I took The class furring the pandemic. Meaning that all lectures were done online. Me and my classmates absolutely loved him from the very begging. He is pure and innocent-like. Seemed to be a very interesting guy outside of his professionalism also. Very understanding and lenient with a lot of things/work. I definitely recommend taking him.
Test are stupid hard
Tests are stupid easy. You don't even have to attend any lectures live since he records all of them. Just watch them before each test and get your free A. Or you could just look over the slides and not bother with the lectures. Most of the material is at the high-school level anyways.
I love his class! The exams are really easy. Just put the time and effort into his class and you'll pass. He is a great professor!
This was his first year teaching 230 so maybe that was the issue but the way he taught was ridiculous. Theres so much info during lectures and hes so monotone that i often zoned out and more than half the class dropped before the 3rd test. I could go on but just save yourself the stress and take a different professor for 230.
To pass his Biology 121 class all you have to do is come to class and fill out the slides and do the study guides he puts on Moodle. Very easy class.
I took his class as a hybrid class, meaning the beginning of the semester was online then towards the end it was in-person. I did not attend every lecture, but I would recommend to! His lectures are interesting and he makes it easy to understand. Tests can be a good bit of information, but if you look at the slides he gives you, you'll pass!
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Gave us 40 extra credit points (big deal considering the class is graded by points not percentage), was very helpful, accessible outside of class, answered emails right away. Biology has never been something I'm great at, but he made his lectures extremely straightforward (lots of slides). I made 106 by putting in the work.
All I can say is pray! Its not the professor its the class! The information is INTENSE. Very important information for a career in research/medicine. Bottom line is you MUST be interested in biology to succeed in this course. You will have to know this information like the back of your hand to pass.
This class was insane. Ive never had such a monotone professor before. He just reads off the slides and doesnt say much else but requires attendance.
This is the worst professor ever. The class is very hard and he does not care about his students. He only reads monotone from a powerpoint and does not explain anything. Attendance is mandatory but counts toward nothing. And plus, he does not curve any grades despite how bad they may be. Exams are super duper hard. Please do not take him at all!
He was available outside of class to talk about your grades or any clarification. I took him & marla Perez but found that Perez was better. His powerpnts arent in order best for understanding and I struggled (Im not used to struggling) made my first C. He was very friendly but I found he went through a lot of material very fast. No xtra credit.
Recipe for passing: Read powerpoints BEFORE class and take detailed notes (pay attention to the notes below the powerpoints), go to lecture and do your best to fill in the gaps, make sure to copy down the homework questions. When it comes times to study, attend the review lectures, apply your notes, review questions. Then pray.
Overall this professor is average as he cannot teach at all. During class, he only reads monotone from a power point without going into much detail. For exams, study homework, go to review, and study lecture notes in depth as there are tricky questions on the test. Your best bet is to get class material from someone who has already taken the class.
Absolutely terrible professor. So monotone and boring. His lectures don't have me interested in the material at all. His tests are extremely hard and cover a ton of material. Many students failed his first exam and he didn't do anything except say "Do better, work harder, and study more and you could get an A"
He's utterly useless. Extremely difficult and unhelpful.
He is friendly and helpful but he reads directly from the slides. The book isn't required but it's helpful when studying for tests. There are 4 exams with an optional final. If you take the final, your lowest score is dropped. Each test is 50 questions with 5 bonuses for a total of 10 points. If you are good at teaching yourself you will do okay.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I am usually a straight A student. After taking the first exam (after I studied for 2 weeks) I made a low F. I studied even harder for the second exam, and still made an F. I was forced to drop the class or fail. If you want to pass BIO110, I suggest not taking this class.
Whatever you do, DO NOT TAKE HIM. I took multiple honors biology's in highschool and still did not understand half of the stuff he was talking about. He sits there the whole class and reads off of a powerpoint in a monotone voice. If you go to see him outside of class he will make you feel dumb because you need him to explain things.
Definitely an interesting man, but I feel as though he made the class hard. The homework, quizzes and small bonus is the only reason I might pass the class with a B after not doing so well on the first 2 exams. He goes at a fast pace with the lectures to rush last minute concepts which is unnecessary. Take him and this class with caution.
He is not the best but he is also not the worst. I found him manageable. His lectures were boring cuz he reads powerpoint. I think I did so well in this class because of my high school biology class. I know I would not have done so good if I hadn't had the past background. I HIGHLY suggest making a study group and reading if you can.
Lots of information, but people fail because they do not try. If you read the books and powerpoints you will pass. His reviews are on stuff straight from the test.
The class overall is unnecessarily heavy with the material. I wouldn't say he is bad, but he only reads off the PowerPoint. His tests felt like answering the same question 40 times asked differently. The book explained better, and the HW helped as some questions were on the test. He said he wouldn't give a bonus, but he did, which helped me pass.
He is really good at explaining images, not so much background information such as vocabulary words used for those images. Online textbook is great for studying but not required, cost ~$90. The tests are okay, wording sometimes throws me off. I mainly had to teach myself by watching YouTube videos, though. He does not give test papers back.
This class takes full effort on your part to succeed. Though Mr. Moberly's lectures were fast-paced, I was able to teach myself through Connect to receive an A in the course. The tests require a full understanding of everything covered in his PowerPoints, or you will not understand the questions. Bonus was given. Not the best but not the worst.
His class is hard but is very helpful for actually learning. If needed for just a credit, I wouldn't recommend taking him. Tests are HARD but reading the textbook helps a lot. Gives extra credit and also grades attendance. You will need to study for this class but the information learned helps later on in Bio 112, 230, 231, and Chem 231, 317, 232.
Lectures are boring and unhelpful So no wonder no one ever showed up. Learned better on my own..study guides are general and useless. Test are complex.I would suggest the textbook for teaching yourself. The PowerPoints are just images from textbook.
Had really great lectures and answered all questions. Used powerpoints in class that followed the book. Had a point-based grading system instead of percentages. Had quizzes, homework, and lot of extra credit to help boost grade. A lot of material but READ THE BOOK and you'll do amazing on the tests. Also look at the review sheets given before each
I really like Dr. Moberly. The material is very dense but going to the lectures and annotating the slides is the best way to do well. Also, and this is what helped me the most, make sure to go to his review sessions and watch his review videos on moodle! The course is very challenging but Dr. Moberly is super caring and willing to help
just dont take him...tests were unnecessarily hard and lectures are extremely useless and boring. textbooks helped but if you struggle or dont test well steer clear, hes not much help even outside of class. his only advice is "study harder"
This is a hard course, regardless of who teaches it. Moberly obviously cares about the students and really wants us to learn and fully understand the information. His tests are super in-depth and very challenging. In order to do well, you need to know the information inside and out. Just put in the effort, and you should be okay.
He is very average. He just reads off the power-point slides. What helped me the most was reading the textbook and going to mentoring matters. The students at mentoring matters explained the material WAY better than he did.
His lectures annoyed me. The way he talks is odd and he mispronounces a lot of things. He pulls things from many places and his test feels very random. I had Waltz for 220 and got a 102. I made a B here. Four exams make up most of your grade. He always seems a little lost which bothers me.
When you go to him he makes you feel like your dumb, he gets off topic lots of times, and just glide through the powerpoints so quickly ,and he tries to makes jokes that take up most of class timing .
He is one of the worst professors I have ever had. I had him in Bio 110 and I think he is worse teaching anatomy than the beginning bio. He doesn't explain anything very well at all and expects you to know everything before he actually teaches it. Everything according to him is "review" and he speeds through lectures to finish by the test date.
Mr. Moberly is passionate about Anatomy and cares about his students passing. Yes, this is a hard class what do you expect...it's anatomy. You have to put a lot of effort into this class in order to succeed. You will not pass this class if you rely on memorization. He does exam reviews which I thought was very nice, and he gave extra credit points.
This class wasn't horrible, but definitely took time for studying and making quizlets for the exams. I would recommend filling out the study guide during the lectures and add in extra notes he says in class. Then study the material at least twice a week as you go, so you don't get behind. You need to remember a lot of the details.
I think a lot of people give Ivan unnecessary hate. He is super helpful and makes himself available outside of class. The tests are pretty straightforward. The class is not necessarily hard, but it is anatomy so it is alot of material and studying. You need to study to make an A. The hw was sometimes lengthy, but its not too bad.
he gives no direction and honestly seems lost most of the time. the worst professor of all when asked how to prepare is, "understanding it all." avoid...
Dont take this professor
Doesn't give any extra credit, the test are not at all like the study guides or slides, very confusing overall.
I have taken Ivan for 220, 230, and now 318. Some students dislike him because he tends to be monotone and reads directly from the slides. He is a caring man who tries his best to ensure his students learn the information. He will go into great detail if you go into his office hours. Helpful. Go to class and study the slides and figures on them.
truly leaves students bewildered on how to study for his tests. I really feel bad for nursing majors that are required to take him and he does not equip his students with the tools to succeed. He reads purely off slides but his tests are completely off the script. seems unwilling to listen to feedback and students only do well in spite of him.
honestly dont know why this is a biology professor
One of the worst professors I've ever had. He rushes through lectures so that the test date on the syllabus stays the same. He provides a study guide, but it honestly does not help. If I had the option of taking another professor for this course, I would. The homework he assigns is also very lengthy and doesn't really help you prepare for the test.
Ivan is actually a great teacher. He really does care about all of his students and he tries his best to allow them to succeed. Most people do not like him, but I think he is a great teacher. Anatomy is a hard class, so you will have to study. It is a lot of information. If you study, you will make an A.
I think Ivan is a great professor. Everyone complains but in reality, anatomy is just a hard class. You have to study in order to perform well. If anatomy was not hard, anyone could become a doctor. And we wouldnt want that right? Just study and you will do fine.
if you read the book, you will do great. Ivan is a very caring professor!
Ivan is a very sweet man, but he is not a great teacher. He makes his own exams, and half of the questions don't even come from his powerpoints. We also have homework due every weekend on Mcgraw Hill Connect. He rarely takes attendance, and has to curve/ give extra credit for almost all his exams because everyone fails. Don't take him if possible.
BEWARE! CAUTION! Get ready to suffer unless you are really smart. This is definitely the class that makes or breaks you. Prepare to change your major and your religion. (run) You will cry. Does curve exams and give bonus opportunities. Tests are worded incorrectly. Very proud of himself.
READ. THE. BOOK. Each of his powerpoints have a topic, find it in the book and read it. Write extra notes that go into more detail in the notes section of your microsoft powerpoint for each slide. I also dont suggest taking this class with other hard classes, you won't do well. Too much studying. Go to his office hours and GO TO THE REVIEWS.
This man is the worst teacher I have ever had. For context, I am usually an A/B student, and have developed study skills that have given me great success in many hard courses. No matter how early I studied, how much I read the TB/PPT, I could not make above a 68 on a test. He picks out the most minuscule smallest details for tests. Good luck.
The good thing about this class is that 1/3 of it is lab, which is really easy so it boosts your final grade. The connect didn't help much. You need to understand all of the information as a whole and how each thing connects. Use most of your time dissecting animations and figures while using a whiteboard. Draw it all out. This isn't an easy class.
It was a pretty difficult course. EXTREMELY lecture-heavy. A lot of people complain about Ivan but imo he is a pretty good teacher, his tests are just hard. Once I learned how to study for his test it was much more approachable. He always offers office hours, I recommend going if you're not getting the grades you want.
Ivan is a decent professor but anatomy is not an easy subject. Flipping through the Power points and reading the textbook BEFORE lecture is definitely going to help you get through his class, especially since he tends to talk very fast and rushes sometimes. His tests are application based, so don't rely on the slides...use the textbook!!
Very good professor & he loves to give extra credit. The class itself if hard because its a lot of material.
He is quite literally the worst professor/teacher I have ever had to tolerate. I have never struggled with a class this much in my life. Yes, anatomy and physiology is a hard class but Ivan makes it ten times harder than it ever needed to be. His tests are impossible. Whenever you ask a question his answer just confuses you more. Avoid him!!!!!!
You have to read the chapters to really understand what is going on. Just straight memorization isn't enough you have to be able to apply it. That is how his tests were. Go to class, and study about 4-6 hours a week.
Mr. Moberly is a very modest guy. If you want to pass with an A or B, you're gonna have to put in work. Anatomy and Physiology in itself, is a ton of concepts. Don't cram study. Progressively study with the course each day if possible. He's a conversationalist and very insightful- use his office hours.
He's a nice guy, so I do feel bad, but he makes this course so difficult. I was a straight-A student, but I feel like no matter how hard I try, it's never good enough because his tests pull the smallest details out of the 200+ lecture slides we review. If you need this class, please try to prioritize your mental health
Ivan is an amazing professor! He really cares about his students! If you pay attention in class and read the textbook you will do great! Do not get discouraged by the other ratings, they are from people that did not study. Of course you wont do well if u dont study :)
Absolutely horrible
The WORST class. I have never felt so defeated as a student. I have taken this course at another college and literally made an A. He makes it impossible to pass a test. Good luck for anyone taking him in the future! You will need it.
He needs to switch up how he teaches and how he makes the test. I dont see how he is still a professor
I took him for 220 and 318 and the ONLY reason i give him a 2 and not a 1 is bc he is a nice person overall and he will round but not a great professor. For the tests, most of it was always information that he didn't directly go over in class. I understand not everything will go over in class but the exams are so hard to pass that it's discouraging
Be ready to study until your brain in fried. Good luck taking this class if you have other classes, because all your time will be consumed by this course. Test are difficult and almost impossible. You're best bet is to be able to recite the whole book chapters, dont rely on pp. You never know what will be on the test
this class was difficult beyond words and he did not make it easier.
A lot of people complain about this professor, however I really enjoyed his class. He gave great lectures, but this class does require a lot of studying outside of class. There is a nice balance of hw grades, assignments, and tests. If you go to his office hours, he is very thorough and willing to help you learn from your mistakes.
I don't understand why so many people complain about Ivan! If you show up to class and listen to what he says, then you will do fine. I wrote down what he said during class onto the slides and I felt prepared for every test. The people on here who complain about him are the ones not going to class and not paying attention.
took him for 220 and 318. i got Bs in both classes but had to fight tooth and nail for it. anatomy is supposed to be difficult but his tests are unbelievably hard. i have seen very hardworking and smart people fail this class and damage their GPAs. drop class if u aren't 100% sure you will pass before the deadline. nice guy but should not teach.
If you have the option, please, PLEASE never take this class. This class made me realize that I am doing my life wrong. Everything is incredibly hard, and the way he words his test is more complex. Please do yourself the honor and don't go into nursing or kinesiology just to skip this class.
He is a great and kind professor. It's not his fault that the course itself is tough and heavy. So be prepared to put in time and effort. Read the textbook.
If you do not believe in a god you better start because only a higher power can save you in this class. No matter how long you study you will just be completely lost so if you do not have to take this class do not take it. This class felt like I was getting drop kicked in the mouth 24/7. His lab is easier because he does not teach it his TA does.
Honestly, this class is difficult BUT if you put in the work, study, and go to office hours it can be very obtainable to pass. Don't get scared by the other people telling you that you will never pass that is not true, but you HAVE to put in the work. Study immediately, go to office hours because they are very helpful and dont give up!
Ivan is an ok dude but a bad teacher. The only way to pass is if you constantly focus on just this class. He doesn't teach us good and makes the test like a code we should be able to figure out
in my opinion, this class is just very hard, it is meant to weed people out of their majors. YOU HAVE TO STUDY!!! his interactive assignments on Connect are usually bonus and go to the exam reviews/listen to the recordings. Most of the time if he's asking the class a question, it will be on the exam. Do the hw assignments, it's a BIG grade boost!!
yes anatomy is a tough subject but he makes his test almost impossible!! It's like he takes the most smallest detail that wasn't elaborated on and puts it in his test! UL needs a different professor for this course
It's very true that this class is difficult. However, it is by no means impossible. I took this class in the Summer 2025 semester and dedicated most of my free time to studying. Professor Moberly is kind and is always willing to gather resources for you and work one-on-one to help you understand the material better. There are bonus assignments.
Extremely difficult class. You must dedicate hours towards this class for a remote chance to pass. Ivan is super smart however his lecture style is mundane.
I took BIO220 over the summer and while I passed the lab, the lecture was harder since he was the one teaching it. He makes his tests tricky, so I highly recommend paying attention, record the lectures, and read the textbook.
Beware of Moberly. He finishes unit material early and instead of doing in class reviews to make sure everyone will do good on the exam, he goes straight into the next exam unit even with the previous test coming up. You have to listen to every little thing he says or else you're cooked.
This class genuinely traumatized me. I would recommend saving yourself. I barely passed.
This professor has single handily taken years off my life. He is aware of the schedule yet still puts the tests to be the Mondays after hoco and family weekend. His job is to make life hell.
If I could give a 0 I would. I personally think he was hand crafted by the UL nursing and health department to discourage young health majors. Everyone talks about how amazing his personality is; yes he is a funny and kind man. But he almost makes his class impossible and treats it as a boost for his ego. It's ridiculous, UL needs another teacher
I took his biology 220 also last semester and I just want to say do no take this class. Hes lowkey like cinderella's evil stepmom. You might think I am overreacting but he is literally evil. I feel emotionally scared from taking his 220 and this and its only him bc lab is a breeze. I would rather get ran over than ever go through this class again.
Legit not hard. Just show up to class, pay attention, he curves exams, can pass class w an A and only really studied 3 days in advance for exams. lectures are alright but his test aren't as bad as people make it to be. he does bonus on exams from the interactive so do those.
Ok i passed his class with a C and i have to take him again for 318 next semester unfortunately. My advice is don't procrastinate. The first two tests i didn't study until the night before but the last two i actually took the time to study and i passed with B's. Use notebook LM, Gizmo, Quizlet, CrashCourse on youtube and listen to his lectures!
you need start studying at least 2 weeks before each exam, which are application heavy. he curves exams by a lot if you complete assignments on connect. DO THE CONNECT ASSIGNMENTS. they are a really good grade booster. people only hate on him because of how hard this subject is but he is actually a really nice guy. take advantage of office hours
I never knew that a professor like this existed until I met the one and only Ivan. Brotha hates life the way he words his exams. I busted my ass for every exam 2 weeks in advance and still made C's. I somehow ended with a B by the grace of God. He's a great person but not the greatest professor and if you take this class get ready to study.
The people that complain about Moberly are the people that don't show up to class and don't put in the work. Yes, this class is difficult, but he gives you all the resources you need to do well. Go to office hours, go to his pre-exam review sessions, and you will be fine.
