He is class is not easy, but he is very helpful. He holds study groups every week before the test to help students. He will help you out, but he is a stickler for attendence. Don't take his class if you want to sleep, but I would recommend it definately.

Class Level: Difficult; however, Mr. Lurz does a great job explaining everything on a Freshman level. Also, he answers all class questions and offers study groups before every exam. But you WILL have to study because after all it IS a college class.

He has an amazing ability to make difficult information easy to understand. He has taught for a long time and he knows his stuff. He is there to teach and expects you to be there to learn. He is not egotistical but rather very understanding and helpful

Prof Lutz is the best teacher in the entire TCC system no matter what the subject is. He teaches what you need to know 2 move on 2 Micro, Anatmony, and Physiology. Unlike Mary Phillips he does not use his class to weed out people he doesn't think should be science majors. I dropped her after 2wk

He took over this class 3/4 of the way through the semester when the original teacher got too sick to continue teaching, yet he still managed to bring a lot of valuable info to the course that the previous teacher could not give. He is an intelligent professor that will make intelligent students.

If you are a bio/science major, Dr. Lurz is a must take. You will learn so much. He definately deserves a hot pepper! He teaches material that is neccessary and omits what is not. His test are challenging, but there are NO trick questions. He is fair and grades on a curve. Take advantage of his study groups before the test.

I highly recommend him. His fare, organized, and extremly helpful. This class requires alot of studying on the students part because there is so much info. It would be of benefit to read the material before class. There should be no reason for someone not to pass his class if you prepare yourself, study and take him up on his offer to help.

Excellent biology teacher. Take advantage of his discussion guides and his willingness to meet anywhere for study groups. His test are challenging, but if you study you will be fine. I plan on taking his micro class in the spring. He is definitely a sweetheart.

I thought he was a great teacher and very helpful. I had him in the summer of 2004. I was surprised when he actually said he'd meet a study group anywhere and help us. He was the first teacher to do that. I thought the story about Krebs cycle was hilarious

Hard class. He goes very in depth. Knows his subject better than most any Professor I've ever taken. Willing to help anyone who wants it. Be ready to work. Don't overload your schedule if you take him. Hard tests. There are NO easy A's in his class. Worth your time if you got it to give to the subject.

Great teacher. If you keep up with the notes and attend class you will do just fine! I didn't think that I would pass at all and ended up with a B in the class. He's really helpful with study groups if you need them.

Very difficult class. Test are very hard. You must come to class and pay very very close attention. Extra study time is a must and all extra credit and labs. I thought I would fail but ended up passing. He's very willing to work with you but you have to make the effort. This is NO easy grade at all. TEST ARE DIFFICULT!!!

This teacher is excellent. I also took him for Intro to Bio. His teching skills are excellent. He is not a page turner and will teach until you understand. He does not rush through the content just to make sure he stays on a schedule. I learned more in this class than any other class I have ever taken!!

You will love Mr. Lurz. But he expects a lot out of the students. He is overly willing to help, but you have to study, study, study. He's a great guy but this is a hard class!

Ivan is awesome. He's got a lot of energy - but he's not really that "easy" - you do have to to work for your grade. But he is likable.

The very first day of class he said, "You will get an A in this class. I will hold your hand the whole time if I have to." He is the sweetest little man and he was true to his word. I did have to drop out but had I not, I WOULD have made an A he was such a wonderful teach although a little rough. He will make sure you understand everything. A++++++

A Very Good Teacher, Probably the best at TCC for Intro to Bio. He is very generous with his extra credit. If you read the chapter, study the notes, and answer the chapter questions (not required for a grade, just to help review), you will make an A - easy. You gotta work hard. Don't be absent. Get on his good side. You will do fine. He's fair with grading. Labs are long but are interesting. Read the Guide to Writing...it will help with lab write-ups and graphing.

Ivan Lurz is an amazing teacher. You can tell by attending his class that he loves what he does and he wants the students to understand the material. If you are motivated and attend class, you will get a really good grade. He even gives up his weekends to meet students at coffee shops to study for the exams, and will give you the right answers.

Ivan Lurz is definitely a excellent biology professor. He makes biology easy to understand and gives students examples that they will remember. It is a tough class and he does require that you work and put time and effort to studying your material. If you ask him for help he gladly helps you! Just make sure you don't miss class!!

I'm concurrent enrollment, and one of the colleges I'm looking at offers a full tuition waiver for 2 biology majors who have the high scores on a test. I needed a good biology teacher. I signed up for another teacher, but quickly saw that it wasn't going to work. I signed up for the next available biology- Lurz, the best teacher ever. Take him.

Professor Lurz is a great professor. He really knows his MICRO. The tests are over his powerpoint lectures and there are some short answer essay. He does want you to do well but the material is still hard if you don't have a good foundation of biology. Just come to class and study and you should do well.

funny guy! great teacher. gave out 3 20 pts e/c. willing to help student out of class which was really nice. i thought the tests were kinda hard (but it's just me). gives out chapter reviews (great for use of SG) tests consists of multiple choice and 8 short answers (short answers ?s given ahead of time) total of 6 exam. final test=group of 3

Very knowledgeable teacher, had him for a few classes and very much enjoyed his lectures. His class isn't for the lazy. He is willing to meet students outside of class. It is definitely possible to make over a 100 percent in micro and bio for majors. Lab final isn't too bad either. I consider Lurz to be my favorite teacher at TCC.
