Kinda boring. He is hard to understand with his accent. I passed because I was able to teach myself using the text book. Otherwise, he is pretty easy going and sorta has a sense of humor.
an excellent teacher, funny, and has the clearest explanations
No Comments
strange man....you basically have to teach yourself.
i took it a long time ago but i remember i had to have a different professor because i couldnt understand a word he was saying and he went way too fast
Decent Person, very fair
HE SMELLS SO BAD!! Dont sit in the front row. Bad, Bad accent too, can barely understand him.
if he could speak decent english. he would be an excellent professor. If your from where he's from go ahead & take the class. if your not SAVE YOUR MONEY because u will teach yourself.
Michev is the best professor I ever had.
Very good professor, i got a B+ just shy of an A by 3 points. He is very clear and precise, works hard to get the point across and explains very minute details that might throw off students in the course. Overall he is one of the best professors ive had. and his accent is not at all bothersome. Very funny guy too.
He was a great teacher. People don't like him because he has a heavy accent but he is so easy. I got all A's in the 3 different classes I took with him. He also teaches well.
very good teacher, easy tests and he gives clear explanations
yea basically everyone in the class had no idea what they were doin so he didnt fail anyone...the lwest grade he gave in the class was a C and we all clearly failed evry test with flying colors...it was kinda funny
lIKE HIM ALOT* HE ALWAYS GAVE BONUS POINTS DIDN'T TAKE ATTENDANCE.. EASY GRADE**
He is one of the best, most clear teachers I have ever had, but only when it comes to mathematics. His accent is a little hard to understand but he realizes that and tries to explain everything as many times as he can so ther is no confusion. He is a nice guy all around. Also he likes to just add anyehere from 5-15 points to your test grades!
With minimum work, you will get a good grade. He strongly curves the test and you are given a take home assignment. You can't possibly fail. If you really need to know Calc II, take someone else.
This proffessor is great!! he teaches well... and tries to make sure that you understand the work he gives you. Tests are hard, in the fact that they are only 10-15 questions long at times... and he gives a 100 problem homework assignment due at the end of the sememster... but the hw is easy!!I reccomend this professor for math!!
Very hard tests. But he really does want to see you do well and always answers questions. my advice: STICK WITH IT and keep doing the work. he gives a huge homework assignment about a month before the course ends, and it replaces your lowest test grade. it's a lot of work but its a way to force you to study for the final...he knows what hes doing.
He was awesome. He told you exactly what would be on the tests and gave plenty of examples for a test and even had a class specifically for review the day b4. His tests are easy, he teaches well, and he actually cares about your understanding.
Hard to understand
I DON'T KNOW IF EVERYONE HERE IS TALKING ABOUT THE SAME PROFESSOR BUT IORDAN MICHEV IS VERY DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND, HE CAN'T REALLY SPEAK ENGLISH THAT WELL & HE GOES TOO FAST. IF YOU DON'T REALLY GET MATH, I SUGGEST YOU LOOK FOR A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR.
This was my favorite math professor ever!! Do NOT listen to anyone's bad comments about him. He makes learning easy and fun. I am the worst in math and I got an A in his class. He teaches you secrets and tricks to learn the problems, and he goes over them until you get them. His tests are really easy!! I love this man! If you suck in math lik
i liked this class alot... he was alittle hard to understand but after the first few weeks you get used to him... tests werent that difficult... and the big homework took a long time to do... dont put that off!!... id recommend him if you understand math... if your not that good at it you might want to reconsider professor michev... i def liked him
This teacher was very difficult to understand. He had no enthusiasm, and he seems to hate teaching. I enjoy math and did well no thanks to him. math learning center saved me.
he was really nice and tries to help you as long as you stay with him. if you have any questions he answers it as well as he can but i thought he was a good math teacher and im no nerd
I took this class summer session because I'm usually terrible in Math. The class was 6-9, and I usually left at 7:15, he doesn't care at all. and as long as I did my homework, I was fine. Besides, he always goes over exactly what's going to be on the tests the day before. I would def recommend him. Hes pretty funny too & I got an A =)
Great teacher except somewhat difficult to understand. Also hes slightly dyslectic so if your not sure how he solved it and you go step by step through the equation sometimes it just wouldn't make sense since he would mix up numbers on occasion. Except for that hes a good teacher and loves to help you during or after class if your confused at all
most of the time is 5 min late. The 1st 15 min he explains what is he going to teach. BORING! He has an accent, also his exams easy. He always take attendence when the class is over, well u have 2 go 2 his desk n tell him who u. lot of people is late n i he dont care. He dont check the homework just the BIG HOMEWORK if u re good at this take this 1
Semi-easy grader. Never understood anything in class, everything taught I had to go to the math learning center. He's definitely a character.
i loved this guy! he was the best math teacher i ever had. if you can get past his accent you should deffinently take his class! he's a fair grader and goes in-depth with his topics. If you need help or have a question he has no problem helping. deffinently take his course!
Michev comes across as a weird teacher, But fair at the end. If you are bad in Math and need to pass a course this is a good class for you.
couldnt nderstand him.
The Best teacher ever!...I have no idea about math, but he helps you a lot if you ask for it, great teacher and cool man.
He is really the worst, he is a nice guy and you want to like him but the way he teaches Math is not easy to understand unless this is a subject that comes VERY easy to you! If you have trouble in Math do NOT take him, he get's angry when you ask questions.
very good professor but he has a strong assent and we says time to write on the board he doesnt stop so is nt very helpful but he is a good professor. on test he gives extra time and write formulas on the board so is not that bad
he's a nice guy but he has an assent. Therefore sometimes could be hard to understand him. He writes a lot of notes on the board and he shows a little attitud when someone stops him to ask a question. Tests are pretty easy and he writes the formula on the board. If u take him math learning center is going to be u house but he's nice man
I honestly find this class mad easy. its all a review from algebra 1. He gives test with only 10 questions so they're pretty easy. he goes really slow. the thing is that he has a big assent. however, he is pretty nice abd somtimes funny.
Nice guy. Explains things multiple ways, which can either help or confuse you. His class was sometimes difficult and sometimes not. He has a rather thick accent so understanding him is sometimes difficult. But, he rarely had a problem with going over things again during class. His isnt the best, but he isnt bad either.
the comment below is from MAT 111 not MAT oo7 i got confused. Algebra 1 is MAT 007 and Algebra 2 is MAT 111
I had his for CAL2, he tries really hard to explain the subjects. However, if you want to walk out of his class with the knowlegde of cal DO NOT TAKE HIM. if you want to walk out with a C and dont do anything then take him. but his really know if that counts for anything.
THEE FIRST WEEK OF CLASS I COULDN'T STOP LAUGHING AT HOW EASY THE CLASS WAS GONNA BE. YOU REALLY DON'T NEED THE TEXTBOOK IF YOU STUDY THE SOLUTIONS HE PUTS ON THE BOARD. ALL IN ALL, HE'S A GOOD GUY, JUST NEEDS TO STOP REFERRING TO MATH AS USED IN DIFFERENT COUNTRIES - BECAUSE I WOULD LIKE TO LEARN MATH IN THE ENGLISH WAY, THAT'S WHY I DROPPE
Its a pretty easy class but, You really ca`t understand what he is saying alot of the time. Engish is his third lag.
Very knowledgeable. Makes few if any mistakes on the board. Good guy, willing to help. Favorable exam policies. Has an accent and isn't great with his English, but everything else about him is superior.
You will be hard pressed to find a professor in any school, let alone Suffolk, who has a better grasp of the course content. Very accessible and helpful. Bulgarian genius.
In the beginning, I thought the class was going to be difficult due to the fact that English is his 3rd language. But he's really not hard to understand, he speaks English extremely well and is willing to help you if you need. Go to his office hours if you need help, he's phenominal.
Hard to understand
Do not take him , especially if you are not good with math. His tests are very hard, doesnt go over home work. You basically have to teach yourself because you cant understand him half the time.
He always looked over my test and would give me more points if i Needed. Don't take calculus with anybody else, he is a genius. One of very few, but he is one. He will make you realize that americans are idiots. He is brilliant, funny and by far the smartest person I've ever encountered in my life
Prof Michev is overall a fair person in the end. Yes, it may be hard to understand him at times but generally it isn't. His accent REALLY isn't that bad and he shows you all sorts of ways to solve problems and you can choose which best way works for you. Took him for mat 007 in the summer and got an SA =] I recommend him for that course.
If you know math well then i recommend you take him easy grade for you BUT if your not good at math i recommend you don't take him because he moves on to next topic quickly and the only way you get a grade in his class is by taking his tests since he doesn't check home work.
English is his third language and it shows. He has a strong accent so it can be difficult to understand him. He's very intelligent and knows his profession. However, if you can't understand him, it doesn't matter if he can turn water into wine.
Michev 4 President! He might be the only instructor that cares about you doing well and it shows .If you disrespect him your an idiot, great time taking his Calculus 2 class, he is recommended in my book , if you dont take this stuff seriously you might as well drop out and find a job at Wack Arnold's because Michev is as good as it gets!
I really do not understand that negative comments. He is so nice and definitely not that hard to understand. The material is not easy, but if you actually pay attention, he is very good at breaking it all down for you. He was always willing to answer any questions we had, no matter how dumb they may have been. I would definitely take him again!
Teacher can be somewhat difficult to understand at times, but knows his stuff. Will take time out to go over things several times. Very lenient with attendance and has a welfare policy towards tests and grades.
I've never learned so much about #s from one professor. Accent not bad. VERY flexible. Attendance not mandatory. Flex. if you miss tests. Tests fair. VERY helpful. Having trouble-C him during office hrs. Nonjudgmental. Makes math simple. You'll be pleasantly surprised.
I am terrible at calculus. Calculus 2 is a very difficult subject no matter who you take it with, but Michev makes it bearable. It's still incredibly hard, and I had to study harder than I've ever had to study to pass his exams, but show him that you're trying & care (office hours) and it will pay off. Do not neglect the work. Calc 2 is no joke.
One of the few gifted math professors at Suffolk. English isn't his first language but he speaks fluently as if it was. He grades fairly, offers partial credit and was generous with sharing his time to help those who didn't understand. For those willing to learn, this professor is a blessing in disguise if you aren't that math savvy.
This is the best math professor at SCCC. He's a genius that can break down complex subjects into bite sized pieces. He's very helpful for anything not understood, his tests are based on what he teaches. Pay attention, show up each day and apply yourself = A+ Only regret is that I can't take him for every math class at SCCC. Very High Quality.
Pure genius. My math skills 2 semesters ago were non existent and due to his breakdown of each topic I was able to understand much better. I can't wait to take him for MAT111.
He jumps around a lot. Starts one problem, then goes to something unrelated, then goes back to the first problem. It's hard to take effective notes with that teaching style. Nice enough. Tests are fair. My biggest problem with him is that he assigns homework, but doesn't go over it. And he doesn't bother to ask if anyone has questions. 6/10
Best math professor I ever had!!! So nice and very helpful. I had to take pre-calc 4 times I just could never understand it. When I took his class I understood it right away. He breaks each step down and makes you understand it. He always goes over homework and asks if anyone has questions. Doesn't mind if you stop him if you don't understand.
Amazing professor. Can move fast but thats only if no questions are asked. Has no problem taking questions and shows you step by step. Truly wants you to succeed. Very realistic. Definitely recommended!!
He was a really good professor! Hard to understand at first, but you get used to it quickly. To be honest, I failed almost every test he gave, but if you do the "big homework" at the end, you'll pass. I ended up with a C after failing almost every test... so yeah. :) I'd take him again. He will also help you with any questions you have.
This type of class breaks unprepared students who then blame their failure on his accent. Incredibly helpful, although you are expected to have a specific level of knowledge and be proactive. Tests range from fair to ridiculously hard. Started with 35 students, only 11 sat for the final. Class is beast and moves with the quickness.
he will put the same amount of effort into making sure you pass as you do he is wonderful and breaks everything down into ways even i can understand very helpful compassionate and understanding would take him for all my math classes if he taught them thanks profeesor im slowly getting over my fear of math :)
Great professor. Very soft spoken with an accent but you can understand him. He won't ask if you have questions, you have to stop and ask him but he is happy when you do and will always help until you understand it. Tests are fair and drops lowest grade for big hw. Great math professor!!
This guy knows his stuff. He is an amazing teacher, he gives great examples and goes step by step on everything so you can understand wheat you're doing. Before every test he gives review problems which really help. His test are kind of hard but just do the review and you'll do fine. if you have any questions he will help u.
This professor was awesome and one of the few that can teach math at suffolk. go for him
Let me make this clear that I am not a great math student. I took him for 001 and 007 and passed both. He is an asset to suffolk and don't let the accent comments scare you. He speaks good english. He will help, drops lowest test grade and is one that actually wants to see his students pass. Unlike many other professors here at good old SCCC
Did well on one test. The rest I failed miserably, like in the 30'a and 40's. still got a C. He writes nearly everything you need for the test on the board. funny guy too.
He makes you work hard for everything if you do, but your hard work is always rewarded.
5 tests total . hard tests however east grader . try ur best you wont fail but for getting an A you really have to study by urself coz most of time you wont get what he is trying to teach. i am taking him again for 142 because he is easy grader and he is very helpful .. hoping for an A though.
His accent is something to get used to in the beginning. Does not affect his teaching. Very clear-cut and to the point. Will help you if you ask for it. Nothing to hide and no tricks when it comes to tests. Only thing, he skips around sometimes which can be confusing. Overall, good teacher. Funny, and doesn't always take attendance.
Took precalc in high school and ended the year with a 90 average. Took Michev for MAT126 (1 semester of precalc instead of 2) and I failed or just passed every test. Would not recommend him unless you know what you're doing and know how to study for math tests.
Great professor. The reviews he has is from students who don't study. In class he goes over any type of problems that will go on the tests. He assigns homework but doesn't grade it, it's up to you to practice. Very easy grader. The 2 classes before a test are all examples, and step by step explanations. He's funny too, and has a lot of stories!
He's a pretty good professor. You still have to do practice questions to understand better but he's pretty good with the explanations. He breaks down tests and quizzes for the most part before hand. If you go to all the lectures and practice the problems he goes over, I think you'll be fine. Textbook practice questions don't hurt tho ^^
Professor Michev is actually a really good teacher. I did really well in his class, but I can't say the same for the other students. He gives you an extra 5 or 10 points on every test. His accent is a little strong at times but still understandable. He's not strict with attendance, but if you don't go you won't do well in the class.
Has an accent but isn't difficult to understand. I would say attendance is important for your own sake but once he gets to know you he doesn't take attendance. If you get the concept you can choose when u go to class- he repeats the same thing pretty often you'll realize. So many times he teaches what he has planned and then just walks out. Dope
He's a good teacher but I have a hard time following him. sometimes he tends to talk about something and then says "i don't want to talk about this anymore" and moves on, which does not help. tests are pretty hard but if you study you should do fine. he does curve them sometimes.
Professor Michev is pretty good for multivariable calc. I don't feel that I mastered the material, but I don't think that is expected anymore. He teaches well, but the topics get especially tricky towards the end. He is a very lenient grader and he definitely knows his stuff. He can be pretty funny too and he appreciates students that want to learn
Failed every test besides the final that counts as double and got a B for the semester.
Professor Michev definitely gave hard test but curved them appropriately. his lectures were very direct and he was excellent at answering my questions and helping me walk through the process needed to find the correct answer every time. i would definitely take one of his classes again.
Took MAT 126, dont bother purchasing a online MYMATHLAB because he wont put anything on it. I have asked him multiple times and he doesn't cared to do so. You can barely understand him and he doesn't take attendance. Doesn't care to know who anyone is and barely can teach the material. I have learned more going to the math center than his class.
Had him for Calc 2, Not great at explaining things but puts any formulas and more on blackboard during tests, decent curves on tests - I got mostly 80s-90s in his class after curve and I didn't do ANY out of class practice/extra help. Good guy, looks out for his students.
His accent is sometimes hard to understand and talks very low. Have to really pay attention to understand what he's saying. Barely gives homework and when he does he doesn't check it. Isn't very good at explaining things. When someone asked a question he would laugh and say "what do you mean?" If math is a hard subject for you, I wouldn't take him.
Huge curves and Very nice!
He was a very fair professor
My hero. Grades strictly test grades but each test is at most 10 questions. Also drops the lowest. Assigns homework from textbook, but not mandatory and will answer questions when prompted. He takes attendance early on but stopped as the semester progressed. "Unofficially" adds pertinent data on the board during tests. Quite comical.
This professor is a savior, he doesn't care about little tricks and tips that may only work on some problems (which there are a lot of in calc 2). He only focuses on the core of the subject he is teaching and he really does his best to explain it and show as many examples as possible. Home work and attendance is not mandatory but are necessary.
Professor Michev is great. I would definitely recommend taking MAT course from him.
this professor is great he teaches very clear and he explain everything in a simple way he is always with the student so helpful and you should take him if math for you is hard
BEST math professor EVER!! He really tells you everything thats going to be on your exams and gives you examples of what hes going to put on them so you can study.
His tests are exactly like the example questions he gives you. Hell solve anything if you ask. He gives extras points every week he doesnt give a test back. You can pass his class if you put work down for every questions, even if its not correct. Very lenient and helpful. Im taking him again this semester. Failed calc 2 once before taking him.
Best Math professor at Suffolk by a mile. He focus' mainly on conceptual knowledge and has a strong hatred towards formula memorization. English is his 3rd language but he speaks it almost flawlessly. He is very intelligent, down to earth, an intuitive instructor, and he also has tons of interesting stories of him growing up in socialistic Bulgaria
ok teacher . a little hard to understand . gets to the point of the lesson , goes In depth . he shows you new techniques of basic math applications that are much easier than what you were taught when you were in grade school. he doesn't have an email contact up on the website which makes it hard to contact him . overall he's an ok professor.
CSE142 is a tough class no matter who you take, but Professor Michev makes it so much better than it could be. He doesn't make the students memorize things as he sees it as a waste (and I agree), and will give them to you on the board as needed. He wants to help the students and always tried his best to clearly answer all questions in class.
The material was difficult, and I failed every test yet I got a B+. Hes awesome. Took him for Calc II
A very good teacher, wants to help the students succeed. Drops lowest test grade, which helped a lot for me. Very available outside of the classroom, and doesn't make you memorize ANY formulas. Very understanding of the students. Will be taking him again for differential equations over the summer.
I took a summer class with him and although it was accelerated I was able to understand all the new material wonderfully with him. His accent is not bad at all, he speaks clearly and makes sure you understand everything clearly.
Take him.
Took him for all 3 calcs+diff eq. Obviously material is tough, but he's very easy going on grades. Big curve. I never once had a textbook and was still able to learn sufficiently during class time to average >C+. He's funny, nice guy, very accomadating. Definitely enjoyed his classes and wish I could take him with me to my future higher level maths
He downcurved me just because he didn't like me, I deserved an A based on my exams and by some extrange reason he ended up giving me a C.
worst way of teaching!
means well. drops lowest grade . he explains things extremely simple even if its hard material to comprehend . I am a horrible math person but if u do the hmwk u will get an A. even though he never checks hmwk , doing it will benefit u because u understand whats going on. just show up , do hmwk , and all be 100. good luck
Good professor, can be a little difficult to understand initially but past that he's a good teacher. supposedly a must take for the higher level math courses.
He is a good professor and makes things make sense. ASK QUESTION if you have them. He will explain things in other ways if needed. He is funny and makes it known that he cares. Overall, he wants you to succeed.
He does not curve and grades so harsh, he starts teaching the next test weeks before he gives the one youre taking. But if you go to his office hours he will teach you one on one.
Had him for calc 3 and differential equations. Super laid back and an easy grader. Would definitely recommend.
Has a bit of an accent but after a while you get used to it. I took his mat 111 class and he doesnt check homework. Only took attendance once in a while. His tests were fair. If you pay attention and do the work youll do fine.
He is committed to teaching his classes and is always ready for questions if you need them. He is also a good teacher and doesn't go too fast so you will be able to write down all of his notes. Highly recommend and a great professor.
I've had the pleasure of taking him for both 141 and 126. He's a very kind and caring person who is accessible outside of the classroom and is willing to sit down with you during office hours. He also teaches Differential Equations at Stony Brook University so he knows how to prepare his students well for what's expected at larger institutions.
Calculus2. Overall, really great professor. Had to take virtual due to Co-Vid19 but was great at uploading in-class videos/notes to use for reference. Really wish I took more advantage of going over these lectures, in general, math is a tough subject for me, that's why I rate difficulty a 4, but for those who understand math better then its a 2-3.
Really great professor, I would definitely recommend taking him. Explained problems thoroughly showing the easy way and the hard way. Assigns homework but isn't graded, but I would do them bc similar questions are on the exams. Exams are tough but in the end, it will work out for you if you put in the effort
Nice guy, but if you take him be prepared to self-learn. He's willing to answer all questions, but his lectures were still a bit confusing at times.
Professor Michev was the only reason why I passed MAT 007 & MAT 111. He is is super thorough and he teaches in the most simplistic ways for everyone to understand. He does NOT give homework. He expects you to pass the test. He gives review questions in preparation of the test which are exactly what will be on the test!
I took calculus 3 over zoom with Professor Michev. He has a bit of an accent, but you get used to it over time. He is very caring and curves the grades at the end of the semester. He is nice and you will do well as long as you put in the effort.
I do not recommend this Professor to anyone who struggles with Math. Hes very disorganized and he tends to get off topic and teach us stuff from MAT006. We were all very confused and he had us solve problems to new things that we were learning on our own. He then said he would call names if we didnt answer. Dont take his class!
He is very straightforward and even tells you what kind of problems are on the test. Even if you partially get the concepts you can get half credit on some problems.
Absolutely the worst professor I've ever had. no one in my class can understand his thick accent. doesn't go step by step to help us understand so we all have self-teach ourselves. says HW is optional so you have to ace the tests to pass the class. Def would not recommend it if you struggle with math
He really makes an effort to explain math in the simplest terms. If you struggle with math, don't expect to just show up to lecture and understand what's going on. Prof. Michev is lecture heavy, but he'll answer any questions, and he's very generous with grading. Just make sure to carry your weight, and ask questions! I would take him again.
Great teacher who will show you exactly what he is looking for on the test. Pretty lenient grader, and even gives cheat sheets. If you use the model tests and study before the tests, you should have no issues.
The BEST professor I've had so far. I had to drop Calc 1 in spring 2023 because my professor was horrible. Rachel Millings. She was super smart but she could not teach. She told me that I was going to get a F in the class. I tried everything. Then I took him for calc 1 in fall 2023 and I didnt even buy the textbook and I got an A. so take him!
Took Michael Bonano for mat141, super smart guy however does not teach in a descriptive way, Michev has clear study guides, answers questions, has notes and note recordings. He taught better than the others in a 6 week course how does that even make sense, best math teacher.
I took this course over the summer and I can say this is the best math professor I have had in college . Very accessible and is willing to stay after class to re explain any misconceptions even for long periods of time . He encourages students to ask questions very often during lectures so that nobody is left confused . Amazing professor!
Professor Michev is a knowledgeable and caring instructor who makes the material clear. The course isn't too difficult if you attend class, read the textbook, and utilize resources like unstuck ai for study prep. Overall, a solid math class worth taking.
hes a great guy overall but if you struggle with math in general hes not the guy for you or if youre a bad test taker. he gives no hw or extra credir just four unit tests, 1 take home test, and a final that is weighed at 2 test grades. he has a overall thick accent and teaches very fast and cares about his attendance and tardiness.
Prof Michev is from Bulgaria so he can be hard to understand at times. For every week he doesnt grade tests he adds 5 points; was good for our class because he took 6 weeks to grade test 1 and 6 weeks to grade test 2 so we got 30 extra points. Attendance is not mandatory. Would probably take again if I had to.
His lectures are hard to follow. He's knowledgeable but skips key explanations, assuming you already understand. Often solves multiple problems at once without clear separation, which gets confusing. You likely won't fail the class, but expect to teach yourself most of the material. Got to the math learning Center they are the goat.
I would definitely not recommend this professor if you struggle with math... He goes pretty fast and solves problems on a chalkboard the whole class. It's hard to keep up with what he's doing in class. Often times he skips explaining important key notes assuming you know them already. He only grades your tests and not the HW.
He has is own style of teaching and writing and when you understand it the lectures become easier. He wants to see his students succeed and work shown is a must. Decided not to count hw and use it for practice questions.. a lot of them, deff helped tho. Office hours if you ask i felt he was a generous grader and solid professor i would take again.
