Yes, the class may be a tad boring at times, but if you listen, you find that the topics are really interesting after all. He was quite funny in my opinion. Word of advice: To do well, all you have to do is listen.

Professor Altman is one laid back guy. His class is NOT what you think about ethical issues, it is more like a summary of the more important philosophers across time. He would have forgot to give tests had no one said anything. Although it was kind of a boring class, it was pretty easy if you could stay awake to keep notes. But, Ira is nice guy.

Oh my gawd, this guy Kant do wrong. An effective and powerful speaker. He respects his students and provides thorough answers to their questions. Probably the best prof at SCCC. Take any class you can. You won't be disappointed.

One of the kindest men I have ever met, especially for someone of his academic stature. He was generous both with his time and knowledge and greatly facilitated our learning of the myriad prisms of philosophy. Highly recommended. Oh..and did I mention he's a real hottie!

No one questions that he is a very nice, interesting, intelligent man. That being said, it is the most boring class you will ever take. Seriously. Lectures word for word from his book. If you can sit through all the monotone lectures, take the class b/c only 2 tests MC. He grades generously and is sweet.

I took his class last semester. It was long and boring. I brought my laptop to it every time. However, all you need is the textbook and just study a little, you'll be fine. He curves a lot and even though he's probably amazing at whatever he does, he realizes that not everyone is meant to take philosophy.

He's alriteee. Very smart man so he talks the wholeeee class does not EVER stop for a breath. You dont really have to pay attention, no homework, midterm and final only. Midterm was 20 multiple choice. He's not bad just very boring and curves A LOT. Also drops the lowest grade.

I absolutely adore him. He is unbelievably intelligent but doesn't lord it over you. He's kind and gentle - a true philosopher...and sooo cute.

When you listen to him lecture, you feel as though you're in the presence of greatness. He's like a reincarnation of Socrates, but much better looking. Some students don't like him because he has us question our assumptions (especially our political views) and that makes some students extremely uncomfortable because he's a very skilled debater.

What can I say that hasn't already been said? I concur w/ all those who say Altman's the best there is, INCONTROVERTIBLY!

Unfortunately if you're not interested in the subject of the course he teaches, the class and his lectures will be extremely boring. BUT, as a professor he is a wonderful and EXTREMELY INTELLIGENT person. He is also very caring and helpful to his students. A truly great guy!

This guy bored me to tears. He loves the sound of his own voice, reads straight from the book and basically talks in circles. With that said, take him. Good time to get work done for other classes. I do it all the time. You can even leave class early. Just take him.

He was truly one of the best!Philosophy is not an easy class, but he made it super clear. One of his textbooks is a compilation of his own lecture notes. I highly recommend this profesosr. He is hands down the best.

For example, the differences between right & wrong, good & evil, and justice & injustice. Midterm and final are both 20 multiple choice questions. 1 term paper and cupolas of assignments for extra credits.

Literally he's the greatest philosophy teacher I ever expected. He even made me consider minoring in philosophy. (Crazy right?) Take him for whatever class you can that he teaches. I took philosophy 110 with altman because i heard he was the most interesting professor at Iona. Long story short- HE IS! This class literally changed my life, it made me reexamine every aspect of my existance- Amazing class

Altman is a great lecturer. He will overexplain everything, but still keep it relatively interesting. If you have trouble understanding the concepts that he goes over, than it's not him... it's you. Go to every lecture that you can and at least read his online notes.

Superb class. Professor Altman is an excellent teacher; he presents the material extremely clearly, he is great with helping out if you have questions, exams and papers aren't that difficult, and he is a fair grader. Lectures are interesting and entertaining -- he has a good sense of humor. Not your typical philosophy class. Highly recommended!
