Her tests seem to have nothing to do with the lecture, and she CONSTANTLY uses abbreviations and acronyms so you dont know what she's saying. The mean on the last few tests was around 60%. She likes to use D2L, but she doesn't use it proficiently.
Her tests were not related to the quizes, hw, that she assigned so her tests are horrible. I ended with a B in the class, but I had to work my butt off on my own. Her help is really pointless...Either way Acct. 202 sucks. She really is nice though.
The material can be complicated, but she packs it together so much that is becomes even more complicated. I knew how to do the homework and quizzes, but found myself guessing a lot on her exams. She is pretty nice, but extremely cynical.
Ulstad is a good teacher. If you're having a problem in class, go see her. She is always willing to help and explain more. She is very witty and fun. I didn't do great in class, but its fun.
This is a hard class, the homework is easy but seems tedious. If you dont get it, go to office hours that is the only time you will understand. Tests are HARD and worded VERY tricky. Make sure to read the book even if you dont do any work out of it because half the material on the test is book.
She fumbled with training aids all semester long, and had a very defensive attitude.
She now tops my list of the worst teacher at UWEC, she is extremely abrasive and has a huge chip on her shoulder. She will brag in class about how she will trick students on her exams.
her class was way too hard. the exams were next to impossible. we had to do worthless online quizzes all the time. you get the feeling she's looking down on you when you don't understand stuff(never mind that fact that she complicates everything).
You may not like her at first, but if you go to her office hours you will realize she is REALLY nice lady. She is very helpful as long as you put forth the effort. You will need to do the homework to understand and study hard for the tests. I would take her class again...very nice!
Wants the students to learn.
Ulstad is a very tough teacher, and although she likes to see students succeed, it is still a tough class given that half of the class was failing. If you want to do well in the class you better read the powerpoints, read the chapters, and go to her office hours. I worked my ass off and I got a B.
Ulstad can be very nice but also very ****y. Overall this was the most unenjoyable college class I've taken in my 3 years.
She is a nice lady, but this class is extremely hard. The tests are almost impossible to pass.
I really think Ulstad is a good teacher. She makes learning the material simple. Go to class, do the homework and participate in class and you'll pass with a good grade. She's always willing to help you if you aren't understanding the material. Way better Acct teacher than Selin!
Made things very easy to understand. She was always very helpful in and out of class too. Definately one of the best teachers I've ever had.
She talks down to you like a bunch of first graders in school and then tests you like graduate students. She expects you to teach yourself everything. Highly recommend not taking her.
SUCH a nice lady but what a horrible class. Let me just give this advice though - STICK WIH HER FOR 202, because I strayed away and got the worst teacher accounting teacher EVER - sheik - go to her for extra help - she offers so much of her time
She's a very nice lady. It's necessary to come to class everyday to understand what is going on. She doesn't like to lecture straight through the hour. There is a lot of group work which is nice.
What a horrible teacher and a witch on top of that.
Not a nice lady at all. Rude when you go to see her in her office. One of the worst classes I've ever taken- and she didn't make the material ANY better
A horrible teacher? A witch? No, definately not at all. If you say that about Ulstad you're probably just bitter because you aren't doing well in the class. Try studying or accepting that you won't get an A, because Ulstad does a lot better job of teaching than some professors.
I agree that she is not a witch. She makes some comments that could be confused as critical, but she is probably joking. I hate accounting and I actually made it through this class quite easily with a B. She understands that accounting is not everyone's favorite subject. I guess any advice would be to stay on her good side.
To be honest at first I heard never to take an accouting class with her. So i took selin for acct. 201. He was tough... and his tests took two hours. Then i took ulsted for 202 and her class was easier.. she explained things more.. and her tests were only 45 mins... taken in class... trust me take her!
Afetr taking Selin for 201, she was a cake-walk. She explains things well and so you can actually follow what she is saying. Tests are difficult, but do-able (45 min mult choice) and she offers Many other opportunitites for points. Class is purely point based so that makes it easier to get other things to raise your grade. Would Def. Reccommend.
I had Rundall for ACCT 201 and she was a pleasent surprize. She was organized and she actually TEACHES you. Some people don't like her because she can be blunt, but she tells you what she wants and when she wants it. Overall good teacher.
A lot easier than Selin, but there is a price. She's not that good of a teacher, she runs class like high school. She is very unclear, you never know when what is due or what exactly she wants you to do. She's nice if you get on her good side, otherwise she won't help you. Quizzes are short and easy, tests are short and multiple choice.
The difficulty of the class is the material, not her teaching. She comes off brash but is actually pretty funny. She pretends not to care but does. If you do the homework & class prep, you will pass the class, hands down. She likes students that work hard even if they get Ds on the exams.
the class is hard no doubt. However, she is a nice lady although she acts tough. I hope she reads this.. what a softy at heart you are! But anyways, you'll pass if you do the homework and class prep. I failed every exam and still got a C.
>>>Stay Away<<<Unorganized and your better off waiting a semester to take it with someone else.....
Ulstad is difficult but explains things throughly. She likes to scare you in the beginning but don't let that discourage you if you really want to take the class!
VERY unorganized. Can be rude. Thinks she is always right. Better off with another professor.
Ulstad treats every student like an Accounting major. If you don't want a professor that has a dry indirect humor, don't take her. She can be rude and admits it, too.
overall ulstad IS a very demanding prof..but which one isnt? its the class itself that requires work. she can be very intimidating but shes def at softy at heart. she cares about her students. honestly if you do the class prep and the homework your fine. if you go to class unprepared thats when you get into trouble. its like any class, just more wo
Ulstad is tough. But she's very helpful and wants you to really learn the material. If you follow the class prep and do the homework - you should be fine. Quizzes most weeks. She has a hard shell but is very nice on the inside. Ulstad just wants you to do well - and uses tough methods to get it done. I recommend her.
not helpful to all students! unclear explainations, unfair!
insulted the students when they asked questions
Good professor, but she expects a lot (but it's accounting). She has a tough shell ... but if you go and ask for help she is more than willing to help you. Go to class, but be prepared for class. Do the class prep and you will do fine. Quizzes almost every week.
She is a very good and interesting profesor, at first she appears hard and mean, but that is not the case at all she is one of the nicest ladies i have ever met, some people cant handle her sarcastic humor which is sad. She is especially nice when you visit her during her office hours. I would recommend taking her!!
Ulstad's alright. She comes off hard & tough at the beginning of the semester but overall she is a decent professor. If you do not know too much about Accounting it may seem more difficult because she expects you to know everything. Quizzes and exams may seem hard but they are manageable. The outlines of each chapter help, do the homework, & study!
Ulstad is great, she is a very good professor! She is great at explaining things and is very helpful. Getting an A is definatly possible if you're willing to put in the time. Do the study guides, read the book, do the homework, and go to class... it's really not that difficult.
she is the best in the department....no one can expleam accounting the way she does...so take her...if you want to do well...
This teacher is evil. She had something against me, I think it's because I missed a quiz for my Uncle's funeral. You think you know the material when she goes over it in class, but then the test comes and it's all over.
Ulstad makes acct 202 fairly easy.. each point counts the same and you normally get a point every time you go to class.. there are normally daily online submissions that are EASY points that make you learn the material. Tests are 20 mult choice and worth only 40pts. No writing journals and t-table like in 201. Dont miss much class and u will b fine
Ulstad is such a nice lady. She truly cares about how her students do in her class. I'd definitely recommend taking her for 201 & 202. Tests are only worth 40 pts, quizzes most weeks, and online submissions that are easy points. She's always willing to help you learn. Take her for sure. :)
She is a great teacher! I liked her so much that I took her for 201 & 202. She enjoys teaching and it shows. She has actually been an accountant and has used what she teaches in the real world. She truly cares that her students learn! She loves class participation and has a great sense of humor. Take her! Best teacher ever!
Ulstad is awesome! Her tests are nearly impossible which I'm not exactly sure why given that I always understand every assignment and topic we cover in class. But oh well, I can't deny that I loved her for both 201 and 202 and she is extremely interested in her students doing well.
Awesome professor. Class is mandatory. Study the power points and do the homework. It's a hard/boring class, but she makes it bearable.
Blunt, sarcastic, doesn't take any bulls***. I'm getting up at 6 AM next semester to take her for ACCT202, that's how much I liked her! but it's definitely all about chemistry. Either you'll love her or hate her - go the first week and find out which. I liked her explanations but she does expect you to do lots of work on your own.
Awesome, genuinely cares and explains difficult problems and concepts well. Is not patronizing and treats students like adults.
Great instructor! Very helpful, loves it when students stop by either to chat or for help with homework. I highly recommend taking 302 with her. It's a tough class, but she knows it and tries to make it easier.
Great professor. Difficult class but she makes if fun. Always available for help when you need it. DO THE HOMEWORK!! Quizzes and exams are almost always right out of the homework. Fun to be in class with.
She is a lot better than some people are making her out to be. Do the homework and the study guides before quizzes and tests and your are golden. I got 100% on the first test with 3 hours of cramming the night before, and 90% on the second test with about the same.
I was really happy with Ulstad. If you pay attention to which classes fill up faster, its Ulstad's and theres a reason for it. She keeps everyone awake and grades based on Homework (which is posted in case you need help), a few quizes (2 canceled), exams and participation. Don't get me wrong, it is a hard class, but she has an upbeat attitude.
Accounting is difficult no matter what. I would definitely say Ulstad is one of the better Acct. Professors. Subject matter is difficult for non majors, but if you get on her good side she will make it a little bit easier for you. She's a nice person overall.
For anyone who says Ultstad is unorganized doesn?t know how to use D2L or read the Syllabus. Everything for the semester is listed on the last page of the syllabus. She has online PowerPoint?s with audio to help students better understand the course material. She expects you to come to class but she is straightforward and she expects (effort).
Ulstad is really cool. She doesn't candy-coat realty and tells you what you need and do and when you need to do it. I suck at accounting, and I work my ass off in this class to get a C, but I talk to her as if she's my buddy. She makes accounting somewhat fun. haha
Awesome professor, great humor and loves to help her students. No doubt a challenging class but you will come out of her class very knowledgeable!!! Homework is not mandatory, but ALL quiz problems come exactly from homework. Exams questions are VERY similar to quiz and homework questions. Take Ulstad, you'll love her class!
Great prof. I have no idea how anyone couldn't like her. The class is tough, but that's because it's accounting. suggested homework (quizes directly from hw) no projects, tests are all multiple choice and no more than 40 questions. TAKE HER!!! class was actually fun... lame I know.
I LOVE this professor! I hated Acct, but she made it fun and much easier than I expected. Very helpful during office hours. Tests and quizes are based off suggested homework problems-very easy to succeed this way. She made me feel like a friend rather than a student :) I would recommend her everytime, hands down!!
Ulstad is overall a good professor. Puts things in terms you can understand. Very blunt and down to earth, approachable and friendly. Overall not a bad course.
Take Ulstad if you have to take accounting. She makes it so easy to understand! Obviously accounting isn't going to be a thrill, but she makes it at least a little bit enjoyable
Great professor - it's just an extremely hard class. Be sure that you study a lot while you're in this class (2 hours a day, perhaps).
I would recommend Ingrid over all other Accounting professors. She makes things so understandable and, she is very easy to talk to. Her tests are easy if you know the material! Keep up with the daily homework as quizzes each week are taken straight from the homework. Take accounting with her!
She explains things in a way that is very easy to understand, even for those who hate Accounting. Very painless class and I LOVED it with her! I'm looking forward to having another class with her!
Ulstad is the best! No matter if you're going for an intro class or taking her for 302, take her! She has a real passion for teaching and she's a really approachable professor and a very interesting person.
If I could take Ulstad for every ACCT class I have to take I would. She is very organized. She has chapter handouts online as well as handouts used in class. She doesn't make you guess what you need to study. Test and quiz questions are taken exactly from homework problems. Always willing to help. TAKE HER! She makes Accounting FUN! :)
Her syllabus is intimidating but if you put in the effort to be awake in class she's not so scary. Most of the notes are on hand-outs and the only homework problems she grades you on are instructional aids.
I LOVE Ulstad. She is hands down my favorite professor at uwec. I don't like acct but she makes class interesting so it wasn't a chore. Quiz questions come directly from the hw. Talk in class and participate and she'll love you. She also starts every day with a list of things to be happy about. Great Professor.
I took Acct 202 durning summer session. I had Dr Becker for 201 and Dr Ulsted for 202. Two totally different teaching styles. Dr Ulsted is very knowledgeable. Gives you everything needed to succeed if you put in the effort.
Ulstad is a wonderful professor! She is wonderful at explaining concepts and making things easy to understand. Always have fun in class and laughed more than I thought I ever would in an acct course. Quizzes straight from the HW problems (answers given), Exams not too difficult. TAKE HER IF YOU CAN!
I can see where Ulstad's teaching style is better for some students than others. It didn't do it for me. Instead of encouraging us to learn the concepts of accounting and understand the logic, she would show us how it's easier to memorize her chart or her tablet when solving problems. This did make it easier, but I didn't learn, I just memorized.
I loved taking accounting 201 with Ulstad! She is clear about the concepts that she is teaching and is happy to answer any questions. She is also more than happy to help you during office hours.
She is a great person but not really the easiest to learn from. You can study for hours and still do terrible on the exams. If you are good at memorization you will probably benefit from taking her class. She often does things different than what is in the textbook so you don't have the book to back you up for questions.
Professor Ulstad doesn't give clear answers, she is more confusing than anything in her lectures, and I think she is more concerned about retiring than she is about her student's succeeding. She does not want to go out of her way to help, even when you go to her office hours. Many is our class didn't like her!! Do NOT take her!!
Go get homework solutions. She's very unclear during her lectures going through her note packet. Leaves several sections blank. Cuts class early by about 10 minutes every day but we don't do very much.
Her tests were very difficult. Pay attention to the small details on her tests cause she words them very similar. Other than that, good teacher. She explains the information well and the homework you are able to get the answer key to so it's a good way to study.
Ingrid is the best.
If you do the class preps and show up to class, then you will pass the class.
Dr. Ulstad was my favorite Accounting teacher. I took 202 in the Summer, so it was condensed, which she said could make it a bit easier. Her daily assignments are very simple and designed to tell her what the class needs help with. She is always willing to help. Easy assignments and easy enough tests. Please take Dr. Ulstad for at least 202.
Accounting is a tough class in general but she made it as clear as possible. She is VERY helpful when explaining things. Accounting is not my thing but if you pay attention in class and do the homework you will do fine. Just don't let yourself fall behind and you're totally okay. She allows 3 unexcused absences which is nice. Very friendly.
Ulstad likes to scare you and think she is really tough, but she isn't. She is very nice, helpful, and very clear with her teaching. If you go to class you will be fine, which is good because most people struggle with accounting! You go through packets which make it SO MUCH easier and she can be pretty funny too! I would DEFINITELY recommend her!
I love Ingrid. Best professor I've had for a major class yet.
Ingrid is an amazing professor who encouraged me to continue with my accounting major. She made an effort to help me understand difficult topics. She's been an accountant so she knows what is actually expected out of you post-graduation and caters the class towards those goals.
