don't miss a class 'coz once you miss a class you'll be behind. you really need to take a good notes coz they will help you to prepare for the quizzes. there will be four quizzes and one final throughout the semester. they're all essays so be prepared.. overall i will recommend him. i think this is his first time teaching at nova.
His class is easy. He gives out the 2 questions on the quiz about a week in advance and if you read the chapter its easy to write an A paper. He also provides a study guide for each quiz. And if you miss a quiz he lets you make it up.
This is a really good professor. Class is very lively and cracks jokes here and there. Teaches material in a way that people can actually comprehend it. Has 4 quizzes and a final and he gives you the questions beforehand. Take notes, read the text, and you'll get an A!!
He is an awesome teacher! And very sardonically funny.
This prof is awesome! He makes this class interesting and he is hilarious! He gives you 2 questions for the quiz ahead of time, but if you don't attend the classes and take notes you will not do well. The book isn't really necessary - everything comes from his lectures.
Great professor, he makes classes interesting with his humor and straight forward lectures. Most of the information for tests comes from lectures so it?s important not to miss class. Tests consist of two essay questions which are given a few days before the test so you can study. Come to class and study for the tests and you should do fine.
Great teacher! Very knowledgeable. Very funny. Makes subject very interesting. Take good notes and you'll do fine.
He was amazing and his lectures were funny and interesting. Quizzes are based on essay questions and you get them ahead of time, so you can study. Theyre based on lectures so you seriously HAVE to show up, but trust me its worth your time. I had it on a saturday and theres no other class id rather wake up on a saturday for! you HAVE to take HIM!!
Wow what an interesting, fun class. He makes the lectures easy to listen to with his humor and PowerPoint slides. Most of the info on tests comes from lecture notes so you have to come to class each week but he makes it worth it. The tests are 2 in class essay questions but he gives you the questions before so you can study. Take his class!
he is funny. easy A if you are willing to prepare for tests. all you have to do are to take notes and follow his study guide.
Just look at the good scores around here and that pretty much sums him up.
This class was really easy as long as you were willing to prepare for his tests. They consisted of two essays that he would let you prepare for beforehand. You had to follow along, take notes and study them to get an A. He makes the class fun while teaching a subject in which I originally had no interest in. He is helpful and really knows his stuff
This is an easy class if you take good notes and are willing to take a few hours to study the material. You have to come to class, otherwise you are screwed. He is funny and nice so its an 'easy class' to most people.
I hated him in the begining. Hes a prick. He curses like crazy. But he grew on me. Hes funny. He gives you the test before hand.ONLY stupid people don't get an A in his class. Show up to class and listen. Just write it down. And your done.
If you are going to take this class be sure to have good writing skills. Attendance is a must and be sure to take really good notes. Class consist of 4 quizzes and a final. He gives everything you need to know before the quizzes. Great Professor.
Dude is hilarious!
He's hot, lol. But really, if you do his study guides (which ARE the test), you'll get an A. I didn't...which is why I have a B. Fml. But he's nice, interesting. Doesn't offer extra credit, which I wish he did. He's funny too. All the info is from his lectures, and attendance isn't mandatory, but if you wanna ace the class...go to it!
Very intelligent and easy professor. Gives out the test questions in a study guide ahead of time verbatim. Very easy. Textbooks are very interesting normally, but aren't really necessary for passing the class with an A.
He has a great sense of humor and is easy to get along with.He is more than willing to answer questions IF YOU ASK THEM.He is awesome but he is not psychic.Show up to class, do the reading assignments, take good notes and go over the study guide that he gives you and you will get an A. Note: extra credit is not his thing.
He is really HOT!!! Best teacher I have ever had...I took both his classes HUM 101 and HUM 102 and got an A in both. His class is very easy and he's very helpful. If you want to pass Humanities with an A, take his class and make sure you are always present and take good notes. He gives you quizzes ahead of time and there's no way you can fail.
Don't buy the book. The man is hilarious. But if you need something from him and you email him, he will never reply. Tests are based off his lecture. He keeps the topic interesting. He gives out Essay tests. If you're not good at writing you probably will get at most a B. I recommend him over other teachers.
Humorous, intelligent, and realistic professor. Grading is based upon in class written essays. As long as you are able to comprehend historical material, then you should do fine. Does not reply to e-mails consistently, but will help you during his office hours and right after class. Recommend if you want to have a fun learning experience.
Awesome teacher, just pay attention to lectures and you'll do fine
This class was so much fun, because he is the funniest professor i have EVER had. The grade for this class is primarily the tests, which are all essays. If your not good at writting essays you may have some trouble, but even then, he gives you the questions beforehand, so you can prepare.
Dr Castaneda is clearly a master of his art... you would be remiss if you decide on another professor/class. But before you decide in taking his class, bring your "A" game. Grades are based off of tests and they are for the most part, 2 question, 2 part essay format. Take plenty of notes and study verbatim the notes taken and you'll succeed.
Although he seems great at teaching and really funny. But his essays (which is your entire grade), are impossible to score high on.
Excellent teacher. Makes art interesting even to people who aren't into art. Tests are easy, he gives you the essay questions the night before, just answer them before actually taking the test.
BEST PROFESSOR who is walking on this earth!! His lectures were fun and interesting and very unusual - I loved them. Come to every class and don't miss it - the notes you take there will totally help you for the tests. But you will enjoy his lectures and what you're learning, I promise. He is fair, understanding and really loves what he does.GREAT!
Great professor. Very important: Take detailed notes and have impeccable writing skills! 2 essays per test, stick to the details he gave you in lectures; don't buy textbook. Funny and not politically correct in his humor! He's fair and makes the subject bearable - highly recommend taking his class.
No book work all notes taken in class from what hes saying. All tests are also essays questions which he gives before the tests. Everyone fails the first test but grades you on how you improve throughout the semester so don?t be immediate when you fail first test. Wouldn?t take him if not good at hand written essays
He is fun, intelligent and charismatic. I grew so interested in the subject that I am reading about humanities in my break! Take him, he is not hard to get an A and you will love his lectures. I feel much more educated after taking his class
Classes are interesting and good laugh. However the grading isn't, if he doesn't like your writing style, you will fail. I had to retake with another professor.
He is rather nice. He makes the class laugh, although, he does not offer extra credit and he is hard on grading. if you do not write a lot & if you arent good at writing, you will fail. You must give FULL ATTENTION in class, or you will fail, definitely. I recommend another professor. That is a little easier & offers extra credit.
He is hilarious with his jokes and crystal clear on what he's looking for on the test because he gives you the test for you to study with. Somewhat helpful when you ask questions after class. I'd recommend him.
Curses a LOT. Not very helpful when answering questions. Makes students feel inferior and stupid. Take someone else.
He is a great Professor!! He always kept the class interesting but if you are not a good writer do NOT take this class! All of his exams are essays on what you learn in class.
I went to almost every class, took good note, studied ahead of time and got an A. About 4 essay tests, with two questions which he gives beforehand. He explains everything so well, and is so humorous it's hard not to listen to him. And side note, he's super attractive. It was hard to pay attention at times.
He's really funny and makes good jokes regarding to history which make the class interesting. He has 4 quizzes and they're all written papers. Make sure to take crystal clear notes in order to pass the class. Don't bother buying the book because his lectures are very good. Also make sure to write a lot during quizzes to get good grades.
He knows a lot. Just does not know how to teach. He makes lots of jokes. His exams are hard to score high on and that's your grade. Terrible professor. I missed a class and his solution was for me to buy his online textbook for 150$ and it's just him talking to slides in PowerPoint. Not helpful.
I took his 201/202 class back to back and loved it. His teaching style is very contemporary and will draw you in and you forget your learning. The material really interested me, he is very funny and entertaining as well. If you write down every word he says you'll get an easy A. Highly recommended him, one of my favorite professors at nova!
Great teaching method. One of the best lecturers out there. Drills the main points of classes into your head. Funny, real, and thought provoking. I highly recommend taking his class. If you take notes based on his lectures or record his lectures and play them back you will be able to take his tests and pass.
Really hard grader. If you don't go to class you will miss the information. All tests are essay. He doesn't like if you write the information verbatim. He wants you to learn not regurgitate. Knows a lot just not good teacher.
Great professor. Gives you the 2 essay questions beforehand, but PREPARE for them. He's a hard grader, but fair since he gives the questions in advance. GO TO CLASS. His tests are based off of his lectures. If you take good notes and study, you'll get an A. I was 2 pts away from an A, and he bumped up my grade. Just an added bonus that he's hot ;)
He is such a hard grader. Even if you think you wrote down what you studied from the Etext( witch will be your only help in this class) he still wont grade well. Each test is two pages front and back of writing- no notes- no open book. I would halla not take this class again.
Best professor I have ever taken. Will make you LAUGH. He keeps your attention and likes to engage with his students. All you need to do is come to his class and take notes. His quizzes are essays BUT he provides the questions well in advance. Know the material, get an A. Offers retakes. You don't need the textbook, his lecture is available online.
Very intelligent an well read, great sense of humor, fascinating mind, sensitive and broad understanding of the arts.
Very funny!! Makes an otherwise ordinary class into something that's both interesting and amusing. Can be somewhat crude and use offensive language at times, but his style is worth it! Tests are each two questions, essay-style. Focus on overall concepts and key terms. Gives you questions before test so you can make an outline.
Professor Castaneda made the class fun and interesting. He wasn't very good in answering email, he emailed me back 5 days later. I suggest recording his lecture so you can listen because the answers to his essay questions are in the lecture. Come to class, even though it isnt mandatory you will miss vital info that most likely will be in the tests.
I'm pretty sure this man was a hippie in his younger years but it totally stuck with him in his teaching profession. He's very passionate about the subject he teaches and very knowledgeable. Well-rounded about religion and makes it easy for his students to understand him. You must also be a good writer and take notes, not much textbook use.
AWESOME PROFESSOR LOVED HIM KNEW WHAT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT AND KNEW HIS WORK HE ALWAYS SAYS "OKAY" AND LIKES FOR YOU TO PARTICIPATE REALLY DIDN'T USE THE BOOK BUT IT WAS GOOD TO HAVE IT. Very Nice and will answer your questions. Willing to work with you and will make sure that you understand the material took the 6wk Summer Course Had great FUN!!
This class changed the way I look at religion and history. I came away with a rich understanding of culture and a discerning mind. Dr. Castaneda is engaging and equally critical of all beliefs and religions, so as not to discriminate. Highly recommend his class.
Professor Castaneda is amazing. He is super cool, down to earth guy. If you have any question he will help you. He gives you a study guide which has exactly the same material on the test, which consist of Essay answers. If you attend class DO NOT purchase the book. Good notes and attendance will give you a good grade.
No textbook. Comes off as a sort of hippie philosophy professor. His lectures are intriguing, but he likes to listen to himself talk and does not take kindly to anyone who has a different opinion, and is needlessly insensitive.
This guy is kinda hippie, gets straight to the point. The weak at heart should not take his class but if you can deal with the comments of all races, languages and religions hen this is the class for you. He could care less if you attend class but attendance is taken. No texbook needed if youattend class. Take great notes and you will do fine.
This professor is awesome! Class is straight lecture but never dull with his sense of humor and take on life. Tests are essay questions written in class but given a week prior. Simply restate what he lectures and you will do great. He knows his stuff and makes this class a great time. Must take!
Prof C is awesome. He's so down to earth - will let you make up/retake tests til the end of the semester. Class isn't necessarily hard, but he makes you THINK. Essay tests based mostly on lecture (the books are barely needed) are the only grades, but the questions are given in advance. Really funny and interesting guy, never a dull moment in class!
Wouldn't recommend it. Curses all the time and difficult to get good notes with his lectures.
You've got to experience this professor. Very eccentric and fun to listen to. No one like him. He is very chill and a nice break from the more strict professors. I wouldn't necessarily call him brilliant, but he has some interesting things to say. Exams aren't too hard--just answer the questions using his notes and you'll be fine. Enjoy!
He was very unapproachable, passive aggressive, and rambles during lectures. Would give 10 questions quizzes with a five-minute time limit! Nevertheless, if you attend class on time and complete all the quizzes and tests, you will pass.
no help, gets off topic easily, grades as if your in an english course. when everyone was given the paper review to write about him and rate him, almost everyone in the class said they were lost, i don't see how he has such a high rating..
Swears too much and tried too hard to be cool. If you want to waste money hearing someone talk about their opinions and not the class itself, take his classes.
Best prof. Show up to class, be decent at writing, and you'll get an A. You have to take good notes down for the testessays, but he tells you exactly what he wants and keeps you engaged by cursing and using hilarious examples, so it's impossible to fall asleep. Not recommended if you're not good at English and writing since he grades semi-hard.
He's one of the most hilarious profs I ever had!! Sure, he swears, but remember, he's not swearing at the students. Shows up on time, and hands out study guides before every test and quiz. Pretty clear study guides. He makes it a habit to walk back and forth to make sure students understand. Enjoyed his lectures!! He makes the class feel like fun!!
Amazing teacher, the lectures are very entertaining . MUST go to class if you hope to pass.
Take good notes during his lectures. He curses a lot & voices his opinion, but is not one-sided to his remarks. If you are sensitive to that, I suggest a different professor. His powerpoints are ALL pictures & he lectures off that. He engages himself with the class & teaches in an entertaining manner. Quizzes are simple as long as you pay attention
Hes somewhat of a new teacher, and limited to one or two courses he teaches. He is very very friendly and wants you to do well in his class. He will help you homework and classwork with flick of your hand. He tries to take the class through the steps of the application we are using. Very fun and laid back guy. CONs are hes too easy, not challenging
He is a new teacher limited to courses. I took him for ITE 115 and was disappointed how easy it was. Like I want to learn way more than I did. I did take a 8 week summer course however. He is very helpful, kind and patient but not so knowledgeable. Barely used the textworkbook because he had the assignments on Blackboard in class. Easiest A ever.
It's pretty hard to take notes in his class because he often gets way too sarcastic with materials that are way too off topic. Attending his classes will benefit you and he always gives feedback on papers he gives his students to write. 4 major papers, no finals, (in class and out of class) for both hum 201 and 202 class! Easy A! Take him!
He's SO funny. His view of society is a bit cynical and pessimistic, but he conveyed it in a hilarious way. The class was chill and him going over what were on the quizzes and final. Class material was pretty cool too. I'm pretty sure he also cancelled like five out of the twelve class sessions which made things that much easier. Take him! DO IT!
just take him
dont take him if you actually want to learn about art. if you don't come to class, you will fail because there is no textbook, only his lectures. No extra credit, no make updo over quizzes or dropped grades. pretty funny though but never actually talks about art....
hes the best. so funny and clear on everything just take him and apply yourself
What an AWFUL teacher... Tries exceptionally hard to be "the cool teacher". No direct course schedule. Always off topic. Wouldn't even acknowledge you if you try to speak to him one-on-one about homework. His persona is one above community college so why teach it?? Get out of here with your neon Patagonia snotty self. Skip him, you learn NOTHING.
I loved him and hope to take him again from another humanities course! For the honors section he gave us 4 or 5 papers and so you have to come to lecture to do well! He's sarcastic but super funny and doesn't really follow the syllabus, he tells you what to read. He cancels class often so it helps with the readings and we watched a few movies too.
I still haven't decided if Dr. Ivan Casteneda is a savant or a slob - he has moments of brilliance but then moments when he doesnt seem to care. He expects students to write 4 analytical essays on the myths studied in DETAIL. And this is all you will be graded on. Overall, I enjoyed his non PC approach to the class but I still wouldnt take it again
Very funny guy! Has his opinions and does hear what the students think. The class is fairly easy as long as you take notes AND show up to class. The essays are not difficult as long as you explain what you mean instead of regurgitate. Would totally recommend.
Probably the worst professor I ever had. Doesn't properly inform students about when inclass quizzes are or how to properly prepare for them. His expectations for essays is ridiculous. If you have a difficult time with writing then hes pretty much like "Oh well". The way he lectures is so dull that its difficult to really understand the subject.
This guys is amazing. Took it as a 6-week, 4 hour lecture, but didn't notice. He's hilarious for all audiences. Clear cut guidelines. Prepares you for your quizzes. Take him.
Tough grader. Not very approachable. I wrote more papers in 6 weeks than I did in a full semester-long English 111 class, and still only got a C in class. Online lectures are boring, and in class he'll just blurt out the answers he's looking for for his assignments and not give much further insight. Would recommend to avoid at all costs.
One of my favorite professors ever. He is HILARIOUS and teaches very well. He allows us to take notes as we would want, it isn't required but recommended. He really teaches and allows the student to understand. As long as you come to class, pay attention and engage, you are almost guaranteed to do well on the exams. One of my favorite instructors.
Professor Castaneda is very cool professor. He really knows what he talks about in class. You don't need to buy any book because all he does is talking and you take notes. His lectures are very easy to follow and understand because he will constantly repeat the main ideas of the lectures. If you have any question, he will happy to answer for you!
First off, i would like to say professor Castaneda is very good at giving lectures, he always kept the class energized. Second, Professor Castaneda is a terrible grader. On his written exams he says "Write clearly and thoroughly only from information given in class" but what he really means is "read my mind and write down what I'm thinking".
Castaneda is a great lecturer. He's very funny and interesting to listen to. Rather than give a million small assignments, he gives a few quizzes and essays, all of which he helps you prepare for. You're expected to think critically, so don't take this class if you just want straight-forward, basic work.
YOU CANT MAKE UP A CLASS YOU MISSED!!! I promise you will regret taking this Professor. His quizzes, which use a website THAT COSTS MONEY FOR SOME REASON, are based on lectures. Even if his lectures are complete BS, which they are, his quizzes are only based on those lies. No amount of notes you take in his class can help you ace the quizzes.
You must take notes during his lectures or else you won't pass the quizzes. Lectures will make you sleep. Nothing is written in the PowerPoint for you to write down. You literally write down everything he says. Very lazy. A disappointment to the college world.
Terrible. Absolutely terrible. No way to bring your grade up after its down. He is the reason my GPA is messed up. Heed my warning.
Every quizzes and tests are based on his lectures. There is no power points or anything. You must take notes in order to pass the class.
I don't recommend this teacher if you don't do well in note taking. Attending class is a must for all the quizzes, and be warned if he cancels class. 4 quizzes and 1 final is what's graded. He is unclear in his emails so be prepared to do things on your own. Your grade will drop if you are not consistent with work, just a warning before taking him.
He's really funny about what he teaches. There's no power points, only picture so write down everything he says. no make-ups. No homework only 5 online quizzes and 1 final. He offers extra credit, but can sometimes forget he did. So basically if you screw up on the quizzes, you're doomed. He's not bad, he just needs to tweek his teaching style.
Pay attention in class. Coming to class is manadtory because he literally words the "quizzes" exactly how he taught them in class. The textbook is online, where the quizzes and study material will be. Study the terms, and events because he does give a change to boost your grade by extra credit. Funny guy, and open to questions without being rude.
If you miss one class you're basically screwed. He gives quizzes and "extra credit" but once you get one bad grade its really hard to bring it up. He gives out study guides and a list of vocab, but his lecturing style is unprofessional. He's also very off the mark with the subject, art history being viewed more as world religion in his class.
Professor Castaneda can be very insightful, and makes the lectures straight to the point and easy to understand. However, his grading is often not consistent and he communicates poorly to his students via email, or in person. Everyone thought the final was in person, but he did not show up, let alone no apology.
Cool teacher. He gives pop quizzes pretty much every class, so watch the video lectures before class. If you show up and take the quizzes and get more wrong than write you'll end up with over a hundred. Easy A
hes a great teacher, and is VERY clear on what to do in order to pass. 1. come to class because he quizzes off the lectures, and his lessons online. 2. STUDY his video lessons online... He gives extra credit, so that will boost your grade.. I passed with extra points because I came to class, studied, and took notes.. like what you're suppose to do
So I had him for HUM 201 Honors and expected a really sophisticated class but it was a game of thrones class!! I am not joking! I had to apply to be in this class and it was about a TV show! His classes are lecture heavy and tests are written essays, but if you study the material and ask for a study guide it should be easy. He is a tough grader.
Lemme start off with the lectures. You must take notes of what he says and he doesnt write down anything on the boards or powerpoints. Write down everything he says! Your grade depends on it. He is extremely disorganized and is terrible to communicate with, out of class and in person. He honestly doesnt give a hoot about his students. Never again.
Don't get me wrong, he's very funny. He makes an 8 am worth while, however, his tests are kind of stressful because some of the material can be very confusing from what we covered. I highly suggest looking over your notes over and over again before a test and make sure to be a good diligent note taker. His tests are usually online and timed.
Took his 6-week course. Very funny and caring. You must laugh during his lectures. Tests are tricky, it requires you to take notes and listen to his videos. But if you have time to spend on the material, you'll be fine. Don't expect an A, but a B and joy in his class!
Hes a unique/blunt professor but hes actually not that bad. You will be able to pass the class if you just study the study guide he gives/sends out. Also, I took art 100 he made us buy etext($90),if your short on money this isn't the class for you.
Please do not take this class, he has made this class the hardest I have ever taken, his lectures do not correlate to the test, he tries to make the tests as tricky as possible, he even gets snobby when you try to ask him questions, he doesn't lecture from a book, but instead he uses his own text, there were not enough reviews to save me.
In the beginning, everyone failed every quiz and exam. This prof is arrogant and things need to be done his way, but after a while you figure out what type of questions he'll ask and the class becomes a breeze. Try to really pay attention and never second guess yourself on exams.. If it says "none of the above" any time, that's probably the answer!
DONT TAKE HIM!!!DONT TAKE HIM!!!DONT TAKE HIM!!!DONT TAKE HIM!!!DONT TAKE HIM!!!DONT TAKE HIM!!!DONT TAKE HIM!!!DONT TAKE HIM!!!DONT TAKE HIM!!!DONT TAKE HIM!!!DONT TAKE HIM!!!DONT TAKE HIM!!!DONT TAKE HIM!!!DONT TAKE HIM!!!DONT TAKE HIM!!!DONT TAKE HIM!!!DONT TAKE HIM!!!DONT TAKE HIM!!!DONT TAKE HIM!!!DONT TAKE HIM!!!DONT TAKE HIM!!!DONT TAKE HIM!
He has a good sense of humor. However, every time class starts, he just starts writing on the white board, without greeting everyone with a smile. He gives out quizzes at the end of each class. Some questions on his exams are also irrelavant to what he teaches. Toughest guy i ever had. But thank god i dont have to retake him again.
Contrary to what some of my classmates believe, I really like this professor. I like him because he isn't there to beat around the bush or tip toe around everyones feelings, & he made sure everyone was aware of that on the first day. He's there to teach the material and he does it passionately, effectively, and provides substantial study material.
He always gets off topic and gives quizzes end of the class but if you will one word extra in the sentence even it is "is" he gives you Zero.
He's a strict guy who takes the class seriously, but he is absolutely hilarious. Constantly cracks jokes and doesn't beat around the bush when it comes to sensitive topics, he says it how it is. In his own words if you get offended easily like many people nowadays, this professor isn't for you.
he has a nice personality and his classes are interesting and fun but when it comes to tests and grade u hate urself. his tests are weird! he asks questiins about topic we haven't talked about and blames us for not getting the right answer. i would say his exams arent standard. why would anyone ask a question about sth we havent even talked about?
Professor Castaneda is a very interesting human being. He is quite the character. He will teach the material and test you on something completely different. His multiple choice quizzes aren't really multiple choice, instead they are "none of the above" which means you have to write the answer out. There is a quiz everyday, and he may offend you.
Professor Castaneda is one of my favorite teachers at NOVA. Hes very straightforward but at first might seem a bit intimidating. His power-points are all pictures so you have to write down whatever he says. Tests are very easy if you take notes in class. This is an easy A class as long as you pay attention.I recommend him to everyone :).
I took this professor for my 2nd semester and it was still easy even though switched online due to this pandemic it was still easy and still had to show up zoom meetings during class lectures. Pay attention to all the lectures and you'll do great on a tests. The majority of the class makes up tests and quizzes and the grading is a bit rough.
this professor is very rude, smart mouthed, and very unreasonable. If you have questions in class , he will belittle you in any way he can in front of the whole class. I have nothing nice to say about this professor. I HIGHLY recommend you dont take him.
Expect you to know everything before you come to class. Test you on things you wont learn in class, honestly i regret taking his class if i could do over i would please try avoiding his class "you cant make up a test its not fair to the other students" "make sure you guys buy the textbook from the website rather then the book store"
One of the easiest courses. So many students in this class didn't understand Canvas basics, didn't want to pay for the (cheaper than a textbook) online service he uses for readings/some quizzes and tests, and google wrong answers. All you have to do is read and take notes during his lecture and you'll do very well. So much extra credit too.
The professor was good. He seemed like a great guy. On the outside, he can try to give reminders about the cheating policies while taking the in-class quizzes. He is kind to those who has accommodations.
Professor Castaneda's class is easily the best class I've taken at NVCC and I am a CS student. The man is super passionate about his material, he does expect you to put in a little more effort than you usually would in other courses. This is something a lot of students struggled with because they expected to have an A handed to them.
Professor Castaneda is one of the BEST art teachers to take! pay attention to the lecture and read the e-text easy A. Test and quizzes are based on his lecture and e-text, there are multiple quizzes on each chapter, but those build up so worry about failing one you can still get an A. He also answers emails quickly.
One of the best professors I've had at NOVA. An easy class to pass with an A. You have to be present during the lecture and take notes because he usually will take an in-class quiz every class. He gives extra credits for every quiz and test you get 80% and above. He doesn't record his lecture, but there are videos of the lessons on the eText.
Absolutely terrible; the class constantly had to correct him on his own tests. He was rude, dismissive, and infantilized the class. He did not seem like he cared, and he ignored multiple students' accommodations. Not helpful, not caring, very quick to blame the students. Unprofessional.
This was one of the worst classes I've taken. He's very disorganized and doesn't help out much. The quizzes and tests are online with a time limit which makes it hard/impossible to complete them. These are like the only things graded, so be prepared before starting the quiz/test. Text is online and not much to it. He doesn't respond well to emails
The course itself not bad... the professor is what made it difficult. He often made it uncomfortable to ask questions. The worst was his grading system, intellectual points instead of participation. Pretty much if you do poorly on a quiz/test/exam you can get few points or often, points taken away. You can go into negatives which impacts your grade
As long as you follow along in the lectures, the quizzes should be fairly easy. The quizzes are the basis for the tests. The class was all about comprehension. He would go over the quizzes to promote learning from where you went wrong to where you could improve your understanding.
This prof was one of the best Ive ever had! Just follow the lesson plan and youll be fine. It helps to read the chapter before he goes over it in class. In-class quizzes based on comprehension + 1 test and 2 quizzes on another site per lesson. Gives intellectual engagement points (extra credit) for doing well on tests/quizzes. Super easy A
If you want an "A" be prepared to work for it. Tests sometimes doesn't cover what he went over, there is no changing his mind on a grade, Gives extra credit on how well you do on a test. you will take notes the entire class . His quizzes are heavy multiple choice and its all or nothing good Luck
He was the best professor I have ever had. He knows a lot about arts and how to teach. His lectures are amazing and I have always learnt something new from his lectures. Easy A+ if you just concentrate on the in class lectures. His quizzes are mostly from what he have gone through in the class.
being in class is a must. you need to watch the textbook videos and read it too. hes very picky and self centered
Firstly, he has a pretty condescending tone and attitude when he talks. He doesnt seem to be organized since the canvas page was published after the first day of class. On top of that he sent announcements that weren't for us. He doesnt wear a mask, he makes you turn in paper quizzes in pandemic, and he gives you 5 minutes to do tests and quizzes
I was personally not a fan of Professor Castaneda, and I knew that I wouldn't do well under his teaching style so I dropped out. He was very lecture heavy since we have multiple quizzes per class, but he'd always seem to contradict himself while lecturing so it seemed pointless. I would not recommend this class.
Professor Castaneda is a sweetheart! He wants all of his students to succeed and will answer to emails pretty fast! Pay attention in class, b/c you will have lots of quizzes !! Tests are easier than quizzes. Make sure to study before you take any Quizzes or Tests. Definitely recommend this Professor!
So he makes it very clear that this class is a College level class and not a highschool class. If you think you are just gonna show up and get an A then no thats not how college works. Prof. C makes this class easy because all you have to do is pay attention to class and read his textbook chapters that are very short. His quiz/exam(s) are very easy
Got like a 140% in this class, very difficult class you have to pay attention and read the text book. His lectures are boring. Use him as a last resort teacher.
Do not take this professor. He is delusional, and his teaching method sucks. The quizzes he gives are timed so you have 5 minutes to complete 10-12 questions. If you do poorly on the quizzes your grade will drop significantly.
Prof C. is a hard teacher and gives out homework, but the "homework" is doing the tests and quizzes, He gives you about a week to complete it. His lectures are kinda boring but you do gotta pay attention if you wanna pass the class, everything he says is gonna appear on his quiz/tests. It's an easy class as long as you pay attention! :)
Course was very lecture-heavy with multiple quizzes within each class. Lots of textbook reading is required after every class and tests and quizzes are somewhat difficult and time to complete them is inadequate. The professor has an unpleasant demeanor is difficult to approach and seems unhappy teaching.
As a Comp Sci major, I can't thank Mr. Castaneda enough for making the class super easy. I've spent less than 1 hour a week on the class aside from lectures. No homework, just quizzes, and online test. He also has this extra credit system where you get extra points for doing well on exams and quizzes but will deduct your points if you did poor.
Personally this was the easiest class I have taken. He has a customized textbook for the course and its all thats needed to pass. Each chapter has a study guide to go through and he has videos which his lectures repeat info from. His attitude isnt something I agree with, but it is what is. If you arent a good test taker, beware. Lots of quizzes.
This professor is by far the worse I've had so far. There are quizzes every lectures which are timed because he doesn't want you to cheat. The class itself is easy but this professor makes it so much more difficult than it should be. If you can sit there and focus a lot then take him, or else find another professor. Abysmal and pathetic professor.
I took Prof. Castaneda's online course, and it was probably the worst online class experience I've had at NOVA. He doesn't give ANY feedback for grades, or reasons why points were deducted. His weekly announcements are the dryest- just posts what due dates are the next week, not outlining his expectations or anything. Weird attitude, bad professor.
Bad at teaching and rambles pointlessly during lecture. Tests/quizzes are multiple choice but have vague questions/answers making it impossible to do well even when you know everything. For reference, on the recent test the highest score earned was a 74% with a 54% average. He also has a bad attitude and is very condescending and unprofessional.
This class is way harder than it should be for absolutely no reason. ART 100 is the easiest art class you can take, but yet the class average is between 50%-60% due to simply a poor professor. He is very unprofessional and condescending. He personally writes all the tests and makes the time limit so short to "make sure there is no cheating". AVOID!
Must attend all classes. There are quizzes every class and they heavily effect your grade. Teacher rambles a lot during lectures but you must pay attention, take notes, and read the e-text. If you somehow pay attention in class, study the e-text, and you can handle very tough tests then this class is for you. If not, look elsewhere far from here
I literally finished with a 130% and it was so easy. Intellectual Engagement is so clutch you just have to show up to class and pass the quizzes. Tests and quizzes are directly from the lectures & text. Another note is some of the things he says may come off as offensive but most people think it's funny and quite frankly it keeps me engaged lol
Prof. Castaneda made the class very easy. Attend class regularly and read the chapters before class to gain knowledge and be prepared for quizzes before the lecture starts. Intellectual engagement helps a lot. I would retake him, he made class fun and engaging.
Professor Castaneda's class is straightforward if you stay engaged. Attending lectures and using the textbook and resources like unstuck ai can really help with the frequent quizzes. The class has a unique vibe, but if you're willing to put in the work, it's manageable.
Prof. Castaneda's a chill dude with lots of sarcasm and twisted humor. Personally, his personality made it engaging, but for others it could be condescending or offensive. Don't skip his lectures since the quizzes and exams are from lectures, if not from the e-textbook. Extra credit for scoring well on quizzes and deductions for not doing well.
Professor Ivan's class is incredibly straightforward as long as you show up and stay engaged. Intellectual engagement provides extra credit, which helped me achieve 141%, even though I missed a couple of quizzes. The quizzes are based entirely on his lectures, so attending class and paying attention is all you need to succeed.
I do not like reviewing professors negatively, but unfortunately Ivan is just not a good professor. The quizzes were hard. They were poorly written and unclear. The professor also felt condescending and seemed to think negatively of us. I actually felt anxious every time I had this course and dreaded it. Please do not take this professor.
This professor is condescending and rude. He constantly belittles students, and tells them that they are lazy and antisocial for taking online classes. He also has no sources for his lectures, which frequently include misinformation. There is a lecture and quiz about how mental illness is an invention. Easy class, but he is not a good professor.
He's alright, but uses words or phrases with his own specific definitions in mind. This makes the quizzes, which also must be completed very quickly, much more difficult than they need to be. Other than that, the professor is decently interactive (particularly for an online lecture class) so I recommend asking clarifying questions when needed.
Mixed feelings about Professor Castaneda. The lectures were TOUGH to sit through but 100% necessary in order to pass. We had quizzes every week based on everything we went over in lecture but only had 2-5 minutes to take them. He seemed unwilling to listen to student feedback most times. He is at least good at responding and wants you to pass.
Ivan has no communications skill. as an adult he lacks respect for his students and belittles them when he emails them. took him as an online professor and he was very snappy. if you ask him a question he answers in a degrading manner. I am also not a very touchy or sensitive student, but he is just straight up RUDE. he does not understand empathy.
teacher is very rude. he has poor communications skills. he belittles his students when you slightly mess up. he is very passive aggressive. I hope he realizes his students are human and not some robots he can yell at. literally plz do not take him.
awful teacher. disrespects student. he is always snappy. do not hesitate to drop him or give him sass back bc he is awful. genuinely would never take him again. awful human, he even made my friend cry with him rude emails
the most belittling professor i've ever seen...this is community college, not a PhD program
I stayed in this class for 1 week and dropped after seeing his style of how he doe this quizzes 5 min for 10-15 questions is insane. I also do not like that we have to purchase HIS book like arent books included in tuition unless you opt out. He didnt even know the campus was closed for a holiday so we have to rush to get assignments done.
His art 100 class was dummy easy. Just lock in for an hour and a half during lecture take good notes whatever and you're set its not even an hour of work each week outside of class. People be complaining about how hes mean but thats what happens if you're a based chad with opinions in this day and age, I personally found him pretty funny.
Prof C was one of those professors that stuck with me bc of how mean he was. he was very belittling when students asked questions or messed up. he was not the most understanding either. he lacks communication skills, and talks to you in a degrading manner. I hope he reads his reviews and realizes how delusional he is with his teaching. stay away fr
The intellectual points he offers are extremely helpful however you NEED to pay attention in class. Take notes of EVERYTHING he says, Quizzes EVERY class pd with time limits. You get to take the big tests at home. it's also hard to contact him. consider yourself lucky if you get a response. The class is easy just pay attention and don't skip.
He was condescending and passive aggressive. He makes us buy his textbook he wrote and they quizzes and tests are all there. the information he says is sketchy for accuracy, if you show up on time and write down what he says you will probably get an A and don't need to spend much time outside of class.
I took a seven-week online course with him. The routine involved watching lectures, taking notes, and completing readings. Each unit had its own discussion board. He preferred citations without URLs, which I found unusual. Overall, the class was straightforward, and he was very responsive—quick to answer questions and always willing to help.
