No exams - grade based mostly on participation, midterm essay and semester-long research project. Cool cause you get to pick a project that really interests you. With all of Dr. Alexander's feedback, you can actually become a better writer in this class, too. Her lectures are the best - she always connects the material to current events. Take it!
This was the best intro class I've ever taken! Dr. Alexander's lectures are really amazing and she gets everyone in the class involved by relating the material to things her students care about. She's a tough grader but there's no reason you won't do well if you're willing to put in the effort because she'll work with you on multiple drafts. A+
I took Dr. Alexander's seminar on Migration & Identity, and it's the reason I'm an Anthropology minor now! She's really passionate about her work, she makes her research relevant to you no matter what your major is, and she's a great lecturer. She'll make you look at issues of race/class/gender/nationality in a whole new way. Highly recommend!
Hands down this is best course I've taken at Emory. Her classes weave discussion in with the lectures - always interesting - so if you attend, read, and participate you'll do well. Dr. Alexander's always willing to help outside of class, too. I honestly learned to think about things in a whole new way. Highly recommend taking anything she teaches!
This was the single most interesting class that I've taken at Emory, and I'm a senior. Dr. Alexander was a great teacher, and I would highly recommend taking any other class that she's teaching. She's incredibly passionate, intelligent, and has a really witty, engaging way of lecturing. Wish I had crossed paths with her sooner! A+++ professor
As long as you do the readings every week and participate in discussions (if you don't like talking in class, you have the chance to make up your participation grade through weekly blog posts) then you'll do well in this class. And no matter what your major is, you'll learn a lot! Dr. Alexander's really knowledgable but approachable.
One of my favorite classes. Learned a lot. Interesting and relevant material. Engaging lectures and discussion. Expanded my critical thinking and writing skills. Dr. Alexander is also really hot.
Not a test-based class. You read a lot and work on independent research. The class discussions mean that you really have to read, but also that you end up really understanding the material covered. Readings were general and current enough that I've used them again and again in other classes. Dr. Alexander really cares about you doing well, too!
I'm not the only freshman from Dr. Alexander's seminar on Migration & Identity who ended up majoring in Anthropology. Because she is amazing! But regardless of your interests, you'll learn about issues like positionality and difference in ways that help you think and write better in all of your classes. She really opens students minds. The BEST!
Like many students I wish I'd taken a class with Dr. Alexander sooner! So that I could've taken a lot more! She's by far the most engaging lecturer and inspiring teacher I've had at Emory. Her work is her passion and it really shows. Not the easiest grader but SO willing to work with students that you'll do well if you put in the effort The BEST!
Dr. Alexander is one of the most best teachers at Emory. She's incredibly skilled at leading discussion and really helped me to engage with the material and interact with the class like I've never done before. Her course was eye-opening. My best humanities experience so far! Highly recommended
Brilliant, passionate, but really approachable. Many things she says in class are provocative and they forced me to reconsider my perspectives on things that I had overlooked or ignored in the past. She does a great job of explaining dense concepts in a simple way and then asking you to form your own opinions. Keeps everyone interested and engaged!
I took an independent study with Dr Alexander and it was the best thing Ive done yet as a college student. Her work is so inspiring and she really gives her students a chance to get involved in her research. I felt like I wasnt just learning but was making a difference in the lives of refugees. (And I learned a lot too!)
Taking an independent study with Dr. Alexander gives you the chance to apply what you're learning in a way that you never would in the classroom. Every week, we did work that took our learning outside of class and brought our readings to life. I highly recommend taking an independent study with her if you want to gain real research experience! A+++
Definitely the best Humanities experience I've had as a Med student. The readings are always interesting, the lectures are always incredibly engaging, and even as a student with no plans to pursue Anthropology, I learned so much that I continue to apply in my other coursework. The material is relevant, important, and eye-opening. Highly recommend!
Not the easiest intro class Ive taken but if you put in the effort to read and participate in class youll be ok. Final papers instead of exams. Class lectures are good!
Dr. Alexander gives great feedback and really cares about her students. I feel like she made a big effort to get to know everyone in our research group individually and like you could go to her with any of your problems or questions - from her class or from others! She's incredibly passionate and seeks ways to connect with everyone in the class.
Isabella is an AMAZINGLY passionate and caring professor whose interest in her field reflects on her teaching style and consequently the students' success. Take ANYTHING and EVERYTHIG she teaches. Enough said.
Dr. Alexander is honestly the best professor Ive taken at Emory, and Im so disappointed that I didn't discover her classes until my senior year. Don't let it happen to you!!!
Dr. Alexander's work is amazing and she's really passionate about what she does. She doesn't like to give work just "for the sake of giving work" and so she encourages her students to find ways to make their papers and projects meaningful to their own passions. It makes everything you do in her class so much more interesting. Best class in Anthro!
THE BEST CLASS. Dr. Alexander is amazing. Don't miss the chance to take a class with her!
Ok this class is a lot of reading! But the lectures are really interesting - we were learning a lot of real world stuff that kept me interested every class even though I'm not an Anthro major. Reading + weekly blog posts + big final projects (no tests or quizzes)
Ok this professor just spent a good part of her weekend helping me put together a grant proposal that I've been working on (but kind of putting off till the last minute) for an independent research project - it was not even for her class and she put so much time into helping me perfect it and really learn how to write a grant. She is amazing.
The best professor at Emory!!!
One of my favorite classes at Emory. I actually enjoyed the discussions and assignments and it did not even feel like a class to me, and I mean that in the best ways possible! I learned a great deal without it being a typical lecture. Guest speakers were great, readings were interesting. I actually looked forward to this class and will miss it.
Dr. Alexander has a million things going on - directing films and docu-series, writing books and articles - and yet I've never seen a professor devote more time to their students than she does. She goes out of her way to get to know everyone in her classes individually and she really wants to do whatever she can to support you reaching your goals.
Dr. Alexander pours so much into her students - inspiring them through her passion and taking time out of class to work with them on their applications for jobs, grad school, internships, or research grants. I know I'm not the only one who's had my life path changed by her, and I know I'll owe a lot of my future successes to all of her support.
One of the best! Definitely the best if you have to take a course in the social sciences. Brilliant, funny, and super hot.
Dr. Alexander is by the far the best professor I have ever had. Also, she is by far the hottest. Talk about a winning combo! On a more serious note, Dr. Alexander really does go out of her way to help. I can't recommend her highly enough. This is where I would add more chili peppers if I could!
I started a project for a research paper in Dr. Alexander's class last year that I continued on in an independent study with her - and that just got accepted for publication! She has helped me so much over the years - advising my research, editing all of my drafts, helping me learn how to publish - and I can't thank her enough. She is the best!
Dr A is the most intelligent person I know and she really really cares about her students. You'll do well in the class if you're up for going to office hours every once in a while to talk through ideas and writing a first draft of your final paper. She's up for working through multiple drafts with you if you are. I would definitely recommend.
If you have the opportunity to take a class with Dr Alexander, do it!!! She's the most passionate and engaging speaker I've ever heard. And she has a way of making everyone in her class feel important. Her work is really fascinating, and no matter what your major is, I promise you that she'll change the way you look at the world.
Dr A is going to rock your world! You will leave every day looking at your community through a whole new lens. If you don't leave her class at the end of the semester with a different way of thinking about our world and your place it in, then you were sleeping. This is the single best class I've taken in college.
Dr. A REALLY cares what her students get out of her classes! I remember her saying something like, "I know I'm not teaching a room full of future anthropologists. So it's my job to figure out where you're all coming from and what about anthropology is important for you to learn as humans." She is simply THE BEST!!!
If you're going to take a class about Race while you're in college, make sure it's this one!!! Professor Alexander is WOKE! She'll make you think about Race like you never have before and her class pulls it all together - history to present, global to American perspective. She's the best lecturer ever and she is absolutely brilliant.
I have taken a class with Dr. Alexander every semester since I started at Emory. Because she is THE BEST! Her classes are never the same and every one has made me think about the world in new ways. She is seriously the most caring professor on campus and does so much for her students. THE BEST!!!
Everyone knows this is the best professor at Emory. If you haven't taken a class with her yet, you're really missing out. Get to her before she's too famous to teach us anymore!
I took Dr A's intro course 2 yrs ago and its still the best class Ive taken in college. I learned so much - global economic systems, social identities, human rights - and Ive used what I learned and the readings we did in my other classes. It was like my foundation for college! I think every freshman should take it.
Dr A has been so inspiring to so many of her students because she doesn't just preach it - she lives what she preaches about human rights everyday she's not in the classroom. As a graduate student, I find her commitment to research AND activism rare and refreshing.
Dr Alexander is seriously the nicest person I have ever met. She has such a big heart and she gives so much to her classes and her students. She makes me want to be a better person! I highly recommend ANY of her classes!
Dr Alexander is the most inspiring professor I've ever had. She is single-handedly the reason I decided to be an Anthropology major, and I know a lot of students who would say the same. In fact, if you want to stick to your major, then you probably shouldn't take a class with her. Otherwise, you're crazy to miss the chance to study under her!!!
I graduated over a year ago but I'm on this website right now rating her just so you can read this and know not to miss the chance to take a class with her. That's how amazing she is. I don't care what it is. I don't care what your interests are. Take her. You will not be disappointed.
She is the most amazing professor I've ever had. She is so full of energy and passion - every single class - she is so genuinely excited to share her brilliance with you and you can really feel that. I honestly believe she could make a lecture on slugs engaging and captivating for everyone. A+++
Dr A is THE REASON I wanted to come to this school and THE REASON I want to be an anthropologist. Her work changes the way you see the world and even in a 100+ student lecture, she makes an effort to get to know each and every one of her students.
She's unbelievable. Solid A+
She is the most inspiring, most brilliant, most passionate, most caring, and definitely the most attractive professor at Emory and probably anywhere.
Dr A has lots of cool projects going on, from making a documentary film in Africa to working with refugees in our community, and she always offers students the chance to get involved, if they're interested. Like she actually takes students with her to Clarkston. And to Morocco! She goes so far above and beyond what's expected of a professor.
I already recommend Dr A to everyone I talk to, so I figured I should write it here, too! The best professor in the department hands down. Amazing professor and amazing person.
Dr A is the nicest person ever. Everyone I know feels the same way. She's always there for her students, no matter what they need, and she really wants to be a source of support beyond the classes you take with her. She's honestly the best professor and mentor you could ask for in college. We're so lucky she's here. Please don't ever leave Emory!!!
This professor is really skilled at leading lectures - she keeps them entertaining and gets the involvement of the whole class. I'm not usually someone who speaks out a lot in class, but I felt totally comfortable in her class and I really wanted to engage in our discussions. The best class I've had at Emory!
I'm one of the MANY students who decided to be an Anthropology major because of Dr. Alexander. Her passion for the subject is infectious. She'll change the way you see the world and your place in it. And she'll make you want to follow in her footsteps!
She creates such an engaging atmosphere for everyone in her lectures. I never felt like I was in a class - I was learning a lot, but without ever really trying. I was just present and genuinely interested. It's pretty transformational. Honestly, it's made me re-think the way all my other classes are structured.
Creative. Brilliant. Infectious. Overflowing with intelligence. Overflowing with energy. Contagious passion for the work she does. Seriously, she will blow your mind.
One of the best teachers I've ever had! She makes social science interesting and relevant and really fun to learn. Her class will really challenge you to think about things in a new way. I took her her for a freshman seminar and it's still the best classroom experience I've ever had.
I am just grateful that we have people like Dr Alexander in this world! Much less teaching at Emory. I've never seen someone who gives more of themselves that she does.
I learned so much from Professor Alexander this semester, but even more than what we studied in our class, I've learned what it means to be fearless and chase your passions. She's inspired me to want to take bigger risks to reach my dreams and make this world a better place.
She's the kind of professor who is meant to be in a small classroom, not a lecture. When she actually did speak, they were the best classes I had at Emory. However, she was VERY reliant on the TA and students to teach as she sat idly on her computer. Don't need to do the reading and graded on two very easy projects. So nice and helpful and caring.
Take a class with Professor Alexander if you want a truly inspiring and eye-opening semester! She approaches everyone's ideas with a completely open-mind, and yet she'll challenge every single student in the class to think critically about the world around them in completely new ways.
I was continually inspired by Dr. A's intelligence, passion, humility, openness, thoughtfulness towards her students, dedication to fighting for human rights, and her ability to so gracefully manage 101 things at once! One of the best classes I've taken in my 4 yrs at Emory and hands down the best professor I've ever had.
Dr A inspires and challenges everyone who knows her to be better. She really embodies the "lead by example" motto, because no one is more committed to their work inside and outside of the university than she is. I had the honor of doing an independent study with her this semester and got to see how incredible she really is. Do NOT miss your chance!
Dr A is amazing. More than anything, I feel like she really instills in her students a new sense of confidence in what they can accomplish. In our class, she pushed us all try our best and we did - not because we wanted an A, but because we wanted to make her proud of our work, and because we took a new pride it in ourselves.
This class pushed me to think about the world in a new way and I am truly grateful for that. I wish everyone were required to take it.
I'm a pre-med student, so I've had to take mostly sciency classes. Dr A's class was amazing because it uncovered a whole new set of topics I never knew I would be interested in. Topics like how culture shapes healthcare, socio-economic inequalities in the U.S., or the global migrant crisis. If you only have 1 elective, this should DEFINITELY be it!
This professor has truly inspired me to become a better person and think differently about what I want to do with my life. Like everyone's said, she's incredibly passionate and brilliant and woke, and it's like she wakes up every damn day and asks, how can I use my knowledge and my privilege to make this world a better place?
I genuinely learned a lot from my final project in this class. Dr A pushes you to discover a research question that's actually important and exciting to you, and she's encouraged me to develop my research further through an independent study with her. If you give a little, she'll return it ten-fold. The most supportive professor I've ever had.
I actually looked forward to going to this class and will miss it. The readings are always interesting, Dr A always makes an effort to relate the material to current world events, and I gained the ability to think about issues from different perspectives in a way I never really had before. She's an excellent lecturer. She's also so fine.
If you're at Emory and haven't taken a class with Dr. A yet, you're crazy. She's the best professor on campus. Take a small lecture with her if you can. It'll be the best class you ever take. And once she knows you, she'll really be there for you in the future. She's helped me so much with internships and grad school applications since graduation.
Dr A's energy and passion for what she does (which is basically save the world!) is infectious. She's absolutely brilliant, she's absolutely woke, and her lectures are absolutely the best. She'll really make you think differently about what you're going to do with your life to make our world a better place. She's an incredible human.
Dr A is the greatest gift that Emory, the world and I have! All of her students truly admire the risks she's willing to take and I know I'm not the only one who aspires to follow in her path one day. She's not only an amazing teacher, she's doing work that future generations around the world will be thankful for. Most inspiring woman I've ever met!
Hands down the best teacher I have taken at Emory. She is passionate about her field and wants to see her students succeed no matter what!
The gold standard of professors. Dr. A is the best teacher I've ever had and her style of teaching really makes you realize how much your other classes suck. She's incredible.
Don't let the chili peppers fool you. She's young and she's hot, but she's honestly the most brilliant professor I've ever had. She's so passionate about what she does and her passion and brilliance are really energizing. I left every class feeling like I wanted to save the world! A+++
I really liked Professor Alexander as a person, and she does amazing work as an anthropologist. That being said, I don't think she is a good professor for larger lecture-style classes. She didn't teach much of the class and it was mostly the TA's and students on content. When she did talk, it was really interesting! Wish she taught more herself
Dr Alexander is truly the best professor I've had in college. I learned so much from her class and I felt inspired to be a better human by all that she devotes her life to inside AND outside of the classroom. She pours so much of herself into her students and her work. She's the most inspiring, caring, and compassionate professor you'll ever have.
Dr A sees the best in all of her students and always finds ways to overlap the class material with their unique talents and interests. She also goes out of her way to support them in their own research and create roles for them in her projects. I know if I reach my goals someday, it will be in large part because of her support and encouragement.
Dr. Alexander is by far my favorite professor at Emory. I can't tell you how much you're missing out if you haven't taken a class with her yet! She makes time for all of her students and really wants to see everyone succeed - in class and in life in general. She's just an incredibly giving person. Brilliant, compassionate, inspiring, selfless. A+
Dr A is amazing. Will change the way you see the world. Will make you a more educated, more compassionate, more engaged version of yourself. She is the best professor at Emory hands down. (And this is coming from a 4th yr Business student!)
Amazing professor! Learned so much and was pretty proud of my final grade in the class. Clear grading criteria and makes everything understandable.
Dr. Alexander is such an amazing lecturer and professor - You'd think she's been doing this for 50 years! She does expect a lot from her students, but she also invests a lot in you. She gives thorough feedback on all of your work and is always happy to meet outside of class. I would 100% recommend her to anyone, regardless of your major. A+++
I have never had a better professor. Dr Alexander is truly brilliant, passionate, and so deeply committed to the work she does - and to her students. This is what all professors at top universities should be.
Dr Alexander's enthusiasm for learning and genuine passion for the topics covered in class are infectious. She made me want to learn for the sake of learning and dream bigger about what I can do with my life. I can honestly she is the best teacher I have ever had by leaps and bounds.
I'm quite certain someday I'll be telling people I once took a class with Isabella Alexander and they won't believe me because she'll be such a big star. I've never met anyone with more compassion, courage or determination to make the world a better place. She's truly brilliant and makes learning what it should be. The best thing Emory has to offer
This was the best class I took in my four years at Emory. I can't believe I didn't take a class with Dr. Alexander sooner. She is the most engaging, passionate, brilliant professor. Don't miss the chance to take a class - any class! - with her. You will learn more from her than from all of your other classes that semester combined. Guaranteed.
Dr. A puts so much time and energy into each of her classes, and if you're willing to put in the work, then she'll really help you to make your final paper or project something that you're proud of. I've never had a professor who's more committed to her students successes than Dr. A. She'll make you a better writer, thinker, presenter, person!
Dr A is electric in the classroom! I've never had a teacher who seemed more genuinely passionate about teaching. She walks into every class with enough energy for the whole room and she inspires so much excitement for the subject in her students. A+++
There's not much that hasn't been written yet about how amazing Dr Alexander is. But she really is. She is hands down the best teacher I've ever had - not just in college, but ever. She's the kind of teacher who you'll remember for the rest of your life.
Dr A's classes fill up in seconds. Literally. Send her an email to see what she'll be teaching the next semester, tell her what you're interested in and ask her to notify you as soon as her classes are posted. I promise you, there's a reason her waiting list is 100+ students long! She is incredible. Incredible person and incredible teacher.
I actually don't have the words for how amazing she is. All I can say is thank you Emory for making it possible for us to learn from such a truly inspiring individual. Taking a class with her will change your life.
Dr Alexander has a lot big and exciting projects of her own on the table, and yet I've never had a professor who puts more time into her classes. She works so hard to make every lecture exceptional and she's always willing to work with you outside of class. I know a long list of students who still return to her for advice and help many years later.
Dr A is the best professor I've ever had. I took a course that met once a week for 3 hrs, and every week, I felt like the class was over in 15 minutes. I actually wished we could meet twice a week! I learned so much from her, without ever feeling like I was really learning, because her energy in the classroom keeps you constantly engaged. A+++
If you take a class with Dr Alexander once, then she's in your corner for good, and no one on campus supports their students like she does. Writing you stellar recommendations, helping you revise your work (even for other classes!), or mentoring you on your post-graduation life. She has helped me more than everyone else combined!
Dr A really invests in all of her students. She's accessible outside of class and wants everyone to succeed. But you do have to put in the work! If you're interest in film extends beyond the class, she'll hook you up with amazing internship opportunities in the city. It's been my favorite class at Emory and definitely the best professor I've had!
I am genuinely so excited to come to this class every single week! It's the best class I've ever taken. Dr A makes you forget that you're learning because she's so passionate about what she's teaching and she finds a way to make the material interesting and relevant to every single person in the class. THE BEST!!!
I work harder in this class than I've ever worked in another class. But it has nothing to do with how hard it is. It's not the hardest class I've ever taken. It has everything to do with much I care about the work we're doing. That's the magic of Dr A. She gives you work that really matters, and you work hard because you WANT to work hard.
Hands down best professor at Emory.
Took ANT of Migrant/Refugee Crisis and 202 with her, and she is by far the best teacher I've ever had. Knowledgeable, so extremely caring, and engaging. She wants you to learn about topics that are relevant and she challenges you to think critically. No tests, just presentations and projects that you want to do well on because they're applicable.
I took Intro to Film with Dr A last semester and it was the best class I've taken at Emory. She's so passionate about the work, she brings her experience into the classroom, and she goes above and beyond to help you with your film projects - she would meet me on my shoots to help me set up and always be available to answer any last minute Qs. A+++
INCREDIBLE. This is what teaching should be. Do not miss the chance to take a class with Dr A while you're at Emory. She's the most talented, passionate, inspiring professor you'll ever have.
Prior to this class, I knew nothing about film. I just knew I loved watching movies. Alexander challenged me to THINK about why I like the films I do and gave me the tools to evaluate them like a true film critic. I have a whole new vocabulary and new way of seeing, writing about, and thinking about what I love. She is an exceptional professor.
It's been years since I took this class, but I'm leaving this note here hoping that no one will miss the opportunity to have the life-changing experience of taking an Anthropology course with Dr A! I promise you, it will be the best thing you do with your college years.
After this class, I switched my major to Film & Media Studies! But regardless of your major, you'll learn so much and gain a really marketable skillset in Introduction to Film Dr A. I was nervous to take it because I was a complete novice, but it was the best class I've had yet at Emory and Dr A makes the material accessible to everyone. The best!
I've never seen a professor take a deeper interest in the development of her students that Dr Alexander does. And not just in their development as anthropologists or filmmakers - in their development as humans. Take a class with her if you want to have the most inspiring, generous, kind, and brilliant mentor for the rest of your life.
THIS IS WHAT A GREAT PROFESSOR IS! If you haven't taken a class with Dr. A yet, you're really missing out. Whatever she's teaching this fall, put it on your schedule. It will be the best class you take in college.
I'm taking Introduction to Filmmaking with Dr A this semester and it's the best class I've ever taken. She's so inspiring and she gives 110% to her students. She really wants to see us succeed and she's there to motivate us through her work and to support us in our own work however she can. She is truly a one in a billion teacher!
Everyone wants to take a class with Dr A! They're basically impossible to get into BUT if you're somehow lucky enough to get into one (which I was!) you shouldn't miss the chance to learn from her. She's changing the world and she is the most inspiring teacher you'll ever have.
Everyone who takes a class with Dr. Alexander wants to be her when they grow up. She's one of the most inspiring people you'll ever meet and definitely the most inspiring teacher you'll ever have.
Truly the best professor at Emory. Dr. A wants whats best for you as not just as a student but as a human being. She goes above and beyond for her students in a way that extends beyond the walls of a classroom. I took a class with her over a year ago and I'm writing this to say her kindness and brilliance is still impacting me to this day.
The best class I've taken in college! Dr A opens up so many amazing opportunities for her students and she shares the most inspiring stories from her own work. She has impacted my freshman year more than any other professor and is the reason behind my decision to major in Film.
If you're planning to take a class in the Film & Media Studies Dept, wait until you can take one with Dr Alexander! She's the best professor at Emory and she gives you so much support and guidance if you're learning about film for the first time (like I was). Now Im really looking forward to my future here and she's the #1 reason why!
The best professor at Emory - No competition.
This is the best class I've ever taken at Emory. I knew nothing about film going into it, but Dr A gives you the skills, theory, confidence, and support you need to create your own short films in one semester. I've never learned more from a class, and I've never enjoyed going to a class more than I did FILM107. I wish we had met 3 times a week!
Dr A doesn't approach life like anyone else you've met before and she doesn't approach teaching like anyone else either. You'll leave her class seeing the world in a whole new way and believing in your ability to change it. The most inspiring person you'll find on campus.
So smart. So fine. So captivating. The best class in the department.
Someday I'll be telling people I took a class with Isabella Alexander when I was in college and they won't believe me. Don't miss your chance to take her class before she wins her first Oscar! Best class I've ever taken.
Dr A's classes fill up in seconds. They should be the first thing you register for every semester and you shouldn't stop trying till you finally get in one (it took me two years). Worth the wait. She is phenomenal.
THE BEST PROFESSOR AT EMORY.
Dr. A is hands down the best professor at Emory. She's incredibly accomplished, driven, and inspirational. She cares so much for her students and really wants you to succeed, but puts a lot of responsibility on you. She really prepares you for what the world of film is like, and has opened so many doors for me already. HIGHLY recommend her classes!
This was the single best class I took in college. Dr A is brilliant, engaging, and committed to every single one of her students truly learning from her class. If you put in a little effort, she will match it ten-fold. She cracks open your world view and makes you want to be a better person. A+++
This class changed my life. But honestly, I don't think it matters what class Dr A is teaching - SHE will change your life. The most inspiring professor you will ever have. Don't miss the chance to take something with her if you're at Emory.
Dr A is so much more than a professor. She has been a mentor to me since my first semester at Emory (after taking ANT101) and I can't imagine my college experience without her. No one on campus cares more about their students than she does.
EVERY CLASS IS LIKE A TED TALK! Seriously, this professor is the best you'll ever have. Don't miss the opportunity to take a class with her (or at least attend one of her public lectures!) if you're a student at Emory. INCREDIBLE.
Like a lot of others, I'm leaving this review YEARS after I took a class with Dr A. She continues to be the most incredible mentor - supporting me through my grad school application process, helping me find my dream summer internships, and just checking in. I can't imagine my college experience without her constant support and encouragement.
I was so unbelievably lucky to be a part of Dr. Alexander's documentary filmmaking class this semester. I gained lifelong friends, learned a whole new set of skills, expanded my vision as an artist, and was taught by the most inspiring and innovative professor I have ever had in my academic experience Thank you Dr. A for changing all of our lives!
I have nothing but deep gratitude for the once in a lifetime opportunity to be taught and mentored by Dr. Alexander. She is a powerhouse and an inspiration to so many. To her, I want to say: Thank you for always pushing me and seeing me through my growth as an artist, an activist, and a storyteller. You are incredible!
MY INSPIRATION. This professor is the reason I want to be an anthropologist. But everyone leaves their semester with Alexander-Nathani wanting to be a better human. Taking a class with her is a life-changing experience. She makes you feel empowered to change the world.
I was lucky enough to take Intro to Filmmaking with Dr Alexander-Nathani my freshman year and I've taken one of her classes every year since. She is hand's down the best professor at Emory. She makes a significant investment in supporting every one of her students through their entire college careers and beyond. She is the definition of mentorship.
Brilliant, engaging, creative approach to teaching anthropology. This is the best class I took in the department - maybe in the whole school. Dr Alexander-Nathani is phenomenal. Definitely don't miss the chance to take her class - whatever it is!
No single person-professor, family member, friend-has helped me navigate the challenges of post-college life more than Dr. A. She has supported me through job applications, grad school applications, grant applications-and not just in writing letters of support. She is always available to listen, to offer advice, and to encourage me when I need it.
The best professor I had in college. If you have the chance to catch one of her public lectures, don't miss it! It will change the way you see the world.
Every class with Dr A is like a TED Talk! Amazing professor who makes you wish there were more days in the semester. She's been accessible outside of class and if you're willing to work, she's willing to put in the time and effort for you. She sets all of her students up to succeed.
This class was the reason I minored in Anthropology. Dr. A works hard to find out what you care about and she makes the material accessible and interesting to everyone in the class. Highly recommend to all incoming freshmen! It's the perfect introduction to social sciences.
Dr. Alexander-Nathani guest taught one module (on human rights) of my course this semester and she was phenomenal. She does a great job explaining the anthropological theory part, which can be tricky, and the examples she provides through stories and films make it feel relevant and engaging to everyone in the class.
Dr. Alexander-Nathani was a guest lecturer in my Anthropology and it was the best 3 classes of the semester. We read her book on the migrant & refugee crisis (which I highly recommend if you want to learn about the crisis and read a really good book at the same time) and watched her new documentary film. Don't miss the chance to see her speak live!
