Ok if u do not have a good chem background dont take her! But otherwise you should be fine if you ARE willing to do all the work-grouphw/quizes/pract. tests etc. and are willing to study at least 3-4 hours a week if not more! And go to her office for help

I had Dr. Gerow for Chem 1130.If anyone has taken this class they know how hard the material is.I had Bjorkman my first semester with 1130 and failed and I made an A with Gerow.Although the material is hard, she uses powerpoint to make notes easy to take.

Chem is going to be hard, no matter who you take. She is a great teacher if you go to class everyday. If you have any questions ask her! She loves when students stop by to see her. Go to all of her study groups and find someone who has already taken her recently, she does not change her test.
Gerow is nothing to be scared of. She gives 5exams&1final, so the popquizzes and homework help your grade. In order to pass this course,you should study reguarly and take the ace quizes off her sight on blackboard.I'm no genius and I have an "A". Chem. is going to be HARD no matter the professor.

Dr. Gerow is an excellent teacher. The class is hard, but this is Chemistry. She's very helpful and loves for students to visit her office. Sometimes lectures go a little too fast, but overall she's clear and is always open for questions. She will challenge you but you'll appreciate it. Take her.
Dr. Gerow is not helpful at all! I went to her for help, and she always had an attitude with me! The class is hard, and you have to study. If you read the book, it helps more than solely listening to her. All I have to say, is GOOD LUCK!

Chemistry 1130 is hard no matter who you take. Gerow's class is definitely tough, but do-able. She is willing to help you all the time, and if you go to her with HW questions, she'll practically give you the answers. Go to class and study and you can make atleast a C.

Her class is so bad. You do multiple chapters and sometimes move onto the next one before you even finish the one before! She dosen't help you out much and get's very irritable. The homework is difficult and brings your grade down. Oh, and the test suck. Study hard. (test are short,miss a few and you get a low grade)
In all fairness, chemistry is hard no matter who you have. Pre-labs are HARD, and she is a difficult grader. She will help you when you have a problem but can be mean and condescending.

She is terrible. She only shows powerpoints of stuff from the book and never explains what the stuff means. She will look at you like you are an idiot if you ask her a question. Gerow is an awful teacher. She shows powerpoints every day and expects you to understand just from copying the notes. She doesnt explain everything. if 85% of the class fail the test she think that the students are stupid but she never thinks that she sucks at teaching. Chemistry is hard to begin with. Fortunately, I had a decent chem teacher in high school wich helped a lot in the beginning. She isn't a wonderful teacher, and she may yell at you if you try to leave class. She goes over things, but if you don't get it the first time, she won't go over it again unless someone asks.
Chemistry is just a hard class...Ms. Gerow tries to explain it the best she can and people that fail the class are usually the ones who don't take the time to study or make it to class. Weekly homework tests online and clicker quizzes pretty much every class. No extra credit. Tests are VERY hard but the class is doable.
Hard class. Every class builds on the previous one. i.e you dont get something like molarity & you have problems the rest of the class. Clicker quizzes are given daily... She spent too much time on the easier material at the beginning of the semester & then harder material came up & she moved too quickly. To pass this class, you have to self-teach.

Gerow isn't that bad of a teacher. Yes she can come off as an evil old lady but it all depends on how you approach her. She is very willing to help during her office hours and has help sessions once a week. I kept a B for the entire semester but made a C overall b/c of the final exam. This class is definitely doable. My final average was 103. I made a 100 on the final after only studying for about four hours. She gives some extra credit around mid-semester. Go to class; look over your notes daily; study around 4 hours per test; listen; take notes; go to help sessions... and you'll do fine. She really is a nice lady.Not an easy A

Dr.Gerow's class is definantly not easy.Overall the material is very hard but she will help you if you need help. She will not hand out grades. Go to class everday and plan on spending the best of the semester on this one class. If you devote the time and alot of effort you can get through it! Don't give up if your dreams depend on this.

chem is HARD no matter what teacher you have. gerow may come across as somewhat mean, but she is just straight forward, honest and gets to the point! doesn't sugar coat stuff for you. just be prepared to study your butt off and ALWAYS bring your clicker to class!! chem is EXTREMELY hard but not impossible!!
Gerow will either make or break you. Many people have change their nursing major because of her! I am blessed to not be one of those but I feel their pain. Helpful in the lab but Ihave heard horrible in the lecture. She was and joked around with you if she knew you were putting in the work. She knew who was and who was not. Really not too tough if you are taking the lecture at the same time because you do the same things.
The hardest class I have ever taken! Start studying from the beginning... Mini-exam and final test were my worst grades... Somehow I pulled out an A in the class... but I studied at least 30 hours for each test... The exam was incredibly hard. She curves like crazy... she has to, otherwise the grades would be horrible!
The class was hard as crap but contrary to what most people say she really wasn't that bad. She gave me the answers to any question I asked & she was understanding when something went wrong. She gave extra credit randomly along the line. I liked her as a person just not the class. I studied my tail off for a C..and the final was hard as crap.
All of these people are just whiny babies... I made an A in this class. I studied a lot though... i actually EARNED this grade instead of having it handed to me like it is in so many other classes. Yes, this class was defiantly hard, but Dr. G is really not so bad, any time i went to her with a homework question she answered it very nicely, I studied hard, and made sure to read through the chapters and have a pretty steady B, do not take this class unless you are ready to come to class, pay attention, and study more then 2 hours before a test

I would not suggest Gerow as a teacher for anyone. She is the worst chemistry teacher that I ever had. I use to like chemistry before she became my teacher. She does not explain the information. She thinks that she can just show a slide show and you will get it. ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!!!!!!

This class is very HARD!!! Attendace is mandatory. She is not very helpful, and you wont get much out of the class. Try to take someone else is possible.
Chem is a hard class overall she really made an effort to help students out she offered extra credit and tutoring sessions.Reading this site before class scared me about her but in the end i have no complaints about her i stuck at chem and i ended up with a B go to class if you dont you cant complain bc ur a dumb-ass to skip a chem class

Her questions are ambiguous. She seems to find humor in asking tricky questions that the class, in general can not answer. All in all she really does not create an atmosphere in which students can learn. She acts as if she could care less if you pass or fail. All one needs to do is to look at her pass/fail ratio for the last few semesters.

Worst. Teacher. Ever. I have a Science Olympiad medal for chemistry, and I still got a D in this class. I studied constantly, and I still failed her tests. Extremely unhelpful. One class, a girl raised her hand and Gerow simply said, "No."

Gerow isn't as bad as everyone says. She expects a lot but it's not impossible. She teaches the CONCEPT so you really have to study for the tests because they aren't problems you've seen before. But for the most part she covers everything that's gonna be on the test. Make sure you print off the online notes. They are very helpful.
She is one of the worse professors I've had. She teaches things that are not on her tests. She is not willing to answer your questions, she just tells you to go look it up. She has no interest in helping you learn, she's weeding out people.
Hard as anything. The MasteringChemistry homework is a joke. Never taught the concepts in class. Never even went over the same problems in class. The class is a joke. There is no practice. Just teach and quiz. No practice what so ever. The concepts she teach are boring and useless. It's all about the math with her.

There is value in the consistency of these ratings. Most notably, the consistent denial of help. I am not sure why she is still teaching actually, this cannot be that reassuring. She does not seem to enjoy teaching.
Dr. Gerow should retire and go home instead of making college students lives miserable. She makes no sense when she teaches. No she will not give you an A on a golden plate, you have to work hard for it but this is not High School anymore and if you want to be successful then you have to work for it. On one test she told us that out of 131 students, 126 failed. Then she blamed us and said it was our bad study habits! If more than 95% of your class fails, its the teachers fault!!! This woman is a poor excuse for a professor. Her tests are SO hard and she only gives you about 35 minutes to do her "one hour tests". She isn't helpful at all when you ask her questions, she just tells you to study. But if you've studied for days and still don't understand.. why can't she help? RUN!

DR. GEROW is not as bad as everyone makes her seem. She is there to help, you just have to ask. At first i was icky about taking her class but i really needed to take it, so i did it anyways. However, i did struggle to get a C. But it was all worth it in the end. It takes alot of studying and reading. If you fail, its because you're LAZY!
If anything TRY to get into Bjorkman's class !!!! Don't have a lot of hours when taking this class because it will take up ALL your time, and you still might not do well. Bjorkman's class fills up quickly b/c noone wants her so take this as a warning ! What she teaches is opposite of whats on the test, or she'll teach it after the fact BEWARE !
If you get Dr. Gerow, switch your schedule immediately or drop the class, It is not worth it. The way she teaches and the difficulty of everything makes it seem like she expects you to be a chemistry professor yourself.

Taking this class with another professor is definitely the way to go. Dr. Gerow just doesn't seem to have the best teaching style for most people. Very hard to tell what would/wouldn't be on exams. Sometimes things would seem to be important, and then wouldn't be mentioned at all on tests. I was warned beforehand, and had to drop.

This is the worst teacher I have ever had in my entire life!! I had a 98 all year long in high school and barely passing this class. She doesn't teach anything useful you need to know to pass the tests or do the homework. I was lost all semester long! take my advice and run while you can!!!!!!!!

Her attendance is mandatory, but yet you have to take quizzes which count towards your attendance so if you get an 80% on the quiz, there's your attendance grade for that day. She doesn't post notes, isn't on blackboard, and doesn't hold reviews. Her tests are impossible. Masteringchemistry doesn't help and she sucks at teaching.
She is not helpful at all. It doesn't seem like she cares much about how her students at all. She does not give any help outside of class unless it fits her schedule. I recommend taking a different teacher unless you like stressing out and failing classes.

This is quite possibly the worst professor i have ever come across. I had the pleasure of taking Dr. Gerow. Only F I ever received on my transcript. I was apart of study groups and everything. Her teaching style is so horrible. She knows alot about chemistry but explaining it on a level that an 18 or 19 year old can fully understand she has not mastered that yet and probably will not. Not a bad person though.
