Worst professor in FIU. Reads everything of slides/ attendance is mandatory because she places questions throughout the slides which we have to answer with an iclicker. overall pretty easy class. you dont need a text/ no review but she gives practice test with no limit which you can then use as a review. test questions come straight from there.
Not a very good professor she just reads off the slides. Easy class if you can stand her accent.
She is a great teacher. She explains everything well and makes the material easy. The practice test help a lot for the exams. She gives tons of extra credit. Definitely would take her again
I took this professor during summer. She wasn't helpful at all. Reads off the slides but you must attend class cause she gives Iclicker points. You must read her notes and memorize everything literally and do her practice exams or you won't pass
Awesome professor! Memorize and study practice tests to ensure a good test grade. Very happy and easy going. Tries to help students pass by guiding them in every assignment.
She is one of the best professors that I met so far! If you are willing to study, you're going to get an A for sure. All you have to do is go to class for the iClicker questions, do your homework (super easy), and take 5 sona credits for the extra credits! You really need to study just for the exams. Take her!
Professor Fredericks is kind. I don't like her multiple choice tests, I preffered to memorize off of her practice tests. She is a wonderful person who is always smiling and she gives a lot of extra credit. We had to pay a lot for a program called learn smart; which is not effective.
Tests are easy. Study the notes that she gives. You NEED to be in class. Notes that are in red will be on the tests. LearnSmart Assignment was time consuming. But it helped in understanding the material. Discussions were easy, just 100 words. She is really nice and likes for students to participate in class.
I'm not a fan of papers, and I've heard this course is tough but honestly she made the course 10x easier than it should have been. Gives you so many examples on how she wants the paper written and you go over it so many times, it's hard to mess up. Gives 20 extra credit points, quizzes not too hard as long as you go to class.
I loved her class. If you skip class, you wont pass. Her exams are based on her lectures and she tells you EXACTLY what to study. You absolutely can't miss it. She's really nice, and very helpful. She also does i-clickers every class and it is a part of your grade so you should show up and get those free points. She's always smiling, very sweet.
Take her!! She's very sweet and her lectures on positive psychology are amazing . The class is super easy. No midterm or final , just homework and a 10 page self-improvement project. Also, a group project on the chapters in the book, fairly easy. I-clicker for attendance is five points . If you don't do the paper you fail the course. Super easy A !
All her power points are straight from the text book. Attendance is required If you would like to pass. Requires you to buy an Iclicker, isn't very helpful when asked questions. Doesn't allow phones or computers to be used. Drops some of your lowest grades and she's pretty attractive for her age lol
Can you copy down notes and answer simple multiple choice questions? Congratulations on an A. Irina Fredricks is a great professor, who approaches teaching greatly. I was shocked when I realized she addressed all of us by name two weeks into the course. I highly recommend this class, but you WILL have to purchase a new book and an iClicker ($130).
Her tests are easy if you study, they are basic and straight to the point questions. If you pay attention in class, you can't fail. She rarely answers your question in class but whatever she doesn't explain can be found in the book. You have to do an 80 question learn smart assignment every week but these are helpful for the tests. Overall great
Such a knowledgeable teacher. Her power points are helpful. There are no surprises on the tests. She prepares you really well for them. Gives extra credit. As long as you do what a student is supposed to do (study, read) it will be an easy A. Attendance is mandatory, she uses an iclicker. 4 tests, drops lowest. And 1 cumulative final.
Dr. Fredericks is a straight shooter, she will not baby you. You have to really work for your grade. She responds to emails quickly and is willing to stay after class if you need the help. Iclicker points are imortant & everything thats red in her lecture notes are on the quiz Despite what everyone says she's my favorite professor at FIU
I love Dr. Fredericks!! She is very clear about what she expects out of students and I learned so much from her class. She uses iClicker points for attendance and participation. There are no surprises on her tests. She gives a cumulative final exam but also gives enough extra credit to replace the final exam! Can't wait to take her again.
Great Professor! I have taken her for CHildrens learning, psychology of adolescence and now senior seminar. Very clear in what she expects from her. She is very knowledgeable and gives 10 whole points in extra credit!!!! Attendance is mandatory as she uses iClicker. You do not need the textbook because she provides all the information you will need
She's a great professor! Her class is very interesting and notes are color coded to know what exactly is going to be on her exams. Her exams are very straight forward and no trick questions. She uses iClickersS, so be in class everyday to get extra credit points and she assigns homework due every Friday of each week but its not hard just tedious.
long lectures however the notes she gives you is basically the test
Draws from her personal experience in the field of psychology. Lectures are incredibly interesting. Very interactive with her students. Accent is easy to get used to. Be prepared to be called on to answer questions. No cellphone policy, severely enforced. Homework is mostly online. GET THE ONLINE TEXTBOOK! Seriously it's a lifesaver!
I really like this professor, her powerpoints are colored so you KNOW what to study for the texts, attendance matters which she knows by using iclickers. She reviews and asks EACH person in the class questions about the chapter before moving on. 1 discussion post every few weeks, please don't be disrespectful or take pics of her slides.
Just took this professor for my senior seminar (Psychology of Happiness) by far the best class I have ever taken. We only meet once a week, so attendance is mandatory. Easy pts.(iClicker) 10 quizzes (open book, open notes), 10 HW assignments(1-2pgs each), a 10 pg term paper, and a group presentation. Show up & do your assignments easy A!
1 pt per day via i-clicker (10% of grade) 4 discussion posts (20%) 4 exams- drops 1 (60%) cumulative final (10%) provides extra credit through sona (up to 5% increase) or a paper. Her lectures are via powerpoint (she highlights what's gonna be on the exam) so show up, take notes, do assignments and it should be a breeze!
Attendance is mandatory and graded with iclicker questions. Since ppl were skipping class to finish papers she moved the due dates 1-2 days earlier. This is after the last drop date. Textbook not needed everything is on the PPP she provides. Makes you participate so be prepared. Overall, she's funny and a good professor.
Great professor, truly knowleageable on the subject. Has a true gift of explaining and engaging the class to better understand the topics. This is not an easy course, but her feedback and help throughout the course are a huge help. Love her diligence and the way she is on point. Highly recommend!! :):)
Her test are 100% the notes she gives you. Plus she makes the material fun to learn. Come with an open mind
Bad professor, she reads off the slides in classes, skips them too fast, and does not give any access to them! Here is the worst part, if you take a picture of the slide she says she has the right to kick you out of class! We are here to learn not to be punished for trying to grasp every bit of information to pass! Do not take her!
Honestly, the grading is straight forward. Group discussion and 5 Exams. Drops one of each. Annoying thing is note taking is IMPORTANT! She doesn't allow pictures to be taken of slides. Which sucks cause she goes fast!! Not enjoyable, iclickers needed
She is a good professor. Explains everything well, and if something is unclear, then you can email her. She is really good on emails! Her class is pretty straightforward, along with the syllabus. I had her for senior seminar, its not bad, its just a lot of stuff.
Great teacher!! She knows exactly what she is doing and she explains it very thoroughly. If you don't get a B or above, it is honestly your fault. Her grading is very clear, 5 group discussions and 5 exams, she drops the lowest of each.
This professor is great! She really TEACHES the material and makes everything as relate-able as possible. She uses a combination of teaching methods so class attendance is a must. Grades are posted the same day, clear, concise & fair. She knows everyone by name I will be taking more of her classes !
best senior seminar professor ever! Not an easy A but if you follow all instructions it will be an easy class. No exams, discussion every week, 1 big paper due at the beginning of semester but you do it in a group along with a video, and gives 10 whole points of extra credit. Replies to email within the hour or so. Great professor!
Great professor. There's 5 exams but she drops the lowest one. She doesn't take attendance but there are i-clicker questions everyday so you kinda have to show up. Definitely would take her again
Great professor! She teaches using powerpoints and if you take notes on it, then study them for the test, you'll get an A. There are quite a few online homework assignments, but they're definitely not hard. The prof. makes the class interesting and she seems like she really cares about what she's teaching which is always nice to see.
I love her. She's a very good professor. If you pay attention in class then you will do great. Go to class for i clicker points. She will spot your friend with your i clicker so there's no tricking her. She won't let you take pictures of the slides but thats understandable. Go to class, take good notes, do the homework and you should be fine.
She's great a professor taking her again next semester. I-CLICKER mandatory, ATTENDANCE MANDATORY, takes attendance with I-clicker, text book not needed just a code for launch pad, tests are based on NOTES!!! taking NOTES is very important in this class, gives plenty of extra credits.. teach based on power point.. each professor.
This professor is really great! Take notes in her class the tests are based on the notes! She highlights in red the things that you need to study during her notes. ALWAYS silence your phones during class! Attendance is mandatory & taken with i-clickers. Don't be late to class. You have 4 group discussions & LearnSmart assignments, too.
First teacher that actually makes you learn. Her lectures provide a lot of information which is why her mandatory attendance really reflects your learning. Definitely worth the teacher to take. Make sure you have your i-clicker ready!
Professor Fredericks is easily one of the best professors and teachers I have ever had. She is so informative, and she makes the information interesting. She gives clear instruction to what she expects and she also during her lectures has the key points highlighted in red. Just follow her instructions. If you're lazy, you won't pass. Amazing Prof
Prof. Fredericks is so sweet, caring, and humorous. She really knows her course material and makes sure students know her rules and expectations. Attendance is 10% of your grade, so although it isn't mandatory (unless you're doing a group project), it benefits the student to be in class. Great lectures and easy extra-credit. Definitely recommend.
Do everything she asks for and you wont need to do the extra credit. She is not fond on excuses. Her power points, lectures, and iclicker questions are gold when taking her exams.
Although the class itself wasn't difficult, I would NEVER take her again. She's rude, and makes slick remarks. She's like a robot. And she speeds through the power points. God forbid you take a picture of her slides, she'll call you out.
One of the first things she did in class was to complain because she doesn't have an office because she's not a full-time professor... She reads from her slides, which are full of mistakes and spelling mistakes, without a deep understanding of what she is teaching. She is always trying to show how much she knows and gets frustrated easily.
She knows what she's talking about and gives great examples to help further your understanding of the topic. She also outlines in red what will be on the exam and goes above and beyond by posting "guiding questions" that are a perfect study guide. Class is not hard at all and she's very nice .
Ive had her for developmental psych and now adolescent psych. Shes by far the best professor Ive had. Attendance is mandatory because of iclicker but I always wanted to go anyways because her lectures are amazing. Shes funny and really wants you to learn from her class. Her online assignments are easy. Just study for tests and youre good.
Professor Fredericks is an amazing and understanding teacher! This is the hardest class of the psych major but Fredericks makes it so easy. Gives extreme details for the papers (5 that all go off the last), lots of EC, and great feedback. Her power points are very clear, no textbook, all you need is SPSS software for the papers.
This professor is really though grader, She gives you the notes to study but the exams are a little trick so you have to read the question very well. It is mandatory to go to your class and if you miss it, you will lose points from your final grade. You need to use iclicker and if you dont bring to class, she wont give you assistance.
She is a fantastic teacher and gives great lectures every class. Even though the class lasted an hour and 15 minutes, she was able to make it interesting the entire time. She gives a good deal of homework but it's all easy enough and if you do it and pay attention in class you should be able to get an A.
Her exam is not easy
If you are a psych major or you have to take this class I recommend you take her class. Make sure you purchase the ICLICKER because it counts a lot towards your participation grade. Be prepared to take A LOT of notes, everything that is in your notes will be on the quizzes and test so make sure you study. You won't doze off in this class.
HER EXPECTATIONS ON PAPERS ARE RIDICULOUS, VERY TOUGH GRADER, DOESN'T EXPLAIN THINGS PROPERLY, SHE JUST EXPECT US TO ALREADY KNOW WHAT SHE'S TALKING ABOUT.
She clearly isn't confident about her class. She's constantly out of nowhere reminds everyone that it's not an easy class, she's not an easy professor, etc. At the same time, she's not teaching anything herself. Every class is based on groups giving 25 minutes presentations. People mumble and it's hard to learn. I had to learn by myself and survive
Dr. Fredericks does not teach. The class is all based on group PP presentations and a 5-10 minute talk by her. I had to self-teach me everything to pass the class. Every week you have to turn in a Quiz, a Homework and a Discussion (some days ever two of any item). STAY AWAY!
The best professor that I've ever had, she was very open and was easily accessible to talk to about any issues
She taught from PowerPoint presentations in which the class has enough time to take notes. She is very nice, although if you talk in her class she gets mad. (which is normal) I would gladly take another class from her!
Professor Fredericks is an amazing professor. This is my third time taking her, but this time was Research Methods 2. RM2 in general is hard and I don't think the professor matters because it is all the same information. Take Professor Fredericks. She's great.
I always try to give professors benefit of the doubt, but she's terrible. She gives a rubric and you can follow it to a T and she'll take off points based on things she asked you to do in the rubric. She is rude and you can't even ask her a question without her being condescending and unhelpful. An A is not impossible, but she's a petty grader.
RM2 has never been an easy course, but Prof. Fredericks makes it no easier. She is an extremely harsh grader who gives very vague feedback so students have no direction in how to improve the huge paper you have to complete for the semester. Frankly, many students this semester feel as if we were not set up to succeed. Its extremely frustrating.
The RM2 class is known to be the ultimate challenge, but if you take it seriously it's not hard to get an A. It's a lot of work! (weekly assignments, discussions, quizzes & 5 papers (which are really just 5 parts of one final paper). But the professor is very nice, responsive, and provides a lot of help. If you don't procrastinate you'll do great!
Had to drop the class with how difficult this teacher is. It is not an easy class from the beginning, but she does not make it any easier. I had mental break down's almost every week due to this class.
Doesn't really care about plagiarism, so as long as you don't go over the 50-65% mark TurnItIn gives, you can pretty much do whatever you want with the papers. Seems to dump most of the actual work on the TA, so YMMV on the assignments and discussions. Asking the TA to review the paper the week before gets you more feedback than the actual grading.
Dr. Fredericks is an amazing professor. You need to be on top of your work in order to pass; there are 5 papers (one big paper submitted in 5 parts), discussions, 7 exams, and some assignments. She is a fair grader and always leaves feedback that makes sense so that you can improve. She is easy to contact and helpful, + A LOT of extra credit!
Dr. Fredericks is very kind and understanding. This class is not easy by any means, but Research Methods II is MEANT to be difficult. A lot of work to do, therefore do not recommend taking more than one extra class (If working full time). Despite finding myself struggling at first, she gave me extra time to finish work that I did not understand.
I got stuck with her because no one else was available since this course tends to fill up really fast. I currently have an A, but shes a really tough grader and isnt reasonable at all. I dont know how she has a 3.8. She really is horrible.
If you're looking for something that you can get by easily, just turn the other way. The class itself is not difficult but extremely tedious to the point where it's simply going to stress you out if you're taking any other time-consuming courses (ex: organic chemistry, biochem, cell bio, etc.). If your class schedule is not heavy, then go ahead.
There are Weekly Discussions, an Oral Presentation, a Final Research Paper, and a Professional Development task. It seems a lot but it is what it's supposed to be for the Senior Seminar in Psychology. The class is great. It teaches you how to be ready for further education or an immediate job plus a positive psychology theme which is great for life
WORST PROFERSSOR EVER! I'm an A student and I got a C with her. Achieve her expectations in papers is impossible. Her feedback doesn't help at all and doesn't teach anything. If you are having difficulties in the class, she encourage you to drop the class instead of helping you. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!
Dr. Fredericks & her TAs are really tough graders. The feedback they provide almost leaves you in a state of confusion. My peers tried reaching out for extra feedback/more clarification on certain things & her response was always to refer back to the instructions or reread the chapter & I felt that was unfair especially in a class that was hard.
Her class wasn't super easy but it wasn't hard either. As long as you do the work and take good notes, you'll pass the tests and quizzes. She also dropped the grade of our lowest exam which boosted my grade tons.
Prof. Fredericks is great! She is very responsive. Her course in Positive Psych was super interesting. Some students say she is a tough grader but I see it as university-level training in assignments accuracy and structural discipline which can really help us in the future. I'd definitely take her class again.
Professor Fredericks was a very kind individual, she gives good feedback and messages back almost immediately! Super nice and understanding.
There were no test or quizzes, just discussion every week, final oral presentation and a final research paper that was only 2 pages. The class is very easy, but she Is a tough grader, she will take off points for not following her exact instructions. but over all its pretty easy A.
Other than feedback that was lackluster, there were not many issues. Follow directions thoroughly, and ask questions about assignments beforehand. Manage your time wisely as this class requires a bit of reading.
Thee absolute WORST professor I've ever had. She grades extremely tough and the feedback is practically nonexistent. Every paper has dozens and dozens of instructions, but aren't clear at all. Her powerpoints are 100+ slides and not helpful at all. I literally copied the structure for her example papers and she marked it wrong! DON'T TAKE HER! RUN!
I expected heavy workload but SHE was HORRIBLE. Shared zooms from another professor to explain papers, then what was demonstrated was not what she was looking for?! Example papers wrong too! Will not give full directions in order for you to earn an A, you have to guess- which she actually acknowledged. Final paper grade average was 50/75. RUN.
My quizzes/exams actually bolstered my grade because she can't take away points when its multiple choice. Gave almost zero help to assist with the papers- what she did provide, and I implemented word for word, was somehow wrong. She was rude when emailing for assistance too. Straight A student until her. The class is tedious but she made it awful.
She is really good at her job! She dose everything she can to help you want to succeed, her work might be a bit tedious it's interesting, life changing, and inspiring. She answers emails in a decent time frame. Her class materials besides the book really help to learn the concept of the class topic.
Worst Professor! Don't take her! she doesn't even grade her students papers, and SHE IS RUDE!
She is not a bad professor but she is not clear on what she wants. Her instructions are vague and not very specific considering how specific she is. Tough grader. Takes a lot of points for little things. Message her for clarification. Her class was challenging, which was good for me! If her instructions were clearer, the course would be smoother.
If you want a chill semester, do not take this professor. The amount of work this teacher gives for a course that isn't even important is shocking.
I liked this professor. Yes, she is a tough grader, but if you follow her directions, you will get a good grade. She gives excellent feedback.
Avoid taking this professor if possible because she is the toughest grader I've ever had. It's usually over small things that she will take points off. I didn't like how much work she assigned us for meager points and there's no extra credit either. I feel like I went above & beyond for this class and it wasn't without frustration & tears.
If you can take any other person, please do. This professor has a paper that is five parts, with specific details on how she wants it. There are discussions almost every other week, with at least two assignments per week. She isn't so caring; if you miss an assignment and have an excuse for it, she won't take it. Prepare yourself!!
A lot of papers to write and she's not always 100% on the feedback and explanations when you ask her to explain. The tests are fairly easy if you study the assignments but you would have to put this class as your main priority if you want to pass with a decent grade.
She is very particular about APA, but that is not a bad thing because it helped me improve my APA formatting and writing. The assignments were very interesting. I really enjoyed her course!
Honestly, I have read bad reviews and I have thought the other way around. She was a great professor and gave you opportunities to re submit assignments and explain what you did incorrectly. I would take her again 10/10
Professor Fredericks was amazing and so personable. I don't usually write reviews unless the professor is bad, but she was great. She made learning psychology so manageable. She made class fun and made learning simpler. You guys have got to take her. I took intro to psychology.
Every assignment and discussion was very helpful and enjoyable. She gives good feedback and is easy to reach. The only thing, is you need to be prepared to DO THE WORK. There is a discussion every week that requires time to read, watch, and write. She is a tough grader as long as you follow the instructions, which are always very clear.
WORST PROFESSOR AT FIU! The positive reviews must be written by her herself. She accused me of cheating on a paper (of course it was later proved that it was her mistake). She also took 10 points off a paper I submitted at 11:59 (mere milliseconds past the due date). Somehow I still managed an A, but a lot of my class failed. please save yourself.
If you have another option, avoid her; she's not flexible. Be prepared not to have a single personal problem because she will not understand. The class is challenging, but it will be easier with a teacher who wants his students to succeed. Clearly, this is not the case. She is very strict with the papers, and do all the extra credit you will need.
I would say pick another professor if you can, because she is a very tough grader, and she is rude when you ask her something in the emails.
VERY BAD EXPERIENCE. This professor do not want you to have success in the class, she will make your life harder with the papers, since her feedback is ALWAYS negative, doesnt matter how good you do it. She is very rude with her responses, and the directions of the papers are very bad explained.
She's an impossibly hard grader, no one in the class got 100% on ANY of the five required papers. Her feedback is self contradictory, unclear and vague. There is so a lot of exams, discussions and assignments on top of all the papers.
Dear God. This may actually have been the worst professor I've encountered at FIU. Lacks empathy for students, responds to emails with incredible hostility, and late grader. Like, extremely late. If you can find a different professor, please do. If you cannot, I wish you good luck. A lot of it.
Genuinely difficult and while the feedback can be helpful, it is very much unnecessary most of the time. Her instructions are extremely disorganized and no matter how hard you may try, it will not be sufficient. Her grading also heavily contradicts her own instructions. Please avoid if possible.
When I say tough grader, I mean it. Not only is she a tough grader, she's an inconsistent grader. She'll take points off for things that the instructions say are okay. She'll wont take points off for something for one paper, but will for the next. Asking questions leads to no where except further confusion. Take someone else if you can.
You are required to write 5 total papers worth a lot. She doesn't assist you when needed and gives you a hard time and make you feel less than when trying to reach out. She is also a hard grader, and majority of the mean scores on the papers were around 40%.I highly encourage working with classmates/TA's/ and tutors in order to pass this class.
The tough grading made it difficult to pass her papers. There are five papers, and she gives lengthy instructions that are disorganized. If you do follow instructions, you will still get points marked off. She did provide extra credit, which helps, but I highly recommend talking to classmates to pass this class.
Never gives decent feedback if she even gives any feedback at all. Answers questions by telling you to reread instructions and refuses to elaborate further or clarify anything.
Irina is a thorough but demanding professor. The workload is hefty, but engaging with her clear instructions leads to good grades. Unstuck AI and ChatGPT were helpful for study prep.
The class is extremely hard, 4 credit class. This teacher gives so much extra credit and her instructions may seem long, but she literally explains every single thing for us to do in easy terms. She emails me back super quick. she really wants you to pass. She's not that tough of a grader. If you actually care you will pass this class.
This course has a heavy workload, which already makes the class somewhat taxing, and the Professor does not make any attempt to make it easier for the students. There are five papers due throughout the course and they all build upon each other but without proper feedback and guidance from the professor, you can't improve for the next paper.
If you want to pass this class or graduate from FIU do not take this class with this professor. Very tough grader and even if you follow the rubric and use APA format, she will not give you credit. If you get small things wrong in the paper like spacing, she will most likely take many points off or give you a zero. DONT CHOOSE THIS "professor".
