if you wanna hear him relate economics to chess, take his stupid course

i really enjoyed attending his class....he really seems to enjoy teaching :)

nice prof but bad notes. hard to catch up with what he is saying sometimes.. cuz u go wondering off in another world..
Bad explanations. don't ever take his class!! often make mistakes while teaching. very very bad professor!!
DOn't like him
oh so easy, dont buy textbooks as everything he puts on the board is on his tests, no studying needed outside of class
seems never prepare his notes and always mess the class with bad explanation. maybe good on academic, not certainly not for teaching!
I can't deny that he is a smart person but he is not a good, nice, responsible professor!! I don't like him very much....too aweful to attend his class...Oh, my godness!!
He has total disprespect for others. Has no idea about teaching. He can make others believe that teaching is not a noble profession. Steer away from him if you can!
This is the worst prof I've taken a class with in UofM. He is the only prof that will not give you any form of feedback before the VW date. He's just totally unfair with his grading. Lipnowski if you happen to read this pls change your way.
Nice guy, but all over the place in terms of teaching style. Explanations are a bit hard to follow. Don't buy the textbook, everything he says in class (even stuff he says won't be on the test) is on the test. Fair about grading and general attitude though.
Everyone complains about him being a super hard marker and having a bad teaching style. I got 98% in his micro class and just finished with an A in Public Finance this year. If you study what he says in class, and understand how to relate different course material, you will be fine.

Brutal. Absolutely brutal. Disorganized and his teaching style is best described as "all over the place". His lectures have little to no connection with the required textbook he claims to loosely follow and he is pretty much an all around joke. If you a good student and hope to keep the A's rolling, do yourself a favour and skip this awful prof.
He is the worst prof I have ever had. He is completely useless in lecturing and he marks so hard, that any little thing that is wrong you will lose half your marks. It is unbeliveable and I would suggest not only not taking him, but the univeristy actually firing him. COMPLETELY USELESS.
the worst, he is so lazy and unorganized, his explaination sucks, what you get is unclear messy notes. Moreover, he is a tough marker, you will get a so low score in test. Also, tests are really hard~~~~~~~~~AVIOD OR YOU WILL GET A BAD MARK
he knows nothing. so bad, so bad, so bad, avoid him be4 late.
He has strong preference toward certain group of students, but not race wise. For example, the same question in quiz, especially the definition explanations, missing even a single word for those he doesn't like, he would take all points away while for those he like, an ambiguous answer will give them full marks.
not bad teacher, horrible notes and exams are really unfair. wants you to read his mind to answer questions,
Took him for macro 1 and 2. only buy the textbook if u need refrence but if u go to class everyday and listen to what he says and relate it on the exam you will do awesome. Took this prof and ended up with A's in both classes. even though he is somewhat messy..if u write what he writes and memorize it for the exam you will do awesome!!
I took Micro 1 and 2 with him 5 years ago and thought he was great. He is a bit old school, which in retrospect is good. If you go to class every day and take good notes, you will do well. I remember in classes before tests he'd run through anything we asked, pretty much answering all the questions on the test for us.
Really - he's not a difficult prof. He covers only certain topics from his textbook - and he goes into great detail - and he'll go over and over and over the same concepts! Show up to class, take notes (because whatever he covers in class WILL be on the test), and ask questions - he's always more than glad to answer questions!
MUST MUST attend all lectures, if you are planning to write mid terms with borrowed notes, u r going to regret it. and memorize everything from lecture then you are guaranteed A
I'll admit, his notes are a little all over the place, but at least he makes an effort do teach. Most teachers just do power point presentations, talk about a snooze fest. The tests are based on what is said in class, the text just elaborates a little bit more if something may be unclear. Helpful in office. You will fail if you don't attend class
I'm not at all sure why anyone gave him bad reviews. Attending class is a must, but beyond that, his course is not at all too hard, and he's very helpful. His tests were not at all surprises and were marked fairly.
if you can better not take course with him, you will know it not fun at all, but I like his test arrangement, 4 tests no final, that is cool part for you when you prepare other course final.
i see him as a nice proff and helpful in confusing concepts
Lectures are SUPER confusing, his note is all over the place. He could cover materials from 3 different chapters but not letting you know, makes it extremely difficult to study for exam. This is just my thought about this course. Thank you.
Nice guy. 5 tests no final worth to take the course. But his notes are not clear. Must attend the class, don't think you could manage by reading text at home, you WILL FAIL IF YOU DO. Pay attention to his last min lecture, he will rush them through and those are on the test, FOR SURE!!! Trust me!!
If you drop notes, go to EVERY classes, you will get above B very easy. Yes, his is notes is everywhere, but you will get marks on the test very easy, even you are wrong sometimes, you still get marks, if you have 75% right in a question, he will give you full marks.
Notes is the key, just drop the notes and you will get A.
Irwin is a super nice guy but his notes are something crazy. He over explains everything which isn't horrible.Notes at the end of lectures are the most important.Awesome set up, 5 small tests and no final!Only about 5pages of notes for each test, easy A:)He also likes to tell stories which have little relation to the material but are humourus
Great prof, just do not miss class. very few surprises on tests. generous marker
His notes are a bit messy and he side tracks about irrelevant topics but as long as you take notes you'll be fine. Consist of 4-5 tests which are fair and no final exam. Must attend class and drop notes! cool dude
I believe he has improved alot since last term, or I just accustom the way he teaches. Anyway, as other have said, dont skip class and take notes. Everything on the exams/tests is in his notes. It turns out better than I expected. Good luck.
Gets lost real easy in the class, if it wasn't that his exams where not cumulative a lot of students would fail this class. If you are going to this class make sure u attend every single class.
Most confusing class ever.Had to drop the class before it ended. Gets lost easily in the top sometimes acts like he doesn't know what hes teaching. Very helpful if you approach him personally glad exams where not cumulative.
Wasn't very good at explaining the concepts. Did not provide any practice questions for writing his exams and tests. Tends to get of topic a lot. Not very in outside of class. Whats good about him is that he can be a little generous when it comes to marking and that you can do well in class if you are able to memorize each graph he draws in class
Wow mixed comments about this guy, just make sure u attend all his classes and you listen very well because if you don't then you might as well just give yourself the F you want. His notes are messy and you need a large attention span to keep up with him. easily drifts away
he was a great teacher..... i want him to teach more courses.
The most confusing class I've ever had!! run away when ever you see him! if you have no choice.. notes are your main way to survive and don't skip classes skippers have no life with this prof.
He is a good prof but he doesn't give slides. Attendance is mandatory. make sure you understand all the graphs, terms and examples given in class. take nothing for granted.if you know someone who's done his class ask for past questions.
Worst prof I've had. No notes given, very unclear. No assignments. Final worth 60%. Does not tell you what to expect. Does not TEACH what is on the exam. He was teaching concepts from the test AFTER we had written it. STAY AWAY. Makes what should be an easy A impossible. Especially since an A is 85 in his course.
this is the worst prof I have ever seen. He never told us what he will put in all the test. No assignments no notes, and the practice online is useless. Besides, the book is crazy expensive. STAY AWAY, ATTENTION!!!!!
Lipnowski is a likeable guy but repeats himself a lot! This can be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it. The classes were on the boring side of things, but I appreciated his bad jokes. To get a decent mark, you MUST read the textbook and do the practice problems on MyEconLab.
Great guy! I wouldn't take it with him if you plan on taking more mirco, but for those who need it for their major, take it with him for sure! No final and he drops your lowest midterm.
Boring. No notes. Confusing. He will go on and on about something and confuse you ... I learnt more by reading textbook and using websites. Final is worth way too much. If you don't buy the textbook good luck lol no practice tests either
He makes tons of jokes during class that are not funny. But do not skip these lectures cause you'll be lost. Forewarned though he has no notes so you have to do a lot of your own work
Never take it with this prof. he has got to be the worst prof ever. no notes and he uses the same graph all class and by the end you have no idea what is going on anymore. You have to teach yourself.
You don't need to go to class for this course, because he doesn't teach much (despite being a nice person) and you end up having to read the textbook anyway. He gets very side tracked with tangents and anecdotes and is very quite. I did well and only went to half of the lectures. If you ask him to help you 1 on 1 though, he is there.
Going to class is useless with this prof. You basically teach yourself because he gets side tracked so easily and is painful to listen to when he is on topic. You can't follow anything he says and all we had were 2 midterms worth marks so if you did bad on those you were screwed. Also- he can't work a computer to save his life. It's 2014, come on.
Great prof. However, if you miss classes so then never even think about taking a class from him. But If you come to classes regularly so you'll get a good grade.
I took his class and I loved it, come to class and excel with an A. This prof is wonderful, would definetely take his class again.
I know i put the tag "skip class you won't pass" but honestly even if you do go to class and read the textbook you could still get a D. This prof is so unclear, confusing and encourages you to buy the textbook even though it is borderline useless. He made almost the whole class feel utterly hopeless and useless. My advice-TAKE THE ONLINE CLASS!!!
Very unclear and side tracked. Urged the class to attend a different section and "Read the textbook because he wasn't sure". I honestly have no idea why he's a prof. He admitted that the average was very low compared to other sections and grades got lower than the probability had you guessed every question. Stay away. Positive note - he's nice.
He should not teach any further for the sake of students.
honestly, this man is the worst professor I've come across in my entire life, no notes, gives us tests that can't in any way be matched to his teaching standards, he never gives us feedback after the tests, does not even request to revise questions with us, only comes to class following day to say that majority of us failed. makes us read so many chapters he wasn't able to cover, in a very short period of time, the myecon lab does not help in his case. He is very discouraging.
Prof doesn't get to the main points. Beats around the bush quite a lot. Recommend reading the textbook rather than going for lectures
That's an awful experience taking his class. I suggest everyone not to take it !
While he seems like a nice enough guy, his teaching skills are very poor. No logical order or structure of any kind to lectures, explains background ideas too little. Tests often feature (useless) questions right from lectures, so if you come to class, decipher what he says and memorize the steps you can do well on tests. No final exam though!
His lectures were a bit all over the place but if you can follow along through the jokes and stories you'll do great. If you have a Calculus background than it's an easy A+.
I wish the exams would be matching to what he taught in class..
To be honest I am regret to take this course with him, his teaching skill is poor, he refuse to explain any questions during test. Sometimes he even doesn't know what he is talking about, his notes on the whiteboard is so chaos. Do not take course with him if you're 100% sure you can study the material yourself.
Basically, if you don't show up for classes, you'll have a tough time taking the tests. If you do show up howerver, a great memory and understanding of what he's saying in class would take you a long way. Sorry if you don't understand, the textbook is practically useless. He doesn't take questions during tests, which is sometimes unhelpful.
don't take any course with this man. If you miss the lectures you're going to fail. The text book is useless. The best way to pass his course is to take note of everything he writes down.
Overall a good prof, his tests are extremely fair and based completely off lectures, so if you're someone that skips class a lot I do not recommend taking this class with him. He is really nice and goes over things multiple times during lectures. However, he often teaches something important when there is only a minute left of class.
No notes, you miss class you are screwed.
One of the most unorganized profs i've had so far. Whiteboard is always a mess so its hard to follow. His graphs are always super messy so its hard to know what he's doing. He's makes a bunch of mistakes and often needs to be corrected by students. His evaluation is composed of 4 term tests but he only counts 3 of them
He is an amazing prof His tests are based completely off lectures, so don't skip class. He goes over things multiple times during lectures
Messy notes, messy graphs. Always repeat what he said and unorganised. Test grade is the only grading scale....
His lectures are all over the place it is difficult to follow; uses one messy graph for multiple explinations which he will take a quick break from to draw another tiny graph to help him understand what he is explaining on the main graph which he forgets. Waste of time to go to his office; all youll get is life advice
TEST IS EASY AND BASED ON LECTURE. MAKE SURE U TO GO TO ALL CLASSES. U WILL PASS. EASY TO UNDERSTAND
I've never witnessed a more arrogant and self-indulgent professor than this one. Fortunately, the tests are easy as long as you memorize all the graphs he draws in class. I got an A+ and I still don't know what the class was about.
Hes a really great prof. Go to class wanting to pay attention and learn and youll be able to get an easy A. No final exam which is a bonus.
Exams are a copy of his lectures. Go to class and pay attention, it's an easy A+. He goes over things multiple times during lectures
Lectures are rambling incoherent nonsense. Taking his class as an option after taking 3010, 3020, and 3040. Still cant understand a thing hes trying to say. By trying to dumb down problems for people with limited math background he makes the content exponentially harder than it actually is. Reading the textbook is no help as it uses the full math.
Dont take any course with this prof. He did not upload any slides, did not provide any sample tests and the exam even weird. If you missed the class and you only study on textbook, you will get lost on the exam
knowledgeable and tells you whats gunna be on the test. his marking is fair. teaches from the text book but only select chapters. If you don't show up to class you'll be lost.
He didn't upload any slides. The way he teaches is slow and boring. He used a textbook that was written by him, even if you memorize all the stuff in that chapter, the exam still makes you feel like you know nothing. He is the worst prof I have ever met. If you want to get a good grade, don't take him If you want to get knowledge, don't take him
I think he is a good mand but He teaches topic as if we know everything. Every exam is long anwer question based on lecture that you need to draw graph and explain it. So If you don't perfect it, you will get somewhat close to F. More than a third of class dropped. Pretty surr there is other class do the Mcq for exam.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Lectures are an hour and a half of him just rambling on in a monotone voice, tests are long answer questions that are confusing, and asking for a better explanation for confusing topics goes nowhere since he simply repeats his unhelpful explanation.
Favourite!!!
Although I got a good grade from this class, this is genuinely the worst class I decided to enroll in. We were tasked with 4 assignments and 1 test on the final day of class. He does not mark any assignment and you do not receive feedback. Avoid this professor if you have the chance to because he couldn't even provide a booklet for the final test.
