This teacher was recommended to me due to her usual take on the final exams (she doesn't do comprehensive ones). While she doesn't do a comprehensive exam, her usual section exams and routine quizzes (fill in the blank) can be tough. The quizzes may seem easy, she grades them pretty hard; don't expect to get more than a B or C on them.

Attendance isn't mandatory however if you don't go it's up to you to keep up with present criteria. Quizzes are given every 1 - 2 weeks and are typically only over one chapter Good professor, hard quizzes, hard exams, no comprehensive exam

She's a great professor. She's really nice! She's there for you when you have questions and I was very impressed by how intelligent she was. Her tests are tough, you have to study the powerpoints and read the book a little bit everyday in order to do well. You can get an A but you have to work your butt off to get it. Great, clear lectures. Easy to understand. Always answers questions and is enthusiastic about the course. Uses many examples to explain things and is willing to repeat concepts. Provides everything you need online, no need for textbook unless you're going into Bio2. Communicates with students well with office hours and through email and blackboard.

Pretty standard course. As long as you go and participate in the lectures you will be fine. Some time outside of class will be needed to go over notes but if you pay attention in class you will not need to spend hours upon hours studying. Quizzes can be a little difficult because they are fill in the blank. Tests are easier than quizzes.

Prof. Bowen is AMAZING. She is so good at dumbing down the material. She explains everything to where even a ten year old could understand it, which is super helpful because this is a hard class (so much memorization involved and you must read the textbook & powerpoints). She is super sweet too and TRULY wants her students to succeed.

Basically, she's awesome! I had her for Lecture/Lab and is super passionate about her job! If you have any tangent questions regarding anything biological (and sometimes not) she goes out of her way to find the answers and sends out an email (super cool). Just make sure you pay attention and ask ANY (and all) questions!

Everything on the quizzes and exams are in the PPT slides, so DON'T BOTHER BUYING A TEXTBOOK! She urges people to ask questions and enthuses people by talking about interesting topics/facts that have relevance to the content matter. Also, she will make videos on YouTube for the days she can't come to class. CHOOSE HER AS YOUR PROFESSOR!!!!

I took Professor Bowen for BIOL 1406 for lab and lecture. Her labs were easy going and straight to the point. Lectures are well laid out so that it is easy to follow along and take good notes. Go in to office hours if you are confused. I went almost everyday and it helped my grade a lot.

Dr. Bowen was amazing. Hands down the best professor i ever had, was so disappointed to find out she doesn't teach any additional classes. She was lenient and willing to help if you just asked. Very engaged with her students, encouraged questions and didn't hesitate to clarify. Attendance not mandatory but if you don't show up, don't expect an A.

She is very passionate about what she teaches. She loves when students ask questions and is very good about answering them. I never used my textbook because all of the needed information is online. Also took her lab, and I loved it!

Absolutely LOVE Dr. Bowen! Currently in her class for the fall semester and I couldn't have been happier with my decision to take her class. Super helpful & is very passionate about what she's teaching. She explains things very well and even encourages questions after every few slides. You have to work hard, but you don't even need the textbook!

I'm taking her right now and she's amazing. She explains everything thoroughly, and is always willing to elaborate on the subject if you're confused. Take her! You will not regret it. I wish I could have taken her for Lab as well.. Btw, you don't need a book. It's all in the slide shows. She takes attendance, although I'm not sure if its 4 a grade

Dr. Bowen is such a great professor! I took her for both lab and lecture. She genuinely wants her students to succeed. She tries her absolute best. My Lab partner said she even responded to an email at 1:40am! She speaks clearly, teaching style is easy to follow and she's really nice. She posts so much helpful material online also. TAKE HER!!!

One of my favorite professors! She's very intelligent and knows what she's teaching. She loves when students ask questions in class too. Her quizzes are online and they are based off of her powerpoints and lectures. The only grades we had were quizzes and tests and sometimes an easy assignment!

She is one of the best professors I've had at Collin. She actually took her time with the material so much to the point she had to condense our last three chapters. This is good because I feel like I retained so much of the information through the semester. Most teachers tend to rush and you end up leaving class only knowing how to pass their test

Take her! Do not take anyone else. That is all... no really she wants you to grasp the material. her lab was great too! easy quizzes. hardest test was the Ch. 8-10, the cycles. go ahead and start learning the details on that now! Lots of easy assignments to keep your grade up. study reviews for tests and you'll make an A. Love her!

Dr. Bowen is an incredible Bio teacher! Her lectures are always organized and informational; she really explains difficult concepts in a way that is easy to understand. Quizzes are online. Tests are very fair and not overly difficult, but she expects you to know the material well enough to answer logic based questions. Take bio from Bowen!!!!

She is nice and knowledgeable. Quizzes is taken at home which are easy for me somehow even limited time. However, exams are difficult even I studied really hard. I would say easy B but you need to put time to study to get an A. Extra credits for each test (maximum 5 points/100 points). Drop the lowest one if the final exams is higher grade.

Dr. Bowen is an amazing professor. She takes her time to answer all questions clearly and carefully. Her lectures are very good and understandable. Biology is a hard class, so you obviously have to work for your grade. Online quizzes are pretty easy, but exams are difficult. Do the review questions that she gives you on CANVAS to study for tests.

I loved Dr. Bowen. I always went to her office hours before class and she helped me all the time. She takes the time to explain it to you and does everything she can for you. You have online quizzes after every chapter that are easy because you can use notes. And for my class one of your test grades dropped so I didn't even take the final.

Dr. Bowen is by far the best lab professor I've ever had. She provides great feedback during labs and helps when needed. She is caring and patient to everyone and thus, makes each lab enjoyable. Even if her lab is at 8AM, take her. Show up to labs, there are quizzes each week.

I hate biology, like hate hate hate HATE biology. Dr. Bowen made it tolerable, she uses powerpoint mostly but is very engaging and goes at a reasonable pace. She posts all powerpoint slides on canvas and is available almost all the time.

She really is a gem of a professor! She is so encouraging, passionate, and wants you to learn the material! That sounds silly, but really, she wants to accomplish the insanely difficult task of teaching something to remember and not just recite. I'm so glad I took her class. She provides so many extra resources. Power point lectures with passion!

Absolutely amazing professor. Had her for both lab and lecture and it was the best decision I've made. She is extremely clear on her expectations, and grading criteria. She's always available for consultation. During lecture she won't move on unless she knows everyone understands the material she went over.

A good teacher--funny (in her own way), caring, and knowledgeable BUT I could never get into the class--that is, stay awake, be engaged, etc. Her delivery is just boring, but that might just be me. If you're looking for an easy A, take her. You still have to know stuff, but just the gist.

Awesome! All her quizzes are online so the only thing you must stress over are her exams. She gave us 5 exams over certain groups of chapters. But there is no cumulative final.

Probably the best professor I have ever had. Super knowledgeable about everything science and if she is unfamiliar with something you have a question on, she's not afraid to admit she doesn't know the answer. She is very great at explaining concepts that are in the course. She also gives you PowerPoints with all the notes you need, so no textbook needed. Her test come directly from the notes, so no surprises. She is also very caring of her students.

Dr. Bowen is GREAAAAT! Her lectures are engaging. She gives you access to her powerpoints with outlines and reviews for that chapter. She has quizzes at the end of every chapter, they're quite easy, you take them on Canvas. If I remember she had only 3 worksheet assignments which weren't hard at all. Test! study the concept and understand it.

This professor is pretty easy. She has her lectures slides online and if you study that you should be able to pass the test. It is an easy A if you study. Few assignments and the chapter quizzes are online. As long as you study the PowerPoints the tests are really easy.

She is very caring & knowledgeable. Took her for both lab & lecture. Lecture about 2 online quizzes every week, 6 assignments & 5 exams Lab pre-lab(online) quiz & post-lab(in class) quiz every week, 1-2 pg lab report every week, 1 full lab report & 2 practicals(exams) She takes attendance for a grade. Not an easy A, but highly recommend her.

Took her for summer 1 bio. Honestly, an extremely easy prof and don't understand what the other people are talking about. She is great with explaining, the tests are easy... you just have to study. The lecture and lab tests are easy and most of the grade however, lots of quizzes, group work, etc to boost the grade. Tough on lab reports, though

Dr. Bowen is amazing! You have pay attention in class, and study for the tests. We had a pre-lab due online, which prepared you for the actual lab quiz, and its a great way to go over the material you will learn. You have a section of a lab report due every week, which is great because it prepares you for the actual lab report. Great Professor !

She's a fantastic professor! She gives you outlines/ reviews for tests and her online quizzes so it's pretty easy to do well in her class. She breaks everything down super easy for you and if you still have questions she'll help you one on one. People who said the tests were hard, just simply didn't study at all. Highly Recommend.

Dr. Bowen is GREAT! It is important to attend and listen to her lectures as she does a good job of explaining the material so you can understand it! Her tests require you to KNOW the info and apply it (think outside of just studying and memorizing) but you will learn so much. She is very approachable. I am SO glad I had her for this course!

The semester consists of 5 (easy if you review the material) exams . Quizzes are online. Extra credit was given sparsely. Attendance is graded if you are late to class or absent.

By far the best Lecturer I have ever had at Collin. She gave me the basics of biology and explained it so well that I still remember and use them in A&P 2. She broke down the material into basics in such a way that I actually enjoyed studying biology down the line. I definitely recommend her.

Professor Bowen is so nice! She is always willing to answer questions and do what she can to make biology more understandable. Her quizzes weren't too difficult and the assignments were fun. She did have 6 tests though, but the final was not cumulative. Overall she is a great professor!

I don't like biology, but Professor Bowen made it more tolerable than I expected. I can tell she really enjoys what she teaches. Even though my grade isnt the best it could be, if you really pay attention in her class are participate, it would be atleast an easy B. If you mess around though, you won't pass.

Dr. Bowen is a great professor and she is very knowledgeable. Her lectures are very well put together and easy to follow. If you put the time in outside of class to watch the assigned lecture videos and fill out the guided notes you will be successful. Her tests are easy if you have a general understanding of the concepts. She's the best.

Dr. Bowen is great! I had difficulty in the class only because I didn't have the time to study with my other classes and work schedule. She has outlines for notes, reviews, and extra videos to help. Her tests have open-ended questions on every test but you only have to do 2 out of the 3. She is a great lecturer, but the class was very hard for me.

super sweet and has a clear agenda as to when assignments are due and exams occur. she provides a variety, and lots of graded assignments to make sure you really understand the curriculum. her video lectures are very thorough and straight to the point, making the exams extremely easy if you take all the assignments and video lectures seriously.

Dr. Bowen's assignment schedules are very organized and her lectures are very thorough and engaging. Paying attention in class as well as answering and studying her review questions are all you need to do well on the exams or lab quizzes. Dr. Bowen is super sweet and fun and I wish I could take her again, I loved classes with her so much!

Dr. Bowen is an amazing lecturer and super sweet teacher. I took the course during Summer 1, which is naturally harder and faster, but she made sure we had the extra videos, textbook, and outlines to help us succeed. There is extra credit for every test and when you ask a question during a review session. She really wants you to succeed!

Professor Bowen is everything you look for in a teacher. I took her for BIOL 1406 + lab in the summer, and she was amazing. Great communication and easy to reach outside class, very clear grading policy, offered tons of easy extra credit opportunities, very understanding, and was extremely knowledgeable and concise in the material being taught.

She has a lot of lecture videos if u do miss lecture which is very helpful for studying for the exams. There are video quizzes that you have to study for but they do help a lot with knowing whats happening in the chapter. As long as you stay on top if your studying you should be fine.

There is a lot of homework and studying, but as long as you watch the videos she has on YouTube and ask her questions during an in-class review, you'll be fine. I LOVE Dr. Bowen! I'm a dual credit student, and I could not have been luckier than to have Dr. Bowen. Her lectures are absolutely amazing, and really, that's all you need to pay attention to to succeed. She also gives lots of extra credit points, and it's very easy to make above 100 in her class. Study the review guides and you're guaranteed a 100

Dr. Bowen is truly amazing, I had her in person lecture class. She has all her lectures prerecorded and has so many extra learning videos for us visual learners. She also has fill in notes that you can fill in as you watch her videos/ or read her PowerPoints. She gives really good feedback and is easily accessible in Person and email.10/10!

Put work as a priority and have a good explanation

(1408 and lab but wasn't an option) For a non-major course, pretty easy but the most work I had to put in for the semester. Course is "flipped" so learning chapters is done at home and review in class (just skim before class). Very sweet and helpful and not too much HW besides teaching self. Each assignment counts. Take for BOTH lec/lab if you can!

Fast-paced/content-heavy class. This class forced me to change the way I study, in order to survive. There are 17 chapters, 6 exams, and no cumulative final. Each chapter has a online lecture (1-2hr), online assignment (1hr), online quiz (20 min), and in-person quiz. Dr. Bowen is nice and offers all the necessary resources to be successful.

Her grade guidelines were perfect and she is always there to help. Even if you are absent for Lab she will be happy to work with you to make it up, answering any questions you have with accuracy and respect.

Very encouraging and passionate about what she teaches. The class is not an easy A but it isn't difficult if you do the work to study for quizzes and tests, which have review sheets. She gives very helpful answers and explanations, it really feels like she wants to make sure you understand.

She is very caring. However, she gives a bunch of work in her lecture, so if you don't enjoy heavy course loads, don't take this class.

If you do all the work and reading and put in the work, you will get an A. There is a heavy course load, if you can't deal with that, you should still probably take this teacher if possible, very good teacher.

She is AMAZING, I would make my whole schedule around her class if I could. There is a lot of material, but remember, it's Biology, so there's going to be a lot of material no matter who you take. Her lectures are clear and well-thought-out. Take her if you can; you will want to attend her classes.

Professor Bowen is super kind and always willing to help students. She's excellent at explaining the material, which makes it much easier to understand. The classwork is heavy, so your success really depends on how much effort you put in. This is a flipped class, where you watch the lectures and study at home, then work with your team during class.

Took her for lec online only. Very nice and has very good prerecorded lectures. 6 tests with no comprehensive final so you don't have to remember anything past ~2 weeks. Available to make appts with. Weekly assignments aren't overwhelming. Not much XC only on select exams and 2-5% only. Had no problem w/ honor locked exams. Dr. Bowen is very nice.
