easy course, made it really easy, tests were based on her notes rather than book

great teacher though tend to fall asleep when she puts up slides. other than that she's really helpful & marks easily... also really easygoing.
I wish you people in her classics course would get her name right. She's a fantastic latin teacher.
She gave you a lot of information, and expected you to know it, but her classes were very interesting. The exams wern't too hard, just long. She also gives a lot of leeway on essay topic choice.
She marks easy. Gives interesting topics in class. I did not even put an iota of effort in this class and still got an A-
Tests based on lectures and if you know the names of characters - you should do well. Very passionate about the material. Sometimes a little dull but forgivable given the material. Worst part of class was other students rhetorical questions that wasted class time. She's also a Trekkie!
Really quirky, hilarious manner of speech, quite funny, easy to approach, requires a lot of studying from her students, but is an exceptional teacher and is very understanding
she is really interesting, but her notes are very high speed, so if you miss a class you miss a lot, but she is a fair marker, and very understanding
Class was easy...just take good notes and memorize for the test and you're set!! Don't need the textbook at all!!!
She is a very clear (though quick) speaker. I found her to be an excellent teacher. She really helps you understand. She made the courses so much easier than they might be but I still learned an awful lot. She lacks insight into the meaning of myth however, & seems to like to keep things light.
Took Classics 221 before I had this class. Did not find indepth explanation of stories nor any great knowledge of mythology presented in this class. Class not hard if you conform to simple "cookie-cutter" descriptions of stories
One of the best lecturer ever existed in this institution...
she's really nice, the class is pretty easy provided you go to classes and take notes. She's good at explaining the material and actually marks on how much you know in essays, not whether you use a commar in the right way.
wonderful prof, doesn't use powerpoint which is a little outdated, very helpful and if need extra help or don't pass an exam she will do everything and go above and beyond to assist you, great nice lady, knows everything, but somewhat prudish, which is really quite charming, like a grandma
She is interesting to listen to and passionate about the material. She is very friendly and smiles and laughs more often than many profs, and is always willing to help after class. She covers the material in class very quickly, so make sure you can take notes fast or have a recorder, but given the amount of material to cover does it very well.
I loved Isabelle! She has such a cute and friendly personality she makes learning enjoyable. Knows a scarily large amount about these myths which astounds me. Understands students, goes above and beyond to help students, tests are very fair and generous, and has a DELIGHTFUL sense of humour. LOVED her class! I'm going to be sad not having her
Being in her class was like spending a part of my day listening to stories and myths as they were meant to be told. She has a lot of patience with the class and will answer any question you might have, even if it has nothing to do with what may appear on tests. Fair marker and an overall good prof.
She has to be the best professor I've had here at Grant MacEwan. She is just awsome and seems to know almost everything about mythology! She is fantastic. She really knows how to lecture. She uses no powerpoints or anything at all but you can't help finding her class to be engaging! She's great!
wonderful sweet lady always ready to help, you just want to hug her.
This Prof. makes the class easy. The material is pretty straight forward, average learning, but she makes this class really fun. The way she teaches makes you think that everythings easy. Great PROF!!!! 10/10.
She has simple weekly quizes based upon word translations and word alterations, no grammer or sentences on quizzes
awesome teacher, very nice and friendly, always available to help, favorite prof by far
Great prof. Fun, easy class. Interesting topics to cover. A lot of writing involved when taking notes, but easy to remember.
Interesting to listen to, great anecdotes, clear guidelines for tests and essays. An absolute delight to be in her class. Always available to help and explain. Seriously amazing.
Wow. She is a professor who knows how to teach. Her teaching can be quite dry at times but I found that it was a big help when it came to me learning Latin. Class can get a bit boring when she turns to indivials to translate however it is very good practice.
Really nice lady. If you take detailed notes every class in Classics 102, you are golden.
Very nice lady, not completely necessary to attend class and she gives great references of places to find notes that you missed. A lot of note taking but required it?s to do well in this class. As long as you take good notes all the time and read the required reading you?ll do great. It?s hard not to pay attention, very interesting content.
An excellent prof. If you attend class you are guaranteed a B+, she writes down key points and then talks but if you write down what she says and then study before the exams you should do well because she explains everything very well. I didnt read all of the books but it is recommened to do better. Good prof, definitely recommended!
Dr Donald is an excellent prof. Her presentations are very analytical but she ties the important details together nicely. I especially appreciated how she would outline what minor parts of the myths weren't to be tested on. Very fair marker and easy to approach.
One of the most interesting and insightful prof's I've had. I love mythology so she was able to deepen my understand while being a great teacher!
Great prof with easy tests! Just as a side note do ALL the readings she assigns even if she doesn't talk about the stories in class because they'll be on the midterm and final.
She is fantastic, fair marker, great exams, knows the material, and its basically like your back in kindergarten listening at story time.
She is the best prof I have ever had not only is she smart and interesting but also stunningly beautiful.
She is a wonderful prof because she is knowledgable and passionate about the content. The whole class she lectures about the myths and you take notes. Midterm, small written assignment, and final.
She's an excellent teacher. Whe knows her stuff, and everything about the topic. I highly recommend taking he classes. But you cannot skip any of her lasses. No notes on blackboard. All lectures are oral. She's amazing!
A very engaging and fun to listen to professor. She can talk quickly sometimes, but will always repeat herself if asked to. She was great to have for an 8 AM class too because she made you want to pay attention.
Learned scholar; passionate, engrossing & exceptional pedagogy. A word from the wise: do not take this class in compression (summer section); the reading & study volume is insane--& it's not the Dr.'s fault; the syllabus is admin fixed. Although I loved having Dr. D, taking this class in the summer was like taking like a 6-credit, 3rd-year. Eep!
helpful and pleasant
Dr Donald is an amazing instructor. She is very knowledable and very pleasant. She makes understanding the concepts easy to learn and understandable. I cant imagine the patience it would take to teach another language but she seems to master patience.
Wonderful teacher, keeps you intrigued but hard to keep up with notes because she speaks so fast. Also tests were very difficult because you have to make sure you do the readings and reread! A lot of questions came straight from the books and with an abundance of reading it makes it difficult
Great prof!!! Really good at making lectures fun. Very low textbook use, but the exams are 95% from the lectures. Does talk very fast in class when telling myths and general information about gods and so on, that's my ONLY complaint. Would recommend bring a laptop to class because of how fast she talks. GREAT PROF I TOTALLY RECOMMEND
Good prof, lots of note taking though. Be prepared for your hand to kill, better off getting a lap top for taking notes. She is very clear for exams. They are pretty easy and I never read anything in this class and I finished with an A-
I had her for both CLAS 102 and LATN 101-102. She's fantastic. Really easygoing and nice. Classes were easy and relieving. There is a lot of notes though, so keep up! Great prof, hope to have her again.
Had Dr. Donald for Classics 102 and LOVED it! She made it really interesting and kept the stories coming. She dictates notes and only writes things on the board with weird spelling. Her tests are really easy if you write down everything she says. She is a easy marker too. I would take a class with her again in a heartbeat. Just an awesome old lady!
I loved this class. The myths and very intriguing and I found myself ranting on about them to people who most likely didn't care. Midterm was easy, didn't study and got an A. Have to attend class unless you have a friend willing to share notes. Nothing posted on blackboard. And if you miss class, you miss probably about ten pages of notes.
Not a bad prof, super enthusiastic. Overall, I enjoyed this class. Textbook use is VERY HIGH, so avoid this class if you aren't a fan of reading the materials, as you have like 5 text books to go through, as well as some online sources. Pretty easy grader, though.
Easy midterm, final was much more detailed. Sweet sweet lady though, really passionate. I would take notes on a laptop as she talks A LOT and very fast. Interesting but annoying to study for.
She doesnt provide any notes or power points, If you miss class you might as well drop it. If you attend all classes and study its a very easy class to d well in. Even if you miss one class you will be in trouble. Try to get a buddy in the class ASAP. Just incase you need to borrow notes! She is very understanding, exams are normal difficulty
i had her for greek and roman mythology, she's an awesome prof. she gets excited whenever she explains something or is telling a story. cutest lady ever!! very helpful i would definitely 100% recommend her!
She was a very nice lady. Seemed like she knew what she was talking about. Her lectures were interesting however she didn't provide any notes for you so in class you really had to be on your toes when writing down notes in class. Her exams were difficult as she doesn't do multiple choice; her big things were knowing names of characters.
Absolutely my favourite teacher that I have had at Grant MacEwan. She knows her stuff and loves to teach her subject. I would take her again in a heartbeat.
I loved taking Dr Donald's class. She speaks clearly and projects her voice well. Clearly states what she wants from her lectures. After taking her class, I still saw her in the halls and she even lent me books on Physics and Spacetime (she is a Classics prof, lol). Amazing teacher. Knows lots. Would take her class again.
Dr. Donald was very thorough, yet at times dry. She was helpful, though, and seemed genuinely excited to teach. I found the exams for this class extremely difficult. In addition, DO NOT MISS CLASSES. She may not take attendance but you will be lost if you are absent.
She is the cutest professor ever, she is so passionate about what she teaches and it made the class more enjoyable. You take a lot of notes so bring your laptop so you can keep up, tests were easy as long as you went to class. She was awesome i would have loved to have been able to take another class with her !!!
She was one of my favourite professors this year. Her lectures have a lot of info and its up to you to write it all down so I would recommend bringing a laptop with you! She is so passionate about teaching greek myth that she makes you really interested. I thoroughly enjoyed her class! I would definitely take another class from her!
I would definitely recommend taking this class with Isabelle! You can tell that she loves what she teaches, which makes the class fun and engaging. Her lectures are packed with information though, so come to class ready to listen and take as many notes as possible! Her testing is really straight-forward and fair, if you go to class, you'll do well.
Isabelle Donald is a very sweet professor. She is so passionate about Greek Mythology and knows everything there is about it. I totally recommend her class, it is so interesting. She marks very fair- maybe on the easy side. CLAS 102 i barely could look up from my paper, there was so many notes. But i enjoyed it and would 100% take again.
Her lectures were very informative, her tests were fairly easy, and she got very excited about the material.
She seems to be very passionate and informed with what she teaches, and a nice lady, but the lectures are long and dry. They basically consist of her paraphrasing the readings. If you don't have any previous knowledge of Greek and Roman mythology, the class seems like an inside joke that you aren't involved in.

Isabelle was very excited about the material she was teaching, which made her a good prof, however, there was a lot of information thrown at us. Even typing, I found it hard to write down all the information quickly enough! But she's always willing to go back and repeat if you missed something! Don't try to handwrite!
This class was basically like storytime, Isabelle just talks about myths the entire class while you write down everything she says. I would suggest you bring a laptop because she goes pretty fast, but all the stories are really interesting. The paper and midterm weren't too difficult but make sure you know even minor characters for the final.
All of the bad reviews are from people who thought this would be a breezy class. You need to read and you need to work hard! Isabelle is an amazing prof, her lectures are interesting and packed with info. Bring a laptop, show up to class, do you readings and it'll be an easy A. Otherwise, I can't help you.
Isabelle is great! She's clearly passionate about mythology, and she makes the class interesting. However, the other ratings nailed it - do not attempt handwriting. Even typing my hands are burning by the end of class, there is a LOT of information. If you're even remotely interested in myths, you'll love it, but get ready to read and write!
If you have prior knowledge or interest in Mythology, this class should be a breeze for you. Isabelle doesn't really believe in notes besides the occasional handout or name on the board. Knowing all of the minor characters and their significance for the exams
The class is packed full of content, which she conveys exclusively through lectures as she doesn't post anything on blackboard, so expect to be taking A LOT of notes, but if you have even a slight interest in Mythology this class will be amazing. Isabelle is very passionate about her work and it shows, would definitely take again!
She is lovely and very passionate about mythology, this class was very interesting but really heavy in content. There is only a midterm, term paper and final, but a ton of material is covered. She talks very fast so a computer is necessary for good notes, she also does not post notes on blackboard, so don't miss any classes.
Theres no question Isabelle is passionate, but her outdated way of teaching makes this class 100x harder than it needs to be. She fails to use powerpoint and sticks to oral lecture only. If you don't read the unbearably boring literature you won't have a chance. Definitely wouldn't recommend.
Isabelle is extremely knowledgeable in the content that she teaches and VERY caring for students. She is very accessible outside of class and has made time for me outside of her office hours multiple times. Teaches purely by speech, no ppt's, she also talks pretty fast so you gotta keep up. Just 2 exams and a paper, great prof, awesome class. READ!
Isabelle is the best professor I have ever had! She is very passionate about mythology and extremely knowledgeable! I wouldn't recommend this class if you don't really enjoy mythology because she does talk the whole lecture and doesnt provide notes (you just write what she says). She is amazing though and I would highly recommend her!!!
Isabelle is a great prof, but I definitely recommend coming to every class. Very lecture heavy, and typed notes are mandatory since she doesn't use slides or anything and talks very very fast. Engaging speaker, just expects a lot of memorization! One midterm, one paper and the final!
There is nothing being posted after class about lecture content, you must attend class and take notes or you won't pass, all lecture information is important. There are only 3 major things your marked on so prepare and study for them. There is a lot of reading that she asks you to do, I managed to get by without it but prob would done better w it.
Honestly, I was really excited to take this class but she was maybe the worst professor I have ever had in University. Lectures are very outdated and all she does is write a name on the board and then expects to follow her every word, notes are very difficult to take. Very disorganized notes and all over the place. Do not recommend in the slightest
Try not to skip class at all because she goes through a lot in one class. She talks very fast and I would recommend using a laptop for notes or else it'll be very hard to catch up with the notes. Shes a fair marker and gives good feedback on essays. Lots of memorization but overall very easy.
Isabelle is a good prof but she doesn't use blackboard for any notes or for posting grades so if you don't come to class you don't really know what you missed. All her lectures are done orally and all she writes on the board is important names so it's easier to use a laptop for this class.
This felt more like a story telling event rather than a class. Isabelle is passionate about myth, extremely kind and lenient to her students. What she discusses in class will be on the exam, no surprises. You do have to read the textbooks, also just type out the notes. If you're not willing to show up in class, don't expect to do well on her class
Isabelle herself is a good prof however its just an oral lecture she just writes names on the board so you have to be listening. Tests are fair she try's hard to give marks where she can. However, I would never in my life ever recommend Classics 102 I could not believe how much content there was definitely take another humanity.
Such a sweet prof- however I really don't recommend her if you don't take notes with a laptop, or if you strongly dislike non-stop note taking. To do well in this heavily lecture based (all oral, no slides) class, you pretty much have to follow along with Donald's every word and be prepared to write continually. Also, skipping screwed.
Doesnt use blackboard but shes amazing she makes the class interesting and she really made me fall in love with classics. I recommend taking her class shes brilliant
I wasn't expecting anything from this class outside of fulfilling a humanities requirement. Dr. Donald's class is awesome, though. Moves at a pretty steady clip so you either need ninja hands or laptop. Knows and tells the myths so well that class is more like story time for credit. So approachable, she's the perfect person to teach a yr 1 course.
She is amazing! She makes Latin enjoyable to learn!
Isabelle was a great teacher. The only thing was that she does not use Blackboard and only writes names on the board, other than that you have to keep up with her talking to take notes but she isn't too fast where it's impossible. I got by with good marks without reading any of the textbooks. Doesn't take attendance but you need to go for notes.
Doesn't use blackboard so you need to go to class to get all the notes. Every class is like story time, she makes the class very interesting. I loved Isabelle as a prof! Definitely recommend her.
she's the sweetest ever. I missed half of a class and emailed her and she sent me a lengthy email with everything I missed. never used textbooks and she writes names on the board and tells myths so you'll have to listen but it's like an easy storytelling class. only one paper and a midterm and final is noncumulative.
Dr. Isabelle is a great woman. She is extremely kind and genuinely cares for her students. She is really helpful if you go to her office, especially for the term paper worth 30%. Her exams are fair and based off of what she says. Overall a great person and would take again!
I took CLAS 102 during a summer session, so there was lots of information given for every class. There was no textbook use and one could get by with purchasing Anthony Verity's translation of the Iliad from amazon for $8 instead of buying the textbook package for $140. Isabelle is a solid choice, as long as you attend lectures you will do fine.
Isabelle's lectures are a bit difficult to stay focus as its a full class of her talking and your writing, he notes are all she quizzes on but you must read the textbook to know what's going on if you decide to not show up to her class. She does very with indicating what week she'll be working on what chapter so you can easily go back into the text
As someone with no prior knowledge about myth she was not helpful. She does only oral lectures--that's it. I found her abrasive and not very friendly which also didn't help. She gives basically no feedback on the paper and exams which is not helpful. She has definitely made me not want to take another classics course tbh
There's no speaking component to Latin so there's online homework to fill those hours. Gives great feedback on quizzes. There's weekly quizzes and 2 midterms and a final. The midterms and final are similar to the quizzes, so keep those & study them. Flashcards are your friends for this class. Easy gpa booster!!
Grade based on 3 things (1 paper, midterm, final). You NEED to attend class and type everything she says because it's too much to write. Midterm was easy and based on what she says. She has a review and tells you everything that is/maybe on it NO SURPRISES. Need to read 2 stories for the midterm and tells you what to read for the final (textbook).
I was pretty unsure when I started the class since I knew it would be a lot of information but Isabelle Donald definitely made it worth the while. She explains things very well and will elaborate if you don't understand or if you missed something. Definitely knows the material and will let you record lectures. Definitely take her if you can.
Lectures are heavy but treat it a storytime - just don't fall asleep as it is all base on the quizzes and exams. I didn't buy any textbooks since you can find them online for free. She's a soft-spoken prof so you might want to strain your hearing or just sit up front during the lecture. You can easily contact her through email and reply fast
Lots of memorization but her story-telling made it easier to remember. She's pretty lenient when it comes to quizzes and exams which consist of fill in the blanks, T/F, determine the character and a mini paragraph (she calls it an essay). During lectures, she tells you which one would show up to the quizzes and exams, and not important to remember.
GOOOOOOOOD LUCK. her notes are awful. they are impossible to learn from and to review them is like hell.
She's very sweet, but I definitely didn't feel adequately prepared for LATN 102 when I took it next semester. Felt like we were missing so much key info so I decided to drop 102 instead of barely passing. Fairly easy class (especially with prior romance language experience), but just beware if you're planning on carrying on to 102!
Avoid this prof, online class with her was the absolute worst, she gave no notes and lectures were just her writing names and telling stories about them. Be prepared to read the whole text book and memorize.
Isabelle is a sweet prof and doesn't use blackboard or give out notes. You have to attend class and make your own notes as she is talking. She teaches based on the textbook and I rarely read the book at all because everything she tests you on is from her lectures. However, the book is good if you missed something, just not necessary.
Isabelle does not provide any notes, so you have to go to lectures and make your own. Her midterm and final are really easy if you attend class. Although her lectures are long, they are clear and really interesting to listen to. Take her if you can!
Isabelle is super sweet and passionate about her teaching. She does not give notes or use blackboard so you must attend class and make your own notes, otherwise you won't have the information you need. Her midterm and final are quite easy and she also marks very easy. She teaches from the textbook and I did not have to read from it.
I loved having Dr. Donald. She is a super sweet prof and I would definitely recommend her. The course was very easy. She graded us on a midterm, 1 paper, and a final. All the tests are very easy. Make sure you attend class and take notes!! She doesn't use slides or anything so I STRONGLY recommend paying attention. If you do so, you'll be good.
- does not provide any PowerPoint/notes, you have to show up to class and take notes as she speaks - she gives hints as to what is on the exam - 1 midterm, 1 paper, 1 final, all fairly easy if you pay attention, study! - you NEED to come to lecture - great storyteller, she's very passionate - textbooks NEEDED, it's a pack of 3 books
One of the best professors I've ever had. Extremely kind, caring and respectful. Super accessible out of class and gives great feedback during office hours, especially on the term paper. Outlined EVERYTHING that was on both the midterm and the final, so there were no surprises at all! Course is very lecture heavy, so make sure to attend. :)
If you don't show up to class, you will struggle. It was helpful to go to her classes right before exams, she gave the people who showed up lots of information about the exam that you will not have access to if you skip. She also does not post lecture notes.
Shes awesome but she doesnt post notes so you really need to be at class. Also, take your notes down with tech, not by hand. Its tough to write all of it down until the midterm and its impossible after
Just takes your notes with tech and mot via paper and you are fine
I loved loved loved her class. You must attend her lectures to pass, as she doesn't have online notes. Her lectures are engaging and surprisingly funny. She is incredibly knowledgeable, kind, and accommodating to those with busy schedules who cannot submit the term paper on time. I would recommend taking her class to anyone
A lot of note taking and reading outside of class. Graded by three things for the term. She is nice but she talks a lot and can get boring.
Dr. Donald is a great professor. She is clear with her expectations and what is needed to do well in her course. There is a lot of reading outside of class, and no provided notes for the lectures. Attendance is definitely needed, and you should have an efficient system for note-taking.
Engaging lectures, but you'll need to take detailed notes. Textbooks are a must, but unstuck AI can help with study prep. Attendance is crucial - don't skip classes as you'll miss essential exam info. Overall, an interesting course if you're willing to put in the work.
