She's new in this sem, so maybe not as professional as the other profs do. But she's very nice in helping students. I am taking her now, and I think she cares about us very much for how understanding on the stuff. She's great. Midterm is fair, the stuff is not hard. Just take it for no regret. 383 offers nxt sem. And by the way, I think she's hot!

Very nice and helpful teacher. Wants everyone to do well. Tests are fair, but assignments and quizzes somewhat drop your mark because they are graded quite hard (Try to get her as TA, she marks easier) Overall, course is quite easy. No textbook required.
Her english accent isn't a big problem. It's her unorganized notes that's confusing. Doesn't do any highlighting to show which concept she's writing is important, all notes are the same, like in an essay. Her game trees are confusing. Could draw a more understandable version drawn from Econ302. MTs are tricky. But she is helpful in person.
she was still teaching new materials on the LAST DAY OF CLASS. should have cut out some material so there is time for review on material she was unclear on before!!
She really cares about her students and how much they learned. She is nice and considerate, but honestly you need some efford for this course. Friendly advise, go to lecture and try to understand the materials the she coverd. No textbook reading required at all
Good prof. Trickie exam that can only be overcome by you attending classs and going over material over and over. To understand the concepts you must go over notes. Once you do, the exams arn't that bad, but you MUST GO OVER HER CLASS NOTES!! No text required. Has that Russian/Central European (shes from ukraine) hottness to her and good accent.
A very nice prof, she doesn't want you to drop her class, so if you do bad on the MT, she can weight more towards your final. Exam questions are from in-class lecture, always gives clues for the exam, so you must attend all her lectures!!
her notes are clear and concise, lots of info. exams r pretty tricky tho...but she's a good prof.
She really cares about her students and encourages you to do well. Approachable.
I don't like her. She makes things complicated. And sometimes she is talking nonsense. Hard exams.
omg, the only reason i go to class is to see what she is wearing that day. the only reason i pay attention is b/c she is dam hot!!! really nice prof, she will photocopy you some lecture notes if you are away
Well uh I didn't find her hot... She looks like a 40 years old with the body of a 20ish. The assignments are all right, but the exam's pretty hard, only eight people got above 80 I believe. However, she curves, so the grading is at the least a little better than Doug Allen's (From what I hear). She will help if you approach her though.
Not hot and has about the same 3 outfits. Treats her students like they're stupid and doesn't answer your questions with straight answers when you approach her. Exams very hard.
for all those ppl who think she sucks at teacher, I think she is GOOD. this class IS HARD. so the only reason why she teaches like we're stupid is because we WERE STUPID in the course. the MARKS even reflected our stupidity. and honestly, I LOVED HER NOTES. they were the MOST helpful. her exams were hard but thats because the COURSE ITSELF is hard
Course was much too dense to be a 100-level course. Judging from previous comments, she's only been teaching 300-level courses in the past which hints at why her exams were so difficult. Assignments were way too easy in comparison to her actual midterm & final. She gives no useful hints for upcoming exams. My worst experience at SFU thus far.
unfortunately i kind of hate her already :( she only has like 3 outfits and giggles/mumbles which makes her accent even worse. can't understand a thing she says. complicates simple concepts and has terrible notes. and really don't find her hot at all
she is a bad prof its simple
She's an okay prof. She has a slight European accent, but is comprehensible. Her midterm was hard but her final exam was not too difficult. In fact,i think it was easier than her midterm exam.Assignments of course are easier compared to her exams. She's been teaching upper level courses, so her style of teaching is the same for lower division.
She is pretty nice and she can solve all your questions clearly when you ask her. But her final is SOOOO hard! The assignments are pretty easy but when it comes to exams you have no idea what are you writing about. Her Notes are very useful than the silly textbook. She is a good teacher after all.
Generally nice, but likes to imply that the class is stupid when nobody answers in lecture (just shout out answers to keep things going). Can spend a whole class explaining high school math (ie. how to find a slope), which is frustrating. Notes are clear and fantastic. Exams are straightforward. Accent is quite thick, but totally understandable.
Hot bod lol
The textbook is easy to read but you really need to do the practice questions and go to tutorials/office hours to get a good grasp on how to do the questions on assignments and midterms. It seems like a deceptively easy course but the average for the 1st MT was 50%. Her notes are excellent and she really tries to teach well
She has the mannerisms of an adolescent girl which is adorable. As for teaching, albeit the accent, she gets her points across making it understandable for people who pre-read the materials. Her exams, specifically the multiple choice questions, are tough. The class is scaled heavily where 50-60 represented a B- to B+ on the midterm.
Great Prof. Clear with her notes and she's willing to clarify anything during her office hours. She's definitely better than any other profs for teaching 103.
She is the best teacher ever! She is very helpful! Her notes are super clear! I love her very much! Take this course with her!!
Lecture is boring but good to attend as her notes highlight important concepts. She may seem very nice, but only towards her more favored students. For the m/t, her ans. key had 1 question wrong, but she refused to make any changes because, and I quote, "It's scaled anyways." All-in-all, Dudnyk is a "okay" prof., but I'd never take her class again.
took her class in summertime.. She's an ok teacher, explains things quite clearly and gives very good notes.. her TA, Greg was AMAZING!!
Although her accent was strong, i kinda liked her. Her notes were clear and she was smart. She was willing to help out students who were lost.
nice professor, very very organized.clear notes.let you know what to expect in the exam. she makes sure everyone is doing their best. willing to help students. exams are fair. overall great prof.
I had her for 103, did ok. And, choose her again for 290. The content itself is ok, she explains well, but you need to read the text book. Exams are a bit hard than I expect. But she's nice though.
her notes are way too simplified because she assumes we don't understand it and then on test....no part marks for you and even if you wrote something she gave out as notes, marked wrong...
She is very good at teaching the material. One of the best profs I have had at SFU. She is also very approachable and helpful to her students. You can tell she actually cares about her students understanding the material. Her exams are also very fair.
She's really passionate about teaching, always smiling in class, and very engaging. She gives out really structured notes, so attendance is important! Most of the midterm MCs and some of the written questions are mainly based on her notes. Midterms were fair and multiple choice was easier. Her written questions are always harder, final = HARD!
She's helpful when you wanna ask her some questions after lectures. And the notes she gave us are amazingly clear, maybe too clear for people. She tried her best to involve no math and calculus in the lectures. So in a word, good prof, kind person with shiny hairs...
Excellent Prof, helpful, clear, good explainer, ticks all the boxes. The TAs were awful so sometimes a mark or two were cut off in the exams. The exams were fair, maybe a bit hard. Take good notes and read them, those are all you need. The textbook was awful.
notes were good, but reading the textbook is highly recommended. exams are hard.
Excellent prof, don't bother with the textbook. Her notes are easy to understand and great, but you have to really understand them and not just skim them while reviewing to do well on the exams. Really receptive to students and feedback, love her!
If you want to hear what shes saying during lecture, sit in the first couple of rows. Midterms are fair, final is semi-hard. MT2 difficulty depends on your class average from the 1st MT. Very approachable, good prof and good class!
Morning classes are good, afternoon classes are end of the world.
OK, she is not hot, but does have a pretty smile. MT1, MT2 and final are the same level of difficulty. Her notes are extremely unclear. It doesn't make sense at all, just go straight to the textbook. It'll clear up everything. her notes are not even in the textbook either. 3 outfits
all the notes are handwritten
Approachable. She keeps well-organized notes (the recommended book is helpful if you get lost in the lectures). She lets you know what's on the exam. MTs are fair, final is harder.
She is very approachable. If u get lost, just go to her office hours and ask questions! She will be glad to have you and discuss questions with you. Plus, her typed notes were very clear and organized.
Her notes are very organized. Midterms are fair and final is a little harder as expected
Heard the final and MT is super tough, before u take this course I highly recommend u think about ur GPA .Its easy to get fail.
nice teacher ,but the exam was too hard and holy chicky
Class is hard and attending lectures and reading textbook are a must, but she is very nice, friendly and approachable. She also always has a smile on her face very cute :)
go take it if u wanna get a F! She always says: "I don't know, I'm not sure..." is hard to get what she mean and the exams are so hard! TAs are helpless, didn't explain the tutorial questions clearly...the combination of prof + TAs = Fail!
Really nice and helpful. Always gave a ton of practice midterms and finals to study from. Midterms were too easy; basically a competition for a high a mark since it's curved with the average being a C - C+. Final was brutal.. Maybe to make up for, I don't know
Shes one of the worst professor to try to come to an understanding with. I mean you can have a great answer to a question, like literally back it up with info and she will not give you the mark. Save yourself the trouble, and simply find a different professor for 103. She makes things a lot harder than it really is. And her TAs are useless.
Awesome prof. Her notes are amazing and really you don't have to bother reading the textbook although it would help. She's really nice always smiling and really pretty. Course is killer though...
She smiles a lot and before she moves on to something she always asks if its "crystal clear". All and all she really knows her stuff. The tests...its a disaster. The past exams she gives us gives opposite answers to the exam I did. For the written part, the TA's who mark it don't know English and cant help. Either you get 0/6 on a written Q or 6/6.
She's a professional prifessor.Even you havn't a book,she will write down all the detail in class.And she's nice.
Dudnyk was an excellent professor! I didn't have any problems with her accent; I guess if your not very good at english then you might find her accent tricky. The textbook was was useless, you only need it for the tutorial questions; why? because her lectures teaches you everything you need for the exams. Tutorials are helpful but not a must.
Just make no sense
thoroughly enjoyed this class! everything was explained very clearly and although i wish TAs were more knowledgeable, i was still able to get a lot out of being in this class. the professor has a wonderful attitude towards teaching and tries to help you as much as possible. there are few readings and the difficulty level of the exams is reasonable.
She was a great prof. Her accent didnt bother me at all and all her lecture notes explained everything very well. The textbook was useless, only for tut Q. answers are given in tut, its not a must to go unless you plan to study off the tut Q for midterms. both midterms and final were fair, not that hard if you actually put some time into studying.
Haven't had a good experience with her. Seems to have a bad attitude towards students, Teaches at too slow of a pace, and she is also very unorganized. She also sent out practice midterms for us to study on, which was nice, but sent out an incomplete answer key, so for some questions I wasn't sure if I was doing them right..
No use of technology. No powerpoint slides and doesnt use webct. Guess the school is cutting on costs and importing teachers from the 1990s. The textbook was useless, only necessary for tutorial questions (tutorial wasnt worth any marks). She was good at explaining, but had a bad attitude with students and was quite rude 1on1.
textbook not needed, only needed to look at notes given in lecture. midterm and final was okay as long as you understood most of the lectures, but written questions are tricky cause of the way she words them. class is curved anyways so it wasnt that bad
Please take her class easy and only final around 20%
She is very good, and her notes are great for studying, don't need to use the textbook at all. Exams require lots of preparation but she gives you everything you need. Notes are handwritten though so to have the best notes, attend lectures.
Your mark is based on 2 midterms worth 25% each, and a final exam worth 50%. Brutal exams. Not an easy course. TA is rude and discourages questions. Going to tutorial is not beneficial for this reason.
This professor makes econ 103 hard. I took Econ 105 last semester and got a great mark. However, econ 103 was a different story. Her exams are hard. She doesn't give notes, you have to attend class and take your own note. But you can't barely understand what she is saying. Always uses examples. I would not take econ with this prof!
Iryna is a really helpful prof, though Econ 103 is a challenging 100 level course, but she's always willing to answer questions and give out hints to make you think. Exams are killers, but it's manageable; she literally covers every example so do the readings and pay attention to the concepts! I would recommend this prof for any other econ course
Good lecturer, but gives really basic examples in her notes. When it comes to her exams, it's a whole different level. You literally have to study off her answer keys. Textbook is useless, don't waste time and money buying/reading it.
Iryna was not good at clarifying difficult concepts in the course. The class average for midterm 1 was 47%. midterm 2 53% and the final was the hardest. She does not prepare you for the midterms and final at all. Like the previous poster wrote, you have to study the past midterms and finals she gives you in order to do well. Don't recommend.
She's a very good lecturer. Always willing to help and sends out practise exams for midterms and finals. However, this course requires a ton of thinking..to do well, you must have a great understanding of the material. Practise previous exams, know your concepts inside out instead of memorizing and you'll do absolutely fine..!
Retaking it. Enough said.
She teaches only basic concept and simple example in lecture. And, giving out the past exam. after reading the notes and try the past exam, you would think you know everything. However, the exam will be more difficult level. You will feel like a dumb during exam. Hard exam. Don't read the book. Just do the past exam. You will pass
Terrible professor. Iryna does not use Canvas, she refuses to email you final exam marks and asks you to come in to the one hour of one day in May to view it. SFU, please teach your staff to use technology when we pay $500 for this course. Also, all her notes are handwritten, she is unclear in explaining concepts and often goes "are we ok?".."NO."
Attending her class is mandatory because she writes out her notes on the overhead. Personally I quite like her method because it prevents me from falling asleep. Her midterms/final are fair! (Similar to her past exams) This obviously isn't an easy course, a lot of effort is needed to do well. I'm a student with a 3.3 cGPA and I ended up with a B+.
Such a great and helpful professor. Definitely a great prof. Also, she is pretty hot.
She's a great prof, she's clear and shes fair. This is a hard course you need to attend lecture and prepare for midterm and exams. If you do those two things you will do well in this course... trust me i took it twice and she is the better profs in Econ department
tricky midterms but final was easy.
Really an easy 302 prof?her notes are very helpful for exams. Choose her if u want an A?But still need efforts?
Decent prof with amazing notes. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. It is a complete waste of money. Everything you need will be on the notes she gives.
She's a decent Professor. She's definitely tough with the questions she asks on her exams. Her questions are much tougher then what she goes over in class. You really have to apply the knowledge to get a good mark. It's a tough class regardless. No need to buy a book for her class. Midterms were hard. Final was fairer. The curve saves you tho.
She's clear if you listen and take notes of what she says (not just what she writes down) available for help after classoffice hours but not at other times. 1st Midterm was alright, 2nd was harder and final was fair (sets difficulty based on class results). Do the practice exams she sends out and go to herTA for help. Friendly and quite funny
If you read in her class, there is no need to go to lectures or tutorials tbh.
Awesome prof, great lectures, her notes are very detailed and clear, even more detailed than the textbook actually. Textbook is not mandatory, it helps a bit tho. Kinda fair ish hard exams, first midterm class average was 46%, second midterm 54%, the curve really saves you. Past exams were helpful. 9/10 would take again
To be honest, Iryna is a fair and good professor. Her class only seems hard because the textbook "economic principles seven ideas for thinking" by Allen W. Douglas is super stupid, useless and bad. Her lectures help bring the concepts alive from the textbook. She teaches well, and just needs a better textbook selection next time.
Very clear in her lectures, writes down all of her notes by hand, which is very useful in following along.
Honestly, Iryna isn't a bad professor. Horrible textbook, but I'd still recommend you to buy BOTH required/recommended b/c 1) better than nothing and 2) there are more practice questions in 2nd one. When reading, skip useless textbook examples and MAKE SURE you get main concepts. She provides past exams with missing answer keys. Exams were fair.
Iryna is awesome. Her lectures are clear and easy to follow, but Douglas Allens book is absolutely useless. The recommended book is so much better. Only 2 midterms and a final, and they are very similar to previous exams so practice all the past exams and you should be fine.
Very clear with what she expects but the textbook is useless and most of the practice exams are given without any answer keys. No homework to get any criteria on how you're grasping concepts.
This is your warning, do not take Econ 103 unless it is a degree requirement (if it is, you might want to rethink your degree). The course is BRUTAL. I was so surprised when I passed (praise be the curve).
classes are curved so the average of our class was 46%. exams are tough but if you study you shuold be fine
There were only 2 midterms of 25% each and a final of 50%.... She was suuuuuper lazy and terrible. Only gave us notes without any clear explanations. Tests were extremely hard with all long and difficult written questions ONLY (no MC).... Overall, lectures look like Grade 1(coz she only read those notes) while exams look like 4th year university.
She has an accent but by no means is she difficult to understand. She cracks jokes here and there and is pretty funny. Explains concepts well and the content isn't too hard to pick up if you are listening intently and actually TRY to learn. Assigns questions from the newest version of the textbook, but the older versions are just fine for reading.
Iryna was pretty clear to understand despite her Russian accent. She made evening lectures a bit more enjoyable with her high energy and light jokes. Her lectures were understandable but the content is extremely difficult to grasp so studying concepts in your own time is a must! The bad part was that your mark relies on 2 midterms and 1 final exam!

her accent makes it impossible to understand she never comes prepared for her lectures and makes examples up on the spot her instruction are never clear
It's a class where if you don't understand the concept then you wouldn't pass the course. Overall practice ALOT of past exam questions to be prepared, her lectures are okay. The curve will save you!
Iryna wants to overload information into you, as fast as possible. I asked her two questions the whole semester during lectures and she acted like I was wasting her time, so I never bothered to ask again. She was just regurgitating textbook (badly written one) material onto the projector. The dreadful lectures made me feel super tired and bored.
It's true that Iryna and ECON103 is not easy. But I would recommend Iryna. She gives lecture notes in lecture only. But, you'll find that her notes are very good to study off of. She goes over relevant and specific questions in lecture. So don't miss a lecture. Also, she gives previous midterms which are great to study off of.
I feel people can confuse not liking the course with not liking the teacher. Economics can be hard for some people, and then they tend to blame the teacher for that. Iryna explains the content in a clear way, giving tons of examples. If you attend lectures, do the homework, and study a little, you will do fine... her tests and her grading are fair!
She is a good teacher. I think she teaches things very clearly. Something I am not very clear when I am reading the book, I can get the clear answer from her lecture. I like her class.
I had her for ECON 8500 at BCIT - it was a condensed class, 2 days a week for 8 wks. The subject is hard, but Iryna is a great instructor, her lectures are great and so easy to study off of. Very fair grader, she'll give you partial marks for trying. Go to every lecture, study the notes and do the assignments - you'll do fine! I'd take her again.
I feel like shes a hit or miss. People either really like her or hate her. I personally couldnt learn anything from her, I could grasp the concepts she was trying to explain. I failed in her class. Retook it with a different prof and got a 85% so Im blaming the teacher lol.
