Boring class, but that shouldn't reflect on the teacher. You can skip most of the classes, study on your own and still should be able to do fine. Prof. Rytikova has a strong accent, but it's not hard to understand her so it's not really an issue.
Takes most exam questions from the workbook that goes along with text book, although she will not tell you to buy this!
Was very helpful and her teaching of the material was also very good. I'm not a math person and I passed with an A
VERY hard class. she moves along to new topics at break-neck speeds and it's very confusing. if u don't understand one topic, then ur pretty much screwed cuz the info is all cumulative.
nice but infexible russian lady with no idea that in USA there are too many different types of students thus didn't adjust teaching style. used test bank Qs which were different from the book style...so basically didn't teach us how to interpret Qs.
rytikova is really good, although the class is very difficult. she makes herself available, and is a good teacher. (don't take miller!!) there is a ton of hw, a quiz per wk, and very difficult exams. but she's best of the 3 professors. hard hard class
I love Dr. Rytikova!! She is so fun...very helpful and just seems like a happy person! She teaches in a very effective manner: she thoroughly explains things. I also have her for IT 103 and she's just as good in that class too! Beautiful!!
Dr. Miller is in charge of all the tests and things so nothing is up to her. but her lectures are great and she is very approachable and always open to questions. She is one of the nicest teachers I have had and is definately the best one to take.
This teacher is an EXCELLENT teacher. She really knows how to explain topics clearly and to make sure it is understandable. She is fast, but the way she teaches it makes a lot of sense. It is extremely important you go to her lectures.
Very nice lady but the class is hard... way to much homework which is not even whats on the exams...but if u take this class take it with her Miller is worst...She's really helpful so it's best to take it with her
The class is very difficult, but that is not her fault, because all of the STAT classes have to be the same. Her accent makes it a little hard to understand, so do your homework and sit in the front. She was willing to make a lot of special acceptions.
Professor Rytikova is one of the best Professors to be had at GMU. Her pace is quite fast, but she explains things in a way that is both informative, yet deceptively simple and clear. Personally, I find that Russian accent cute. ~_^
Hardest class i have ever taken. The material makes sense in class if you pay attention to lectures-but homework and test based material is totally different. At least 3-4 hours of homework a week-has nothing to do with class material.
Easy class, no need to go to class if you know alot about computers.
This class was extremely hard. Lab was difficult too. We had to do this project that literally took me 100 hours to compete...no joke. I cannot understand a word she is saying because of her russian accent. DONT TAKE HER!! plus her tests are VERY HARD.
She's not too bad. Yeah, she has an accent but she's still easy to understand. Tests suck, but do the HW and you should be able to get an a or b. Curve was pretty generous too i thought.
This class is so boring because it's impossible to understand her accent so you just can't keep yourself from dozing off. She is a nice woman but I'd prefer to take the class from someone who speaks more clearly.
Always willing to help--will spend as long as you need at office hours/responds immediately to e-mails. Best STAT 250 teacher--her class' grades are better than any of the other professors.
If you are taking this class, you have to have Dr. Rytikova. She is so funny and always willing to help. She loves what she is doing and it is apparent when she teaches. Her class average is always the best, which says a lot. You will be glad you did. A lot of work, but grade system is awesome/easy
Very good teacher! I hate statistics, but she makes it possible to survive! The class is very demanding, but she explains stuff really well, so it makes it a little bit more managable. I wouldn't like to take this class with anyone else!
Good students do well, only half the class shows up. The class is open notes, open book. She personally offers a study session. Her accent is russion, but if you show up you learn to love it
The professor is great. This class is boring but she tries to make it fun. She is always willing to help. Never had problems with her accent.
Cute, fun, quirky professor who likes to make jokes. She's Russian and has an accent, but you can understand what she says. For your major IT webpage project, she will let you show her the webpage and she will comment on it and tell you what you need or are missing.
GREAT TEACHER, EASY CLASS IF U DO THE HOMEWORK AND GO TO LECTURE, OPEN NOTES/BOOK FOR EVERYTHING, FUN CLASS... HOMEWORK DOES SEEM TO TAKE UP QUIET A BIT OF TIME THO
All I can say is she is THE BEST!!
She makes everything very clear. Her class is made so if you do the homework and come to the tests then you will do very well.
With well-organized teaching plans, easy to understand presentations, great dedication to her students, and the willingness to help when help is needed, Dr. Rytikova is definitely one of the best professors ever.
One of the best math-related classes I've ever had. Explains concepts very clearly, does many examples in class. Fair tests. Extrememly energetic and enthused instructor. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Does not teach. Flies through the notes and expects you to get them yourself. Tons of information you have to learn. Pointless for a psyc major. Lab is awful.
She is a very good teacher, I had her for IT103, but she also had the highest class average in STAT250. Her class is easy and she is some eye candy.
Frankly speaking shes very frank and her english vocan is rather limited frankly speaking and to be more frank u dont learn a thing in this class its just and easy GPA booster frankly speaking and her frankly way of speaking would get on my nervs sooooooo bad to be frank!
The course is hard and is used as a filter for those students pursueing a Bachelors in Science. However, she is a great professor and very good at providing clear and concise material. Always helpful in answering questions and will go out of her way to help you as long as you ask.
Great teacher easy class to start with. Very knowlegable and helpfull.
Great class, Homework takes a long time, plan to spend at LEAST 2 hours a week, While it is open notes you still need to go to lecture, Great teacher.
I think that she is the best teacher to take if you have to take this class. Dr. Miller is in charge of the tests and homework. He makes this class harder than it should be. Be prepared to spend a lot of time on homework and take-home tests. I liked stats before I took this class!
I don't understand computers and technology and this class made it harder because it's so confusing especially if you don't study the notes and the book every lecture
Very nice. Helpful. Strong accent sorta. she is da hottest teacher eva-um..about the class-if u aint cleva-u wont pass-like me,u might see-its hard enough to worry bout da data-but wateva- i aint no hata- youll do well if u focus on da class-dont fault like me cuz i was focused on dat...
She is a great professor to take because she is very detailed and takes time to go over many examples to help people learn. The many homeworks are not as important as the quizzes and definetely the midterm and final so concentrate on those more.
My 2nd time taking STAT (had Miller b4) I HIGHLY recommend Rytikova. She is an awesome teacher and very clear. Great at explaining. Class always has the highest average & gives helpful hints b4 quiz Make sure to do ALL homework and come to class. It's crucial to your grade. I have an A at midterm.
Great professor. Did not have any troubles in this class.
She's probably your best bet for Stat 250. Awesome teacher, good looking, hot accent, very understandable. Goes over everything numerous times, homework due on first class day, quiz on last class day of the week. If you have to take IT250, she's the one you want.
She is a good teacher but her multiple choice exams get on my nerves b/c there is no chance for partial credit on anything. Depending on the TA you have they can be annoying when grading the hw, there have been multiple times a friend and I work on a hw together and one got higher than the other
funny teacher, helpful, makes the class interesting, just participate, u'll be fine..
great professor. she's laid back and funny at times too. she makes sure you understand what's being discussed in class and tries her best to answer all questions. i would definitely recommend taking her class.
The best professor to take for IT 214. Homeworks and labs help make database easier to understand. She is very clear on making students understand SQL and I highly recommend her than any other professors. I wish she taught more IT classes!!!!
Awesome professor!! There is a lot to learn in stat250 but she really explain well and she's really good at teaching. I would recommend her for everyone who needs to take stat250 over other professors.
I did only marginal, but to be honest the only reason is because she is great looking. I usually am not distracted, but she is a great professor, but during exams...too easy on the eyes.
Stat250 is a pretty hard class that requires a lot of work, but if you have to take it I would recomend Rytikova. She is very nice and really wants everyone to do well.
Great professor!!! She can make anything easy to understand and is a must have professor for any class!!!
She is a wonderful teacher. She takes the time to explain everything very clearly. Her exams are challenging but are only on what you learned. I am so glad I had her for a teacher.
grrrrrrrrreat teacher. alot of work but an eaaasy A+
Lots of studying. A LOT of busy work but Rytikova is a awesome professor. She explains the material and offers help aside from class. Wants everyone to do well..there are 3 in-class & take home exams as well as a FINAL which is cumulative. About 12-13 quizzes and drops lowest 5 & all homework counts, ea. 3-4pts & drops lowest. Work hard & pays off.
The best stat professor at GMU. You must take her class if you truly want to understand stat and get a good grade. Lots of homework, take home exams are tedious and very time consuming. Her lectures are essential for the material, don't skip class ever! An excellent professor. I registered for another class but dropped and took her class instead.
Heard alot of horror stories about this class...not true. There is alot of hw to do, about 30, but she takes the best 15.so technically you dont have to do them. easy material, minitab( the program for the class) is easy to use, be ready to use ALOT of printer ink. makes class interesting and is kinda funny. take with her, GREAT teacher, easy grade
No matter what teacher you have you will be taught the same information the same way, but Rytikova is very clear and seems to actually try to give you the information in a more understandable way. Good sense of humor and always keeps loudly and clearly. The class is hard as heck though and definately time consuming!
Best teacher in the Stats department. She's very helpful and will help you understand something should you not get it. The class can be time consuming such as homework or test but if you get the concept down then you won't have a problem.
Highly recomended. clear and fluent and know what she is teaching. But lots of homework, and you defeinitely have to put effort. exams are easy, good grader (curves a little),....
What can I say, best STAT teacher in the STAT dept. Other than the homeworks, which is most time consuming regardless of which professor you're taking, she is the best one. Very helpful and clarifies anything in class or outside for anyone who doesn't get something. RECOMMENDED!
She is the best Stat teacher in the department, she's nice and helpful.
A++ TAKE HER! SHe makes hard statistics interesting. I received A for class! BUT TAKES ALOT OF WORK! But hey it is college, what do you expect
Interesting class. Very enthusiastic about Databases. She has an accent but easy to understand. Two midterms and a final, one project divided into two phases, exams not cumulative, definitely need the textbook, HW's every week but not too bad or time consuming. Oh yeah, did i mention she's HOT! Highly recommended
not overly help helpful on a one on one basis and can be rude at times. also very boring in class
Very good teacher;she knows what she is talking about and has a very clearcut outline of what needs to be discussed and she covers it all (she likes to take UP TO THE LAST MINUTE though). Homeworks are online and you can take them as much as you want (guaranteed 100)and there are 4 tests, quizzes AND minitab assignments to help your grade too!
Her lectures are not very clear. When she does the grading (TA does most of the grading) she takes off points for no reason! She could not justify why she took off points from my project, but refused to reimburse the points. Overal, she's a good professor.
I don't know why people praise this professor. I agree with the guy who said she takes points off for no reason. Also, there was one time where a homework, a project draft, and a midterm exam all took place on one day. Also, there was a homework due on the week of the final exams. IMO, this is ridiculous.
Going into this course know it's a hard class to begin with so there is little to nothing a teacher can do to make something that is intended to be hard easy. If you study daily and do your homework only a moderate amount effort will be put into the class to keep your head above water. She never lets you out early but normally its for the better.
From my view, I think she is decent but she has high expectations from students. Projects and assignments are too not well-described and she grades them tough as well. Databases are not a hard topic but she complicates it. When tutoring, she is helpful but most of the time I go to the TA. She seems better suited for STAT than IT.
dont take this class with her because she's hot, she's hard to understand and her T/A's suck. she doesn't explain the sample problems she "solves", she just asks you questions in a thick accent and confuses you.
Brilliant, excellent professor!
All those negative comments are from lazy people who are not willing to spend time on their education. I took this class during the summer to get it out of the way, and I got an A. If you just stay on top of things you'll be fine...but dont expect to pass if you dont do homework.
she is not a bad teacher. if you don't go to class, you'll get left behind. then it'll get a bit confusing, but as long as you put effort into this class, you'll be fine. i managed to get an A!
Took the summer class. She moves through the material very fast. If you don't keep up, you'll be lost. She tries keeping the lectures engaging, sometimes it works. Lecture slides are online but she leaves info out of them. Daily quizzes. Assignments are easy to follow. She drops lowest homework and quiz grades. Very easy to contact for questions.
TERRIBAD. Don't take her unless you know Russian or whatever the heck language she tries to speaks in. Her lectures consist of you trying to figure out what she's talking about. Her classes are usually so big that she doesn't take time to go over what a majority of the students have problems on.
Yes, she speaks with an accent. But no, it's not hard to hear/understand what she's saying because she speaks English very well. Now that we know that, she is, to quote Johnny Knoxville, like "The Russian Police....stern...stern but fair." Do you work. Make it to class. She gives 3 tests, 1 project, and a weekly assignment. Do it and you'll be fine
this professor isn't too bad. its the class thats HORRIBLE! the guy that runs the stat program pretty much dictates what we have to do. the work load is ridiculous. she's a nice lady, willing to help but she is very quick and expects you to learn it as quickly as she explains things to you. this class is time consuming and minitab sucks!
Great professor! Just do your homework, attend classes and you'll be fine. This is one of those rare classes where you actually learn something.
Just because she has a slight (and I should add, cute) accent doesn't mean she's hard to understand. She's really clear on the material and she always makes sure the class knows what will be important in quizzes and tests. She's also willing to help out outside class though I rarely took advantage of that. Just do your hw and you should be fine.
she is the BEST stats teacher there is. all stat classes are tough if you do not understand the concepts, but prof rytikova makes them easy to understand. she is approachable and is willing to answer all questions. i rec. her class to everyone.
most people don't really want to be in a statistics class but she does a great job in my opinion. furthurmore, she's quite a good looking woman... so guys: take her class, and ladies: strive to be like her.
Awful teacher. Her notes do not make sense. English not her first language. Can not understand a word she says. She loves minitab, but it is stupid and she is unclear in it. Her tests and quizzes are confusing and stupid. Awful teacher, stay away.
Stat250 is not that great, but with her it might be a little easier and possibly more fun! Overall Stat is not my favorite... if there is no quiz, you can just not go to the class because she doesn't take attendance.
Great professor! Do your hw, assignments and you'll be fine.
My first D, ever. A student, but this was ridiculous. she is obsessed with minitab, and if you turn in your assignment without your minitab# you fail assignment. grading rubric is well described in syallbus but minitab grading appears subjective/arbitrary. weekly quizzes and exams are mult. choice which helps, but still ridiuclously hard.
Excellent professor, would love to have had her for regular semester class instead of summer term - much too accelerated!
She is a good teacher. Understands students are not all mathmaticians. I wouldn't recomend taking this course over the summer. Its extremely difficult due to requirements and regulations. I would do the homework (minitab and mystatlab) Go to class and studyx3. GMU really needs to rethink what is really required for the real world use of math.
Hardest class I ever took! The workload is crazy & half the class dropped out. HOWEVER she is a very good professor, always willing to help you out!If you have to take this class take it with her. Also, make sure you do your HW & minitap assignments it will really help your grade.
One of the worst teachers I've ever had. She doesn't act human, she teaches and acts like a robot. Expects everyone to kno everything right away. Stay away from her if you can. Does not explain material clearly, and she rushes.
While the workload was somewhat heavy and the lectures were dull as hell, she's a reasonable teacher - and anyone who didn't get a C or above wasn't trying at all. (I failed at the Tests but still passed with a C)
she is the BEST STAT prof out there! her explanations of concepts is clear she has a bit of a accent but understandable. she is very knowledgable in the field. great prof i rec her.
She try's her hardest to get you to understand this tough information. You really have to try in this class, and take time to study. If you don't study on your own during the week... You will get under a C. The information is from the book, the slides, and the extra online bit. You need to study from all of these outlets to do good!

Great professor! Explains stuff very well.
Great Prof!! Very Clear with instructions. If you have issues she is able to clarify them. Made a rather dull subject fairly stimulating, and was good and getting through material quickly. Some of the assignments were dull and tedious, but she was fair about grading them. Def recommended!
TAKE HER! She is the greatest. She's so stimulating, nice, crystal clear, and the material (though confusing at first) is actually very easy. You can get an extra 5% on your final grade by doing a presentation too. She's very passionate about databases too.
Great teacher, helpful, but the tests are so stupid. You take them online in class and you can't skip questions or go back.
Shes a very good teacher. The class can be very hard, since we had to learn the material at such a fast pace. In general, she is very knowledgeable in this subject, which really shows in the way she teaches the class. The hw was time consuming, and the exams were quite difficult.
She absolutely LOVES databases! She gets so into them that her voice crescendos and accelerates as the class goes on. The HW's are a fantastic learning tool, and she makes MySQL easy to learn if you come to class. The second half after the midterm is way better than the first half. The "main" project was fairly simple. Easy A-, I highly recommend.
She was awesome! Knows a ton about databases. You'll have to work for your grade, but it's very much worth it. Her exams aren't too bad, just be sure to study thoroughly. I would recommend her since she designed all of the database courses. Very passionate about her topic!
Excellent Professor. Very helpful. Took it over the summer so had 2 Midterms and 1 Final (cumulative). Took it over the summer so had a bunch of homework which was time-consuming but VERY easy! Final project also fairly easy. She gives you input on it if you go with a draft/outline which can improve the grade. Practical class - real world work!
Extremely nice lady, very passionate, the lecture is very good and will help you understand the rather complicated material. I found that the exams were pretty difficult, but the coursework was rather easy, I only used the book for HW assignments. The slides cover all of the material. Good professor overall, she developed the course.
Tough subject for those that have no interest in the database field. She makes time for her students and answers e-mails rather quickly. I didn't buy the book, but used my friends when I needed it. I recommend taking her.
She is one of the most helpful and kind professors you'll ever have! She is very quick at answering emails and is very accommodating. While databases may not be for everyone, the course isn't too challenging and gets easier as it goes along. The tests are mostly multiple choice and the project is much easier than it looks. TAKE HER!
Good teacher and very helpful. She loves her job. Always responses quickly on emails. The bad thing is Database is personal boring to me. So this was just an requirement class. I ended up getting a C. I do recommend to do the extra credit. Some of the information are available online to learn. Good luck!
Fantastic professor; responds to e-mails quickly and keeps the class engaging. One of the best professors I've had during my stay at Mason. Assignments and exams require a little bit of preparation, so be prepared to spend a little time reviewing concepts if you expect to do well in this course.
Great teacher. She really loves her job and wants her students to understand the material. Funny and witty. Keep up with the workload and it'll be fine.
Amount of homework and quizzes is insane.
Dr. Rytikova is the nicest and most caring professor! She is the course coordinator for IT214 so she knows what she is doing. If you have a choice, you should definitely take 214 with her. I have never had a teacher who consistently replies back to emails within 45 minutes. Her dedication is amazing!
Shes hotttt!!!!! and she keeps you motivated! She has so much energy that makes database programming exciting.
She's a very passionate professional, and it's an inspiration to most AIT undergrads. With that said, don't expect an easy ride on the classes she teaches. You should read the class material before class, and closely pay attention to all her explanations on the subject. Tests aren't easy!
I enjoy taking her class. she's very attractive yet very well educated. I missed less than 1 point towards b-. but of course she took care of me. thank you!.. database is the best!
Professor Rytikova is incredibly dedicated to her students. There aren't enough professors of her caliber teaching, she's seriously that good. The amount of homework will make you sad but it is essential to master the concepts of database programming. I have considered changing my concentration to database because I loved her class so much.
She is honestly the best professor I have had yet and I would take her again and again if I could.
Class is very easy if you do what she says. Pleasant to be around. Tries her best to make the dull course content interesting
She's the course coordinator for this class and is very strict. She has a Russian accent. Expect lots of homework that might be easy or confusing and long. Expect many quizzes and a limit of five minutes for ten questions on bb. Tests are hard. There's a project that's two parts. She goes the full length of lectures which are three hours long.
I took the alt learning section, taught by her & Dr. Boicu, don't recommend it unless you can teach yourself. This course isn't hard, I was just in a section where we did group work & didn't get much out of lectures. A LOT OF WORK (hw, projects, quizzes, projects, & test). But, so much Extra Credit in this course!! She is good though, email queen!
Database isn't an easy class. Pay attention to lectures, take good notes and make sure you know the definitions. Tests are multiple choice but tough. Know the material. Every class we had something to submit be it homework or a screen shot of what we were working on that day. If you plan on skipping make sure you get that screen shot.
Dr. Rytikova is by far the BEST professor I've ever had!! She's super passionate about databases and is an excellent lecturer. She goes out of her way to make sure you understand the material and answers her emails at lightning speed. She clearly loves her job and her students - I wish she could teach all of my classes!!!
I took the alternative hybrid learning course that Dr. Rytikova teaches with Dr. Boicu. Both are good professors, but the learning environment was horrible. Large class, no clear instructions, stress over turning in class exercises that weren't simple. LOTS of work (quizzes, projects, etc.) I would definitely recommend taking other 214 professors.
SOOOO much work in this class, I do not recommend taking her class. Information was just thrown at the students without given clear instructions or examples. Everything in the class was a competition to get extra credit, without proper explanation of the answer.
Any James Bond fans here? If so, if you take the class that is taught by both Rytikova and Boicu, you are in for a treat. They both remind me of Boris Grishenko, and Natalia Siminova from Goldeneye. They even look similar as well!
amazing professor who's passionate and a fun person too. This is not a hard class to me, especially if you have prior programming basics (anything helps). But if not, I still think mysql command's straightforward. First half of the class might be harder - figure out relationships and diagrams. quite heavy workload but manageable.
Stay away from this class. Too many assignments, practice problems , research paper and quiz every week which has very less weightage towards final grade. The course structure is not well organized. First 10 weeks of the semester you won't learn much because only ER diagram and select statement is taught.
She is one of the greatest professors I had met. There were assignment and online quiz every week, but it was easy to get high grades. There were two parts for the midterm and the final exams, choice questions and database/SQL queries designing. But the classes were always delayed by practice problems for about half an hour.
Probably the worst class I have taken in my education career. Imagine taking five classes and then the 4 of the classes have combined less homework than this one class. Despite being heavy on homework, their total weight on the final grade sucks. 55% of the grade is from midterm and final and the average was B- or less .
This class is heavy on assignments/PPs, discussions, and quizzes. Though, if you put for effort here, you'll have no issues come test time. The quizzes use the same bank as the tests, so redo those for the MC part. If you also have a good understanding of how to work through the PPs, the tests aren't bad. Make sure to do the extra credit.
Dr. Rytikova is one of my favorite professors! You can tell she cares a lot about her students and databases. The classes themselves were great. She was always very clear in her explanations and flexible by offering lots of bonus points. As long as you complete the homework assignments, you'll do well in the class.
Great professor but lots of assignments! Each week there's a hw quiz and 2 assignments. Do all of the extra hw bonus bc it goes toward exams! Midterm and final have part 1(MC) and part 2 (written). For the MC, study the hw quizzes or find a Quizlet set. Can turn in late hw up to 48 hours after the due date for 80% credit. Make time for this class!
Lots of weekly assignments, but manageable if you stay on top of it. Try Unstuckstudy for helpful study prep along with the textbook. Exams are tricky but doable with practice.
The professor: Explains concepts well Cares about your learning and will support you the best she can. Will ensure proficiency with RDB design and SQL. The course: Tons of reading! (I had to spend 10-12 hours per week just on reading) Hands-on and interactive Tips: Learning Quests require at least an hour to get 100%. Don't procrastinate on it!
The professor is very knowledgeable, however the class is extremely assignment heavy. The tests make up a majority of your grade. Overall you teach yourself everything, and the assignments quickly and constantly go from conceptual to extremely advanced. Stay away if you have a full time job or other responsibilities. The TA also grades everything.
This is an excellent course for database design and management. The professor held weekly review sessions to go over the material and answer questions. Although the workload consists of a lot of assignments, it is worthwhile. I highly recommend redoing the Learning Quests until you achieve a perfect score, as an aid in exam preparation.
