Super super nice instructor! (Don't call him professor, he doesn't like that term) Funny, laid-back, easy to talk to, friendly, responds quick when I send him emails, readings arent too difficult. Overall, awesome instructor! If you're gonna take 101/102, enroll in his class!

Great teacher! I took him for 101 and couldnt imagine taking 102 without him. I learned a lot in his class and he was a huge help. Definatly take his class for your english requirements!

He is a fantastic teacher. He makes you really think about the material you are reading, but will help walk you through the interpretation. He is very accessible in-person and over the phone. I highly recommend taking his classes! You must do the work though. If you don't, you will have problems.

Awesome prof!!! Let's you rewrite all of the papers except the final paper. Very lenient grader and very fair as well. Awesome teaching style, keeps u interested throughout the class and you definitely learn a lot. Take him !!!

Amazing teacher. I honestly have never had anyone like him before. He truly wants you to do well, and he is extremely approachable and will answer any questions while in class or after class. So down to earth and an all around great guy!

Itai is the man. Best English Professor by far! Never a dull moment, and always interesting. Itai challenges you but in the end it is all worth it. Highly recommend, you will not regret it!

Sometimes we got off topic for a whole class period.We used the same material for a lot of assignments and they were boring.He is very helpful if you meet with him for revisions (which are allowed on all but the final paper)!Cool guy,but sometimes he gets annoying;he wants more explanation all the time even if it really isn't necessary. Easy class.

Loved Halevi's classes. Extremely helpful with the assigned papers, and he allows one rewrite to try and get a better grade per paper. Very smart, and loves to talk about the world news. He is in a band, funny, and tells the truth, even if it hurts. He doesn't try to be mean, so if he sounds it, don't take it personally.

Itai enhanced my writing tremendously and his class is just a blast! One of the best professors I have ever had. I highly suggest taking a class with him, but don't take it lightly.

My favorite professor

Halevi was my favorite professor this semester! He makes the class discussions really interesting and relevant to our writing assignments. Definitely take a class with him because my writing improved tremendously!

I hated UMB until I took Halevi's class. I sucked at writing until this semester. He's a funny guy that makes a dry subject exciting. Boosts confidence and a great motivator. Very approachable and very down to earth. This class is no walk in the park but you'll enjoy the workload. I would take another class with him in a heartbeat. He's the MAN!!!

One of the best professors I've had so far at UMass Boston! He is very helpful and really cares about his students and he's also really funny which makes class more bearable. Theres only two major essays, the rest is just small assignments. I would definitely recommend taking this class to satisfy your english requirements!

Best professor at UMB, hands down. Beyond teaching you how to write, Halevi teaches life lessons that are hard to find at the University level. Amazing professor and motivator. Down to earth and truly cares for his students.

Professor Halevi's class was by far the most interesting class I took that semester. Really engaging and informative. I know, it's an English class and if you don't love writing English may be a boring and tedious subject. However, Mr Halevi made the class very interesting and he's always willing to take extra time to explain readingshw!

Very good teacher. Not intimidating like some professors, he is easy to talk to and ask for help. Lectures are fun because they can get off topic. Very nice guy, and I learned a lot. Mostly a writing based class.

Itai is really just an amazing professor to have for ENGL 101. Considering how much he cares about your writing as a whole and you as a whole person is genuinely is what a great professor should be about. Take this class with him because he is really awesome! Do not regret taking this class at all.

Funny and Honest, swears quite often but hey it's OK :-) Gives homework every class (usually doesn't give a specific length but do not do the bare minimum) You have to work for your grade and he takes attendance. He (very often) keeps teaching through his designated time period so if you have a class in another building, prepare to be late, a lot.

Professor Halvei is a good teacher. I would definitely recommend! Not a stressful class that will keep you up at night but it is also not an easy class that you will be able to lack off in and expect to catch up quickly. Sometimes he runs over class time but he is funny and will actually make the effort to remember each students name.

As an international student, English is not my first language. where i am from, the academic language is french and it was hard to learn english. Mr Halevi really gave me good feedback on all my papers and especially when he noticed that i was struggling because the french academic's writing is different much different from the american's.

Mr. Halevi was amazing. He clearly explained and discussed the readings and assignments. This man is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Showed alot of effort in his lesson plans.

Best teacher I have ever had. Really amazing, awesome & very intelligent. Cares about our opinions. He really prepared us for everything. Writing became easier & enjoyable. We had a lot of mini essays to write for homework. Some assignments were a lot to read, but the things we read & worked on were very interesting & honest and sparked opinions

Best professor this year so far

Professor Halevi provides an element of leadership that is unmatched by any professor I have ever had. The genuine concern for his students is unequivocal. He will make you work for your grade so do not expect an easy A. What you can expect is that he will prepare you for success in academia and the workforce. A true consummate professional.

He is just amazing, wonderful prof , his teaching style is wonderful he is hilarious you know you would think this would be a typical English class but with tai its a diff class with him ,although the assignments are pretty long, but thats fine he'll help you with any thing any time i would take him again

Fantastic professor who cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Granted this class is a ton of work, but he makes it fun and gives every chance for the student to do well. I can guarantee if you go to class and do the work you will do well. It's reading heavy but the reading was enjoyable. Smart man - big heart. Class runs late haha!

Halevi is an awesome professor! His teaching style is super laid back but you still learn a lot from his lectures. Hands down one of my favorite professors at UMB.

Not your average professor. Does not tell you want to hear or what you're comfortable hearing. Will say what you need to hear. Is not afraid to talk about anything. Firmly believes in the importance of writing and expressing your opinion. Very confident, and very open to discussing anything. I highly recommend this professor. Won't let you down

He was funny and I liked his class. There's no textbook and everything is online. He responds fast.

Hakevi's class was a great challenge, but well worth my time and effort. He is one of the hardest Honors 101 teachers because he really makes you work for the A. He is very big on critical thinking and will challenge you to grow as a writer. There are a lot of assignments so it isn't that hard to get a B, but this was a truly enjoyable class.

He has a lot of charisma and is very bold. Even if I thought my writing was bad I would still get good grades on everything. You are given a sufficient amount of time to complete your work and the lectures are really fun and you only take notes if you see something you feel like you should remember. Really going to miss this class.

He's so down to earth and wants you to share your opinion. Sometimes the class would begin talking about something else and he would go along with it (pros and cons to that) But overall, his assignments are interesting and he lets you really guide the class. You can't slack and expect to pass the class, you really have to work for your grades

Personality as vivid as his green hair, such a down to earth dude. Class is just discussion & laid back, 99% of work is done outside of class (homework almost every night, but manageable). If you put effort into your work, he's an extremely fair grader. My perspective on writing/my writing style improved a lot as a result of this class. THE GOAT

Easily the best English teacher I've ever had. Nice, funny, understanding, flexible, and informative. He's helped me improve my writing and research skills immensely. If you do the work, show up, and listen to what he has to say, you'll do great and learn so much. All around an amazing professor, with pretty amazing green hair!

Itai is nice and helps give contructive feedback. There was three papers and a few reflections. As long as you turn in items on time then this class should be stressful but easy.

Funny, mindful, easygoing. Gets off track easily. Most of the work is done outside the class, and then class is a discussion on usually a reading that was assigned for homework. Do everything by the deadline and it should be a chill class.

Great at facilitating thoughtful, engaging discussions on writing, language, academia, etc. Provided helpful feedback on essays throughout the revision process. Knowledgeable and down to Earth. Highly appreciated him, and he made an 8 am class worth waking up early for.

Halevi obviously cares and is passionate about teaching and it shows in the well thought out assignments and readings. This class gave me tools to make my writing in all my other classes more powerful and effective. Halevi is always available for guidance but tells it like it is. Finally a teacher who treats me like an adult. Memorable class.

Great guy who has an interesting spin on modern education. I truly enjoyed the class discussions we had, and the methods in which we wrote our papers. He pushed our thinking and stressed the importance of us keeping our individuality within our writing.

Easily one of the best professors at UMB. His lectures are interesting and informative, and his class is very manageable. He cares very little about the technical things like grammar which is hard to find in an English professor. He's fair and super helpful if you need anything. Wants to see you succeed! I can not recommend his class enough!

There are few negative reviews of Itai, but IGNORE THE BAD ONES. Best English professor I've had. He's so caring and willing to help if you reach out to him. He's absolutely hilarious and keeps you interested during class. Do the assignments and don't be afraid to ask for help and you should be completely fine! Class isn't "easy" but very doable!

Great class, great professor really gets you engaged with writing as a study and tries to expand your vision of what writing is and how it is different from the way you learned it in high school. He has really helped me with a lot of stuff inside and outside the classroom and just a fun class that as long as you engage with you will do well.

Very new style of writing and expectations so expect a rocky start to the semester. If you really work at it and ask prepared questions in class you can Ace it. Definitely the hardest class I had freshman year as an honors course. Put in the effort though and youll become a way better writer

I've had Halevi for 101 & 102. Most the work is done outside of class, and he gives the necessary feedback to improve on papers. He wants you to succeed in writing not only in his class, but it will surly prepare you for upper level classes. Is truly an inspiration outside of class. Truly cares for you as a person even after you take his class.

Hands down the best professor I've had here so far. I wish I had him for 101, but taking his ENG102 class really helped me become more comfortable with writing essays in college. His class was engaging and the prompts were actually interesting.

Halevi's work is manageable. I am definitely more comfortable with tailoring my work to let my voice break through even more. Before and during this quarantine, he has been very helpful in making himself accessible to students.

Best prof I had so far at UMB. Even taking his class remote, he makes it seem like the class is all in the same room together. Very funny and I learned more about writing in one semester than I did during 4 years of high school.

Professor Halevi is very knowledgable about writing. He's a very chill dude, which I love, because we can talk about anything and it wouldn't feel awkward. Homework is very short and there are only 2 major papers (one of them is a research paper) which isn't at all bad for a writing course. If I could, I would take him again. Highly recommend!!!!

Probably my favorite professor I had this semester. He's so funny, and understands that everyone that is taking Comp 1 is only there because they have to be. The workload is not too bad, and as long as you pay attention to the feedback he gives you on papers, you should do well. He honestly taught me more about writing than I learned in high school

One of the best professors at Umass Boston!

I took an online class with Halevi in fall of 2021 and had a good experience. Online classes are always tricky but I thought he did a good job with recording videos, posting handouts, and staying in touch with students. Even though this was an asynchronous class it felt like I was being taught by a human being and not a robot.

The best teacher, professor, and educator I have met in a long time. He truly does care about all of his students and his goal is to have you succeed. He is very easy to connect with and acts as more like your friend than a professor. His style of teaching is awesome and the feedback/ideas he gives on writing are thoughtful and actually help.

Itai Halevi is my favorite professor I have taken a course with out of both schools I have attended. Before this class, I was not that interested at writing, especially not research writing. He allowed creative freedom and showed me how enjoyable writing can be. He is a fair, inspirational, down-to-earth professor. I wish I could have him again!

He is a very humorous and quirky professor. He is a good professor to go to if you want to start your first semester. His way of teaching is also very unique as he explains everything by drawing out a messy diagram. However, this is the professor for you if you learn better through more honest feedback regardless of how blunt it can be.

After a long day of challenging classes, stepping into Professor Halevi's classroom felt like a fresh breath of air. Not only is Professor Halevi amiable and approachable, but his genuine concern for his students' well-being is truly commendable. Easy A class, you just have to show up and submit the work.

I found myself genuinely enjoying his class. He clearly cares for his students and sets aside time to meet with each student during the final writing assignment to discuss their papers to ensure they are the best they can be. I usually take Gen-Eds online, but in this case, I am glad I made the exception.

my favorite teacher of the semester. 3 papers during the semester and they are relatively easy. he grades pretty easy as well. each paper he discusses with you to improve your grade. assignments leading up to the essays are also pretty easy. he's pretty chill and funny. he is also somewhat lenient about attendance esp. if you email. few readings.

Amazing professor, The class was organized and I enjoyed going to class. The writing was interesting and I never felt stuck because the writing was personal and you can use the word "I" and have your own opinion. There is strict deadlines, the papers were kind of long but you had time to revise and he was a nice grader.
