She is a super sweet lady but she is a very new professor who makes statistics way more complicated than it should be. I would not recommend taking her unless you want to teach yourself. Attendance is not mandatory but highly recommended because she notices who goes to class and will help you with your final grade if you are a regular attendee.
She does not cover the material properly. You will have to teach yourself. She will not explain how to use JMP unless you go to office hours, which for some is not possible. She stops class to tell people to leave if they are on their computers or phones.
It's very obvious she's a new professor, but she's learning as the semester goes on. I-clicker quizzes every week at the beginning were awful, allows formula sheets now. Isn't very good at explaining things so you will have to work around that. Exams aren't cumulative and you get formula sheets and extra credit questions. I've definitely had worse.
She's a very sweet lady, and if you're on good terms with her, she tends to help you out. She has no idea how to do STATS on a calculator. she makes you do everything by hand, which makes it so much harder than it already is. She's not the best teacher, and the exams are really hard and nothing like her reviews, or even 4.0's tutoring reviews.
definitely new at the whole "professor" thing. homework and quizzes are every week, but the "necessary" JMP program is only needed for 1 homework. exams aren't cumulative and you can use a formula sheet. she has definitely improved over the course of the semester. but she WILL kick you out of class if she sees you on your phone.
She is nice, but not nice enough to justify how bad of a professor she is. When she is teaching (off of powerpoints that she did not even make or probably read beforehand) she often asks the class when she gets confused. One quiz a week that is very hard. Don't buy textbook, instead go to outside tutoring like Tutor John or 4.0, helps for the test.
Gets confused while giving her own lectures. Don't pay for the textbook and pay for outside tutoring instead. Stopped going to class after Exam 1 and taught myself everything. Tests are not very comparable to the practice exams she provides. Does curve the tests, which is nice! Overall, would not recommended AT ALL. Worst professor I've had yet.
One quiz every week and they're hard. 3 midterms and they're tricky. Homework is easy. Focuses more on understanding concepts on exams and knowing which equations to use. No cheat sheets on exams, only formula sheets. Does not tolerate cell phone use in class (will kick you out). Reads from powerpoint in lectures and she does a sign in sheet.
very nice lady, she genuinely cares about her students but is not really an effective teacher. Quiz every week. 2 exams and a final(which was non-cumulative!) curves a little, which helps A LOT. Going to her office hours helps if you have no idea what she says in lecture. she explains in better detail there...
Quiz every wednesday through an app, definitely go to class to understand. Formula sheets allowed on tests, seemed like everyone had a tough time, she curves tests. Really is a sweet lady, wants you to understand, asks for class understanding, but doesn't put up with phones
Weekly quizzes were hard and timed but worth a lot. Weekly homework was extremely easy. Midterm and exam were very challenging. Difficult to understand. Studying everyday is required. Very nice professor but not the most effective.
Dr. Magallanes is a very caring professor and really wants you to understand the material. I did not invest much time into this course and I will probably receive a B. Her English isn't the best but I don't think its horrible by any means. YOU CAN DO WELL if you do ALL of the practice exams, they are very helpful bc tests are harder than the HW.
Conceptually, some of the material is really difficult and she doesn't always do a great job of laying it all out during lecture. However, I highly suggest going to office hours! She really wants to work with you and cares that you understand the material. If you go to class and office hours I think you'll do fine! (ps GO. TO. CLASS.)
Dr. HM was nice but I did not enjoy this class or her teaching style at all. She pretty much just read off the powerpoint in class. I studied but honestly still never knew what to expect on her exam. Lengthy homework, weekly quizzes and only two exams and a final (worth 30% of the overall grade). Had a low A all semester until the final.
I don't know why she has such bad reviews, she is a good professor. Statistics is just a very hard subject that you have to work for and cant just blow off. If you have to take statistics it's going to be hard with whoever you take. Dr. Hernandez is willing to help with whatever questions you have
Very nice lady and she means well however her teaching style is not the greatest, she basically reads off every slide and can often leave you more confused about topics than prior to going to class. Quizzes every other week or so and at times very lengthy homework. I have never studied so much for a course only to still do so poorly on exams.
First off: Super nice lady. You can tell she genuinely cares and wants her students to succeed. However, that's about the only good thing. She's awful at explaining the content and often gets confused herself while doing lecture. The homework (Which is every week and very lengthy) is extremely difficult, and is almost never explained in the lecture
Initially, I was scared to take this class because the reviews were so low. Turns out this is such an easy class! Prof isn't great at teaching, but you get a cheat sheet (a full page!) for EVERY test, even the final. The workload is low (hw once a week), and the answers to everything are online if you need help. Lowest hw & quiz grade dropped too!
This professor is a sweet lady, but is not the best at teaching. As she tries to explain a concept she becomes confused herself, and she also tends to over explain concepts which ended up confusing me more.
Hernandez was not a bad professor and knew her stuff, she just tended to spend too much time explaining simple things which wasted time. I found it hard to learn from lectures and instead learned from the homework problems and online practice. If you took statistics before, the class will not be hard. If not, try to find a friend to study with.
The class overall is not hard. Will make a B because it was not taught very well. She sometimes finds ways to make easy topics seem extremely difficult. She is a very respectful professor, polite, and does care but seems to have a hard time explaining the topics in a way the student will understand.
Dr. Hernandez is a really sweet lady, but not a very good teacher. She makes really simple ideas super complex and it's difficult to follow along during class. I went to nearly all of her office hours and it still didn't help. I would recommend getting a tutor for this class.
This is literally one of the worst professors I've ever taken. She doesn't teach at all, most of her exams and homeworks are barely readable because of the poor english and she has no problem with most of the class making between 20-40 on quizzes. The average for our final exam was in the 60's and she clearly has no problem with failing students.
I dont think this course was meant to be difficult but her poor teaching is what made it difficult. She makes the material so much more harder to understand even if it was a simple concept. I mainly learned from the homework because her lectures always left me more confused than I already was. The average for the final was in the 60s...
Teaching style is awful. Makes it way more difficult than it should be. Stats is not full of hard concepts, but she sure makes it feel that way. Dont take her if you want to actually learn anything.
3.5 if I could. Professor Hernandez is a sweet woman & cares about her students and their success. She drops questions on quizzes/tests and provides little bits of extra credit for helping her in class. Attendance is important as you have participation questions that only unlock during class. Homework is easy & light. The lectures weren't the best.
She is not the best at communicating with her students, many times when a student voices a concern it gets straight up ignored. She does lots of participation and will give some extra credit so that should boost your grade. However, if you really want to learn and understand the material without having to teach yourself don't take her.
The curriculum was not necessarily hard, she just was not good at teaching. She would also mess up a lot on questions on homework and put the wrong answer, so be weary. The tests were also much more difficult than the homework. If you have the opportunity take this class at a community college, this class requires a lot of teaching yourself.
Intro to statistics should not be this difficult to learn, especially when you have to learn it online. I feel like she makes it hard to understand concepts when they shouldn't be that hard. I would not reccomend this class, I am sure you can find other courses to take. Test are not very similar to homework problems.
I felt as though this course was an over-complication of a fairly simple subject. This course really challenged me. She is difficult to follow in class, and has an unfortunate habit of making one feel inferior when theyre not grasping the content (though I am sure that is not her intention). 4 exams total and she doesnt offer more than 2 bonus pt
This professor is a sweetheart, don't get me wrong, but if you like to learn in an organized and comprehensible environment do not take this professor. Lectures are all over the place and very hard to follow. I got through this class looking up how to's on youtube after every class to try and make sense of everything. Textbook helped, but not much.
There are few grades, so you've really gotta do well. Irma's pretty kind and a great person, she's not the best at explaining. protip: learn how to use normalcdf and invnorm on your calculator. TA review sessions are also pretty helpful. Overall an easy class but for someone like me who's taking it for the first time, it can be pretty difficult.
She likes students to be interactive during lecture. Very kind and fair. Her lecture PowerPoints are little chaotic and hard to follow at times, she skips around. Provides other opportunities for additional help. A homework a week and tests are fair, small curve. I got the textbook but never used it. Not as hard as I thought statistics would be.
poor english made this class very difficult. even though I'd taken this class before, it was a struggle to understand topics the way that she understood. test questions were worded poorly due to her language barrier. avoid at all costs.
irma cannot teach to save her life. i got a 5 on the ap stats test so this class should have been really easy. but it wasn't. find someone else.
Professor Magallanes is very hard to understand, doesn't answer questions very clearly, and her lectures are so chaotic I have a headache by the end of class. She is a really sweet lady and I can tell that she's trying, but she is so unorganized. she doesn't give enough examples in class and makes the test harder than the homework. Overall, 1/10.
She is very kind. Her test questions were always worded weird and as someone who has taken many classes involving stats, you learn infinitely more in AP stats (or a psychology class). The material should be easy for ppl new to stats but it's made confusing by her teaching. Not concise or clear and sometimes contradicts herself.
save yourself the trouble and take stats at a community college. her lectures and homework are crazy disorganized and i believe she even misrepresented a huge concept on an exam once. she is so so sweet but very confusing. i spent hours on khan academy, thats what saved my grade. love her as a person but would NOT recommend her as a prof :(
This prof is a little hard to understand due to her accent and her lectures are hard to follow if you don't give 100% of your attention to them. However, she does allow cheat sheets on exams which are very helpful. If you don't mind doing some self educating you can definitely pass.
The lectures were a little hard to follow. If you participate in class she'll give you some points for your exam grade. I don't recommend her unless you took stats in high school. There was a small curve for each exam. She will kindly answer any question you have, but the way she answers could potentially confuse you more.
Love her! So respectful and helpful. Goes out of her way to make sure everyone understands. The information is a little tricky but go to the recitations and youll be good.
The professor's lectures are hard to follow and the material is hard to understand. She does class participation quizzes every class which counts as your attendance. The tests are difficult, she allows you a "cheat sheet", but I didn't find much use for them as you cannot put in class examples on them. I would reccomend another professor.
You can tell she cares about her students, but her test are tricky. Each test is worth %25, and there is not a lot of room for error. I found the class to be difficult and the lectures not helpful. She offered extra credit, but if you did it wrong she removed 5 points from a test grade. There is plenty of other prof for stats at TAMU, take them.
She cares about her students and wants everyone to succeed. She has provided extra credit and is easy to reach outside of class. Her test are difficult, but I find her office hours and TA to be very helpful. I definitely would not call the class easy, but I do think it is possible to get an A. Take Dr. Irma!!
Her test are the hardest thing I have ever taken. Other people in stats seem to have an easier time, take them. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS
The 75% of your grade is based on 3 exams, so there isn't much room for error. But she is wants to best for her students and is very generous with extra credit opportunities. While she does have an accent, I sat in the back of the class all year and could understand her fine. The practice tests and homework are very useful for studying.
nope not for me
I think the amount of negative reviews she has is ridiculous. She teaches like any other math prof - explains slides, works through practice problems, gives weekly homework, and 3 tests. It's not hard stuff if you pay attention. The people in my class groupchat that complained about her and did poorly in her class were the same people that skipped.
She doesn't teach!!!! You basically have to teach yourself stats. She will give random bonus points but other than that don't recommend taking this class if you want a professor that actually teaches.
I'm writing this as I'm about to drop the class!!! She is a kind person but not a good teacher. She teaches her lectures and slides in a way that makes you think the exams would be easy but they are so far from it. We have 3 exams and they are basically our entire grade. She uses a different website for HWs so they are not linked yet.Don't take her
Dr. Hernandez is really sweet, but her lectures aren't very helpful. I basically have to teach myself before every test and there are only 3 (2 midterms and a final). She has daily participation, and she is willing to be flexible with grades which are nice. Overall the class is definitely manageable but I definitely wouldn't say it is an "easy A".
Dr. Hernandez was a good professor in making sure everyone understood the material. The class is not easy, even though it might seem that way at first. Lets you bring a formula sheet to exams, 3 tests including the final are 75% of your grade so study hard! Material can be a little confusing because it's a lot of critical thinking. A is possible.
Idk why she has so many bad reviews, I thought she was a great prof. HW and reviews set you up perfectly for the exam & she is sweet and always willing to answer questions. Often gives out extra credit if you consistently participate in lecture. She does take attendance so don't skip. Also lots of recitation/office hours for help.
Her lectures are boring and her slide shows are bad. She is a nice lady, and is flexible with the grades (she curved my high C+ to a B) however she is not a good teacher. Take her if you want to teach yourself stats and fall asleep during class that you have to go to because she does participation questions for a grade.
I was a little surprised to see these reviews. However I can see how if you have not taken statistics before this, how it could be a difficult class. The tests are not difficult if you study and you need to attend class to understand the material. She's accessible outside of class and a nice lady.
This class isn't impossible to succeed in but it is still challenging. The lessons are pretty boring, but I think she teaches well. The notes are really helpful and get pretty straight to the point. Show up to class, stay awake, and you will at least get a B. Even though her lessons are boring, she's really nice and helpful if you're lost in class
Her lectures are very boring especially at 8am. If you have not taken a stats class before this, you will find it difficult. Her week in review sessions go over practice problems which are very helpful to review for the tests. You are graded on participation so make sure you're in class.
She was extremely disorganized and seemed confused on the material she was lecturing on. I would recommend watching Prof Leonard on YouTube because that carried me throughout the class. I had a couple friends who had to q drop the class. One of the worst profs I've ever had.
Dr. Irma was a solid teacher, she was straightforward with her lectures although they could be a bland. BEWARE OF THE QUIZZES I can't stress this enough, the questions are tricky and are 6-8 questions long so there isn't room for error. She gave us extra credit at the end of the semester as well. Some of these reviews are dramatic don't listen.
She was super sweet and funny but her teaching was all over the place. It was very confusing learning new material and we would jump around back and forth. The worst part is that the main source of extra credit in the class was being able to answer questions out loud about new material to receive points on the next test... which was really hard
The way extra credit was given wasn't very fair, and I had to go back and relearn everything before tests. It is possible to do well but she wasn't very organized. She was super helpful during office hours tho.
Her powerpoints do not make sense with the way she teaches . She jumps back and forth on subject and has no clear structure in her methods of teaching.
She tends to be nice in the beginning but has very little patience with students and will assume you are not trying despite good grades. There's attendance every class and while it's just participation, she is very harsh on excused absences and will not be understanding. So I hope you are perfectly healthy in order to take her class.
She can be confusing sometimes, but the concepts are relatively easy if you try to understand them. Most people don't show up to class so they struggle. Quizzes are open notes, and we were allowed 1 cheat sheet for exams 1 and 2 for exam 2. The course can be difficult sometimes, but if you show up, pay attention, and do the work, you'll be fine.
Homeworks are easy 100s, use the key if stuck. Quizzes are open-note, she dropped 1. Use discussion board for questions and attend week-in reviews, Dr. Hernandez is not the best explainer. Study hard for exams as they are 75% of your grade, including final. Go to class as you can miss up to 5 points on your overall avg for not going
Worst mistake to do in this class is to pay attention to her. She will confuse her and thats what affected my learning because she tends to confuse herself. Go over the material yourself and if you have questions go to the TA. her office hours she tended to go in long rants as to how to get your answer, didnt know how to simplify for comprehension
She's one of the nicest professors you'll ever meet, but she is not the best when it comes to teaching. I had to do all my learning from youtube videos. She often confuses herself, which made this class harder than it should've been. There are 3 tests including the final and that make up 75% of your grade. She offers extra credit as well.
This class is very difficult because she confuses herself a lot. She makes the concepts more difficult than they need to be. Her quizzes and tests do not reflect what she says is going to be on them very well, it's a teach yourself class. Use the homework and attendance quizzes to boost your grade.
She's nice but her class isn't well organized and she can be hard to understand, if you take the slideshow she gives you and rewrite and organize those notes better you'll do great. The TA's are super helpful for any homework questions.
Dr. Hernandez-Magallanes is an okay professor. Quizzes are open note and you get a formula sheet on all exams but the material is really hard and she doesn't always do a good job of teaching it. She seems to get confused a lot, but if you participate and answer questions, you can get bonus points and will understand better.
Dr. Hernandez is very nice but it is a lot of material and work. The homework's take a long time and the quizzes aren't the easiest, even though you can use your notes. For each test you get cheat sheets, but they did not seem to help me much. She does participation quizzes almost every day that are worth points at the end.
Just very mid, don't expected much from her. You will not learn anything from class try and stay away from her she is not the best.
Irma is a wonderful person and cares about her students, but STAT201 is just a difficult course. 75% of your grade is from exams- do the practice exams & learn how to use stat functions on the TI84 calculator. Go to class (graded participation). She is hard to understand bc of the language barrier. She curved the class at the end- my 88 was an A.
She confuses herself. Stats quickly just became an English class but all of the exams had spelling and grammar mistakes; not to mention the number of times she had to make corrections during exams.
this class was so much harder than it needed to be for an intro stats class. the prof isn't the best at explaining and sometimes confuses herself. there's just so much material covered that it's easy to get lost. the exams are also pretty hard and count for a lot. thankfully she curved final grades and gave us some group quizzes which helped.
Not a terrible professor, but definitely subpar. English is her second language, and it shows. Frequent grammar errors which makes certain questions confusing, her in-class examples are often not very good, and just the way lectures are articulated leaves something to be desired. Take someone else if you can.
She is English second language, which makes it hard to understand her slides and she often contradicts herself. The questions on the exams are difficult to decipher and figures are hard to understand. She ended up curving our entire course grade by 3 points because the averages were so bad.
Avoid her at all costs. Her lectures are mandatory, but she is terrible at explaining things, and her slideshows are a jumbled mess. Nothing is ever explained clearly. This is made even worse by English being her second language. I have attended every single lecture, and I've basically had to teach myself stats.
The class itself was hard, but I literally loved her. She gave out bonus points and dropped the lowest quiz and homework grades, which helps your overall grade and she curves them all at the end usually. She really helped me learned topics and concepts that I had been struggling with. You definitely need to go to class, but it's worth it.
she honestly made the class so much harder than it had to be, her slides were confusing and when she tried to explain them, it made it more confusing. 75% of your grade is based on tests... so get a good grade on ALL of them. didnt really learn anything, youtube was my best friend tbh, so good luck!
While she is very kind, her class is a mess. Her notes are very unorganized and often not helpful at all. She makes many mistakes on both the wording and the work of her practice problems, which further confuses things. Stats is a hard class but she makes it a whole lot harder. Wouldn't take her again. If you do, prepare to teach yourself stats.
Although shes hard to follow in class, she makes it easy for her students to make good grades. She always posts lecture videos, gives recitations, office hours, you name it. I am terrible at math, but this class i actually did okay in due to the resources she provided. There are lots of quizzes and hw, but as long as you try you should be okay.
Her thought process is hard to follow. I think she cares for her students but isn't a clear communicator. Her class is exam heavy. Homework is an easy way to improve score.
Constantly reviewed concepts and gave random extra credit so a good idea to go to class even if most people didn't. If you are fine spending extra time to review lectures then the class is no problem. Sometimes hard to follow but in my opinion made up for in by giving so many resources and opportunities to succeed.
I was scared to take stats here and math is usually not my strongest area, however stats 201 is really not that difficult. She overcomplicates some things but is genuinely friendly and rewards for participation in class. She offers a lot of resources and records her Week in Reviews. Exams are 75% of the grade so study for those.
It is quite difficult to understand lectures with Dr. Irma as there is usually constant errors or misinterpretations as it usually takes a while to get through problems during class. However, she does give provided resources to help. This course is very test heavy/quizzes, she drops 1-2 quizzes and homework. As long as you study, you'll pass.
She lectures thoroughly and answers questions throughout lectures. She also goes over the material from the last class at the start of each lecture so you get a good review of the information. What makes the class hard is that it is very dependent on you doing good on the exams which has nothing to do with the professor but with the department.
She is just a poor organizer of her class.
Honestly, in order to do in this class you have to WORK! Office hours were a must, but Irma did a pretty good job explaining things one on one. Don't fall behind and seek study groups because you'll need it. I'd take her class again, but thank God I'll never have to. I love her personality but the class itself is gross lol.
The class itself is difficult because a lot of the concepts are very similar, but she does a good job teaching. There are many resources outside of class available, and she is the best STATS professor in my opinion. Very test heavy but you can make your own formula sheets for each exam and there are many sample practice problems before each exam.
This professor was not helpful when compared to the other STAT sections as she did not teach using the material we needed but over her own desires. She did not lecture cohesively and did not know how to prepare us accurately for the quizzes. It is hard as this class is relatively easy except when she chooses to confuse things further.
The lectures were confusing and riddled with mistakes. I ended up teaching myself the material, but it is difficult to prepare for quizzes and exams that don't reflect the lectures and homework. There is a quiz and homework due almost every week, but you do all the work only for it to count for 20% of your grade. The 3 exams are 80% of your grade.
Attend class. 80% of your grade is based on tests and you will get behind very fast if you do not attend lectures. Stats is not a difficult class, but tests and quizzes are hard and lectures are confusing. She's very kind and does her best, lectures are just not engaging and you lose interest easily and get distracted. Easy to get lost.
You can tell Dr. Irma is a great, caring person, yet her lectures are disorganized, and she often gets sidetracked. The material isn't difficult, but she makes it much harder than needed. Attending the lectures felt like a chore instead of a necessity, as I could not attend class for two weeks straight and do fine on my own on the quizzes/exams.
disorganized. she changed the schedule of the quizzes (supposed to be biweekly) and made two back-to-back two weeks past the original time. i missed that week because I was sick, and I missed both quizzes because she didn't put the newly scheduled quizzes on the canvas calendar. she doesn't let you remake them either. i almost got a C because of it
i was also the bottom review. she dropped the lowest 2 quizzes and homeworks even though it wasn't on the syllabus. she is the goat. easy B. still disorganized but she honestly isn't that bad. the quizzes sucked, but the exams were straightforward. homeworks gave you unlimited times to complete. gave some extra credit in class. lectures were fine.
Beware of the weights of grades for this class as it's 80% exams. The exams are basically just the practice exams she gives. Statistics also gets a decent curve at the end. Her lectures are pretty subpar and they aren't mandatory, but if you struggle in Statistics, you should go as she gives 2 extra credit for exams if you answer something right.
This class is pretty straightforward. As long as you do the homework, understand it, and then practice it before each quiz, you'll be fine. It does help if you come to class, but it's not necessary. She provides practice exams before each exam, which are really similar to the actual exam, so make sure to take those.
I did not see the reason for the poor reviews after taking her course. The class is very test-heavy, but I believe all stats sections are. She is a very kind person and I thought her lectures were pretty good. She gives lots of extra credit for answering questions in class. Attendance isn't required but I recommend for the bonus.
This class is extremely test heavy! I found that the homework was nothing like the quizzes or the exams making studying very difficult. Lectures were also very disorganized and not clear leaving you with a lot of questions. The actual information of the course is super easy, but she does not teach it in a way that makes sense.
Easy B(77+) but hard A(89+). Quizzes are 6-7 questions so if you miss one or two you're cooked. Try to get 90+ on the midterms, unrealistic tho when the avg for the 1st was a C and the 2nd was a D (don't get your tests back after either). Stats shouldn't be this hard, save your GPA and take someone else or take your chances with a "not assigned" :(
80% of your grade is based on three exams. she is a kind person who is very smart, but lectures are hard to understand. she expects you to be entirely aware of everything she is mentioning while she is lecturing so most people are lost half the time. I've learned that the practice exams are the exams. Know them inside and out and you will do well.
Dr. Henandez is good. Many people dont show up to class, and have a hard time because her lectures are very indicating of the materials that will be tested and quizzes. Make sure to go to office hours and not get behind. she is very understanding and caring if she knows you care about the class and are trying your best! I really enjoyed this class!
The people in the comments don't get that this class has common exams. She teaches to the exam and it is not that hard if you do the homework and can understand the lecture slides.
80% exams no matter what proff. Practice common exams help. Lectures were very disorganized. Coming to class gave you bonus (SO GO). Quizzes were ok, 2 of 6 quizzes were dropped. Nobody tells you how you can bring cheat sheets to the exams--write EVERYTHING on there and you'll be fine. TAs were better explaining things than her in my opinion.
She is far better than other reviews make it seem. The class is exam heavy, but she does work with the final grades. Attainable B but a difficult A. There are recorded lockdown browser quizzes every-other week. Material is generally not difficult, but gets harder at the end. Sometimes her speech and grammar can be hard to understand, not terrible.
Dr. Hernandez was a great professor. She made learning statistics a lot easier than it seemed at first, and she was very thorough in lectures. Make sure to attend lecture as she offers extra credit through Canvas quizzes and class participation. Don't be scared to ask questions! I would recommend her for stats 100% !!
Dr. Magallanes is a kind professor, but her lectures are long (90 mins) and not engaging. STATS 201 is exam-heavy and heavily weighted. When taking the exams, the goal seems to be tripping you up on every question, instead of testing what you have actually learned. Go to SI, office hours, and study hard. Difficult A or B. She does curve slightly.
all sections of STAT-201 are exam based, but i would recommend taking another prof. there is a good reason her class has double digit q-drops each semester. many of her lecture slides had mistakes and were not noticed until students pointed it out on several occasions. very disorganized, claimed exams "aren't that hard", averages said otherwise...
She is great and sweet! I would compare her to an elementary teacher in the nicest way possible. She is good at explaining things very clearly. Her homework and exams are not bad at all. While she does record every lecture and doesn't require attendance, if you attend, there are many chances for bonus points on exams or for your grade.
She was a very kind and amazing teacher, but the subject itself is pretty difficult to start off with. Highly recommend studying for exams and truly understanding the topic because that is the only thing your grade is composed of.
Any stats 201 classes will be test heavy, however she is by far the worst professor I've ever had. She is disorganized and it is often clear in lecture she has no idea what she is talking about. Her lecture slides have been incorrect numerous times and she has changed the syllabus multiple times in the middle of this semester.
You will show up to class and review the same type of questions all week then the test is something COMPLETELY different. Generous grading distribution at the end saved me. Some curves. Dr. Hernandez is nice just wanted everyone to participate when no one knew what was going on. Idk if another prof would be better. Stats is a hard one.
I got a C on the first exam, but I attended all her office hours and got as much help as I could and got an A on the 2nd exam and final. You just have to put effort in, and she will help you as much as possible. She also gives extra credit throughout the class.
She is really not a bad teacher, it's just that the difficulty of her own lessons are not reflected on the actual exams AT ALL. Only way to do good on the real exams is studying the practice exams b/c they reuse the same trick questions & themes. She gives some extra credit so thats good. I would recommend her, but do not rely on her teaching ONLY
