She tries to act very sweet with the class on a whole, but one-on-one she is very rude and is not helpfull at all.
umm ya does this remind u of anything "does not excite my Curiousity" well it should. i did not like her all i got to say is that she is HORRIBLE and i did as much work as a football player.guess who got the C and who got the B. WEll i got the C
Such a ****. She is not helpful at all. Obviously thinks that her class is the only one her students are taking. Gives an unreal amount of reading and work.
HATED HER!!! Her form of encouragement is putting you down - both in class and in private. All of my previous english teachers told me that I needed to be a professional writer... she told me that I was the worst. She's an awful teacher.
She told me the exact opposite of what all my high school teachers had told me about my writing. She is very hard to understand and is VERY sketchy. She gives odd commentary and is more interested in the class's psychology than their writing.
Hard to understand, and very confusing, not helpful
i've had some awful english teachers, but she is the worst. she rambles on about stories from her previous classes and likes stories about violence. if you are the unfortunate soul who gets in her class, tell random stories that are really weird.

Three words.... tough, ridiculous, scary. Tough class assignments. Ridiculous ridicule. Scary ideas. Okay... she treats her students like 3rd graders. I know she's an English teacher, but her English (language) is hard to understand.

Can you say satan? She is an awful English teacher! She can barely speak English herself. She not only belittles her students in class, but she chooses favorites. My advice drop her right away!
Dr. Wai is a horrible teacher. She doesnt have a life so she chooses to make her students life miserable. Did she ever stop to think that students take more than just her class during a semester.

Very hard to understand and never tried to help. You couldn't understand her anyway so there was no reason to go and ask her for help. She likes to talk about Canada...intresting...

A real pain, she's one the worst English teachers I've ever had. The assignments are dull and uninteresting, she gives everyone the same comments, and probably randomly gives people grades. If you have her, drop the class, take it another semsester.

Really people, she is hard, but not a bad teacher. Class is cancelled 4 weeks out of the semester for a 15 min conference..thats a plus. Grades papers tough, but suck it up, your in college, she isnt impossible at all.
Ok, all of that stuff is bullcrap. She's so helpful, and soo funny. She never tells you your work is bad and her assignments are not that bad. I mean, it is college. So deal with it

She's really funny and class is always entertaining. I had her for great books 2. There are a lot of short papers to write at home, but only 2 major essays. I enjoyed the class.
She was very funny and the assignments were not too bad. It was great to get out of class so many days for conferences!
i thought she was a good teacher. shes not hard at all and there is so much stuff to help your grade. no long stories to read, mainly just poems. you should take her, shes "tries" to be funny too
Took her my freshman year...very funny little lady but not good at teaching english. Grades papers funny. Try and take someone else!
She grades with favoritism, cannot speak proper English, and brought a canvas bag to class and took a sip out a bottle in the bag without pulling the bottle out! Sketchy! I did not learn a thing from this lady and got a B after two years A's in AP English

I'm not sure what people are thinking saying this woman is easy. She is extremely difficult and unhelpful. I met with her to discuss things and she was rude, curt and disinterested in my concerns. Do not take her, she is an absolute nighmare!

She was the absolute WORST teacher that I have ever had in my life. She does not care about her students at all! She is very hard becuase she gradess with favoritism and she doesnt teach her students ANYTHING at all.She just gives assingments and grades papers. I hated her class, it was awful.
She is an awful teacher.She'll tell you that you must prove your point of your essay whether it's right or wrong, but when she grades it, if it doesn't agree with her thinking then she picks and picks at it.Nobody gets A's in her class.She's very criticial on a personal level too.find an American.
Forget those other reviews! Wai is a good teacher-I learned a lot about how to write better. Assigned readings are easy to read and write about. Despite being foreign, English is good and understandable. Grades easy-almost garunteed to make a B on all papers if you don't wait until the last minute.
She's not easy. You miss 4 weeks of class throughout the semester. She tells you want she wants in your paper but still marks it wrong on the final draft and you'll get a B (no A's). She can be unclear at times so ask questions. I would look for a different professor.

I agree with the majority. She is a very hard grader and isn't very clear at times. I disagree with the person who wrote someting good about her because I am a good writer and I take my time writing my papers and still don't get the grades I deserve. Even the english center says I deserve better.
Grow up - her class is not that hard. There's only 2 essays and the reading assignments are short. She's not super helpful outside of class, but if you go and contribute she'll give you extra credit.
Isabella Wai is perhaps the worst teacher I have EVER had. Not only was she mean and harsh when it came to interacting with her students, she spoke maybe three words of English. She ruined my first semester at Auburn University, if you get her switch out of her class!
RUN.....DON'T LOOK BACK AND KEEP RUNNING!!! She is horrible! Barely speaks English, grades unfairly,and is mean and will mock and pick on you! If you are interested in any of this, take the class, if not GET OUT IMMEDIATELY!
She shows favoritism in grading and is very unclear in her assignments. She barely speaks English. And watch out for the water bottle... we never were sure what was in there, especially since the drink in it had a tan tint. I did not learn a thing from her class and was confused the entire time.
Who ever said she was a good teacher lied she doesn't teach jack, this woman is an embarassment to Auburn. I hate to say that I paid money to listen to her. She couldn't even speak english let alone teach it. I truly dislike this woman she is a -10 on a scale of 1 to 10 and don't think otherwise!

how do you spell horrible professor? W A I. unclear on assignments, unclear in speech..the list goes on. the only class that i have DREADED going to. conferences for rough drafts only confuse you more. horrible experience. at best, you'll get out with a B-
English please? It's easy to get a B in there but you will dread going to class everyday. She never cancels, never has a plan or purpose for class and is unclear about assignments. If you write for her then she'll like you but I would strongly suggest you flee from Wai!
Avoid her at all costs
BY FAR THE VERY WORST THAT YOU COULD EVER TAKE! Drop her class and get another teacher. She should not be allowed to teach! She is awful with communicating her expectations, and she does not care if ever single one of her students fail her class. Not only a bad teacher, but also rude.
Drop this class ASAP! She's rude, weird & dislikes anyone with a mind of their own. Doesn't speak English very clearly and shows distinct favoritism. Impossible to make an A. I made a B, but it was absolute torture to come to her class 3x each week.
H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E! She is by FAR the worst English teacher at Auburn! I was lucky enough to get her my first semester, freshman year--I worked my @ss off and I STILL failed her class! Please, if you have a lick of sense you will avoid at ALL COSTS!

Auburn is a lesser place for employing Wai! She is rude and unclear. She plays favorites and won't help you when you go to see her. I have Never met such an awful person or teacher!!! Do not take her; it is worth waiting on another teacher even if you have to wait until next semester!

You can't understand her very well, but I think she's an easy professor to write a paper for. She'll give you a lot of ideas.

She's very specific about what she wants. Even if you don't get it on your draft, she really helps out when you talk to her personally. She can be kind of random at times, but she's a good professor. Could get boring at times, but hey- it's school. Be prepared to work, but once again.. It's school. That's what you do.

At first I was scared to death of her class because I read the comments made on this but honestly, she is not that bad. I am a girl and I she gave me an A even though numerically I deserved a B. cutest woman EVER. She is Asian, but she has been all over the world and knows what she's talking about. Get to class on time because she doesn't mess around. go to class and at least half-ass your work, you'll get a B. doesn't grade too hard and she really is fun to listen to. the worst professor i have ever had. has no idea how bad she actually sucks. constantly argues with students. generally she is extremely overbearing. if you have to give a presentation dont expect to get through it without her harassing you the entire time. SHE SERIOUSLY NEEDS TO BE FIRED

She gave me a "D" b/c i didn't go to the english department. one time we had a in class assignment and her "favorite" used my work cited page to correct his, and when she checked our work, my was ALL wrong, but his was perfect and could be put on the over head! She's awful don't do it!!

Several of us stumbled upon this site today and were very surprised that the some of the very unfair remarks about Dr. Wai do not reflect her performance as a teacher. She sets high standard to help students discover their potential and develop their abilities.

I am an enginner, never had any respect for English as a discipline until I took Dr. Wai for World Lit 1 and 2. She is an excellent professor but does not give easy A's.

Dr. Wai makes us think of stuff we usually take for granted, like what is the American identity, who is somebody, noboby, and everybody. To expect students to remember all the details in the syllbus and follow them religiously is a bit much.
Some may not like her emphasis on scholarly peer-reviewed articles, but the struggles are all worth it.
I have enjoyed her course.
