Her Russian accent makes it impossible to understand.
GET OUT IF YOU CAN! That's all that needs to be said.
I hated this class, Never show up anymore because of difficulty understanding her. Just go to recitation with T.A. Don't take class if you hate math, it sucks, put it off!!
you have to really listen to understand her through her thick russian accent. but makes jokes which can be funny. dont need to go to lectures but makes it easier if you do. have to go to recitation
completely sucks. takes off points when nothing is wrong. i.e: you can have all the problems correct and get a 95%. tests are much more difficult than other profs.
Impossible to understand.Horrible translations. Just go to class with the T.A. twice a week and get a good study group.
I can't understand a word she's saying...I already have a hard enough time with Math, let alone accompanied by a heavy Russian accent. :(
Well i'll have to quote a girl from my class to list this comment "i didnt know you needed a prerequisit in Russian to take this math class" cant understand a single word she says
she can't speak english!!!
Can't speak English, like...seriously !
Once you get past the accent, she is an incredible teacher. She has really helped me to enjoy math. I have never had a 4.0 in math class before. She goes out of her way to do review sessions and provide extra help. I am so glad that I'm in her class!
I really liked Professor Kadyrova. Her accent wasn't that bad, you could understand her very well once you got used to it. She had lots of review sessions - if you went to those and paid attention in lecture, her class wasn't bad at all.
She has such a passion for her students! She really wants you to get a 4
Pray to God that you have a good TA for recitations because you won't understand/ learn what she says in lecture. Friday's are pointless (don't bother waking up at 9am). If you ask questions, she rarely understands what you mean by it and will ask you to talk to her after class. Teach yourself, it's not that difficult.
She does not explain how to solve problems conceptually, but rather just does examples. You can get by doing this in earlier maths, but not Cal3. Do not take Calc with her unless you have to.
She didn't make any sense... at all... ever
oh, honestly, her english is entirely clear most of the time, her review sessions are infinitely helpful, and, well...i'll admit that lectures are pointless but she's very good one-on-one. Besides, who wouldn't want the head of the russian mob as their prof? yeah. she kicks ass.
Complaining about the accent is not an excuse, although her methods of explanation aren't too clear, regardless. She's very abrasive when asked a question, stating that she cannot help with arithmetic problems. If you're any kind of English major/minor, know that she will butcher the language on every test/quiz/e-mail. Which lends itself to issues.
Don't get her as a math teacher!!
Kadyrova possibly the great proffesor ive ever had. She make learn fun. I love learn math now.
I am not a math person. Prof. Kadyrova did not make it any easier for me. Had I not taken math all four years of high school I probably would have failed this class. However, I skipped a number of classes. I imagine if you attend all the lectures, even if you don't like math, you should be able to scrape by with at least a 3.0.
She was pretty much useless. It was a challenge just to stay awake in class. I felt I had to teach myself the whole class
This woman was impossible to understand and half the time, corrected her own problems because she forgot how to do them. I'm sure that if I had a good TA, I would've been fine. Not worth the gamble though. Only class I didn't get at least a 3, even after going to all reviews. STAY AWAAAAAAAY!!!!!
cant understand and teaches you something new with 5 min left in class. sometimes quizes have material we havent covered yet
not my favorite teacher.. she doesnt go in any sort of order and only teaches certain parts of each section so knowing what hw to do is very difficult. she is very hard to understand , and i do most of my learning from my TA. She does a lot of reviews, but if she cant teach me in class then i dont think the reviews would help
WORST.PROF.EVER. I don't like math but I tried really hard and still did bad. I was constantly at the MLC because going to class was useless. The class was just terribly organized to begin with. AVOID.AVOID.AVOID
She's not bad at all. The class is extremely easy, especially if you know math. Just do the homework and you'll be fine.
cant understand at all switch out into another teacher youll thank me later
The biggest and most obvious obstacle with her is the think accent. But beyond that she can really be pretty helpful.
What are you guys talking about? Kadyrova is awesome. She has such passion for her students, she wants you to succeed, always willing to help, no matter what. Nicest professor I've ever met!
A professor who is very passionate about teaching and a sincere human being. But to be honest, the thick accent, disorganization, and difficulty of exams made me regret not switching out of this class. I stopped going to class and instead went to the MLC to learn, just like most of the people in the class.
Worst class I have taken so far at MSU. Her accent is so heavy I couldn't understand a word she said. When I went to talk to her after class she acted as if she knew everything and talked down to me. You can tell she cares about her students but has a poor way of showing it.
Accent is heavy but if you listen carefully and concentrate you can understand her. Sit in the front row, she uses a projection screen and can't see it in the back. Extremely nice and cares a lot.
awful experience with what I thought was my favorite subject. It became so frustrating to attend class that I began to not go. It didn't matter when I showed up to class ready to learn the lady couldn't even do the problems herself. Plus even if she did understand the material she can't talk. Avoid at all costs. waste of time and money
Ouch.
Not a very good professor. She cares about he material, but her accent is so thick and she is so unorganized going to lecture became useless. Try to avoid her.
Honestly, I think the crap she gets isn't justified at all. Yes, she has an accent! Hey, welcome to the real world kids! Sit in the front row, focus, do the homework, and you'll be fine. Yes, sometimes her English and teaching methods can be a little confusing, and that's what recitation and the Math Learning Center is for.
She would encourage the class to ask questions, but then proceed to be condescending when answering. Homework, worksheets and lectures, did not run in tandem. In fact the text book was mostly useless. The accent shouldn't be an issue for anyone that actually pays attention. She also provides her own review sessions.
I can understand her accent. She just can't teach. My friend asked a question and she responded "look in book." She says she is interested in you, but really isn't. She makes math harder than it should be. Her "review" sessions consist of you asking questions, not her teaching. Doesn't do examples in class, and when she does, they are irrelevant
Very good at math. Hard Grader
Difficult to understand at times, which caused me drift off during the lectures
Professor Kadyrova is a great professor. Yes, she has an accent, and you have to comprehend what she is saying, but she actually cares about her students. If you want to get the grade you want in her class actually do the homework and attend her reviews for exams. Her reviews are just like her exams, so put in some study hours and you'll do well...
Understands math. Does not understand how to teach or present material in a clear way. Teaches straight from notes and presents material with formulas rather than examples, does not show steps in work but merely does it in a massive jumble that is nearly incomprehensible. I have always been proficient in math but I am completely lost.
With out a doubt the worst teacher I have ever encountered, pretty much a self taught class.
She is well versed in mathematics and offers a lot of extra help.
The only reason I passed is because I took this class sophomore year in high school. So easy. Hard to understand in class, no extra help. Textbook was absolutely useless. I had to keep in contact with my high school teachers if i wanted any help at all. get used to the MLC if you have her.
A terrible professor. Her lectures are useless and she is extremely difficult to understand. Stay away unless you want to teach yourself the material from the book.
Very nice and knows the material but you can not understand her at all so it is pretty much all self taught. Very strong accent and jumps around on notes.
She is very knowledgeable about math, and is very nice. However, she hard to understand while trying to teach and it is hard to comprehend what she is talking about sometimes. She always makes herself available to help tough. Most people stopped coming to class by the end of the semester and just went to the MLC.
Irina and her class are an utter atrocity of what a math class should be. Her methods are ignorant and flawed, overall a terrible class. Lectures do not coincide with any work that is done
her accent is hard to understand at times but she is a GREAT professor. If you attend lectures regularly and do your homework you should have no complaints, she is very helpful if you need help and cares about the course content. Give the class a chance and you will see that it is only as difficult as you allow it to be.
She was very confusing in lectures. I relied entirely on the MLC and my recitation TA.
cannot understand her and the review answer sheets she gives out are all incorrect
Her accent is extremely difficult to understand. In addition, she takes relatively simple concepts and makes them very complicated. I basically had to teach myself all the material or I would have failed.
Her accent is very thick and difficult to understand. She presents easy concepts in a very difficult way and her lectures are hard to follow.
She is very confusing and unclear. When you try to ask her questions she never gives a clear response and IS NOT approachable. I e-mailed her 4 times in a 2 week period and never received a response. I then went to her office hours and she didn't have a student in there and told me to come back at a later date. She should not be a professor.
This professor really knew what she was talking about in the class but was basically useless when it came to getting that knowledge out to the students. She was completely unclear and snapped at some students who asked questions in class or corrected her. I do not recommend this class.
Kadyrova knows what she is talking about, however, she is very condescending to her students and does not take time to make sure that the students understand the material. If you don't mind a thick accent and you are exceptional at math, you should be fine.
This class is not easy to say the least. However, the professor is very helpful if you go to her office hours. Trust me, it is worth spending some time in her office going over notes and exams. I got a 4.0 in this class and so will you. Don't hesitate to ask her questions. Also do the recommended homework and go to review sessions before exams.
the thick russian accent isnt that bad, she obviously retains a lot of russian culture. but she is not really that good at math, she wrote my textbook and its basically worthless because of her adition i think, anyways i think she was not good at teaching but the material isnt difficult really
I don't know how anyone could say she was helpful. English class is one she must have skipped back in her day. If you speak thick Russian accent, she still won't teach you. She was so many lessons behind on our final exam there was a whole chapter our class was tested on but never was taught. Worst Professor I have experienced.
She is terrible! Although she has a passion for math, you cannot understand her. The lectures are pointless and you need to learn everything on your own. If your taking Calc 2, pick someone that is clear in communication because this is one of the hardest math courses I have taken!!
Her accent is very strong indeed so its hard to follow,so most of the time you have to learn stuff on your own, but she's super nice and is always willing to help. She send notes, and her exams review are very close to the actual exam.
Her accent isn't very easy to understand and I barely ever went to lecture
Honestly one of my favorite teachers. Ignore the hate. She tells you what you need to know. The only reason to get less than a 4.0 is not trying... At all.
She's very hard to understand because of her thick accent. I ended up skipping most of her lectures and either teaching myself or counting on my TA.
Kadyrova is hard to understand in lectures and she tend to get off track. Just hope you have a decent LA. She tries to help you if you ask for help one on one but her accent is somewhat hard to understand. I do enjoy her humor though.
Hard to understand her. I stopped going to lecture and relied solely on my TA to learn the material. I tried asking her a question once and she lectured me for 15 min about something I didn't ask.
Her accent is very thick. If I hadn't taken almost this exact same math class in high school I wouldn't have done well. Ask your TA questions. The lectures aren't super helpful, but there are some good things to get from it. The textbook is only necessary for in class assignments. Never opened it otherwise.
She posts the practice exams online then she posts the STEPS OF HOW TO DO THE SOLUTIONS. The practice exams are usually harder than the real exams so it will prepare you. Extra credit exam that will give you 15 points on final. You get 10 attempts. Not hard if you're decent at math. Accent is thick but get over it. Get a good TA & you'll be fine.
Her accent made her incredibly hard to understand. She also wasn't helpful at all. I set up a meeting with her to go over my notes, and she continually canceled or blew me off until I stopped trying. Very difficult and frustrating.
I didn't even bother going to classes. As long as you go to recitation you will be fine. I recommend definitely going to help rooms though because they are awesome and saved my butt. You definitely need the book but you can't resell it which sucks.
Absolutely useless teacher everything is learned in recitation, Examples have almost no relevance to actual test. Lecture is honestly pointless to go to you will learn nothing with her thick accent, bad jokes, and poor teaching method when you can understand her.
She is very nice and encourages you to come to her for help but you can't understand her and it takes her 50 minutes to explain 2 problems because she goes off on tangents about pointless math. Just go to the mlc.. It's a lifesaver
I go to class just to show up because i paid for it. My T.A. teaches everything that I need to know.
Pointless to go to the lecture, the teaching is just about useless. I took pre-calc as a junior in high school and passed easily, but for some reason I was placed back into this class this year and I'm struggling to pass. The recitation is the only time you will actually learn, and use of the MLC is crucial to understanding even simple topics.
I had recently taken precalc in high school, therefore, this subject comes easy to me. Although Kadyrova has a Russian accent, she is funny and knows what she's talking about. Once you get pass the accent, you begin to understand what she's saying and she often clears things up. Only downfall is some of her reviews have incorrect answers.
Kadyrova's class was very pointless. You cannot understand her so it is not helpful to go to the lectures, you learn everything with your TA in recitation. MY TA was very helpful and he retaught everything in a way that made more sense.
I only go to lecture because I paid for it.I never got past the accent so her lectures are pretty confusing. If anyone asks a question she gets so frazzled and confused. Going to lecture isn't necessary but go to recitation. I was stuck with a bad TA so the MLC saved my life.
I really haven't learned anything from Kadyrova. I'm essentially going off of what I learned in high school
She saved my grade. She's rough around the edges, but she's Russian for goodness sake, give her a break. She's always available to help and is amazingly knowledgeable.
The class is easy to pass, but Kandryova makes it harder with her lectures. The lectures do next to nothing for her students and you will realize that about 2/3'ds of the class skips because other students realize this too. She is quite literally the worst teacher I have ever had as a student. Period. I passed only from my own work.
She's Russian so don't plan on being able to listen and know what she's saying at all. My advice for this class is to make sure you have a good TA that explains or simply, that you can understand. She was the worst professor I've had but you have to get through the class because she's the only one for 116, so good luck.
She's has a strong Russian accent and is a bad professor
The accent is heavy and takes some getting used to. Other than that she is a phenomenal professor. Highly knowledgeable and she cares deeply for her students and their success. Utilize her office hours!
Literally the worst professor I've ever had. She knows what she is doing but does not know how to teach. If you have this class i would definitely recommend dropping it while you can because it will kill your GPA. I got a 100 in pre calc in high school, and all the work we did was the same. The organization of the class sucks is all based off exams
I think a lot of people are hard on her because her accent is thick, but the more you go to class the more used to it you get. She is always providing extra credit opportunities after exams and she holds study sessions almost every week. The material is not too hard and she explains it pretty well.
-Accent really bad, not her fault but still -No point in lecture, besides knowing the pace of the class -Often uploaded wrong notes and made mistakes in class -Took this class in high school and still struggled, requires a lot of time and work put in -A good TA or MLC is key to understanding topics -Offers up to 40 points in EC, which saved me
I would not take a class with her again. Her accent is very difficult to understand, and on top of that, her grammar is not great. The textbook is "required," but it is only used to rip out the Problem Sets in the back. The rest of the book is only used for recommended problems. I would just buy the online access code if possible.
Kadyrova is an awful teacher. She has a very thick accent that makes it impossible to understand what she is saying during lecture. She commonly makes calculation errors and mistakes while trying to solve problems. If a student asks a question, she assumes the question before the student even finishes asking. Go to the MLC for help instead.
The mathematics isn't bad, its just the professor. Her Russian is very thick and hard to understand and she doesn't always finishes a problem or explain how to do it very well. I stopped going to the lectures and got myself a personal tutor instead.
Her accent was hard to understand. You need to work hard to get a good grade.
Good luck trying to figure out your grade, you won't have the class registered on D2L so you won't really know by the end of the semester. Lectures are borderline optional, but you will actually learn in recitation so I strongly recommend you go to those.
She's the only professor for MTH116, so you're kind of stuck with her (or at least I was). Her lectures can be confusing. Sometimes, I left class more confused than when I went in. Lecture attendance is optional. Exams are similar to the review. I learned everything from my recitation TA, so honestly if you go to recitation, you'll definitely pass.
Shes really hard to understand during lectures, makes frequent mistakes, & be prepared to be spammed with emails. The textbook is only required for the worksheets in it. The MLC and recitation will help you learn the material. Offers a good amount of extra credit. Do the reviews, they are essentially what the exam will be.
If you follow the notes and go to recitation (which was mandatory) then you can easily get a 4.0. The final exam was easy and I studied all weekend for it and it was so super easy.
This class was made needlessly difficult because of poor teaching. Dr. Kadyrova's explanations of material did not make sense, and most students depended exclusively on recitation to learn anything. Attendance drops astronomically throughout the year because the lectures are so unhelpful. The night class has another teacher, take that if you can.
Her lectures are basicsally useless, she commonly makes mistakes. Most students after the first week have been using the MLC instead of attending her lectures.
Awful. You have to learn everything on your own or find a tutor. Her lectures are hard to understand and she doesn't explain things well at all. Recitation might help if you have a good TA. Not being rude but the teacher is foreign so I would try to get an american TA that you can understand. I would avoid this class at all costs if possible.
Worst teacher ever possible. Does not talk nearly loud enough to hear in lecture and has an extremely strong accent, making it very difficult to understand her.
She is not a good teacher to begin with, she doesn't explain anything and then she has the thickest accent which doesn't help.
During lectures she doesn't explain the process of working out problems, she doesn't spend enough time on challenging concepts, and her expectations of what to know for tests are unclear. The content itself is not terrible, it is just the teaching style that could improve. Avoid this professor at all costs or prepare to teach yourself with youtube.
Irina is hands down the worst math professor. My recitation TA even believes she should be fired, but the problem is she has tenure. Parts of this class are easy and some parts are difficult. The class should be an easy 4.0 if you do the extra credit and do decent on tests, but I would avoid this professor at all costs.
Not a great professor. She gets mad if you ask questions and always makes mistakes when doing math.
Kadyrova was hard to understand in lecture and often times her lectures would be confusing and hard to follow. She often regraded tests because she was unhappy with the TA's grading and she would change grades on some tests and not others even though the answers were exactly the same on both of them.
Lectures seem long and boring. The material she taught was not that difficult, but the way she taught it was not useful and often made an easy concept seem confusing.
Worst professor I have had and the tests are hard and makes everything way more difficult than it needs to be.
Makes mistakes on problems during lecture and online notes even her tests have mistakes.
She is the worst teacher ever. Nothing else needs to be said. There is literally no reason to go to lecture. If you do go you will want to tear your hair out. Good luck.
Terrible teacher
Absolutely terrible. Made easy concepts way more difficult than they had to be, did every problem in an extremely complicated way that was in no way necessary. Stopped going to class because there was absolutely no point in going. She gets mad when you have questions and makes no effort to be understood with her incredibly thick accent.
Awful language barrier. Tried taking this class twice and had to drop out because of her lack to communicate both times. I thought online would be easier so I could read what she was saying instead of having to listen and even that was rough. Horrible at doing problems, does not actually teach, and when she does she just does the problem w/out expl
You need 100% attentiveness to understand her accent. The language barrier is incredibly difficult to overcome. Luckily I already took pre-calc, so retaking this class was a breeze.
This professor was maybe the most boring teacher I have had. Her voice was very dull which made the lectures very difficult to get through. I would see a lot of students not show up and if they did they would usually leave half way through. I feel like the amount of homework was decent, but the homework was definitely more difficult than the tests.
I get that its not easy teaching in a second language, but its not hard to teach efficiently in general. Shes not approachable, shes not friendly, shes rude to her students, and makes learning precalc 3x more complex than needed.
Be prepared to do double the amount of work you expect out of this class. My biggest mistake was putting my trust in her for too long, and because of that I had to put hours into getting a decent grade. Her lectures and homework assignments are meaningless. Just read the study guides she sends out and you're set if you understand the concepts.
Overall, I thought she was a good teacher. She gives you notes to print, which is really helpful and the recitation is also really helpful (if you have a good TA). She can be a bit intimidating and her accent can be hard to understand, but she really does want to help you learn the material and succeed.
If you've worked hard in previous math classes, congratulations because this class is 90% review. Kadyrova is useless, so I recommend asking your TA questions or forming a little group to work with. The graded homework will boost your grade, so try to rake in those hundos. Definitely do the test reviews and go to the review she has. You'll be fine.
She's a challenging professor. I wish you luck.
It's a hard class but if you can focus for an hour every day then you'll be fine. You can't fall behind and you need to focus in class or you wont learn. Book is useful and online homework helps too
Very hard to understand. Tests are hard. Shes tough, would not recommend this class.
While she is a nice person, she is not a good professor. She was very hard to understand and he lectures often made no sense. Rather than going off of the pre planned in class notes she would go on random incoherent tangents. It was so bad that in my 130 person lecture by the third week in the semester only 6-10 people were attending lecture.
The professor does not lecture about math nor does she explain it. It's about her life. Very thick accent that's difficult to understand; took me 5 weeks to understand her accent. Don't bother showing up, just read the textbook. You'll learn more by reading the book than you will by attending the lectures. I would suggest taking a different prof.
Her accent does not impact her teaching. She's one of the best professors I have ever had. These comments that I am reading are likely from the kids who showed up, sat on their phones the entire time, and failed the tests. I showed up, listened, went to her office hours, and got an A. Anytime I had a question, she went the extra mile.
Plenty of homework, as well as weekly worksheets done during recitations that require extra study time. You'll be sinking more time than you expect into this class since you'll have to work around a useless professor and her incomprehensible lectures. Expect broken English in your textbook, worksheets, and any sort of review material.
Rambling in class, difficult to understand, rude and even disrespectful in one on one meetings. Has hard tests as well. I was looking forward to the class, as it is important to my future. I wish that she could have stayed on task a bit more while teaching. Advice for future students: Find friends to study with and make good use of recitations!
I went to lecture for the first week of class and then stopped. You don't need to put yourself through the hassle of hearing this professor explain concepts not in the notes or babble on and on about beautiful Russian girls. Instead of going to lecture, focus on the worksheets and quizzes due in recitation and go to the MLC and you'll be fine.
One of the hardest classes I've ever taken. I went to every lecture and nothing ever made sense until I went to the MLC which is the only reason I did well in the class.
Kadyrova was just fine. Probably on the lower end of fine but not the worst. I was always confused and she wasn't always helpful. If you want to pass, lean on the TA and basically live at the math center.
Don't bother to go to lecture, just spend that hour and a half studying online, by yourself, and you will 3.5 the class. Plus you won't be lost in translation. Use your calculator on exams, as it can do almost everything if you know what your doing. If you want to 4.0 to the class, you have to go the study center.
This class was ridiculosuly hard. It's very hard to understand her accent. If you have questions, you might as well not answer them because she won't answer them. Quizzes every week based off of the lectures. But, lot's of times she won't give out the lecture note answers so you really need to know what you're doing in order to pass. Don't take.
This is the worst professor I've had the pleasure of having. Steer clear of her if you can. I'm sure this would have a been a slightly different story had we actually gone on campus this year, but I digress. This prof is disrespectful, refuses to acknowledge when she or her programs are wrong, and she somehow deleted our quiz. Can't learn anything.
DON'T TAKE HER IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO! Her lectures are boring and all she does is read off the notes. She also goes off topic a lot causing us to not get through the information we need. The recitations are fine to get help, but they aren't allowed to show you the answer to a problem which isn't helpful. Take anything but this class, it's horrible.
So I took this class in the midst of the corona semester where it was all online in the fall. She made multiple mistakes on the quizzes, but theyre based on worksheets we use during recitation. Irina is no help whatsoever, shes stubborn and the language barrier makes it worse. Content isnt difficult, but rely on YouTube, the MLC and your book.
Lots of homework, weekly quizzes. I stopped showing up to any classes a few weeks into the semester and still got 100%'s on quizzes and midterms. Everything is online due to covid so that may be why.
Weekly quizzes, graded homework(which help with exams and materials), go to recitations, they help with quizzes and material for the unit. Read the lecture slides and highlight/star equations for units. I've done precalc before so it was easy for me but maybe work with others to understand material more. Given ample amount of time to do assignments
I think she gets too much flak for her accent. If you can't understand her, just take notes posted on D2L and you'll be fine. Going to class is not necessary to pass or get a good grade, but RECITATIONS ARE REQUIRED. If you don't know what that is, just wait until you take her class. The TAs are very helpful. Prof Irina also allows some extensions.
Class content isn't too difficult, TA's are what make it more difficult. We were often given wrong answers on the worksheets that were used as study material for the quiz. Professor Kadyrova is an understanding and nice woman, lectures aren't required, recitations are, you'll get an A as long as you make sure you know whats going on.
A lot of people don't like her, but honestly, I just showed up, paid attention, and did the work. I would answer questions she asked in class and didn't go on my phone (that's a big thing for her). She was super nice to me and understood if I needed more time to work things out homework-wise (I was having some computer problems at the beginning).
I loved this professor. I will say the content in this class is difficult, but if you put in the effort and pay attention youll do fine. Theres ULAs to help if you need it and theres a lot of support too. The professor does have an accent, but after a while you get used to it and can easily understand her. Overall, she was great!
This class is difficult even if you have taken similar classes before. It will take a lot of time. You will be tested on things that were not in the homework. The material is not explained, and often her math is wrong. I had a waiver for the first half of the class, and I left the lectures confused on things that I knew prior. However she is nice.
Honestly the worst professor I've ever had. I struggled in this class which is not typical for me in math, and she was not helpful at all with questions or mistakes. If you end up in this class, I highly recommend you switch out. It's not worth the time nor money.
Professor wasn't good at all during the past semester. A strong accent combined with poor audio quality due to the online format made lectures almost impossible to understand. She also was awful at answering questions, frequently missing the point or not going into enough detail. Class itself isn't too hard, but you'll need to learn it by yourself.
Lecture attendance was not required so I almost never went because I had taken plenty of algebra classes in the past. I dont need to be leaning about slope intercept form as a freshman in college. Did not communicate well with students. Class was an easy 4.0.
Spoke quickly in lectures and rarely went over things multiple times. Often was mean to those who asked her questions in class. I was in her online course so it definitely could have made an impact on my experience, but I did not enjoy this class.
Do not do what I did and think that you can get past an accent. Her accent is very thick and she is very hard to understand. She is also not caring at all. The class material itself isn't too bad, but I think any other professor would have made it a lot easier. Avoid if you can!
She's a bit too silly (derogatory) for my liking
Can't understand a work she's saying, and the TAs didn't give answers during recitations so you couldn't even see if you did things right until the next day or so when they were posted
Honestly don't bother with the lectures. It's hard to understand anything and it is not necessary to pass. Take advantage of recitations and if you do need extra help just go to the math help room or talk to TA. She seems nice though and the class is not very hard overall, just lots of work.
She is hard to understand at times but I've had many foreign math teachers so I was used to it. Follow along with what she's doing in the lecture and do practice problems and the class is fairly easy.
This class was honestly a joke, and dont bother buying a textbook. The class itself is completley self taught, going to lectures is pointless. The material itself was not tough, quizzes are on d2l and exams are on some other website with no lockdown browser. Dont panic if you have her, just be ready to teach yourself the whole class.
She moves fast and it can be hard to understand her. She also gets mad when you ask a question.
Absolute worst classroom experience I have ever had seriously makes me wonder how she got a job here had her as both a professor and TA and I will jump off a bridge if I have her again barely speaks English, ignores most questions if she does see your question will get mad at you for asking highly doubt she understands the material she teaches
Professor Kadyrova is caring and understanding, she wants to see you do well. The class isn't easy super easy though, you have to put some work into it. Personally I could've gotten by without buying the textbook, there's enough information in lectures/recitation/online. Basically if you put the work in, ask for help when needed, you should be ok.
The lectures were online with in-person recitation, and recitation was far more helpful than the lectures. She's hard to understand due to her intense use of technical math vocabulary. The lectures are slow, yet the material goes by very quickly. She's also very blunt. Overall, a pretty difficult class, with homework and quizzes every week.
SHE CONNOT BE UNDERSTOOD! She is one of the worst professors I have ever had in my life! She is rude when people ask questions and mumbles through the whole lecture. Lectures are unhelpful and many times a waste. The recitations and MLC are your best bets for learning anything.
Couldnt understand her in a single lecture and contemplated skipping classes because I wasnt getting anything out of the lecture anyway. Had to rely on working on homework with friends because I gained no knowledge through the lecture.
Barely understand her when she speaks because of her thick accent, isn't interactive and her homework is nearly impossible. Graded homework, quizzes, and exams, no partial credit if half of the problems are correct or for your work. If you even put a space accidentally, it will count it wrong and you can't do it again. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASSES!
This class is pretty much completely self-taught. There are weekly quizzes and a weekly homework assignment both of which are graded off of correctness which makes this class difficult when you don't understand the content. She also is extremely hard to get ahold of and often ignores questions, she does seem sweet however.
Lots of homework. At times the lectures do not make sense. Everything I learned was mostly through Khan Academy. Very boring lectures that could have been improved and made more interesting.
Tries to be understanding, she moves due dates back if students are having issues. I found her lectures teach me nothing, it easier to teach yourself the material through doing the hw on WebAssign. The homework isn't super difficult, and the tests are the same as what you see on the homework. However the quizzes are hard and only a few questions.
Irina is very smart and understands calculus better than the instructor. I have her for my recitation for my asynchronous MTH132, and while her accent may be hard to understand at first , she is very good at explaining and every time I join her recitation I learn something that was not posted in the webinar or pre lecture videos. Overall she tries.
I did not like this class.
If new to the topic of your class do not take this professor. Hard to understand and seems to not like in class questions.
She's pretty hard to understand but you get used to it after a while. Even then, I didn't feel like I got much out of her lectures. If you want to do well I'd recommend the MLC and going to recitation. Although I will say her class structure is super easy compared to other math classes, no final and everything is online.
Worst class i've ever had to endure. Unfortunately (by no fault of her own), I could not understand a single thing said in this lecture. As someone who struggles a little with math, I strongly recommend you don't take this course with her. Most of this class was self-taught, alongside having to go to the math help center bi-weekly.
Didn't go to lectures after the first week because I couldn't understand her. Quizzes and Tests are all on D2L and WebAssign. If you are new to the topic don't take this professor. If you do take this class find a friend that is good at math that can help you.
Should have dropped her class 1-2 week in. Obviously she has an accent and hard to understand, but she is a nice person. TA help a lot, shoutout Cameron. There are weekly quizzes and like 4 lowest ones are dropped. Had 4 exams and no final. Had to pay $100 to do my homework. She reads off of a slideshow and explains things the most complicated way
I four pointed this class, but if you're taking math 116 do not take it with this professor. I took trig in high school and passed it, but her material is still hard. I pretty much did all the work myself and she's very strict in lecture, and her teaching just didn't make sense to me. (Not to her own fault) but she can be difficult to understand.
She is a good professor but it does help to have some baseline understanding of precalculus concepts before taking the class. She is sometimes hard to understand in a lecture hall but I could fill in any gaps with context clues (this as someone with regular auditory processing issues). She will help you with problems if you can show her your work.
Prof. Kadyrova is an old Russian woman with a difficult-to-understand thick accent. Her lectures are online thankfully, but very boring, and not always very helpful. I often find myself having to google concepts. Homework is pretty light and there are weekly quizzes and 4 exams, no final exam thankfully. She isn't that bad, but there's better.
class is easy, but when asking for help she just tells you what you did wrong instead of actually helping.
The class isnt that bad as the workload is pretty light compared to others. However I would rather go thru 3 rounds of medieval torture instead of sitting thru another zoom call. She is a very sweet person, but to this day I cant grasp how someone can speak so slowly and still write fast as hell.
Professor Kadyrova isn't awful, but it is very hard to understand her. She is a very sweet lady, but you definitely need to have some other resources to get a grasp on what you're learning. All the exams and homework assignments are online and on the same platform so if you do your homework, you'll do well on the exams.
Very difficult to understand and she has a hard time explaining things sometimes. She has zero sympat
She has a very thick accent that makes her hard to understand. Often slips up when speaking and takes a while to explain topics. She doesn't explain them thoroughly so I rely on asking the TA my questions. If you ask for help she just explains it again instead of helping you. She uses webassign yet doesn't understand how to retrospectively grade .
Professor Kadyrova is a sweet person, but her heavy accent makes the class a struggle. Utilize resources like unstuck ai, the textbook, and TAs to grasp the content.
If this is your last math class at MSU, you should take MTH116 with Kadyrova. If this isn't your last, there are much better options. She is a very good professor, but online math lecture is not worth it.
She struggled a lot with the technology and was hard to understand sometimes. She didn't grade too hard and the content wasn't too hard to understand. Biggest problems would be her accent and lackluster explanations of some concepts, but the work load was not too much and the quizzes were not too hard.
Irina Kadyrova is a very sweet lady! She is retiring this spring. Despite her passion for teaching, her accent is thick Ukrainian and hard to understand, and the online classes are VERY boring. All HW, quizzes, and exams are online and unproctored, so there is NO reason you shouldn't get an A. TAs pick up most of the heavy lifting in teaching.
