Absolutely amazing lectures, some difficult iClicker questions but she has such a great personality that her lectures keep you awake and attentive

LOVED THIS CLASS! Oprah, or Professor Foster, kept the class interesting and had me applauding during the middle of class. The lectures were funny and helpful. She made a real effort to get to know students, especially during office hours. The final and the midterm are really hard though. Study and you will love her.

Great lecturer, homework can be a little confusing if her lectures dont get to the material. Tests and quizzes arent too bad and the grading policy is good. TA's arent good, at all, but good class overall.

Irene was a decent professor but I think her slides were from the internet. If you study and go to class, you will get a pretty good grade. Also you need to buy an iclicker so you should expect to show up to class every day. Hope for a good TA!

I actually thought she was pretty hard, there is a good amount of work and studying you have to do in order to get a good grade but it is definitely possible. Her lectures are interesting and she is a great teacher. But actually try and get a good TA because you will be disadvantaged if you don't.

Actually a great professor. If you do the practice problems she provides and pay attention in lecture, you can definitely walk out with an A. Also, you get BONUS POINTS ON THE QUIZES AND EXAMS just for attending the discussion sections. TAKE HER.

She's my favorite professor in GWU! I took both her 1011 and 1012. Very clear about the materials and very knowledgeable regarding the subject. She has 4 quizzes and will drop the lowest one. Homework is easy and you get points for attending the lectures (iClicker). And you get extra credits for the quiz when you attend the discussions.

Professor Foster explains the basics of economics very well in her intro courses! Lots of opportunities in this class to get an A - lowest grades are dropped on quizzes and you get a flashcard on the tests. If you attend class and put in some effort, you should get an A.

For intro to micro, she's really great. Knows her stuff, is friendly and engaging. Some people find her lectures boring but she definitely tries to keep it interesting with real world examples and clicker questions. If you're interested in econ you won't find it boring. You will learn a lot and should get a good grade if you do all of the homework

If you are going to take MicroEcon I strongly suggest having Professor Foster as your teacher. She breaks down the information & provides real world examples which allow her students to fully comprehend the information. While MicroEcon is a difficult subject to learn, you are best off having her as your professor.

Foster is a great lecturer, but she also really tries to accommodate students who need extra help. You need to attend class and use the practice problem sets! The class is an easy A-, but a little more effort will make it an A.

Professor Foster is the best teacher I have had yet at GW. She is so friendly and willing to help any student! She is great at teaching the material and is so passionate about it. The final exam is impossible but she gives plently of extra credit points so an A should be easy to get. I was dreading economics but it ended up being my favorite class.

you will not be interacting with Foster so the class really depends on your TA. everything in the class was generally easy (including the mid-term) but the final was genuinely difficult - not too sure why she made it so hard. definitely do well on all quizzes so the final doesn't end up dropping your grade dramatically at the last minute.

If you've taken an Econ course before, you'll do fine in Micro and Macro. Otherwise, it's an uphill climb. However, Foster was extremely helpful and took every opportunity to give us all a grade boost. I highly recommend going to her office hours a few times.

The best intro level Econ professor hands down. Foster knows her stuff and is great at explaining concepts. The work load is not tedious and the key to this course is just doing your assignments. Its not a cakewalk but if you get stuff done, you'll be alright.

Prof. Foster is AMAZING> She is basically the Indian Oprah. She really cares about her students and wants them all to succeed. She makes a point to help students who need help even though she teaches over 750 students per semester. Her tests and quizzes are challenging, but if you put in the effort is it easy to get an A! Huge fan of Foster-RMP doesn't do her justice. Yes, can be tough, but not if you do the practice problems and engage the material. Really cares about what she's doing, loves econ, welcomes students. Class is a bit TA dependent, but all of low level econ is. At the end of the day, you're ont going to find a better intro econ professor at GW

Easy quizzes and online homework's. Her midterm and final are pretty tough, the average with extra credit was a a 68%. However, she is clear and wants her students to do well.

Foster is great. However, her class is hard to do well in if you don't put in 110% effort. The homework is super easy to do and she holds all day study sessions before the midterm and final. I studied for days straight for the final and still didn't pass the final. However, with the quizzes and homework, it is not too hard to get a solid B.

What an amazing professor. Even for a lecture setting, she still cares about her students and makes herself available to answer your questions. I took her for both micro and macro. If you need to take the intro economics courses or you just have an interest in the topic, definitely take it with Foster.

Foster is the best to take Micro with, take Samaneigo for Macro. Hes a lot less work than foster. She is a lot of work but she is extremely fair and if you do well on the quizzes and tests (which are not easy), you will get an A in the class. When studying for the test literally print out everything you have done up to that point and re-do it.

Professor Foster is the professor you want to take Micro with. She is a sweetheart who wants her students to do well, but you need to work for an A. She does get harder as the course goes on. I had taken AP macro in high school so I had some background going into this course and found the beginning lectures quite easy.

Class is very structured, so you learn a lot more but also have a lot more work. Online HW every week- Hint: do it with friends. She is a VERY clear lecturer and incorporates real-world examples. iClicker questions make attendance mandatory. Quizzes/tests are VERY challenging. Overall, she's a caring, involved professor who teaches you a lot.

Great Professor, spending a lot of the beginning of class talking about current events that are not exactly relevant. VERY easy to get an A in this class if you do have study partners to help with sapling/ iclicker. She has super high expectations and demands you take hours upon hours studying for her quizzes/exams. While it was a really difficult class, it pushed me and I learned SO much from her. So even though you probably won't get the grade you want, you'll learn a lot and gain a great understanding of macro.

Queen Irene is the best! She is very clear as to what she expects from her students. There are lots of assignments, but she grades them pretty fairly. The homework is online and can take a long time but do it in groups and you will be fine. Foster cares about her students and if you reach out to her for help she will help you!

This class is not that hard. There are literally limitless resources that she gives you, and she draws test and quiz questions from them. We had quizzes nearly every week, so you never had to guess what type of questions would be on the midterms or finals.

Foster's class is very difficult, but you will get what you put into it. I studied for hours everyday, going over material and seeking help from the TA and tutors. Studying a little everyday made reviewing for quizzes and exams easier, but the second midterm was still very difficult. Ended the class with an A, but it was not easy.

I had Prof. Foster for both Macro and Micro Econ. She is definitely one of the best professors I've had at GW. She is extremely organized, knowledgeable, and concerned for her students. Interesting lectures. Unfortunately her tests can be pretty challenging, however she offers extra credit which usually ends up being +4% on your final grade.

Prof. Foster wants her students to do well, and is very clear in lecture. Even though he exams are tough, she gives direct clues about what to pay attention to; so pay attention in lecture! Weekly review sessions with TAs and office hours are really useful! Make sure to do the worksheets and reading or else you'll fall behind. YOU CAN DO IT!

Foster's class is very tough, and you'll need to spend many hours studying every week if you want to keep your grade up. The average grade in the class was a low B-. She gives extra credit and many resources, so it is possible to succeed. Prepare for tough bi-weekly quizzes and study hard for the written final, as most people fail it.

Foster has a huge reputation around GW, she's a good professor but assigns a lot of homework that doesn't relate to the weekly quizzes she gives. Quizzes are based more on what she talks about in lecture. Also, study for the Math Pre-Assessment she gives to save yourself a lot of time and money.

People complain about Foster but if you go to class, do the homework, do the online homework, study, you will do fine. The people that complain are the ones who do not do this. Professor Foster is honestly one of the best teachers I have had at GWU so far. I took micro with her and plan on taking macro. She tells you EXACTLY what is going to be on the tests and quizzes, and if you listen and show up to class, all while doing the homework you'll be MORE than fine. I came to GW with a 3.4 out of HS and no AP classes. I sat down and realized this class would kill me. Here is how to succeed- Read the Ch. Answer the Study Plan and take pictures of missed questions then re answer. Finish online HWK then review the ch. workbooks. Ace all the quizzes and the midterms. I have a 96 in the class now and its a breeze.

Professor Foster's class isn't bad at all as long as you do the assigned work... she'll put questions from the homework on quizzes. If you get the homework, you get the quizzes. Although Foster teaches a thought Econ class, I learned a lot and feel much more prepared than my peers who had other econ teachers. She assigns lots of class and recitation homework. Graduated with straight A's in high school and 1st semester of college, I got a B- in her class. She knows her stuff and is a solid, GOOD professor, but her tests are extremely difficult and worth 65% of the total grade. There's a quiz every week, which aren't too bad if you study, but don't count for a huge portion of your grade.

Foster is the best microeconomics teacher for ECON1011, because she describes everything in a very straightforward manner, and if by chance you don't understand, she provides plenty of resources for you to learn the material. (many of the other ECON1011 professors are very vague in describing concepts). Just work hard and you'll get an A.

Extremely well-structured class. Lectures are designed to aid understanding of material in textbook, and the weekly quizzes to test that knowledge on a basic level. The quizzes can be tricky, but overall helpful. The two Midterms were also tricky, but mostly because the time was short. Overall enjoyed the class, would definitely recommend.

Out of all my intro classes, Foster's intro to microeconomics was the best. It is not easy by any stretch, but if you do the workbook problems and go to discussion sections in addition to the lectures, you will be fine. Foster is crystal clear about the material during the lectures, and the powerpoint slides are posted online.

She posts workbooks, while there not graded, DO THEM. Doing them will allow you to understand the material as the online homework sucks.

ECON1011 can be a difficult class with Foster but I highly recommend taking it with her. She can be intimidating with quizzes every Friday and three large exams but she gives a lot of homework and extra credit to help prepare. Although tough, she is by far one of the best teachers I've ever had. If you actually want to understand micro, take her.

A lot of people freak out about Foster, and yes, she is hard, but a lot of people take advantage of the unlimited attempts on the homework, and leaving class after the online questions, but if you show up to class and pay decent attention and study a little you'll do fine.

Foster is so smart, and she is a great lecturer! Her weekly quizzes were not the best thing, especially since they were every Friday. But you did learn your material! She will give you great life advice and is very smart and interesting. Weekly quizzes and homework were not too hard, but the midterms and finals can definitely screw you. Be careful & work hard. Professor Foster is a fantastic teacher and an amazing women. Her lectures are interesting, entertaining, and clear. She takes the time to make sure students really know the material before moving on. Some people find her and her weekly quizzes hard but she tells you exactly what to expect and offers SO much extra credit. I loved this class.

Foster is an absolutely amazing Economics teacher. She expects a lot of hard work from her students, and you won't get a good grade unless you really work for it. That being said, she explains concepts in very understandable terms, and she gave us relevant articles to read, which connected the dry concepts in Economics to real life.

Professor Foster is one of the best teachers I have ever had. A lot of people are quick to blame her if they receive a poor grade which is completely unfair. She is an extremely intelligent professor who keeps her students interested. If you study well and take advantage of the opportunities that she gives then you will get an A in the class.

Foster is THE best Intro Micro professor there is. No, this class will not be an easy A for most people. You have to do the online HW (unlimited attempts to get it right) and study hard for quizzes (which have extra credit) and midterms/ the final; however, Foster gives you all of the tools for success, and I personally think she is a badass.

Professor Foster is the BEST micro teacher period. I'm not just saying that because I got a decent grade, I'm saying it because it's a fact. MOST QUIZ/TEST QUESTIONS COME FROM THE WORKBOOK. If you hear she is scary or hard it's because the person who said that didn't do the work books and hates the material, not the teacher. DO THE WORKBOOKS.

This was one of the hardest classes that i have ever taken in my life. I should have taken Economics at a community college instead. Granted, Foster is one of the most articulate professors, but expects a lot from everyone.

Irene is the angel of economics. She covers the material in several different styles and keeps the class engaged. I actually learn the material and if you put in the work to learn, you can get a good grade. She really cares about her students, and I recommend getting to know her during office hours.

Professor Foster is truly an amazing professor. She is clearly knowledgeable about Econ, and it's obvious she's very passionate for the subject. There is a lot of homework assigned and the weekly quizzes are annoying and stressful. Midterm 1 is really easy, however midterm 2 and the final are impossible. Foster, of course, is a staple of the GW community. She's thorough and clear, and her class structure will help you really own the basic concepts of microeconomics. All I can say is that I survived. This class is not an easy intro class. The class is very well structured with weekly homework assignments and quizzes. I have never worked harder for a class in my entire life, but I learned so much. I failed the first two quizzes because I didn't study, but after studying, I ended up doing pretty well up. But, the final was literally so hard and I studied for days. Foster wants you to do well and there are many extra credit opportunities.

Yes, it's a lot of work, but every piece of homework helped me actually understand the concepts. She wants to help you succeed if you put effort into the class. Many extra credit opportunities. I LOVE professor Foster! She is super clear about content and expectations, and knows the information inside and out. She is a very good speaker and can keep you engaged in a banal intro course. If you go to lecture, discussion, and do the homework you have nothing to worry about. Word to the wise, however, take the math assessment seriously!

This class was taken as a gen ed on a whim but it ended up being my favorite. I had to work a bit harder than 1011, but if you do the homework assignments you'll be fine. I don't think I've had a better professor though, she recognizes when you make an effort and will do anything in her power to make you succeed if she sees you're putting work in.

Foster is the best prof to take for micro. Great lecturer, commands attention. She gives lots of homework but it will help you understand and boost your grade. I had absolutely zero grudges against her. She put in her blood, sweat, and tears to make whoever was willing to succeed do so. Most classes have curveballs in order to succeed, but success in her class was based on if you wanted to put in the effort or not. Just do the HW and study how she tells you, and it'll be the semester of your lifetime.

God bless this woman. Gives so many resources to grasp the material, and the TA's are super available as well. In class clicker questions are graded. She drops your lowest homework scores at the end of the semester, and takes hours out of her day to hold midterm & final review sessions. Beware quizzes every friday and lots of online HW.

I love Irene! The class is pretty structured so you always know what is expected of you. There are quizzes every Friday, two midterms, and a final so it is test heavy but in a manageable way. She gives quizzes (2-5 questions) in class on an app, which aren't freebies but you can discuss. She is tough and gives a lot of homework but you will learn a lot. Professsor Foster was one of my favorite professors this semester. There is a lot of work like any econ class and weekly quizzes that are released Friday at 5pm until Saturday at midnight which is terrible timing, she cares a lot about her students. She also gives many resources for you to get help and make sure you are well prepared for tests.

Econ 1001 is a great class for people who struggle with math and don't want to jump right into Micro. Professor Foster was very helpful, and the TAs and LAs had study sessions every day. The workload is very easy, and the weekly quizzes were not bad at all (and she drops some grades at the end of the semester). Definitely recommend!

Professor Foster truly does want to see her students succeed. There were office/study hours every day with a variety of times so each student could fit it in their schedule. Econ can be frustrating, Professor Foster definitely tried to make it as tolerable as possible. Be ready to study a lot, the exams aren't too bad but can be confusing.

Pay attention to her lectures because the textbook isn't much help. She overemphasizes what's important, which is nice. LOTS of office/study hours available if you need it. Go to discussions because they're very helpful. Exams and quizzes can be tricky because they're different from the homework questions, but practice/study and you'll be fine!

Foster is extremely organized and makes it very clear what you need to know to succeed in the class. There is a weekly 4 question quiz every week in recitation. She also gives in-class questions (graded for accuracy) every lecture. It's nice because the class questions are almost exactly like the quiz questions, but attendance is a must.

Prof Foster is a solid intro to econ teacher. Is very accessible outside of class, attendance is randomly checked through in-class questions but not necessarily required (I always joined the zoom). Course content can feel ridiculously easy at time, especially the tophat questions. Overall just make sure you are prepared for weekly quizzes.

Foster is a good professor. Sometimes makes mistakes and has to redo stuff in class but I'm guessing 1001 isn't her main focus. Quiz every Friday on that week's material, but they're not bad and take 10 minutes (literally). Weekly homework from Sept-Nov, not hard, takes an hour each week. Prof. Foster is a great professor. Her class is great for anyone new to economics. The class is paced well, ensuring everyone understands. She makes it easy to meet with either her, TAs, or LAs. Midterms and quizzes are very straightforward; she tells you exactly what to cover and provides study guides for the midterms a week prior.

Professor Foster is amazing! She is a fair grader and her class is not necessarily "easy" but she is very accessible and wants her students to succeed. She offers so many resources and study sessions almost every day. Attendance for lectures is not mandatory (and they are recorded) but you have to go to discussions to take a weekly quiz.

Many office hours available, wants you to do well. graded off of weekly quizzes in discussion, textbook hw 1x week, 2 midterms, final. The math is easy, not much econ is even introduced until the last part of semester. Going to lecture will basically get you a good grade in the class- quizzes are straight from that material.

Professor Foster is honestly one of the best economic professors GWU has to offer, extremely helpful and cares deeply about her classes

Professor Foster is great at breaking down large concepts into clear, understandable portions and cares about each of her students. She emphasizes building a strong foundation. There are weekly quizzes, but they're small and honestly help with making sure that you stay on top of material. She also has a variety of ways to earn points! Love her!!!

She's nice & very helpful during office hours, she really wants you to succeed and is passionate about the topic. Extra credit galore (REALLY go to Discussion, it helps with learning as well) but also there's TopHat questions (you answer questions in real time). Incredible amount of homework sometimes but its easy/online/not that big of your grade.

Professor Foster is very knowledgeable and wants everyone to succeed. There is plenty of office hours and extra credit points. The biggest thing is going to discussion for the weekly quizzes and extra practice. Going to lecture is very important and is a great way to start learning about economics.

Loved this class. Was a great way to start learning about econ. Weekly quizzes and homework. Quizzes are easy if you go to class. Very generous about dropping two lowest quizzes/in-class clicker questions. I recommend taking this course if you are new to economics. She is so nice and wants students to succeed!

Prof. Foster is incredibly accessible, plenty of office hours multiple times throughout the day, and gives you every chance to succeed in the class. Attendance to lectures isn't mandatory, but there are live questions frequently during class that if you miss/don't attempt, they will hurt your grade.

I could not recommend Dr. Foster enough. She is an Amazing teach and person. A team of TAs help her with study session everyday and she is very reasonable when it comes to curving tests and quizzes. She has weekly quizzes in the discussion section about what has been covered through the week and has homework problems due most weeks as well.

If you need to take an Economic class make sure it is with this prof. She really does care for her students and wants the best for them. I was close to failing the course and she asked me to come to office hours and we made a plan on how to improve my grade. She also opened some of the homeworks for me so I could raise my grade. 10/10. Her class is both very easy and very understandable. She clearly loves teaching and is always nice to students. She literally goes back over questions people got wrong and gives points back if she realizes the question was unnecessarily hard or badly phrased. Very easy to access outside of class as well, and midterms and quizzes are ez.

Prof Foster is by far one of the best professor I had. Her lectures are very clear and interesting, she pushes you to give the best of yourself. Her grading is very straightforward and she's always available outside of classes. Do not hesitate to go to office hours as they are very helpful. She just has never answered to my mails.

Professor Foster is very passionate about Economics and she wants her students to be interested and engaged in the topic. She is very nice and has a lot of resources you can use if you are struggling, she has tons of office hours. The lectures were very interesting as she related the topics to the real world. She is very kind and generous.

Very cool person in general. Knowledgable and explains things well. Extremely easy class. There is homework, but again, very easy. Studied maybe 10 minutes for each exam, can have notecards for exams as well.

Professor Foster is incredibly knowledgeable and always eager to help. Her lectures are engaging and easy to understand! Quizzes and exams aren't too difficult, and note cards are allowed during exams. Be sure to take advantage of office hours and get to know her, she's great!

Professor Foster is honestly a great professor I think this last semester the class was unique in a bad way. She changed the way she taught the class as a test run and it honestly was not amazing. The second half of the class was hard for no reason it felt like the TA's and LA's didn't know what to expect and the lessons were always changing.

Professor Foster was very good at explaining the econ concepts, but it's also important to study on your own to really gain all of the principles of the course.

I took Prof. Foster twice Freshman Year and she was the best professor by far. Very passionate about Econ and wants her students to pass and learn key Econ topics for their future. So many office hours, TA's and LA's ready to help, so she is super accesible outside of class. Gives many extra credits to get good grades and resources to understand.

Interactive lectures, so many ways of tutoring and extra practice outside of class, amazing professor who knows the content and wants students to succeed. I would take Prof. Foster over any other Econ prof if you want extra credit, want to be graded by quizzes, homework, two midterms, one final + she drops the lowest two of everything - LOVE HER

Professor Foster is very kind and very willing to work with you if you need to make up assignments or resubmit projects or anything, but you have to go to her office hours to talk to her about whatever it is you need to speak with her about in person or you probably won't get a response, at least not a timely one. Other than that, she's amazing!

Prof foster is really nice. Goes thru stuff throughly, drops a lot of grades at end of the semester. weekly quizzes but nothing crazy. 100% recommend, super manageable.

Amazing professor, she is such a queen. Explains everything in a very organized step by step manner so that it's very easy to understand. Attendance is not mandatory, but very often we have in class graded top hat questions, so I recommend not skipping. There is also weekly online homework and weekly quizzes.

Foster is a great Professor and she will help you every step of the way. She is super understanding so just talk to her if you have issues. Weekly quizzes are easy and two midterms plus final. Requires medium studying but she offers lots of support hours and help. If you have the option to take her I highly recommend as someone who hates Econ.

As someone who was nervous to take econ due to math struggles- take Foster. Econ is hard no matter what, but she is caring, uses simple examples, is very organized, super accessible outside of class, and provided me with a great foundation. Super happy to be following her into micro. #QueenIrene

Professor Foster is the best! Teaches Econ with purpose and clear understanding. Makes many resources available that it's impossible to fail. Always has her own individual office hours and many TAs to help with anything. Great class that made me interested in economics.

I love Professor Foster! She does ramble on in classes sometimes but it's relevant to the current economy. Best TAs and resources out of any department. Weekly online homework that sometimes feels disconnected with what were currently learning but its super easy. We do in class timed questions. Make sure you get calculator and iPad too.

Professor Foster is definitely a bit scary and she is not afraid to call you out in front of the entire class if you don't know anything. She is super good at lecturing and teaching things very clearly. But one on one she is not the nicest person. Her TA's are super nice and helpful though so definitely use them for help.

She's very good but I definitely second that she's scary. You interact with her more than other GenEd professors and she kinda belittles you if you don't know anything but she definitely has a gift for teaching. Quizzes every Friday, you can fail like every other and still have a fine grade. THE SUBJECT MATERIAL IS SO SO EASY if you pay attention.

Foster wants you to pass her class; she can honestly be passive aggressive and needs to see you put effort in order to help you. Quizzes every week + weekly homework, 2 midterms and a final exam. Class content isn't too hard, you just have to pay attention and attend office hours, TA's are greaty and really great resources.
