This was an online class. I took him for Business Law. There are 3 proctored exams and 6 quizzes. He doesn't provide you with the material you're tested on. 80 questions exam and they are difficult! Almost the entire class failed the 1st exam and when he gave a makeup everyone failed it. He changed all the quizzes to proctorio during the last month
Straightforward online class. Nothing but quizzes and tests, which are all detailed in the powerpoints and video lectures. Study the powerpoints before you take a quiz/exam and you'll do fine. Only complaint is that the course is disorganized in canvas, kinda thrown in there. Any issues with canvas I had was *promptly* answered by him or a TA.
He is the MOST UNORGANIZED professor I have ever had. He tries so hard in his lectures to make them funny but lacks in actually teaching anything. His test reviews are AWFUL and he put questions that were not in the review. He needs to be reviewed and should not be a professor. I wouldnt recommend him at all, even if he offered to be my lawyer.
Overall good class, not extremely difficult but you do have to work for your grades. Quizzes are open note/book and you get 2 attempts. Most of our exams were curved, also gave multiple extra credit assignments (they are graded pretty tough though). Responds very quick to any concerns/emails.
Class is straightforward and fair. If you read and take notes on his PowerPoints and dont procrastinate learning the material on them youll be fine. Class was comprised of four quizzes and two exams. Professor Katz is a funny and knowledgeable instructor. Offers multiple EC opportunities.
If you're reading this now, you can't, you shan't, be having a good time. Overall this class was not difficult to pass. The book is not required if you watch his powerpoint presentations and take notes. Many of his TESTS are OPEN NOTES +++. My one complaint is the disorganization of Prof. Katz.
You'll have exam (proctored) consist 80 multiple choice and one essay questions. He has review session for it but he just go over his PowerPoint and that's it. Review doesn't help much for the exam. If you ask for the study material he will probably tell you to just go over his lectures which doesn't help much. Don't take him if you don't have to
DO NOT. TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I have had the worst semester with Professor Katz. He has posted exams and quizzes after the dates he put in the syllabus. He isn't reasonable, and his exams are extremely difficult and proctored. If you want an easy and enjoyable business law class I suggest not taking him.
This professor is a master arbiter as he does not even follow his own syllabus. His PowerPoints Are Also Written With Every New Word In Caps Like This - And Many Dashes - So It Makes It Extremely Obnoxious To Actually Decipher What Is A Term Being Defined And What Is An Actual Law. Don't take this professor.
Steer clear of Katz. If you have a question about something; good luck. I have never gotten an email response on anything the entire semester.
Katz was a great professor! His powerpoints were easy to read and understand, no need for the textbook. He tries to make jokes for the class to lighten the boringness of law. Within an hour or so of emailing him, he responds. Would definitely take again.
I took the class through study abroad, which turned it into a 6 week class. Katz is really nice and appreciates when we ask questions in class. I wish his PowerPoints prompted more interactive questions during class because it is a bit boring and I fell asleep almost every day. Still his quiz/exam questions are very relevant to the in class topics.
Not sure where the bad reviews are coming from, he is one of the best professors I have had. He makes very informative lectures videos on every chapter with PowerPoint slides. As long as you listen to the lectures and take notes you will ace this class. All test and quiz material come straight from the lectures. Recommend everyone to take him.
Took him for Law and Business and hes alright. His quizzes are very unorganized and the due dates for them always change. He posts lectures online that you may watch and advises to read the book as well, but I didnt use it. Offers a lot of extra credit and takes forever to answer emails. He also takes forever to grade anything.
Way too demanding of a course. Forced to watch the lectures and exams are 90 questions so it takes a good 2 hours. With a full course load and working full time, that course is a pain in the butt
Professor Katz cares about his students. You do need to take notes from his Powerpoints/lectures which can be used for the quizzes but not the exams. He offers extra credit points. So, watch the videos and answer the question, free points. He is also willing to spend hours on teams meetings with his students to answer any and all questions.
At first I was annoyed with some of his methods, but this class grew on me and I do think he is extremely fair and transparent of what is expected. A LOT of material to cover per test - if you actively listen and take notes with his lectures, you can't or shan't fail. Test questions are mostly tricky laid out questions. So be prepared. I liked him
Professor Katz is a great teacher! You can tell he is totally devoted to teaching. He gives plenty of extra credit quizzes. If you watch his videos you will succeed for sure.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND! What you need to know about Professor Katz. He is a very good teacher and he is certainly open to suggestions. You HAVE to watch lectures to succeed in this course. Along with the lectures are 3-4 extra credit questions per WEEK. The only other assignments you have are quizzes and exams. Quizzes are open book/notes. Exams are not.
Do not take any class with Professor Katz. There is barely any structure to the class with due dates changing all the time. He tries to treat the class like "law school", when we are all business students with zero interest in law. He does not try and make the course interesting at all, and has long and boring videos to watch.
Grade is based on only GEA assignments, exams, and quizzes but Professor Katz creates very interesting lectures while being entering and educational! Offers lots of extra credits best class taken at USF so far!
If there wasn't extra credit assignments I would be failing. This class is unnecessary. Tests are 80 custom questions on written response. As a marketing major I had no interest in this course. Lectures are 30mins-1.5hr long, truly ridiculous. He is boring and fails at being funny. DO NOT RECOMMEND. If you take this make sure you're in a group me
Would not recommend. Lectures are videos long and boring, There is a lot of extra credit opportunities. Exams are 80 multiple choice questions and closed book, closed note, and proctored. Quizzes are open note but proctored with camera. Treats this like a law class and is strict. Does not reply to emails at all, and is rude in teams meetings.
BABY BAR prep?? wait what??this should be an entry BUS class. just horrible. this class is so extra for no reason! super unorganized, a lot of material. get ready to study every darn day. 80 questions per exam. all proctored and weighted very heavy. AVOID AT ALL COST! dont tell him you take another class other than his. he will get mad! ridiculous
the mean in this class has been a 70 so far.150+ students...The extra credit is not enough to fix anyone's grade. so much work every week. horrible planning. DO ALL THE EC each week or better, just don't take this prof.
Not sure how the class average is so low. This class is as straight-forward as it gets. Quizzes are open note, exams are not. Excessive extra credit opportunities. Lectures are long but if you watch the videos and take notes, there is no excuse to not do well. I found it difficult to get my overall grade LOWER than a 100 all semester.
One of the most straightforward classes I've taken. As long as you dedicate the time to watch the lectures each week, quizzes + exams will be a breeze, and an A+ is guaranteed. Extra credit is very generous- plenty of opportunities throughout the semester. Professor Katz's lectures are engaging, and he makes a relatively dry subject interesting.
While the course itself is boring Katz does a decent job trying to make it fun with his dry humor. If you make time to watch the videos even at 1.5 speed it's not that bad of a class. Every video has an extra credit question and if answered on time nets you .75 points. You don't even have to do them all just watch some here and there.Class is okay
Prof Katz offers tons of extra credit to help you succeed- just be sure to really dedicate time to watch lecture videos, which can get boring sometimes. Watch the test review sessions where Prof beaks down every single option and explains incorrect alternatives. He also welcomes us warmly to every video, giving tips while teaching professionally.
Video lectures can be lengthy but thats all you need to succeed. He lays everything out perfectly in the videos and gives really great examples. Your grade will reflect the effort put in. Lots of extra credit opportunity. Take this professor!
I took this class online in the fall and I had a great experience. He made all of his lecture videos and they were very easy to follow along with. Lots of extra credit to help improve your grade. Didn't even use the textbook if there was one because the lectures cover everything. quizzes and exams were pretty easy. Written assignments were average
BUL 3321 with Katz is a lot more information compared to BUL 3320. Professor Katz wants everyone to do well in this course. Take the time to meet with him because he will help you out. This class was challenging, but if you watch his power points and take great notes, you will do great in this class. Also lots of extra credit opportunities!
He has 3-5 pt 50+ min. lecture videos for us to watch. No book. The downside is he uploads the lectures and assignments weekly over the course of the week so we can't work on our own pace. You also can't skip them because you need to answer questions to earn credit for the assignment. Other assignments are 8 Perusalls, 2 GEAs, and 3 exams.
Worst professor at USF. He doesn't upload any of his assignments on time even though he's a stickler for following the syllabus. He uploads multiple hour videos to watch and submit day of. If you other classes or work, do not take this course because you probably won't even be able to do the assignments at least until Wednesday or Thursday
Him, and his TA Imane Jabrane, were so inconsistent with what was due when. TA kept saying it's all in the syllabus but then was different from canvas. There were so many inconsistencies in the course. Video lectures were never posted consistently and would all be due in the next few days, less than a week to watch 3+videos 1hour+ long.
This class is run terribly and the professor/TA are horrible, Communication is AWFUL. They post the assignments whenever they feel like it rather than all at once on Monday with all the due dates Saturday. Lots of homework worth very few points, up to 4 hours a week of mandatory lecture videos. They made the 250 word essay honorlocked DONT TAKE HIM
I strongly advise you not to take BUL3320 with this professor. Lots of hw, 3-4 hours a week of mandatory lecture videos with quizzes inside of them, only /3 points so one wrong answer and you're screwed. TA is really bad and has no clue what's going on. 3 80 q's exams with honorlock no open notes. Two honorlocked GEA essay's, communication horrible
Assignments/ exams aren't hard there's just a lot of material -- except his TA this semester is not good and consistently mixes up due dates/ makes errors. However, I thought it was extremely inconsiderate to put out an announcement saying he would not be lenient/ extending due dates even though we've all been affected by 2 hurricanes in 2 weeks.
Too much material packed into little timelines. Not accommodating to students during desperate times of hurricane needs. Will be reported. Still setting due dates and expecting completion while half of us have no power/water for days. Absolutely unacceptable, & TA is borderline absent during semester. Do not take class
Avoid getting near him at all costs. Worst professor/teacher I've had across all my years. Unorganized, assigns between 3 to even 8 assignments weekly each needing an hour or two to get done. His FIRST exam was 2 and half hours long, and yes many of us needed the full time. He is rude, disrespectful, never answers emails, I pray he suffers like us.
I had to see if anyone was having similar issues. I studied for this Exam and did the practice tests provided for it that totaled to 119 questions believing it would correlate with the Exam for there to be max 8 similar questions on the 80Q Exam. I also listened to his hour long lecture videos. Exam & Writing assignment via HL, horrible process.
Irwin Katz is the absolute worst professor at USF. On the third day, he set up a teams meeting with me where 15 minutes in, he told me I should rethink my decision to go to law school. He holds very little respect for his students. His class is demanding and I advise every person to stay as far away from him as possible. He needs to be evaluated.
I am unsure where all of the one-star reviews are coming from. I took Professor Katz for both BUL3320 and BUL3321. He has been incredibly supportive and understanding throughout. He wants everyone to succeed, and despite the courses being lecture-heavy and time-consuming, they are entirely worth it. Put the work in and make sure to ask questions!
Genuinely one of the most disrespectful professors I've ever taken. He had no respect for our time as students. He would take forever to grade, make assignments due the day after posting them, and would wait until the last minute to post lectures. There were many times where students were affected by him being an absolutely terrible person.
He is a very tough grader and it is true that he can often be very rude when you have your first meeting with him. His lectures are a lot every week and he is a pretty tough grader. I would recommend taking him if you genuinely want to learn the material but if your just looking to get the credit there are better teachers for that
There were one or two lecture videos a week that were very long with three questions at some point during the video. Exams are all multiple choice, but have about 80 ?'s and honorlock. There are two honorlock essays; you do research before and are allowed to have an outline. Not easy, but doable. TA answered most ?'s. Not much interaction with prof
For the online course, he records the lectures as video quizzes that you have to watch all the way through, no skipping ahead, and you only get one attempt. There were about 3 hours worth of video lectures a week, plus other assignments, and 2 essays. Twice the due dates for exams changed without much notice. Wouldn't take again.
He uses AI to create his hour long lectures, but blames a "production team" in his videos for weird slides. All the Homeeworks are honorlock. The +1 hour long weekly quizzes are beyond annoying & riddled with typos that made the questions unsolvable. Does not email back but constantly says to "email him." I wish I picked ANY OTHER PROFESSOR. BEWARE
Very rude, condescending, and gives very little care to his students. He doesn't even update his lectures or quizzes, which are hard because of the spelling and grammar errors. Honestly, this guy makes myself and other students question if we will be prepared for law school because he does not follow the text book or check his work.
P.Katz is good .Him and his TA are responsive to emails and available during office hours. I usually email his TA late at night and always get an answer. You can't be taking 5 classes and working full-time that is for sure. Exams are fair and based on what's taught in class, no surprises. If you put in the effort, you'll do well. Highly recommend.
Took his class during my study abroad in Florence, Italy. He is a phenomenal person and professor, taking the time to know each student personally. The class is manageable as long as you attend class and listen; everything is explained clearly. Highly recommend, especially for business students studying abroad.
The class is easy and he makes it difficult for no reason. Its basic class not like im in the medical feild. To much reading for short work and exams are to long and no notes allowed. I think the class is good but the professor doesn't know how to make the students just to finish this class. Acting as if the class is gonna make a difference.
He accuses everyone of cheating and is a test heavy class he is making everyone who was not accused of cheating come in and do a in person makeup even though this is a online course. He does not care for the students success.
Found some people cheating on the exam, decided to make EVERYONE retake the exam in person with 3 day notice to reorganize schedule. Does NOT care that some people didn't cheat and everyone has to retake. This class has incredibly easy material but is somehow made difficult by this professor. There are a lot of other professors so take them.
Run... don't take him
This guy is inconsiderate of students time and will deliberately make exams challenging to lower average grades
This guy is inconsiderate of students times and would deliberately make exams challenging to lower average grades.
DO NOT TAKE THIS. Has 0 respect for students. Making the class retake an entire test in person because some got caught cheating. Online class btw.
This professor has caused absolute chaos in my life.
Spare yourself headaches and take this class with another professor. Makes it unnecessarily hard because no one watches his lecture videos and his exams are easy. Will accuse you of cheating with no proof and uses fear tactics against you. Will say one thing first, then say another thing, and then change it again, super low inconsistency.
Professor Katz changed his mind after saying only those caught cheating would retake the exam. Now everyone must take an in-person test for an online class. This is unfair, confusing, and poorly handled. His communication and organization are very weak.
Accused the entire class of cheating. Then proceeded to say if you didn't get caught you're fine. After that he went back on his word saying we have a test over the weekend. You cannot just go back on your word and backstab all your students after already falsely accusing majority of the class.
The accused the entire class of cheating and then forced EVERYONE to take the exam again, which is not fair to the students who did not cheat. Overall not a good professor
He accused me and the rest of the class of cheating on an exam and is forcing us to take an in person test for an online course.
TERRIBLE if I could give a zero, I would. Making the whole class retake the exam on a weekend for an online class with less than a week's notice, except for those who cheated (makes no sense), classmates mentioned his lectures are legit AI, so not sure why he cares so much about possible cheating. Oh, and good luck getting a response to an email.
Accused everyone of cheating with no evidence. Made everyone retake the test unfairly after saying he wouldn't.
This professor absolutely ruined my course experience. He accused certain students in the class of cheating, stated the others were OK, and went back on his word and made the entire class come in for in-person, weekend tests. Save the stress, DO NOT take this professor.
This professor has absolutely no regard for students' time or effort. He's inconsistent, disrespectful, and communicates poorly. The entire class was forced to retest in person with only one week's notice, even students who weren't accused of anything were treated as if they cheated. zero concern for students' work schedules or other obligations.
Does not stick to what is told to the students. Changes his plans after telling students a completely different thing.
The material was easy, but the professor's response to cheating in was unfair and unprofessional. Instead of addressing those involved, he punished everyone with an in-person retake for an online class. Constant contradictions, late grading, and poor communication made this course exhausting. Not professional at all and out of touch considerations.
Do NOT take this professor. He does not care about his students in any way. Says one thing and then completely changes his mind the next. save the stress, find a new professor
His word means nothing. Fully lied to us after saying our original exam score was gonna stay and is now trying to make us take an in person exam for a fully online course just because he has a suspicion of cheating on no grounds.
Never before have i taken a strictly online course and been forced to come to campus. Due to the HonorLock software used there is an assumption that cheating is minimized. If a professor can't tell which students are cheating with video footage of their faces and screens, that's a sign of incompetency. What a waste of every students time.
He gave an online open-note exam then accused several people of cheating (the irony haha). Honorlock didn't flag me, he did on his own bc my score was high and I completely it quick. Now Irwin's making everyone retake it in person, even though it's an online class. Watching the 1-star reviews roll in is satisfying. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!
This dude is consistently going back on his syllabus. Syllabus says one thing, he says the opposite. Do not take him.
Last semester for degree, worst teacher ever. Accused entire class of cheating despite honorlock requirment, is subjecting entire class to mistreatment. Entire class grade is primarily based off 2 exam grades now. Going to advisors on how to navigate. He also doesnt respond to emails, and deffers to teavher aid everytime.
Completely unprofessional, and the worst professor i've ever had the displeasure of enduring for a semester. He accused the entire class of cheating on an OPEN NOTE, honorlock proctored exam for an online class. When it could not be proven he decided to lash out at the students by completely amending the syllabus 2/3rds into the course.
Do not take this professor. He is extremely unprofessional, accusing the entire class of cheating on the first exam, threatening to make everyone come in for an in person retake despite being a fully online class, and changing the exam format in the syllabus late in the semester to make it more difficult for the students. All class materials are AI
Save yourself
I would not recommend taking this class with Professor Katz. This class has been nothing but stressful. Too much inconsistency and unprofessionalism. Doesn't follow his syllabus, and decided to change his syllabus mid semester. Accused the class of cheating on an open note proctored exam. Publishes material/powerpoints late at night. Avoid!
Just an overall headache of a semester I would strongly recommend taking another professor, He accused everyone of cheating on a open notes exam with no clear strong evidence as well as changed the syllabus during the semester to reflect this. His lecture videos are all AI generated slides as well which is ironic.
In my senior year, this is the worst professor and course I've had. All the material is AI generated, only grades on exams, is unreachable via email. The material hardly relates to the exams - which are 80 questions, 60% of our grade, and now amended to be closed note after he accused his class of cheating when we scored well on open note.
All the material is AI generated, only grades on exams, is unreachable via email and totally unprofessional. The exams are 80 questions, 60% of our grade, and you're only given 75 minutes to take it. He changed them to be closed note after he accused his entire class of cheating when we scored well on open note.
Not very good at teaching only uses PowerPoints, changes syllabus midway through course, and doesn't reply to emails.
Class was easy—mostly article annotations and peer replies—but he made us use Honorlock for discussion posts and accused the whole class of cheating for not watching his long AI lectures. He audited our exams, tried to make us retake tests on the weekend, and the whole class went to the dean about him.
Poor communication, last-minute policy changes, and unsubstantiated cheating accusations made this class extremely difficult. Content are all AI-generated and didn't match the exams, and the professor was often unresponsive. Please save yourselves and take another professor.
Changed the syllabus mid-semester when students did well on open note exam. No more notes allowed on exams for the rest of the semester. Assignments are no help, not building to exam content at all. Exams are long and, as I said, were changed in policy to closed-note mid-semester. Not worth the stress if you can avoid it.
Like others have mentioned, the class is only graded on three exams and one weekly assignment. The weekly assignment has nothing to do with the content that will be on the exam and is pointless. The exams are long, based on 8-15 long chapters at a time. Lecture content is horrible and AI slop. Syllabus says open note, but he changed mid-semester.
this is my first time writing a review but this prof is so awful i had too. not only did he accuse the entire class of cheating on the 1st exam, but for the final exam he insinuated I cheated because i finished the exam pretty quickly, and also insinuated i might have gotten trouble with the law before?? very unprofessional, take another professor
