He's an awesome professor! Down to earth, reallyyy funny, and gets sraight to the point. Wether you like theatre or not, he makes it interesting for you to learn, and makes you feel comfortable. Not a lot of work involved, reading is required, and you have to critique plays, take his class! It's worth it!
Great Teacher!!! His class is excellent. Extremely funny man. Little work is required for his class. Only 3 critiques of plays. Reading is required but it's not bad. His notes are basically what will be on the tests which are only the midterm and the final!!! No weekly quizzes or W/E. Awesome class. Take it!!! :D
This is an AWESOME TEACHER!!! I highly recommend taking this class. He helps you out a lot and is funny. Don't goof off or insult the subject, there's just no point in doing so. This is one of the last good professors and a fairly easy A.
IZZY ROCKSSS!
Great sense of humor, definitely an actor. Very friendly but takes his teaching seriously. He's awesome!
He's such a hottie! It's a shame he's married! Overall, GREAT PROFESSOR! You wont regret taking the class.

this guy is so incredibly good looking. He is an amazing teacher with a great sense of humor, and has some great teaching methods. Dont miss this class!
ok so he's ok looking but grades super unfairly. i mean it's a intro to acting class for BEGINNERS but nless if you do everything perfect, it is impossible to get an a.
One of the greatest professors I have ever had. With a great sense of humor, this guy makes this class fun. Just make sure to take him and your assignments seriously and you'll do fine.
Very easy very fun though if you were a theater major you should not take this class because it is not a intro for majors. its for non-majors
Hes a super great teacher. Dont take this if ur a theater major class will seem boring until u actually get to perform. Its a beginners type class. But you'll meet great people. He does some pretty cool improve. I loved his class. And hes fair in grading. Dont think u can slack off because u have to perform(a good amount.) He's a great professor.
Here's the secret to his class: Show interest, attempt to work on the notes he gives you, and do the acting assignments. You don't have to give him Oscar material. He's ultra helpful and his notes are superb!!! Awesome professor!! Highly recommended!!
Awesome professor!! If you show the effort and try in his class you are guaranteed an A... very helpful and knows his material.
What an awesome man. He is seriously very funny and extremely helpful. If you try you will definately get an a good grade. Plus you the class in general is great and interesting.
Very nice guy. Really knows a lot about acting and is a great coach! Take him!
I HAD GARCIA ALL 4 YEARS OF HIGH SCHOOL. HES NOT ONLY AN AWESOME TEACHER BUT HES A GREAT FRIEND TOO (AS GAY AS THAT SOUNDS LOL) YOU DONT HAVE TO BE AN AMAZING ACTOR AS LONG AS YOU TRY. FUNNY, SWEET, YEA KIND OF CRAZY AT TIMES BUT I STILL LOVE HIM. BUT IF YOU WANT TO DO ACTING AS A CAREER HE IS TOTALLY GOING TO DISCOURAGE YOU! LOL
One of my greatest teachers EVER. The equivalent of my obi wan kenobi. Def take if you can.
Israel loves his stuff. He is beyond helpful, you can tell hes got stuff on his mind and things to do but he will help you no matter what and whenever. I have not met a kinder proffessor. He is serious about his class though, so take it seriously as well but you are guaranteed to have fun. The man is very social and into the arts, I wasnt but he go
Israel is a fantastic teacher. The class requires some work, but it's completely worth it. I would recommend this class to anyone with an interest in acting.
Professor Garcia is so nice, so funny, and so helpful. Honestly, one of the most fun classes at FIU. He isn't like one of this teachers who teaches a classes where it is a class for non-majors and they make it super difficult, He is different because he knows it is a non-major class and he just wants you to have fun with it, easy A folks.
My favorite class thus far! The class is an easy A as long as you go to class and do the work, which never feels like a chore. Israel really knows and loves what he is teaching and it completely shows. I'd recommend this class to anyone. It's a wonderful experience, wheteher you need another class or are interested in acting/
I think he does grade kind of unfairly. He is very nice and very good looking. lol. But, he plays favorites. If you don't get on his favorites list, you probably end up with a high passing grade, but not an A, like everyone else. Attendance is mandatory, so make sure to get to class on time every day
Probably one of the best professors I have had in FIU. He is very charismatic and helpful. Only thing is, he talks too much sometimes, but other than that, he is excellent and very fun. I learned a tremendous amount. His class is the reason I decide to become a theatre major :)
Kept me interested the entire semester. He was helpful, charismatic, realistic. Knows his stuff most definitely. The assignments were a lot of fun. Theatre trips are a big part of the class.
First off: Professor if your'e reading this, I TOLD you I'd write a review about you. Secondly: Amazing professor, super nice, really chill, and extremely helpful. He'll tell you exactly what he wants and expects from you, making this class easy to get an A if you listen to him. Very funny, extremely charismatic. Deserves a chili pepper. Awesome.
He is a great teacher !!!!!!!!!!!! I loved his class. Easy A if you work for it. I did and got an A. He loves his stuff and knows whats he's talking about. He is a great teacher. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. I had him for almost 4 hours for the summer and there was never a dull moment. You do have to write reviews but he goes through what he expects thoroughly. I wish I could take this class again! LOVE Izzy!
Definitely one of the better professors at FIU. He is a very funny, very outgoing professor who definitely knows what he is talking about. We had to watch at least 3 plays and write critiques on them and the other plays we saw were extra credit. He is pretty lenient and a genuinely kind and easy going man!
Favorite teacher! He is super helpful and a genuinely really nice person. Made the class super interesting and I left knowing and wanting to learn more! I really liked him and recommend him to everyone!!
I absolutely adore this class. He is such a helpful and energetic professor. Just take feedback and try your best and you'll be fine.
Izzy is freakin great. Awesome teacher, person, clown, ect. Took this class to satisfy art credit and don't regret at all. He works with you and is flexible. This was such a fun class and helps you get out of your comfort zone, but in a good way. Do your part and you'll be good.
Great teacher, class is not an easy A, but if you follow his feedback, you'll get a good grade. The assignments are fun, the class overall is very fun and he's a very good teacher.
He's very funny and loves what he does. He gives awesome feed back and knows what he's talking about. He understands that not all people are actors so grading goes well with him. Be ready to lose shyness because the whole class is about acting. No lectures. If you need anything he's there to help.
He's honestly one of the sweetest professors I've met. He really enjoys getting to know his students, so you'll feel comfortable around him. The course and advice that he's given honestly helped me so improve so much. I was given so many compliments on my progress. As long as your dedicated, you'll do well. He wants his students to pass with an A.
I loved Izzy's class. He's a great professor and the class is very interesting. You don't have to have any experience in acting to pass. Attendance is mandatory but the class was great and I didn't dread having to go to class.
Says "average joe"too much. Other than that, great professor.
This class was amazing! I loved it, I kind of wish I took it for a regular semester instead of just a summer. Izzy is a phenomenal, you'll love him. He'll give you great feedback and you don't have to be an actor to really appreciate and love this class. Honestly one of the best classes I've taken at FIU.
Mr. Garcia was so hilarious. I remember doing a play in his class and it was awesome. The plays were amazing to watch. There's a lot of notes to write from in his lectures and a couple of essays to do on the play you watched. He is there for all of his teachers and willing to give you any feedback you need.
First off He is HOT ASF!! Like very attractive build and face and charismatic personality;he is an excellent acting coach. He gives really valuable and specific tips and tricks for acting. The book is annoying bc we only use it twice towards the end if your partner has one you don't need it(thats what I did). Watching 1 play is required but its fun
hot i love him soooo much. he's my father. not literally. but i'm open to adoption. he's a great professor. wish he wasnt an adjunct professor so i could take his courses all the time. super great feedback. really made me a better actor.
He's so funny and if you didn't do well on a test he would provide you extra credit when it comes to doing papers for a play in Theatre. He cracks me up literally.
This man is so hilarious. Study for tests, attend theatre plays and then write about the play. If you don't understand what is expected when it comes to writing papers about the play, he will explain it to you clearly. Even if you don't do well in his tests, you can still pass his class because he provides extra credit.
Israel rocks. Assignments are a monologue written by you based off of a real life experience, an improv as a character who is opposite from you, a scene with a vague script which you bring to life with a partner, a few simple writing assignments, and two 2 person scenes. There is a LOT of extra credit opportunities, and the class is already easy.
Super funny, he looks like he loves his job. Take notes on his lectures and its easy to pay attention. One acting group assignment is not hard just do your best and you'll pass. Tests are not difficult just pay attention to the lectures. Highly recomend anyone take this class.
He's amazing. He's a cool professor that is super nice and funny. Took him during the summer and his class is easy and interesting. You don't really need the book if you pay attention to his lectures. The only annoying this is having to see three plays and write an essay on each one but the plays are interesting so not bad, I promise. Take him!
Funny, clear lectures. Cares about his students and their grades. Tests are super easy.
Great feedback, grades fairly. I took his class with previous experience in with acting, but I still felt as if I left his class having learned something. He offers a new perspective on things, and is very knowledgeable. I say difficulty is average, because you HAVE to put in the effort, not exactly an easy A. But take him, you won't regret it!
The class was super fun to take. We only had 3 big tests and he gave us a week to prepare for the scenes. He was super understanding and caring towards his students. His lectures were hilarious and occasionally inspiring. I would definitely reccommend!
I took this teacher for THE 2000 and he is great. He makes the class fun. Mostly lectures, textbook optional, few assignments. I recommend taking a class taught by him 100%
This dude is wicked awesome. Super hilarious, fun to work with, very insightful in his craft, your work, life, and anything relating to the course. I took this in the summer, bonded with my classmates, and had so much fun. Definitely learned a lot thanks to him and his immense talent in Theatre. Very understanding with students, doesn't bite at all
Hands down one of the best professors Ive had. His lectures are very entertaining and hes hilarious 10/10
Mr. Garcias class was so much fun to be apart of. He gives little to no work. The only thing is that you have to watch plays outside of class. You have to then complete questionnaires which are not hard at all. Along with the questionnaire you have to write one paper on a play. He is a great teacher and is hilarious. 10/10 recommend!!
Garcia is amazing !
Garcia is one of the best professors I've ever had. He's hilarious, witty, and you never get bored in his class. The exams are really straightforward, so as long as you pay attention and take notes you should be okay.
He is a solid choice for a teacher! If you pay attention in class you'll definitely get an A in the test. He barely gives assignments but if you put some effort you'll definitely get an A. He is a SUPER CHILL teacher!
Professor Izzy is so much fun! TAKE HIM!!! you will however, have to go see three plays, but two of them are at FIU (its theatre appreciation people you have to see plays to appreciate them) but he is hilarious and his tests are fairly easy. the powerpoint are posted online in canvas and are accessible during test. Show up, take notes and easy A
He is a really nice professor. Very passionate about Theatre. Thing is the class does require you to spend more money because you have to attend plays and write about them. He will definitely facilitate the search and give you tips on how to find cheap plays, but still, the added expense is not shown in the class description. Just so you know.
Great Professor!!! If you follow what he tells you too you will pass.
he was super chill and really passionate about the subject, which makes you more interested.
I absolutely love my class with Professor Garcia, though he'll let you call him "Iggy." I think the best thing about him is that he's passionate and actually cares about the subject, which makes you enjoy it too. He's really nice, and you'll have to see about two-three plays throughout the semester. Just take this course if you like acting!
I LOVEEEEE THIS GUY! one of the best classes and professors i have ever had. i loved that i was able to see plays too...i really got too appreciate theatre. hes so passionate about the topic and you will pass as long as you do the assignments your best . simple.
This man makes the class so much fun cause hes such a character. I chose his class later in the day even tho I didnt want one but I heard good things about him and thank god I did. Take him and you wont regret it
He is hilarious, you won't regret taking his class. Three tests, read the powerpoint and you'll get an A. You have to go to three plays so that can be a little pricey.
Izzy is hilarious!! He teaches by acting out examples and it's very helpful. Fair grader with performances and he gives very detailed feedback. If you don't know how to act or what to do, go to him and he will really help you and give you tips. I had never acted before and now I feel more confident because of this class. Don't be shy- it's fun!
Professor Garcia was a great professor and provides really good feedback for his students. I took THE 2000 over the summer, and while it wasn't an easy A, professor Garcia did a phenomenal job at facilitating the learning of this class(due to covid-19). I would take a class with him again in the future.
I had him as a virtual class due to covid. He cares about what he teaches. you can tell that he is fascinated about it & can go hours talking about it. Its not a hard class, but you do have to put in effort to pass. You must do all the work assigned. Everything in the tests are in the powerpoints. I suggest you take him for this class. It was fun.
Super fun lectures, a great professor for freshman!
I took him for summer term remotely, we had zoom calls twice a week for two and half hours just going over the powerpoints and any general questions, discussion posts twice a week, two formal essays for a play, one informal essay of a play reading, three multiple-choice tests, Be very SPECIFIC in your work, or you won't get an A on the assignment.
Do not be fooled by the A. This man is tough with the tests and grading papers (if you're confident in your writing dw) for the tests use common sense and powerpoints he provides.
This guy would trick you in the tests, so the A is nearly impossible, almost everybody gets a B.
Tests are tough but open note, so as long as youre prepared you should het an easy A or B
As a professor he is amazing but if you are not into theater don't take this class. Pay attention to his lectures and you will pass. His only grades are the tests and a paper that you will need to write on a play of your choice. Again he's a great professor but if you are not interested in learning about theatre do not take it.
Izzy was an above average teacher for Theater Appreciation. For Summer B, there were only six (6) assignments. Three tests, which were all open notes, A questionnaire, and two critiques. Pay attention to his lectures as he will gives hints to questions on the tests, which most of the answers come straight from the ppts.
He was amazing. Super nice and very easy going. Very enthusiastic teacher and the assignments were not hard, we had to make some of our monologues which was fun. I personally enjoyed it all
this professor is top tier of the professors in fiu. his energy and presence in the room just allows the students to be engaged and participating. even with the class being three hours long not once did he loose his energy or passion for what he is teaching. AMAZING TEACHER!!
Iggy's endurance is unmatched. He teaches for three hours straight with the same energy making it impossible for you not to be engaged. The class itself is really interest. I have a new respect for theater and see it in a completely different way now. After taking this class, trust me you'll want to go see a play.
I would definitely consider this professor amongst one of the top professors of this university, his passion and love for theater really shows and makes you eager to learn. This is coming from someone who isn't an arts major, if you actually open you're mind to it you will learn a lot with this professor.
Harsh grader.Tests are large part of final grade study alot from content-heavy PowerPoints.Writing assignments had to be indepth analyses of play, and I tried my best, but his expectations were too high for just an intro to theatre appreciation.First time taking a theatre class ever, and this class killed my interest in the subject. Not an easy A class
Professor Garcia is an amazing professor! He actually cares about our education and bring his best to every class.
My favorite professor that I've come across at FIU. He puts an incredible amount of energy and style into all of his lectures and he is clearly passionate about the subject. While he can be a bit of a picky grader he gives clear instructions and feedback on all his work and grades promptly. Take this class, you won't regret it!
Two words. HILARIOUS and AMAZING. I cannot emphasize how passionate this guy is about theatre. I love Theatre more because of him. I would take his class 100x over. Yes, you have to write a lot, but he's there to help any time. He truly knows what he's talking about. If you love theatre/culture, no doubt, take Izzy's class.
Professor Garcia really is a joy to have. Makes lectures bearable and entertaining. Goes into detail about the topics, uses class participation to create visuals and ease understanding. If you listen and ask questions, the 3 writing assignments given are simple and straightforward (took Summer B term). Very understanding too. Would take again 100%
honestly he's not too bad very long lectures 3.5 hours long but you don't need to pay attention to get an A.
AMAZING! He always interacts with his students to make the lectures more fun. I will admit that the lectures are a bit long with a lot of information and the tests he gives are tricky because of the way they're worded but nonetheless, he loves his students and kept me interested in the subject.
This teacher is super sweet and caring. His lectures are super important so take a lot of notes and listen carefully to details and test questions. His test are detail oriented and make or break your grade in the class. This teacher is always trying to help you!
Izzie is one of the most understanding professors i have ever had. He has such an enthusiastic and comedic character. The class consisted of 3 tests, 3 essay like assignments, and a group project. It was very easy. His lectures are long and can be exhausting but you need to listen to them! All of his tests are based on what he says!
I took this class in the summer and it was great. The class was very long but the material was not difficult and the questions on the quizzes were all covered in class lectures and PowerPoints.
His charisma and passion for the subject motivate you to pay attention even if you are not the biggest fan of theater.
He uses PowerPoint to teach lectures but includes video clips of musicals and plays to help him understand the material. There were weekly quizzes that were taken outside of class time, and there was a final project to review a play written in another class rather than a final exam.
If you're thinking about taking Izzy Garcia, I strongly suggest you do! I just took his theatre appreciation class this past summer semester and I have never enjoyed a class more in my life. Each night he made us laugh, brought a lot of life to his lectures, and made me genuinely enjoy what we were learning. Each of his side stories were the best!
IZZY! An incredible professor, and incredible class. So engaging, funny, and you can tell he is very passionate about his craft. Would retake this class in a heartbeat.
Professor Garcia was very funny and made the class as engaging as possible. The class was taught through PowerPoints + lectures to go with them, occasionally watching plays and shows. There are two small group projects (you are allowed to work individually) and the amount of work is lower than average (for 6 week summer session).
Very funny teacher. We had very few assignments throughout the semester and they were all simple. We usually had a test/quiz every week but he would give you at least three days to complete it and they were all open note. Take notes from the lectures!! If not you will not pass. Watch a live play and write a critique (largest portion of your grade)
I found his class to be very helpful. Beware when he says " test question" and make sure to write notes down. Tests are open note but you have to focus. If you try you have nothing to worry about. Besides that, he is funny and really engaging. I look forward to hopefully taking his class again.
Genuinely not a horrible class at all. I'm a very lazy human being and I somehow made it through.
Coming from someone who doesn't like theatre, take him. He talks alot in his lecture but tries to keep you engaged. He comes with the same energy every class it's incredible. His tests are a little tricky but not too hard. He is a little bit picky with writing assignments. Also, he's HILARIOUS. Take him you won't regret it.
Proffesor Izzy is an amazing teacher, he loves talking in lectures and it can get boring at times but it is an amazing teacher for this subject, Overall, Final is a Critique of a Live Play which in an amazing experience if you go with friends and have 3 Open Book test that you take through out the course. Amazing teacher
As someone who wasn't very fond of theater, I believe I came out of this course having a genuine interest on the art form. The class is very straightforward, and all the test are open book. At the end, a critique of a live play needs to be submitted, but he isn't a very tough grader. Overall a very passionate professor, would definitely recommend.
HE'S THE BEST!!! Izzy is single-handedly the best professor I have had so far. He's super full of life and character, hilarious, and understanding. He always made the class engaging if it wasn't already entertaining. He's genuinely a good actor and gives pretty good advice and critiques to help you improve.
His intro class is honestly one of the best. He is super understanding of people who have never acted before, and there is plenty to learn. The workload is not a lot and is simple, but be prepared to memorize lines and monologues. You get about four days to a week's notice. 2 writing assignments in total. Great teacher and always one email away.
If you're looking for an easy class to meet the humanities requirement, this isn't the class for you. He spoke for all three hours each class and graded only 8 assignments the whole semester. If you get a bad grade on one of them, it's over for you. Izzy was a fun guy and we got to watch some plays though, so I think I would take this class again.
Prof Garcia keeps the class engaging and funny. Quizzes and assignments are manageable, but take notes in lectures - they're key. unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for test prep!
Great intro class to take as a freshman to meet your humanities req!!! Izzi is funny and very engaging! The lectures are pretty lengthy (but he lets you out early sometimes). There are only three tests, open book (god bless). For extra credit, you can go see another play and critique it! 10/10 would recommend.
attendance is mandatory b/c quizzes are on in class lectures & plays, theres a response critique to one play and a final critique assignment, along with an extra credit critique. see a play or 2 before the last week so you have time. takes late assignments with point reduction
He is a very nice professor, but the course was a bit tough for me. I'm not super analytical and that's what a big portion of the grade is: analyzing plays. I got an A instead of an A- though because of the extra credit opportunity he provided (BLESS), but he is funny, his lectures were interesting, and he let us out early a good amount of times.
Great teacher. If you have the option of taking him I definitely would. He has a true passion for theatre and all of his lectures have so much energy in them. The course is honestly very manageable. Only downside is that the lectures do get a little bit boring and extended but for a summer term it wasn't terrible. Would take again
As long as you pay attention to the lectures like 50% of the time and are an active listener you'll pass. He's hilarious and makes the class interesting. HOWEVER do not take this class in a short semester. I had this class from 1:30-4:50 and sometimes its so much information you want to scoop your eyeballs out by 3:30. Great guy tho
He's is passionate about theatre and you can tell he loves it, hes funny and an easy grader, as long as you remember your lines your good, hes a very good explainer, if you have social anxiety dont take this, you will be performing in front of the class, hes lenient and super sweet, and makes you feel comfortable, I would definitely take again.
