Isaac is a fun teacher. He tests are adequate for the amount of material that need to be on them. He is extremely helpful to all students. Needs to return H/W in a timely manner though. Overall, he is good teacher.
Would not recommened him for a teacher. Does not take time to explain problems. Only goes so far and then tells you, you should be able to figure out the rest. Does not get homework back in a timely manner. Does not follow through on the things he says, like returning extra credit work back to redo for points. Horrible with students.
Issac is a great teacher, though he is difficult to get a hold of. He clearly demonstrates the problems and you will have daily quizzes. Always gives you extra credit on the exams and drops your lowest one if you do better on your final. Overall, if you're a dedicated student, you should do well in this course.
Isaac was a great teacher, he really took things nice and easy. Always offered extra credit on the tests and hw wasn't madatory but you did have daily quizzes. He always explains everything in full and is always available for help. I recomend him for anyone.
HE'S VERY HELPFUL AND REALLY UNDERSTANDS HIS STUFF AND CAN EXPLAIN IT VERY WELL.
He was a nice teacher, and graded people fairly. Although, his voice was kind of droning and he used elevated vocabulary that I'm sure no student in the class has heard of. Honestly, I think he limited himself by teaching this class. He skipped big steps-finding them obvious, and then explained thoroughly the small steps-finding them necessary.
Awesome professor, teaches you the hard way then the easy way. Makes math a cake
Before I took Isaac's class, I hated math with a passion, but he is an excellent teacher and I recommend him to anyone planning to take math at Clark. It is easy to tell he is a genius, but he explains concepts so clearly and patiently that even an artistic, right-brained, math-dunce, like myself, could understand and enjoy algebra. He gets an A+!
Wonderful teacher. Explains everything in details. I took STATS with another teacher but had to drop the class becaue I didnt't understand a thing (it was a foreign language to me)... but when I took it again with Isaac, he presented the material such a detailed way that anyone in the class could understand it. Very nice and helpful teacher.
Isaac is one of the worst teachers that I have every had. I would recommend that anyone registered for his class drop it before it is to late. I am a good student who got straight A's in A&P and Micro, but this class is insane. Isaac is unorganized, unfriendly, and seems to get annoyed with students easily. He is ALWAYS late to office hours!
Isaac is a good professor, for the most part. He tends to make very long tests, so the entire class has a hard time finishing the whole thing. This makes it difficult to succeed. He is terrible at grading quickly. In his defense, he does stay on task, and he is reasonably available for individual help.
Great teacher! Explains everything in details that anyone could understand. I hate stats but I got an A in his class. The only problem that I had with him is that he doesn't grade tests and homeworks on time. Otherwise, great teacher.
Mr. Eskine gives reasonable amount of homework -some of which are difficult. I found this to my advantage though, since it prepared me to solve difficult problems, which fortunately didn't appear too frequently on the exams. His homework helped me ace his exams, not to mention his help w/the tutorial outside the class. Overall, it was a great class!
Makes the subject approachable by careful explanation of subject. If you're really wanting to learn I think he is a good professor to help you on your way.
Doesn't use class time efficiently, is very slow at grading tests & getting them back to students. In examples on the board he frequently skips steps & makes mistakes in calcs causing confusion. Does not allow enough time for quizzes & tests, so many students don't finish in time allowed & your whole grade is from tests & quizzes, nothing else.
Talks like he is reading directly from the textbook. He assigns 80 problems of homework a night AND DOESN'T COLLECT IT. I dropped the first week. He only grades quizes and exams. The quiz problems come straight from your homework, so if you skip a couple, you might be screwing yourself over. Completely useless.
I'm not sure what kind of classes the person below has taken. Homework is meant to help you learn the material, and the quizzes test that you actually learned it. Do the homework, and since the homework is 'straight from your homework,' you'll do fine on your quiz. I'm also in Math 93 and am getting an A. Mr Erskine is a good, traditional teacher.
Soooo helpful! Replies to email quick. Totally clarifies questions in class. He's that awesome that I'd be willing to take a 7am class with him. Compared to other math professors that make you do every problem--even the really nasty looking ones--he doesn't. And ones that you are required to do, he simplifies them amazingly. You can actually do college math, and succeed!
Nice and clear through instructions, but never updates you on grades nor returns your e-mails about them. We were all in for a surprise when grades were posted, for our "gradebook" online that boasted of high scores left us blindsided when official grades came out.
So he is nice, but he often showed up for class late. He makes a lot of mistakes on the board and goes slow which results in letting us out after class late. He is also a slow grader. Overall he is a nice guy, but not the best teacher. ):
Very Good teacher. He is the best for such a difficult math. Listen attentively. Don't relax in first half quoter because it is hard 2nd half of quoter and you will not catch up. I got A.
Went very fast and gave us homework problems that he had to look in the book to complete.
Did not use book at all. Lectured straight forward problems then had harder problems on homework and test that he did not show how to do in class, so all the notes you take are worthless. Whole class was frustrated!
You get out what you put in. Homework, and attendance is optional. But both will help you on the quizzes (couple questions from hw given every few days). Allows notes on exams. Lectures are clear and easy to follow. I would recommend him!
worst teacher. Did not help at all. Said there was 800 possible extra credit points if we found mistakes on tests, i found 5 and got 8 points total the whole quarter. Does not explain at all. Have to learn from the textbook which we all know is a joke, hence attending a lecture to figure out how to solve the problemm. Bogus.
Issac overall is a great teacher! Lags on grading tests, replying to e-mails and updating grades, but is very fair and explains the material well in normal language. He is very helpful outside of class, and is a nice guy! Very recommended!
Isaac is by far one of the best math teachers in Clark. His instruction is crystal clear and he makes sure to cover detailed example problems that teach you everything you need to know. He is not afraid to assist you and his instruction is easily understood. I highly recommend him.
I do not advise anyone to take Mr. Erskines class. He doesn't allow there to be time in class to answer many questions, and he skips through problems that people are struggling with. Overall I was not pleased and even though I ended the quarter with a good grade I still wish I had dropped his class when I had the chance.
Super good at explaining difficult subject matter. Do the work, and ask questions.
Amazing teacher who makes math fun! Highly recommended.
Great instructor! Clear instruction and simple explanations in class. Then takes time after class to explain things in further detail if you aren't getting it. Provides lots of preparation for exams and is very generous when grading if it looks like you have the concept but just made a small mistake.
Teaches straight out of the textbook. Hard class makes attendance mandatory if you cannot learn from the book. Exam question difficulty is based on his moods when writing them and quizzes are of the harder end of spectrum. Makes a lot of mistakes on the board, exams, and practice exams. At least he provides plenty of help after class.
Took him for trig and 095 if you cant learn from Issac you suck at math. Ultra clear very fair on homework and test, anyone complaining about his time to answer questions needs to realize you cant spend 30 minutes of every 50 minute class answering 2 questions on material covered the day prior he has long office hours and works in the help center.
Professor was very clear with instructions, not a lot of homework, helpful when needed and always available via online.
Most organized notes EVER!!! And great handwriting. His teaching style is very clear, explaining subjects many different ways. He is not exciting or charismatic, but I'm in school to learn not to be entertained. Math is really hard for me. Isaac helped me finally pass a math level I had failed before. Isaac is a great teacher.
HE DOES NOT HAVE GOOD HAND WRITING. I don't mind Isacc, it was more of a personality clash with him. He gets SUPER embarrassed when he makes a mistake and if he had just played if off it would have been fine. LOTS of quizzes, two exams and a final. Review and whole page notes for exams and final, but no notes on the quizzes. Homework online.
He fails to explain well. HE ALWAYS does super easy problems on the notes in class and leaves us to figure out the hard ones at home on our own; then when we ask him about it in class he ALWAYS acts as if he explained it all. I wish I wouldn't have taken his class, I hate it.
His lectures are extremely well. Way better than the book or even youtube. HW is not graded but is good practice. about two quizzes a week that keep you on your toes to make sure you know the material. Grades very fairly however, it takes him a while to get you back your graded work. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM.
Easy trig class. If you do well in a silent classroom and like taking notes the whole class period, you will love it!. If you do whisper to people around you (even if it is about math) he will stare you down. HW is all online, the class is easy if you at least show up have the time. You do not really need the textbook for the class.
Boring. Deathly silent class-room. Not open to discussion. AT ALL. Clear with grading policy. Unclear explanations of topic being covered. Corny jokes rarely slip out and they aren't very funny when they do. Uninteresting.
Mr. Erskine is very helpful and is well respected among st his colleagues. When I told a fellow math teacher that I was nervous about the reviews on Mr. Erskine the teacher said that "Oh dear, he is a wonderful teacher you will have zero trouble in his class!" That person was right. Would recommend to someone who is committed to success in.
Really tough quizzes, but easy(ish) tests which are most of your grade. Homework was optional when I took the class, but it definitely helped for the exams. If you can't hear him sit closer to the front of the class. He gives much more attention to those closer to him. He also posts notes in case you miss a lecture. Helps a lot if you have to work.
Takes time to make sure everybody understands what he's teaching.
Although the class I took was very hard (cause I'm bad at math) this professor went above and beyond in ensuring everyone understands the content.
It always seems like the first time he's teaching something. If you ask a question in a weird way it would stump him, but he explained well... eventually. Very slow grader of homework and quizzes, but the majority of your grade (75%) comes from exams. Allowed one page notes on exams, and if your notes are good, the exams are easy.
Isaac is super clear in how he teaches and makes sure everyone is on board. He's also a super nice guy. Would definitely recommend!
One of the best teachers I have had. Calc 3 is a hard class but he simplified it in a way that no one else could. When you have a question, make sure it isn't completely vague. This class is not a breeze and the tests and quizzes are challenging. Make sure to study! He is also very good about office hours.
Professor Erskine was the best math teacher I've ever had in the beginning of the term. Unfortunately as time went on, he ran out of class days to teach the material and the whole last 2 weeks were rushed and so unclear and he became disorganized. He also had us do homework on sections we never even covered in class.
Professor Erskine is a great math professor. His lectures are clear and he provides so many helpful material that I didn't even need buy the math book (but do recommend it if math isn't your subject). Awesome thing: if you get an answer wrong on a test, he will give you as much credit is possible for the solving work you did instead of just zero.
He's generally a nice guy and can explain complicated problems to a elementary schooler. From time to time, he seems to overwork himself or not get enough sleep and makes a mistake for the class, like showing up late on a quiz day. Those times usually result in a bonus to the students so don't be alarmed.
I wouldn't say he's the best professor I've taken, but you will definitely learn something from the class if you show up. There can sometimes be a lot of homework, but the more of it you do the better you'll do on the tests because he sometimes uses the exact question that are just reworded differently.
He is an amazing math teacher!!! hes very organized and clear about materials. you know EXACTLY what to expect on quiz and exams. I'm taking differential equation, which is supposed to be a high level math, but he makes hard class easy. plenty of examples in class to know how to solve problems.
Isaac is good at explaining things but also willing to take time to help individuals understand material. Genuinely cares about students, quizzes are easy if you study, exams come from quizzes. No surprises from this prof, he'll make you work but overall a great teacher. Go to class, do most of the homework and you'll pass. Taking him again
Isaac is a great prof. He wants the students to understand and is really passionate about his work. Truthfully, I showed up maybe 30% of the quarter and received an A. Easy class, cool dude
Professor Erskine is a wonderful teacher! He really made understanding Math after being out of school for 3 years easy!
Teacher was awesome! I missed a LOT of class due to family emergencies, but was able to stay caught up by email. Would recommend this teacher.
Isaac is passionate about math. His lectures are clear & what he writes on the board is exactly what you should write in your notes. The class itself is fast paced & hard but if you take notes & do the homework, you will do well on quizzes/exams. He's also SUPER attractive. Side note: He says everything with an "L" (elverything) it's cute but why
I took trigonometry with him and he made it so easy and clear to understand. You have to do the homework and study a little for quizzes and tests but he drops the three lowest quiz scores. I definitely recommend him! I was scared to take trig but he made it very easy to understand and I ended getting a 99.7% in that class.
Erskine technically uses a textbook, but he doesn't really teach out of it. There are mini quizzes every few days. He always puts up practice quizzes online the day before. He also provides practice exams. He's very nice and gives clear explanations, but I really wish he would encourage class participation more.
Isaac gives very clear explanations and answers all your questions very well. He gives quizzes every few days, but posts the practice quizzes before. There are two exams in class, but he also has a day before the exams for a practice exam and to answer any questions. The homework is online and you get unlimited trys to get 100%. Amazing professor!
Hes very organized and prepared. The homework is online and you get unlimited tries to get 100 %. 2 exams and one final, but several days we gives quizzes to prep you. He explains everything so well and will answer absolutely any questions you have. Theres practice quizzes and exams for every single one. Hes super nice too, best math teacher
I really struggle with math, but he was very precise in the way he explained things and I was actually able to understand it. He also showed multiple ways to solve problems in case one made more sense to you. He didn't count absences against you, but it was extremely beneficial to be at every lecture or else you'd have to teach yourself a section.
Excellent at simplifying math in an understanding way. Kind of says the word, "Everything," weird..
This teacher was by far the BEST math teacher I have taken at Clark College. His style of teaching was different but in a good way & I appreciated it. He is very helpful & is very approachable guy. He truly cares about his students & is very knowledgeable with math. He is always willing to help if you are struggling all you have to do is ask.
Mr. Erskine is an excellent instructor. His class is definitely lecture heavy, if you miss a class make sure you get notes! His teaching is very unique; he jumps around in different sections, but this has had a positive effect on my comprehension. The tests are hard, come in prepared! You are also required to memorize the unit circle to pass.
My favorite math professor at Clark, highly recommend taking his math courses!
Wonderful instructor. Very lecture heavy, but I love that.
He was a very casual professor. Always made mistakes on board both in writing and in what he was explaining. you did not need to show up to class to pass. He uses WAMAP for all homework and has a quiz about once or twice a week.
Prof. Erskine the best math teacher I've ever taken. He takes time to explain on the board all of the little things to make sure no one gets lost, even explaining why 3 divided by 3 equals 1. The tests, handed once every week or two, are easy if you've done your homework, and he's a fair grader. I would take him again in a heartbeat.
Hes clear on what he expects out of students. He makes a few mistakes on the board but its not a big deal considering they get corrected and he does math for 8 hours a day so its expected. Hes lecture heavy but it helps with the homework we have to do on WAMAP later. I would take him again.
He is amazing professor. I finished school long time ago, and did't remember a lot of stuff. He patiently explain on office hours how to do homework. If he knows that English is not your 1st language he will do everything to explain material in the way you will understand. I definitely would take classes Professor Erskine again.
ERSKINE IS AMAZKING. I wish he taught more upper level math courses because he's truly the most amazing math professor I've ever had. If you have the chance to take him, take it! He's very accessible outside of class and loves to help students. The homework isn't bad and the quizzes are fine!
Great prof. He made some difficult topics really easy to understand, and he was very clear about what he wanted from students.
Clark College is making a HUGE mistake by not letting Professor Erskine teach upper level math classes. I think every engineering student was sad hearing he doesn't anymore. If you have the chance to take him, DO IT. He's absolutely AMAZING at what he does. He made a scary class like calculus seem easy. He always makes sure his students understand
Good teacher but most of grade is based on exams I got 100% on homework & didn't do well on exams due to memory problems and got a "D" tough grader. Was literally 1% from a "C" and he still gave me a "D"
Hands down best Math Teacher I've ever had, he's extremely caring and he doesn't make you feel bad for asking questions. He explains very complicated things using metaphors in such a way that they become easy to understand. He provides practice quizzes and practice exams. I have never encountered a more caring teacher before.
Average at lecturing, but amazing course set up and very lenient on grading, would take for any calculus class.
Very friendly teacher with clear and concise lectures. Disliked WAMAP for the homework, but he allowed both a calculator and front/back notes sheet for the midterm and final. Definitely would not have passed without them. Quizzes were frequent (was a summer course) but very short (1-2 questions; 10mins ) and he always provided a practice quiz.
Amazing and thorough lectures. He was always available to help answer any questions and in a way that was understandable. The most difficult part of the course was the homework. Quizzes were frequent and there was a mid term and final test. The tests were very reasonable and he allows a page of notes (front and back) on all tests. Highly recommend!
Worst math teacher I have ever taken. Want to be set up for failure, teach yourself the entire course and fall asleep during his lecture then take him. He took a week to respond to an email. Very tough grader, offered no extra credit and uploaded the practices for exams and finals only 2-3 days in advance which where 65% of the grade.
Id say he was an average instructor. He was very helpful and informative. The grading scale is tough you have 2 Exams that are 65% of your grade. Homework doesn't effect you're grade. If you are familiar with the lessons you should do just fine.
This by far in my four years of college is the best professor I have ever had for math. He is there for the students, gives great feedback and genuinely cares about the success of his students. If you actually do the work and communicate when you are struggling you will be just peachy. I plan on taking him again in the future if he is available!
Professor Erskine is great. He provides great and understandable lectures. He assigns 3-4 online homework assignments a week along with a written assignment and an online discussion assignment. Every few weeks there's a quiz. When he assigns an exam, he also assigns a practice exam. He takes a long time to respond to messages. Overall, good prof.
Better get the online answer 100% correct and be able to understand what the specific answer it wants or you're not getting credit even if you have the right answer
I really enjoyed being in Professor Erskine's class. The work, as expected, as textbook heavy but I knew that going in to the class. I really liked the way the class was organized online. Classwork was opened at the beginning of the week. Practice tests were available before each test which was really nice. Would highly recommend!
This professor although easy, grades pretty detailed. Isaac Erskine isn't the best at staying on top of grading. And after you submit an assignment the grade goes straight into the grading system so you might see your grades fluctuate pretty often, so don't get startled at the false grades posted. The teacher does stay on top of assignments posted.
Isaac was nice to have. The class was online, so the bulk of it was just working through that program with little interaction from Isaac. When I had questions or needed some one-on-one tutoring, he was really good and patient. It seemed like he liked math and genuinely wanted to help your understanding of it as well. I saw this with many students.
If you take this class, go to the Zoom lectures every Friday. They help a bunch but few people show up. It's a great time to ask questions and clarify HW questions. There were two tests, a mid-term and final, make sure you study for those as they're in person. The homework isn't hard if you read the textbook, just a bit lengthy. Great professor.
This class was very hard and had a TON of homework. There are videos to help with the assignments, but I found that there were questions on some of the assignments that were not covered from what I could find. I found myself having to learn the material by using other sources like YouTube. This course requires a LOT of time each week so be prepared
Professor Isaac was wonderful to have. The class states that it meets in person every Monday and Tuesday, but that's just for the exams. Be warned, there's a lot of note-taking, so be sure to make time for it.
Good teaching in lectures. Used advanced vocabulary. 90 percent late policy a week after due date for homework. His class was very quiz and test heavy. You are not able to redo any quiz or test or make corrections. This class had an extreme workload with pressure to study every day for the quiz's every other day you had class.
Isaac's online class layout is very organized. He's accessible outside of class, and his patience is a great support when you're struggling. He provides opportunities for extra credit, so do that when you can. That's what saved my grade when I bombed the final and watched my overall grade drop as fast as the Tower of Terror.
Gave good lectures that didn't waste your time and introduced the content well. Gave us good amounts of time to process new content + oftentimes available in office hours if you needed extra help. Had tons of fun learning in his class and it felt very easy (as a person who is pretty good at math.) LOVE YOU ISAAC ERSKINE !!!
He is a great professor. Gives benefit of the doubt, always looking to give points when possible. 10 quizzes and 3 exams, provides practice for all. Office hours are very helpful and he gave great one on one help. The last few weeks felt a little rushed and homework heavy. Sometimes makes mistakes but corrects them. Super nice and pleasant guy.
This was my second class of Isaac's, but the first one I attended in person. His lectures are clear and straightforward. You'll have a mini quiz every week, so be prepared for that. I found this helpful in managing my test anxiety. Don't hesitate to use his office hours to clarify any concepts you're struggling with. I would highly recommend him.
A couple regular assignments, a discussion post with a reply, and a 5-8 question quiz. There was a mid term and a final. Mr Erskine picked a good amount of videos to show each topic from a couple of approaches so you're less likely to get confused There also was office hours every week that were also available on the canvas shell. I loved his class
