she has an accent which makes her hard to understand, her words in her sentences do not make much sense either. test were difficult to do because if the book did not make sense you would not get any clarity form class, I took it up until drop date and i had a c in an intro class this call is too hard with her.
She is always willing to help or go into more detail. I think that some students think that this class will be easier than it is and project their frustration on the professor. She lectures well, writes things on the board and draws diagrams to aid in clarity and her in-class tests always come directly from lectures (also has take-home tests).
She is a wonderful teacher. She does have an accent which makes some things difficult to understand. If you show up to class on time and take good notes you will do fine in her courses. She expects above average from her students, but she is willing to help with anything! She works muliple examples in class and is always avaiable for office hours!!
Best professor ever! if u want to learn something, take her class.. she is very knowledgeble& smart. always helpful(students who wants to learn)nicest person I ever met @ occc.do ur work instead of blaming her. she is amazing and i want to take more classes with her.she wont let u copy the solution manual, cos she wants u to learn.take her classes.
gr8 professor.. smart and helpful.if u want 2 learn physics, take her class. i really miss her classes.she is the best.
I'll preface this by saying that I've always been a math whiz. Sadly, her lectures were almost useless. It's like she was showing addition & testing on long division. Hired a tutor, used Kaplan & still had trouble keeping up. She may be great at high-level physics classes, but she's not very good at teaching entry level physics.
I don't always expect to make an A (even though I have so far.), but I do expect to learn. There are so many flaws in her teaching style that I cannot type them all out. In her lab class she did not seem to know what she was doing. I felt I wasted my money on the class, which was disappointing. I'd have had as much help in an online version.
She is the best professor ever had for physics. She helps student with problems related to exam. She teaches real good and if u do good in class and the review she provides, you will end up with great score like me....like her....
Only these words: Best Professor ever,,,,,at first she gonna give u guys hard time but if u get stuck on that class, and do the review things I m pretty sure u will end up with better grades for sure....so she might be hard first but she will be soft as u continue her class without dropping it and let that semester go with her....best of luck
You are going to need to devote a considerable amount of time to Engineering Physics. The beginning of the semester was brutal, but it did ease up later in the semester. Pavic is good about being available to answer questions. Check her online content often. This course was a bear, but I feel I got my moneys worth.
Had her summer '12. She is from Europe and has a strong accent, so sometimes it's hard to understand her. She made it a lot easier to understand what we were learning though than a previous professor I'd had. She assigns lots of homework but rarely does it have to be turned in. Tests are made up of examples she has done in class or from homework.
Prof. Pavic is incredibly smart. So smart that she cannot explain anything on a level I understand, adding in her accent, it's an extremely difficult class that shouldn't be. She is a nice, funny lady, but don't take her class unless you're a genius too.
The first few weeks were miserable & her accent intimidated me. If you are having problems with her or the material, go to her office & talk with her. You will get used to her accent & notice that she has a sense of humor. As soon as she knew I was struggling, she helped me & graded easier for effort. Try & you'll be okay. She really is nice.
This class was a rollercoaster! The professor had an okay attitude. Whenever she was having a bad day, she would not answer our questions. She seemed to always be in a rush and not prepared. I really tried hard to look past her accent. I did not think the study material worked. Most of us in class failed the exams. GOODLUCK!
I've always gotten A's or B's in all of calculus and had a 3.5 until I took this class. I enjoy physics and she made me hate it. I knew it was going to be hard but she made it painful. If you take classes with her... Good Luck! My advice, don't
I've never heard a professor tell a student "that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard" until I met this professor.
Absolute worst professor ever! Don't take her class! She is hard to understand and intentionally makes you feel stupid. Her homework schedule is impossible if you are a full time student and employee. I will never take her class again. There is only one way to do things, her way. No flexibilty for different learning types.
She is a horrible professor. She expects you to remember everything off the top of your head. My class went from 30 students to 6 by the end of the semester. She hates engineers also, she said so. You can pass her class but don't expect an A or a life.
I don't really care that she has an accent, but she cannot put sentences together properly to where anyone understands what she's saying. She uses the words "you know this" a lot. Poor instruction. Exams are way advanced than what was lectured on and hardly anything from the book was on it. Really wish I hadn't taken this class in the first place.
Not a good teacher. If you're brave enough to ask a question be prepared for it not to be answered and to feel like you are a bug that she just stepped on. She will make you feel like an idiot in front of the whole class, then say she doesn't understand what you're asking. I've never taken a class that started w 30 and had less than 10 by drop date.
Okay, let me start off by saying, if you are truly serious about becoming an engineer, then this class is for you! So far it has been the hardest class I've taken, however, you ACTUALLY LEARN physics! I'm proud of the A I got in her class. Read the book, and do the HW and you'll well! She is VERY helpful if you just ask for help! Awesome teacher!
This class is very hard but also confusing because she has a very thick accent and teaches very fast. I tried my best in this class did all test and extra credit and she still failed me. I would never ever ever take her class again. I have never got a D in any other class. If you ask question she kind of make you feel stupid. Don't take her class.
Not helpful and will fail with no hesitation. If you ask a question she makes you feel stupid. I did all homework and extra credit and she still failed me. Hard to understand her because of her thick accent.
she is the worst professor i could possibly imagine, DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!
Amazing professor! She explained vocabulary and example problems thoroughly and was very clear on what you needed to know for exams. Tough exterior, but she grows on you. Her accent was difficult to understand on the first day, but after I had no problems. Don't be scared, speak up in class, ask questions, and do not forget the homework.
I definitely don't recommend taking her class. I was completely lost the entire time I was in there. She really does make you feel stupid for asking questions. I took the class this semester with a different professor and it was so much better. I thought I would never understand physics after last semester, but I actually ended up with an A.
Be very cautious when taking this class, it was difficult from the beginning to start, especially in during a summer course. It's best to take this class if you have prior knowledge of physics coming in. She wants detail in every answer or you wont get full credit. It is mandatory to do all the homework and attend class as much as possible.
Pavic seems to know everything; she's very strict on attendance & expects U to know a lot of info 4 exams. If U miss a day, she makes sure to give U extra questions on UR exam about what is covered in lecture. She doesn't like to repeat herself when she gives instructions. Hmwrk & quiz is due within 10 min of start of class, if U R late U get a 0.
Pavic is very intelligent and her passion for physics is obvious. However, DO NOT take her if you want an easy A, in fact, don't take Physics if you want an easy A. If you do take her class, learn the syllabus, do AAALLLL the homework, pay attention to the details, and don't give up.
Rudest teacher I've EVER had. Said there's no stupid questions, acted like we were dumb because of what she thought was simple and then wondered why halfway through the semester, people stopped answering questions when she asked them. This is college, no need to look down and treat us like elementary school kids. Do not take this class.
Her class is based on learning the material at the VERY Fundamental level. Getting a correct answer is not sufficient and a correct answer alone gives about 13 credit. She expects you to give a COMPLETELY correct answer written in a specific format. If you give an answer on her exam in a different format it might as well be wrong. She's a dictator
Pavic is awesome. Yes, you have to work your butt off. However, it's to prepare you for the future rigors of engineering. She was there for us and any time we had a question she was really helpful. I wish I could take her again for my next physics class. Don't be afraid of the first test: everyone does badly, but your grade will improve.
I'm an A student. Hardest teacher I've had . Spent 6 hrs/day doing homework and studying for this lower level class and still barely made a B. She is VERY specific. If you doodle anything on your exam to help you understand the problem she will count it wrong even if you get the right answer. Its her way or fail! Would not take again, ever!
A lot of people don't like her because of how hard the tests are, but in reality if you're not willing to put in the work for this class then you'll get weeded out by the upper level classes anyway. Recommended to people who need a strong fundamental background in mechanical physics more than an easy A, i.e. Mechanical/Civil Engineer and Physicists
I've had some very hard teachers in the past, but Pavic has been the hardest teacher I have ever taken. Biggest thing to note is on her tests she wants a very specific way for you to solve the problem. If you use the margin for scratch work you will lose points even if the rest of the problem is right. Very knowledgeable but extremely hard.
#1. Ivana Pavic is a top-notch professor of physics. She is an expert, if you are serious about learning and understanding physics, TAKE HER! Get ready to work as she teaches at perfection and expects you deliver the same on exams. She is an inspiration and I am VERY THANKFUL our paths crossed along my education journey.
Treats students like the my are fools for not understanding things and has no respect for anyone. Explains things poorly and blames her mistakes on her students or the school. I've never had a worse professor in all of my schooling career. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Pavic is one of, if not my favorite professor, maybe ever. She has high expectations & demands hard work, which I find refreshing in comparison to past experiences. I'm req'd to make a C. If I don't make it this semester, I will make it next semester & I will take her again. I'm confident it will serve me better as I move to higher level classes.
I don't recommend her. Her lectures were not always very clear, although she did work a fair number of example problems. She often acts like you're an idiot if you don't know the answer to a question, but then wonders why everyone stops answering. She prides herself in being as difficult as possible.
Pavic is tough but fair. You will definitely have to work for your grade, but you will be grateful, because you will have mastered the material this way. Her personality may come off kind of cold since she is from eastern Europe, but she is really sweet and willing to help.
I believe Pavic greatly cares about the Q of her students' work. As someone who EARNED a C, I still appreciate the criteria by which she grades--which was always made very clear. I truly believe that I have gained something much more valuable than an A, which is a new method of studying technical material & a good understanding of Eng Physics I.
Worst teacher I have ever experienced. As someone who knows how to study, goes to every lecture and lab, and studies very hard for every test, i hate her. Comparing to other students in the class, she would take some points away for one thing on mine, and not take points for another doing the same mistake, and vice versa. ALSO DOES NOT POST GRADES.
Pavic is one word-tough. There's just no way around it, however, if you take and pass her class you will not only know physics you will truly understand it. She is very particular on formatting and the way things are set up, so the sooner you learn her methods the better you will do. The book problems are worth your time!!
Survive her class and you will pass ever physics class from there on. If you just need an A DO NOT TAKE HER! Without a doubt the toughest professor I have ever had. The class is more about learning her ways than it is about learning the material. VERY tough grader. Pop quizzes over definitions that don't come out of the book. Artificially difficult
Pavic wont just say heres your homework, read the book, and you'll pass. She teaches you how to think as a physicist, how to approach a problem, and solve it. People say its her way or the highway. It is. But they always leave out that her way is the BEST way. All professors since her say my work is very impressive. I give Pavic all of the credit.
She is tough, but she knows this and will likely drop the lowest test grade. She takes the time to explain the material fully and will drive important definitions into your head until you will never forget them. She wants you to do well beyond her class, that's why she required so much. She really cares in her own way.
1. You'll know physics REALLY WELL if you take her class. If you need an easy A, avoid like the plague. If you enjoy studying 12 hours on your Saturday, she's your gal. 2. Do the bloody homework. UNDERSTAND the problems she does on the board, the test questions are just like them. Do them over, and over, and over again when preparing for the exam.
Uses a European grading system, but is VERY format oriented. Even if you understand what you're doing, if you don't write down the exact details she wants in the exact format she wants, you wont get the points. She does not make it clear what the exact details and exact format is. Beware an accent that can be hard to understand.
She's awesome! I loved her.
She is strict, but she tells you very clearly what she wants. Her lectures are very clear and concise, they tell you how to approach any problem she presents you with. Participate and pay attention in class, read your book, and study. If you do these things you will be Golden! Really nice fun lady, highly recommend.
She's very caring, and I like her a lot as a person.. but terrible professor. She teaches very fast and doesn't explain things very well. She also stands in front of the board as she's writing all the equations and by the time she moves and you write down what she wrote- she's expecting you to answer questions about it. Too fast paced for physics 1
Pavic is a hard teacher. She demands a lot from you and the tests are very difficult. They require you to actually know the knowledge and study extensively beforehand. However, she is one of the kindest and most caring instructors out there. She is funny and tells great stories and really knows her stuff and is good at teaching it. DO THE HOMEWORK
She is the hardest teacher Ive ever had, she is also a really good person. You have to study countless hours, she does give a lot of extra credit. The exams are ridiculously hard, I wouldnt take this class ever again but I did learn a lot. My advice is to watch Khon Academy Videos look at Quizlet conceptual questions and Re-do the homework ALOT.
I graduated with a degree in environmental science with a 3.48, I decided to go back to school for engineering. I took Calc 2 along side her Phys 1 class. I barely studied for calc 2 and studied 12-16 hours a week for her class. I ended up having to drop her class and made a B in Calc 2. If its not her way to a T, you get zero credit.
She is too smart for an entry level class. I would've gotten a better grade if it werent for how detailed she was. One tiny thing wrong and you get the whole answer wrong and she write snarky comments such as "wow" and "good job" if you get it wrong. She as well will not tolerate you using the bathroom so don't try that one.
She is the hardest teacher I've ever had, She demands a lot from you and the tests are very difficult and she cut a lot point from your test also She teaches very fast and doesn't explain things very well.
Worst professor I ever had
If you can avoid taking her class, I would. Physics is not supposed to be easy but this teacher makes it purposely difficult. I dropped the class and enrolled with a different teacher and made an A. Its like she purposely wants you to fail.
She mumbles and you can not understand her half the time. She is not engaging and she scoffs if you get an answer wrong. Overall, this teacher made me not want to come to class. Classmates discussed how we weren't being benefitted at all AFTER half the class dropped. Struggling to get a decent grade.
pavic is by far the worst professor i have ever dealt with. she WITHHELD GRADES during the ENTIRE semester. her lectures make little to no sense and she constantly goes off on tangents that have nothing to do with the specified topic. never knew what she went over last period. overall a terrible professor. if you want to learn, take someone else.
Like stated by someone else, this was her first online class but it was incredibly hard! Way too much due at a time. Videos were helpful but I was unable to watch her long videos and read all her lectures if I wanted to get the homework done on time. She is also very rude! Not helpful at all! 1 week in and I cried 4 times because I was overwhelmed.
I took Physics 1 online for one week and had to drop. I will give her the benefit of the doubt, this was her first online class, but there was entirely too much homework, like three assignments due almost every night, and little to no lectures/teaching. She was also an extremely tough grader too. Don't take her if you have a choice.
Her online summer class schedule is very pressed for time. Lots And lots of work to do, if you have the knowledge of chemistry and trigonometry before taking the class, then it should be fairly easy, if not, be prepared to spend at least 12 hours a day on an assignment.
I am currently taking Pavic's class for the summer. She's a terrible professor and is very rude! She's a tough grader & gives a lot of homework. You will need to spend 10+ hours on Cengage. There is no lectures/some of her videos has very low quality. I'm fine with doing homework, but she needs to know that students have work/personal lives too.
This lady is horrible. Her online class was terrible very very unclear instructions and felt like I was doing a scavenger hunt for 8 weeks trying to find all the HW and assignments that were due posted in many different locations. Should of had 8 hours of lecture each week and we got roughly 45 min of bad video quality lectures. She's awful.
Save your grade. Do not take her classes
Took her online during the Pandemic and she was very vague in every way. Overall grades for the class were very very low, if she did mandatory zoom classes every day i feel like more people would have gotten A's. All of her quizzes and exams were pulled from some random physics book. Id recommend her in person and not online if possible.
The reality is that I simply can't explain how horrible this course is in just 350 characters. The subject matter isn't impossible. But Pavic does everything in her power to make it feel that way. 3 Assignments a night. You will not have time to grasp the concepts. It's not just her fault; OCCC should NOT have made this an 8-week course. Period.
10 hours a day of studying, homework, and tests, still barely meeting deadlines. Shouldn't be an 8 week class. Pre-recorded lectures have poor camera quality. Will discuss theory at length but skimps on examples. She will mark a ton of red with no explanation, fortunately doesn't take too many points for small stuff. Avoid if possible.
DONT RECOMMENDED TAKING AT OCCC AT ALL BUT IF YOU DO DONT TAKE IT WITH HER.
I was unfortunate enough to take this class while it was 100% online due to covid and it was absolutely brutal. She provides about 2 hours of lecture time that cover absolutely nothing in the homework. Homework was done online through Pearson and we had about 2-3 assignments a week. Plan to spend about 8 hours on each assignment.
literally worst prof at occc but no other option until phys 2
Doesnt teach the class just assigns homework. Cant see anything on screen either because of her poor camera. Nothing is being learned from her in this class, its all up to you.
To pass her class you need to get a 60% of her criteria. Even if you were like me who got a 59.89% and was missing .11%; you don't pass. Oral exams aren't written in class schedule, so no way of preparing a week ahead. All class materials in Moodle only stay open for 3 days then close. Material of focus was not clear. Proper graph paper was needed?
If you have the opportunity to take this course somewhere else, totally take that chance. However, if you enjoy having no life outside of school, enjoy spending 10 hours a day doing homework, and cry at least twice a night, then this is the professor to take. The class was very heavy on the workload and she was brutal grading labs.
No extensions yet homework is assigned and due the day after the next. She grades labs atrociously, MUST use specific engineering paper or else failing grade even if you understand the content, bad feedback on labs. She responds well to emails & is helpful during office hours. If you have ANY doubts about the work, ask her!! Better safe than sorry
I took this class completely online in an eight week setting because of Covid 19. Her video lectures are entirely unhelpful and you are expected to learn everything by yourself. When speaking to her over zoom calls, her remarks are offensive and degrading if you do not tell her the correct answer. Find any other option if you are going to take this
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR DO NOT TAKE HER! She is not fair when it comes to the grading policy. I notice that she will give 0.00% on assignments even when I took the time and did the assignments. As a matter of fact, she even changed the scheduled time for our final exams last minute. RUN !!!!!!
Took her for an online physics course. She grades terribly, and talks really slow. She held optional meetings to review problems and it would take 3 hours to get through a problem. Take Someone else!
She should not be teaching this class online. OCCC should provide their students with a professor who will give them the opportunity to pass. Her lecture videos are all over the place. Pavic teaches material from the perspective of someone you already understands the content. The department needs to remove her ASAP and OCCC should be ashamed! RUN!!
Word of advice, DO NOT take this class if she is the professor. Contemplating taking at another university and paying a higher rate just to have a chance of passing and learning the material from a professor who understands that these are students not professionals. YouTube will be more helpful with understanding the assignments. Which is sad...
She seems like a nice woman but is terrible at grading especially. I am an A student and ended with an F in this class. I had a high C in the moodle portion (graded by moodle) which I accepted because physics is hard. But she grades labs, gave me all Fs, which gave me an F in the whole class. Do not take this class if you care about your gpa.
Taking this class with professor Pavic is a waste of time. You will not retain anything because assignments are due back to back. You have 3 weeks to complete 3 chapters, 2 quizzes and a 2 part exam. Not to mention the 2nd part of every exam is 15 minutes with 20 plus questions every time. Lastly the way she grades labs is atrocious. TAKE ELSEWHERE
Online only provides recorded lectures that are too blurry to read. She has a very specific way she wants problems solved and you will not receive any credit unless you use her methods that are covered in the (blurry and illegible) recorded lectures. You will find yourself failing despite solving the problem correctly using a different method.
Pavic is too smart for her own good. I was told that if you do one thing incorrectly, the entire problem would be wrong because "in the world of physics this wouldn't be possible without that" even if we got everything else correct. Ok, so now we are not grading students on what they do know and faulting them for what they don't know? Ridiculous.
Just run! She not worth giving a try. Enroll in physics at rose state or OSU-OKC. Do not waist your money or risk your gpa with this woman and this class. She does not teach it but grades ridiculously hard.
This is not the class to take unless you are willing to work hard and dedicate more time than usual to a class. Professor Pavic is tough but will prepare you to excel in physics. Take advantage of her office hours. If you don't understand your grade or the feedback, make the time to ask. Go to class and repeat the problems until you get them right.
Couldn't understand what she said, when I would ask her how to do something for the first time she wouldn't explain instead she would say she has already shown me or it was in a textbook.
Worst professor ever, doesn't grade assignment on time. Doesn't help you because she's busy all the time. Do not take this class with her if you want to take Physical science. Her grading methods are slow and she loses your homework and gives you a zero.
She has ridiculously tough grading standards while providing little to no feedback. Really hard to communicate with and rarely returns email.
Great professor who is very knowledgeable in her field. Class can be difficult if you are not the most comfortable with your science skills however, if you keep on top of your assignments and study hard you'll be fine. Pavic does seem cold at first but she is actually really sweet if she sees you put in the work.
She knows what she's talking about, but she is incredibly difficult to understand. She also tends to make things much harder than they need to be.
Avoid this professor at all costs. She is cold and does not know how to connect with students. I believe not even one person passed that class with an A. She lectures very hard, and I could not understand what she would say sometimes, I barely passed the class.
Very hard grader. She is a good person but she is better off not teaching at all. When I had her for my PHY-1114 class she would go on tangents that would stray away from the topic. She would also lose track of time or get there late.
If you have a learning disability, find someone else. The many hours of homework made it impossible for me to understand the material. I was in the class for a month, and she never provide feedback on my work. Currently I'm recovering from this terrible class experience.
Not meant to be a teacher. The class was taught as we were children rather than students. From day one the desire to learn physics quickly dies. She focuses more on useless rules than actually teaching. By far the worst teacher I experienced at this school.
Terrible professor, harsh final, avoid at all costs. Likes trick questions and doesn't curve, incredibly low pass rate
This class is notoriously difficult, but using resources like unstuck study alongside the textbook can really help. The professor is knowledgeable but often loses focus. Attend every lecture and be prepared to put in serious study time.
Only attempt this class if you already know all the material, You will recieve zeros and the feed back will just be a giant red question mark by your work. I seen the reviews before attempting the class, i knew it was going to be tough, and it was alot tougher than i expected. Very tough grader, very strict, very high ego.
If you do not know any physics be prepared to fail this class. Knowing the material is one thing but if you don't write the work exactly how she presents it in class then no credit. If you to go to office hours for help she may just call you dumb. Have a thick skin and be prepared for loads of super difficult work and very harsh grades. Good Luck!
I never wore my seatbelt while driving to OCCC to get to her class because I hoped that a semi truck would struck me before I got to her class again.
I wanted to die every second I was in her classroom. She is an actual menace to society. Do not take her class unless you want to be clinically depressed for the next 16 weeks. I would recommend quitting your job, cutting off all social activity, and never doing anything but eat, sleep, and study if you want even a slight chance to pass.
When I first started this class I was in a great place mentally. By the end of it all I wanted was for it to be over so I never had to come back. She is extremely test heavy and we were all scared to go up and ask her questions about anything, because she would make you feel like you were dumb for even asking. I barely passed the class, thank God.
She is easily the worst professor I've had, I wouldn't recommend taking her course at all. Your better off taking it at a different college and paying more.
If you have a problem understanding Slavic accents, take another class. If you do have to take her course, make sure this is the only difficult science class you're enrolled in for the semester. Make sure to attend every day and take thorough notes during her lectures. Expect to study close to 10 to 12 hours a week.
She graded very hard on Exams, and her accent is very heavy so be aware.
Trust the reviews.
Don't take this class if you enjoy having good mental health.
I think ppl are too harsh when they rate her. Her accent isn't that heavy, and it doesn't restrict her word usage or pronunciation too much. She explains everything well and she outlines the examples and concepts that will be on the test word for word most of the time. This is a hard class but if you study it is possible to do well or just pass.
Professor Pavic genuinely cares about you understanding the information that is being taught. You will spend a lot of time studying, but she tells you exactly what you need to know. It is tough, but absolutely doable if you work hard. People are honestly too harsh in their ratings of her and her course. Very good sense of humor!
Worst professor I have ever had. Everyone was scared to ask questions and if you did one thing wrong she would kick you out of the class.
don't do it
Do NOT take this class with Pavic! She is a very hard grader, and exams are with 60% of your grade. She has a slight accent that makes it hard to understand her at times. She doesn't tell why your answer is wrong on exams, quizzes, homework, she just leaves questions marks on your paper.
Best physics professor at OCCC! She's honest, challenges you, and pushes you to learn. If you want the easy route, don't take her. If you want to grow, and be prepared for future classes, she's the one. She changed my life and made me a way better student. I struggled and she was always there. Those who complain just weren't ready.
She crams 6 tests plus a final into one semester (and grades them very harshly). She will be very vague about when things are due, but strict when you miss a due date. Her accent is also very heavy and makes it so hard to understand her. I went to tutoring 3 times a week every week, and still barely passed. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE WITH HER.
Definitely find someone who has taken the class before to see if they have anything that can help you, I figured that out a little late. Still passed though! She will start the class running so don't fall behind. Be prepared to spend lots of long hours studying!
