She made history not so boring.
okay guys, do not i mean do not take her if your a student who wants to know more. she gives out assignments and is never on time with anything! this was the most uncaring teacher i have ever had. she tries to care but ends up not knowing anything!!! she most def. doesn't know how to teach. she cant even spell basic words!
I found her very helpful. Online quizzes are easy. Uses sames quiz questions on midterm and final! hard to fail this class.
little hard, but nice. go see her at her office and she will help you. she makes you read alot!
This class is plain and simple. As clear as black and white. Gives quizzes based on online quizzes. There is no way in hell you can fail.
Easy online class. Just do your work and you eill be fine. Lots of extra credit, as well as quizzes. The quizzes may be taken twice, therefore you have a better chance of A'S.
Warning!! To all students interested in taking this teacher. She takes a million years to grade all assignments. Your able to take a test twice, but what good is it if she doesn't grade them before the deadline. I have sent her a total of 22 emails and her responses are I'll get to the bottom of it, or the site has a glitch. Useless!!!
helpful and u actually learn this class is easy you just have to read and take the quizzes online they will help you ace the mids and finals
loved the class, loved her! the best, learned alot in the class. she's a great professor
Cut and dry class. If you do the work you won't fail. Lots of work however it does set you up for good grades on quizzes, etc. I actually appreciated the work because i felt so prepared when taking quizzes or writting papers. Highly recommend!
If you don't NEED this class then don't take it. She takes forever to grade assignments and to respond to emails. You can submit an assignment at the beginning of March and it won't be graded until late May.
Took this class online. She is not organzied at all. Responds to e-mails days later. Syllabus is way off. Easy class. Only 3 discussions which is great because I hate discussion posts.
great class a bit unorganized but easy enough to follow. required reading, 4 discussion posts, 3 essay papers, a midterm, and a final all spread out during the semmester. It's an easy class but patients is required.
she was the most boring teacher ive ever took, all she did was talk and talk and talk without really explaining the subject & sometimes the tests had nothing to do with what she taught. dont recomend her.
BORING!!! She cannot explain anything to save her life... But if you do the work she will go easy on you
very rude teacher. her notes & powerpoint do not cover anything on the exams nor do the readings. very unorganized and does not accept absences for any reason. i was hospitalized for 17 days and she refused to let me makeup work and called me irresponsible. hello! i was dying in the hospital! worst teacher ever, issue was reported to the dean.
boring.she can talk for days and nothing will make any sense. her notes are stupid and have nothing to do with the exams. ill never take her again if she was the last teacher on this planet
She is very unorganized, talk a bunch of nonsense, the class is boring, but for being an honors class, it isn't hard. Class consists of online journals, map quiz, midterm, final, and paper. Outside of history, she is pretty cool. As long as you read, you'll be fine.
The amount of time spent on this class is far beyond the norm. I will never take a class from her again! This was the most disorganized class I have ever taken. Where did they get her?
ugh this is the worst teacher ever. do not take her she makes no sense what so ever and none of her lectures relate to the tests. and she has this stupid system of turning in homework, she only grades half of it . i would never take a class with irma again. big MISTAKE
I don't know what everyone else is complaining about. I actually enjoyed this class. I hate history and she made it fun. Sometimes her lectures don't relate to her quizzes but if you do the reading you'll do great on the quiz. She's not hard at all but you do have to put in time for the reading. She's a cool professor and makes history relatable.
great :)
Irma is such an awesome teacher. She is very enthusiastic, goes in order, sticks to the point and is soo helpful, friendly, and great spirited. I highly recommend her!!
This class is perfect for slackers who don't like doing so much work. Shes easy, Goes over the material If you ask her.she doesnt mind. You write notes in class and do homework online. 10 Discussion boards for participation points. 4 exams with one Bonus question and 4 homework assignments. Its not difficult. exams are broken into 2 parts.MC/Essay
The material she provided us with was very interesting and I liked the class BUT she isn't always clear about what the homework is. Everyone always seemed to be confused about what was expected so be sure to ASK! She'll make it clear once you do. Her grading scale is didn't seem fair and make sure to do ALL the hw. Goodluck peeps
Class is based on 100 points so every point counts, she assigns weekly hw and expects you to be reading. The in-class discussion is the most helpful so don't be late or miss too much. Write tons of notes and take advantage of her office hrs, she loves visits and was always willing to help/answer questions.
This teacher was seriously the worst history teacher. I LOVE HISTORY, and she made me hate going to class. She wasn't organized, I was confused on what she expected, especially on due dates. I had to email her MULTIPLE TIMES in order to find out what she wanted. She input my final wrong by 30 pts. and I had to keep bugging to make sure it was done
Valdivia is not awful like everyone is saying. She has a different style of teaching. Her lectures and the way she interprets history were so interesting and thought provoking. She is a bit unorganized but if you have questions ASK. She doesn't mind. I had to stop by her office hrs a couple times. Be responsible. Do your homework!!! Great professor
idk why people are saying she's a bad teacher, she's good at what she does she makes you want to go to class because she's passionate about History. I agree she is a little unorganized but just ask and she'll help. People who did bad in this class didn't even try from what i saw. Pretty chill class overall glad i took it.
Read, do the study guides and attend her lectures! She is not a difficult teacher at all. If you like to slack off this class is not for you. A bit organized but she will answer any questions that you may have.
It was hard to keep up with Irma because she was very unorganized, but she knows the subject well. However, I wouldn’t recommend the class if you tend to be unorganized yourself. I missed class 5-6 times and luckily was not penalized, but the syllabus stated that attendance was important. She grades 5 articles, 5 PDAs, 3 test and a research paper.
EASY ONLINE COURSE. TAKE HER!
A lot of people say she is unorganized which I think is unfair, because she goes over all due dates for assignments and quizzes. Any changes made on the dates she goes over. There are a few small writing assignments but they are easy. Put in time to do your work and study and you will be fine. Great teacher, she makes history interesting.
This professor is bias and very unorganized. I did all my assignments and received full points a most of my assignments but she still gave me an unreasonable low overall grade. It was irritating because she assigned so much reading and had assignments due every week. Plus, for the amount of work and quality you give, she still grades low.
This professor was awesome! People say she isn't clear, but she often repeated information from previous lectures so I don't know how much clearer you can get. Great lectures. If you like History then this is a must! You'll see the other side of the U.S. Every point does matter though, and definitely not an easy A. I took the Honors section though
she isn't bad but isn't good either. she gives so many assignments and she is unorganized. however i failed most of her tests with maybe a high D and i just did all her assignments and i got a B in her class. so it is an easy class just very confusing.
The most unorganized professor I have had. If you do not read the book she assigns then you will most likely fail. She goes off topic A LOT and forgets what assignments were due or forgets the due date. I hate having to write a bad review, but I would not recommend.
Don't join this class it is the worst thing you'll ever do. Her online class is unorganized with unclear prompts for essay's. She assigned about 4 assignments a week that require a ton of time compared to a normal lecture. Did not learn a lot about history from what if's stories. I learned on my own rather than her teachings.
She gave me an add from a waitlist yet didn't allow me in but she suggested I take her accelerated class, I did but regret it. Way too much reading, grades tough and this online class gave me the questions I got wrong yet know I clicked on the correct answers , NOT HAPPY. She is very disorganized and changes tests/assignments last minutes
Valdivia is a great professor. She is way too easy though. I felt like I should have just taken her class online. She would assign readingand then go over the reading word for word the next day leaving me thinking why i invested my time reading when we would go over it again in class. If you like a fast pace class, BEWARE. topics get covered slowly
I took Professor Valdivia's online late start class and the class was quiet a challenge. There is a lot of reading to do. Not only reading two long chapters a week, there is also primary sources that are also pretty long and a book assignment a well. She is a tough grader and she is a little disorganized.
She is inspiring! I loved taking her class and recommenced it to everyone! She is a great teacher my favorite at Rio so far.
She is funny !
Do the work and you will pass. Literally her class consist of reading ans taking quizzes. Her exam and final is take home, so if you just read or take good notes this class is a breeze. She gives a ton of extra credit and really cares. It is an easy A class and I totally recommend her for History 144! I learned a lot! I would def take her again
She is so funny and knows her stuff! It is not a hard class! Very easy , just got to read your stuff online and you can take a quiz twice. Its a very easy and interesting class. Not hard at all.
This professor has a bipolar attitude. Class is not difficult, all the work is based on reading assignments and note taking. She is very indecisive and gets really bothered if no one participates. She tries excessively to interact with students making the learning environment awkwardly tensed. Would not recommend class to anyone.
one of the many overpaid professors who doesn't do a damn thing! Grades papers late! If you reach out to her you wont hear back in about 3-5 school days. she doesnt keep up with any of her classes. her discussions are boring and she really shouldnt be teaching in my opinion. I'm a history major and she is one of the worst professors ive had.
Oh my lord this online class had SO MUCH READING. I suggest taking only this class and nothing else because there were so many reading assignments. If you read the essays, excerpts, and stories thoroughly, you will pass. Whatever is in those will be on the quiz. I wouldn't take it again; too much stress.
Her class is online and well, she never interacted once with the class. You teach yourself off a course she probably makes a commission off. She never participates in your discussion. Over all i wouldnt recommend her at all.
I underestimated this professor. She was difficult but in the end she came through with extra credit. It was a difficult class but I didn't expect to get an easy A. Lots of reading, so analyze each piece carefully and you will pass the quizzes and discussion boards.
Professor Valdivia was so nice. I really liked her class, she made me want to learn more. Her tests are take home and you can earn some extra points if you go into her office hours and ask questions about the test. As long as you read and really listen in class you'll pass. (There's also a lot of reading.)
This class was really tough for me. Get ready to READ A LOT!! Homework was online on globalyceum & is $40 to get in. She is an amazing professor just that the homework is a lot and quizzes are really tough.
The professor is very nice, but the course is basically self-taught. You log on and read lectures and the post discussions and take quizzes. You also have an essay to complete that is not very hard, but the website you use globalyceum is buggy and can cause papers to go missing / be late. I liked the class, but I do well studying independently.
Professor Valdivia was an outstanding History 144 professor! I went to her hybrid 8 week course, passed with an A. She does group work but its just reading passages together and figuring out the few questions together which was fun. Each week there was a quiz and no final test just points accumulated from class work and quizzes. Best History Class!
One of my favorite professors, she is very caring and tries to help her students in and out of class. The class shouldn't be hard to pass as long as you get all your work done. I recommend taking her class!
Her class wasnt hard, I totally recommend her! She is such a sweet caring person :) She is very clear on what she wants from her assignments so you go home and can finish them perfectly!
Horrible. Lost my work-TWICE!!!! Recheck all your grades, even my grade was wrong. She's easy but is not very responsibile.
Im one of those students that really wasn't interested in HIST never have been , Taking her class changed that. Her way of teaching and breaking things down to be able to truly understand. I love her way of teaching .Lots of reading and work to be done, this isn't the easy way out type of course. if you want to truly learn , take her class .
The professor is a good teacher and the class is great to take. You will have to do a lot of reading. Stay on top of the due dates and you will do good.
She was straightforward and clear. She cares for her students. Im taking her online in the summer because she was easy. She may seem disorganized but if you put in the effort its nbd.
Professor Valdivia is a lot of fun and is super funny. I hated history before her class. Its not about dates and events but the reason behind the event. Super interesting but there is a lot of reading. The final and midterm are both take home. Homework is due every other Friday night.
I don't recommend her. Test and quizzes have nothing to do with lectures or book
She expects you to do your own research, yet the online is what she says. test have nothing to do with book or online
Her lectures are boring. I found the book and online to be more interesting and like many professors, nothing of what you learn in on the test
Doesn't explain thoroughly on topics and has questions on test that were never discussed, and they were not in the book either
just don't take her online ,take her on campus
She is not the professor to take if you want to pass a class. she is very boring and you do your own research
Many of these reviews are completely false. She definitely cares about her students and goes out of her way to make sure we're on top of things. If History isn't your thing then simply DO NOT TAKE IT. She is great overall and the sweetest!!! definitely recommend.
Do not take her online class.
She is GREAT !! NO TEXTBOOK needed. Passed with an A. Just be ready to read like any other course
It's online, its an easy A if you do the weekly readings, response posts and do good on the quizzes and can write a decent paper. Besides that, this professor just seems flat out lazy, the lectures are literally essays taken from other professors at different colleges. Oh and you cant use extra credit to get an A if have a B even though its offered
Not an easy A. You will need to keep up to date with the weekly quizzes and discussions. The quizzes are not very easy and will make you think for an answer. Make sure to read the reading beforehand. Her grading system is by points and you will need to purchase the teaching platform because she does not use Canvas.
Professor Valdivia, assigned multiple assignments every week with 3 quizzes as well. Never wrote a paper for her class, but has weekly discussion posts. If you misspell anything she will take off points. Used globalyceum for the whole course never used canvas, costs about $40. At the end she does raise your grade about 7%, offers extra credit.
She is such a sweet heart. Super nice and shes passionate about her work. She has no problem answering any questions. It is a lot of reading and a lot of small papers but shes an easy grader. Its a lot of group work.
Super sweet professor. Knows her stuff although she can get things mixed up. Show up to class (post-lecture participation post). Very light reading (free online material). Double check everything - she made many grading mistakes/test question errors, but she will always fix her grading mistakes. Weekly posts/10 question tests. 2 page papers - EASY!
Professor Valdivia is an amazing HISTORY professor. She is sweet and honestly cares for her students. There is a lot of reading but it is all super interesting. Reading reflections, quizzes and discussions post weekly. If you do the work you will pass with an A! She is willing to help you outside of class to help you succeed! Would take her again!
I absolutely love her. She is so sweet and she really cares about her students so much. She genuinely wants all her students to pass and will work with you to try to help you pass. There are weekly assignments and quizzes but they are not difficult, plus she provides a study guide. The topics and sources she talks about are always so interesting
Professor Valdivia is very much willing to meet with you to help you understand an assignment or a subject of the class. She is so knowledgeable and easy to understand. There is many primary source readings to do, some are old and its hard to read because language was so different in the 19th century. Great class, very informative.
She's by far the worst teacher as far as responding to emails, uses an outside website that has a bunch of bugs. I wasn't able to access a hw assignment due to bugs on the sight, I never got credit for it. She took 3 days to respond to each email I sent regarding the issues. All the hw assignments are based on other professors articles. Super lazy
I loved Prof.Valdivia. She is very passionate about what she teaches and gives great lectures and materials. She does give weekly reading articles (that she prints for you) but all her materials and readings are SO GOOD. Worth the read! I enjoyed her and her class 10/10 Would recommend and take any class she teaches!
Hist170 with Professor Valdivia was such a great experience! She truly cares about her students and is more than willing to lend a helping hand. I really enjoyed the readings and assignments that were assigned.
READINGS. Dear lord so many readings. But, it's worth it. Why? Because if you hate history and want the ACTUAL truth of American History, I recommend you take her Women's History class. The homework is high volume but if you communicate, she's very understanding. She gives lots of extra credit so honestly failing is solely on you.
Just plain rude. Self absorbed and wanted everyone to have the same opinion as her
No test, an assignment+quiz every week. Lots of readings but she is very picky. She judges every little thing on the assignment she gives including your opinion. Makes history harder than what is suppose to be. Take another history teacher.
Had such an amazing experience with professor Valdivia. We had a lot of readings but if you do the work its really not that hard to understand. Every other week you have writing assignments or quizzes. Professor does not post her notes/slides which is why attendance is mandatory. respectful, organized, & it's a fun class. 10/10 I would take again!
