Hard to follow his lectures. You basically need to teach yourself most of the content. He curves a lot which is good and needed. His exams are hard and require more time then he gives you usually. Kinda rude. Overall,i wouldnt recommend him.
this guy cannot teach at all.. he yells the content at you.. and moves SO fast. lectures are hard to keep up with.. too much homework.. more than you can handle.. tests are HARD HARD HARD! attendance is not mandatory but i would recommend going.. though it would probally be better to teach yourself the work.. dont take hime.. hes really rude too
If you can by all means, avoid taking him!!He cannot teach.I basically had to teach myself most of the material.Tests are extremely hard. Some cases are hard and they're nothing like what we went through in class.Rude professor.Does not mind failing the whole class.Attendance is not mandatory though.
Hated this teacher.Accounting isn't an easy subject and this guy makes it even harder. Homework for the class takes forever. He can't teach the material very well at all. Tests are very hard and the problems on the test are nothing like what is on the homework. Miserable class.
worst prof at towson. things hes funny but hes just mean to everybody, he doesnt really care how you do at all.
He was a good teacher but sometime unclear. You need to study from the textbook and read your notes. Gives a ton of extra credit
The material is hard, but he wants you to pass. Do all the cases and homeworks and participate in class. Show effort, go to his office for help, and he'll help you. He seems intimidating but really is nice.
The guy is super cool, very Knowledgeable, and hell funny but really needs to relax a bit. Do the assignments and the practice questions that he provide as the exam as perfectly extracted form it. Exams are difficult but his curves takes care of it. I switched to the ACC major just because of him. If you wanna learn Acc well then he is your guy.
Cool Teacher
Elshahat was by far the worst teacher i've had at Towson. The guy loses his mind if he hears a whisper in class. He rambles on and on and is condescending towards students when they can't answer his questions. To boot, he almost always holds you 5-10 minutes past the time class is supposed to end.
The best I ever had. I earned an A- in his principle class and I earned an A in the cost ACCT learning nothing more than what he taught me. He is a tough teacher and there is no room for slackers. If you want to learn Accounting then sign up for his class before it get filled up. def recommended if you are not a slacker.
If you are a student that does his/her homework and studies for tests, you will like the class. Having walked away from this course, you will actually know accounting and be able to hold a smart conversation with an actual accountant. Definitely not a class for slackers.
He is a funny guy if you work hard on your course. It's a little bit hard to follow him if you don't go through the book before classes, and you can't get a good grade if you don't study the material again after classes. Homework is time killer. If you do your job good, you can gain a lot from him. recommend him when anyone love acct
VERY STRICT. Hard to follow. Goes through eveything too fast. He knows the material very well and doesn't understand that students don't. Can be nice if you're on his good side. Very hard class. I'm taking it again with another teacher because I don't see myself doing very well by the end of the semester.
cool guy. accounting is hard but he absolutely knows what he's doing. just pay attention to what he says.
This guy is a little clueless when it comes to teaching. He knows accounting, but has a hard time explaining it so that students can understand. The homework is a lot harder than the exams, but the exams are still really hard, the averages are high 60s i think. I'd recommend trying another teacher.
I had him for acct 202.His test are hard and worded tricky...I attend his class, took class notes, read the textbook, took textbook notes, and got help from him and still managed to receive a 50 on his exam....everyone fails his exams and his curves are crazy because I ended up with a B. He has trouble with explaining things to students. AVOID!!!
He knows the material in and out and Explains it really nice. Exams are not easy and needs studying. I don't know about the huge curves that everyone is talking about I did the math and it is only 10% all the time!! If you are an acct major then you wont go wrong registering for this class but if this is just a prereq then u better study hard
Great class, great teacher. No complaints what so ever, the only thing is that he sometimes may go fast over the material but he asks many times if there were any questions. In class he covers almost all the material in the book. I don't know about the hard exam everyone is complaining about? Since when acct exams were easy?! so far i have an A.
He teachs in way that most students wouldn't grasp the material. You'll end up teaching yourself and going in for some extra help. He'll helps students in anyway he can. You'll definity will work hard in this class and at the end of the class you'll end up with gray hairs from the stress but more knowledgable in accounting.
He is not a Professor he is a lecturer. He seems to get annoyed when you question him and he always seems to be yelling at the students. He will help if you ask and he does give some extra credit. Tests are worded tricky and and the answers are also worded tricky. you hve to study for this class like it is the only one you are taking. Avoid him.
I took this class in a 5wk session, & it was difficult to cram all the material in such short time. He is very helpful, some my argue that he isn't, but truthfully he cares about students. He has a strong passion for accounting, and with the assignments & other credit points he gives, definitely will help your grade. This is an Accountant's class.
This Guy is the best! Exams aren't bad. All homework solutions and exam reviews are available online the entire semester. He will help you any time you ask. He teaches the entire time. To be successful YOU MUST STUDY FOR THIS CLASS! He curves! Do the Homework it is super important and he gives extra credit if you are a good class. 3 Exam+Hw= grade
Great professor, accounting is meant to be hard but he helps anyway he can, definitely recommend taking him
This guy knows his stuff, but he isnt a good teacher. He doesnt understand that accounting DOES NOT COME EASY for everyone. If you don't study for hours for his tests you will fail, and the multiple choice questions are worded tricky and he doesnt explain the concepts behind them in class. All hw is online but doesnt help you learn at all
I didn't get any other option but to take this class with Elshahat. He is not a bad teacher and explains the material well. 3 tests, 9HW (all typed), and an extra credit assignment. He curves the grades a lot.
Elshahat is a boss. He makes you understand the material for the class and is always willing to help. He comes off as very intimidating but is actually a very likable person. Definitely helps you with tests with curves but he makes you understand accounting. If you dont go to class then dont take him but if you want to put in the work, hes the man.
I took him for a five week summer class(not recommended) He comes off intimidating at first, but is really a nice guy who wants to help you. YOU WILL LEARN IN THIS CLASS. You will have to study and you will need to know the material. Test are kinda hard, but usually gives a decent curve to help. Overall great professor compared to others.
A great instructor, who organizes classes in a clear way. 3 MC exams and homework, all answers are on the BB. Reviews are helpful and questions are straight-forward. You need to spend time to study, otherwise it would be a hard course
Took class in the summer. It was pretty intense. Can't stress the importance of showing up to class. He is very generous on the exams but you have to show him that you're willing to learn. A must for accounting students. Know definition of accounting just as a heads up for the first class. Yes he will check you on your basic accounting knowledge.
Great teacher!!! Yes, it was not an easy class... but wait a min, this is an accounting, right?! And if you decided to be a professional, how can it be easy? Professor explains every single step, also makes sure everyone understood. He only wants from you to become a professional. Highly recommend this teacher if you want to pass CPA one day!
He's the best accounting Prof at TU and he's EXTREMELY HARD! Yet, you learn a tremendous lot and he's down to earth. CPA based exams so the problems in the text not very helpful but encouraged to read text repetitively to prepare. Also, do lots of CPA review questions. He is also very helpful and he want you to be a great accountant in life!
This guy is the best professor period. You must study on your own time for accounting! If you don't want to crack open a book become a marketing major. Even though attendance is not mandatory he will remember who is and is not in class, it matters. Take good notes in class and practice the material and you will get an A. Don't Just read the book!
I had him for 201 and he convienced me to be an accounting major. I took him again for 302 because I have never learned more from a techer in any class. His explanations of tough accounting concepts are crystal clear. Yes he is hard but you will learn more than with any other professor.
He teaches really fast, and I can't blame him because there are actually many stuff to cover up in this course. He is a great professor, and is always there for his students. If you study beforehand, concentrate in class, do his homework, study his exam review and attempt the CPA questions, you would ace this class. Highly recommended prof.
This is a hard class. Elshahat will challenge you and will make you work, but you will walk away from each class with so much knowledge. Tests are CPA exams, but he curves. He also takes into account how hard you try. Seriously, it may be hard, but TAKE ELSHAHAT IF YOU WANT TO LEARN
He explains too much but tries hard to intimidate people and show off than anything else. His teaches what's on textbook but tests on CPA questions, which is not fair because he's not available to discuss. He comes late in class and makes his students stay late. He may assign you extra credit work but may not give you credit for your effort.
The prof was the worst I have ever taken. I was not happy for what I got for my money worth. He gives CPA questions on all of the exams which he never explains. Prepare for the worth with him
He gives difficult tests. But in all fairness to him, he gives ample test preparation material. I even took it upon myself to seek outside free accounting questions to review with. E-mail was never a problem, either. He WILL use all class time effectively. You will learn a lot from this class.
Elshahat is a very fair professor. He seems intimidating in class, but he is reasonable and approachable. Unlike many college professors, he actually teaches the material in class. He made Intermediate Accounting seem very easy. "Not rocket science"... he often says during class. His exams are tough, but he more than compensates with curves.
Comes off as intimidating, especially the first day, but he actually is rather nice and wants you to succeed. Curves the tests quite a lot and offers plenty of extra credit, shouldn't be to hard to get at least a B if you work hard
Turn off your phone. His lectures are clear. His exams and quizzes are tough because of CPA level questions. But he means well by trying to prepare you for the CPA exam. He'll curve and adjust the syllabus so you don't fail. But that doesn't mean you can slack off. Read the book, do the homework, do the Gleim, and you'll get a good grade.
Take P. Elshahat if you actually want to learn something. In his class, you will have to work hard to earn your grade, and it may not be an A. His exams are of CPA level difficulty, and he may or may not curve, so it is best to study hard. Do not be intimidated on the first day, as he is just trying to set the bar for you to succeed. TAKE HIM!
Dr. Elshahat can teach more in one semester than you learned in the rest of your accounting classes. He tries to help prepare his students for the CPA exam by using CPA questions on his exams. It's definitely in your best interest to go to every class unless your desire is to fail.
Prof. Elshahat was the hardest, most intense professor I have ever had at Towson. He was a great teacher and made everything extremely clear, but his tests were ridiculously hard. I say that if you are going to have a mostly all CPA level test, teach us CPA questions, don't just assign us Becker CPA questions online. Made my semester so stressful!!
This was the hardest class I've taken so far at Towson. You're in class and think you're understanding but then test day comes and you're like what? he was a really good teacher though but the tests were a killer. Its essential to read your text book and do the online reviews, they help.
The hardest accounting class I ever took. I had to study everyday before the class to fully understand what he was teaching. It was hard but if you study the book and do the cpa questions you should be fine.
If you can manage to be half as sharp as Elshahat in the accounting world, you will be at the top of the corporate ladder in no time. His class is very tough, but its accounting, you need to be on point if you want to be successful. I am re taking a class with him if that gives you an idea of how hard it is, but also how great of a teacher he is.
Very intense professor and class. The class in of itself is tough but he does a good job explaining the material if you ask questions. The exams are CPA , in class you may think you follow along but when you try and do the work you will struggle. So do yourself a favor, WATCH THE VIDEOS!!!! he will curves or gives extra credit but not much.
The one accounting professor I actually learned from at Towson.
Best accounting professor at Towson, by far. If you're looking for an easy A: 1. you're in the wrong major 2. Do what all the other accounting rejects do, and switch to finance or marketing. ACCT302 teaches material derived from the hardest test in the CPA. Do well in this class, and pass FAR the first time. Promise.
The best accounting professor at Towson. Loves teaching the material, but he does expect students to put the effort in. CPA level questions. Work hard and you will escape the course
I learned more from Dr. Elshahats class than from all other accounting courses combined. He is extremely passionate about accounting and is willing to work with students, if they put in the effort! Course supplementary videos are extremely useful. Be prepared to study, this class requires a lot of dedication. Well worth it.
The best professor in Towson Accounting department. The best, not even one of the best professors in my opinion. Prepare you for the CPA exam, really care about students, always attentive to your needs. As long as you show your good attitudes, work hard, you will pass. I learned a lot from him in terms of knowledge and life experience!
Elshahat is a very nice, hardworking and knowledgeable professor. This class is difficult, make sure you watch the videos, read the book and come to class. Do not come or sign up for this class if you are not ready to work. He gives CPA quizzes and questions on the exam to prepare for the real thing. You will learn a great deal from this class.
literally the worst professor I've ever taken. so rude and disrespectful towards students even though this is a graduate level course. made someone cry and break out in hives because he is so rude and tough on you. Everyone gets anxiety before going to class because he basically tortures you in front of the class for hours. I would avoid taking him
This class is hard, don't take him if you aren't willing to work. Watch the videos and go to class. He loves accounting and it shows. He goes fast but he will slow down if you ask. The 3 exams are TOUGH and I failed 2 of them but still got a B. He wants you to understand the reason behind everything not just how to do it.
3 test which cover 72% of your total grades, his lecture and homework has nothing to do with the actual exam. class participation grade, this grade is entirely base on how he feels like, it has no grading criteria for it. He is a very closed minded person, so get ready to learn all the materials from youtube videos.
He teaches well but this professor has an attitude. He is mean while he sees it as trying to make student work hard in his class when theres no colleration between both. He needs to learn to treat students fairly.
He is a good professor. He knows his accounting and it shows. He will make you work hard for your grades. Take him if you want to learn accounting.
One of my favorite professors. His class will determine whether accounting is for you or not.
Professor Elshahat is very knowledgeable accounting, but his lectures can be very fast paced an hard to understand sometimes. This is the hardest class I have ever taken, many dropped out or had to retake the course, so be prepared. I would not take him again.
Professor's job should be making the materials easy for the students to learn, however, he made the class unnecessary harder. Avoid this professor at all causes.
Stay away from him... the class is the hardest class I took at Towson, he makes the class unnecessarily tough and some of the stuff on the exam was never talked about in class
The best accounting teacher. He teaches very well, very knowledgeable, and repeats the tough content to make sure you understood. Exam are hard but from the sources he promises it comes from. Study what he say you should study and you will end with a good grade (I got B+). He is always in his office hours for help. His video lectures are AMAZING.
If you want easy pass without learning much, he is not your teacher. He teaches the material very well. Exams are a bit hard but passable. Assignments, class participation, and extra creditS will boost your grades to pass the class. Key to this teacher is to not try anything other than what he advises. Follow his lead and you will learn VERY well
Knows his stuff. Quizzes are killers and graded harshly while exams are actually easier. His lecture is clear but can be fast paced sometimes. His summaries are amazing. He is a nive guy but id you question his authority in class or he will be very rude.
Very smart guy, however it was the hardest I ever worked in any Acct class but it was the lowest the grade I ever received, I did learn a lot but it gave me the most stress from any class.
Frequently late for class. Will always keep you late. Aggressive disposition. Don't talk to classmates while he is lecturing or he will yell at you. Gets off track frequently. You will do quite a bit of self-teaching. Avoid him if you can.
These are the things you need to do to do well in Elshahat's class: Go to class and take good notes, watch the course supplementary videos (they help a lot), and go over the review exams. His class will frustrate you, but if I can do it, I promise you, you can too. You just have to be willing to put in the work. He seems intimidating, but he's not.
I have very mixed feelings about Professor ElShahat. He is intentionally tough and will try to scare students away. I worked harder in this course than several others put together. It was crazy intense, but I learned so much. He is incredibly smart and eventually loosens up. I think he really cares about the students and pushes them to be better.
W/ online learning, he didn't even want to have class. He relies on you to watch already uploaded videos (some w no sound). His exams are timed and for the first exam I had to guess on three problems because there was not enough time- his reason is that he knows people cheat so he gives little time to complete. So no time to check over answers.
HORRIBLE. Does not act like he wants to help you. He barely teaches the material and relies on you to teach yourself.
Best accounting teacher ever. You won't forget the accounting he teaches you. Lecture videos are very lengthy but AMAZING. Exams are not a joke but not impossible either. He has an open door policy so you can reach him any time. He is always eager to help and assist students. Also, a great advisor and he helped me a lot while I am not his advisee.
He really makes sure all of his students understand the material and wants to help. The reason why I am leaving a somewhat negative review is because he was always 5-10 minutes late to class. when he comes late, his classes seem rushed and he covers things a lot faster than usual. for anyone who wants to put in work and wants to do well, take him.
I've never had a professor behave like this man. AVOID. He missed several classes, just didn't show up! He changed the syllabus multiple times throughout the semester. I've heard multiple other people advise to not take him, but sometimes you don't have a choice with your schedule.
Dr. Elshahat is a good person and is obviously very knowledgeable about accounting. That being said, his teaching style is terrible for the way that I learn. There is a huge prolonged group project. It's valuable but time-consuming. I would avoid taking 401 (or any class) with Dr. Elshahat if you don't learn well in high-pressure situations.
He procrastinated on many things such as entering in grades for assignments completed 3 weeks ago. He had not shown up to our online class twice without notice. Has trouble taking accountability for his mistakes. 30% of exam questions come from homeworks/practice tests and quizzes. He likes to come off intimidating but is decent one on one.
He knows what he is talking about and is good at it but the way he teaches is just awful. He doesn’t respect the students at all. He will point you out in the middle of the class and tell you to leave if your camera isn’t on. He is not understanding at all. Even in online classes he will make you take the exams in person so be aware.
He is the toughest teacher I have had at Towson. When you participate and answer wrong, he makes you feel stupid. The test are difficult and the audit case is so time consuming and unnecessary. Make sure you have a good group for this. He does however want his students to learn the material. Only take this class if completely necessary.
I know a lot of people think this professor is rude or difficult, but he really cares. He only can get rude if he sees you not trying. If you try, even a little bit, you'll pass the class.
One of the best teachers in Towson. I enjoyed taking his Audit class. He teaches VERY WELL, exams are heavy but managable, offers many chances for extra credit. The case project is very important to him. You will learn alot from it but it is very long and demanding. Makensure to have a good team, He is nice and sweet if you do the required work.
Took 3 classes with Elshahat. He is knowledgeable and wants his students to learn and be ready for the CPA exam. He is nice and kind but can be tough if you act improperly. The group project is very beneficial but consumes lots of time. He curves + multiple extra credit opportunities. Avoid him If you dont plan to work HARD to learn.
Avoid. Always late for class. First test is easy. Other exams are near impossible. Audit Case is time consuming but somewhat helpful. Grades are never in on time. Syllabus changed multiple times over the semester due to his tardiness. Not the worst professor but definitely could use some time management skills.
His lecture style consists of explaining a topic, asking the class, "so this [wrong answer] is right, right?" and then when the class nods their heads, shouting, "WAKE UP GUYS!" and then repeating the process 10 times. Not worth your time - but if you can teach yourself, you only need to show up on exam days and it's an easy class. Simple textbook.
As others have pointed out have never worked so hard in an accounting class. Teaches pretty well, but the exams are a nightmare. The average on the first exam was a 30%. If you value your GPA take a different professor and exams are in person for his online class.
This professor was the worst. I have never gone to the chairman of the department before, but this professor gave me no choice. he wouldn't let me retake a test that he forgot to activate online. the chairman told him to give me a retake. he doesn't care about his students and their schedules. AVIOD IF POSSIBLE. take online if you can't avoid.
He is frustrating & his reputation is correct. He gets angry & belittling. He does not teach. We teach each other and he critiques. I prefer he taught us. He gives 0 on HW if you don't come to class. He deducts points if you don't participate. He will call on you if you don't know the answer. Our class failed his exams & to make us pass, he curved.
Terrible communication, cuts off students a lot rudely (even if one may eventually state a correct answer), and tends to present one too many examples when lecturing. Furthermore, high expectations for case project and he says "don't be stressed". One needs to know every correct answer AND every little detail behind it, otherwise, he'll fail you.
If you want to succeed in this class you have to put in the work, there is no way around it. Very cool guy, very patient with serious students who want to succeed. This is a 400 level course so you cant just study the night before like a 200 or 300 level. His chapter summaries of the textbook material saved me time and energy.
While the professor is very strict about the class attendance and exams but he really care about students learning the subject and work hard for that.
Any bad thing you hear about him is true. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt. I could study for weeks and still barely pass his exams (and he likes it that way). He's always late to class and will keep you late. If you get something wrong with the audit cases he wont explain where you went wrong and gives you a zero.
Professor Elshahat's class is tough, but worth it. Attend lectures, study the textbook, and use Unstuck ai for extra practice - it really helps. The workload is heavy, but he cares about student learning.
Great class
He is the man! I think he can give many accounting students a reality check especially if you plan on going into public accounting. He was a great professor for myself and he is one of the few professors who actually care about teaching, unlike some of those ACCT 201/202 old professors who honestly shouldn't be teaching lmao
