great sense of humor and lots of slides. Gives you the tools to pass her class. Has a very holistic view of the world.
I've taken over 100 units at OCC at she's on my top 5 teacher list. Organized, interesting, fun and a wealth of information on geography. She's motivated and obviously likes what she does. A true role model for young women.
She's very easy... Dont get freak out about the essay she give in the test because she will give you the topic so you can plan to write it on the test day. Her multiple choice guestion is straight foward and not tricky at all..
She's a great professor! She really helps you out before the tests with her study guides & gives you the essay ?s beforehand...also a very fair grader. Definitely take her class if you need to fulfill 1 of the science requirements for GE or just for f
She is the best teacher I have had at OCC, highly recommend her. Not necessarily an "easy" A but certainly possible if you come to class and take decent notes. Always willing to assist you with questions and gives extra credit, fun class!
Great teacher, very interesting class. Spells everything out that you need to do to get an "A" Lecturing style is a little fast and jumbled but lectures cover everything in exams which are very fair with extra credit!
She is one of the best teachers that I had in my life. She never let me to give up when I failed or when I was scared. She is very wonderful, respectful, inteligent, funny and the same time serious in her teaching. One thing,"Don't lie to her".

she is such a great teacher, by far the funniest one i've ever had. sometimes i feel like i am listening to stand up. she was also so knowledgable in the things she talked about and really made geography a fun for me. i loved the slides too!
She's very funny, which makes learning this stuff far more interesting. The subject matter is a bit overwhelming, but she grades very fairly & makes herself available to help you be more successful in her class. Two thumbs up!!
She's jumbled, disorganized, doesn't explain things thoroughly. If you like science and would like to read the full text book, do research on the internet and get together with friends to discuss, take this class!
I've never learned so much in one class. She move quickly and her class is rarely boring. It is very hard though. You have to show up nearly every time and take good notes. If you are interested in learning about the world this class will rock yours.
Her World class was much easier to me. I think she was in a hurry this semester to finish everything she had not completed before. I felt pushed to fast at the end and I learned less due to this. You will have much work out of class. Don't miss one day.
very good teacher, knows her stuff. Helpful and interesting. hot in a dorky way
LOve this class.

She convinced me to become a geography major! She has a sense of humor which makes her classes go by quickly. Make sure you do ALL the assignments, and study every subject on her study guides because she will test you on ALL the information.
Hard class, but great teacher. She has such a great sense of humor and she gets you pumped on Geography, which can be pretty boring.
SHES VERY CLEAR, MAKES CLASS FUN AND HAS A NICE PERSONALITY. EASY CLASS BUT THE THING THAT SUCKS IS YOU HAVE TO TAKE 20 PICTURES FOR SOME PROJECT YOU HAVE TO DO BUT ITS A COOL CLASS
She is very fun and make the subject quite interesting. Lots of information, but in definetly learnable. Highly recommended.
A nice lady, sometimes humourous and generally easy to get an A or B as long as you don't fall asleep. I hate the subject, but managed to get through without falling asleep.
Take her class if you'd like to learn & have fun. Irene's always in a good mood, though not an easy class. Very energetic, lots of stories, informative, enjoys her job, she only wants to help her students learn. She makes the subject fun. *Hot*
Irene is a great teacher who is very passionate about the world surrounding her. if you take notes, and put in effort before the midterm and final you should have no problem gettin an A.
Irene is awesome. She has fun analogies that help in understanding the info. I got an A in the summer. Just don't be late and pay attention in class. Take notes and read that topic in the book. I thought she was great. I had a great time with her.
She is so into what she teaches that you can't help but enjoy it and learn from her. But she expects you to put in as much effort as she does. I loved this class that I expected to really dread.
She is a very interesting teacher with a lot of clear real life examples. The tests are kind of difficult but if you study the study guide she hands out before each test you will do fine. Most everything you will need to know comes from the lectures.
Shes an awesome teacher! Geog was a lot more interesting than i anticipated & she makes it fun. Go to class & take good notes & you wont have to read the book for tests. the study guide lays out EVERYTHING, so no surprises. There arent many assignments, so do them all. offers some fun extra credit.
She is really nice and is always available for questions. You must attend everyday and take good notes. She is a great teacher, not boring at all!
Great lady. Nice Helpful. Just take notes and you wont have to read the book. Feild trip for extra credit and other fun things. Class was great, and she made it fun.
Fun class, not too hard. nice and attractive teacher.
The best teacher I've had throughout the 2&1/2 at OCC. She offers alot of extra credit and her lectures are the best. The only thing to worry about is the Geography Journal that involves looking at news for 30 days. Overall a great teacher!
A great teacher overall. She makes class discussion interesting and tells stories from her experiences...very interesting class. Don't be late and do the 30 day geography journal and you'll do fine in the class.
AWESOME instructor. Makes a boring topic VERY interesting. I took her 100 class and I came back for 180. Lots of FUN extra credit. She lets you know EXACTLY what she expects from you. Tests are a mix of multi-choice, short answer and essay but she gives you the essay questions in advance of the test
i put more of an effort in class just because she was so nice. the tests are fairly intimadating, it covers a lot of materials, but drop the party the night before to cram and you should be fine.
I thought that her policies were faulty. I was late to class and she had locked the door? I found her to be somewhat pretentious which is odd considering she teaches geography. Her class was uninformative, lackluster, and failed to 'keep it real.'
Great class. I thought geography would be boring, but she makes it interesting and has a great way of teaching that makes things clear and concise and stick in your mind. She is very organized and uses a variety of teching methods during class. Lots of work, but not difficult work. Syudy the exam gu
Took her for 180 and had to get her again. She is by far the best Geo teacher I have ever had, she says what she means and lays down the law. Big deal she just wants the same respect she gives you.........Pretentious, NOT even close to the way she is. She's just FIRM big deal and she does CARE......
Best teacher ever! If you haven't decided on a major then take one of her classes. You WILL become a geography major. Her classes are so interesting and her stories are fun, even when you've heard them more than once. She actually teaches things that are useful. Good field trips. Fast walker though.
I thought her teaching methods were extremely effective. She made the subject very interesting. I liked how she ran her class and did not put up with nonsense from some of the less dedicated students.
Very cool, very helpful. Study lecture notes and you got it. Book does not do her lectures justice. She cares about you learning even if you do not like GEO. You will leave this class with an interest in GEO because of Irene. Enjoy the Beer & Ice Irene. HAHAHAHA
just u need to take the good notes and study the study guide. she is so strict on correcting maps and homeworks. Be careful kind of boring too
Lots of material to over. Although lectures can be boring, take good notes during class. The book is a huge yawn of a read.
Wow. Huge work load. She gives out random quizzes. Worksheets practically every class night. Interactive assignments. She gives the greatest photo lectures ever. I happened to fail the class because I didn't do the required final test or the required final project. I learned a ton of information. The class is rigorous. And the tests are hard.
this is a class that you have to show up for, you miss it and you miss points. tests arn't that bad but they include writing, 3 short answers and an essay. her lectures are pretty funny though, she's nice.
follow the handouts she gives before a test, she will even help you with you answers and let you know what else to add. Take the time to write them out and study them. She is the greatest instructor in ALL of OCC. Take the pointers about writting essays and use in other classes, it really is helpful and she is a SUPER triple A professional......alw
She means well, but her lectures can be a little on the boring side. i attribute that to the subject matter though. she's amusing and the work isnt too much. just take notes and pay attention as best as you can. if you dont want to come to class, dont take this one.
i could have sworn i had this teacher for kindergarten. maybe its just cause they both spent half the class coloring. she is super nice and means well but her class is super boring and there is a huge photo project at the end that you CANNOT put off. and she's like 6'2"
Irene was great! I learned a lot in this class... even though I can't stand geography, she made it as interesting as possible. LOTS of coloring that became very tedious, but obviously very easy to do. I learned that Fosters is DEFINITELY not Australian for beer. ;)
Awesome teacher, very passionate about subject. Very funny. Very helpful and clear on what she expects. expects alot. "Community college is not easy college, its cheap college" she said in the first meeting. I learned a lot and not just useless info, but interesting stuff you can apply to life. Great visuals, easy grader as long as u put effort in
she's awesome. Be prepared to take notes. u will run out of paper a lot information will help on tests). she's very organized and gives great extra credit oppurtunities.if u do the walk in L.A., asthmatics beware of angeles flight and the hills. inhaler and water highly recommended. the maps do take a lot of time but they're worth it.very kind lad
Very interesting class. Learned a lot to apply to real life situations. Now I know where the Santa Anas come from!
It's quite boring for the first forty minutes. Must have coffee before class. Pay attention, and do labs, test are just like the classwork. She takes geography seriously
I took her cultural geography class and geog. 180L. She is an excellent teacher and the reason I decided to major in geography. Yes, she is very funny and always willing to help.
Three hours of geography is torture. Boring class but it had its moments sometimes. Easy to get a good grade in and she gives opportunities to get extra credit.
She's exactly the kind of teacher you need. She is tough, yet fair. She teaches w/ powerpoint and is very passionate about Geog. If you want to learn about Geog, you will. Her exams are not tricky, and so long as you read and attend class. "San Clemente has the best weather."
This class was not about Geography so much as it was about her. It was hard to sit through every class. Her lectures are dull and slide shows are duller. If you like snotty instructors, copying from a power point and having lots of homework. I reccomend this class. Otherwise I would reccomend another teacher.
Her class is not so hard, you just have to be on top of homeworks and specially the GEO jurnal (30 days research) She does tell you exactly what she expects from you. Tests are hard if you dont read or study notes/maps.
Ms. Naesse is a great teacher, she explains things very clearly, and the class is fun to sit through. She doesn't assign much homework except a few assignments and the final project. She very much enjoys the subject, and it's a fun class, just make sure you study your notes for the tests, and do the map packets....and color them, extra points ;).

fascinating class. didn't know it would actually be fun.
fun class. shes really cool and nice. easy to follow notes on a power point. but you need to add your own notes. pretty easy if you actually try. shes funny and makes the class interesting. im happy to be able to identify places a lot easier now. its pretty pathetic how bad americans are with geography.
Good teacher, well organized, a little tricky, but just try, shes very helpful and compassionate about her work. Fun stories, she made it interesting.
Very fun class, she is a very good lecturer, very interesting topics. A lot of homework though. But if you go to class regurlarly then it makes it easier for the tests
There is a lot information in this class. It's not that she's a bad teacher, but I think she goes into way too much detail than this type of class should have. Sometimes there's a lot to memorize.
Funny Teacher. Typical SoCal female type. Very smart. The class is very interesting! Do all your work.
expects you to actually attend class (there's an idea for you!). go to lectures, pay attention - follow lectures and take good notes you'll get a good grade. Test main essay question is always from a lecture - DONT DITCH CLASS! would take again. Makes me laugh with her "LA is SO GHETTO and they get shot" mentality - thats the OC for you though!
This class is interesting, it isn't hard to get an A. Just show up, do the assignments, study ur notes, n read the text. There are no surprises on her tests, everything is from her powerpoint n just a few from the text. She seems very intimidating at first but she's actually very nice n very intelligent. I enjoyed this class n learned a lot.
Jeez does she like geography. Go to class and do the assignments or u r dead. Learned a lot. She is nice to.
Okay, the way I see it about 99% of people who are taking this class are doing so to check a box on their GE requirements. If you are among that 99% DO NOT take this class. Especially if you have a job and a life outside of school. Lectures are boring, LOTS of Homework, 3 large projects, and A 20-page photo essay. Take the class with someone els
I thought i'd be bored stiff but taking this class has made me consider changing my major from Archit. to International studies! She is a very good teacher really loves the subject but i really dont know if id consider this class geography, i learned more about the people then the places. PS shes a pretty tough grader.
tough but not as tough as she says she is. She keeps a list of student that want to sell their books so you can get a book for her class cheap. You HAVE to take really good notes and read a lot. She gives out a great stuy guid for her exams.
She is extremely fair and knows her subject very well. If you appreciate a dry sense of humor you will find her lectures and comments delightful. It is impossible to get a good grade in her classes without really understanding the material. If you are in college to learn I highly recommend her.
The first day I thought she was gonna be super tough but i was surprised to learn it wasnt that bad. She's really funny and likes the material. She shares her pictures and experiences from around the world and it makes you wanna travel
Great instructor. Very clear on what she expects from you and she will lay it all on the table the first day of class so you know what you are getting into. You do have to work for your A but she will help you every step of the way.
I really enjoyed this class. Professor is a little uptight but her lectures are really interesting. Homework is pretty easy. Study for the exams and essays and you'll do fine.
SHE IS THE BEST TEACHER EVER .... i've never enjoyed a class as much as i enjoyed hers...take good notes , you'll get an A ...take this class, she opens a whole new door to your view of this world...she is GREAT...
my favorite class. she loves this stuff. irene is the best.
She's so FUN to listen to! She issues a Final Project to us and it was pretty easy. She's kinda strict on grading. She gives you a study guide and tells u the essay Q's that gonna be on test. Also she offers a lot of EC!
I love her stories! They're so fun. And she has tons of self-respect. I don't know what that other guy is talking about. I learned more in her class than any other class I took that semester. I knew nothing about geography before her class, now I'm switching my major to Geography!!!
This is a very interesting class. She really knows what she's talking about and usually has a story or two to go along with the subjects that she is explaining. This is one of my favorite classes. She is actually interested in helping us learn! There is a decent amount of homework, but the assignments are all interesting.
This was my favorite class of the semester!! She makes the class so interesting and fun. The final project she assigns is great, you learn so much from it. She shares some good stories along with her lectures and she's very clear on what she expects from you. Assignments are not difficult and she gives study guides for the tests. Great instructor!
Very interesting class with extensive outside-of-class work, including presentation projects. Lectures are relatively monotonous, and generally follow the textbook material. Exams are difficult, but not impossible, so in other words the class requires study. Interesting subject, fair grading and testing, probably requires 10 hours per week for A
Anyone that wants to learn about the world around them and become a more knowledgeable member of society should absolutely take ANY of Ms. Naesse's courses. She is the best professor I have had yet.
Class isn't hard if you study. Be on her good side and you're ok...Class can be great at times and pretty boring at others. She tells awesome stories though. Reasonable amount of homework, test are straight forward. I dont know why people think she's hot....take her honors section if you need the honors credits
HOT? really I have no clue what kind of people rate this teachers but I had her boring class and I can tell you right now NO WAY her class made me cringe everyday her lectures made me rethink calling other teachers boring and the test were hard but she felt they were ok for a !00 level class i mean come on waste of time AVOID
great class. miss naesse was my favorite teacher. hard if you do't study. my bf thought she was hot.
Do not take this class if you are a night student! This lady has so much homework it is unreal. There is homework due each week, other projects due, and a final project. No group work which is a good thing. The classes are mundane. She is your sterotypical powerpoint teacher. No room for fun or leaving early...extremely by the book!
I've taken 3 of her classes. If you actually want to learn the material take her. 185 is a lot of work, but very interesting. She is very passionate geography, has great stories, and is upfront about what she expects from her students. She convinced me to change my major to Goegraphy. Helpful, and funny. Expect to turn in all work for an A.
Take this class if you do NOT want to get an A. She gave me lower grades than I deserved the three times that I have taken her. In one of the classes I even got an A on every single test and she still did not give me an A. She can be interesting at times and yes she is passionate about what she teaches.
I took the lab with her. The class is very straightforward and she is really helpful. Be in class, follow the directions and study and this class is an easy A.
This is the worst class I have ever taken. The teacher is not helpful and not nice!! This class is so much work and so boring..nothing makes sense. She gives you a 20 page photo essay and grades unfairly on it. she also gives you a pop quiz any time a cell phone rings.Dont take her class if you dont have too! it is torture!!!!!
This class was definitely a lot of work. i studied a lot for the tests, and turned in all the assigned homework but i still got a C. she is very helpful and passionate about geography. oh and make sure you turn your cell phone off in class. if it goes off, there is a pop quiz no matter what.
A decent professor. Goes over the top with the work I think, but still grades pretty easy. Though her tests grading sometimes is varied and inconsistent. Overall still a boring class though for the most part. But it's probably one of the better classes for a physical science. She is nice but really just too much pointless work. Textbook not needed.
sweet class. it was actually fun to come to class. not east but just follow the damn instructions and get a A. oddly funny too.
Lab class was really easy. Its tedious work but very simple. I was enrolled in Prof. Tarlos' GEOG 180 class at the same time, which was very helpful and I highly recommend it.
she is really cool
Dont take this class!!!I am a 3.5 gpa student...I do not understand how she grades...When you ask her a question she smiles at you and talks to you like your a child...Very fake personality!!!
THIS TEACHER IS RIDICULOUS! I TOOK HER 1 UNIT LAB CLASS AND SHE TREATS IT AS IF IT WERE A 5 UNIT CLASS,SHE DOESNT EVEN TEACH SHE JUST READS FROM HER DUMB LITTLE BOOK AND OFF THE BOARD AND THAN TELLS US TO DO IT ON OUR OWN, IF YOU LIKE GEOGRAPHY PICK A DIFFRENT PROFFESOR SHE IS A WASTE OF YOUR TIME AND YOU WILL END UP HATING GEOGRAPHY! JUST LIKE I
What an idiot that last guy is. There isn't even a geog 170 class. The lab is so f-ing easy. The tests are just like the exercises.
This lady is not fun at all, good luck getting an A if you try because its impossible. She teaches you something once then expects you to have it memorized, and she seems to take teaching much to serious to be teaching at a community college. this lady needs to go away.
Way cool and crystal clear on everything. Has a great way of explaining things. Expectations are very well explained. Can't get lost in any of her classes.
She's really cool. She made the class INTERESTING! I thought I would hate this it, but the class quickly became my favorite. She's really good at telling stories and they are her main method of teaching. She's clear on what she expects, gives thorough study guides for tests, and gives ample warning when things are due. Assigns some busy work.
i loved her. easy class. just take notes and study from them. she GIVES you the essay questions that will be on the test. You have to be an idiot to not pass this class.
i think professor naesse does a good job teaching the material in class but she acts as if the class is a 5 unit class! WAY too much hw and projects!! and she treats the class like we are in kindergarten too. very hard class to get an A in. don't take this professor unless you like having no time to think of anything else but geography.
This class was way interesting. You learn a ton of things about the entire world and it makes me want to learn even more and travel. She's pretty funny with her sarcasm and her stories but if u talk to her one on one she seems fake but oh well. There's a lot of work but its stuff anyone can do and u learn a lot from it
This class was tough for me because it was hard to focus with people talking all around me as people will do when they are allowed to work together. Irene and her extremely helpful lab assistant will help you with every single question on each lab if you need it though. They are awesome.
She is an very invested teacher who obviously loves this subject, and cleverly MAKES you learn it. A lot of note taking and need for comprehension.
Okay, this class is introduction to geography, but she gives you too much material like she teaches Geog. Majors. do not take this prof. if you are not interested in this subject and just taking for GE/Credit. her assignments aren't hard but they consume TOO MUCH TIME! here's my final thought:"NOT RECOMMENDED."
I dropped her class because she just assumes everyone in class loves geography, when we are just there to GET CREDIT. more than half of her lecture is basically trash. and she wants you to attend every class, felt like back high school. I agree with the guy under me. DO NOT take her.
SHE'S HONESTLY AN AWESOME TEACHER! SHE'S NOT HARD UNLESS YOUR LAZY. JUST ATTEND THE CLASSES AND YOU WON'T HAVE A PROBLEM. SHE'S FUNNY; THERE WASNT A CLASS WHERE I DIDNT LAUGH. HER SLIDES ARE COLORFUL AND SHE ALWAYS KEEPS YOUR ATTENTION. THERES QUITE A FEW HANDOUTS, BUT THEY ARE SUPER EASY SO YOU GET EASY POINTS. ALL OF HER POP QUIZZES ARE OPEN BOOK
She's one of the hotter professor. Way chill. Difficult tests. Give a pop quiz whenever a cell phone goes off. Has funny stories with boring lectures
Loved this class! Very interesting.. Would be hard for someone that is not interested in geography cause there is alot of info..took a full notebook of notes, but if you show up and study should be really easy for you..would recommend!
She is a GREAT teacher, she goes over the assignments. Is clear on what is expected, reminds students about upcoming course work. Never boring, very nice and knows her subject thoroughly. I would take this class again just to defer my student loans.
SO hard. Ive been at occ for 3 years and ive never had to study so much! so much material that you are expected to know!
Very hard teacher. Obvious that she loves what she's teaching, but assumes that the students do as well, when about 95% of them are only taking it for GE requirements. Gives a big semester project, her tests are difficult and they have essay questions. Take her if you're majoring in Geography. If not, I recommend looking elsewhere.
Hard class but intresting. She tells you what will be on exams. Great stories.
Such a hard class. I respect her as a teacher and love to hear her lectures. Tests are really hard and you should expect to study a lot and put forth a lot of effort. Not an easy A, thats for sure.
You have a better chance if you just listen to her lectures and study your notes. Only problem is she will have u writing notes the entire time. She enjoys hearing herself tall and you need to be very specific on your test because if you don't use the vocabulary she wants you will be marked down. Also fallow her study guides or you will be screwed
Awful experience: I was interested in Geog before her class and ended up hating it! She is cold and appears as though she couldn't care less about the students, especially dislikes female students. Unreasonable tests and class policies(any cell ringing= pop quiz 4 ALL)& forces you to buy an expensive text book which you use TWICE. No thanks!
She is by far the best teacher I've ever had. I enjoyed geography before but now I LOVE IT. She is tough and she makes you work for your grade. If you're lazy and looking for an easy A don't take this class. I recommend writing down everything she say in her lectures. She is hilarious in class and so helpful.
Naesse was a great teacher! If you show up to every class and take notes you'll do great in the class. She gives some extra credit, but only if you have good attendance and no missing assignments. Her tests are easy if you pay attention in class, and she gives you the short essay questions ahead of time to study for.
SO HARD! She's VERY passionate about geography and makes class very interesting. However,HER TESTS ARE SO HARD! And there's SO much work! I spent more time doing work/studying for this class then I spent doing calculus homework.I showed up to every class, studied for every test, and still ended up with a D.
SO HARD!!! Ridiculous amount of work. HUGE project. Tests are extremely hard..this class is definitely not easy. I recomment not taking this teacher.
Naesse is the best teacher I've had here at OCC. This is the second class I have taken with her. She loves what she is teaching and wants the class to as well. Some tips: -Take good notes with dates. - Use the detailed study guide to your advantage. - Don't procrastinate on your final project. -Don't buy the book. Use the library's copy.
Mrs. Naesse made me love geography! She makes the subject extremely interesting and always shares very interesting and funny stories that help the information stick. She does grade on the harder side, but if you put in the time to study and take good notes and ask her questions, they can be pretty easy! Overall a wonderful teacher and class!
NAESSE CLASS ARE FUN AND YOU LEARN ALOT. THOUGH HER TESTS ARE HARD AND SHE GRADES HER ASSIGNMENTS HARD. YOU SPEND A LOT OF TIME DOING HER H.W. YOU MUST BUY THE BOOKS TO PASS. SO MUCH INFORMATION FROM THE BOOKS AND NOTES THAT ARE ON TESTS. BUT YOU WILL LEARN ALOT PLUS HER CLASSES ARE FUN. YOU CANT SLACK ON H.W. OR WILL HURT YOUR GRADE. POWERPOINTS.
Extremely hard class. LOTS of work & very difficult tests. 16 page photo essay. She expects a LOT out of students. I worked/studied so hard & didn't pass. The next semester when I retook it, half the students were retaking this class from this teacher.
I'm a straight A student and thought her class was difficult. She covers a massive amount of material and isn't clear on what is on the test. She is a VERY HARD GRADER and gives massive amounts of homework. Her lectures can be interesting though, but I wouldn't recommend anyone to take her class. Many students don't pass her class.
If you want an easy class....this is not it. Work load is insane..expects a LOT out of students. Nice teacher but very hard class...I do not recommend if it is for your GE.
Irene is a good teacher that starts off the semester with very detailed lecture notes that are very helpful on the tests but tends to lose track of time and towards the end of the semester she gives lectures that has HUGE amounts of info in them and does not explain very well. I did not have the text book for this class and still ended up with a B
Her class consists of 3 tests, some easy readings, 5 map packets, and a paper about a country. Everything is easy but time consuming. It is essential to not procrastinate on the paper or else you will hate your life. Her lectures are usually pretty boring, but it's very laid back. I didn't really use the book, but the atlas was handy for the maps.
Extremely good teacher, however she covers a lot of material and the class isn't for wimps. Her expectations are clear and she gives you plenty of time to finish work...if you don't procrastinate. If you want to truly learn geography and aren't just in for the grade, this is your teacher. Tests are a bit hard, but study!
unless you are a geog major forget this teacher, shes lectures super fast, and could care less if half the class gets a D or f which according to her "happens often" long home work assignments for 1.5% really hard tests, covering huge amounts of material. forget taking this teacher or else you in for it
Professor Naesse is a great teacher. She can really caputre your attention in her interesting lectures. Her tests are hard if you study last minute, but she tells you about study groups to help you.
What you learn in class is only relavent to the written section of the test. I tried hard for nothing, i would not recomend this teacher. The grades do not reflect what you learnt in class at all! Half the things she says you will never need. Worse class i ever took period.
this class is very passable with an A without even using the textbook just show up to class everyday and take good notes because there 3 test and i notice all her test is base off notes at least 95% and 5 short answer question she literally tell u wat to write before test and 1 photo essay. I got an 88 without book, class not to hard at all
I love Prof. Naesse! Not only does she know EVERYTHING about Geography, but she is super helpful and explains things in such an easy-to-understand AND to remember way! There are like 2 homework assignments, and 4 exams, and there is no unexpected material on them. She always take time to explain and answer questions, you'll love her style!
She is a MUST take for Physical Geography!!! She is really nice and clear on her explanations!!! If you show up every class, do the work, the study guides AND study a few hours each day for the tests then you'll do great!! She tells hilarious stories on various topics in class and thats what makes the class so interesting and studying so easy.
Really easy class if you pay attention and take good notes! Homework is time consuming if you procrastinate. It took me 2 hours to complete a packet she gave us 2-3 weeks to finish. The exams are kind of hard but to be fair, I studied the night/morning before the exam using only my notes. And I only used the textbook once for a homework assignment
A teacher who actually cares about her students education. Uses life examples to make concepts easier to understand. Expects hard work since she provides you with everything you need to pass. Offers outside study sessions and office hours. Well respected professor I appreciate her teaching techniques. Her lessons are actually useful in real life
professor nasse is undoubtably one of the best professors I've taken at OCC. very clear in her expectations, very passionate in her lectures, and is genuinely excited on what she teaches. i never really thought much about geography but her passion for it made me excited to learn and made me really interested in geography. great professor!!!!!
YOU WILL NOT GET AN "A"!!!The class is not very hard, but DO NOT TAKE IF YOU WANT AN "A". Only one student got an "A" out of 70 total! I have two semesters of all "A" and now I might not get into UC Berkeley! The class is fine if you want a "B" or "C"
I repeat: ONLY ONE PERSON PER CLASS (of 60+) WILL GET AN A. 1/3 of my current class is failing (I know this because of the grade sheets she posts) She is a nice person with a likable personality however a terrible educator. Doesn't even use blackboard yet! Only class i don't have an A in. DO NOT TAKE. DO NOT TAKE. DO NOT TAKE. DO NOT TAKE.
It's not an easy class, but its not horribly difficult. She's a hilarious teacher who loves what she teaches. She's quite understanding, so talk to her!!! Barely touched the book, her lectures are everything you need for the tests.
the class is hard but it is interesting. she is very clear on her expectations and all of her lectures will help you with the exam. she helps you understand the material by relating it to daily life and is funny. not an easy A, but I would recommend her. shes clear, helpful, and interesting. her lectures are entertaining as well
Probably one of the sweetest teachers! She was my hardest class this semester; but, only because of the content and thorough understanding required of you. Irene is a phenomenal teacher that goes above and beyond for her students. Hardest but my favorite class this semester!
Very informative, helpful and nice as long as you pay attention and are respectful. She doesn't put up with nonesense. This class is really interesting, and if you take good solid notes, you'll do great. I skipped a lot of class and was lazy, but still got a B because I studied and paid attention when I did attend.
Really nice lady, great professor really cares about her class and what she does.
I can tell you this much about Irene and the course: YOU SET YOUR OWN DESTINY. Irene is there to help you but YOU must make the decision in the end because she isn't going to give that A to you unless you truly earn it. She's the example of what a job really is: you earn what you get. So study and work hard in her class and you will get that A.
Excellente instructor. Hard on grading, so don't miss any detail. The photo essay is very interesting, so don't panic. It is a fun project. Don't procrastinate and get started as soon as you have material for the first picture. Take excellent notes. Will make it easier to write your essays, and to study. Don't miss class.
I did not like her at ALL. I had all A's until this class. She talked about birth control and how she hated kids more than anything else. When religion came up she asked the class to share and she told me I was wrong in my opinion and after I stated what my beliefs were she gave me bad grades on EVERYHRING after that. STAY AWAY
Professor Naesse is passionate about the subject and gives enough adages that stick in memory. She offers numerous opportunities for extra credit and genuinely cares about the progress of students. Professors are not obligated to push you towards doing better but she does take time to go over who in your class have improved and how they did it.
She is very clear and organized in her lectures. Exactly what she teaches will be on her tests. She does assign a lot of busy work, so if you don't like to be rushed, at the latest start an assignment 1 12 days before its due. Take good notes in class, not a good ideas to miss because each class is very informative. Very essay, plus shes nice!
Class is very easy, that is, if you show up take notes and study for test, homework and assignments are very easy to finish and its best to finish them early in the semester so you'll have more time to study for test.
Irene likes to brag about her attendance and use it as an example to why she doesn't accept late work. She purposely makes the Final Project hard and unclear (which is 24% of your grade.) She enjoys talking about things that rarely have anything to do about the test. Her exams are designed to make you cringe. (average class grade for exam 1 was C.)
She's awesome and I love when she tells stories, she has a dry sense of humor. She's pretty clear with everything she expects and very very organized. But omg there was SO MUCH BUSY WORK. Coloring and labeling maps, taking pictures and putting together this tideous final project. Way too time consuming for my taste. Tests are hard, so study hard.
We covered a lot of material in this class and although this was a tough class, with all things considered this instructor has a good teaching method. Interesting subject but I still worked hard for my grade!
Very funny and organized in her lectures. She is the reason I switched to Geography major! Irene is not an easy grader- make sure you are in class, pay attention and FOLLOW the instructions, which she gives you plenty of. Take great notes, study them for exam and you will do great. Definitely start working on the final photo project early.
Best professor I ever had. Changed my major to geography right after this class! Definitely a lot of material but she teaches in such a unique way that it is really easy to understand. Definitely recommend taking her classes!
She is great. She enjoys participation. There is a lot of information to cover but if you get a study group and read you can get an A. She makes class interesting. Glad I took her.
Her lectures are filled with narcisism. :/ Grades you HARD and teaches you stuff you don't learn on tests. Example? Unclear final project worth 24% of your grade. So many failed the first exam too. Try to express your own opinions vs hers? She will be give a rude response in her own belief. Do not take this teacher unless you're okay with a B/C.
Yikes this teacher made a very uncomfortable remark about abortion.. The class went silent when she talked about why she did not like kids and how she was up for abortion during a lecture on country development. Her class was okay but too many times she let her rants go on.
Very clear on what she grades. Spend one hour after class to rewrite your notes from her lectures, do homework, and you'll be fine. The photo essay seemed pretty overwhelming at one point but turned out to be very easy (I finished it in three days). Not recommend for those who like to spend their time on Instagram instead of listening to her. :-)
She is my favorite professor however she is really tough grader Tests include short answer questions 5 short ans quest in each test you must answer 4 short ans quest Dont have a plan to get easily A because you must study hard for A grade in this class Photo essay is really crucial, dont ignore.
Do not take this class unless she's the absolute last resort. She is not the best professor when it comes to being organized. Sometimes her lectures were somewhat scrambled. You have to work extremely hard for an A/B on your own as most things she talks about is not on the exam. Tip: Review & focus on your maps gradually. Memorization is important.
I can't say enough great things about this lady! She gives funny lectures using short stories and nice pictures making it really enjoyable. I wish every professor would teach this way. You have to study hard and take a few pictures for a photo project, but after you do the information will register better and let you enjoy the world in a new way!
She was very laid back. Liked to tell personal stories that related to the subject. Her Exams were easy as long as you came to class every day and read the book. Had Short Answer Question on the Exams, which were given to you throughout the lectures. She grades a bit harsh, but you literally earned your grade in her class. Extra Credit Available!
Did not like her class. She acts nice on the first day but when it comes to raising your hand and asking questions when you need to, opinions over facts come out . Glad the semester is finally over
If this class is not your major, DONT TAKE this class. Her exams are extremely hard because she choses detail questions for optional answers of exam, she also asked short answer questions in exam that are trouble. She gives project,be ready to take picture outside the school. 12 pictures have to be taken from DIFFERENT UNITS of the book. DONT TAKE!
Very informative! Ended up being one of my favorite classes! Love her style of teaching. Did fall a little behind with homework (weekly) but that was my fault for not managing time well.
I love this lady! Absolutely my favorite teacher so far of my college career. Her lectures are exactly whats on the test so attendance is mandatory. The photo essay seems really overwhelming but if you go to lectures and prepare ahead its actually really easy. She's really easy to get ahold of and always willing to help!
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS GUYS, I have tried my best as a student for this class, and I still got B! JUST DONT!
She loves the busy work. Lots of time consuming projects were she gets to grade subjectively. Not hard just a waste of time for such easy subject matter.
This class is not easy but it is well worth it! I have never learned more or been more challenged by a subject matter. The lectures are interesting and extremely important for the tests. I never studied more and after getting an F on the first test ended the semester with a high B. I did my photo essay project and earned an A. Awesome Professor!
Do not take this class lightly despite the apparent ease of the subject material. Tests are very specific, if you don't put at least a couple of days you won't get very high marks. Photo essay will give you anxiety if you wait until the last moments, much of it is dependent on certain conditions, be sure to get it done before and verify with her.
There is no professor more passionate than Irene. She is respectful & gives 100% everyday, so she expects the same in return. Don't expect an easy A. Unlike some professors, she actually knows the material & is excited to pass on her knowledge in a fun, engaging way. Passes info along to students for internships and job opportunities as well.
I have taken all of Mrs. Naesse classes. Her classes are all very enjoyable. She is so passionate about what she speaks about and it makes the lectures so interesting and fun. Her classes made me think about a major in geography, although she would be bummed that i'm going into a major of history she did solidify that I will minor in geography.
I would not recommend this professor. She does not prepare you well for exams. And if you are a few seconds late in turning in a project, she will not accept it causing you to fail because it's a huge chunk of your grade. Horrible experience.
i took her class for geo100.. would not take again.. not friendly. she does not help me learn I ask her questions
My biggest gripe is the lectures that she gives. Her lectures are extremely dense, which I wouldn't mind if she didn't get side-tracked so easily. We would be learning about the various climates of Earth and she literally went off on a story about her vacation in South America for a good 15 min (seriously??) after that we had to rush the lecture.
Awful, just awful. If you have any interests outside of geography than don' take this intro class. She thinks its an Honors Class, and treats it as such. More homework, and mandatory field-trips than any class on campus. Final project depends on whether you have extra time to snap pictures at the far reaches of Orange County. If you have a job, RUN
Just hard...
Irene is a very nice lady, but she expects a lot out of the students. Its a good class, but extremely stressful. I would recommend taking this class with very few others. She answers questions and is available, but there is a lot busy work in this class that makes it hard to keep up with. Especially if you have other classes
If you are not planning on majoring in Geography... don't take this class. Biggest words of advice I can give you is make sure you bring a cup of coffee to her class because her lectures are going to bore you to sleep. I had a horrible experience.
I took this for GE, and even though I took years of geography in hs, I never loved the physical part of geo so I thought this class would be very boring, but I was def wrong. Irene is a lovely lady, she explains every detail of the subject very calmly and answers any questions you have. a lot of hw but they look harder then they are. Recommend 100%
Professor Naesse is the best professor at OCC; her online World Regional Geography class. This class is something I would recommend for those who are interested in learning about the languages and cultures of other countries. Lots of extra credit as well. Just pay attention to the lectures and the timed map quiz for each region. EASY A!
Really tough class and Proffesor makes an easy class be way to difficult
Don't even bother taking this class unless you like physically hating yourself. Her online situation is terrible, no time is made for any student to be able to get tests and homework completed. If you have work and you take this class, sorry but you're screwed and there are no exceptions for missing anything.
easy class, just wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much work with painful lectures and pointless yet time consuming assignments all the time. like the stupid 3 part atlas exercise that requires you to color a map like a 3rd grader and is always due the day after an exam that is already pretty chunky nice person, great grader, colossal waste of time/effort
long video lectures, you basically had to teach yourself. atlas exercise was due the same day as the test. lots of busy work including the photo essay that basically forced us to go outside and be around people during the pandemic
SO DRAINING. The lectures are long and there's like 5 assignments that are all due on test days, on top of the test itself. If u have a busy schedule I would opt out from taking this class. It's far too much. It requires you to basically teach yourself and the hw/discussions are dreadful. (just busy work) I got through the course w/o the textbook
I had her during the pandemic and it was so hard. I do not understand the purpose of all that busy work. Ive never worked so hard for a B in my life. My photo essay was perfection and I still got a B. I followed her directions to a T and she would give me nothing but positive feedback on assignments but then Bs as grades.. what?!
She is a great professor! She is really passionate about geography and shows incredible visuals of the places through her lectures!
I have never hated a class more. The professor gives you at least +6 video lectures and another 5 assignments for the sake of keeping you busy. Idk how it was offline but the online version of this course is extremely time-consuming especially if you have other classes to attend as well. Please do not take this class if you want something easy.
Easy A as long as you watch the lectures, pay attention, and take good notes. The map quizzes are straightforward and based off the lectures. She shares interesting stories from her own travels. Take this class so there's less ignorant Americas roaming around thinking Paris is a country or the capital of California is Los Angeles.
My favorite teacher at OCC so far. Super nice lady. Her lectures are very interesting to watch. I have learned a lot! But be ready to spend some time to watch lectures. If you do watch everything the class will be easy for you. Just do your homework and you'll get an easy A. Strongly recommend this teacher!
You can tell this professor means well and is nice. HOWEVER; in every lecture video she has her students watch; she talks to us as if we are 10 years old! It is so hard for me to concentrate when watching her lecture videos. Do not take this class if you want to feel like your in elementary school again and dont take if you want to watch 30m vids
Be ready to have a crazy amount of work. Also, very VERY hard grader. If you get behind because of an emergency. Drop this class. Some of the assignments wont make sense. ALWAYS stay ahead. If you are a day behind its like a snow ball of work and will drop your grade significantly. Do your atlas AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
Lots of discussions but each discussion has a chance of extra credit. Quiz every week with 5 attempts. Test week is pretty difficult since she assigns a test, a essay, short answer questions, and photo identification. Lots of lecture, probably one per day about 20-30 mins long. Have to watch them all or you'll be confused. Overall not a bad class.
I found her class to be the easiest one for me so far. She has a lot of lectures but she breaks them up into 20-30 min videos. The exams have different portions: an essay, short answers (which you work on at home and come directly from the lectures), multiple choice, etc. I've gotten an A in each assignment unlike other classes. Great course.
nice prof, but its a lot of work for a regular, non-honors class. if you're someone that procrastinates, don't take this class. other than that, she really cares for geography and science as a whole and I like taking her class, its just too much work (especially if you're not getting honors credit). extra credit, lecture based work/tests, sweet
She is incredibly passionate about geography, and she knows her stuff. There is a lot of work (maybe a little too much, Irene!), but if you try, it's fine. It's not an easy A, but if you're taking her class to actually learn, you'll value her style.
Professor Naesse is SO passionate about Geography. Her online lectures are fun and engaging. There is a good amount of homework and classwork but Professor is always willing to read any rough drafts for papers/SA questions and gives great feedback. Class is easy to follow along. AND she gives so much extra credit. You gotta work but worth it.
Probably one of the worst professors I've had. She is not understanding in any way, nor cooperative. The assignments are too heavy for a 3 credit class, and I started falling behind in others just to keep up. I do not recommend this professor.
Incredibly difficult to get information. sometimes 5 lectures in 1 week, unclear instructions, incredibly condescending. Thinks online study groups are cheating and will grade accordingly. Not understanding to situations at all. Only helped when I reminded her of my being autistic and my accommodations. Goes on random tangents in lectures.
She is a very kind person but GIVES A LOT OF WORK. For an online class that a lot of people take just for a GE requirement its too much work.
Assigns LOTS of homework, this class isn't an easy A. Do not take this class if you are taking multiple other classes that require a lot of work because this class will take up ALL YOUR TIME.
Her Lectures are very long, she likes to give out a lot of homework, THIS CLASS IS NOT A EASY "A", YOU NEED ALOT OF TIME AND focus to get an "A".
I am not sure why people are whining about workload. Everything is spelled out and we have plenty of time to do the work. I like that I can do the lectures at my own pace. Funny lectures and almost a motherly approach to her help.
Just know that this Professor will grade you down on all things unrelated to geography, including but not limited to capitalizing the word, "Sun." I did not do that but in a 38:55 lecture she tells us about her personal life, happy hour and to not Capitalize "Sun" otherwise get marked down.
Great Professor with interesting lectures. There is a lot of work for her online class but if you spread it out evenly it is very easy to complete. There are a ton of extra credit opportunities. Map quizzes aren't bad but you have to watch the lectures and read the assigned readings to score well. She is worth taking, good luck!
A GE class worth only 3 credits, you will do as much work as in all your other classes combined.
If you want to spend hours coloring 5 maps, and love hearing unrelated things in a 3-hour lesson (with 2 or 3 more bonus videos), if you love hiking or go to national park taking pictures of rocks, plants, landslide, if you love an exam with 4 parts: multiple choice, matching options, photo identify and big essay, welp, take this class
This professor has no limit. In giving homework, in her expectation, in her nonsense... She is very enthusiastic. But she prove that if you are living with something does not mean you can expect others love it just like you do. I take this class because I need GE class, but the effort I have to put in even more than combining 2 other main classes.
I do consider this class to be more work load heavy. But I believe if you pace yourself correctly and not do things last minute, you can get things done with a good grade. I think its easier to pass the class if you watch all the lectures and take notes. Her lectures are a little long, but really easy to understand. She really cares for this subject
This is a GEOGRAPHY class NOT English. The amount of work and essays assigned is ridiculous. If you love writing and taking over 20+ quizes, looking for a career in this,it maybe for you but if not, think twice about registering. Feedback is never clear or understanding. The grading is very crucial and difficult to meet the professors expectations.
I would never take a class with this professor again. Her class was very interesting and I was excited to get to learn, workload was not overboard and she graded fairly. Until, she did not accommodate work that I missed due to a death int he family causing me to fail the class.
Prepare for a heavy workload in this geography class. Lectures are engaging, but expect lots of essays, quizzes, and a challenging grading system. Stay on top of assignments to succeed. unstuckstudy ai can be a helpful study tool alongside the textbook.
I was not a fan of this Professor. Very heavy on quizzes. Make sure you get the books. If you listen to her lectures she's been recycling since 2019 its painful. Her online lectures are best played at 2x speed because shes reading her notes likes its story time in kindergarten.
I would NEVER recommend this professor. Everything in this class is a riddle and nothing is straight forward which is horrible for someone like me. Lectures were recorded and ranged from 1-6 hours long. Frequently makes errors on quizzes and blames you for getting it wrong. 8 assignments due in one day every month. No read material. I struggled.
Assigns 5+ part exams to be done in 24 hours and large 3 part assignments all due the same day. If you ask for help or accommodation because of illness or personal issues you will be told no. So condescending and unhelpful- if I ever hear "geographers" or "REMEMBER the high is dry" in her preschool voice again I'm going into flight or fight mode.
This is in my major so maybe I am biased. Yes theres a lot of work but i would rather have that than reading a text. And there are instructions for everything (ok maybe too many instructions). She likes this stuff and it shows.
Great professor, but a tough grader.
Literally the most workload I've ever seen in a class. Why is one exam 8 parts and all due within a 24 hour period to it being accessed? There is no reason for there to be this much assigned for ONE class. Unless you're looking to be a geographer, DO NOT take this class. Just because it's online, doesn't mean it has to have more work.
She's a very nice teacher but the work load for her online courses are a bit much. I've honestly lost count on how many essays I've written for this class. But she does provide everything for you it's just a lot so do not take this class with a bunch of other classes. The work load is almost equivalent to taking two classes.
If you want to jump off a cliff, then take this class bruh. Hella tests and unfair grading.
If you are looking to take this class for a gen ed and you are not a geography major I do not recommend. This class was very tough with a lot of work. I had an issue opening a pdf for one of the exams and the professor emailed me back four days later saying I should have been able to open it. Definitely the hardest online class I've ever taken.
As a non geography major, DONT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS THIS IS YOUR MAJOR. The workload is the heaviest I've ever had- 3 major 3 part exams with 3 atlas assignments and an essay for each exam, plus a photo essay. I learned a lot but it felt excessive for a gen ed . Exam weeks gave me countless hours of HW. Save your time and don't take this class.
The work load for this online class was insane. So many essays! The extra credit offered took forever to complete. Wouldn't recommend
I don't know if she is strict about grading or what but tell me why she's literally grading low on ALL ESSAYS in GEOGRAPHY.Her class work is heavy only because she acts like this is aerospace engineering class. She doesn't even show up on zoom. This class sucks.Don't take it.I'd give it zero if I can.
