She is so cool. She is absolutely hilarious- there is not one class period where she doesn't make everyone laugh out loud. Her tests are extremely fair. By far the very best professor I have ever had here at Wisconsin.
Awesome professor! Very funny, keeps you wide awake for the entire power lecture. Material was interesting and tests were very fair. Not a very hard class.
She is so cool! She has the best sense of humor- she hates suck ups. Totally hilarious. Katele: "My mom's house in Chicago was broken into and the cops didn't care to solve the crime-heck they were probably involved."
she sucks...she thought she was funny, but she wasn't....she was scary. stay away from this clss, it's no good.
I love Professor Katele! She's awesome! The material is interesting, and she's witty and fun! Tests are very fair and she's very helpful whenever you need it! I would recommend this class and another other class taught by Professor Katele! Katele: "Smart is pretty!"
do NOT take this class for an easy A if you're not interested in criminal justice....it was very hard for an intro class, lots of reading and very hard essay exams. i'm sure legal studies majors had an easier time
Irene is great. Her lectures are interesting, her enthusiasm is off the wall, and quite frankly you never know what she'll come up with. She's well prepared, great to talk to in person, and extremely helpful. The class isn't easy but it's not impossible, especially if you're interested! You'll laugh
Irene is awesome! She's a great lecturer and I never missed a class. I really recommend her.
It's not easy, but she keeps the lectures interesting, and the subject matter is really cool
european law was ridiculous. The material was easy but Katele screws you on the tests. They are like reading comprehension exams for law students where you're always looking for a trick word.Plus she tells lame jokes all the time about her dog,Who cares about your damn dog just teach the class!
She is very funny and the only professor who has ever kept me awake at 930 in the morning
Irene is AMAZING! If you're at all interested in the legal studies field, this class should convince you to go that route. Very funny, very personable, but gets down to business when necessary. The tests are difficult, but if you put the effort in you'll get the grades.
Katele is the best. She is the most hilarious and enthusiastic professor ever, yet she is also extremely knowledgable and really sets you up to succeed and learn if you want to. It's really enjoyable going to lecture to hear whatever comes out of that mouth of hers...its a comedic grab bag.
Katele is a great professor. She's hilarious which definitely keeps you interested. This class isn't an easy A, its alot of work but definitely worth it. The exams are fair and she is always available for help.
This is a great professor who bends over backwards for her students. She is a very interesting person and is extremely organized. The class is never dull, and I feel that I have learned a lot from her and the material she assigns. There is quite a bit of reading to do, but nothing outrageous.
umm yeah i think she's crazy... but it kept me entertained and interested in the class. not exactly an easy intro course, i wouldn't recommend taking it unless you're interested in the subject. she's mostly helpful unless someone asks a "dumb" question. she also has a tendency to interrupt people. most people liked her, but she kind of scared me
Wow, phenomenal professor. Goes to great lengths to keep material up-to-date and comprehensive (aka, don't expect to skip class and get the information in the readings). She's partially insane, but that's a good thing because classes were always a joy to be in. She's full of passion and energy and she's more than willing to help if you need it. Only drawback is the sheer volume of material and the way it's tested. Exams are very difficult, not going to lie.
Great Teacher and advisor. If you want to understand the law, because it is confusing enough, she is someone you want as a teacher! She does a great job explaining things, and will always answer your questions and not make fun of you!
Very interesting class. She does great job keeping u entertained early in the morning. Not a soc class for easy A. Need to work your ass off&do all the readings thoroughly but she gives pretty fair but detailed exams. Tells lots of jokes& also multiple guest speakers. Really gives a feel for the crim justice system, good even if not going into law.
For those that aren't always a wake at 9:30 am very very intersting and keeps you going. Her perosnality is awesome! She knows her stuff and will explain it all very clearly. Love her style of teaching with a overhead and explainning her bullets very well. Guest lectures not always great but make sure to go to them
Funny, great teacher, tests are hard.
Professor Katele did an excellent job teaching soc 131. She will do almost anything for her students, is very helpful and responsive and does whatever she can to make material interesting and fun. I would recommend this class to anyone interested in legal studies, but the class could be challenging for someone not interested in the subject.
She is really great. She is hilarious and makes the lecture and material fun and interesting...but she's also really organized and knows how to lecture so that you will understand and retain the concepts. A+ Katele!
Good teacher. The class is interesting. Go to lecture and read the text book. The reader is fairly interesting and the text is an easy read. She really wants people to do well and learn. take this class
Don't be scared by the first day. Katele is demanding but is one of the best professor's I've had in Madison. She really knows her stuff and makes lecture fun to attend.
what a hoot! brilliant person all-around
Love her! Take the class. She's great. Material isn't especially hard if you put in the work. Gives all the essays in advance so nothings really a suprise.
She is the funniest professor I think Ive had at Madison. Good material too, very relevent to the major (obviously) but also to life. Recommendation: tell her that you love poodles on the first day of class...
Professor Katele is most likely the best professor I will ever have a Madison. She keeps the class entertained while conveying the information clearly. It was the most painless power lecture I have had yet. I would highly recommend this class and this professor even if you have no intention of pursuing legal studies, criminal justice, or law.
Amazing! She's by far my favorite professor...the class was definitely challenging but so worth the hit to my GPA. Lectures are interesting and she makes it worth attending.
ridiculous exams and extreme amount of reading- take it with someone else!!!
Well, well katele is very entertaining and a little scary at first, and a little rude, disc sections were useless, but those tests are hard, i repeat, HARD....so read and know the material because her style is to separate the As from the Bs...
Professor Katele is probably the best professor I've had at Madison- very clear, very interesting, and very fun! She's also highly approachable outside of class- she wrote a great recommendation for me. Its hard, but worth it.
Best professor that I have ever had. She truly cares for her students and really knows the material being taught. Her exams are very difficult, and you will work a lot in this class, but she makes it all worth it. Take this class if you have even the slightest interest in law and justice.
best professor ive ever had, but not an easy A by any means. i attended every lecture and read all the material (which is substantial but not totally overwhelming) and still got a B. Her grading on the essays is just too picky; your grade doesnt represent how much you learn in the class. all and all still 100% worth taking since shes amazing
by far the best class i've ever taken. like ppl have said, class is very tough but 100% worth it. lectures were a ton of fun to go to w/ katele and material was super interesting. definitely make sure you know the reader articles very well; go to lectures because she makes everything very clear and you get to hear about her dogs and her yell at ppl
Awesome class. Not easy, but she makes it a great experience. It is definitely a class I will remember.
amazing.
Dr. Katele is very engaging in her approach to the material. She runs her class with an interactive model and encourages students to ask questions and participate in her lectures. She is incredibly knowledgeable and makes this class not only interesting but fun.
Katele is awesome!!! Her class is somewhat difficult, but she makes it interesting. Be sure to pay attention to examples she gives in class and do the readings. If you're thinking about Legal Studies as a major take this class with Katele!!
Katele rocks- her class is incredibly fun and ineresting. It's hard but very fair, the tests are difficult but doable with studyng. I definitley recommend this class.
I used this website to decide to take this teacher based on its overwhelmingly postive reviews; I am now using this website to tell YOU that this teacher is deserving of all of them. How good can a teacher really be? Find out by taking this course.
Katele is AMAZING! Best instructor I've had at UW. She's passionate about law & truly cares about her students. She has a great sense of humor, is well organized, & makes lectures an interactive learning experience. I GUARANTEE you WILL learn something valuable. If u read the text closely there's no reason you shouldnt get a decent grade. TAKE HER!
Katele is an amazing professor. She is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the material. Her exams are tough, you need to study super hard to get an A.
I loved this class!Katele is a great teacher, she is very. The class is kinda difficult but if you go to lecture and read it is easy to get a good grade. I would recomend this class to anyone intrested in law or criminal justice.
The tests are killer but the class is good.
Katele was the BEST professor I have had in my entire college career. She created a class that even I, a person who CANNOT wake up, wanted to go to and stayed awake in at 9:30 am. The class is not so easy, but very manageable if you do the reading. She is also incredible to just talk to in office hours.
Looooved Katele and the class! Tests are hard but fair. Reading and going to lecture is important but the material is so intresting and Katele presents the info in a fun way. I would suggest this class to anyone at all intrested in criminal justice or law
BEST teacher i've ever had since i got on campus. she makes class fun and makes you willing to get up at 9:30 in the morning to come to lecture. the tests aren't very easy but if you do the readings and come to lecture you'll be good. i would recommend her to anyone that is interseted in legal matters and would like a fun and crazy professor.
Katele was the best teacher I have ever had. She makes class extremely fun and interesting. You must attend lecture and read the text in order to well on the tests but her tests are most definitely fair. TAKE THIS CLASS! Katele actually makes the class fun.
her lecture is awesome!!
Katele is by far the best professor I will have in college, no doubt about it. If you plan on taking 131, half of the importance of the class is taking it with her. Another professor wouldn't make the class like she does.
Katele was by far the best professor I've had in my three years here. She makes the material exciting and relevant, often adding personal stories to make it interesting and applicable. Exams are challenging- the class isn't easy. But what you gain from the class is worth it. Have to do readings and attend lectures to do well for sure.
The best professor I have ever had at UW-Madison. Simply exceptional! Had me looking forward to lectures. Super funny! Material highly relevant. Changed how I view things.TAKE ANY AND ALL CLASSES WITH HER, even if you're not a legal studies or sociology major.
Katele is honestly one of the best professors I've ever encountered! She's upbeat, personal, and keeps things moving along quickly! Her class is very difficult though, but I honestly recommend it to any (not just soc majors). She's honestly a wonderful teacher! Do the readings, and attend lecture, and study study study!
Awesome. Soc/LS 131 is a very interesting course, especially with Katele, who presents everything in a clear and entertaining way. It's not easy, but it isn't hard either if you go to every lecture (which you'll want to), do all the readings, and study. Unfortunately she has cancer but she expects to make a full recovery.
Great lecturer! Lots of assigned reading, which Katele doesn't merely repeat during lecture. Brings in highly relevant guest speakers often. Take this class no matter your major: you'll walk away with a completely different understanding of your rights and the criminal justice system.
Taking her lectures makes my day! The exams are pretty tough though, but I never regret about taking this her class.
Katele is by far the best professor at UW. Not only is she passionate about teaching, she cares a lot about her students. Going to lecture was always a pleasure. She is very impartial and does a great job of showing all sides of the CJS. Not once did Katele give her opinions about the CJS. Anyone & everyone is lucky to have her as a professor.
Katele is a great teacher! She really wants you to know the aspects of the CJS and draw your own conclusions. The exams are difficult, the criteria is very specific. Nevertheless, I learned so much from her lectures and from guest lectures. The best thing is she bring guests who have experience: policeman, judge, lawyers, wardens.
Katele is a great professor. Truly passionate about what she teaches and wants you to gain the most out of the course. It is challenging. A lot of reading, discussion, and the tests are not a cake walk. You get the essay test questions before and she ends up choosing one of the three to be on the test plus multiple choice. Overall good teacher.
The exams were rough, but I loved Katele and the class! And she's great guest speaker! I don't hate criminology so much anymore.
I think Katele is a very good lecturer, she is clear and interesting. She is helpful, for example she emails you all the time to clarify questions others had. The essay part of the test was not bad, but her multiple choice questions are rough. Overall, shes a great teacher!
Katele is a great lecturer, she doesn't like to be called a professor. If you would like to succeed in this class you must attend lecture, and if by chance you do miss class email your classmates for notes. Also, read the course reader and text book. The exams are challenging so you really need to study for them ahead of time.
Katele is an AWESOME professor. Even if criminology isn't your cup of tea, if you need humanities credits..... take this class. Genuinely interesting. Katele is funny, intelligent and passionate. This is a power lecture, but it doesnt feel like it!
LOVE LOVE LOVE Katele. The best professor that I have had her at the UW. She is so incredibly passionate about what she is teaching and makes it extremely interesting. Her examples really make the class relevant to everyday life. She is absolutely hilarious and even talks about how she is kind of crazy. If you can, take her class!
AWESOME. One of the best professors I have had so far. She explains everything sooo clearly and makes it very easy to understand. The class is challenging but the information is really interesting so reading doesn't seem like a chore. She changed the way I think about the criminal justice system!
She obviously loves teaching and cares for her students. Wonderful lady. Yes, it's difficult but so very interesting. Best teacher, professor or not, at UW.
I'm only a freshman but I feel like I am going to be spoiled now that I had Katele for my first semester. Her spunky personality is engaging. If you have her for criminal justice, she brings in a lot of interesting guest speakers who accompany the unit well. I learned so much in her class and became a better person and citizen! TAKE THIS CLASS!
Holy smokes. Katele is PHENOMENAL. If you have the opportunity to take 131 with her, DO IT. Interesting lectures that provide both sides of an arument and the readings really compliment lectures. Tests are challenging, but if you study well you'll have no problem. Best professor I've had at UW and I'm in my third year.
BEST class I've ever taken! Katele is absolutely amazing and lectures are so interesting. Tests have a lot of info, but if you study a lot and really pay attention to what she tells you to focus on you will be fine! She gives you the essay question possibilities, and I would highly recommend practicing writing each essay, it WILL pay off! Love her
I took her class 3 years ago, and I wish I could take it again! I'm not a morning person by any means, but I remember leaping out of bed on T/R mornings to get a front row seat to listen to this brilliant woman. There is a lot of reading material, but it is all relevant and interesting. TAKE HER! (I'm a Kines major - this class is for everyone!)
She is seriously my favorite professor of all time! She insists on being called Katele and her lectures are the farthest thing from boring! The class is a lot of reading and you do need to study but trust me, take it! She goes above and beyond to make help you and make the class awesome. I'd recommend it to anyone! (I'm a microbiology major!!)
Katele is my favorite person in the world. Not only is she hilarious and adorable, her lectures are clear and easy to follow even though the material is hard. I feel spoiled having her my first semester of college, cause I can't imagine any other professor living up to her...!!!
Let me start by saying Katele is a great professor/teacher and is very funny. She brings in good speakers and is clear with lectures. HOWEVER this class is no joke. It is very difficult and requires a large commitment to a lot of work. If you are looking for an easy class look elsewhere as the average grade in the class is low. very few get Bs/As
Katele is fantastic. She makes an effort to learn almost every student's name, makes the class super interesting and fun. I actually looked forward to getting up and going to this class. She has strengthened my want to work in the criminal justice field. Everyone should take this class!!!!
A truly remarkable professor.
I recommend this course to anyone interested or not in legal studies. Katele has had such an impact on me and has inspired me to pursue a major or certificate in legal studies. She makes an effort to know everyone's names in the huge lectures. She makes power-lectures interesting and keeps your attention. Those who work hard will succeed.
If you have any interest in Criminal Justice, TAKE 131 WITH KATELE! By far the best and my favorite lecturer so far. She really wants to get to know you and help you as much as possible. go to office hours, she is an amazing person. Can't say enough wonderful things about her. BUT, definitely not an easy class. Worth the work you put into it.
Words cannot explain how phenomenal Katele is. She is so passionate about teaching and does an excellent job of conveying the material in an interesting, fun and dynamic manner. You cannot skip lecture but you will NOT want to. I will be taking another class of hers as soon as possible. The class is very tough but Katele's teaching is superb.
Katele is an absolutely fantastic lecturer. She makes class interesting and enjoyable to attend. I would recommend this class to EVERYONE who is even a little bit interested in Criminal Justice. However, this is an extremely difficult class, prepare to put a LOT of work in, but it's worth it. Make sure you don't put off studying for exams!
Katale makes lecture engaging and makes attending class enjoyable. If you attend lecture and read the assigned material you should have no trouble receiving an A. She is by far my favorite professor.I loved this class.
Very interesting class. Katele is great during lectures and brings in several high profile guest lecturers. The material is not too complicated, but the tests are harder than anticipated and really test to see if you know the details. Great class if you're interested in Law.
Great teacher. Amazing Class. Exams are hard but fair. Does not curve. Class averages are BC. Very interesting class.
There's a reason there are so many green faces for Katele. I left the last day with my jaw dragging on the floor. This class is a must-take in my opinion. Truly an inspirational lady that demands hard work and effort.
Katele is the best professor on campus hands down. I have never left a class and have been sad that there were no more lectures. I will truly miss this class.
Katele is the best professor I've had on campus. She is interesting, engaging, and thought-provoking. To top it off, she actually cares about her students and makes sure everyone feels like they understand the material. Even if it's outside of your major, take 131 with Katele! You certainly won't regret it.
