants you to use the book, but its not hard to pass without using it. Tests are all multiple choice. One paper.
Class is not the most interesting. Reads straight out of the book and her test are all multiple choice and not hard at all. I got over a 90 on all the test (3), just read all the main points about each chapter the test is on. 1 paper which is not hard. And you watch a movie about each chapter. EASY A CLASS!!!
Basically a very aloof teacher. Be careful she doesn't lose your quizzes, because it happened to me a couple of times. She has no problems telling outright falsehoods during lectures. Very easy class, doesn't pay much attention to grading so be prepared to wait over a month for grades on anything. Personally, I can't recommend her to anyone.
I loved Ingrid as my professor. she takes attendance. in class she discusses and further explains the material (it was helpful to me). In class she reviews the powerpoints she puts on Blackboard. She has 4 tests (all from the book and like 3 questions are from the videos watched in class). She gives a lot of extra credit!!! She makes class fun!
Professor Pfoertsch is amazing. She has entertaining stories to tell and the course material is pretty easy. Acing this class is not hard at all, just make sure you read the chapters assigned before the test. 4 tests, no separate final and plenty of extra credit. Really good class!
She is such a funny lady! 4 tests, extra credit, discussion, attendance, one paper. I would love to have her again. Needs to teach more classes!
Took the summer session with Professor Pfoertsch. Something makes me believe that this class is easier during normal semesters. She does not offer extra credit. Not easy to get in touch with and can be rude. 5 quizzes, 5 discussion questions on Blackboard, 1 paper, 1 final. She gave us a study guide for the final 2 nights before the final exam.
She's pretty funny. 4 tests- not that hard. Her outlines for the tests are basically the definitions from each chapter. Just memorize the definitions and look at the power points on BB and you'll do fine. She takes attendance when she can remember, but the lectures weren't that helpful. Gives extra credit on tests based off class films
Professor Pfoertsch is awesome. She's beyond entertaining and her lectures are great. She has a great way of explaining concepts, just take notes and pay attention. She takes attendance but coming to class is enjoyable so that shouldn't matter. 4 chapter tests- no final or midterm. Definitely would take again.
Professor Pfoertsch is very energetic and knows her stuff. One 5 page paper and a five minute presentation is the only assignment. You will need the atlas and maps for quzzes 7 altogether! 2 tests you definitely have to study for! Participate because you will fall asleep or want to leave. She gives extra credit when too many people leave. A hybrid!
Professor Pfoertsch knows her stuff. A 5 page paper and a five minute presentation is the only assignment due at the end of the semester. You will need the atlas and maps for 7 quizzes and 2 tests you definitely have to study for! Participate or fall asleep. She gives extra credit when too many people leave after presentations.

She runs marathons
Lectures are mandatory because she takes attendance (like 5 times total), but its basically a discussion that has nothing to do with the test, except on the days where you watch videos. Just know the vocab from the textbook and watch the videos and its an easy A. Shes a little crazy but at least shes not boring.
A very likable professor! I don't know why people dislike her for being easy, it's just that the intro class wasn't difficult. A very discussion-based class in which you had to have read the book prior to understand lecture. She gave extra credit for attending extracurricular events. Class attendance was strictly mandatory.
4 test, no essays, get extra credit for going to extracurricular activities! She's super interesting, and if you show up you basically get an A. She only takes attendance like once a week. She is very understanding.
I barely showed up because attendance was worth only 15 out of 415 points and i had nearly perfect test scores so i did 10 points worth of extra credit to make up for my absences. you need 390/415 to get an A. its pretty easy just read the book and study the vocabs
She is a good lecturer but she goes completely off track from the material. We will get done maybe 3 powerpoint slides a class. She talks off in tangents but it's still interesting to listen to and somewhat relevant to the course. You will not learn a good sociology basis with her though. She is not focused on the course enough.
There are four multiple choice exams, all based off of the lectures and the chapters. I would recommend her and this class. Study the vocabulary and read the chapters, and you will get an A on the exams. Offers extra credit throughout the semester. Grades attendance, but if you let her know ahead of time you'll be absent it is excused.
Professor Pfoertsch is nice and funny. Attendance does count towards your grade but it's only 15 points. There are 4 exams which are 50 multiple choice/ true and false questions. As long as you read the textbook (she'll give you specific pages for each exam) and know the vocabulary, you'll get an A. She does give extra credit as well.
Very easy class to get an A in. 3 tests all MC and 1 paper 5pgs. Study the definitions through the book and the PPs and you will do just fine on the exams. Gives extra credit for class films on her tests and gives extra credit for extracurricular activities. Does give a grade on attendance too.
Easy. Her lectures are very interesting and she tries to make the material as relatable as possible. Four mulitple choice chapter tests are the only assignments. Take good notes and pay attention and you'll be fine. She's pretty funny.
I loved this class. She is one of the funniest teachers I have ever had. I enjoyed listening to her stories, and I highly recommend her! Textbook is not necessary!
This class is an easy A, definitely take her for this class. She's really funny. She does tend to go off on tangents sometimes, but her stories are interesting and tend to relate to what we're learning. Attendance is required, only 4 exams worth 100 points and attendance is 15 points. Offers extra credit as well. Take her.
Movies! Super entry-level class with an easy professor. Basically a high school class. Study guides, powerpoints/everything online, 3-4 MC exams, and one 5 page paper. Offers extra credit on exams. She is funny and tells interesting stories about being a German immigrant. I love her.
Really funny and nice lady. Her lectures were pretty boring but as long as you reviewed the powerpoints and put some effort into studying for exams its feasible to get an A /B on exams. Your grade in the class is based on only 4 exams thats it, so do well on the exams and take advantage of the extra credit and you should get an A/B in the class
Mentions things that aren't on the pwrpnt, and -'s points for absences. The pwrpnts are online and she tells you exactly what to study. Most of class's spent on discussions, so you get through maybe 4 slides per class (what the exams cover on the syllabus is way off.) Easy credit, but if you're a soci major who wants to learn, take someone else.
She's extremely sweet. I loved her stories and the discussions she created on the topics. She made me really enjoy sociology. 4 tests that are extremely easy. Study the powerpoints and take decent notes and you'll do well. Take her!!
She's a funny teacher, doesn't give much homework, takes attendance occasionally and gives tons of extra credit. Really nice and understanding I would take her again.
She takes attendance, so go to class. She has a very heavy German accent, but she's really funny. She tries to get the students involved by asking them personal questions that relate to the topic. She tends to go on tangents. She gives 0 classwork and homework, so be prepared for the tests! They're all multiple choice.
Super easy A, easiest class ever. She is a sweet & funny german lady. Loved to hear her talk and tell stories. Easiest sociology professor you'll find, assigns no homework/ quizzes. All you have to do is show up, study for exams, and take the exams. Offers extra credit if you go to events on campus. Please take her & don't stress w other professors
Professor Pfoertsch is great. The class is easy and you could just read the book outside of class without actually going to class however she does take attendance. As long as you read the book and go over the ppts youre good. She is also hilarious and authentic so it makes going to class worth it!
This was my favorite professor thus far. Come to class listen to the lectures. It's an easy A seriously. I would take her class over and over again if I could. No quizzes, papers, projects. Gives out extra credit. And the final is NOT cumulative. Best professor take her!!
Professor Pfoertsch is a really great professor. As a freshman, she was my favorite professor for my first semester at college. She is very funny which makes you enjoy being in class. Make sure you use your book to study for every test (only 4) and she's willing to give extra credit which is amazing. If you don't skip and participate you'll pass.
She is the best. Lots of times class started about 10 minutes in because she told us a funny story that related to the lectures. There were a few slow days but overall she's an AMAZING professor and an extremely easy A. I would 100% recommend this class to others (and I already have, and they thanked me).
Only 3 test and 1 paper. Attendance is graded and discussion post. The tests are right out of the book!!!! You have to buy the book to do decent on the test. I thought this class would be a lot easier than it is.
She takes attendance every class. She goes off on tangents during her lectures, but she's pretty funny. The class is boring and the tests are pretty difficult, but they're all multiple choice.
she is awesome and makes class entertaining. tests are not hard
Class is all lectures, all on blackboard so you can follow along. It consists of 4 tests, and thats it so study for them. She gives study guides which are helpful, read the chapters from the textbook and you'll be solid. She offers extra credit but they're events you have to attend and doesn't discuss them in class at all so you have to email her.
LOVE HER!!!!!! As a freshmen, she was an amazing introduction to college. She takes attendance but her lectures are interesting and hilarious. She offers extra credit. Exams are easy, skim the textbook night before to get an A. No paper or outside work. Shes from Germany so she offers an interesting perspective. TAKE HER!!!!
She was great, she let us know from the start that this was going to be an easy class. There were 4 exams that were easy if you read the book and the study guide. Dont rely too heavily on her PPTS or you will fail. She gives extra credit for just going to events in school. Just come to class and participate in her discussions.
This class was not so bad. Just come to class and participate. There are 4 exams which are not so difficult and no homework.
All you need to do is read the textbook and youll get an A
Honestly, if she didnt take attendance you could just read the book and get by. The tests are STRAIGHT from the book so dont even worry about taking heavy notes from her PPTs. During the pandemic she made us take attendance which I thought was ridiculous but overall shes a pretty funny person and her lectures werent boring.
okay, professor. she talked a lot and only went over 1-2 PowerPoint slides per class. she gave us 2 attempts for online tests I received a better grade on my 2nd attempt My worst grade went into the grade book I emailed her about it and she said shell try to fix it she never fixed it I emailed her 3 more times she never replied nor fixed my grade.
This class wasnt difficult and the textbook was not necessary. She gets every single one of her exam questions from the internet (no complaints from me). I had several instances when I reached out to her with questions or to let her know about some crisis situations in my personal life, but she literally never replied. I probably sent 10+ emails.
She's a very nice German professor. We had 3 classes with 1 live session each wk. The only grades in the class are the chapter tests, we had like 4 of them, and attendance is also graded which you have to check in on a website. She posts powerpoints that goes over what is in the textbook and there is usually a discussion thread each is optional.
I had her in person and she was pretty good, but she was disorganized. Zoom made her 100x more disorganized and she only responded to 1 of my emails the whole semester. Exams are easy and does not grade assignments harshly. Nice professor, but lectures were dry and so disorganized. Cancels class often.
This professor is so nice. I went to her office hours one day and we just started talking about life after I was freaking out to her about our upcoming exam which she helped me calm down for and she is so amazing. The class itself is so easy and she makes it extremely manageable, definitely take her.
Pfoersch is an amazing professor her lectures are interesting and easy to follow. I highly recommend taking her class. She gives out very little work, except for 4 unit tests throughout the semester. as long as you go to class, take notes and participate this class is an easy A. She also gives you plenty of opportunities to get extra credit
I'm not good with materials that are purely facts, I'm more of a math and chem kind of person which explains the grade I got in this class. But Pfoertsch is a sweetheart and is very kind. Her lectures are always interesting because we do not solely focus on the content of the class. I wholeheartedly recommend her class.
Shes a good professor, class consisted of 3 in-class exams, 8 discussion questions, and a 5-7 page paper at the end. You watch a lot of documentaries, but lectures are kind of boring. Relatively easy class, take her.
She goes at a slow pace which is nice, and she loves elaborating on things which is good too. She cares about students opinions. You have 4 exams ONLY, no HW, and final exam isn't cumulative. If you pay attention in class, take notes and study, I promise you'll do fine. I didn't study one time and got a B on the exam, second one was a A. Taker her!
Class is based on exams no homework to boost grade Lecture is boring and attendance mandatory Not an easy A class
class was boring but the tests were difficult attendance was mandatory no homework to boost grade not the best option
This class was extremely boring, all she did was read off PowerPoints , theres about 4 quizzes and thats it, no extra work to boost your grade which sucks because the quiz are multiple choice and if you get it wrong, you get it wrong. Try to avoid
Shes a nice person but not a very considerate professor !! certainly not an easy A
She's nice but you are only graded on 4 tests + attendance. She is late for every class and more than once has canceled class AFTER it already started. We would be waiting for the professor to come and get an email 5-15 mins after the start time that she wasn't showing up. Very unprofessional. Lectures do not help for exams, only the textbook.
3 tests, including final (noncumulative), 9 discussion posts, ATTENDANCE, and extra credit. Cancels class fairly often. Lectures are boring and long and I personally would learn by reading the textbook myself. Attendance makes or breaks ppls grades. Ask about extra credit - most ppl don't know about it. Tests are more based on book, not lecture.
She's a very nice professor, but her lectures are really boring and are literally copy and pasted from the required textbook. She's practically reading to you. If attendance wasn't required, I wouldn't show up. Also, you literally can't access her outside of class. She reads your emails, but won't respond so you have to speak to her in person.
4 Tests, last one is online, opportunities for extra credit and she will tell you about it in class. She's adds stories to what we talk about in lectures which keeps it interesting.
She is kind of boring but the class is easy as long as you study for the exams. She is understanding and kind if there is an issue. There are 4 tests and some extra credit. Her slides are copied and pasted from the book. Overall she's a good professor if you are looking for an easy class.
Clear grading criteria.
Interacts with the class instead of just talking at us. powerpoints are helpful at times. Extra credit is just going to school events and their is also rarely homework. Amazing teacher and relatively easy class.
For an intro class, Prof Pfoertsch was a great professor! Her tests were all multiple choice and she provides many resources such as flashcards and study guides to set her students up for success. She also provides extra credit opportunities. I highly recommend her for SOCI101.
Lots of reading in this class but she goes over it all in the lecture power points in class. Class is nice with discussion not just reading off the slides. She has a small accent but is super nice and caring. Her tests were easy if you took notes in class for her lectures and studying some. Take her!!!
best thing abt the class wa
There are 3 exams which she provides study guides for and are easy. Each chapter you watch a film - they are on the exams so pay attention. There is one paper with multiple different topics to choose from. Strict attendance. Extra credit is offered. Overall, easy class if you just show up. She reads off notes but does like to engage in conversation
Avoid this teacher if possible. Class is not hard but she will cancels class all the time. All papers were graded on last 2 days of semester. Reads directly from the book word for word, does not offer any valuble insight. Class will often be silent because of the way she lectures. Will not give feedback on grades either.
She's super sweet and funny. Really just reads the slides and lectures, but if you listen its an easy A. She provides study guides and it's usually all multiple choice. She is very understanding and if you can't go to class, you just need to tell her. She does have an accent, but she's not hard to understand. Overall nice funny older lady
Overall she's a great professor who makes her lectures very simple. We have a textbook, but she gives you an online version you don't have to pay for. My only issue is that she doesn't provide feedback on concept checks. If you read the textbook and review the PowerPoint slides, you will be successful in that class.
All you have to do is show up for attendance and do the assignments:1 paper that is due at the end of the semester along with 3 exams and a few discussions. The discussions have no criteria so she can grade it however she wants and there's not much you can do. She also isn't very technical with blackboard so grades aren't updated regularly.
The professor is nice and engaging, but her lectures can be dull. However, the multiple-choice exams are manageable if you use the textbook and class resources like flashcards. Unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for exam prep!
super sweet prof! accent can be hard to understand at times. mostly reads off the slides and lectures, but gets us to participate. extra credit is offered, not very tech savvy so grades aren't updated very often.
She's a super sweet professor, very funny too! Her class is test-heavy, but there are discussions on BlackBoard are a few points each. She also discusses slides during lectures which are uploaded to BB, and everything that is on these slides are on the tests. Tests are very easy, + provides a vocabulary list of everything that will be on the test.
class is test heavy, with a few discussions posted on blackboard. posts study guides and the textbook on blackboard. however, she takes forever to grade things, i have an assignment from february that she hasn't graded as of writing this. very sweet and tries to get the class engaged but can go on about her home life sometimes.
sweet, funny professor but has no set structure to things and moves on her own time based on how she feels. decent to take if you prefer nice professors, even if not too engaging to get the credit, over difficult/unpleasant professors, even if the content is interesting. discussion and exam questions come from textbook so try to skim read at least.
She is a nice professor, but emphasizes the importance of being to class on time while being late herself every class one time being 10 minutes late for test day. test average was a C- for a level 100 class and blames it on our study methods instead of some self reflection, grades things really late. Exams are harder than they should for this class
Non sensical lectures, last class she talked about the holy roman empire, buffalo bill, tupperware, and balogna. A whole semester in and I still dont know what social problems are. She assigned a paper due in 9 days with no instructions other than submit that shit.
I love her she's so cute. Definitely the easiest sociology class if you're just trying to get the credit. Barely any assignments, basically only grades are the tests. No cumulative final. She's so funny and sweet and talks a lot during lectures, but not content heavy.
I liked Professor P. She's nice, funny, and deaf in one ear so speak loud lol. She grades very late though, only grading the test immediately. We had 9 discussion posts(very easy), two in-person exams with EIGHTY + questions🙄, and one online test(the final). The final isn't cumulative tho so that's a plus, I guess. I'd take her again.
