He is such a good instructor. He really know what he is talking about! :) I plan to take more of his classes next quarter.
If you would like to learn a great deal, you have good attendance habits, and like A's (for your final grade), take this class. Get involved in class. I took the series (101, 102, 103) and I wish I could take more.
this is an easy class, but you learn a lot too. be sure and have good attendance. two of the tests are take home. the lectures can run long and sometimes be boring but you really can get a lot out of it.
Either the best teacher in the school or one of them. Does a great job of educating people and also you enjoy the subject matter.
Tgis is a good all around professor.
WHINER WHINER WHINER he needs to be a dignified man and stop whining and being a victim
This man is from Middle East but hates the people form there. He thinks he is always right and when you try to debate, he gets angry and upset. He enjoys his position of authority and that’s wrong for a teacher whose goal is to teach students. DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY’S CLASS
Fun kid.
I thought that this was a very good professor. I honestly can't figure out where all of the animosty is coming from. He is not only very knowledgable about the subject but he has a unique point of view and he is an easy grader.
Don’t take this guy's class. He might be easy, but he won't teach you anything. He’s got some issues that he needs to work on. Two take home test worth 60 points. 10 points for participation and other 30 points is final. As you can see, he has the power of giving you from D to A. save your GPA!
Great teacher! Don't believe the other reviews. There are a few barriers just because hies not from the US (sometimes hard to understand). But I learned a lot and still had a lot of fun! I look forward to more classes from him. the only legit "complaint" people have given is he is too easy. They thi
This class is not worth taking. He won’t teach you anything. He is good to ones that accept his ideas. If you want to think critical and expand your horizon by questioning his ideas you will be shut down. He is irrational regarding people’s thoughts.
Don't take his class!
I do not understand why BCC keeps instructors like him?!?!?! He has a very bad attitude and he is not knowlegable. Quit Teaching IRAJ!!!
Disregard all the negative feedback. Despite all the previous poli-sci classes, I still learned. He knows a lot, and we can learn so much. Discussions make the class very interesting and interactive. He is not into favoritism, so quit saying who he should support or not. Good for serisous students.
THis Class sucks dont take it
Well, I don't know if I learned anything or not... except for the fact that there are a lot of people in his classes that can't engage in conversation...
Speaks very fast, difficult to keep up with. However, interested in his own subject which is good. Doesn't like to write assignments on board, doesn't have a website for assignments which makes it difficult to keep track of what he's REALLY assigning. Plus keeping track of the names and such when he's speaking so fast and wants you to research them, but won't tell you how to spell them. DOES check email, which is helpful.

He is intelligent, he just expects everyone else to know just as much as he does from the start. He makes a lot of empty threats to the class. Tests would be hard if they were not take home.
He is very intellegent. If you listen, you learn. He wants to help everyone, that is why his tests are takehome and he tries to relate with students. He wants everyone to succeed in his class and if you want to put all your money into a college course class, then LISTEN TO HIM!! Have respect for him, and he gives it right back.
He is a wonderful teacher. He makes class interesting and is very excited about what he is teaching!
Hard to learn from, didn't talk about what the class was supposed to be about, gets upset for no obvious reason, gives out wrong information and never really answers the questions asked. Don't take this class!!!
If you truly want to learn, take this class. He knows his stuff! Sometimes he gives data that is unclear, but if you approach him after class, he is willing to help you.
Great instructor if you are interested in learning the material. Take home tests, easy assignments...just study for the final and you will do fine!
Bad teacher. He was pissed off all the time, and he hates Americans. If you talk to him about it he will deny it, and then get pissed off because he doesn't like americans. He only knew half of what he was talking. Though I got a b+ I would not recommend this class to anyone.
He is probably the worst teacher I have ever had. He spent most of the class spouting his political views, many of which I agree, but still not all that interesting. When you challenge him, he gets angry. I think he's a brilliant man and probably was a great teacher at one time, but he seems angry and jaded.
This guy is all over the place. Certain days you'll love the class, others you want to storm out. He'll assign something to the class, say its due on a certain day, and then not collect it for a few weeks. completely unorganized! ps-Don't interrupt him during his lecture unless you want the rath of hell.
He is a very smart man and he is NOT angry like evryone thinks. You can get a good grade in his class AND learn something if you just listen. He does not really like it when people ask him stupid questions, but who does? But he was really unclear about assignments and I was always afraid people would be rude and cause him to get upset.
Take home midterms-but they are pretty hard, even with the textbook and internet as resources. Presentation of material is a little dull (power points and a lot of him talking) Wants people to participate, but then tells them their opinions are wrong.
Agree with most other comments. He has a good knowledge of the subject, but he seemed just as eager to talk about current events as he was teaching American Government...I thought he got off topic way too much. Therefore alot of the learning was on my own with the book.
The lectures were pretty boring. Take home midterms were hard. Class participation encouraged, and he has you do a few assignments that don't go into the gradebook whatsoever.
I thought that Dr. Paydar had a problem with me within the first few days of class because I felt he was ignoring my questions in class. When I confronted him about it I learned this was not the case at all but my own poor perception. He is an excellent instructor. I only wish he was free to express his own oppion without fear of reprocution.
Hate this guy really bad, as did a majority of my class, his accent is annoying though understandable, but he has some odd views on the subject, and tends to relate a lot of things to the Middle East and Iran. I wouldn't take him again because by the end of the course I hated showing up, he goes off on a lot of tangents if you can avoid his class.
As a 39 year old finance professional for a billion $$ company, I was completely disappointed at the complete lack of professionalism displayed by Mr. Paydar. He frequently berated students for such stupid things as accusing them of not taking enough notes and had frequent outbursts of anger. I highly recommend to all students to avoid his class.
Do not ever take a class with him!!! He was very unclear about assignments and overall just very vague and scattered. The other comments about his temper are kinda true, he doesn't like people to disagree with him at all.
This teacher is nothing but helpful. His clarity is amazing and he is very passionate about his country and world affairs. I would recommend him to everyone at BCC. I can't another one of his classes
I have had only a few teachers in the past that have been so passionate about their subject. Dr. Paydar is a encyclopedia of knowledge and I am very happy to have taken his class. His lectures are interesting and encourage debate. I like how he states his oppinion on different topics which most teachers refuse to do. Overall A++ !!
This guy doesn’t know anything about political science except its name. Total waste of time.
Friendly. Refers to all of his students as "my friend"
He's ok... will get offended really quick and will kick you out of class for smiling! Unclear about tests... first said it's a take home mid-term and then second time he punished the whole class because a few people didn't attend regularly. you MUST attend although he says otherwise because he gets pissed and then makes everything SUPER hard.
Liar liar, pants on fire! He had the whole class vote on taking the final at home. He swore to us that he would give it the day before due. Without explanation he changed his mind. Wait, he said he didn't remember that day. Don't take him, it's useless.
AWFUL TEACHER!! He will say he likes to laugh and have fun then keeps you after class if you do. He thinks that you are laughing about politics so basically sit there like a mute person for the whole hour! He is very knowledgable though and knows his stuff but it would definately help if he would teach it more effectively!
Don't take this teacher. Whether you are a good student or not, tt doesn't matter. You have to be lucky to get an A in this class. Very forgetfull. Puts things on the tests that are not in the book and are not in the reading. Avoid at all costs!
Ridiculous teacher. Tends to change what he says over a short space of time. Tests were impossible (for me at least) because we hadn't covered any of it in class. Most of the information had to be hunted for in the book or found on the internet. Choose a better teacher!
Easily offended and lashes out at students. I do not recall a time when he did not cut off a student while they were giving their opinions or asking questions. Does not know how to calculate grades at all. Tests are full of typos. expects you to know that they are typos, which makes it impossible to get the right answer unless you completely guess.
mr peydar is the best instructor i have ever had. he knows a lottt about political science and also sees it from different points of views. that makes the subject so much more interesting...
He was nice. What people are writing here comes from anger because he was a little unclear in the beginning and everyone expected to get free grades. I got an A. I attended class. I read, highlighted, made cards, etc. Pretty much, study and you'll enjoy him.
Horrible! Do not waste your time or energy!
I was extremely disappointed in Professor Paydar. Appears to know a lot about political science and history, but spent so much time having outbursts of rage and talking about how horrible our generation is he never had time to share it. Spent most of the time blabbing about is opinion and never once invited debate or discussion.
He's a very nice guy, can get upset about tardiness and people taking advantage of his lax policies. Very intelligent man, class is run very well. Did take home tests and in depth review. He can be a bit confusing about dates, but tends to let you turn things in anyway if you were confused. It's a very easy class, I missed 3 weeks (mono), got a B+
maybe if kids these days were more respectable this guy wouldnt feel the need to be a jerk. if you find yourself in the situation that all of these negative reviewers have, establish your interest in the subject with him in private over a cigarette and your golden. it doesnt hurt to study occasionally
Professor Paydar is extremely fair and accomadating teacher, he works hard at helping students and making course material interesting and helpful to students. He's a very nice man, and is willing to answer questions for students whenever possible
I think if you have a immature approach to educatin (don't want to do the readings before class, miss lectures, don't want to think about topics) then, you will not enjoy this class. Dr. Peydar is highly stimulated by genuine interest and commited action. Bottom line- if you don't put in an honest effort, you don't have the right to complain period
He is very interested in his subject matter, I took us goverment from him and even though he did not nessisarily stay on topic, he lectured passionatly and really knew what he was talking about. He will argue with you if you don't agree with his ideas, but he wont let that effect your grade. Be nice to him, he deffinatly picks favorites. Very fun.
Needs to get off his soapbox and actually teach. Spends most of his time ranting about how horrible humanity is and how everything would be better if we all just got along. Gets mad when he is corrected on facts. Only reason you need to go to class is to try and decipher what assignments he wants you to turn in and when. Read the book, get an A.
Very bad teacher. Unorganized, lectures often have nothing to do with text. Says he welcomes opinions then argues against anything you say. Has knowledge of his topics, but will get off on a rant about random things every day. Boring because of meaningless lectures. Tests have been take home, but his inconsistencies cause us to get wrong answers.
Iraq Paydar absolutley ruined the BCC experience for me and many countless others. The first day of class he emphasised that he is completely unbiased and will accept everyones oppinions. He shut everyone down that didn't agree with him. Not to mention everything that he argued about or even talked about had nothing to do with political science.
I learned absolutly nothing in Paydar's class. All three of his test (75 percent of grade) were take home test, two of which were automatic 100 percents. I can't believe BCC would let a teacher like this ruin their amazing college.
Attendance was 25 percent of a student's grade, and it was based on how many days you missed according to a student. I told him an honest guess of 6 days missed and he said I had skipped at least 17. He said this after believing one of my friends ,who skipped three weeks in a row, that he had only missed 3 days in the entire quarter! Worst Teacher
AVOID IF POSSIBLE!!!! one of the worst, inconsiderate teachers I have taken. Overbears you with his opinions, dosent let you speak your opinion if he does not agree with it. I don't know why he is still teaching.
All i gotta say is that this prof knows his stuff.
paydar is a very interesting teacher, and he will crack you up, he has a high opinion on the American government, some people have rated him as an "American hater" but that is not him at all. he just has studied it for a while and he knows the ways it could be perfected. he shows his care for human kind a lot. and is very fair with tests, and absenc
mr.paydar is an interesting teacher, he really knows his stuff. he is fair with tests and attendence. i would recommend him(:
He knows political science very well but doesn't really know how to teach it. It was nice to have take home tests but being in class was super boring. I wouldn't really recommend him if you want to learn because all he does is lecture all of class.
I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Paydar?s American Government course. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about government. His lectures provide a perfect mixture between information from the book and events happening in our news today. I would recommend this class.
He is very passionate about politics. I can see how many students can misunderstand him, but it's really not a bad class. Lectures can go on tangents, but I learned a lot and I'm now really aware of politics today. I recommend this class.
Best teacher you will ever take and he is really cool. Go to class and ur fine and actually participate. Paydar=cool and A.
It is very easy to bump heads with Mr. Paydar, but it is also very easy to get along with the guy. He is brilliant, but also very opinionated. He says he is not biased but thats sort of some grey area. All you need to do is go to class and provide input in a respectful manner. I failed to do this at first but apologized and still received and A-.
Unfair grader. I attended class everyday and got good test scores and got a B+. The person sitting next to me got an A- and he skipped alot of days and got lower test scores.
He is a nice guy. He is very passionate about his job.Gives easy take home tests. The only thing is that you have to read articles about politics and explain in to class every Friday its terrible.
OMG THIS CLASS WAS SOOO BORING. He is the most liberal person i have ever met.. he hates republicans.. always rambles on about the weirdest things. I didnt learn one thing in this class. We had all take home tests.. but hey who is going to complain... easy A.. as long as you can do well on his take home tests..
I did NOT enjoy Paydar's class at all. He basically just spent the entire class period droning on about his opinions and does not accept any different viewpoints from his students- even though he makes it very clear that he is not opinionated- WHAT?? Attendance is mandatory, so if you can bear listening to him you can get a pretty good grade.
Mr. Paydar's class is not an easy A. He barely knows anyone's name and 25% of your grade is participation. One person in our class screwed us over by arguing with him and now the final is in class, which is 25% of the grade. If you need an easy A, take it with someone else.
He is a very talkative teacher but gets boring after a week. Some say he sounds like Dracula but that doesn't affect his teaching. He has take home test so you don't really have to go to class but 25% of your grade is participation so i recommend going to class. to get a good grade just read the book.
Very passionate about his work and his job. Very informative during his lectures. Just go to class and listen. Remember to read newspapers and you will love this class.
Paydar is the worst teacher I have ever had at BC. He is rude and unprofessional. He singles out individuals and verablly attacks them. His tests are impossible because they are opinionated. He will roll his eyes at you if you ask a question or even put his hand to your face and ignore you if you make an opposing agrument. Don't take his class.
He knows a lot about politics and gov but he's very liberal and expresses his views freely in class. He says he's not opinionated but he clearly is. He does single out individuals, so it would be in your best interest to stay on his good side. Participation is huge in his class; make sure to keep up on reading about politics!
Professor Paydar is not what most people say. He isn't crazy, he isn't annoyingly bias, or anything like that. What he is, is he's hard to understand, he tries to help, but often doesn't understand what you try to say to him. He assigns a lot of reading, talks quietly quite often such that you must sit in front and be spat on by him to hear.
very easy class. probably one the easiest i've had at BC. yes he has his views and goes off on random tangents, but hes an old man and thats what old ppl do. just make sure to keep up on political news and participate. tests were take home exams and he kindly boosts your grade if youre failing. boring lectures though.
Pydar is hands down the worst professor I have ever experienced and I've attended a few colleges. 1st his way or the highway, 2nd he knows it all (or so he perceives himself as genus "suspect") 3rd he doesnt clarify anything especially on his take home test (take home test... Easy right? I typed 9 pages and received a D on it) either google screwed me or I'm a terrible writter, 4th can't understand 90% of what he says. I've never complained about a teacher but this one should come with a warning
I have taken more then one class with Paydar. Looking at these comments, he may not seem like the most attractive option. However, I disagree. Make sure you keep up with current events. The way to decide to take his class is this: If you are passionate with politics he will like u and u will love his class, otherwise do not take it!
Extremely easy-going, very outspoken. His teaching style isn't the best though, and he doesn't try to get to know his students.
SLOW, BORING, YET INFORMATIVE
Paydar. A wizard in his own right. A legend. His ever changing polo shirts will leave you in awe. I didn't even know what things like "bullyism" and "republicans" were before this class, Paydar has shown a light of knowledge on my being. And, most importantly, he is NOT. BIASED.
He's definitely a very smart man, however he was not meant to be a teacher. He will usually start out his class saying how he is not biased and then continue to bash republicans. While I do actually agree with his opinions, it's still frustrating when you're trying to learn what's on the test.
Paydar isn't generally given enough credit. He really is a very smart man, and though his rants can sometimes get a little boring, they're generally interesting to listen to.
I picture him bald to stay awake in his class. He is a human encyclopedia, ask him anything and he will tell you. Keep asking to stay awake and keep him on topic.
Not as bad as people say! he's passionate and willing to help if you don't understand. He's kind and loves to get to know any student that talks to him. However, his tests are brutal. I wouldn't take his class again because I can't handle them. theres only 3 and theyre very specific so its hard to study for them. love the class, didnt do well.
his exams are no longer take-home. mainly because he wants the students to actually pay attention, his exams are very hard and for the first one he expected us to memorize all the vocab because he enjoys seeing students fail and then asking him to bump up their grade. he picks on the same people everyday because he knows they don't have the answer
Everyday he does a slideshow presentation and the only thing to do is copy it as he babbles on and on. The 3 tests are HARD and that's the only grade in the class you will get, except I don't know how he enters it in since he doesn't know anyone's name! I do not recommend this class...probably 95% of the time I was spacing out. But he's a nice guy!
Mr. Paydar really likes to rant. I just got out of his class on the day before the final, and he spent half the class talking about the Cuban Missile Crisis. It's not relevant at all to his presentation. He talks a lot about random things that aren't directly related. All you gotta do is take good notes and you'll be fine.
He talks the whole period, but says little of value and I never used the notes from his presentations. He gave us the questions from the tests so we could memorize the answers, the majority of which were found in the text book. When asked a question 80% of the time he didn't give a direct or helpful answer.
His class is really easy if you follow his lectures. He says participation is mandatory for 25% of your grade, but never really checks attendance (we have nametags). The reason why many students don't seem to like him is b/c of his strong political views. But he's a good guy at heart, so don't feel intimidated. Easy A & interesting class!
Glad I took his class. Glad it's over. Tips to incoming students for winter quarter: Read the book while he lectures to better understand what he's lecturing about. He expects you to have already read, but no one in my class ever did so they were left confused the entire time. Confusion breads contempt, so immerse yourself in the book to learn lots
He is a very opiniated teacher with strong political views. His lectures often had little to do with the coursework but were really interesting to listen to. Participation and attendence is very important in his class. If you show an active interest in your grade and talk to him about it, you will get a high B to an A. He's a very nice guy. :)
He is a very boring teacher, doesn't really teach on the course content at all. He is extremely opinionanited and he has very strong political views. He strongly disagrees and gets angry when you speak up about something he disagrees with. He believes in the democrats and won't even begin to believe that the Republicans are right. Overalla bad prof
Good Class. Do book work a head of time and it will help in class. Keep an open mind. Simple as that, thats all he seems wants his students to do. Listen, learn, share and take in ideas to create your own. He is an opinionated teacher but so what! We all have our opinions and he tells you why he has his-That doesn't mean you have agree. Nice Man.
GREAT TEACHER! TAKE THIS CLASS...you have 3, 50 multiple choice test spread out over the quarter. Paydar is super nice and willing to help as long a you show up and participate.
Good Class. 25% of his class is participation/attendance. The other 75% is equally divided into three 50 multiple choice question tests. Yes they are multiple choice but they are HARD. Do your work and study. He's great, just ask if you have any ?s
Terrible class. All he does is rant about whatever is happening right now and doesn't spend much time actually explaining government. Leaves you with a loose understanding of the subject. Just spend most of your time in the book and you can zone out in class.
Really easy and boring instructor. When he talks about Government, he then zones-out and talks about his personal life sometimes. Skipping class is bad, obviously. But really, if you want to skip this class, you can. But not TOO often. He takes attendance every 1 every week or so (But often gets sidetracked). Overall, bad teacher!
Paydar is someone who definitely knows a lot about what he's teaching. The class is mostly him lecturing/ranting on political issues but they're interesting and he is very knowledgeable about what he's talking about. Although the class can get a little bit boring he's a good professor.
Nice guy to smart for his own good. Good intentions but pretty boring. Can't teach to save his life but lectures are interesting... Sometimes. Don't bring up gun control. Or disagree with him because he will hate you and you'll never be right
Middle eastern politics and society class. He gets really emotional about his subjects and takes attendance personally when students don't attend class regularly. He is unclear about assignments its ridiculous, you basically have to guess what the requirements are. It is generally an easy class but you definitely need an open mind taking this class
Paydar is an awesome professor. He seems really dedicated to politics and knows a LOT about it and what he's talking about. He is very passionate about what he teaches and though he can get riled up it's only because he really wants you to see how important politics is to know about in our life. I'm glad I took this class with him!
It's great to see a teacher so passionate and knowledgeable about what he's teaching. you must be warned though: he is extremely opinionated, and doesn't seem to even realize himself rudely bashing ideas he doesn't agree with. Attend class, participate, turn your work in, and you'll do fine.
Professor Paydar was such an awesome teacher, and i'm glad I took his class. His passion for government made the class interesting to take. The assignments he gave us were relevant and helped to understand the topics we were learning about a lot more. I enjoyed this class a lot.
Mr Paydar was very well informed in the topics we discussed and taught the whole class about many issues in politics and the world in general. He goes above and beyond to educate you about world issues and the truth about the political world. You have to put in the effort and come to class but it is worth it.
Paydar was a really cool guy who definitely knew a lot about what he was talking about. His tests were take home which was awesome and he was a cool guy to talk to. I would definitely recommend his class.
The class is interesting, the subject is interesting, but this professor is extremely opinionated. DO NOT ARGUE WITH HIM or bring up gun laws, even if it is a current issue. He often disregards lectures completely and just talks about current issues, and if you bring this up, he yells at you. He is a good prof, and is very passionate.
Paydar was probably one of the most knowledgeable professors i've ever met and you can tell that he actually has a passion for what he's teaching. He was a nice guy once you got to know him and the classwork was just the right amount. This was a great class and I plan on taking another class with him when I can.
all the notes he gives is everything in the book so no point in reading it.. you need it for chapter reviews though. he's really boring, lectures all day about current issues. Says he's not bias but totally is so yeah don't give your opinion unless your agreeing with him.
Really smart teacher, very passionate on this subject. Very liberal, and don't disagree with him, says he likes it, actually doesnt.
I like his class very much. He has a lot of opinions, but it is POLS. Great professor. I like taking my Mid Terms home. I agree with him that Bush was a bad president.
He is an intellectual individual. I enjoy his lectures, and taking the test home is amazing. Keep up the good work professor Paydar.
Paydar is extremely smart. His lectures are interesting, although they can be a little boring sometimes. The assignments are pretty minimal, but always remember to cite your sources. I would recommend this instructor to anyone that is willing to pay attention. Class participation is encouraged. I love love love the take home exams.
He is very smart and always have evidences and sources to back up his claims. All the assignments are pretty good. He doesn't want to stress the students out. Very passionate man, Very like his words.
Easily my favorite professor at BC. Despite what he says, Paydar is extremely knowledgeable about Middle Eastern history. And while he's not going to let you slack off, if you do well he will let you know. Just don't get him started on Islamic fundamentalists. He HATES them.
He is really knowledgeable in POLS. He is very liberal, but even if you don't agree with his opinions, still speak up, just be prepared to defend your thoughts. As long as you participate and discuss in class, almost guaranteed an A. Tests are all take-home, including the final, USE THE TEXTBOOK for tests!
Professor Paydar's class is straight forward. He promotes student interaction by group and class discussions. He encourages & empowers students to give their opinion in politics by homework he assigns.(Read an article or watch the news) Read each chapter prior to the lecture, show up to class,& participate and you will do fine! PARTICIPATION IS KEY!

his class was interesting. the instructor is very clear in the way toexplain the material. hi is not teaching to complicate student but to make sure students understand the materials that is apply in real world. he is very open, very helpful but he don't like student who not show the interest for the material. overall he is a great instructor.
I ook intro to political philosophy. Love his take-home tests, got 100% on all. Show up to class and DON'T BE LATE. He makes it seem like he is going to PICK a grade based on your participation, even though the syllabus states that it's 25% midterm, 25% midterm, 25% final, 15% assignments, and 10% participation. Quarter ends this week, so we'll see
His is a good teacher. All exams and final was take home. It's not a very hard class as long as you pay attention and participate. But when you participate be ready to back it up with facts or sources. Sometimes he can be rude if you say something he doesn't agree with. I learned a lot from him. If you don't come to class he takes points away.
All take home tests and also he gives you a week to complete it. IT'S A MUST TO SHOW UP TO CLASS ... and always remember to look for current events everyday because he might randomly call on you. He is very into on what he is teaching and provide many short video clips to watch.
I instantly felt like Paydar was my grandpa. He has this wonderful interest in what he does, and is very passionate. He lectures quite a bit, especially in the beginning of the quarter, but he makes it interesting. I have learned so much after taking this class. Make sure to participate, and use common sense (don't be late, don't argue pointlessly)
He can be rude at times, and brings his personal life and opinions into the lecture every single time. Overall he is a great teacher!! I would take him again! Pretty harsh grader if you do not attend his class (oops). Doesn't give grades back quick enough, but thats my only complaint.
be prepared to participate a ton. lots of reading but sometimes you can get by if you pretend like you know what you tlk about
He is very passionate but often the evoirnment feels uncomfortable and hostile. Sharing your thoughts and Ideas Should be easy But they have to agree with what he believes. If you already know a lot about politics, history and current events then this class would be interesting to further understand. If you need it for credit, find another teacher
DON'T take this class. he begs you to share your opinion in class, yet if any part is opposing his side, he interrupts and bashes on you. asks you if you were absent, doubts you when you say no. textbook is very overpriced and didn't even open it in class, BUT, its a MUST HAVE for the take-home midterms (2, then final)
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS! Textbook: $175 for 2 uses! Teacher: Horrible grader and talks so much you think the class is never going to end. You literally sit through 10 minutes and think he's been talking for an hour. NO EXAGGERATION. He interrupts you no matter what you say, and if you argue with him, YOU ARE IN FOR SOME TROUBLE, screaming trouble.
Not much work, but completely unorganized about them. No canvas account, only a printed syllabus. If you want to do well on the final READ THE BOOK. A lot of the final is only from the book not from class. However, again, only a few assignments. If you can do them well, you should be good. Beware the final. Other than that, a good classteacher.
He was very insightful and when I took the class he always spoke from both sides of the political spectrum. I also liked how he helped me learn to research things thoroughly and really stressed to research things before you make a judgment about them. Textbook is used at home for the reading never in class.
Wow this was the worst class I have ever taken. All of the tests were take home so basically if you show up for credit you pass. But the bad thing is you have to sit through his lectures. He talks a lot but says nothing. He seems to forget his points before he finishes his sentences. Basically avoid at all costs.
He's an alright of a teacher. It was a bit hard understanding what he wanted. If you are there everyday you should be fine but if you skip here and there you can miss the most important thing. He loves examples and broad answers in the papers. I passed with a B and totally thought I might fail, honestly.
He is a great professor! I don't understand why some student were being so rude to him. I had a great experience in his classes this quarter and received an A . I recommend all running start students to take his class instead of online
I took Paydar a while back and let me just say, easiest A ever. If you show you are interested and ask him for help he will , and you better show up to class or else dont expect to pass. The assignments were all easy and he would give extra time. Just do the assignments and dont argue , you show be fine!
So glad I took Paydar for Polys202. His lectures can get boring but he's passionate about the material. Show up to class, take notes, participate, and you'll pass. Take home tests and a one page paper are the only actual assignments you have which lightens the stress load. Try to keep up w/ the political world outside of class too. Read the book!
Very passionate about political science! I actually learned a lot from this teacher! Lectures can be long, but his passion makes up for it. Quizzes are take home, which is helpful for this who have a heavy work load. Good teacher, would take again. Just show up to class and don't take advantage of anything.
Very nice teacher, values attendance. Take home tests took a lot of stress away, wrote a paper after having to watch a documentary. He has a lot of good things to say.
Paydar is an amazing teacher who is very passionate about the material. He does have a habit of speaking his mind on things. Generally he stays away from expressing his own political opinions in class. A few homework assignments, documentary, and 1 take home test. He will retire in Spring 2016 so he doesn't really care anymore so easy A.
3 mid-terms, 1 final. He stopped doing take home but sometimes changes his mind. Very passionate and doesn't try to force his opinions. Very clear that he's trying to analyze others rather than express himself. Expects student to pay attention to many if not all events that happen. Book is good for clarification but he covers it well in class.
Dr. Paydar was an amazing teacher. He is the best teacher I took at Bellevue College. He understands the topic and does an amazing job of teaching it. His examples are concise and his spirits are high. As an immigrant by the name of Mohammad, he treated me fairly. I loved Dr. Paydar, he was fair to all people, regardless of sex or race. I loved it.
SHOW UP FOR CLASS. He cares more about attendance than anything else. You can just show up to class and play on your laptop and he wouldn't care.
Easy class, however, if you skip class, you will for sure miss information needed for classwork or participation. He wants to incorporate a new system, where students will be the one asking him questions (to make the chapters faster), but I do not think that will speed things up. Everyone would be asking questions, taking up the class. Great class!
Not sure why people hate him... Mr. Paydar is a nice teacher who values your attendance and thoughts. Sometimes he will shout in class but that's because he is passionate about politics. If you come to class everyday and pay attention you will learn a lot about the government. I would recommend this teacher.
At the beginning he was one of my favorite teachers, he's very passionate, funny, a fun teacher to have. The best thing was that he understood work load, I could sit in class not worrying about test, and for once participate and understand the American government. Now he says in class test because some people who dont show up. Now im regretting it
I loved this class at the beginning of the quarter but now he is making us take tests in class. The take home tests really help me understand the course materials better. I wish he wouldn't make the whole class suffer because he's angry at a few people.
This professor was inspiring at the beginning of the quarter, however now the in-class tests are confusing. You are only graded for 3 tests and 1 paper. There is not much time to take the tests. He seems to be very angry at everyone. I regret taking this class.
Dr. Paydar is amazing. I don't understand why everyone is saying such rude things. He is fair and kind. I am in class every day and take notes and had no problem with the test. Would take again
Love Dr. Paydar. Hate the kids in the class. They are so rude. They never show up and complain the whole time. He has been very fair and considerate of the students. He is passionate and I have learned quite a bit. Happy I took this class and enjoyed the lectures.
Great teacher. Frustrating class. Wish the last test were just normal multiple choice.
The beginning of the quarter went exactly what I was expecting. Attendance required, lecture heavy, take-home tests. Iraj should really start taking attendance as I notice he is giving consequences as a whole rather to those that do not show up. With this procedure, he will be informed on who does not show up to class and give them the consequence.
JUST TAKE ATTENDANCE! The few that do not show up are giving the hardest time to the whole class. Tests will no longer be take-home because of the few, and we will now be writing essays.
Paydar wants you to succeed and always puts in extra effort to specify and prove his points. I would highly recommend taking his class, but one downside was that everyday is just lecturing for a whole hour. I get that he is teaching the subject, but group work/projects may make the class more interesting and may get more people participating.
Dr. Paydar was the best thing since sliced bread. He is the peanut butter to my jelly. He is passionate about his teaching and he teaches very well. My only tip is that you should focus more on what he is saying rather than taking notes on the powerpoint alone. Tests are fairly easy, don't talk bad about my man Paydar.
Mr. Paydar is a pretty solid teacher. He is very knowledgeable and knows extremely well what he is talking about. Sometimes he can become enraged for no apparent reason, and, is politically biased although he says he is not. I took POLS 202, and it was a good experience. If you show up to class everyday and take notes, you will get an A.
Hands down, Paydar is the worst prof I have ever had. He graded the one essay we wrote in class without a rubric and always thought students were arguing with him. Disobeyed FERPA law multiple times, not up to date with technology, and doesn't give handouts or written instruction and insists that he does so because "this generation doesn't listen."
Paydar is very opinionated and he talks during the whole class about what he thinks. Sometimes he gets very angry and heated about the current government situations. His class is strictly lecture every day and then three tests throughout the quarter. He used to have take home tests, but he made them in-class recently. I did not enjoy this class.
His lectures are based on facts, applied to real life examples. Taking notes during class is vital. A lot of content is not online you only get one chance to write it down. Does not use any online teaching aid (Canvas).
I love this class! Payday is a sold prof who's super knowledgeable. He's opinionated, but his opinions are all rooted in fact and he doesn't force his opinions on others. The class is really easy and interesting. Pay attention and you'll be fine.
Though I am not saying the user that posted the rating that he is opinionated is wrong, because that might have been the experience they had, but he could not be less opinionated. He offers both sides to every "opinion" he states and makes it very clear that he is not saying which side he agree's on. Wonderful class and teacher, I highly recommend.
Mr. Paydar is an excellent instructor- teaches the material clearly and makes sure the class understands it. If you attend every day and keep up with the material, it's an easy A and even fun class to take.
Lectures are pretty straight forward, as long as you read and participate in class its an easy A, he gives 3 take home tests and a one page paper, very willing to help.
All i learned was donald trump banned npr and court cases and delagates and scholars in the back what are your thoughts
He is an amazing professor and really wants his students to succeed and learn. It's an easy A, tests are take home. If I could take his class again I would! Highly recommend!
If you are someone who respect passionate people, definitely take him.. I didn't do all the work he told us to do but I sat front row and really tried to pay attention to what he was saying. He cares so much so if you're clearly not even trying, he won't be happy.. He LOVES participation so try to put yourself out there and ask questions!!
Horrible teacher, downright the worst teacher I've ever had. Shouts about his opinions all day long. Starts every class every day with a 20 minute shouting session on his opinions about politics. Regularly there will be an hour long shouting session about his opinions. Disrespectful and bigoted towards anyone else with a different opinion.
Professor Paydar was a really honest and efficient professor. Attendance was mandatory, and material was lectured very efficiently and eloquently. Although there were some heated moments, the professor never directly attacked a person due to their character, he only condemned policies and actions. He was a fair professor, judging both parties fair.
Literally just take home tests. show up to class, pretend to listen for an hour and occasionally do the reading. Preaches his own opinion a bunch and will to debate but, be prepared to argue if you disagree
