If you aren't good at math, don't take this instructor--she's harsh, a hard grader, and unhelpful. I did MUCH better with Tina Roldan--Stewart gave me a D, but I got a B in Roldan's class!
If you do all the homework (which isn't turned in) and take good class notes, you can do well in this class. I don't consider myself good in math, but got an A in Pre-Calc and trig. I worked very hard for it! The hardest part: you can't use note cards for formulas on the tests, lots of memory.
This is an online course. This teacher does not use the book. Instead she teaches from her own cryptic notes that you are left to figure out on your own. You don't know that she doesn't teach from the book until after your money is gone and non-refundable. She also appears condescending to me.
I failed 126 the first time and had to take it over with Ms. stewart and she was and very good teacher. If you are not good with online classes then this is not the class for you and she will tell you that too. I passed the class with a very high B and I am going to take her again for 127.
Dr. Stewart is a very hard teacher but knows her stuff if you're ready for a work-out she's the teacher and if you want a harder work-out take her on-line.If you have bad habits in math she'll fix that, because you have to work out the problems just like she does on her notes or else she takes points away.I wish you lots of luck. peace
Stewart knows her subject and is willing to make sure you understand if you ask for help. Expect to do the homework (which isn't turned in). The practice will help you learn. Notes are available on WebCT. You can save cost of a textbook, she doesn't require one to be purchased. If you are interested in really learning math, take her class.
Like many have said, Stewart knows her stuff... but she is tough. You have to do the work HER WAY or you get major points marked off.
Well versed in her subject matter, this prof does NOT require purchase of a text. Be able to access WebCT as that's where the text, practice problems and quizzes are. If you are prepared to do the practice, ask questions in class and pay attention, you might actually learn something. I would take her again if she taught higher level courses.
Tough class but ms. stewarts notes are good. If you put in the time you'll do good.
This teacher has her own online book, so you don't have to waste any money on a 5 lb book. Don't challenge any of her assignments no matter how immature they are- she really gets pissy. Otherwise her book is fairly easy to follow.
Explains the concepts well.
shes the best professor Ive ever had hands down. Shes all about teaching and if youre wanting to learn go with her. The classes are interesting dynamic and she gives you lots of opport. to ask questions and learn, she breaks down the subjects easily and shows u lots of techniques on how to work it. Her book is easy and straigh-forward, 350 not enuf
Online class using professor's notes only-no books. If this method works for you, you will like this class. Plenty of potential extra credit points possible. Also offers online with classroom instruction simultaneously if you prefer(but you don't need to come to class if online instruction is sufficient for you.)
This was an online course over summer. I had to drop because it was way too much info to cover in 6 weeks. Professor does not make you buy the book, which saves you $100, but only gives you her lecture notes on line to learn from. Which is not very much. Don't take course unless you have previous knowledge of precalc or someone that can help you.
Lets face it math isnt that easy. If you have an easy math professor your probably not learning much. Saves you the money by having an on line book. Explains concepts well and is very bright.
This is the worst instructor I have ever had. Just because you know math doesn't mean you can teach it. You are only allowed to solve problems her way so the right answer isn't really what seems to matter -unless you do it the same exact way she does it in her less than explanatory handouts. Also not open to discussion.
Where are these positive remarks coming from? Sounds like Stewart wrote them herself. I tok an online class and it was the worst online experience ever. Take MAT 126,127 with Jack Sheffield at UNLV. Avoid bad high school teachers pretenting to be experts.
I love math and this was the best math teacher I ever had.
Very hard class the teacher was no help at all,she is a terrible teacher. You need to work the problems just like she does on her on-line notes if you don't you get no credit even if your answer is right. If you need to take this class don't take it on-line or with her she will make your life not good. You will not have fun.
I am terrible at math, but Dr. Stewart helped me learn and feel confident that I could do it. She makes calculus easy with the examples on WebCT and the way she writes theorums in plain English. I had a C in someone else's class before I transferred to her class. I ended up getting an A! I definitely recommend her if you want to learn calculus.
Why is everyone complaining? She just doesn't "hold your hand" during the class. She expects you to do the work, this isn't high school anymore kids. She is there to answer your questions... if you ask them. There is no spoon feeding here! I thought she was a great teacher, I could work ahead, which was nice with my schedule.
Dr. Stewart is a wonderful teacher! Her notes are clear, she has reasonable expectations, and she is far more understanding than many professors. I'll be taking as many classes as I can with her.
This class is ridiculous. Actually just the teacher. She is no help. If you ask for help, she treats you like you are stupid and leaves you in the dust to figure it out on your own. DO NOT TAKE DR. STEWART!!!! If you wan't to save yourself any trouble, trust me. She is horrible!
Do not take Professor Stewart. She has a tendency to only sign in online (maybe) once a week and won't email you back until AFTER the assignment has closed. Lecture notes are horrible and unclear, but the homework and tests are simple.
This professor is very condescending to her students, and don't count on her helping you at all if you have trouble understanding the concepts. That said, if you're good at understanding things just from text, and you care about your grade at all, this is an easy A. Most assignments you can take until you get a 100,& tests are easy if you prepare.
I took the online class and got an A. The online class is very well organized, you have several chances do all quizes and tasks. Her class is based on lecture notes, not the text book, and some of the sections in her notes could be a little more detailed, but overall a great class.
This online class is easy but alot of work. You can do everything except the tests unl x's. Only thing is shes not helpful, only knows how to do math 1 way, cant break it down or explain her notes. She insulted MY intelligence and accused me of being lazy but obviously Im not so stupid/lazy w/ 99.5%. Overall notes are clear, just dont ask any ?'s
Online class is easy. Her notes are very clear and the tests and quizes are simple, and there's no textbook to buy!
i dont like her.most of her comments have an air of arrogance and superiority.she gives extra credit for finding errors in her teaching materials - but she has no tolerance for anyone else making mistakes-what does that say?
Only do little work but she is difficult to talk to.
I took the class in Fall 2007. She writes her own lecture materials. Her materials were clear and I only referenced the text a few times. She provided clarification for a couple of questions. Be focused and don't waiting to the last moment on homework assignments. If you do the homework and study the materials, the tests are not an issue.
Please don't take this instructor! She is so rude and has an attitude and I don't LIKE her! The class is somewhat easy but she is very unclear what she's focusing on. Plus, too much materials to read online, like 10-page syllabus and instructions on how to take quizzes and tests I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU TO TAKE OTHER INSTUCTORS THAN HER!!!!!!
OMG! This teacher sucks so bad. She is hard to talk too and mean!! She is straight out of a cold war movie. Do not take this teacher!!! Please for you own good!!
i took her online class and homework assignments weren't hard because you could redo it as many times to get a good grade and quizzes were the same. and tests weren't too bad after all the practice. every time I emailed her she was really nice & helpful. i passed with an A so it shouldn't be too bad.
She is very rude, and makes you feel like if you are stuped. She is not helpful at all, and if English is your second language, she is even worse. AVOID her.
Took this class online Fall '08. Does not use the textbook, but goes by her own lecture notes which are very clear. Do everything exactly like the examples in lectures, and you will easily get an A, because you can take the homework (extasks) and quizzes unlimited times before the deadline. Would absolutely take a math class by this teacher again.
I took her online class and she is ridiculous! She doesn't help at all and refuses to meet with students to help them. She makes you feel like you are dumb. I would never ever take a class with her again.
I took her online class and found it to be quite awesome! People need to understand what they are getting into before signing up for distance ed. You MUST be self motivated if you want to succeed in ANY online class, especially math! Extasks are due twice a week. Give her enough time before something is due and she answers.
Unless - don't ever bother. Will not work with the students.
...hmm well it was nice
I took Dr. S online for 126&127! The homework is easy. It'd be hard to not get 100% on the assignments as you can work them as many times as you want. Gives you study guides with problems and answers before each exam. If you complete those you'll have no problem with the test. Take her if you're comfortable with online classes!
Obviously, the bad comments are from people who needed classroom work for math. Online math is NOT for everyone. She clearly states that in her syllabus. For people who can learn on their own, she is a great teacher. She responds quickly to emails and clarifies on questions.
I GOT TO PASS AN EASY CLASS WITHOUT STRUGGLES.
A cocky professor. For the final she said study the 3 major quiz's & you'll b fine. Come finals, there was nothing of the sort. She took nothing from them, but mixed concepts to create whole new problems I had never seen before. But of course to her it is easy cuz shes pro. EXTREMELY BOTHERSOME!!!I would personally NOT recommend her.
I love this class. Although this class was online, I consider that this instructor help to all her student when they are struggles for learning.
I took her class online & it was not as hard as I thought it would be. I hate math & I actually understood more than I ever did than when I had a class on campus. Everything on the test is everything on her study guide for each test. If you know how to do all the examples she teaches then you are good to go! I would take another class w/ her again!
I took her online class. Don't look at her instructor lecture notes. They're contradictory to the HWK and confusing. You get enough examples in the HWK and textbook. Her study guide says know the instructor notes, but I did terrible on tests studying them and did fine (A & B) on tests without them. She grades tests very strictly. Just study HWK.
Online: Be prepared to do a lot of work for this class. Had to follow the text and examples in order to understand the homework and had to study her lecture notes in order to pass the tests. Work on the tests must be shown EXACTLY how she has it in her notes! Homework twice a week, 3 proctored tests, good luck.
There were only 3 tests worth 80% of your final grade and they did not reflect the quizzes. I did not like this professor. I did not feel she created tests with problems like the homework. Her class was the only one I did not get an A in that semester.
Only 3 tests worth 80%, not 50%, but 80%, of your final grade. This professor is more concerned about how she is perceived rather than the students needs.I did not feel she created enough tests nor gave any credit for the hours and hours of homework. Demotivates you for sure. Do not take! Online site was an issue too, down way too much!No text book
Do not take any online math classes as you will spend 15-20 hours a week with a poorly designed website that CSN uses for their math classes. Probably a better professor in a classroom setting, online so so. Tests determine your grade period, 80%. Felt like a child in way materials were presented. You have to do this, then that...not adult like.
DO NOT TAKE. Her notes suck and when you ask her for help she looks at you like you are dumb. Tests are worth 80%!!! You will spend so much time on quizzes and homework. I aced every quiz and did every homework. I failed her class. Get an in-class setting, but if you have to get an online class, do not pick this professor.
I took her for the 126 and I asked her to take me on for the 127. She's not that bad. I've never had any problems with her. I've always done my homework and went to every exam. She answers to your emails if you have any questions. She's been very good to me overall. I guess it's on a case by case situation. I'll take her for 127 again.
I enjoyed this class online. I will be taking her 127 as well. It's tough, but to be expected. She's no nonsense, but very helpful. With the practice exams she provides, the tests are a piece of cake.
Took online class. HW was simple and fairly straight-forward. Gives quite a bit of notes, example problems, and video lectures. HW was 25% of grade and the 3 tests were the rest. For me, test 2 was a bear, but 1 and 3 were easy. She gives a nice review sheet before every test, do the problems on it and you'll do fine on the test.
This professor is excellent, hands-down. While the course is extremely tough, especially since it is a 6-week course, I gave an easy rating for the professor because she takes her time to help students become successful in the subject, as long as they're willing to work hard. She wants all of us to succeed.
This professor is actually very easy to follow. I took her online and basically you do hw twice a week online which you can redo to get 100. So hw=A.Then exams, there are 3. DO KNOWLEDGE CHECKS! You will be set. I worked two jobs and managed to get a B. Got an 89 on first exam, 61 on 2nd (studied for 1hr) and 87 on 3rd. Study for 3 days=success!
The class was not easy. There is homework twice a week that can be done until you get 100 and 3 tests. The tests are 75% of your grade. YOU MUST STUDY!!!! I didn't study until before my last test. I got a low C and a high D for my first and 2nd test respectively. But when I studied for my 3rd test, I got an 89 so I repeat: STUDY STUDY STUDY!!!!
I took this class online, and it wasn't the easiest and best idea. Math 126 is something you should take in class so if you had any questions about the section, you'd get an answer right away ! Although Ingrid Stewart was good with reopening closed assignments so you can review, she would never be forgiving when it comes to late assignments.
I don't understand how her ratings aren't sky-high. She is an amazing online teacher. She gives a study guide before every exam, so if you go through that a couple times before tests, you'll do great. I got an A on every exam.
Worst math professor on the planet. Not at all helpful. She does not respond to emails. She does not teach. Took this class online and the examples she gives are nothing like the practice homework questions. No explanation on difficult concepts. Stay away, I ended up going to different prof for help cos she will not respond to question. The ratings are true, she is as bad as they say.
If you know your math and passed the courses up to this, you will do fine. The class itself online is very easy with little homework, but I don't much like the professor. She isn't very helpful and suggests students teach themselves instead of helping them.
In all the classes I have ever had, I have never had an instructor tell you NOT to seek help from school resources. She discourages tutors and math lab help. She took down the online support that would show step by step problems. On the exams if you show work different than the confusing pages of instructions she posts they will be wrong. Rude too!
Im not a math savy person and I did fine. Its not easy, not by a long shot. But if you just do the homework and study the practice test, youll do fine. The practice tests are EXACTLY like the real tests. Shes not hard, the material is hard. Just do all the problems. ALL OF THEM! If I can get a B, anyone can pass, no problem
I love math and I have always received near perfect scores in all my college math courses. I struggled hard for my A in this course. The professor is rude and doesn't help. I asked why she took 6 points off my test even though my answer was right and she laughed. She also told me that engineers know nothing about math. Save yourself the tears.
Was a huge mistake to take her class.
Class was too easy. Shes flexible with due dates and allows you to repeat homework to get a perfect score. This class should be a gpa booster.
Absolutely horrible. Her advice is "to torture you brain" until you understand. That's a horrendous teaching style. 15-25 hours a week on homework that does nothing to help your grade. I chose online b/c I couldn't go to campus, yet she makes us go to campus to take 3 tests. Horrible experience.
Everything she does is scripted. The examples are lacking clarity. There is very little visual support on the content. Her tests are all written exams and you must show all of your work in detail or you will not receive credit. She even gives you the wrong directions to take your test. You will not pass unless you know all of the formulas by heart.
The instructor responded within 24 hrs just like she said she would in her syllabus. That's fine with me. She is direct and very clear on what she expects. I will absolutely take a class with her again.
Great prof. The way her lecture notes are written makes the math easy to understand. I love math but this math class has to be my favorite. Don't think that you can just pick the answers because that sure is not the case. You have to study and do the work. Great prof always answers question.
Very good instructor. Clear, Helpful... learning a lot! Very good experience. Tests are worth a lot, but the course is set for success and learning to make it a challenge.
Online math is NOT for everyone. Dr. S. clearly states that in her syllabus. You need to be able to learn on your own. She responds quickly to emails and answers every question.
Take the online course if you're comfortable with studying on your own! I took Dr. S online for 126 and now for 127! The homework is easy. It'd be hard to not get 100% on the assignments as you can work them as many times as you want. Gives you knowledge checks with problems and answers before each exam.
If you want to pass the class, you have to do the work. No way around it.
The concepts were difficult to grasp, but her explanations made it possible for anyone to understand it. I've had friends who took this online through a different teacher and they said it was horrible. If you do plan on taking it online, for sure get Dr. Stewart.
I failed 126 the first time and then took it over with Ms. Stewart and she was and very good teacher. If you are not good with online classes then this is not the class for you and she will tell you that too. I passed the class with a very high B and I am going to take her again for 127.
Dr. Stewart is a wonderful teacher! Her notes are clear, she has reasonable expectations, and she is far more understanding than many professors. I'll be taking as many classes as I can with her.
I had a great experience with Dr. Stewart's online Math 126 class. The assignments were a great practice for the exams and the notes and examples were clear and helpful. I have not taken a math class since college many, many years ago. I worked very hard and accomplished my “A” grade. It was a pleasure to be in this class, however brief it was.
I admit,I was nervous from some of the reviews. However, she is a great online professor! If you do the homework and knowledge checks, there's no way to get a bad grade.I only wish there was a little more option for test dates. Not a big deal unless you get sick. Her notes and examples are super clear. I will be taking her for 127!
Thank you Dr. Stewart for the comprehendible math lessons (e.g. no need for a graphing calculator), unhesitation to answer my questions and for faxing my test results, have a good year!
I do really appreciate all the help I get from Dr. Stewart. She also responds quickly to my emails. I actually enjoy this 6-week summer course.
She stripped down the online program to the bare functions. The website has so much potential with the Help me solve feature and video demonstrations. She stripped it all away and created all her own questions. She may be great in person but online she just took something helpful and made it a nightmare.
Hmmm, our course had all the MML features available. We had "Help Me Solve This", "Show an Example", "Videos", "Animations", "Ask the Professor". You name it we had it. Thank you so much for all the help and that you didn't give up encouraging us to ask questions. Thank you for being available to answer our questions.
I was nervous about this class because I haven't taken a math class in 13 yrs. But Dr. Stewart's notes and the way she set up her online course made the material easy to understand.
I really enjoyed taking Dr. Stewart's class! She is so thorough with her notes and always willing to help. The set up of the online course was perfect with a lot of helpful features. I will definitely recommend her to other students who may be interested.
I am doing well in the course due to Dr. Stewarts help, encouragement and overall her obvious willingness to do whatever it takes to help out and ensure her students learn. Math was a tough subject for me in high school and have worked very hard the last four semesters to love and excel in Math with the help of my professors.
Ingrid Stewart's online math classes are every students dream. They are in depth, and intuitive; meaning in her lecture notes she knows what students struggle with in math and lays it out before you explaining the step-by-step process in how she got the answer. She is easy to communicate with through email, she's quick and eager to help.
The test are easy because she gives you study guides that will help you on the test.
Professor Ingrid is amazing. I took this class online and if you ever have a question about something, this class is through MyMathLab so you can directly ask about the specific questions. Professor Stewart is very quick about responding and urged students to ask as many questions as possible. She comes across as very sweet and knows her math!
I took her online course so I didn't have much interaction with her, but she did answer emails and posted stuff on the discussion board. This class is a bit tough if you're not into math it requires you to read the text book and do a couple practice problems for homework. We only had 3 proctored tests and the test reviews were extremely helpful.
Professor Stewart is very helpful. I took this class online, so I didn't have much interaction with her, but when I did have questions, she responded to me in 24 hours or less. Homework and test reviews are online. You only have to drive to a CSN campus 3 times a semester to take the tests.
Dr. Stewart is a fantastic teacher. She is ready to help you whenever you need it, and even if you don't need it she would help you. I took the class online, but she was very quick to respond. The quizzes and HW assignments you can take unlimited times, and there are 3 exams. Would recommend her to anyone who hates math.
I just wanted to say thank you very much for a great semester! I have learned so much and without the instructor's help, it would have been impossible.
It was a pleasure to have been in Dr. Stewart's class. She was so helpful and made herself readily available to her students.
Great class. Able to take pre-test as many times as needed.
I took Stewart for 126 and 127 and I highly recommend her. Although it is online, her notes are so organized and clear. Did I mention how great her notes are? AMAZING notes full of great examples. You can take the practice tests as much as you like and the actual tests are just like them. So glad you can take tests at all campuses now! Great course
Prof. Stewart is great. I took her class online through MyMathLab (she doesn't use CANVAS at all for the course). She was always interacting with the class and doing her best to be helpful. The material for this class was really easy, but that doesn't mean it necessarily would be for everyone. If you are alright with math and logic, you'll do well.
Like all math courses, this material requires a lot of time and effort to get. However, Prof. Stewart makes this a lot easier with her clear and concise notes. If you study her notes carefully and do the homework regularly, the tests should go fine. The MyMathLab fee includes an online book, but I didn't really need it.
Great online class. I'm not great at math but the flow of this class makes it easy. Do your hw and pretests and you will have no problem passing this course. Dr. Stewart is clear and fair with what she expects from her students.
I was not looking forward to this math course prior to enrolling in it, it had been over ten years since I had taken math. However, the instructor is incredibly helpful, her notes are crystal clear, and she uses relevant examples.
Take someone else honestly.
Honestly, she is a great professor; gives you feedback when you need it and she is always there to help. I personally did not like taking math online. If math isn't your best subject, I highly recommend you to not take math online.
She has a very set lesson plan, is always reminding about tests and test reviews. There isn't a ton of homework and only two tests. I would definitely take her again. Easy math class, no textbook needed
I absolutely hate math and I passed this course with an A. If you are willing to do the work and are open to learning the materials she makes it super easy, almost impossible to not pass the course. She lets you take the practice tests as many times as you want to be prepared for the proctored tests.
This class is pretty hard. She will be willing to help if needed but i didn't ask which cost me my grade. I recommend you use her instructor notes, they help ALOT. homeworks are easy, tests are hard and test reviews count as a grade so make sure you do them! Great teacher would recommend to others.
Best math class I have taken, she gives you all the information you need. if you practice and put time in to it you will do fine. She let you take test reviews that count as quizes for a week before the exam, the higher score will count. If you practice as she recommended at least once a day you will do excellent in the exam. TAKE HER CLASS!!
I appreciate that the instructor always answered my emails in a well timed manner and the notes she provided were key to my understanding of statistics this semester.
This is by far the best math class I have ever taken. The instructor notes made the material easy to understand and learn. I have never been a math person, but this class has made me feel like I can easily learn math with the right teacher.
I was full of questions at the beginning but found my way and really appreciated the instructor's speedy responses to everything! Her course was very well organized and made me very confident in the material.
Professor Ingrid Stewart is an amazing teacher! I absolutely loved her class layout on the pearson website. She assists students with math problems via email and answers promptly. There are practices to work on but there are lecture notes prior to the practices. Its mostly working at your own pace but there are due dates. Great professor overall!
She has her own outlines for the book, but then her outlines make the work so much more complicated than it needs to be. At one point she defended herself saying "This will help with a future Stat class." Except I'm not taking any future math classes, let alone Statistics. If you're not good at math, skip her.
I love this class! I am horrible at math, and took this same class at UNLV and failed miserably. Mrs. Stewart is always available through email and the homework is straight forward, and tests are EXACTLY like the given test reviews. This class has made me enjoy math. I wish every class was like this! :-)
Dr. Stewart is an excellent professor! I took my first online class with her. I do not care for math very much but she made herself very accessible and makes it very easy to asks questions. The material is fairly easy if you study. She practically spells it out for you, and all 3 tests are almost exactly the same as your online practice quizzes.
This was a very organized & consistent class, both in the material & the program set-up. The instructor was super in helping & encouraging!
The instructor made the semester of math a great experience. I've struggled with all my math classes and needed tutoring or extra help but she set up and explained everything to where I learned and understood it by myself and passed with the best grade yet in a math class.
6 week summer semesters are tough. The instructor is organized and tries hard to please everyone. I didn't like that she catered to procrastinators and opened up the first eleven homework assignments after their due date. I did my work on time and they should have too.
Buy MathLab code. Her syllabus scared me at first b/c it's an online summer MATH class. Stated it would be heavy work. Very do-able and clear! Math120 is a lot of relatable, real life math. She will respond to you within a day or two. MyMathLab is phenomenal with examples and videos. Review exams are just like regular exams, you'll be prepared!
Take professor Stewart's online class if at all possible! I took it over summer, and even with the numerous homework assignments (it is math after all...) it never felt overwhelming. Her tests come DIRECTLY from the practice exams , and is very quick to respond to you if you have any questions, so there is NO reason you shouldn't pass!!
Easy class. Taken this class with another professor before, but this one sets the course up for you to pass easily with an A. Not too much homework, 3 quizzes and 3 tests. The quizzes are at home, tests are proctored, quizzes (infinite attempts) have almost the same questions as the tests. She gives you a procrastination-proof calendar. Take her.
I really enjoyed Dr. Stewart's class and this was by far one of the best experiences in math I've ever had. I wish I had her as an teacher 10 years ago; I'm actually excited about math now which makes all the difference in the world when learning.
Dr. Stewart was a fantastic online teacher and the class was very easy to understand because of the notes she gave us. I just scored a 30/31 on the exam. Just wanted to let everyone know i very much enjoyed the class.
This class was honestly awful. I truly regret wasting my time and money on this professor. She sets you up to fail if you are not amazing at math. The tests are worth 70% of your grade, homework and quizzes are only another 15% each. So the only thing that matters is if you pass the test. No videos either, just a lot of wordy notes and wordy emails
The course was awesome, but then I like to study on my own. The instructor's lecture notes were great. How else are you going to learn the material? We were also given instructions on where to find videos provided by the author of the textbook as well as videos on youtube.
I appreciate the instructor taking the time in the beginning to be up front about the class and my spare time. I would highly recommend her to anyone else who needs to take math online.
This is such an easy online class. The tests are weighted really heavy but she gives you a lot of time to study and her notes are clear and easy to understand.
The class is easy. Do the work, and assignments by the soft due date. Do the practices quizzes before the actual tests, and you'll pass the tests. She's very easy to reach, obviously cares about her students, and ask you to ask her anytime you need help. There is no way you wont be able to pass this course.
She gives you all of the material you would need to pass the class. Even though mine was online, I did better than I did in some other inperson math classes. She has several grades so it is easier to stay afloat. If you are not the best at math, I recommend you take this class.
First let me start off by saying I never rate any professor but Dr. Stewart was awesome so its a must. I took the class online. Be prepared for LOTS of homework, 3 quizzes (keeps the best grade can take it unlimited amount of times), 3 test. If you put in the work youll get a good grade. Great professor, caring, & helpful!
I hate Math & ussually I'll only gets B's, but with this professor I received an A. I took an online course this SPRING. Has lots of homework, so follow the Soft Due Dates to avoid piles of homework, has 3 quizzes and 3 EASY EXAMS. I said EASY EXAMS because the exam have the exact problems on the quizzes. Take quizzes multiple times to ace exams!!!
There are 3 tests that you have to take on campus. 3 tests that you can take at home.
I dropped her class the second I saw her syllabus. Three tests to be taken at the school, I take online classes for a reason. I do not have time to continually run to the testing room. Also no notes for tests, I am not good at math and would really need notes. Honestly not a great teacher if you are not good at math.
This is the only professor in my entire academic career that Ive disliked on both a professional and personal level. I had fantastic grades the entire semester. She chose to fail me on my last test after a misunderstanding with a calculator and going back on a written agreement to let me retest. I still passed and shes still horrible.
I just finished this class and I got an A. I took the online course . Read the lecture notes, watch the videos and read the textbook. You still will have alot of work to do, it is math 124. Three quizes online and three tests taken at CSN testing center. This class was awesome.
3 Exams on campus, unlimited retries on quizzes and homework online. If this is your first online class, do not procrastinate and do the HW. It is very easy to get left behind -- each lesson builds off the last. The lectures are explained well, along with the videos. Quizzes are replicas of the exam. Do everything, pace yourself and you will pass.
I do not like math and waited to the very end of my degree to take math 120. Professor Stewart's class was perfectly paced. MyMathLab is a great tool. You work at your own pace as long as you meet the deadline. You will have no problem acing this course if you just do the work.
make sure to do the opportunities given to you to pass exams and quizzes. its unlimited. I just didn't like the fact that all there were 24 chapters worth of homework and it only counted as 5%. The rest were for exams and quizzes. Everything is also self taught. But she does answer questions in an efficient manner if needed.
If you don't pass a quiz you cannot continue the course!
Not sure if it's her intention, but she comes off extremely rude and insensitive at times. Do your work or you won't pass.
I took Dr. Stewart's online extended five credit Math 120 class. This class is a lot of work, but her lectures are amazing. Her tests are easy if you have read her lectures. I did not look at my textbook once! Everything you need is in her easy to read and understand lectures.
3 quizzes (unlimited attempts,) a lot of homework (unlimited attempts, given a whole month to do each section,) and 3 on-campus tests (proctored, however, they're a carbon copy of the quizzes with fewer questions.) Class uses Pearson MyLab. Very straightforward class with a lot of work but 100% passable. Dr. Stewart is very responsive, too.
Dr. Stewart is the best math professor I ever had in College. Her lecture notes are clear and there are no surprises. Easy A if you do well on the practices, quizzes, and the final exam. Practices and Quizzes are unlimited so you can keep on taking it until you're satisfied with your score. The final exam can only be taken once.
she makes it very clear on what is expected. Her lectures/lessons are awesome, she makes her own note pages vs. just telling you to read the book. She makes it easy to understand and as long as you stay up to speed on assignments and dont fall behind in homework you will get an A.
This was a fun class. I really enjoyed her literature. I learnt a lot usefully maths. Thank you!
I just finished the final exam and having unlimited tries with the quizzes really helped perfecting the final exam. I was expecting the worst from this class since I have anxiety with math. However, this class helped me become confident and that there is no reason to be afraid of math as long as I just keep on practicing the formulas and problems.
This was an awesome Math class:) I have learned a lot; specially the first two chapters are life time practical lessons.
shes just rude. thats all i think. dont take her. easy class but she is super rude when it comes to grading.
When it comes to math, she's great. However, she rules w/Third Reich authoritarianism. You may be like me (A student) & not think you'll ever find yourself in a sitch where you need help, but when the DRC had a PC problem during my test, she said I didn't need my accommodation & gave me F for test(therefore, the class). She's above the law @ CSN.
She's a fine instructor. Would've had an A but got 1 of the exam dates mixed up and received a 0. So don't miss any dates because she does not let you make anything up, no matter the circumstances (unless something serious obv). About 7 assignments due once a month (unlimited retakes), and then one quiz (5 retakes) and one exam a month(not proct).
Great teacher, great lectures, available to help her student. She is pretty straightforward with her grading. Overall, do the work, don't miss the exams and quizzes, then you would pass easily.
I just wanted to say that her class has been awesome! Her powerpoint notes and video lectures are clear and give great step by step instructions. Certain math concepts that made no sense to me last semester, such as the three variable systems, I understood much more through the materials and practice tasks she provided.
It was a great experience. Course was well-paced, easy to follow, had plenty of resources and instructor is always so responsive. I was a bit nervous about how much I forgot since high school Calculus 20 years ago and it ended up being much ado about nothing.
Dr. S. is a very nice teacher. I really liked her class, and she makes Calculus seems so easy. Even though this is an online class, I enjoyed it so much. She gave us many good feedbacks regarding our work. I appreciate it.
I learned a lot this semester in the class and I will continue to grow my math skills. Dr. S. was the best math instructor I have had at CSN. She was always there whenever we needed questions answered and provided great feedback.
The professor is great. She is also kind. I became very sick after my COVID shot and she let me make up the test after I showed her my ER report.
The class structure is intuitive. The LMS is also FREE, which is nice. The 4 exams themselves are fine, but she grades you on your work, not your answers. She is STRICT about the amount of work shown. There is no partial credit for work shown, but there is a good chance she will mark you down for the work shown, even if you get the answer right.
This was by far my favorite class I have taken. Dr. Stewart is a great professor and is always giving updates about what is needed and expected. The learning material is easy to follow and the practices are helpful. She is always willing to help and responds quickly to questions.
I took her last semester and it makes my math teacher now makes me miss her so much. She cared about her students and was willing to compromise. She wants her students to pass! She will work with you if you have any questions and she usually gets back to you within 24 hours. I wish I could have her for all of my classes. Lots of work but worth it.
The material itself was pretty easy, I just hate the website she uses. She uses My Open Math instead of Canvas. It took me a while to figure it out. This class also is basically a teach yourself class. She posts youtube videos and you are supposed to figure it out on your own.
I learned a lot in this course. The instructor was a great cheerleader/instructor. She did an amazing job.
I was in Professor Stewart's Math 126, but it is actually a web remote course. You must sign up for a specific class time during which she explains the concepts in much detail. She is a wonderful lecturer and I learned a lot.
Professor Stewart was such a great teacher and I loved her class. Her step-by-step lectures were easy to understand, and I enjoyed the progression of Practice to Quiz to Exam. Repetition was key, and the embedded videos were a great addition. She helped me improve my math "game" tremendously.
I got a D on my first exam because she is a tough grader on work but I was able to bring my grade back up by listening to her feedback and studying harder for the next exams. Dr. S gives you unlimited attempts on the homework and 5 attempts on the quizzes. There are also work-a-problems where you have to show a lot of work and explain the process.
Dr. Stewart uses MyOpenMath and not Canvas. I was used to Canvas, but I learned how to use MyOpenMath very quickly. It is almost like Canvas. Just like Canvas it is free-of-charge.
Doesn’t answer all of our questions she tells us to look back at our notes. Some of the questions in quizzes/practice assignments aren’t even in the notes. Attitude. Lazy. Uses other peoples notes/videos and doesn’t teach us anything. Better off using outside sources. Uncaring and not understanding. Exams are way too hard.
Not the worst, but definitely not the best. Exams are proctored by Proctor U, and notes aren't allowed; they check everything. She is the best-reviewed math 124 professor here at CSN. I'd recommend tutoring to understand things. She also uses MyOpen MathLab. I'd recommend a professor who uses Aleks because it's programming and it shows step-by-step
I am sooo grateful that I ended up in Dr. Stewart's class. I enjoyed her lectures and love the way she structured the class. She always presented the information clearly and provided lots of resources which helped me so much. Given the chance, I'd love to take another class from her in the future!
I took Web-Remote Version Math124. She has zoom lectures twice a week, you don't have to talk or have camera on. She is an amazing lecturer! I loved the structure of class- the assignments are Practices w/ video examples for help, & multiple tries for each problem. Quizzes were the hardest, exams were based on quiz materials. Definitely recommend!!
Professor Stewart genuinely cares for her students and wants them to succeed. I was able to learn a lot from the lecture power points. There are 2 homework assignments each week, and after 3-4 weeks a quiz and exam. The quizzes are open note, but she does state that you have to be able to do it without for the exam which is heavily proctored.
I took Math 124 Online with Dr. Stewart. I've appreciated having her as my professor this semester. I struggle with math, and on top of that had a few loved ones die this semester. I don't think that I would've passed with any other professor. I can tell she genuinely cares and want her students to succeed.
Thank you for your kind words and for all of your help, Dr. Stewart. I really enjoyed your style of teaching and your class! I hope you have a great summer.
It has been a pleasure being in Dr. Stewart's class. There were some bumps in the road but I am elated that I stuck with the course. I appreciate her support and understanding. These attributes made a great difference in my completion of this course.
I am in Dr. Stewart's college algebra extended course. Dr. Stewart teaches the class in Zoom and she is great. She uses ProctorU for testing. It was scary at first, but she gave us a practice exam. I had to get a computer from the college because mine didn't work with ProctorU. I even get to keep it. ProctorU works with the CSN computer.
She is the best professor for teaching math. For someone who doesn't really understand math, she really made me enjoy it. I believe her practice test is what really helped. she replies to messages fast and is always willing to help. Her lectures are also really great, she explains things clearly and is very organized. I would recommend taking her.
nice lady, online class was quite easy. the online website she uses has nice features as well
The professor tries her best to provide decent amounts of information but the website she uses MyOpenMath is useless and hard to use. Also she gives "soft" and "Hard" that dont add up. I had my exam locked out because the ProctorU person took too long to open the exam and I missed an exam because It was my fault for accepting the reservation.
Dr. Stewart's lecture were easy to understand. All of her materials are free. She uses MyOpenMath and it is super easy to use and makes the course very organized. Her soft due dates kept me on track which I appreciated very much. Her exams are proctored, but we were able to choose either ProctorU (very convenient) or the testing center.
I was in Math 116 and the professor allowed as many opportunities as we wanted to complete homework and quizzes. The exams were taken at home on the honor system. It is pretty easy to earn an A in this class.
I took this class to meet a credit requirement. I ended up having an emergency and messaged her about it and she had no empathy, and she told me that I was not trying hard enough and did not take it seriously even after I messaged her about my situation. Definitely do not recommend taking this course, the professor does care about her students.
I would not take this class again with this teacher. Her lectures were difficult to understand and the videos she would link to certain problems on the homework did not correlate always. She started class 15 to 20 mins late every time.
This class I scored very well in, but does this mean I learned a lot this class? No, In fact I had to teach myself and have a tutor every step of the way to do well. I spent around 12 hours a week doing this online course alone, to score and do well. If you bomb a exam there goes a letter grade, no expections for exams if you miss tough luck.BEWARE
Professor Stewart was a great professor. The only thing I believe that could be slightly changed is the notes that she gives out. When reading her notes, I was confused and had a hard time understanding the topics, so I would resort to other college professors that had made YouTube videos on the topics. She is great if you are a full time worker!
Hw heavy! 5+ assignments due weekly. EX: Expect 1a.,1b. 2a... etc. Does not use canvas, uses Myopenmath which is confusing especially the grading since it doesn't show actual grade UNTIL "hard due date". Her teaching style was confusing, had to teach myself through every hw by watching videos. You need 75% to be able to unlock the next assignment.
The notes are pretty confusing to read. I suggest you should watch more instruction videos from other instructors on youtube.
The class was a lot of work, a lot of studying involved outside of class. Her notes were pretty organized and the whole set up was user friendly. 2 - 3 Homework assignments a week, 4 total exams. Barely scraped the surface of an A-. I would recommend this class!
Take her!! easy class
Way too much work, and she uses a website called myopenmath for all work. The website is very confusing. I had to teach myself most of the work we had to do. I mostly relied on youtube to teach to learn how to do the assignments. The only thing I liked was that the midterm and final were fairly easy. Exams are done at the testing center.
Never, never take this class we used "OPEN MATH" not CANVASS no notification from "open math" i failed this class because i have emergency and missed one major quiz and she won't even allowed me to retake it. She no sympathy she just laughed treat you like no others you gonna waste your time and money taking her class. Stay away in any her class!
Math124E. Provided plenty of resources to learn the material. She genuinely cares for the success of the students. Gives 5 attempts (grades best attempt) on quizzes and a 3 day window to complete them. Answers questions within 24hrs on weekdays. Haven't taken math in over 5 years and I'm so glad I took her class. Be ready to work a lot!
I've been terrible at math since high school. I took Dr. Stewart's course thinking I would fail, but her lectures, lecture notes, and examples were so clear that I was able to follow along. There is a lot to read and a lot of homework, but you get multiple tries and you can reference lecture notes and videos to help you get the right answer.
Professor Stewart's MATH124 class was challenging but rewarding. Her lectures and resources were clear, and she genuinely cared about student success. The online platform was tricky at times, but apps like unstuck AI and YouTube helped me stay on top of the workload. Overall, it was a worthwhile experience.
she doesn't use canvas. Has a lot of homework and of the final you have to go into the testing center.
Math is my worst subject and I still got an A-. Shes very fair with due dates and grading. 3 quizzes and 1 final. She does not accept late work so don't slack. She provides a study guide for the final. However the final had more than what the study guide consisted of. Still ended up with an A-, ill take it.
The work is somewhat easy if you pay attention and practice, but it's very demanding and exhausting. There is just so much you kind of forget older materials to learn new ones and might confuse you in the final exam. I felt like I taught myself more than anything with the YouTube videos she provided.
Tells you her class is more important than your family, friends, kids bc if you're taking her class you obviously want a better job. Does Not use canvas so it can be easy to miss assignments. Assignments and tests are easy but if you don't do good on finals you're cooked. Had to self teach myself everything
As a person who isn't great at math, this class wasn't bad at all. It just requires a lot of time to go over the slides, videos, practice the problems, and complete the assignments. Myopenmath is well organized, you just have to stay on top of due dates. Study the practice problems for the final and it'll be a breeze.
IF YOU WANNA BE INCONVENIENCED FOR TAKING THE FINAL TAKE HER CLASS. INSTEAD OF USING CANVAS LIKE ALL OTHER PROFESSORS SHE CHOOSES PROCTORU WHICH DIDNT WORK ON THE DAYBI SCHEDULED MY FINAL. I WAITED FOR OVER AN HOUR AND NO ONE FROM PROCTORU HELPED ME RESULTING IN ME NOT BEING ABLE TO COMPLETE MY EXAM. THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER.
Dr.Stewart's Math class is manageable if you stay on task. She uses ProctorU for all exams, SO BE PREPARED. Assignments are on MyOpenMath instead of Canvas,I found YouTube videos more helpful than her lectures, and while she provides learning materials they feel all over the place.SHE ALSO TAKES HER JOB VERY SERIOUSLY AND IS VERY STRICT WHEN GRADING
