Study from the book and it is an easy A. No Curves.
very interesting, very clear, must read but its worth it
The teacher explains everything very clearly, the notes are only relevant to study but the tests are strictly from the book.
Very clear. Very interesting. Knows his stuff. Easy multiple choice tests.
Awesome class. Will need to study, but he gives the essays before the exam a week before, but you will need to study. Extremely interesting, great professor, very knowledgable, awesome experience...if your into perception, highly recommended!
Not so easy. Sometimes explosive. Teaches directly from the book. 3 multiple choice midterms (3*20%) and multiple choice final (40%). No papers. 2 hours experiment is required (it's for all intro psy classes).
hard teacher.you get the essay questions in advance, but you better prepare them meticulously.short answers are easy.subject a bit tedious.he really knows his stuff.nice person.quizzes keep you on your toes.
If your looking for a good profesor, this is your guy. Explains everything very well and actually knows the subject area. Studying and attendance is a MUST!
The work is advanced. KEEP UP ON THE READING!! Very important! A lot of information. Too many graphs and charts. Just read the text!!
this is not your normal psych class. A lot of graphs, formulas and equations. Read the chpt ahead of time or you WILL fall behind
He's a walking TEXT BOOK, he knows his stuff, and assumes we all know it..so read the text! its a hard class...too much charts to know and facts, the only good thing about his class is that he gives out the questions to the midterm essays. Don't take this class unless you have no other choice.
the worst ever!!!!!!!!!!! point blank you have been warned!!
Although this is not an easy class and you need to study, this professor is truly brilliant and really knows his stuff. His eyes actually light up as he talks about perception. He truly loves what he does and it shows. One of the best in the business!!!
A horrible teacher!!! yells at you when you ask him a question, he's very hot-tempered. The class is extremely hard. Avoid this teacher!!!
HORRRRRRRRRIBLE!!!! DO NOT take him.
DO URSELF A FAVOR AND STAY AWAY!!!!
great teacher, very informative
much more of a science class than psych. not recommended for psych students. 9 quizzes, 2 hard hard tests and 100mc final-extremely hard, p.s. dont ask him any questions
This is one of the hardest classes I have ever taken in the psych. dept.--I literally cried because it was almost impossible (got a B- by the grace of God) but you are tested on every chapter with a short quiz, he definately knows his stuff- on doubt but proceed with caution if you absol. musst take this class
very informative. great teacher. tough exams, but if u memorize the book and understand the material, u will do great

DONT NOT TAKE UNLESS U HAVE NO CHOISE AND GET READY TO FAIL.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR!! AVOID THE EXPERIENCE!!! HE NEEDS TO RETIRE AND STOP TORTURING STUDENTS! His lectures are unclear and the material is hard so not a good mix.
Doesn't teach, just yells. Doesn't help
No Comments
STAY AWAY!!!! his tests are impossible and doesn't help you even when you ASK for help................. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS !!!!!!!!!! ***BEWARE***
Good professor. Very smart and knows what he is talking about. Not mean, and answers any questions you have. Class isnt easy, but its not hard either. 3 tests and a final, all multiple choice, 100 questions.Just memorize the the chapters he covers in the book and you'll do fine. I dont kno y others gave him low ratings, he's a good teacher.
Not terribly difficult(got A)He says that u have to study3hrs a day for the class, just read the book 4 days before exam dnt overly prepare for the essays, get general idea before the test. Final is 17 chapters so be prepared to do some reading(took me a week with other exams)Most of quiz material is covered during the day of the quiz so just listen
i personlayy enjoyed the class.there are 3, 50 question multiple choice exams and a 100 question exam. if you just read the book you will do great
A very good teacher. He only gave 3 multiple choice tests that were 50 questions, and a 100-MC question final. He is clear about the material in the lectures & he made himself available if you needed help. All you have to do is MAKE SURE that you read the book and you'll definitely pass.
hard work, but interesting stuff. you have to pay attention in order to pass his class.
*BEWARE* Very explosive and hot tempered. Do not ask questions. Read all the comments for this prof and only take this if you have no choice.
IF YOU ARE NOT GOOD AT P*H*Y*S*I*C*S D-O N-O-T T-A-K-E C-L-A-S-S- You must be good at physics to SURVIVE!!
10 minutes feels like 5 hrs.
Very HARD. You have to read the book in order to pass. Not once but twice and take good notes on what you read. If you have a clear understanding of the material, you'll breeze through this. If not, well, you'll withdraw like I did. I have him again for perception...scary stuff. Study study study is what's going to get you through with an A
worsssttt teacher ever! he used the old book for his lectures and the new book on tests. you have to read A LOT and take A LOT of notes! i would say the only way to get an A in this class is to read for at least 2 hours a night and study study study! i would study for hours to get 60s on tests. DONT TAKE HIM!
Professor Abramov encourages students to learn, he made such a complicated subject so simple to learn, I rate him beyond excellent, he is truly the best!!I will never find another professor like him.
Come prepared to Take Notes and listen to everything thing that he says, cuz' it's gonna be in the 3 multiple choice tests (50)+ Final (100)He says that "u have to read at all costs" however, if u take GOOD notes just going over the book to check them you're ok. Study is a MUST if u want to pass. Very knowledgeable but falls into boring, coffee!
This guy is crazy. Perception is also a really hard subject. Don't take this class if you don't have to
Sensory psych is a challenging topic yet he taught it with clarity. I thought his accent was pretty cool as well. Overall a very nice guy and good professor.
DO NOT TAKE HIM BEWARE! the class is EXTREMELY BORING+HARD tests are all very difficult studying the book + ur notes still wont help you do well he goes over the material too quickly be expected to know every tiny detail that he says+everything from the textbook my friend dropped the class 100q final was impossible, doubt anyone got higher than a 65
If you're going to take his class, just memorize the textbook (no joke). Each lecture is him taking everything from whatever chapter and putting it on the board/slides. There's no real way do destinguish what is important or what is not, on wheather or not it is going to be on the test so if you take him READ THE TEXTBOOK!
DO NOT TAKE!!! He is very hard and tests you on everything in the book even if not taught in class. Most people dropped it with a W grade, I worked really hard and got a B. Don't take him, theres gotta be someone better!!
to tell you the truth i dont know much about the teacher. hes really boring so i didnt bother going. if you read the textbook chapters assigned before the test (which could be a lot if left til the last minute) you should be able to get an A-/A. Going to class isnt necessary to getting a good grade.
Eloquent, very knowledgeable and interesting. If approachability is an issue for you then I would say he is not very much so, could be kinder, perhaps he's taught the class too often. If you enjoy a challenge and find psych. interesting then take this class. Shares his knowledge. Highly recommended.
If you don't have to take his class then just avoid it!
Take notes during lecture and read chapters each week through the semester. Dont wait until the last minute to review, there is too much raw material to memorize. Forget about asking him questions in class...he will raise his voice and repeat exactly what he said the first time. Just listen, and read.
If you can take someone else for this class then do so. His teaches perception as well I would avoid him. 30 ppl dropped and got a W because of him.
Clear cut example of a miserable professor who has been teaching for too long. Words cannot describe what a mistake it is to take his class(es). He is rude, difficult, and very dry. If Brooklyn College had any idea (and they soon will with all of these comments) what an awful professor Abramov was, he would be out of there.
Prof Abramov is an absolute genius, the textbooks quote from him! If you are looking for an easy A, there are easier profs in the dept. But if you want to learn from the best take any class he offers. He expects you to read the textbook prior to class and will not help you if you dont do your part, otherwise very helpful in and out of the classroom
This professor is an easy A all you have to do is read the chapters. I repeat READ THE CHAPTERS!!! If you read them then this class is and EASY A. If you know you're not going to read the chapters then I suggest you take a different class.
This professor is not bad, all his tests are multiple choice and u must read the chapters in the book! I wouldn't recommend him though
i'm honestly floored as to how people say he's a good professor. He doesn't teach anything. He takes each chapter from the textbook and just repeats it each class. If you can avoid it I'd recommend you do so unless reading 4 hours every night for 1 class is your thing.
Like everyone else says, he basically just reads the textbook to you each class. He's a pretty cranky guy sometimes as well. Read the textbook and you'll do fine.
This Professor is extremly boring. he repeats the textbook and it is a lot of reading. AVOID IF POSSIBLE!!!!!
He teaches a pretty simple class and tries to bring humor..i repeat TRIES but overall pretty good. As long as you read the chapters you should be fine and he helps to the extent that he can as long as you dont ask stupid questions. If you study often then i'd recommend
everyone complains that he's such a hard professor. he's really not. he's very nice and willing to help anyone understand the material. that said, you actually have to study (meaning, read the book and go to class) and you have to try. if you study the material and ask for help when needed, you'll get an A. he's really brilliant.
he is the worst prof EVER! he teaches straight from the textbook. half the time in class i was asleep. hes really smart yet cant teach for his life. no assignments at all, just READ and exams. do not take this class if your not willing to work hard and study for a good grade.
He is VERY boring;& just LECTURES Straight from the TEXTBOOK. the book is pretty interesting BUT the chapters are JUST TOO LONG though. He's alittle sarcastic when you ask a question in class. he doesnt alway check attendance. he DOESNT ANSWER EMAILS EVER. his EXAMS are very hard. YOU HAVE TO READ THE BOOK. his PPT Slides arent very understandin.
one word don't take him. He is a hard greater, take someone else.. the readings are long. His mid-term and final are in multiple answer form.
It's a hard class due to lots of information, but he's readily available to answer questions, and lets you find out what you got wrong on tests, which is helpful as well. It think people who don't like his teaching style are used to younger professors, but I find him fairly interesting and nice to listen to. Teaches from book-tests from book!
Very smart professor but sucks at teaching. Tests have random definitions (you wont know what words u have to define until you get the exam) picked from FOUR chapters. If you like factors of randomness thrown into your exams and reading super long chapters every night like you have nothing else to do, then by all means take this guy.
Abramov is a very intelligent professor and does a great job of answering all questions with clarity. However, this is an advanced course- expect it to be difficult!! The exams and quizzes are fair but will be impossible if you don't read the assigned chapters. You must take notes and attend lecture. Helps if you have some background in biology.
I loved him! It was NOT an easy class, but if you needed extra explanations, or had a problem with test results, he made the time for you. He loves his job, and is very knowlegeable.
Things to know: 1. He gives you the slides for the class but PLEASE do not think you can study off those alone. 2. Read the textbook; it was my saving grace in this class. 3. Start studying a week in advance, he gives you the essay questions (worth 60/100 points). You can never write too much on the essays. I got an A but it didn't come easily.
While he is very knowledgable in his field, this guy taught the introductory level course at a level far too difficult. What's worse is that he didn't specify what the test would be on but just insisted that you read the book page to page. Also, he thinks he is wittier than he really is and is quite condescending. Avoid him!
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! he gave way to much reading and the tests were on things you don't learn in class because there is TOO MUCH INFO! 17 chapters on his final!
Very hard class no review whatsoever. Must know all material covered in text book in order to receive good grades.
The material isn't easy. He does his best to explain things and gives you printed slides. You have to read the book to do well. I needed additional help and he was available to me after class time. Didn't like my midterm grade and was allowed to take an alternate test after. He really wants to see students do well. Do your part and he will help.
He really knows what he is talking about but, his lessons are more than boring, his review is going back through the slides we've already seen, and there isn't any new information he gives you in review. His tests are extremely hard and specific. Great man. Terrible professor.
Abramov was great! He was easy to understand, his lectures were easy to keep up with, and he's hilarious. Read the chapter before class and you'll do great. Only 3 tests, no midterm, and they are multiple choice, 50 questions. Taking the final on Monday, fairly confident. READ the chapters (textbooks in the reserves), and participate, you'll pass!
If you want to be happy. Then don't take him. He's a nice man, but it's basically an independent-study. His tests weren't even in English.
Professor Abramov, where do I even begin. His notes are confusing and his tests are extremely hard. He comes into class, talks for 75 minutes and then you leave and have to read the textbook front to back. The final was 15 chapters. He should retire, expect to self teach yourself everything. He is too difficult for an introduction course.
His lectures are great. He puts up detailed lecture notes on Blackboard. He does his best to help the students. Try to read the textbook (read the summary section at least). There are 3 exams and a final; all of which are multiple choices.
Horrible! Always late to class and lectures are not clear at all.
If you dont have the best memory and have issues professors who say thats the text book now go read it DO NOT TAKE HIM. I have no doubt that he was once a good professor(just look at the amount journals he has published over the past decades and how his reviews have gotten worse over time) Long story short if you take him be ready to read for hours
Great guy, not so great lecturer.
READ THIS VERY CAREFULLY. DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND TAKE ANOTHER PSYCH CLASS BC HE'S THE ONLY ONE THAT GIVES 3600. HIS LECTURES HAVE EXCESSIVE INFORMATION AND ITS HARD TO KEEP UP IN CLASS . BEWARE OF CUMULATIVE FINAL, ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO PASS. LIKE I SAID, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT TAKE HIM, IM WARNING YOU. YOUR GPA DIES.
Overall he's an average professor. Gives good explanations. Requires a lot of textbook reading because his lectures are very vague. Tests are pretty tough but if you read the textbook you will pass.
His exams are incredibly specific and unless you start studying 2 weeks before the exam, do not expect higher than a 70 on any of his tests. I rewrote the entire textbook and went to the learning center to review for his class. I ended up getting an A but I worked for it. He knows his exams are hard though so he's a bit more lenient with the gradin
Its very clear that he's knowledgeable about the subject but he's terrible at conveying that knowledge to his students. Lectures are unclear, tests are tricky, his notes are useless for studying and overall, do not recommend.
He reads his slides and posts them on cuny blackboard. He gets his slides from the textbook but, do not miss his class (especially first years) it really makes a difference going to his class no matter how boring he is.
He is very knowledgeable in this subject, however he has a hard time passing that on to his students. I am currently sitting in this class completely lost :(
Long, long lectures....
Your grade is divided into 3 tests and 1 final exam. All are based on the textbook, yet lectures are just simplified coverage of the textbook. If you aren't actively reading the textbook the whole semester (like I did), you'll have a very tough time with the tests. Very knowledgeable, but should be avoided for the sake of your GPA.
Long lectures, funny, no homework
great professor
THIS PROFESSOR IS TERRIBLE. TERRIBLE. TERRIBLE. TERRIBLE. AVOID AT ALL COSTS, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. THIS PROFESSOR GIVES 3 EXAMS WHICH ARE MULTIPLE CHOICE BUT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. EXTREMELY. IT GETS BETTER THOUGH... THE FINAL IS 100 MULTIPLE QUESTIONS WHICH IS CUMULATIVE FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE SEMESTER. SAVE YOUR GPA, TAKE THIS WITH SOMEONE ELSE
THIS PROFESSOR IS TERRIBLE. TERRIBLE. TERRIBLE. AVOID AT ALL COSTS, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. THIS PROFESSOR GIVES 3 EXAMS WHICH ARE MULTIPLE CHOICE BUT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. EXTREMELY. IT GETS BETTER THOUGH... THE FINAL IS 100 MC QUESTIONS WHICH IS CUMULATIVE FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE SEMESTER. SAVE YOUR GPA, TAKE THIS WITH SOMEONE ELSE!!!
not bad as long as you study, but there is easier professors .
His tests are so detailed. and its mostly on textbook things. you dont have to go to lecture if you read the textbook. His test hadthings that we didnt cover in class, from the textbook. 4 tests so easy grading criteria. no hw or quizzes. he was nice about how many chpts on each test but hes really smart so he wants everyone else to be too.
Classes are lecture heavy and attendance is done by checking your name on a sheet so you can get someone to do it for you. Four tests in total so fail more than two you wont pass. Tests are long and heavily detailed.
His lectures are long and majority of the questions on his test are not based on the notes he gives. So you have to read the textbook. Get ready to read every single detail. Sometimes even unnecessary information like the "average words a person learns everyday" will be on the test. if 80 hurts your GPA don't take him.
can totally get away with skipping class. is you get someone to check off your name he wont even notice. tests are hard! I took notes every class and studied hard and average on tests was 70's even though I knew the information. there are 3 tests and the final so you need to do well on them because that is your whole grade. lectures are very boring
I hated this class ! Im a Psych Major and hes just the worst avoid him . Lectures are boring only 4 test and thats what your grade is based on ! Only good thing is he curves so you have a chance at passing . Good Luck. I only Passed cause I went and got extra help.
While it is clear he is an extremely intelligent man, he does not convey his lessons well enough to his class. I took this class as a freshman, and if you do not read the textbook extensively and study directly from the book, you will not pass his exams. He also does not allow you to keep the exams after they've been graded, only the scantron.
He is very smart however he just teaches through lectures. He gives you all the slides but without the expensive textbook you probably wont pass his tests. He is very text heavy and you have to listen to his examples if you want to understand the texts on the slides more easier. There is a lot of info to process in this class.
A lot of these reviews steer people away from his class but he is a great professor. If you ask about any topic he will sit and explain it until you get it. The syllabus says time will have to be dedicated to reading the textbook , I dont understand why people are upset. Another note, Ive managed to pass by just reading the summaries.
Professor Abramov is a great Professor and his class is generally easy to pass. all the tests are based on the textbook so it's important to make a schedule to get the reading done in a timely manner. he also gives great feedback on the essays and gives you a chance to redeem yourself.
I have only taken this Professor during the pandemic online class so my opinion is solely based on that. The Professor cannot do an online class, he just give essays and tests on Microsoft word. It evident he is knowledgeable in neuroscience but he cannot really teach it. The work is very hard and he is a tough grader. Ps. He offers no extra credit
I took this class with online learning, I would say that it is hard to pay attention in class. Reading the textbook was what helped me the most, reading the textbook is mandatory. This professor does not give extra credit so I think if I was going to take this class in person it would be so much harder. In order to get a good grade you must study.
Professor Abramov during the Fall online semester was gracious, understanding, and gave us more than enough time to complete assignments. He gave a useful note packet word doc for the whole semester and provided a narrated PowerPoint for 7 chapters. Exams (3) with one week to do and 2 Essays. The professor took some time to post the powerpoints.
He is extremely kind and understanding. I sent him an email asking for an extension on my final due to mental health. He gave me all the time I needed without penalty and even gave me some pointers to assist pulling through. He is genuinely sweet and clearly cares about his work and students.
Professor Abramov is inspirational and very smart. He has a huge sense of general knowledge and his views on things are enlightening. He is caring towards the needs of the students and teaches at a slow and steady pace, reviewing material before exams, and his exams are mc and pretty straight forward. Admirable person and teacher.
Dr. A is very knowledgeable on this topic and he seems like he wants us to do well, but his execution at this online class was not good. To start off, you get only 2 quizzes that are worth 50% of your grade, one essay, and a 100 question final. He did not record any lectures. He just gave us PowerPoint slides and a verbatim script of what he'd say.
Such an easy class. Some people might dislike only being graded on 4 things, but they were easy and I didn't mind.
Prof Abramov is an intelligent Prof. He is thorough but a bit over the top when it comes to into to Psychology. He really dives deeply into many topics that can be very tough, so do not think that because it is an intro class that it will be easy, it is not. Flexible on when you can submit your quizes and tests, does not take off points for late.
take him but the you will be teaching yourself. he only taught half of the semester and then we had a sub professor. however, during his teaching time the lectures were never clear also the entire semester we only did three exams and one paper because the professor would not upload assignments.
