His class for engineering math II was one of the best (if not the best) classes i've ever had. This prof really knows what hes teaching and has a way of explaining it in a really easy to understand way. His lectures were also (typically) extremely entertaining.
Professor Elishakoff is very good. He really enjoys teaching and he wants his students to succeed. He is also pretty funny.
His exams are unethical and most of the projects and assignments barely relate to the class.
I absolutely hated him. He teaches from his own Russian book and has nothing to do with our book. The only good things I can say about him is that he actually wants people to learn. He does not go over anything he assigns for hw. I personally couldn't stand going to his class. He plays a lot of favoratism.
He was the best lecturer i ever had. His projects and tests are insanely difficult thou; u need to redo them 2 to 3 times be4 u get it rite. Make sure you take Machine design 1 with a bunch of easy classes so you dont get overwhelmed, and make sure u ask him how he wants his projects exactly so u dont have to redo them.
The teaching consisted in playing DVDs from previously recorded lectures. Course only covered half of the material promised. A shame for education and didactic practice. But then again, this professor thinks of himself as a great genius that should deserve the nobel prize.
He is an outstanding professor. I feel very priveleged to have taken the course under his instruction. Having taking him for statics, I felt it paid off in more advanced courses. If your looking to become an engineer, I would very much recommend him.
Great Professor! Exams are fair, and can be retaken if you do poorly the first time. He will make you earn the A by assigning homework and projects that are not from the book! Best advice is to form a group to do homework with, and also read the book! Hibbeler rocks!
Simple examples are provided in order to understand complex notions. The uncertainty is considered under differents aspects that are rarely explained in classical uncertainty classes.
AWESOME PROFESSOR.. You have to read and understand the theory he explains in order to apply it in problems.. He is an awesome professor.. Would definitively take him again in any other class! YOU WILL LEARN WITH HIM!
I completely hated this guy in the beginning and most of the middle. He assigns homework every class, gives long tests without enough time, and assigns ridiculous projects that are very time consuming. That, and he is a no-nonsense guy. You will get yelled at for breathing too loud. But in the end, I feel like I have mastered statics. Great prof.
Tests are not too hard but he doesnt give you enough time to complete them. He also makes you memorize 40 Topics which you have to rewrite exactlly. The projects, especially #Two take too many hours to complete doing mindless calculations. Overall If could pick again, go with the other Statics Teachers over this guy and save you from the headache.
Teaching methods are extremely clear and simple. Some students complain about the amount of work he gives, but don't listen to them. Very easy to learn from this instructor if you're organized. Great professor.
One of the best, he really want you to learn, he is old school: he let you redo your HW or test until you get it right. His first and oly priority is for you to learn, Best in his class professor.
Great Teacher! He does give you a lot of work, but this is needed in order to learn the materials correctly! If taken statics with another teacher, you will regret it in the future when taking strengths and not knowing the Material! He is willing to help and is a very nice teacher! Highly highly recommend him!
This is one of the smartest Professor I ever had, You will learn a lot in his class, his tests are kind of easy but you will not have enough time to complete them, he gives 3 crazy projects that are time consuming, he is really hard on the students in the beginning, but relaxed at the end. overall he is a good prof. do not take him if you are lazy
I learned the material in this course but no better than my friends who took the course with other professors. The work is excessive, especially the projects, and much of it provides little educational value. The grading scale is difficult, in fact I have yet to meet anyone who has received a full A in his class. Take another professor.
Impossible to get an A. Way to much homework is assigned for 5% of you grade. Projects are extremely time consuming. Tests are graded to impossible standards, especially the theoretical test. Not willing to help students. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
He is all about being organize but he isn't himself. You have to do 3 projects 35% of your grade, very time consuming. There will be also 3 tests, 60% of your grade, 1 written that you have to memorized 45 topics and 2 problem solving and lastly homework every class, 5% of your grade. I really wish I took someone else.
Horrible professor absolutely impossible to get an A, assigned ridiculous amount of homework that is only worth 5% of grade. crazy time consuming projects, harsh grader. do not, i repeat DO NOT take this professor
He assigned a test and two projects to be due in one day. When the majority of the class asked for an extension of a 110 part project that was assigned for a week span, he was unwilling to listen. When I went to his office hours for help, he told me to drop ALL my other classes and quit my job in order to focus on his class. AVOID HIM AT ALL COST!!
Very strict professor. Grades extremly harsh. Projects are way over the top. He takes off a ton of points for format. You will NOT pass the theory test on your first try. If its not word for word its basically an F. He's more forgiving on the retake. Professor teaches through equations and can't explain concepts in a simple manner. NO GUMS!
I had Dr. Elishakoff for Statics and took away a great deal of knowledge from the class. He is not an easy teacher but will give students a second try on tests. I would advise taking Dr. Elishakoff
Final grade very fair: 3 take home projects (35%), homework (5%), 2 practical and 1 theory exam (20% each). Theory test is based on lectures - you must take detailed notes. Offers test re-takes, but they're harder, so don't count on them to save you. You will work and appreciate it later - every problem in Strength of Materials requires Statics.
He goes very fast. You'll spend the whole class copying notes off the board. Must memorize all notes word for word. In my opinion, it was a completely unreasonable amount of work that I had put into that class. Aside from the difficulty level, he's often just plain rude. If you can take the class with any other professor I would...
He's rude. Students must copy down and MEMORIZE a book worth of notes. Not helpful in class or office hours. Project assignments are ridiculously long and tedious. One good side is you are permitted to retake one of your exams at the end of the class. Awful professor overall. Avoid if possible!
Gives theoretical test on 45 topics about the class. Test consists of 5 random topics that you have to re-write word for word. He claims that it's not about memorization but will heavily penalize you if you don't re-write it word for word. Gives 3 time consuming projects that are much longer than they need to be. Also he's very rude.
If you don't show up and don't study you won't pass. Overall, it's a pretty awesome class for many reason. The tests are EXACTLY like the homework! It can't get easier. Also, there's no final! If you study and work you will pass. Also, the professor is a very helpful guy. If you go to him for anything he will do everything to make sure you're okay
Tough, but very interesting course. The professor has a greater understanding for the material and only wants every student to succeed.
He seems tough. However, if you show up and study abit you will pass it with a B. I strongly recommend the live class! If you are not an organized person don't take it online.
Great Professor, bit tough, but it is 'necessary toughness' to make you think. Classes are super fun, you must ask question, he likes students participation. Homework require your full attention and assigns homework every week, might kill your week-ends. Tests are to check your capability. Your math basic will improve. Highly recommended.
Good professor
The professor knows his stuff. He will explain the material but further reading is required. No book used. Everything comes from his head. Only one theoretical and practical exam and one individual project. If you go to class and show interest in the material you do fine. Team work is recommended. He wants you to think! Don't be lazy. STUDY!
He likes to see you make efforts. Turn in every homework and project on time and you'll be good.
He is an old school type of guy (that's why I like him), you can't be messing around in his class. He seems like a tough professor and he will give you a lot of work, but if you show interest and he can see that you are trying you will get an A or B. He wants everyone to succeed you just have to show some effort. "Mr. Blanco" recommends him ;-)
I've had him for 2 different classes. He gives 2 exams, one of wich is a theoretical test. He will also give u 1 project and homeworks for every week. His homeworks and projects are design to make you think. Pay attention, ask question and study. He is a fair grader and wants you to succeed. I recomend him.
You can see a big smile on his face. He knows, what exactly he teach. Ready to answer all your questions in the class and in his office. Very knowledgeable. Homework and project are extremely important never mess up with them. You feel, that you will fail till last minute, but get A. Has a great personality. He pushes you to upper level.
He taught Moment of Inertia and Centroid for my statics class and no one know those topics. He only teaches theory and derivations, not how to use what he taught. He is a very tough grader. We had only one assignment during his portion, which was 25% of our grade, and the average was 40%. His one little assignment took even the best students down.
Very good professor with good sense of humor. I took Vibrations over the Summer, and things were fast paced. The course is different from the regular follow-the-book class. Most information is given in notes and the lectures. Grading was divided in 3 test 25% each and one project 25%. I got an A btw.
Knows everything about vibrations, but you do need to study and ask if you need help. Learn the Maple program before taking this class, as you will need to know it to do the projects!
Take all lecture notes. Half the class is theoretical and the other half is practical; do all of the homework always if you expect to pass and of the tests. The end of the semester project was hands down the most engaging and useful part of the class, but be forewarned, it will take learning how to use MAPLE and he is very helpful when you need it.
Do not take this class with this professor unless you want to 1. decode what he is saying during 2 hour long lectures, 2. want so much busy work that you do not want to sleep during the semester, and 3. are a fabulous test taker.
Good professor and great person. You have to study for the class if you want to do well - it's not an easy A. Many people complain that his class is too hard because of the theoretical test, but it's not that bad if you actually study in advance like he tells you to. He genuinely cares about his students. Take him if you want to learn.
my recomendation? Do no take this guy, only class i ever dropped and because of this professor.
I took "Mech. Vibrations" with Dr E. This is my fourth class with him, and let me tell u so far he hasn't disappointed me! Yes, he makes u work hard, one really learn the core underlying principles of vibration in this class; he also forces u to learn new software (Maple) for this class. IMO, if u want to be a real engineer, take vibration with him
A bit old fashioned, forces to learn certain historical derivations - 'as it is'. However he expects us to understand the intention; The key behind is, if one wants to learn a topic, it would help if one understands it's evolution. In-depth understanding is the benefit. Warning:if intention not understood, it can become mechanical memorising course
Took for Vibations Vibrations: Amazing Lectures. I learned a tremendous amount of information, and feel significantly stronger in engineering and mathematics. You learn A LOT in this class and must spend time. I would not recommend this course if you won't take it seriously. But I would if you are serious about learning engineering.
Took him for Design Against Uncertainty. Amazing lectures and useful assignments that instilled the material. I finished the class very comfortable with the material, while picking up useful maths along the way. The course follows his book which is very useful. Highly recommend consulting with him regularly about work/project. You will learn a lot
Great indeed!
Learned infinitely much! Wants you to succeed. Excellent.
Prof. Elishakoff doesn't have the traditional lecture way of teaching that some might find frustrating, he truly imparts an understanding of the subjects he teaches, not a step by step cookbook of engineering problems and methods. Students who approach the material the way he suggest we ultimately have a deep and meaningful knowledge of the subject
Course contents seemed to me very cumbersome to manage while other ongoing courses require some slots. He is conscious of his responsibilities to make the lectures meaningful and enjoyable for students. You will learn something from his course that would favor you in the long run regardless what background you belong.
This professor is terrible for online students. He has been extremely rude to me over the phone and through emails. He does not respond quickly to emails, and often has made it difficult for me by ignoring my questions from the email. Blamed me for not knowing the lectures were available online, but never informed me they existed.
He is a genius! Real scientist... and a great person!
This professor really cares about his students. It is a very hard course and it's easy to get discouraged however if you stick with the class and show that you're trying, he will do everything in his power to help you.
Professor was very tough in the beginning. Very eccentric and particular in his ways. However after the first month and I went to talk with him outside of class, I came to realize that he genuinely cares but will make you put in the work. Must put forth effort and go to class. Very funny guy.
Through 162 credit hours, he is the least capable professor I've had. Spent the majority of the semester reviewing vectors, then rushed through the core material of the class. Put a strength of materials question on one of our exams and didn't budge until the department head got involved. Avoid at all costs. Take Yong for statics instead.
Statics This guy goes out of his way to be respectful to students when they show him respect but his syllabus does not include the date and time for the tests in the class. In order to pass you have to do exactly what he says and turn in the three communication projects on time. He is stubborn as a mule for student's procedure and learning.
Granted there was a hurricane last semester, still displayed poor time management. Lectures didn't match up w/ hw, hw didn't help prepare for his trickery on exams, and TA and prof clearly didn't communicate well. Rushed thru the important information in class. Stubborn as a mule. He's a brilliant man, but horrible instructor. Tread carefully
As a graduate student taking Statics to jump into Mech. this course was ideal, preparatory, & you learn statics. I took simult. w/ dynamics (far more difficult IMO). He gave alot of extra credit & 1 exam retake, nice. This is freshman course so expect most complaints are freshmen that don't understand how the real world works and lives depend on us
I agree with a previous comment. He really is brilliant and so so smart, but just not so good at explaining the material. There is a lot in depth information, however, its hard to follow. Book is your best friend at this point. Homework is an absolute must.
He's a caring guy, but you need to show him that you're a hard worker. You can tell that he loves to teach engineering. However, most of the course is dominated by theory and formulas with not enough example problems. Class had its ups and downs, but was good overall. I'm now becoming a tutor for statics, so I guess I can say that I learned a lot.
In statics class, he takes a long time going through basic stuff, such as vector addition and dot product. I believe he cares about the students. He may seem somewhat strict and harsh sometimes but is open to answer questions. Beware of the three projects, they take a LOT of time. Attendance is taken regularly.
Engineering Statics with Dr. Elishakoff was a challenging class. Statics was covered thoroughly, and strong knowledge and ability to apply knowledge of the material was required to obtain A grades on projects and tests. The TA was rarely on the same page as Dr. Elishakoff, so I would have appreciated better organization. Good, Hard.
Professor Elishakoff is a good professor, he explains the subject well, he solves a lot of examples in class. He gives extra credits. The course work is heavier than most of the other courses. There are exams, homework, and project. His exams are sometimes tricky. Attending classes and taking notes is a must otherwise, you might get a low grade.
This professor is funny, intelligent, and gives good opportunities for struggling students to succeed. I liked that we actually needed the book throughout the semester as opposed to classes where I only used it once or twice. I also like his policy of no electronic media during lectures. Your questions have to be "good" or he won't want to answer.
Professor Elishakoff is really kind. He really wants to help me with all the materials he has. Im an online student, but he didnt treat me differently. He even suggested me to go to the lecture before I have another class. Theres many homework and practice problems to do. However, it helps students to prepare his test. Project is not easy.
Awesome Respectful Inspirational Knowledgeable Gentleman Great prof!
Difficult professor but not unfair. Exactly what was taught in class was what was on the exam. Homework was about average and the final vibrations project was relatively difficult but graded fairly.
Nice man, but terrible teacher. Hand written lecture with the worst hand written in history. Thick accent, and he mumbles. Topics generally skimmed over with no relation to the actual homework. way too much busy work taking attention away from studying.
Took Elishakoff for statics, I'm honestly not sure how I passed let alone got an A. He curved the whole class's grade at the end because no one met the passing requirements for his tenure. Very thick accent, teaches from pre written notes which are crap. Will embarrass students if he thinks he's in the right or if they aren't taking notes. Careful.
Hard teacher, they say if you can pass Elishakoff you can make it through engineering. If you have perfect attendence, he'll bump your grade a half letter grade up which was helpful, and if you fail while having perfect attendence, instead of whatever not passing grade you got he'll give you a C- so your gpa doesn't tank.
There were two projects in the semester - both ended up being around 70 pages long and took two weeks to complete. He refuses to answer questions he doesn't feel like are good, or that he thought conceptually was clear in the lecture. Big overall grade curve at the end, no one thought they would pass. Thick Russian accent.
Honestly, I could go off on a hundred reasons why Elishakoff wasn't great, ultimately our whole class did poorly in statics and he gave us 2 massive projects, each 50+ pages which took forever. Harsh grader, the tests are incredibly easy if you can manage to follow his god awful lectures and notes. Take any other professor if possible.
Taking Statics with Dr. Elishakoff is akin to taking Quantum Physics with Einstein. The grading of assignments and tests were slightly stiff. You will have a good grasp of Statics upon completion of this course. If you're looking for an easy A, look elsewhere.
If you do his homeworks and pay some attention in class you'll do well. He is a very smart and caring guy. Just do his projects, and study from the homeworks. He wants all his students to succeed, and that's important.
Dr. Elishakoff was no joke. This is a new course, so no tutor or TA was available. He wouldn't answer questions clearly sometimes. Expected us to talk to each and figure it out. 3 exams and 3 long projects. Final was an optional retake of 1 of 3 exams. Tough grader. Will probably make the course more difficult in the future. Good luck.
Run as fast as you can!
I feel the reviews for this Prof should be a bit more positive. It is clear this professor puts in a great deal of effort for this students and cares. He tries to make jokes and will often tie in related history to the subject. Wicked smart, no final. Put your effort into the projects he gives and you'll do just fine.
Worst professor ive taken in my life. Didnt gain other than head aches and stress. His lectures were difficult to understand. Horrible, do not take him
He isn't the best or the worst professor. My advice is to do really good on the projects and ace all your HW assignments so the exams won't be a burden. His lectures contain a lot of stories that ties in to real world applications. He gave extra credits throughout the semester and even changed the grading scale so getting a C is easier. He is okay.
Honestly pretty awful. Projects not updated in years, extremely poor communicator, and terrible with technology-and he made the whole class online. We're completely done with the class and we're sitting here still trying to figure out what our grades are. He makes you pay for the mcgraw hill textbook for ISM, but teaches his own theory. Good Luck.
Honestly, he is one of the worst professors I have ever taken he is really bad with technology and our class was online not only because the exams were not run fairly since the people who could stay got extra time, and on the other exams he showed up late. This class is gonna stress you out if you can take it with a different professor.
WARNING!!! Do not take this person if you want to pass any class with him!!! Awful, impossible tests! He never listens to you so beware of this guy
Elisakoff is charismatic when teaching course material, but by no means does this translate to effective instruction. His lecture notes are outdated, he went over 0 examples during lecture, and he has difficulty hearing and understanding students asking questions in class. Most of what I learned about statics was from our TA or online tutorials.
DO NOT!!! Take Dr. E; The most knowledgeable and charismatic dude but he knowingly screws over his class just so he can provide extra credit and two retakes for the Final Exams. Note that his retakes are twice as hard.
All needed information for the course is given through lecture notes that he creates, which most of the time consists of random formulas and differential equations that are not labeled or easy to follow. All lecture notes and homework's are allowed on the exam but they don't help. Additionally, he tells you test dates 1 week before.
He is a tough one, however, if you constantly follow his lecture and keep following up you will not regret it. Keep engaging with him if you want a good grade. He loves interacting with students.
Attendance is mandatory. Friday lectures help a lot...GO TO THEM! Follows book, however only uses his slides in class. Graded on: 3 tests, 2 projects, 13 assignments, attendance, Friday quizzes (extra credit only). Lectures can be dull, ask a lot of questions when you get lost. He likes participation. T.A. was amazing for my class.
He is great He knows do much I fell in love with vibrations He cares!!!!!!
