fun class - strong greek accent
very easy class and a very cool teacher. the tests are amazingly easy.
This is basically a history class, so theres quite a bit of memorizing involved when taking test. The good news is most of the answers for the test, can be found on the review printouts on her site, which helps ALOT. Class requires 2 museum trips.
Dr. Rickerson is the best teacher i've had. She is very inspiring. This is a class you will enjoy.
She is passionate! it moves you to study history. she is very much involved and it makes you want to indulge in these arts by visiting the countries that harbor them. A wonderfully kind respectable human being. i love her! awesome! beyond interesting!
Irini is an amazing person and an excellent teacher. She really cares about her students and puts forth a lot of effort to teach her classes in an interesting way. The "mini-movies" she makes are so cool. If you can, take her classes!
Great computer visualizations and displays helped to make this a great art history class. She also genuinely cares about helping everyone to succeed and has a LARGE heart.
Her test are very easy, just study her study guide and you'll get an A easyness
A good class if you only want an easy A, would not be recommended for art history major. Great personality but not very responsible on keeping up with lectures.
even without tough tests, you still learn a lot about art, and u appreciate it. laid back.
She's one of the best teachers ever! Her lectures are fairly interesting and she always tries to help her students. She gives you a study guide before the midterm and final and offers lots of extra credit. ONE OF THE BEST!
EXCELLENT! Wonderful learning experience, not only about Art History, but how we apply it to world events today. Prof has incredible knowledge of her subject, amazing contageous energy, and is a true inspiration. We are so lucky to have her here!
She is an awesome teacher that is very passionate about art and helping others. She makes the lectures pretty interesting and gives a lot of extra credit.
The greatest teacher I ever known. very nice personality. Very easy to get an A in here class. very fun person. she gose out of her way to help others. If all teachers were like her, life would be great.
She came to class everyday unorganized, and lectures were straight out of the book sometimes. When we watched movies, they were the videos from PBS. She is too political, annoying, inept.
Wonderful person and teacher. Always willing to answer any question and usually does. You learn a lot but you do not realize it while you are in the class. There were a few more videos in this class than she wanted, she is very busy.
I'm speechless. You can find all the good things as a teacher in her.
Awsome teacher that is never too busy to help you out. Gets political sometimes but she has nothing but the best intensions. Beautiful person in and out.
Shes awesome, you learn in her class by the stories she tells and she she gives a ton on extra credit, enough to take your grade one letter higher
Well she is a very nice lady, talks about Greece a lot, really sincere love of Art and has been teaching it so long. Forum class, tests were not too hard, interesting stuff. Good class to take.
Instead of being pompous and arrogant like most honors profs @ OCC, she (& Bednarski in Anthro) actually places importance on the needs of the class instead of on her own ego or personal pets which to me is the makings of a great teacher.
Very enthusiatic when it comes to art and being a good person. Can be extremely unorganized at times so that we ended up jamming in everything at the end. But she's such a nice person you can't really blame her.
Professor Rickerson is a gem! She is an asset to Orange Coast College. A wonderful humanitarian, and fantastic teacher.
Very nice and very helpful. Puts nots on overhead projector so you can write it easily. Has a heavy Greek accent but if you don't understand it you can ask for clarity after class and she'll help you. She wants people to pass her class so she says EVERYTHING that will be on the test. Easy class.
love her shes soo cute and sweet and knows what shes talking about, just has a lil bit of an accent sometimes hard to understand.
Cool teacher! 2 museum visits required. Take power point notes. She gives you a study guide for the tests. So, if you study, you will get a high B or A. She offers a lot of extra credit. DON'T BUY THE BOOK! Just look pictures on the internet to study for tests, which is on the study guide.
her tests are very easy! she is not very organized but its alrite... she is very nice and good teacher~
She is Greek... and it's funny to listen to her. We spent half of the class writing down weird things she says, and the other half we weren't even there... but we still have A's. It's easy... no homework... one quiz... EASY final... lots of notes. Have fun. :)
Easy! Informative! Interesting stories!
mrs. rickerson gives lots of extra credit opportunities. test questions are straight forward. memorize the pictures and you'll do fine!
Awesome teacher. Take this class!
GRrrrEAT TEACHER! I loved this class. Wasnt interested in art at all before i took this and after prof.rickerson, my view on art has totally changed. Best teacher i ever had. Simple tests as long as u read the study guide question, which by the way has all the answers to the test. Highly recommend!
If you don't get an A in this class, you need to drop out of school immediatley and make hast to the nearest Burger King to begin your carear. Tests were exactly out of the study guide.
Excellent teacher all around. her accent is kinda cool. kinda like that guy from the ali G show not ali G but the other guy, you knopw the one from khazackistan. She's Greek though. her tests are very easy although it was kind of a pain driving to LA to do the museum papers. great
GREAT TEACHER!Exams are straight from the study guides & you need the book for slide identification. Extra notes & info she gives are not really needed. (The key:STUDY GUIDE!) Ton of extra credit and is super helpful. She is awesome and very down to earth. You must be lazy if you fail her course.
~she's a great human being!@! god bless u! ~she's the best teacher so far! ~the class was fun and very easy 2 learn! ~read all the posts below and u'll know what i mean ;)
I've got one thing to say....EASY!! She gives you the answers to about 98% of the tests on the study guide, so if you don't get an A, you're an idiot. The only thing I studied was the study guide and I got an A. You have to go to 2 museums and answer questions about it, but it's an easy A.
best professor ever!!!
Very easy class and the professor is so compassionate!!! But the lectures are boring. If you can manage to stay awake you will learn a lot.
This instructor is very passionate about teaching and makes learning fun, interesting, and keeps us motivated. She's a very caring teacher! Definetly a must!
took both art 100 and art 101. nice lady, esy class. however, she will talk about current politics that have no bearing in art history. (we got an entire lecture on 9/11) if you have conservative, republican leanings, you might consider a different prof.
She has the European loving spirit. Easy class and pretty interesting. She talks about her political opinion a lot. Her accent takes a little getting used to but overall she's a cool lady.
this lady is awesome, she makes every moment of the class fun and I am learning
She is Greek, with a very THICK accent. A very nice lady, funny too. She is such a humanitarian, always willing to help others. She gives tons of extra credit opportunities. Midterm & Final are easy, she gives you a study guide for it, just study that and you will pass the class. Take her I recommend it. I got an A!!! <>
A great human being. Her class is fun and easy. She relates everything to her travels and is very energetic. always ready to help and provide you with advice. If you study her study guide you can't miss the A. She will make an impact on you with her kindness and love for what she is doing. One of those professors you got to have
amazing teacher. she dropped me for attendence (i had 12 absences) but she was way nice and invited me to a signing of her book and told me that i had better retake her class. shes so nice to everyone too. i wish i would have showed up more.
Prof Rickerson is awesome! She lectures using PowerPoint and shows lots of pictures. She makes you aware of what's going to be on the test. She gives you a study guide that represents about 80% of what will be on the test. She is energetic, interesting, has a cute greek accent, and knows what she is talking about. Many extra credit opportunities!
you should take her classes while your at OCC.

I liked the class. She's full of it, and a bit crazy. The class requires trips to LA. I was lazy, and didn't do it. I should have scored a B anyway, since I aced her VERY easy exams. I got a 'D' instead. Had to dig up a syllabus and fight on it. She very much did NOT like somebody gaming her syllabus.
VERY EASY CLASS!! u just have to study from the study guide and u'll get an A because her test is VERY similar to the study guide!
She is the nicest person I have ever met, unless you mess with her. Her tests are super easy, she basically gives the answers to the test. She is an interesting person, intelligent, helpful, and cares for her students.
Professor Rickerson is the most generous, thoughtful person i've ever had as a teacher. the study guides questions are clearly identical to the ones on the exams. i'll admitt, i've had no interest in art history whatsoever until i took her class! by far, the easiest class you will ever take
shes soo sweet,i loved going to class. her presence makes you strive to be better. shes all about world peace and helping others. she keeps the class interesting & she has good stories. you learn a lot from her class, and she does a great job teaching it. take her class, you wont regret it. you will learn so much more from her then any other book.
the nicest and most generous lady you'll ever meet. her tests are easy and she gave a bunch of projects, but then forgot about them so she threw them out. but make sure you have the due dates for things! she forgets and then tries to take points off your grade for it! her class is a little like watching "my big fat greek wedding."
Mrs. Rickerson is a wonderful teacher and humanitarian. She is also really excited about what she teaches and that transfers over into most of her students.
Dr. Rickerson is a good professor. She is very clear and straightforward with the assignments, and her study guides for the exams are essentially identical to the tests. I highly recommend taking her course, but make sure you seriously complete all assignments / projects on time.
GREAT CLASS!! her greek accent takes some gettin used too but u learn a ton and she makes it interesting w. slides. tests are not bad if u look at the study guide. u have to go to some museums but its not hard! my fav. class this semester TAKE HER U WILL ENJOY IT.. lots of extra credit offered
very easy class, she is very nice
Yes, the class was like watching my big fat greek wedding. she's kind of a disorganized teacher, our midterm came 3/4 of the way through the semester and we blasted through the last couple sections. but all in all its really easy, i barely had to study. rickerson has a tendency to think the greeks invented EVERYTHING.
Funnest Class ever! Im not really into art and stuff, but Professor Rickerson just cracks me up sometimes. She's a cute and fun teacher and classes are really interesting. tests arent so bad if you study the review sheet. take any class with her! She's way cool.
What a waste of time. We hardly covered any material and what we did do was on about a 6th grade level intellectually. I could have learned everything we did all semester by reading the book for 2 hours. And even though I agree with Prof. Rickerson's politics almost 100%, I got really sick of her wasting class time on her political rants.
AWSOME AWSOME AWSOME TEACHER, shes sooo enthusiatic, shes the cutest lady in the world. Her passion truly shines in her teaching, and I think she is just wonderful. Easy class, tests are not cumilitive, and not tricky at all. I LOVE PROFESSOR RICKERSON, shes the greatest greek lady I've seen. TAKE HER!!!
easy class and helpful. second time taking her class
My favorite teacher. You just want to be around her. She is such a positive and enthusiastic teacher. She's a must have for art history
very sweet, positive personality... unfortunately you'll actually learn more about art history by staying home with a stack of books.
Very funny, sweet teacher. Knows a lot about her subjects, although places a high emphasis on Greece, since she's Greek. If you don't want to hear about Greek culture/heritage, don't take her classes. Has quite a bit of extra credit, lenient absence policy, and gives out a study guide which includes EVERYTHING that is on this text. An easy A or B!
Dr. Rickerson has a wonderful personality, and what I liked most about her was her constant humanitarian consciousness. The exams are simple (almost entirely from the study guide), but she is extremely unorganized, so you never really know where you stand in the class.
I have taken both classes. She has alot of heart in what she does, and really lifts your spirits! If only Irini Rickerson ran this country, maybe we could have peace on earth!
She's great at what she does! Very fun and interactive class. Got me interested in the arts. Tests/assignments are very straightforward.
Professor Rickerson is an absolute asset to orange coast. She is extremely enthusastic and energetic. She has been around the world and tells you stories about her travels. She's utterly facinating. She does have a tendency at times to go into political conversation. At times it's not necessary. But she is an absolute sweetheart and she cares for h
She was wonderful. She's nice, personal, and passionate about teaching. She's very honest, but helpful with you regarding grades, etc. A slight greek accent, but you'll get used to it. I LOVE HER
Rickerson is very passionate. Really recommend taking this class. 2 exams and everything from them is word for word from the study guides so it is crucial to do them. great powerpoint presentations and alot of oppurtunities for extra credit. easy B, w/ alittle effort a def. A
Excellent Teacher, highly recommended.
not very helpful
She's one of the nicest professors I've ever met, and her class is very easy, too. Be prepared for lots of interesting stories about her travels.
Irini is a very enthusiastic teacher! Her class was fun and easy!
Easiest class in the world. Interesting fantastic teacher. Loved it. Take it if you like As. Art not so much.
For an Honors class, this was pretty easy. In addition to the normal ART 101 assignments, you have about 5 additional projects. Prof. Rickerson is extremely understanding and is a wealth of knowledge. I recommend her without hesitation. She is one teacher you want to take before leaving OCC.
although she's a really easy professor, she's also interesting. her accounts of her travels keep the class interested. she's kind of unorganized and we barely used the book except for tests but other than that take her class if u can
I loved this class and Prof. Rickerson was great! Lectures were exciting, the movies we watched were intersting, and the projects we did were fun. Her exams are easy - multiple choice and t/f. She gives us a study guide that has exactly what will be on the mid term and final. She has a very kind heart and I just loved her!
Fairly easy professor. You can tell she really loves art, however understanding early on may be hard due to her accent. She gives you a study guide prior to the tests, fairly straight forward and easy. Expect a few projects if you take the honors section.
Easy and very interesting class. Take it and you'll simply love it.
tell you the truth i didnt study at all and i still passed this class, rickerson is the proffesor that you need, take her and you will see!
Best Art History teacher at OCC, she is really nice and cares about her students. She's well traveled and makes the class interesting with her stories. Lots of x-tra credit & we also watch movies. She wrote her own text book which was very helpful & a lot cheaper. TAKE THIS CLASS EASY A
Best teacher ever! Extremely passionate, keeps the students interested, helpful, and cares about those less fortunate. Highly recommended for art history and fine art majors!
SHE IS THE SWEETEST MOST WONDERFULLEST TEACHER YOU WILL EVER MEET! hONESTLY FIRST TIME I TOOK HER SHE WAS A DIVINE. SHES SO HELPFUL AND RATHER HUMBLE. I WILL REMEMBER HER ONCE I LEAVE THIS SCHOOL... DO TAKE HER FOR ANY ART CLASS!! I REALLY RECOMMEND HER. :D
Those looking for an easy A this is the teacher for you. She wrote the book...so all her lectures are basically word for word in the book. Before every test she reviews everything you need to know because shes looking at the test while she does it. She even asks questions right off the test. The only down side is traveling to the museums...
EASY CLASS!!! Probably the easiest way to get your art credit! She can be a little hard to understand at first bc of her greek accent but after a class or two you're set. Teaches straight from powerpoint. Classes can be kinda boring sometimes but i definitely recommend her!!
Easy class. Interesting. She dims the light in the lecture hall so you end up becomming sleepy sometimes. Get around and use to her accent and you'll do perfectly fine.
She is such a good person! I've never met a prof that actually TRUSTS their students. This class is not difficult, but that doesn't mean that you don't need to study. Read the textbook (it's actually fun to read-she wrote it) and do the questions at the end of each chapter. I love her and she is so intelligent and sweet.
BEST TEACHER EVER! She's so nice and understanding, if you need help with your grade, she will try her best. Easy A, just study what she reveiews before the tests. Her exams are easy, it's what she lectures on and very straight forward. She is a very fair teacher. If you need art, absolutely take it with her!
Very funny
Irirni is a terrific professor and anyone into architecture or just want a good interesting class, take her history of Architecture. Lots of reading out her book, but its an easy read and very interesting. No homework at all, just reading and lecture, if you know the info, tests are easy.
like the history through art concept, politics views are not really relevant to the study of art, very nice lady and seems to care a lot about her student, love her european culture.
very unoranized and doesn't respect other students' opinions.
Professor Rickerson is one of the best professors I have ever had! Rather than focusing on memorization and testing, she wants her students to truly enjoy the learning process. She is so passionate about art history and humanity- this class was the highlight of my week! If you want to learn more about art, the world, and yourself, take this class!
She was a great teacher. I have learned quite a bit in art history because of her class and book. Her class is very enjoyable.
Professor Rickerson is absolutely wonderful. I learned so much from her class. It's impossible not to since she always keeps the class engaged and interesting. It's also very clear that she cares deeply about her students' wellbeing. I'm not surprised her classes fill-up immediately. Take her.
She is such a good teacher! I think that it is impossible to not get an A in the class. She offers so much extra credit. Even though the class is easy, I still feel like I learned a lot about art and its history. Definitely take this class!
EASY CLASS!! it is literally impossible to NOT get an A+. She's very nice, you can sleep in class and still get an A! (that's what I did). Her test questions literally come from her study questions in her book. You have to go to 2 museums which sucks unless you like art. Def take this class if it's for a GE or for an easy A! She's really nice.
She is a wonderful human being. She truly cares about her students and humanity at large. Her class is very enjoyable, you learn a lot and the tests are not hard at all if you study. Her lectures are interesting and she is pretty funny too. I lover Professor Rickerson!
Really sweet woman. She truly cares about her students and enriching their lives as much as possible. She can be a little disorganized and it confuses people, but you'd have to miss something huge to not get an A. She's also extremely lenient and understanding. Easy honors class, if you can get in! I recommend her.
Irini is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet. She loves art and adores her students, so you can't help but enjoy her class. She also takes a group of students to Greece with her every year, and I went with her earlier this summer. It was absolutely amazing, so if you get the chance, go!
I've only been in her class the first few weeks of this winter semester and I think she is kind-hearted and a fabulous teacher. God has blessed us with teachers like her!
great teacher
she is a great professor. wasnt big on art before her class and still am not, but i definitely do aprreciate alot of things more. class wasnt hard, just show up and pay attention, youll do fine. occasionally gives extra credit. is very nice and has a real passion for art. class is also interesting
She is one of the best teachers I've had, not to mention a sweet and thoughtful person. She wants every student to succeed and goes out of her way for her students. She is generous and will move test dates around if the class as a whole isn't ready. She has beautiful powerpoint presentations that make learing the material easy. Take her class!
She is the best teacher I've ever had. She's so open-minded and sweet and she really cares about her students. That's something you can't say about many professors, she REALLY wants everyone to do well and cares for every single individual in the class. I'm so glad I took her! I learned about a fabulous subject taught by a fabulous teacher.
She is one of the sweetest people I have ever seen. Does everything for her students to get them good grades, and has a beautiful heart for humankind.
She's such a beautiful person inside and out. She's just a very nice and sweet lady who has the kindest heart. She's open-minded, sweet, wonderful, and a great person and teacher. If only the world had more people like her..
so sweet...loved her accent. tests are easy and short. very caring will move assignments around for her students...took the class just cause of the requirements but ended up very interested in the subject...easy A
I LOVE HER SHE IS SOO SWEET AND CARING AND LOVES SEEING HER STUDENTS SUCCEED. SHE GIVES EXTRA WEEKS IN ORDER FOR MORE STUDENTS TO TURN IN THE DUE ASSIGNMENT! THE TESTS ARE EASY..JUST STUDY! YOU NEED THE BOOK AND IT HELPS A LOTT!! GO TO HER WEBSITE www.vallerarickerson.com and you basically know what you have to do!
I seriously think everyone should learn from her! she has raised approximately $500,000 for a good cause!! She is devoted to help her students. sweet, loving, caring, and has funny stories to tell! the class itself is entertaining and she ALWAYS helps students. I never missed a day! She made the class book & it helps you a lot for tests!!TAKE HER!!
This is such an easy and interesting class. The teacher is very nice. Exams are super easy. Just pay attention in class and look over her text book, and you'll do great!
Honestly one of the most driven professors ever. She's very much into what she teaches and obviously very knowledgeable about the subject(s). Her class is interesting and her lectures are well worth attending. Gotta love those Greeks..
Very nice teacher. I seriously show up to that class for a small hour and a half nap. Easy tests. Museum visits are the only actual work to be done. Otherwise no homework or anything. GET HER!!
She makes class really relaxing with music and pictures of different kinds of Art. Her test is so easy. She even points out the pics that are on the exam throughout the lecture. She's funny and very curious about everything. Tons of extra credit! she makes me giggle.
:( IM GOING TO MISS HER! i wish i could take more of her courses, I loved going to class. she rocks! vERY NICE and cares for her students. she wants everyone to get an A, therefore she gives easy assignments, not so hard tests, 2 museum visits, and gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. TAKE HER YOU WONT REGRET IT!!!
I love her! Great Teacher and very easy. TAKE THIS CLASS.
I love her!! She's very sweet and helpful! This class is pretty easy but you learn a lot. I'd definitely recommend her!
Honors Art History, a relatively easy class if you listen to her lectures, read the book and answer the study questions. Museum visits were very enriching, can't wait to go back. Like the other students said, she is kind and cares about the subject and our community.
You must take her before you leave OCC!!
Dr. Rickerson is incredible! She's the sweetest and most patient professor I've ever had. All of her classes are interesting and worthwhile...so, if you're lucky enough to get a spot in her class (her classes fill up faster than most), take her! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
Awesome Professor equally awesome class. Prof. Rickerson is so passionate about the subject and loves teaching. Her self written book is such a great way to pay attention to class while highlighting the info. Do all the extra credit, museum visits and the study guide Q's and take your "A". HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Mrs. Rickerson is a great person and has an amazing soul, but if youre not interested in art, art history particularly... this is honestly the most boring, slow class at occ.
she is so sweet, nice, caring. and she looves teaching art history. she gives you all the answers to the tests, you just have to attend class to hear the answers.
She's great, super sweet, her assignments are easy and not a lot are assigned to you. But she's SO disorganized. I never knew which assignments were due and when I had to turn it in. Students take advantage of her niceness and it got a bit chaotic with my semester with her.
Irini is such a sweet lady. She presents us with numerous extra credit opportunities and writes a comprehensible textbook for us to use. Although art can be boring, her personality makes the class better. She will help her students get A's. Although her class can be long, sometimes she lets you out early--but you can basically leave when you want.
I actually learn quite a bit from the class. You will get as much out of the class as you put into it, I did additional research to enrich my enjoyment. She is disorganized but will point you Art History majors in the right direction. I can't wait to go to France, Italy, and NYC to see the masters that we studied!
She is the sweetest little lady and absolutely loves her students. She's very passionate about Art and knows her subject well. Her tests are extremely easy if you take good notes and skim through her book a little bit. The only annoying thing about her is she can sometimes get a bit preachy about her political views.
A wonderful and kind teacher. She takes her job seriously and is very helpful. A lot of lectures. Some tests on lectures and movies. 2 museums projects that is a must to pass and she gives a lot of extra credits..so there is no way to fell the class. I got an A in the class.
AMAZING professor. She's passionate and wants the best for every student. The study guides are identical to the test questions and you have 2 museum visits, a term paper, and 2 reading projects for the semester. Bring up your experiences overseas and she'll go bonkers. This woman deserves some respect--she knows what she's talking about.
Irini is a warm, sweet, loving professor who cares about her students. However, this is NOT a college-level course. It is probably the easiest course at Coast. She teaches out of her own book which is ridden with typos and she herself is quite disorganized. Take if you need an easy class with a nice woman - not to learn about art history, though.
Irini Rickerson is an amazing woman. she is an architect and a photographer, and she has been to so many amazing places. She is very warm and sweet. I am always excited to go to class. I knew nothing about art history or techniques and I feel that i am much more knowledgable now. Irini appreciates beauty very much and it rubs off on you :)
Irini is an amazing teacher. I always was interested in art, but now I am more than ever. She teaches in a way that connects to you. She's great. Her class is my favorite class to attend.
Mrs. Rickerson was a wonderful teacher. She is very passionate about art history. The questions at the end of the chapters of the book are all on the tests. If you study those you should do fine. The identification on the tests are hard if you do not know the characteristics of the buildings, sculptures, etc. You can get up to 30 points ec!
Very easy class. It is embarrassing if you got anything below an A. Just go to the museums (the are 2) and read her book, you will get an A.
Women in the Arts explore female artists from ancient to modern times and their vast contributions to the art world. Her teaching is uncomplicated but the message is profound. She genuinely cares about humanity and how to make changes in our community.
Great woman, but absolutely nuts! She's extremely sweet and has a beautiful heart, but forgets things easily and mixes up what she did when and what she sad when and to who. In my class she didn't follow the syllabus so turning in work was very confusing. She also uses her own textbook. But, she'll help you out if you ask her. No problem.
My fault I got a B because I couldn't make it to the Getty Villa, if you can't make museum trips, it WILL hurt you, but there is extra credit. She is a wonderful woman, and tests are crystal clear. You really don't even need to read the book, just do the reviews. She is unorganized though and forgetful.
Ok, so yea shes not the greatest teacher in the world, definitely knows her stuff tho. She wasn't clear on assignments, quizzes, and tests. I recommend reading the book, bcuz she doesn't just use the Ch. review Q.s. But i got an A.
beautiful woman with a beautiful soul...why would you not want to take this type of class? Irini Rickerson you are an inspiration
I love her passionate teaching style and I def. recommend her! She uses her own txtbk, read the chapters, do the study guide and attend class youll know whats important. Sounds like a lot but its not I swear. I did think the debate shouldve been worth more points because our group spent a lot of outside time on it. That's just for her info.Got an A
Amazing teacher. She is so passionate about what she is teaching, and also about the world we live in, and how art relates to it. She writes her own book and goes by it for all the quizzes and tests, as well as notes from her lectures. If you like art, you will love her class!
Best teacher ever! Interesting stuff no joke! Taker her! Nufff said!
An amazing lady. She is one of the best professors at OCC. She loves art, loves her students. I had two classes with her, you really learn so much. She made art history fun! Highly recommended!
Awesome teacher! Passionate heart for art! Puts her passion into her teaching and makes you want to keep listening. Easy A if you go to the museums and are there to take the tests. She'll stay after class to answer any ?s you have. Cares about her students. Take her. You wont regret it
Irini is such a passionate teacher as well as human being. She LOVES what she does and she LOVES her students. I didn't take any notes during the semester and read the book, passed with ease. Highly recommend Professor Rickerson!
Easy but time-consuming.
Irini is quite possibly the best professor at Orange Coast College. Enough said. Art History is one of those subjects that you either love or hate, and she manages to make it enjoyable for everyone.
Love this teacher! she so so passionate for art and she really makes it interesting. if you are sceptical of taking art history you will forsure like this class.
This professor is by far my favorite because of her love of teaching and genuine compassion. She wrote her own textbook which is great. Only weakness is she is absent minded and not very organized so you need to confirm work that is due.
before taking this class i had 0 interest in art history. but she is so passionate about art and her students that you cant help but love the class. she made the class fun and interesting, not to mention she wrote her own textbook! i highly recommend you take this class
Lecture is mostly a recap of the text, which she wrote herself. The tests are super easy if you just show up and don't sleep during class. She's a super nice professor; very non-judgmental and eager to help. She loves her class and topic, and it's infectious. The only difficult assignment was the Norton-Simon museum; it's a LONG drive.
Dr. Rickerson is amazing!! She is one of my favorite professors at OCC. The class itself got boring at times, and I did have trouble staying awake, but it is interesting nonetheless. She wrote the textbook for the class, so you only need to read the text for the tests and you will do well. I would recommend this class to anyone interested in art.
She loves to teach. She loves her students. She wants everyone to do well. She keeps giving us free points. Her tests are straight from the textbook of hers. Opportunity of 30 extra credits. She makes some cool power-points, or keynote (for macs). Her Greek accent is so cool.
Such a nice professor. She loves teaching and she is so lovely lol. if you skim your study guide, you will get an A. A lot of extra credit so do one of them and you are all set for A. Class sometimes boring but interesting most of time! recommended
Good Professor. Art can be boring but she tries to explain it in a good way. Tests are not hard and her true false questions are sooo obvious. Just put in a little studying and you will for sure get an A. Maximum of 30 Extra credit points are awarded. It's easy trust me!
This professor is very understandable and is great at teaching :)
Very sweet lady, loves to talk about current events. As many have said, probably the easiest teacher on campus. Will spoon feed the answers to her students. Definitely not what you will find on A UC campus. Uses her own text with lots of errors in typing and grammar.
Irini is one of the nicest professors that OCC has to offer. She reviews prior to tests and quizzes and they are rather easy as well. You'll enjoy her class and make sure to ask about her annual Greece trip if you have any interest in taking a summer vacation!
She is very easy like everyone has stated and very kind. However, the only thing that really bother me was how unorganized she was. Another disappointing part in my class at least is how she would skip over chapters that would be on the test. I found them important but she didn't have time to teach them. I just wished there was more lecture.
MUST PICK for honor students as it is an Easy A! it is true that she is not very organized but ye...lovely little lady. I came one hour late to my midterm exams (it was exam time, and i was up all night, and i wasn't thinking straight!!). Irini saw my ghost face and she understood me! She gave me a second exam! that is how considerate she is!
Very kind and caring professor. You can talk to her about anything. She wrote he one text book, which is very well written.
One of the few GREAT teachers on OCC. She's got the credentials to make your learning experience one of a kind. Grade consists of one test, midterm, final, 2 museum assignments, and various short quizes. She offers 30pts extra credit! Perfect for non-art majors. Its reeeally hard to NOT get at least a B in this class.
Awesome professor and super easy class. Her test questions come directly from the study questions at the end of each chapter in her book.
Greek teacher, art was very interesting and entertaining! Good easy teacher! TAKE HER TO RAISE GPA:)
Best teacher ever!!! If she had a class about watching paint dry I would take it. She may not lecture about every section in her well written book but if you actully listen you will know exactly what will be on the tests. I love Irini
SUCH AN AMAZING TEACHER! Easy class, very interesting. She is so caring, helpful, and kind! She cares about her students, which is so refreshing! Definietly recommend this class!
Lovely lady, she enjoys teaching art and all she wants at the end of the course is for you to learn something about art. I've learned quite a lot from her course and enjoyed it but it could get bland sometimes. 1 mditerm and 1 final all fill in the blank (cram like crazy) a bunch fo hw's and 2 museum visits. she offers extra credit but not a lot.
She's a reaaaally nice and sweet lady, but her teaching style is whack. Class is SUPER easy. There is a lot of reading, but just pay attention to the study guide at the end of each chapter. One time I just whimmed it by circling whatever on the scantron, and I still got a high A in the class. Awesome. Do the extra credit!
She is a very nice lady and loves the subject! Study the artwork and book and you will do fine. She offers extra credit and drops the lowest test score. Id say shes pretty good at informing you but this is college you have to study.
Eaaaaaaasy A class, You just have to study the study guide at the end of each chapter. Professor Irini is so helpful!
One of the most wonderful women I've ever met. She is incredibly caring and is just all around an amazing professor. Taking her class made me a better person. Her eloquent book contains a study guide at the end of each chapter; review the study questions and attend the lectures and you will achieve an A without any trouble.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. Loves art history and is great at teaching it. She really wants you to do well in the class. Only 3 tests not including the final and she drops the lowest test score. Is always willing to help. Tests are straightforward, really easy. Read the book and pay attention in class and you'll get an A.
Super easy class. She is the sweetest lady and truly wants her students to do well. Buy her book and do the study guides at the end of each chapter because they are pretty much EXACTLY HER TEST. I had her for Art 100,101, and 108 and it was the same way for all of them. GREAT CLASS TO RAISE YOUR GPA!
Passing the class depends on you're ownership of a car and you're ability to go on 3 to 5 hour trips! Getting information depends on you're ability to navigate two school websites and her personal website and interpret the occasionally conflicting information! Passing the tests requires you to study from the textbook, not the classroom lectures!
I listened to her lecture, reviewed a little before tests and got an A. She was telling stories rather than lecturing, which will help you remember the lessons in class. She's caring, passionate and knowledgeable. Some students skipped class, talked in class, slept...because she was too easy and complained about her class, which I think hilarious.
She deserves respect for her being so nice, caring and her wide knowledge. There's a simple study guide each chapter which covers mostly everything on her tests. There are students who do not come to class to study but to surf the web reading comics or sleep. I don't know why Irini didn't kick them out.
She is such a lovely human being, and originally I took this class dreading it, but she made it easy to understand and interesting. She does have her own book which has helpful study guides on the back. Do those, go over the book, and you'll do really well on the tests. She also tells you what exactly will be on the tests!
She wants her students to do well and is passionate about the art. She makes lessons interesting and makes tests easy. What more do you ask for?
If you want an A take her! SUPER DUPER easy!!! Just study the study guide and you'll pass I promise ! MY FIRST A IN COLLEGE YAAAYYYYYY!!!!!
Easy. Just attend, take notes, do the study guide, and you'll get an A. There are two mandatory museum visits. Check out syllabus (google it). That's about it. I didn't even bother to turn in my extra credit. Easy A.
Professor Rickerson is one of the best art teachers you will have at Orange Coast College. She makes art history interesting and fun. She has a wonderful personality and loves her job. Her tests are super easy and uses the exact same questions from the study guide on her test.
This was my first art history class and I enjoyed it a lot. Irini is extremely passionate about art history. I'm currently an art history major and Irini makes me even more interested in the major. I was always happy to attend her class every week. She's quite easy, her tests are based off her study guides in her textbook. You'll love her!
My first art class and it was the easiest class ever!! Didn't study and I got an A.
Wow, can't get any easier than taking this class. If you don't get an "A" then you have a serious problem. She is truly an amazing teacher, loved her.
Irini is the best art teacher ever. Classes are fun and inspirational. Tests are an easy A as long as you fill out the study questions at the end of the chapter and study the painting names and artists. A lot of extra credit opportunities so take them! However, don't just read this and slack off. You really do have to work for those tests.
Professor Rickerson has the kindest heart of any professor at OCC. She makes Art History interesting and gives MANY chances for extra credit so take advantage of it- it raised my grade from a C to an A because I don't test well.
I LOOOOOVVVEEEE PROFESSOR RICKERSON! She is so passionate about what she teaches and has so many interesting ((but relevant)) stories. The honors class does require a research paper, but it's nothing demanding like previous AP English level essays like back in high school. There are study guides at the end of every chapter, plus she wrote the book.
One of the greatest professors EVER!!! Highly recommend taking her class. Super easy, and she is so sweet.
She is an awesome teacher. You have to buy her textbook from her. 65. The textbook is SO worth it though. It is written in a way that it step by step and has all the information that you need in bold. Lectures are interesting and make you laugh once in a while. Tests are EASY. You do have to pay to visit two art museums for two take home tests
If you've ever wondered about some of the greatest artist who ever lived, she will passionately tell you all about them, their art, and the music during their period. She's also an architect and is very knowledgeable in structures. She is very personable, you can talk to her. One of my FAVORITE classes ever!
Really great professor! Has great pride in Greece, often talks about other related art stuff, like current news, etc. Very passionate and lively in her lectures. Tests are easy. Just do the study guide questions in her book. (BTW: The last textbook edition has the same exact questions as the current edition. I've compared them.)
She's very nice and helpful. Her accent can be tough to understand at times, but it did not prevent me from receiving an A. Show up to see the photos of pics on the test, do the extra credit, study the study guide & you're good to go. Super nice teacher!
She's probably the nicest professor you'll have at OCC. Her honors course consisted of 3 tests, a group project, and a final. Her lectures are very interesting and she has a great amount of experience in her field. The only drawback is that sometimes what she wants and what her syllabus states can vary, but her extreme flexibility makes up for it.
She's AMAZING!!!!!!! but the lectures are boring and its so tempting not to go but!!! Its essential to passing, she gives you information during the lectures that are not in the book. If your interested in art history and the role of women in art! Then this class is a must. She is the sweetest professor you'll ever meet!
I love Irini, she is probably one of my favorite teachers of all time. She is so kind and adorable. She is passionate about what she teaches and will go out of her way to help you. Take her even if you aren't an art major, because she will inspire you. Tests and Quizzes are easy, straight from the book. She wrote the text book. Little bit of e.c.
Professor Irini Rickerson is amazing. She will take you on a journey and will make you discover the most beautiful artworks. I recommend her class to all who love the arts.
I LOVE IRINI! She is the nicest lady you will ever meet. She inspires her students and you can see the passion she has for teaching about the arts. Her class is fun and super easy. She wrote the text book, and the questions on her tests are straight from the book. She really cares for her students and wants them to succeed. 1010 would recommend!
Professor Rickerson is amazing! I'm not an art major, but students from my other classes recommended her, so I ended up taking her 101H class. She's a great professor, who is extremely knowledgeable about art history (she literally wrote the book), and is just a great person. Definitely take this class, whether you're an art major, or not.
Irini is hilarious even though her Greek accent is a little hard to understand. She doesn't follow her own schedule so if you miss a day of class you could miss an important quiz or test and not know it because it was meant for another day.
Irini is hands down the most passionate teacher I have ever met. Not only this, but she is perhaps the sweetest lady to ever grace this earth. SHe is truly an ethereal human being who cares for her students like a grandparent would. She is hilarious and down to earth in her lectures, she loves to discus real life issues. Would take her again!
She drops an entire exam grade! There's 1 research project but you get to pick your topic so you're genuinely interested in it. Her book is so easy to study from and her exams are straight forward if you do the questions at the end of each chapter. Have to go to 2 museums but they're actually fun. Teaches you how to construct an Honors level paper.
She is an amazing and inspirational women. I would love to have her again.
Most passionate teacher I've ever had. Also, one of the sweetest. Good combo. Wrote the textbook which is very easy to study from. I had FUN studying for her exams. Just take her class and show up. You won't regret it.
Irini is an amazing professor and person. She is so knowledgeable about art history and makes an effort to create really interesting lectures. The book she made is beautiful and has a ton of great information. If you do the study guides in the back of the book, you will do well in the class. Her class was my favorite to date. Highly recommended!!!
Disorganized. She is a very great person but is lacking when it comes to connecting what is discussed in the lecture, to the actual test. Long usually off topic lectures. Tests are strictly textbook material. Attendance would not have to be needed if there weren't any pop quizzes. I love art n history, but you will lose your mind with boredom here
She's a really nice woman but her class is too much. I feel like the material taught in class wasn't always on the test. You have to buy her book which is 70/75$ and you need to have it in order to pass the tests. She's a nice woman but I think a test review would have been more helpful before all tests! At least she drops the lowest one!
This professor has a huge heart, she will help you and explain the work in detail. She stays on track, makes it fun, and her textbook is helpful. You must read the textbook to stay on track. The test were pretty hard, however nothing some studying won't help you with. The "Are You Listening" pop test are a bit hard, so listen throughout the lecture
Professor Rickerson such an amazing professor. Her lectures are very interesting. You never get bored in her class. It was my first Honors class and I didn't regret taking it. Be ready to write good notes in her class and read her amazing book. Her book is very fun and good written.
Do the study guide, and get an A. This is my second course with Irini. Her lectures can be a bit lengthy, but she's just adorable. If you're trying to fulfill you GE requirement and get an A, this is the class for you!
You can sleep through the whole semester and get a B in her class. The final does cover some information that is outside the book, so make sure you listen to her lecture during the last few weeks. Overall, tests are very easy and based on the study guide. The museum extra credits are pretty interesting. Driving there is not that interesting though.
I love professor Rickerson. I can see I'm not the first and I sure won't be the last. Sensational for the student who is serious about education as a passionate and engaging experience.
I love professor Rickerson. I can see I'm not the first and I sure won't be the last. Sensational for the student who is serious about education as a multidisciplinary experience of knowledge.
She's SO great, I've never really known what I've wanted to major in or what I've wanted to do but she's so inspiring and so nice and understanding. You don't really need the book its good for tests because there are study guides in it but other than that you're golden!
Love her! She is amazing
Professor Rickerson cares about her students a lot. Her tests are super easy and all of the questions on the test are in the back of the book of the book she tells you to purchase at the beginning of the semester. Overall, great teacher and I would take her again!!
TAKE HER! She is the sweetest lady in the world! The book was made by her and SUPER EASY to read! Her lectures follow the book so you don't need to take notes just read the book. Her tests are easy if you read. TAKE THE HONORS CLASS! It's not a hard honors class. Read & you'll pass.
Irini is the sweetest professor on this planet. She is fruitful in her field and knows how to connect with present issues. She's an easy A but make sure you read the textbook and do the study guide questions! Other than that, she is more than happy to encourage and engage with her students with anything they need.
I took Professor Rickerson's Honors Art History 100 course. She is a doll! Very concerned with that her students have to say whether it is regarding art, social issues, the weather-- anything Greek goes over with a smile. I will be taking her honors 101 class in the spring. She is such a joyful lady- to EVERYONE.
Irini is the cutest little woman in the world! She is so extremely kind with a huge heart. If you have any difficulties or problems, she will compromise and understand you. I walked out her class with new open eyes to distinguish different art characteristics. She offers a lot of extra credit and if you do the study guide, you will ace her exams.
This review Is long overdue! I had the pleasure of taking Irini for Art100 last Fall in 2015. Irini has truly opened my eyes to the beauty of the earth and architecture around me. She is so incredibly sweet and loves her students. She has a true passion! I would definitely recommend taking her class. An easy A if you come to class & pay attention.
Irini was one of the best professors that I ever had! The whole class loved her. Not only does she have an amazing background in art, she is one of the nicest people in the world who would do anything for her students. She created an AIDS charity benefit and an art therapy program for Syrian refugees in Greece. Can't wait to take 101H next semester
I'm very proud to have learned what I learned in her class. Her book is fun to read. She very reasonably lets you know what to expect on the upcoming tests. Fun extra credit opportunities. She respects her students very much. The class was really easy, tests were easy. Her lectures are fun, they may seem like a slide-show, but the content was fun
Amazing teacher! Very inspirational and is willing to help her students. She wrote her own textbook that's very interesting. Have to read to help you with the study guides but answers are in the book and study guides are just like the tests. Fun extra credit opportunities. Would take this class again
DO NOT TAKE HER. She has a strong accent and Does not make a clear statement in lecture.
She radiates kindness and genuineness. Her love and passion for art is clear through her lectures. Yes, she has an accent but so what? Her grading is clear and offers extra credit opportunities. Take her study guides seriously and you will pass with an A. I've taken two classes with her and I would love to take another. Irini Rickerson is a gem!
It would be hard to list all the good things I have to say about Irini . As a professor, she has a captivating amount of passion and knowledge about everything she talks about & time flies! And if you like architecture then this is the art class for you. Tests are straight forward w/S.G. for each one. Easy quizs. Actually kept her book its so good!
Professor Rickerson is exceptional Teacher; she is knowledgeable, inspirational and heartfelt person. She explains everything in great details, her book is very interesting and a piece of art itself. I took this class to meet my GED requirements, but now I am considering to take more art classes in the future. I strongly recommend this class .
one word would be too much to describe this class, so ill do it in 2 letters... E Z. Book has study guides. Do them and you'll get an A.
Her class is very easy and no one should fail her class. 4 exams and 2 mandatory museums with questions and essay. Also, her lectures are very interesting, but she's goes really fast. Just follow along the textbook and remember the answers on the back of the book because it will be on the exam.
She is probably the easiest professor possible at OCC. Her lectures are very clear and her exams are almost word for word the study guides. Not only will you get an easy A, you will actually gain some new knowledge about art. Very fun assignments and you will learn a few new things by the end of the semester. Definitely recommend taking her.
Professor Rickerson is an exceptional Teacher. She is extremely knowledgeable and VERY caring, making students comfortable in the subject. I took Art 101 for credit last semester, and I so much enjoyed the class, that I attended Art 100 just for fun this fall.
What an amazing proffesor. I have nothing negative to say. She is so sweet and caring to her students. She will work with you no matter what. She goes the extra mile for all her students. Her class is easy to pass if you show up and do the two clear and simple assignments she assigns. Extra credit is easy. She is hiliarous and I love her lectures.
I've taken her for Art 100 & 101 now, she's a sweet lady and has passion for what she does. Sometimes it was hard to stay awake though just because it seemed to be the same thing over & over. Her AIDS benefit was very nice though & her course assistant was very helpful. Overall easy classes, just study pages she tells you to. 101 is much better.
Shes really sweet & passionate about what she does. I really liked her but her teaching style was pretty boring & her accent isnt as bad as people say it is. It should be a fairly easy A if you show up to class & do the study guide in the back of her book.
Professor Rickerson set a new standard for professors at OCC. She's so passionate about what she teaches, is such a sweetheart, and tries to connect with her students a lot. She truly wants everyone to do well on her tests, so the tests are quite easy as long as you do the recommended study guide. I'm taking another class of hers next semester!
Super sweet little Greek woman! She has her own text book that she uses and all of her lectures and tests are directly from the text book. Study directly from the chapter reviews in the book and you'll easily get an A. She makes class very interesting. She also gives a lot of extra credit opportunities if you need it. 10/10 would take again.
Best teacher i have ever had gives plenty of extra credit and such a great and fun class with amazing subjects would always take her 100% best teacher ever
A very pleasant experience taking her class, but she gets off-topic a bit too often.
Easiest class.
She's absolutely the most loving professor that I've ever had in my life!
She has a lot of personal stories related to the content. Its mostly slides and lecture. I learned a lot about history from her. Tests are a mix of multiple choice, and slides w/ multiple choice.
Easiest A Ive ever got! Skipped class 3 days, pop quizzes are easy! And drops lowest test grade other than the final
Easy A, just show up class. Provide many extra credits. Buy her textbook and read the guideline. There is no reason to fail the class or even get below A.
Took her night class and felt so relaxed, tests are not hard her study guides are answers from the text book that she wrote, hilarious and pure her lectures are actually interesting. It takes a class or two getting used to her accent but I dont think Ill ever have a professor make an impact in my life as she did. Cares about her students deeply.
Took Art 100 and 101 in her class. There are three or four extremely easy tests and she drops the lowest test score (my lowest score was a 91%). All I did was show up and maybe took two pages of notes all semester.
This was one of the best classes Ive taken on campus. Irini is so caring and is willing to help everyone. This class is really easy, the tests are easy if you study for them.
When I took her class, she generally wasn't able to finish all of the test info in time, but youre good if you know exactly whats on the study guides (which is in the back of her book, which she makes fairly affordable) you really dont need to know anything more than whats on the study guides, and theres a lot of EC. prepare to buy museum tickets
She has a thick Greek accent that you'll get used to after a few weeks. Lectures explain art produced by a specific culture along with the social and political history of the area. Tests are all multiple choice w/ art slides. Study guides are in the back of her book. Lots of extra credit.
Kindest professor ever! TAKE HER CLASS!
Irini is an amazing professor, and an even better person. She truly cares about her students, and gives all the time she has to them. I was lucky to have had her, and so is anyone who takes her class. If you fail with her, its you not her. She gives so much opportunity to excel, and that places your grade in YOUR hands.
Irini is an amazing human being, fun and caring. Not the most organized human in the world, a lot of missing pieces from lectures, and they weren't given in chronological order for tests. 95% of the test questions are from the study guides in her book. Drops lowest test grade. Don't buy Athletries, there is a copy in the library. Not hard to pass.
professor could be a tad bit more organized but overall she is a super nice teacher and cares for her students textbook is up for checkout in library so purchasing it isn't mandatory no homework one pop quiz in the start of semester, one more quiz, 4 tests (lowest grade gets dropped) and a final
She is the sweetest lady. I took her 3 hour night class and she made it bearable. This class is taking good notes and memorizing key terms and how to spot them on a piece of art/structure. She provides extra credit through a benefit she holds and going to a museum. I don't think buying her $80 textbook was worth it, just pay attention in class!
Irini was a very interesting professor. She gave a lot of detail in her lectures and did engage with her students. However, sometimes she would get off track and would end of confusing some students. I ended up with a C in her class because I had missed one single day that we happened to have a quiz on and we couldn't make them up.
Easy A but I am interested in learning, and she made a fascinating subject a drag. Lectures are her ranting about irrelevant concepts. She means well but not everyone should teach. She makes you buy her $80 textbook directly from her which is spiral bound regular printed paper like she made them at Fedex. Riddled with typos. Lots of Extra Credit op
Sweetest professor. She offers a study guide on the back of her book which is basically the test. She also offers a good amount of extra credit. Lectures could become a little boring but still good! She has a thick greek accent. She has a lot of passion in what she does! There is one mandatory field trip to the Getty that was fun!
Her book is full of interesting insight. The course offered a very broad view of 6 centuries of art and she did an awesome job summarizing main points. Test were way too easy tho. Anyway, lectures were inspirational: she does not focus only on her subject but speaks to you from her heart about life and love. It was amazing getting to know her!
Professor Rickerson is so sweet and a great teacher. Her lectures were so interesting and her textbook was amazing. Class wasn't hard as long as you put time into studying.
Lecture heavy. Very unorganized. She wrote the textbook. Tests always had a few curveballs but were generally easy if you read the book. Changed the date of the final without any major announcement and cancelled the last day of class... which would have been cool, if I had known. lol.
Irini's art history class was intriguing! Her lectures were a lot, but, she made it interesting to learn. She really sparks your artistic and cultural side into life. The homework wasn't too much, but, there are constant pop quizzes after every lesson or so. Overall, she's not a bad art history professor, I'd recommend.
She guest lectured a few of my classes for another art course with a different professor. she went above and beyond to lecture our class even with time differences. She offered incredible knowledge and genuine interest in her field which made it all the more enjoyable to learn from her. An incredible professor and well respected person.
