IF U ARE IN HIS SECTION,DROP IT NOW,AND SWITCH OVER TO SOMEONE ELSE.NO DOUBT HE MUST BE A REALLY SMART GUY,BUT HE CANNOT TEACH.50% OF HIS CLASS FAILS OR DROPS OUT, 45% MANAGE TO SOMEHOW PASS,THE OTHER 5% EXCEL ONLY COZ THEY ALREADY KNOW THIS STUFF.

If you are having problem going to sleep at night i suggest that you tabe this guy. He is the worst prof i ever had. Trust me, i lost $500 cus of this guy. He can't teach and tooo hard!
Hate to say this, but I agree with the most here. I got a C for that easy course just because of this prof...
This guy is the worst prof in the university. If you have any course with him drop it as soon as possible. He can't teach, cant speak, and gives hard exams. I regret for not taking my friends advice when i took this guys course.
His lectures are pointless. Unclear and boring. He is very difficult to follow. He tries to help students during office hours, but he has trouble explaining his reasoning. He does not show enthusiam in his lectures. He makes the course very dull.
Worst Ever
Worst Prof ever, the entire lecture consists of him looking for the mistake he made while doing an example problem.
id rather get shot than take a class with this guy again. enthusiasm? passion for the subject? desire to help the student? nope. boring, dull, and lack of communication skills is better description.
Great Prof! Takes care not only about your mark, your knowledge also.
horrible teacher...very unclear, difficult to understand. Note: I presume he rated himself by writing 5,5,5. Do not take this rating into consideration.
Bad in language, has awful accent and can not explain anything to you. AVOID!

bad prof. AVOID.
worst prof ever! you cannot understand him at all, his writing is very hard to read at times, speaks english horiably, and his acent makes it that much worse. Tests are inpossible. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
The worst prof in York U ever! Avoid!!!! If you have him, DROP THE COURSE IMMEDIATELY!! even if you're a hard working student, you won't get a good grade! He doesn't speak ENGLISH AT ALL!!! Tests are hard and doesn't explain things at all!
This is the worst prof I have seen so far! His lectures are very unclear and his english is hard to understand. You can work from the text but that has no bearing on what tests will be like. They are always very difficult and hard to prepare for! Drop this class immediately if you have him as a prof
Not too bad. My last math prof was absolutley impossible, so I've learned more from him than I did from the other one. The course itself is hard though, and I think he did a pretty good job teaching it. His accent and writing aren't that bad either.

Horrible MAN!! RUN AWAY....run like your life depended on it! ABSOLUTLY AWEFUL... WORST IN MY LIFE ( including primary school)SOMEBODY SAVE OUR SOULS AND BAN THIS MAN FROM TEACHING!!
3 Words: Worst. Prof. Ever. 'Nuff said.
prof raguimov is not as bad as ppl on here exaggerate. He has an accent but if you actually PAY ATTENTION in class, you'll see that he actually explains things. His tests are very fair as long as you do the work and understand the theory. If you actually go to him and ask for help, he is very nice and extremely helpful
You guys so harsh and unfair on him. He is a great person and he teaches very good. If you think his english is not good that meaning you are not actually listening to him. My major is economics but i like math because of him. Take his class if you want to learn.
His focus is more of teaching/presenting his materials than making sure his students understand it.
Very approachable and very kind. A very nice person who expects a lot from you and wants the best for you. This course is not supposed to be easy, if you want an easy A go take basketweaving 101. This course is challenging and interesting. He is VERY clear and he ENRICHES the material quite nicely. At the same time, he knows and refers to text
prof raguimov was NOT bad. Some first year students taking this course still expect their teachers to hold their hands. IF you are willing to work for your mark, you'll get it. After all, this is a calc course... who said is was supposed to be easy?! Very fair and will bellcurve marks. Tests are not bad, but long.
for all those who took math1505 and think its a challeging course.....it must be because of this prof. try taking real calculus1014 with him and then talk about how good he is!!!! if u have this prof for math1014 switch to a different prof. trust me!
Nice guy, first time he taught the course. We didn't finish chapter 8 and 9. lol. Nice work. :)
Im in math1013 and OMG, I haven't been in his class very long and I hate it. At one point I knew all this, since he's been trying to teach nothing, he makes it so confusing...Like I said i havent been in it long, but still u can take it as u will, personally i would have changed courses if there has of been space.
Worst prof I had. Couldnt understand him at all. I had to drop the course because I didnt understand him. Doesnt write well on the board, so its hard to read his writing. He does know his stuff, but just cant pass it on to the students. Tests are hard.
- If u have this teacher drop the course - He is very HARD to understand - Hard and Long Tests - Many ppl have dropped this class(its empty compared to the first day)
if you are in his class, try to switch out of it b/c even though he tries hard, he doesnt realise that many dont understand what he is teaching, and that not everyone is a math major. his tests are really long and hard and often are made up of questions that were not given in the homework or during the lectures. he will bellcurve the marks though
He is the worste prof ever, i strongly suggest u not to take calculus with him. He is unclear and his tests are long and difficult. avoid him.
Before he came along I used to like math. Very unclear in his teaching. Does more proofs than problems... his lectures were discouring to go to. Takes an easy concept and makes it complicated. Switch out or attend Gibson's lectures.
Although he's not good, his tests are hard and long, his lectures are unclear and confused, I stil like him cos he's very generous to give us more marks if we do badly in the test. I was so bad in his class but finally i've got B.
AWFULL!!
Awful!Very impatient and irresponsible. Lecture is very unclear.
WORST PROF IVE EVER HAD. Thanks to Grade 12 Calc i was able to get a C+. You cannot understand a word he says, his writing is like a gr 3s and half of the examples on the board he puts up have incorrect answers. If possible, do not take any courses with this prof.
about two third of the class failed the final
not helpful at all
He has attitude problem. He does not care about his students. He teaches with his way and does not consider if his students understand. Although he recognizes students are confused he refuses to change his teaching style. The lecture is so boring and confusing.
Took this course several years ago with him. Mark my words: This is the worst prof. ever! You can't understand a single word he says. He can't even take a joke! He lacks a sense of humour which is vital to student-professor relationships. I was forced to dropped this course because I had a terrible midterm! Class avg. was very low!
Hates the students. Cant explain worth a damn, in fact, goes out of his way to make explanations *more* obtuse and difficult, and then *INSULTS* students who ask questions. I've witnessed this on several occasions. If tempted to take his class, slam your head in a car door a few times instead. Less painful, and at least you'll learn something.
Okay prof. His tests and exam are straightforward and somewhat easy if you do the problems. But he is not good at teaching so you'll probably have to learn from the textbook more than the lectures. He also acts kind of cold (albeit unintentionally) toward students since he will not answer questions during his break and will not stay after class.
testing is the prob, he's rediculous.
HORRIBLE!! If you are not 'gifted' in math, don't take ANYTHING, i mean, ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING with this prof! He does not know how to teach--- well, he doesn't know how to speak ENGLISH at all!!! DON'T!!!!!!!!! the test/exam is WAY tooo hard compare to whatever he taught in class! DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!

This prof is perfect for students who always "luck". He have enough power to let you know you are not live in perfect world. He made me hate myself during the semester.
His lectures are pointless. No one can understand his undertone mumbling the whole class. His tests are somewhat fair if you do the homework. He pulls questions from textbook problems. Also review his past quiz/tests, he will also pull stuff there. Final exam is harder,so do well on the tests, plus he bell curves on class tests, do them well
Absolutely terrible teacher...he may know math, BUT BE AWARE HE CANNOT TEACH FOR THE LIFE OF HIM....Absolute waste of $1000
He is very useless when it comes to explaining anything you might as stay at home and read the text book but that is of little help. GET A TUTOR
A very nice professor. The accent is not a problem at all, he explains very clearly, the tests are all right. You don't have to study hard, you only need to study the assignments.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS ESP. 1710
Please do yourself a favour, DO NOT TAKE HIS COURSE!!! I was a strong math student, returning to mathematics after few years and took this course to refresh. I am not sure if he knows mathematics. He makes so many mistakes. Just don't take it please.
In summary,we have 9 A+ in our class.I think you can study by youself, just do all questions from your textbook, you can get good mark.
Bad prof. Not helpful on breaks, lowers and boosts up your marks according to his own preference. Makes many mistakes, thinks that he is the god and students are stupid. Lots of people dropped the class. If you wanna learn sth, don't take him. If you want a bad grade- go ahead and take him, u'll not learn anything from him.
This professor is the worst professor I've ever had in university. He's absolutely incoherent in class (stutters and says uhh.. uhhh.. uhh. after every few words,) and talks as if you have some prior knowledge of the material. Tests are very hard. Talking to him is an exercise in futility. He just doesn't listen. Save yourself the trouble and avoid
I've got A+ and it wasn't too hard. Just do as many problems as you can by yourself, it would be more helpful than just copying from the desk.
Terrible, just terrible, worst lectures, even when I try to learn its quite impossible. Whenever someone asks a question he does not answer the actual question. My friend thought he had it bad with his prof, but after sitting in with my class,he realized how lucky he is.Honestly,if you can go to a different class, dont make the same mistakes we did
Maybe a good mathematician, but doesn't know how to teach.
He is a nice guy and is available for extra help. Attend classes and do the homework. Test material is on notes and homework.
Worst prof. I have ever had. Horrible at explaining and even worse with social skills. Does not care about students or even the errors he makes during teaching. STRONGLY RECOMMEND you do not take this course. WARNING: will lower test marks if you waste his time to re-evaluate, even if you've already failed the test! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
Make sure you took the prep-course or have a lot of prior knowledge of advanced algebra (although this is supposed to be a 1st year course) before taking this class with this proff. In addition, make sure you have the time to do 90% of problem questions and to receive clarrification from a tutor. You will NOT get much help from this professor.
Don't understand him
All in all, he Is a nice guy. The only issue with him and other proffs like him, is they know they stuff, but if you don't have good communication skills whats the point of teaching. Its not only the accent, but the massive stuttering. He jumps from one concept to another faster then you can even read. This class requires a lot of independent learn
You can show up in class to see his face and dats all. Do your work urself and dont depend on lectures. U barely can understnd wat he says bt if u solve lots of questions and read the textbook, u'll be fine.
Just don't do it. Don't risk your time, money, effort, and grade on this guy. You cannot understand him. He literally SUCKS as a prof, and his accent is just turning everything he says into codes & symbols.
I can only learn from the CD and the Textbook. Key points are learned from him only.
Please be aware this professor cannot communicate even if his life depended on it. He knows his stuff/materials but truly cannot teach.
This professor: a) cannnot teach b) does not know what he is doing c) stutters while speaking d) never helps you out (sent out a mail to him on a test a week before, replies to me after the test) e) should be FIRED i dont know why he is still teaching and how he got hired in the first place...
Never ever take this guys class... if you have him drop out or else he will make your life miserable. You will do better if you study the textbook on your own as he cannot teach at all... NEVER TAKE HIS CLASS...
HIS TESTS AND EXAMS ARE A DEATH SENTENCE... Long, hard and never-taught question. His questions/concepts are not even in the textbook. So you will be helpless as he cannot teach, and he takes questions from some random source so cannot do well studying from the textbook... even if u do each and every question from the book you will not get an A+
Despite all the negative comments, he knows his stuff pretty thoroughly, and is willing to help you IF YOU ASK. Hard to read his writing on blackboard most of the time and his English isn't the greatest but comprehensible.
Professor is insanely hard, out of all calculus professors, and I have seen the tests of many this man gives extremely hard exams, at first I thought people here were not MATH/SCI majors or anything, but it is insane, on top of that there are no calculators, no formula sheet, I am not sure how to do well, I am going to have study like crazy. WARNIN
Avoid this professor at all cost. He is a nice guy and he knows the subject however he does not know how to transfer the information or how to properly test the material.. Unfortunately he makes a lot of mistakes during class and therefore you cannot rely on your notes to study. Tests are very tricky.
I earned an A in his linear algebra part 2 class. But I have a math background. Initially, he was difficult to follow. He is easy to follow if you have a math background. Tests and exam are straight forward with a few challenging questions. Expect that from any math teacher or prof.
If you have a math background, he's not as bad as everyone here is saying. His notes are very clear and his midterms are fair. Final exam is hard but that's true for all math professors.
I took his math1710 as GNED course. My recommendation is that if you don't know about the knowledge already in his course, then don't take his course. Because he is probably the worst math teacher I had in University. If I wasn't already knowledgeable about that course, I could have failed. Even though, it's still hard to follow his lecture.
oh my god don't take this prof class. please no explanation, hard exam. Half of the class going to drop the class.I don't know why york is hiring a prof like this for math. And he don't take any question from the book.No TA for these class
One of the worst profs at York. Seriously, this guy cannot teach. He takes things directly out of the textbook and even then, the textbook doesn't explain things thoroughly either. If you can avoid this guy. You're just wasting your money.
Class consists of him reading directly from the textbook. Examples directly from the textbook. Useless as a teacher.
His notes are directly from the textbook, the course material is easy, the exams question are easy. but you won't get high marks because he makes the exams so long that if you know every question you won't finish half of it. it is like is you are smart but don't write extremely fast you won't do half of the questions
all his notes are from the book, tries to trick his student, whatever he says is on the test it's not, whatever he says is not on the test it is on the test, exams are made so long that even you know the all the question you would not finish half of the exam even though the question are not difficult
terrible professor, being smart doesn't mean good grades, he makes the test so long that everybody does horrible so he could bell up whoever he wants, being smart or knowing the material doesn't mean high grade, he decides wheather you get high grades, don't know why is he still teaching
coming as a 4th year student and taken my share of hard courses, this guy is rediculous, i decided to take an easy course with even with him teaching it, what's the harm? wrong choice. the material is very easy, you could do all of the question on the exam, the problem is there is alot of arithmatic involved without calculator you can't finish
How can york improve their academic ranking? Fire this guy
Goes by the book, material can be explained better but if you do the reading before the class you are supposed to be fine, tests are very long and its very hard to complete on time. Overall the course in not hard.
Goes by the book, material can be explained better but if you do the reading before the class you are supposed to be fine, tests are very long and its very hard to complete on time. Overall the course in not hard.
agree with last guy, the course is not hard, the course material is easy. the only problem is the prof, he is not good at communicating, and even worse he just copies from the book. going to class is a waste of time, better study at home. the guy is just lazy, very lazy and makes no effort. I want my money back.
The professor is very knows the subject very well.If you have an interest in the subject you'll see that he explains concepts clearly.
His notes are clear, although they are mostly from the book. But if you attend the classes there are certain things mentioned during lectures & the tricky questions in the tests are mostly from them.So only whoever attends the class or have good understanding on materials in the book can answer those Qs, fair prof! if you study well,A is easy 2get
He's one of the worst prof. I've ever had: can't teach, can't explain, useless.... But, he's tests are fair though. If you have a strong math background and can do independ studies, then he's not that bad.
There is a reason why everyone says he is the worst prof. His class is a nightmare. Never will make the mistake of taking his class again
Raguimov's not as terrible as everyone rants. Sure he teaches at a pretty slow pace, has an accent, & has hard (but not too hard) tests, but that's Calculus for you. His lectures aren't the best, but he has slides + board notes which make it crucial to go to. Otherwise, he's a really nice person who bell curves & WILL help you out with homework.
This prof is the absolute worst prof not only for math, but probably at all of York! His tests are terrible and super long, and he is clueless to think that any class could complete them, let alone one taught by him. I should honestly take legal action against York for making me pay for this worthless experience. If you want a good mark AVOID!
He's not the clearest prof when it comes to course content. His tests are extremely hard. But he tries, so credits for that. Study, Study, study for his exams. They are a killer!
This class was an absolute trainwreck with this babbeling incoherent poor excuse for an educator. He may be nice, but that won't fix his absymal class average. An ape could teach math better than this guy. Not to mention his tests, which are about as brief as the Old Testament. Overall if you believe D is for degree, you'll love this guy.
Bad prof. His examples are directly from the textbook word for word. No need to attend class if you read the textbook. His tests deviates from the the assigned textbook questions. Extremely difficult to understand. Messy writing on the blackboard, and also doesn't follow order of the textbook.
Tests are fair, lectures are bad, study at home.
DON'T TAKE HIM. The worst prof by far.
Not bad. but still had a little bit disappointed. His teaching skill is OK, but not good. He is willing to hear our voice. Due to the bad performance in 2nd term test, and complaints that the test questions were so different with the textbook exercise, He made the final exam easier. Anyway, don't be so scared. He is not a evil. Practice make better
He didn't know what he was talking about.
I know a lot of people who doesn't like this professor. The only way to succeed in his course is to study what he is going to teach prior to the lecture. Trust me, you will be set for the course.
He's a very nice prof, copies off the textbook a lot, sometimes pointless to go to lectures but dont expect to get an A or A+ if you dont attend (his words).. I would recommend taking his course
Professor Raguimov may have had a slight accent but he was one of the few professors to actually be passionate about teaching and to care about his students. I would deffinately reccomend taking 1505 with him. Tests and exams are easy just do practice problems from textbook. Course has 2 tests one midterm and a final exam.
not really bad ..hard work on ur part easy grades
Tests were nothing like questions from textbook.
Most people that take this class either pass with a C, fail, or drop the course. His reviews are not fake, his teaching method is to teach the bare minimum by repeating the basic examples from the textbook, while leaving your actual education up to you. Do all the questions in the book and you "might" do okay on his exams but don't count on it.
He is a very good professor, very knowledgeable but his exams are very very hard. He explains very well and is very helpful. If you want good grades with him, study a lot, but you will learn a lot too.
He is a nice guy, he is a really nice prof. My biggest complaint though is that his lecture notes come straight from the textbook - examples are exactly the same as in the book. I think you could actually be more productive not attending his class because you could get more studying done. The weekly quizzes are brutal, esp if you don't have time.
average standard prof
He is kind of useless. His lectures and examples are straight out of the textbook. He gives you recommended review for the tests the lecture before the test as if that helps. It's more productive missing his class and just doing the work yourself. The course isn't that hard, but he uses strange values for tests with banned calculators like roots.
worse prof. So hard to understand his accent. Hardly 20% students attend his lecture. Gives useless notes. Very bad class average
Class average is never a pass.
He has the worst accent, he will never answer thw questions in class and his explanations are non sense. Its a self teaching course and the class average is in 30s. Do not take it with him
Dont even bother going to lectures. The only way to do well in his course is to read the book and do all the problems and seek help when you need it.
sucks. you have no interest attending his lectures. cant speak english properly so you can't understand him. tests are pretty hard and are nothing like the examples in the textbook
Heavy accent, reads from textbook, no help at all, tests and exams nothing like homework. Worst prof I've ever had, do not take any course with him.
His tests are not similar to the homework. He gives some of the most obscure questions imaginable. He doesn't prepare us well for the tests and he is not easy to understand in class. Not the worst but not far from the worst.
He refused to use a mic and mumbles with a heavy accent... It's hard to follow what he writes on the board because it's heavily scattered and disorganized with no chronology whatsoever. He's a nice guy but all you have the chance to understand is the notes he writes on the board, which are useless if you have the book. Do not recommend.
THis guy gives hard tests that have some questions that are not similar at all to homework. Besides his tests, he is an okay prof and funny at times
Took 3 classes(2022,2030,3170) with him. He follows the text book, so do your readings and practice problems and you will pass with a good grade. He's a nice guy and helps students, such as posting old tests and will bell curves all tests(made the 2nd test out of 45 instead of 75 when the average was low). Very friendly and funny. Highly recommend.
Not too bad of a professor. Sometimes, his writing is quite messy and hard to read. Highly recommend getting a solutions manual and coming to class. Tests are fair enough.
If I only had 1 day left to live I would spend it in his class because it would feel like a century.
He is a boring lecturer and followed exactly according to the textbook
Avoid this prof! He thinks that all students are ginious and he has tough tests too
honest to god the most helpless teacher. CAN NOT UNDERSTAND ONE BIT! i never been one to "blame the prof" but my God, i suppose there is a first for everything! 1110 do not recommend, it surprises me how he is even legible to teach.. yes i'm sure he is wonderfully credited and knows his math but his job is to TEACHHHH us!
Very terrible accent. Grades tests strictly. Try to avoid him at all cost! he just doesn't know how to teach!
If you don't put effort into the course, don't expect a good grade. Do the homework, ask questions, and attend the PASS sessions. His accent isn't that bad either. If you took high school calc & data, this course isn't hard.
Has a thick accent which makes it difficult to understand him. I personally found it impossible to focus on what he is saying. If you are someone who does not like to rely on the textbook to learn. I strongly do not advise this prof.
I've taken the same class twice before (first time got an E because I didn't hand in an assignment, otherwise I would've passed). Worst teacher I've ever had at York in 3 years. First test too long, no one able to finish last 2 pages out of 8. 70 marks in 60 minutes (not open notebook). Average was 53%+/-. Second test avg 34%. No bell curve.
He doesn't let students copy notes from the textbook even though his slides are copy & pasted from the textbook.. He also doesn't like to see students using any electronic devices in class (he will point you out). Would definitely suggest making your own notes & doing the homework instead of wasting time coming to class if you can't get anythingnew
Worst teacher ever. Will tell you straight to your face you will fail. Tests NOTHING like homework. Not sure if he's even speaking English. Copy's off textbook directly. Avoid him at ALL costs
Ragiumov clearly knows math and the material but he does not explain it well. He goes directly from the textbook and does example problems from the textbook which already have solutions. Furthermore, his tests are more difficult than the material which he teaches and are not similar to practice problems covered in class or the online quizzes.
Do not take him, you will fail.
Tests are unreasonably difficult and are too long given the time restriction. Homework questions do not resemble test questions. No phones allowed. Doesn't explain things well at all, rushes through content. You'll be teaching yourself absolutely everything
This is the perfect course to take if you want every single lecture dreading why you came. Majority of class will drop the course so only expect only 20 people in your class.
Literally takes the textbook and writes it on the board. Does not provide any additional examples and then puts incredibly long and challenging questions on his tests/exams without nearly enough time to complete them. All test averages were roughly 30%... Grade adjustments were the only reason I passed. Taught myself completely from textbook
His English isn't the best and he is hard to understand. The textbook will be your bible for this course because anything he teaches you WILL have to re-teach yourself with the textbook. However, he does assign WebAssigns (weekly online quizzes) which force you to study and understand the material which i personally find a bonus.
He is generous . Do participate in the lecture, and read the textbook and the lexture slide several times, then you will be ready to get A+ for this course. Exam is easy if you were smart enough to use the four fundamental arithmetic operations. He gives the extra points after the final exam.
THERE IS NO EXCUSE U CAN POSSIBLY HAVE TO TAKE THIS COURSE WITH THIS MAN. I WOULD STAY BACK ANOTHER YEAR JUST TO AVOID THIS NIGHTMARE. The only way you pass this class is if u have a strong background in calc and never come to class, you dont want to risk this Professor, Dr. Iouldouz Raguimov, from confusing u of whatever knowledge you do have.....
I actually understood him, but whatever he lectures on is not really helpful for his quizzes and exams. I found myself eventually not attending his three hour long lectures and doing homework on my own at home using my textbook as guidance. At last even that is not really helpful, I regret not dropping his course earlier on.
I thought doing 1505 in the summer would be easier without the extra load of other courses. I WAS WRONG !! I definitely recommend taking this class during the school year with Pietrowsky as he is a MUCH better prof and goes at a much slower pace. ragumov's test's were hard, class averages was less than 50% with bellcurve. AVOID YOUNG ONES
dont take
Extremely unhelpful and does not seem to care about student feedback or questions at all. Quite rude and dismissive to questions asked during the lecture (or in general). Refuses to allow electronics of any kind in class (I use my laptop or tablet to take notes most of the time). quite possibly the worst prof i've had so far.
He is probably the worst professor I've had so far. He literally just reads off his powerpoint slides which are the exact copy of the textbook. His lectures are no use because you don't really understand anything. If someone asks him a question, he does not give them a proper answer. Also he can be rude at times and thinks he is always right.
Worst prof ever, I'm serious. Drop this class and take it with another professor. He does not know how to teach and tests are marked very hard. If you want your GPA to drop, take any class with him. Tests are long, class average was 42% for first test.
If you can't avoid taking him I highly recommend that you call the devil to strike up a deal, and even then the most that the devil will be able to snag you will be a C.
Awful. Just awful. Doesn't teach you anything. Don't take him. Even if you study your ass off you will end up with a c or a c+ at most. Avoid at all costs.
I went to the first day and couldn't understand his alien language and dropped it. #GoreBoizzzzz
He defienetly knows what he's doing and seems like a very intelligent man but not the best at explaining things (you could literally just read the textbook and that would be just as helpful or in some cases even more helpful than him). He skips too many examples and that's why the textbook is the saviour in this course. Electronic device policy :(
He's a very smart professor and clearly knows his stuff. The problem is, he can't lecture. He makes concepts more confusing than they need to be and thats why you become so dependent on the textbook for the course. His tests are challenging but fair and the mid term is straight forward. Also, he's a bit difficult to understand during lectures.
Makes test super hard. Can't understand him in class. Worst math prof.
He is a good prof. Listen and practice your work and you will do fine
3rd year engineering student here. Worst professor I've ever had in my life. 1- Cannot speak English. You can understand a maximum of 2/5 words in his sentences. 2- He does not understand the material he "teaches" in class. He just reads over slides. 3 - Is extremely rude to students. 4 - His tests are really hard. A true nightmare. ABORT. ABORT
Attending class will just confuse you and frustrate you more. Skip all classes read the textbook and do all textbook practice questions. His tests are fair and all his questions come from the textbook practice questions he gives you in the course outline. ATTENDING CLASS IS POINTLESS, use his online notes at a guideline.
His teaching improved alot, it seems like he put alot of effort teaching this course and it shows. Midterm questions were mostly from assignments.
Dr. Raguimov is a very good person, and is quite knowledgeable. His classes are focused mostly on theory, but the tests are based on homework and quizzes. This class is difficult so don't slack. Make sure to do ALL of the homework very well, and get help ASAP when needed. Go to PASS, or Grade Savers if you need to. Tests and exams are bellcurved.
Very good professor. Lectures are sometimes hard to follow, but if you pay attention and do the homework, you'll do fine.
Honestly he is a very nice prof but cannot teach if his life depended on it. This is coming from an A/A+ student. I wasted my money only to drop it because honestly I could not understand. There is only a certain point where you can teach yourself. His tests are extremely hard as well. All sections had simple questions except ours
This Professor is ridiculous. His lecturing style was extremely boring. I constantly had to consume caffeine to stay awake. He marks very hard and remarks the papers after the TA 's mark them and reduces the scores significantly. Overall very very bad. Just another part of York crappy Math Lecturers. Avoid Avoid Avoid!
Just another one of the collection of crappy Math Lecturers at York. I am of the believe that to be crappy is a requirement for working in the Math Department at Yorku. Avoid at all costs. You been warned.
cant understand wht he says and he knows wht he is doing but he cant explain it to the students tht well.
IOULDOUZ! This guy is amazing. Made my undergraduate studies worthwhile. The guy is always the life of the party. His warm smile and positive attitude lets you know that he's really there for his students. Is he worth taking? INDEED!
Paradoxically, he was rigorous, yet gentle. An inspiration and model FOR ALLL instructors!
Best lecturer I have EVER had in university. It was either I take the class with him OOORRRRR some other professor. Ended up taking it with him and I'm ecstatic.
Really Nice prof, lectures short, tests easy
INDEEEEED THE BEST PROF IN A WHILE
Easy to follow! Although no laptops or phones allowed, he will accommodate SPECIAL NEEDS! Extremely helpful and understanding!
If you are willing to put in the work you can succeed in this course. Genuinely seems to care about his students.
Had him for 2 lectures so far, seems like a good guy
He is not clear when he speaks, but he posts all his slides. Try to get extra help and teach yourself
Honestly the worst math teacher EVER! He cannot teach at all and has an accent which makes it even harder to understand his lectures. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE!
350 characters isn't enough to explain this prof. The most unbearable man, cannot teach. Lectures are so choppy and disorganized, they are beyond boring (watch how the lectures go from full to <20 people real quick), tests are brutal and have no relevance to the lectures, thick european accent. If you don't enjoy anxiety and stress avoid him.
He is definitely a nice guy who knows his material and is able to answer any question you may have. The only problem is that he's hard to understand not only because of his accent but in general. It was easier for me to learn from the textbook than from the lecture. He posts the lessons online which is nice if you miss class. No laptops allowed!
He has a heavy accent and is quiet so sit in the front if you must. His hand writing is a bit messy too. Didn't know whats going on and failed so had to drop the course as did many. Only recommended if you already know the material, can attend extra help or are able to learn on your own using textbook.
His lectures were so bad. He plows through each topic like he's ranting. Also, he likes to include extremely confusing proofing questions in his exams and those questions make up a fair bulk. That wouldn't be so awful if he could properly communicate to his students about the stuff that he expects us to know. The curves saved my grade.
He's an intelligent man but he just reads the textbook to you. He explains some concepts clearly but other things poorly, if you take his course prepare to learn independently a lot. He has a thick accent, doesn't bother me at all but can be an issue for some. Sometimes he can be rude for no reason. Tests are doable if you do enough practice
The guy doesn't know how to teach
I swear to god he taught us math in russian
Don't take class with this prof. His classes require you to know foreign languages, cus he does not speak English. Makes you feel like you're dumb when really he makes basic concepts seem like they the hardest thing ever. Worst math prof by far
very hard to understand and very bad hand writing
Not helpful, had a problem with Connect (which I paid 100$ for) for marking my answers wrong when it is really correct, emailed him and just told me to contact the support team (wtf). Bad lecturer, dont even bother coming to the lecture, it is better to self study. Do not recommend!!
Honestly, Dr. Raguimov was just average for me. Was he the best professor ever, no, but he really wasn't as terrible as it seems. He could work on explaining certain concepts more clearly.
Very difficult to understand. We were not allowed to use our phones or computers during lecture in order to use the E-book we paid for. Had to drop his course since I learned nothing. Taking it again in the summer
Great Professor
Horrible, do NOT take this professor ! would've gave a zero/5 if I could. Can't understand anything he says, makes everything so complicated, doesn't let you use your phone or laptop.
I have been in his class for 10 minutes and already can not stand him, slow speaker, inaudible, and just a horrible 3 hours of my week
The professor has a very monotone put-you-to-sleep voice. He is very hard to follow in lectures and it is better if you just study from the book and ask a tutor if u have any questions. The only good thing was that he has lyryx so theres practice problems you can do
Very hard to understand. Would recommend transfer out of his class as soon as possible. You will not succeed.
It's better to stay home and learn from the textbook because it hard to understand and cannot teach.
Has an impenetrable accent, dryly lectures straight from the textbook, tells students they can't use laptops, take pictures, or record lectures, and provides laughably small time periods for large tests. He's the perfect storm of a terrible professor. The class average on our first test was 30%.
Can't teach math at all. The class content is so easy but this professor made it extremely hard. You can't even understand what he's saying half the time. Material is easy but tests are unnecessarily hard
Honestly, his lecture is sometimes boring, but if you had prepared before the lecture, it is acceptable. For any math course, you need to do more practice for sure. If you practice enough, you can get a decent mark. Although the exams are relatively difficult, the final mark could be impressive because of the bell curve.
Worst prof ever! Can't teach math period! Breaks his promises and doesn't prepare you well for test! Switch to a more capable prof!
Great prof. He can be a savage, which, if not directed at you, is quite hilarious. Pay Attention in Class! The test is predictable. Question difficulty is as the homework - keep in mind you do not have the internet and friends to help then. Read through the textbook as review. Do the homework. You have to listen hard though - heavily accented.
Had an accent which made it hard to understand him and he sometimes taught things that we didnt even have to know. Tests and final exam were easy as long as you knew how to do all the webassign questions. Would i take him again no but hes not the worst prof.
Really puts mathematical thinking into perspective. The concepts are not easily comprehensible, yet Raguimov shines a new light on the mathematics which define what makes up the universe.
Reads off powerpoint slides in lecture. Refuses to do examples on the board; if you ask questions, he just repeats definitions. Tests are unreasonably long for the time given. Bad quality of lectures compounded by an awful confusing textbook. Insulted me when I approached him for help. Lots of proofs and assumed knowledge in an "applied" course.
Lecture are more on the definition and less on doing examples. but working on assignment gives you enough chances to work on the examples. be ready to work alot by yourself. the lecture slides are good to look for definition but again you have to put lots of time aside for this class. the tests are very long. but overall it was enjoyable challenge.
Just don't.
This prof is adorable! At first I thought he was hard but he really can teach and if you pay attention and know how to answer the web assign questions, you will do well. Nothing is really a surprise. I don't know what these people are saying cause if you are good student and come to lectures I think you'd be fine. My advice - sit at the front!!
This prof. loves mathematics and enjoys it for sure. But he is incredibly hard to understand.. If you can skip taking him if you are noob in linear algebra but if you have some knowledge about the course, this prof. will help you get better at it and shares a few key tips that I still use to this day.
If you decide to take his class, at least do not take it during the summer term. He did not let us bring any cheat sheets for the midterms or final exams because he was providing one which was of no use. The examples he gives in class and the WebAssign questions are completely different level difficulty from the midterm/final questions.
He's not helpful at all. When I tried to visit him outside of the class for advice he simply referred me to the textbook (which btw is useless). He can be insulting at times and doesn't accommodate for slower learners. The only saving grace is that he bell curves so you can still pass his class as long as your scores are around the average.
Most amazing prof I've ever had! I don't understand why other people are complaining about him. He takes the time to make sure his students understand the concepts and is very approachable. 10/10 recommend him!
Worst prof I have had so far. He acts like this is high school. He does not let anyone use laptops or phones. You cannot rest your head even for a 3 hour lecture. half of the class time goes to him telling EVERY SINGLE PERSON to get off their phones. He gave us a test on halloween and the test ended at 8 PM. he is just frustrating.
Do yourself a favor and watch professor leonard on youtube instead of attending Igor's lectures for calc 2. I learned nothing from the lectures i attended because he's very poor at explaining anything and even worse at being comprehensible when he's speaking. I highly recommend doing all the online assignments as they do prepare you for the tests.
I come here every year just to prevent other students from making the mistake I did. Extremely ineffective at teaching and a disrespectful man by my account.
If you're planning to switch to Schulich. Sorry to break the ice to you but don't waste one entire year. Math 1550 and math 1131 are built so hard. So so hard. Dont take class with him, donot recommend. But I had to for credit.
by far one of the worst profs ive ever had at my time at YorkU. he is slow and takes 5 days to respond to an email, and when he does, his explanations for them are so vague and useless. Like how on earth is this man a professor? If you have questions about the assignment he will instead direct you to ask the ta. THIS MAN IS TERRIBLE. STAY AWAY ASAP
Professor Raguimov has been very kind & considerate! He truly does have a warm smile; unlike other reviews, he takes the time to go over concepts for students who need it & is very approachable. You do need to put in the work & effort to get a reasonable grade. The course difficulty doesn't reflect this professor as he's willing to support you.
Do not take math1190 with this prof. He just reads the slides, does not answer students' questions and made the tests include material that was not even covered in class. He's a nice guy but seriously one of the worst profs I've had. He clearly does not care about his job or his students.
Prof is very rude and unhelpful. He just reads off the slides for the entire class and does not actually teach or give his own examples. He hardly gives us time to ask questions and when we do he gives vague answers that do no good. The class average was around 50. Truly the worst prof ever, made me lose my interest in calc.
I would not suggest taking the class with this professor. He really does not care for students and he just gives us generic textbook slides. He stresses students out to the point that I couldn't think about anything else other than this class. I still did not do well because his uploading process for questions on the tests is not good.
If you have to take him for Calc2 just watch prof Leonard on YT. There aren't enough words I can use to tell you how bad he is and how bad you need to avoid him. he's very unhelpful, confusing, inconsiderate and just rude. Especially in a pandemic he's somehow even worse cut everything online and harder. In conclusion DON'T EVER TAKE HIM!!
Avoid him far away! He has treated students with unreasonably arrangement, irresponsibility, unfair. His class, marks average C or D. He always makes some difficulties for students. His accent is very heavy. I learn nothing from him. All of the lectures self-study on my own. Strongly suggestion avoid from him!
Is not a respected educator. Reads from the material slides. If I wanted an audio component to what I was teaching myself from the textbook, it certainly would not have been him. At this point, after doing his exam in SU 2020, I would rather jump off a bridge than take a course with him again. Goes out of his way to make you hate life.
eh very repetitive and tiring lectures, basically just teaches whats in the textbook but somehow makes it more confusing, then gives you a ton of homework thats a certain difficulty, and then you do the test and its a whole other level of difficulty. The material he gives is always on the test, but just harder. He is very punctual about due dates
If you are self-motivated, and ok with ambiguity of what will be covered on tests/exams, this is your guy. 2 mid-terms and the final, not once did he go over any sort of review. Plan on practicing a lot more problems than assigned, as most test/exam questions won't be similar. Go over your graded tests to make sure it was correctly graded.
Please Avoid him . He uses only slides to teach a math course like he is teaching a English . You have to work hardest to pass .
A very hard to work with prof. His teaching will not help you pass, only you are able to help yourself achieve a good mark. Not understanding with his students at all, only his way goes.
Cant read what he writes and his lectures are useless cause his internet is so slow
HATE HIM. doesnt care about students and does not give enough time for exams. do not take ANY courses with him. wanna kms lmao
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF FOR ANY COURSE. I have no idea why York has a professor like him who cannot teach whatsoever. His concepts make no sense and the lecture does not make the course any easier it in fact makes it harder. My advise to people reading this is that they should not take any course he teaches as you will regret it like I do.
Attend only mandatory for participation marks that Im not sure I even got. Long questions in little time. Just reads Cengages notes and doesnt even expatiate- so prepare for self-study. Rude, inconsiderate, immature, closed minded. Makes an easy course unnecessary hard
Lectures are hard to understand and so the professor needs to improve his way of lecturing. The course textbook and online resources like YouTube will be VERY helpful in trying to understand the content and for studying efficiently. Not the worst math professor but don't recommend him as a #1 option.
Just terrible. He has no clue how to teach, confuses himself by stumbling over words and always has miscalculations. He is the worst with tech. I have had many profs in the past and this guy is awful. Never answers questions, as he doesn't know the answer. I would avoid at all costs and hope this prof retires and leaves ASAP!
Please read this carefully. If you have a class with this professor you have to drop out or else you either fail or get a lower grade. He does not teach well and he has an accent. He only reads from the textbook or the slides or cengage. His class average is always low and a lot of students complained about him but York didn't do anything about it
Please take another prof for your own good
This is my second time taking the course with this prof after being forced to drop it last year after an awful first test result, it's not easier the second time around. Tests have a ridiculous time crunch for the insane amount of difficult questions given. The fact the the median is consistently around 40% on all his tests/exams speaks for itself.
Avoid like the plague.
if you see him teaching a course RUN and don't look back. he doesn't care about students and is super rude. His marking scheme is ridiculously strict and he just straight up doesn't want you to pass. His classes are useless and you need to teach yourself everything. doesn't give enough time for the exams. just avoid him at all costs.
he is the definition of "avoid at all costs" do yourself a favour and drop his class
Very poor teaching style, mainly reads from slides that come with the textbook. Hard to follow what he is saying and examples he does. Often gives poor answers to questions from students. I had to learn all content by reading the textbook myself. Tests not extremely difficult questions but little time is given for the amount, test averages 45%
enough said, don't take his class, otherwise you won't pass
Worst prof ever. Do not take him! Heavy accent, lectures compromise of examples only, illegible notes Cannot email him Hard tests with limited time.
dont take him. if u want to not have stress dont take him
heavy accent, doesnt understand the material, cannot answer your questions.. just overall awful
Worst prof I have ever had the unfortunate displeasure of meeting. Puts no effort into his classes, is difficult to understand, and makes countless arithmetic errors during problem sets. The class average was 40%. Trying to understand how he has a career in education. Avoid at absolutely all costs.
Terrible! Please avoid! He does not know how to teach and his tests are extremely long! How is he still a professor at YorkU?!
Worst professor I've ever had at York. He doesn't know any of the content he just reads straight off slides and can't answer questions. He has no care for students at all and is extremely rude. Never take him.
Avoid! if you still can.
If I am told I'll have to study from him again, I'll go back to my home country and work in the rice fields.
Explains the content very well! His lectures are very clear, i didn't have to use any textbook, but just by listening, it helped me to get a really good foundation for MATH1019. He's really willing to help, and very inspirational!
He is so careless. He disrespects students and doesn't care whether you pass or fail. His class average always below 45 and he claims that is good. He has an accent so you can't understand what he is explaining. he does not know how to explain he reads off slides. he starts participation pool on 9:58 although his class starts at 10AM
Probably the worst professor to teach Discrete Mathematics for Computer Science. He really can't teach, just reads from slides, barely explains any concepts well except propositional logic. He even tries to use ProctorTrack for the course when other profs who teach the same course don't use it. For real just avoid him if you can.
Trust me. Do not take his class!
can't t teach anything
I wish I could give him 0. because 1 is a generous grade for him. He is awful. literally awful. he is very lazy, barely answers the email. I cannot believe how much he is rude. If you don't have any other option just wait for next semester. Math 1019 can be a very enjoyable course but Iouldouz ruins it for his students.
Even better online!
He is very fair and easy assignments.
Not suggest to take his course. He just read out the slide, explain nothing and refuse to answer student's question. Grading heavily on test and exam, but the mean and median of tests are below 40%.
STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS. This is hands down the WORST professor Ive ever had. Hes RUDE, does not answer your questions, and CANNOT teach. I genuinely do not understand why York hired him. I dropped the course within the first week because he is TERRIBLE. If I could give him a -75, I would. If you care about your grades, save yourself the trouble.
He is the worst professor I have the displeasure of interacting with. He cannot teach math. He instructs his TA's to mark as harshly as possible: forgot to show a step 0 marks, didn't solve a question exactly as shown in the rubric (provided when you get your grade back) 0 marks! Id rather floss with a cactus than suffer him.
After taking 5 years and 150+ credits at York, this man single handedly dropped my GPA from a full 4 to a 3.96. Avoid his class at all costs.
AVOID. He proctored our exam while the other sections did not. 4 hour exam horrible lectures bad at explaining things u have to self teach. weekly quizzes & assignments had to pay $100 to do them on a third party online platform test avgs were around 44% thanks to him my student info is now in some sus chinese spyware company (cuz proctored exam)
l'm glad l took the classes with this prof, he is actually caring, he organizes this course very well. Not only does he give clear reading, but amazing lectures. Easy pass with him.
The professor is hard to understand.I will never join his course again!
Organized lectures. Tests are similar to want we did in class. Always gives extra time on tests. The course is not easy by itself, you need to do a lot of practice exercises. I would take a course with this professor again.
If you have him switch out of that section ASAP, i trust me it will be the biggest favour you do towards yourself, this prof tells you to read the textbook before coming to class and then brings his own notes which are completely different and does not post them. It's near to impossible to understand what he is saying and cannot explain in dept
If you have this man please switch out. He recently brought his OWN notes and said he will not post them even after many students asking him to post it. Teaching is absolutely horrible, very hard to understand and moves at a extreme fast pace.
From the first day, this professor is very hard to understand from his accent. He is extremely unorganized and unwilling to help his students. A friend of mine walked out in the middle of the lecture due to the frustration of how bad the prof is and honestly I was considering as well. SWITCH OUT IMMEDIATELY AND SAVE YOURSELF.
Had to drop his class because of how awful his teaching and lectures are. It's a guaranteed low mark if you have any class of his. With all these complaits against him I'm surprised he's not outta York rn. Must be cuz he's on tenure. *sigh
He doesn't post notes at all despite having them all written down. His writing is ineligible and no one can understand him speaking. If you get him either switch or drop the course.
RUN AWAY,this dude can barely speak properly and lets not mention his handwriting and if your in his class you should just switch sections while you can otherwise your on your own and instead of attending lectures you should start reading the book and doing its problems instead
Extremely lecture heavy, reads off the slides, very boring class, dont bother attending
He was the WORST professor I've ever had, no review at all plus a very difficult exam. And going to ask questions you may get sarcasm from him. Will never take his class again!!
He just reads of the slide, teaching style is very boring and even if you ask him a question during lecture , he will give you arbitrary reply rather than answering the question
This professor is a really hard marker and on top of this his assignments and exams are extremely challenging. In addition, his lectures are tough to follow and often don't leave me with any retained knowledge. His teaching style consists of reading off of premade slides often adding no extra information. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
good prof
Terrible Professor. Class average was 20 percent when I dropped.
This course is tough but this professor always gives a minimum 30% bell curve at the end of the term. Most people who were supposed to fail ended up passing because of the generous bell curve this professor provided. He also gives opportunities to get bonus marks. The people that are complaining are the people that didn't study. He is awesome!
Just awesome. I think all the bad reviews are from previous years because his teaching style and grading style has definitely improved tremendously now, because me and my peers have nothing bad to say about this professor. Simply awesome! Also provides a massive fat curve at the end.
HOLY I CAN'T BELIEVE I PASSED WITH A GOOD MARK THIS PROF IS AWESOME
I'm not sure why everyone is saying he is a bad Professor. He is a hidden gem. Very knowledgable, charming, and caring. Would not have been able to learn or succeed in this course without this Professor. I guess the others here think they can do no work and get a good grade. That doesn't fly in University my friends. Take him!
international students receive help. lots help and lots examples. very good. all my friends like professor. good.
THIS PROFESSOR BELL CURVED SO MUCH.
easy professor. good feedback. lots of support.
want to pass? take this professor. absolute gem.
hidden gem.
never had him but joining the bandwagon
Everything is so bad, no clear criteria for marks, tests doesent base on texbook or assignments, and have the worst assignment due dates of all classes of the same course, evenblamed us for the worst averge out of all math1025 classes
He has no rules. No boundaries. He doesn't flinch at torture, human trafficking, or genocide. He's not loyal to a flag or country or any set of ideals. He trades blood for money.
Took him in 2021 winter, and he mumbled so much, talked slow, and was hard to understand. Would avoid him
I couldn't understand his class at all because of his accent.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF. He is very bad as all the other reviews say. He does write his own reviews on here that's why you sometimes see a random 5 star after like fifteen 1 star reviews. It is much lower than 1.9.
This prof is a hidden gem. He's knowledgeable and caring, breaking things down well. Attend class, read the textbook, and use unstuckstudy ai - that combo really helped me get that B+.
He's from Uzbekistan or something, and maybe Borat was right about them
Yeah never taking him again
he is not a bad person but a bad teacher. Classes were extremely boring and attending them did no good. Self studied everything but he curves a lot .
This prof made me drop out of school. It was my first math course and I though all of profs are going to be like that. I got C+ but I put sweat and tears to get an A+. I gave up after I saw my C+ and dropped out
