The toughest course I've had to date. VERY stimulating. I loved the tests but I never seemed fully prepared for them no matter how much I studied. They really test your ability to think, not memorize. The labs were intense, about 6-10 pages each.
I great teacher. Even though he is the head of the Chem. department and the graduated from UCLA, he seems like he doesn't know chemistry that well. He is not easy, buy you learn. The problem is that he is very critical about everything.
very very hard class.
if you are looking for an easy class,DO NOT take him
the hardest teacher ever!
i had him for an 8-week summer course...BIG mistake! his class requires time and effort.
Very motivating and interesting, difficult grader but his class will prepare you for chem 101.
As his name, he is a goodman :D Best teacher for chem 60 at pierce. His class will be very good preparation for Chem 101. Lots of homeworks, but all basic questions on the exam. If you feel his chem 60 is difficult, you never succeed in Chem 101.
he teaches good, but he is very very hard.if you can take it with oxyzigolo.
He is a very good teacher. He goes over examples in class, and involves students to make sure that they understand. He is very clear in his teaching. Showing up to class everyday will help you alot. He's really nice, and wants to see his students do well. Do the reading, take good notes, and study!
I took his class but I had to drop. I just didn't have enough effort to put in the class. He is very hard but very helpful and clear. His class really prepares you for chemistry.

dr. g is great! he explains everything, helps out, involves the class...lots of hw but it helps to keep up w/ lec. - go to every class, u'll miss a lot. i like chem so much now and wish he taught 101/102! hard class but fun & good prep for my next chem classes.
Your final grade will equal your understanding of chem. Great class for people that can study and learn the material, he will help you learn it, but if you don't know the material when the class ends he will not pass you to be "nice."
he knows the stuff very well, and if you listen you will learn alot of stuff, but his tests and quizes are very hard, but great prepration for chem 101.It's even hard to get a B in that class!!!!
An inspiring teacher. He spent so much extra time with me to make sure i truely understood the subject. I got a C, because i started trying too late, but i still think this man is a great teacher
He is the best teacher i have ever seen. if you wane leran something take him..he tells you what u need to study for Quizes and that makes the quizes really easy
I find it sad that people who take chem 60 think its hard because you all took it in high school! How hard is it to get a B or A in a class you took already? Even if you didnt take chem in hs (doubt it), the class is simple and most of the questions concepts come right off the notes. Be sure to be precise and accurate in answers Nice teacher.
thinking of taking chemistry made me nervous, one week into the class i felt like droping the class. I talked to the proff. he encouraged me to stay, i really do not regret staying because i learnt so much in this clss and, it was during the summer. Goodman is really nice, understanding and, is an excellent teacher.I highly recomend goodman.
I had Dr. Goodman and he can be demeaning in a very subtle way, and I did not feel comfortable with asking him questions. He is a decent teacher, but not as cool as some of the other teachers that I have had. If you are a person that does well in a class that is taught by someone nice, find someone else.
overall a good teacher, helpful during labs. however, his tests and quizzes are really tricky
Nice guy, but for those who are taking chem for the first time, avoid the summer sessions! I came over to his office for tutoring and he would not let me leave until he was convinced that I understood the material!! Test are tricky. Overall, good teacher.
he's one of the only profs i've ever seen who uses actual teaching techniques, but he's quite overbearing. beware that he will say "you need to pay more attention to detail" to anyone, and he's not scared to make you repeat an experiment three or four times, until your results are within 0.005 of each other (actual experience).
Explained everything extremly well
if you are major in sciences, this is a very basic clear and extremely helpful class. Dr. Goodman, he is very organize , explains very well and willing to help anytime you need. this interesting class is for who likes challengings. My first exam was D, now i am getting all A's. Love it
His grading scale is a nightmare. His quizzes and exams are too long. Will knock down points on the smallest errors. When it comes to asking for help, don't waste your time, he'll make you feel stupid for being there. Everyone below this comment was exposed to a lot of hydrochloric acid. Take another professor, Oxyzolou is better.
tests are very tricky. you have to read questions really carefully. will knock down points for smallest errors, but sciences required accuracy and hard work. overall, he explains very well but you have to work hard to get good grade. Definitely recommended for who are insterested in Chem and want to major in it otherwise take someone else for ez A
great professor. He wants his students to work hard and do well. he knows what he s talking about. After his class, you will have a great basic knowledge about chemistry. Tests and quizes are always come from what he covered. An A is not impossible at all. Take him !
Horrible grading scale. Crazy grading as well, 300 pt test and 100 quizzes. Take another professor.
No doubt, Dr. Goodman knows really well what hes talking about. Hes a great teacher but he expects too much from all of his chem 60 students to think that it's only an intro to chem class! Take his class or not, either way's okay.
LOVED GOODMAN! He teaches very clearly, very tough grading though. It's really important to go to every lab and lecture. He's hilarious but sometimes slightly condescending to the stupid kids in class.
I am currently taking his Chem 60 class. He is definitely helpful and will always stay after class to help you. He will even go over a whole quiz for an hour if he has to(after class)just to make sure you get it. One of my favorite teachers ever!
the best teacher ever. he wants u2 learn. if u think his class is hard, it will be as hard or even harder with other teacher. make sure u can stay after class unless one day per week, that helps a lot. labs are easy if u follow instructions and read the procedure ahead. the first chapters r the most important, so pay attention since the beginning!
He is absolutely amazing! It is definitely not an easy A class but he is a professor that wants you to learn and do well. He makes the class fun and will help you whenever you need it. Amazing teacher!
Probably the best Chem professor at Pierce. His explanations are crystal clear, he gives review sheets for the tests, and most of the labs are fun. As long as you do your reading I don't see why you would get anything less than a C.
Good teacher, but exams are extremely difficult.Be prepared to go over concepts,no route memorization, and is heavy on the math.I hate his quizes and exams, but he is good.
He is very hard, hard grader, tricky test, every week quiz no matter what, will not give an extra grade or ext era credit in order to pass. if you are not A student please do this favor and do NOT , DO NOT take any class with him, do not look at smiley face here it is going to put you in trouble, forget about him
do yourself a favor and do not take him, his lectures are the best but tests are so tricky, very bad grader lots of extra work he kills all your life and even will not help you on his office hours you won't even find time to go to rest room and at the end of the semester he will make you cry, do not put your self in trouble with him
don't take him , tricky question, very bad grader you won't even able to get good grades in lab , he is so hard i don't recommend him
I can't believe people rate Doctor Goodman so lowly. Are you kidding me? This guy is one the best chem teachers on the campus. If you're having trouble with Chem 60 with Goodman, you might as well quit Chemistry all together. Doesn't get any easier. Excellent professor, great lectures, helpful guy altogether.
great lectures, helpful guy but worth in grading, tricky question, lots of homework, hard even in lab, doesn't understand you have other classes to do, always quiz, tests, crazy class, don not take him, the worth i have ever seen....
Dr, Goodman is "the" best proffesor I've ever had. If you are planning to go to a higher chem class, Dr. Goodman will prepare you, garantee. Very easy to understand, extremately helpful, gives you lots of problems but that's how you are going to be able to understand chem. Very sweet guy! I "highly" recomend him.
ALL I CAN SAY ABOUT HIM, HE IS A MAZING PROF. i HAVEN'T SEEN ONE LIKE HIM IN MY LIFE. I WISH I CAN TAKE CHEMISTRY 101 AND 102 WITH HIM.
For an Intro Class; this class was very difficult! Tests every 2 wks or so, quizzes every week. DO THE HOMEWORK, and try to keep up. I studied hard, but still seemed to be behind all the time. He offers help if you need it. NOT an easy class by any means.
dr goodman is an amazing teacher. cares about his students and loves chemistry. anyone who says hes hard just sucks at chemistry. hes not hard, chemistry is. he does all he can to help you pass. if you pay attention and study, youll have no problem
Amazing professor! Makes the material comprehensible and is organized.
Dr.Goodman is an excellent teacher. He is passionate about his field, professional and caring of his students. He was always there for us during and after class. Be attentive in class, come prepared and go to him for help and you will succeed. I would definitely recommend him esp. if you need to take higher level chem for your carrier.
Dr. Goodman is an amazing teacher. You will learn a lot in his class. He will do everything in his power to help you pass if you show him you are actually there to learn. Lectures are very clear and understanding but do not solely depend on it. You must read the text book to pass!
omg so this teacher knows his stuff hes funny and makes it super fun take him! i wish he thought all the chemistry classes
Really great professor!! he knows what he's talking about. He can have his sarcastic little comments, but overall an amazing teacher!I got an A in his class!! If you pay attention and do your homework (which isn't mandatory) you'll be fine! TAKE HIM! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!! :) he can also be very funny!
He explains every material very clearly so that students can understand the materials very well for the quiz/tests/final exams. I enjoyed doing lab assignments during the lab time. Also, he is the head of Chem Department at Pierce. If you spend time studying the materials he covered in the class, classnotes, it's not impossible to get an A.
He is such a horrible teacher! if you ak him a question he would say "talk to your group" and never answer your question! his lectures are a must! he always adds his own crap into the quizzes and tests so you should attain them if you want to do well. overall, his lectures are good but he is tricky when it comes to quizzes.be perpared to know every
this professor does NOT explain when you ask him questions. He states Ask your group. So Stupid! His lectures are good but he adds his own things to quizzes. Be aware of that and be prepared to work hard. Not helpful when one is confused and he doesnt care. Read book and do HW before quiz. It helps and dont be afraid to ask questions!
Not an easy subject, he does't make it any easier. It is an Introductory class which he clearly doesn't understand. When asking him a question, he answers back with a question. Not a good teacher. If you are an A or B student you will do fine. If you are looking just too pass, chances are you won't. He wants you to be a chem master to pass.
Goodman is an amazing professor, probably one of the best on campus. He genuinely cares, he doesn't give you a direct answer because he wants you to figure it out on your own. He'll hint you in the right direction though. TAKE HIM!You will actually learn the material. Not a super easy class, but if you put the effort in you'll be fine.
Do not take Dr. Goodman. If you ask questions he answers back with a question, or "ask your group." He's more concerned w/ your group having the same answer rather than the right one. Do not expect him to go over any work, either. Multiple quizzes every week. Literally, quizzes you the same day he goes over a new chapter. Online AND book work.
He is very serious about home work and attandance. I will not lie there is a lot of home work. but he WILL make sure you undertand the material. So far, I am acing his tests and I have never taken chem. before. if you are not afraid of a little more home work and you want to get an A!! TAKE HIM!!
Chem is a hard subject no matter who you take it with. With Goodman, there is very little room for slacking off. It is very possible to get an A if you work hard and study a lot. Good class for science majors. He is fair teacher. Hw every week takes at least 5 hrs to do,quizzes every week that really test your knowledge, not just memorization
Professor Goodman is one of the best chemistry professors I've ever had. The class is pretty difficult with lectures two times a week, and a workshop and lab once a week. There is also online homework. You MUST put in all the work to get an A. This class isn't for people who want an easy A, it's for people who want to learn.
Okay, So I'm a Chem major but Goodman made it hard. I dropped the class because I had gotten so sick that I wasn't able to attend for 2 days, a lot of material was lost, but I can keep up with books and classmates, which I did. I was receiving A's and B's and ONE C and he called me out and embarrassed me in front of the class. Not professional.
This man literally made me fall in love with chemistry. Lots of work to do but its all worth it in the long run. He prepares you for chem 101 and is extremely sweet, just go to his office hours! Beyond grateful I had the chance to take the class with him.
He's condescending and there is such a thing as a stupid question with him. Not very clear with his lectures. Expects students to devote all their effort into this one class. Quizzes are hard. Exams are okay. You can get an A but majority of the class won't.
DR. Goodman is an AMAZING professor. He cares a lot about his students. He's not an easy teacher so don't expect to get an A without putting all the effort you can into the class. He is open for office hours and helps a lot. Tests and quizzes are tricky (YOU HAVE TO READ QUES. CAREFULLY!!) He really prepares your for 101! TAKE HIM! He's Great!
Do NOT take him!He is rude. Arrogant. Unclear. Unprofessional. And acts as if all your time in your entire life is supposed to be dedicated to chemistry. As if you don't have other classes to tend to. He pushed us to get the materials by the 2nd meeting. And if you don't like him/the class and you drop. You're stuck with 200$ dollars of material.
He doesn't slow down for anyone and can seem a little condescending at times, but it's understandable due to how much material he has to cover and how much you should already know from studying/hw. Lab is easy, quizzes and exams are mixed, but overall it's just the tons of work that gets a bit intimidating. If you don't laze off, you should pass.
I had goodman for the lab portion of chem 221. He was late all the time and would frequently keep us over the allotted lab time. Not very helpful in lab, I have heard him answer the same question in different ways. He's pretty picky when it comes to lab reports, so make sure all your data is neat and understandable and that you have a good write up
Perfect and an incredible teacher! All time favorite. Really knows his stuff. As long as you study, you'll be fine.
Dr. Goodman knows the material inside out & expects you to know it too even if you've never taken Chem before! He claims he is there to help you but when you ask, he makes you feel stupid for asking! Don't take him! Not even if your life depends on it!
Dr. Goodman is an Amazing Professor! For those who want an easy A, don't take this class, but for those who want to be challenged, and have a clear understanding of introduction to Chemistry this is your type of class. Dr. Goodman will defenitly prepare you for Chemistry 101!!
he's a tough grader and his tests are hard. Although the lectures are clear and there is a lot of material to study. he Just runs through the lectures really fast. Gives a lot of Homework.
I take chem 101 with him and he is very tough teacher like the most harder teacher ever . Alot of exams and quizzez and homeworks long lectures dont ecpect extra credit . I dont recommend him
Dr. Goodman is a really good professor. He knows what is he doing and willing to help no matter what. He always available at office hours and encourages people to go to office hours. It is an easy A if you do all the homework and go to class. He is such a sweet guy and I would totally take him for Chem 101.
Had Dr. Goodman for the lab part of chem what a great guy and professor, he knows a lot and is a fair grader would take again.
I am taking chem 101 with him. He does not understand that we have other classes to. Lot of Home works and being mean in lab. he also does not give any break time even in his 5 hours class!!! get ready to do lot of research about chemistry and spending time on that!
His homework and what his lectures are two totally different things. Homework doesn't help for quizzes and tests, but they are worth a considerable part of the grade. It's super hard to study for tests and quizzes because he never teaches the stuff he tests us on. This class gave me heavy test anxiety and I would recommend to stay away from him.
One of the hardest chemistry professor I've ever taken. Lecture and home works he gives you doesn't correlate on the test he prepares. Trust me avoid this class at all costs!!!!
Prof. Goodman is average. He makes no use of visual aids during lecture and tries to explain heavily quantitative concepts using just his voice. This would be okay if he is an eloquent speaker but he is not. He also provides NO test prep whatsoever. His tests are fair but expect to learn all of the material yourself. Lecture is a waste of time.
I have to say, after taking this class its all fun and games until the next exam is announced. The only way to pass his class is to basically inject the book into your head, as exams gets tougher and tougher each time. His lectures are partially pointless as his teaching style goes, but I respect him for his efforts.
Professor Goodman is great. His lectures were clear and concise. He is always willing to help, however, don't expect him to just give you the answer. He will make you work for it, but that is only because he truly wants you to understand the material. He is very nitpicky about lab reports. Sometimes keeps you over allotted timefor workshops/labs.
He gave the class a surprise lab practical. No warning whatsoever. I did okay in his class but he is so anal about lab reports that you're bound to lose several points on a lab even if your data is accurate and thorough. Lecture tests were inconsistent. He would introduce new vocabulary on exams we were never exposed to before in class.
Professor Goodman is always available to help the students. His lectures are heavy and he goes into details; therefore, he tests the students on details. In order to do good in his class, you need to study a lot and memorize a lot of things. He posts a lot of homework each week which takes up to 2-3 hours to do.
Dr. Goodman has been teaching so long that he forgets that things that are common sense for him are completely new ideas for some of us. Would often answer questions with other questions & expect you to talk until you got an answer. Workshop wasn't very helpful; didn't really go over the answers to problems or explain how to do them. Intimidating.
Dr. Goodman is a really awesome professor. he gives a lot of homework. the tests are a little tricky, and the lectures are pretty dense so make sure you go to office hours. But, I really loved it b/c it gives you a chance to actually LEARN chemistry b/c this is not an easy A course so you actually need to STUDY ( i know its really shocking lol)
At first I though Prof. Goodman was average, but as the semester went on I realized how rude and completely unhelpful he was. He would make students feel like idiots when they went to him for help because he was just so rude. He was anything but personable and friendly and did not care if you succeeded at all. Course was easy just didn't like him
Avoid Prof Goodman at all costs. Ignore these idiots saying he's a good professor, if you are not a bookworm and just want to pass chem, this is not the professor for you. If you want to be a chem professor yourself or an actual chemist, you might want to consider it, but only if you really love this subject on it's own. No EC, Doesn't curve grade
Don't bother asking him for help, he'll tell you "figure it out" or will ask you another question in return that assumes you actually know the answer and just aren't thinking hard enough. He expects you to fully understand the material on your own and doesn't give you anything helpful in lecture.
Definitely makes you work for your grade. The workshops didnt help in exams, really wants you to learn so he doesnt help unless asked. People scared of office hours since he questions and makes you think. He wants you to learn and I thank him for that but the subject is tricky, he probably forgot about that, we need more guidance unfortunately
Dr. Goodman is a respectable Prof. His work as a professor is great, but can be a bit dry at times. Chem 101 is a course that has so many topics to cover in so little time that unfortunately causes him to rush thru some topics. No extra credit, No curves. It is known that this professor RARELY gives A's, you need to work AND be smart to pass!
I've taken Goodman for CHEM101 and Biochem (221), and thought his Biochem class was much better. Doing assigned readings before the lectures is VERY helpful, but when studying for exams, only focus on what he covered in lecture.
I had Dr. Goodman for both Chem 101 & 221. He is much more lax in his 221 class. Reading the textbook is helpful, but the most important part is doing the mastering chem and attending (and completing) workshops. He's a totally different fellow during 221. Super nice, patient, and caring. For 101 he is a lot more stern. Still a great prof!
I took this class around the time we went online partway through. Biochem is difficult and Professor Goodman goes over a ton of information. I really do want to note what a great job he did adapting to the pandemic though. He is receptive to feedback and tried make his lectures interesting. He cares a lot but tends to keep you in class over time!
THE WORST TEACHER EVER. Hardest grader ever. Disgusting. His goal is just to destroy a students grade cuz he gets a twisted pleasure from it. this teacher doesnt change any grades. It doesnt matter what it is, a missing word will get points taken off. Someone needs to get this man fired. If youre taking a lab dont take it with Goodman. AWFUL.
The Labs are so annoyingly long and stressful for no reason, made me absolutely despise online lab, I would rather eat live bugs than take online chem lab again
Professor Goodman started out as a seemingly nice and understanding professor. I started the semester excited to login and learn more about general chemistry. However, as the semester progressed through the online medium, he slowly shifted into a worse man. He grade extremely tough and gets upset easily- make sure each letter of the lab is perfect.
He started off nice and able to work with you but after three weeks would criticize if you didnt get something right, he also would ask student why are they taking this class. Too bad I was excited to take his class but I feel so discouraged now
Took him only for the lab section and I'm regretting it. If you have other options do not take him. He was fine and chill in the beginning but after a few weeks, he became the worst.
I took him for lab - take my word for it, RUN. It's almost as though he LOOKS for ways to mark down labs. Almost no one ever gets a perfect score and he always marks down for the most unimportant things. You can make the smallest mistake and it'll cost you 1/3 of the lab grade. Makes you attend zoom every week and it is the biggest waste of time.
Dr. Goodman teaches well, online chemistry lab was a challenge for all of us. But explains and clarifies well. He actually grades the labs and has high expectations. We used BeyondLabs for simulation and we did some easy at home experiments. Hes engaging and really nice!
I took Professor Goodman for CHEM 101 lab and it wasnt bad but I didn't really understand some concepts. 4 hours on Fridays were a lot for me but he is available during his office hours and answers questions. You can take him and try yourself. Tell him immediately if you don't get something. He explains details himself and stal the end with you.
Part 1: I am an honors Premed student. This class was a disaster. The teacher doesn't know how to teach. He is extremely confusing and writes on zoom board but his writing is unintelligible. I had him for lab and I am so thankful I did not have him for lec.I easily spent 20-30 hours a week on labs. This was because he gave conflicting instructions.
He never fully explained the labs and Im pretty good at understanding assignments. He also isnt an easy person to ask questions because he makes you feel dumb and isnt really helpful. Dont waste your time.
Worst science professor ever, unhelpful, practically shames you when you do something wrong especially in lab. Ciriculum is way tougher than need be. Luckily i got out in time and completed this course elsewhere and got an A. Do not waste your time with him.
He was awful and didnt explain anything properly. He gave homework class work and test with projects in a mess. super disorganized as a professor and only wants things his way. Worst teacher in the planet dont take him no mater what.
The labs are hard
Literally almost made me cry once because he singled me out during workshops because I didn't understand a question. He makes you feel dumb if you have a question. He prints out his power points which is nice of him, but I still had trouble understanding the material. I even went to his office hours for help and he basically pitied me. I dropped.
He's tough, but you should be okay if you go to every lecture, ask questions, and go to office hours if needed. He likes effort. You don't need the textbook but buy his PowerPoint handout. It is a lot easier to follow along then. He can sometimes be slightly rude but stand firm when saying you don't understand something, and he will genuinely help.
Very nice
He can't run the class smoothly without talking about something random. His handwriting is worse than mine and mine is barely readable. He writes all his notes on a piece of paper and doesn't post them, so either hope he doesn't put the notes you may miss on the test or ask someone for notes because he will not post them.
Professor Goodman was by far the worst professor I've ever had. It seemed as if he was unprepared for class, the lectures and examinations were confusing, this course is a hard class in general but he make it more difficult for you. Taking any of his class would not be a good idea.
Professor Goodman is a tough professor who provides thorough and detailed lectures. His labs are also quite complex and time consuming. Unfortunately, he does not offer any extra credit or curving of grades. Overall, a difficult course. I don't recommend his class.
The course itself wasn't difficult, but he managed to never explain or help anyone out. Condescending rude little man.
the class itself was not that very hard but his tests were pretty hard. he gives quizzes which are fairly easy if you study but they are nothing like the test. there is not that much hw, just lots of aleks. as a person, he is okay but he can sometimes make you feel dumb for not knowing the answer to a question. overall, he was just okay.
I enjoyed prof. Goodman's teaching, he made sure to include very visual examples in his lectures which I appreciated. To get an A: -do practice problems from ALEKS (hw site) and review worksheet questions to study for exams (I found this to be the best method of studying) -actively participate in lectures/workshops
Professor Goodman is a great teacher if you put the work in. I suggest going to all the lectures and labs, otherwise you will fall behind. This class will be a lot of work if you want a good grade, make sure to do practice problems and go to his office hours (he's there for a reason)! My tip is to get a handheld whiteboard to study and practice.
Rude tiny old man. I have emotional and PHYSICAL scars from this class...(I cut my knee open in lab). Exams always threw me for a loop, despite knowing the information pretty well. Quizzes in workshop, lectures until the last minute of class. Lab quizzes beginning of each lab, the questions come from the end of each experiment in the lab manual.
Want to feel stupid? Take Professor Goodman. He'll make you feel dumb almost every class. Make sure to hold all your questions in or you'll regret ever opening your mouth. He's extremely condescending and acts like you are a burden if you have a simple question or try to clarify something before starting your lab. If you love yourself, don't take!
He was nice sometimes but he makes you feel really dumb for asking a question which confused me bc at the beginning of the semester he was all about asking questions because we're new and learning. You think you understand the material but then you end up failing the tests LOL There's also LOTS of homework to be done every week
Professor Goodman has a specific teaching style, but if you engage with it, the class isn't too bad. Definitely use unstuck AI and the free textbook to supplement the lectures.
