She's very quirky and engages the class well. Lots of discussion/group work which is very helpful for papers. Grades very fairly. Very helpful if you have questions and I found her very funny!

I was never strong with my english but if you work really hard in her class, you'll do fine. Hard work pays off and she will be by your side to help you. I recommend taking her. She's a sweetheart.

My favorite prof to date, Ivanna is helpful, kind, and fair. She will let you know exactly what you need to do in order to improve your writing. She is somewhat disorganized, so if that's a major thing for you then you should prepare yourself for that. Personally I am also very disorganized so I kind of liked it!

I felt very lucky to get Ivanna as an instructor - she engages the class really well, has a quirky sense of humour, and is knowledgeable. The class involved taking a critical look at pop culture, so the subject matter was always relevant. Ivanna's the bomb - she should give classes to other instructors on how to teach, she's that solid.

At the beginning of the class I was getting a B-, and with consistent work I somehow managed to drop to a C. But she's a good prof and the class is easy, however she's quite inconsistent with her marking. She well prepares you for the essays and helps you when needed. I definitely recommend her regardless of my end grade. Attendance isn't mandatory

So far my favourite teacher at Douglas College. She's VERY understanding of your situation and will do anything she can to help. Very open to extensions if you need one. A very passionate, educated, and and lovely professor. If you excell in English great, if not then you will learn. I recommend the textbook, it's a great read and it's necessary.

Ivanna definitely means well, however that being said she is a very tough and particular marker. She explains exactly what she wants very well but has high expectations if you want an A or B. Honestly though she does help you become a better writer and participation really does matter during the in class discussions.

If you want to pass ENG 1130 take it with her. she is not the easiest prof but I think the best you will have for Eng 1130 class. she tries to make the class somewhat interesting. if you are just looking to get your grade and pass this class take it with her. she is easy to talk to. Her essay topics are pretty interesting for the final essay.

She was super helpful when I went to her office to go over my midterm outline. She told me to write exactly what's on my outline and I will do great. I did just that. I failed it! I approached her and she said "Oh, let me remark it" I was so angry. No, you mark it right the first time. Overall, I did better than an Eng tutor. TERRIBLE. Never again.

Academic Writing is not suppose to be easy. She is a great person who makes the best out of the situation. This will not help your GPA and you probably won't learn a lot but it does satisfy that English credit. Pick your English poison and this would be the best choice!

Ivanna was my favourite professor this past semester! She is super kind, relatable and funny. The content can sometimes be boring but she does her best to keep us interested. English used to be my best subject but in her class I mostly got C's. I guess you could say she's a tough grader- but obviously that will be different for everyone.

Ivanna is a very difficult professor, but I feel like she teaches the material very well. Her lectures make the course survivable and clear cut, even though the course material is extremely difficult. She marks hard, but this can be fixed by following the textbook, peer tutors, and asking for feedback. The mark you get matches the effort you put in

I don't know if she's an easy English professor but one thing that I noticed is that she's really free on extensions unlike other English professors. Lectures are interesting on some days. Makes you work for your grade like others and on the first 20% essay, gave really detailed feedback because she lets another person take a look at it as well.

The thing I loved most about Ivanna was how passionate she is when it comes to literature. Her enthusiasm in class shows that she genuinely loves what she's doing. Her responses to anyone's answers really show that she thinks there are no wrong answers. Only thing that I didn't like about her, was probably how she picked on people.

ENGL 1130 is a little bit difficult. You have to be prepared to actually research, revise, and edit your work MUCH more than what you've gotten used to in high school. She's kind of a hard marker but it pushes you to get out of your comfort zone and improve your writing. Don't hesitate to ask questions about your thesis, topic sentences etc.

Ivanna was my first teacher at douglas. I gained a really good perspective of douglas because of her. She's kind, cheerful person and as a teacher she is a reasonable marker.

Classes tended to drag on at times but other than that she's a great prof. Ivanna helps a lot with your thesis, and gives advice on how to structure you papers. Beware, this class is hard to begin with and you have to have a real good base to do well. Whether you have Ivanna or any other prof I would go to the learning center to get extra help.

Ivanna is great prof, I had her for two classes in my first semester at Douglas and she was very helpful in giving direction on how to improve my work. She was also very understanding when it came to extensions - as long as the reasons were valid. She does however call on people randomly so be papered to participate in class.

Ivanna Cikes is the best English Professor I've ever had. Ivanna, greatly improved my ability in writing essays for university classes. She gives great feedback and only looks to improve her students writing ability. Her classes are so interesting as well, she decided to make her ENGLISH 1106 class based on reading horror novels, SO COOL.

Dr. Cikes is a great professor when it comes to giving feedback and explaning things, but shes had the tendency to not be clear about due dates and the syllabus isnt even something you can follow for the semester. As for the marking, shes super tough and very specific to what she wants. Just dont skip her class bc shell notice!

I must give credit to Dr. Ivanna Cikes for breaking down the close reading and essay assignments for me during office hours. She is accessible outside of class, caring, and gives good feedback. I would recommend her to any students that need 6 credits of English for their program.

She is such an incredible person. I have taken 2 classes with her and I wish I could take more! She is very approachable and makes classes interesting. Her class, like all ENGL1130 classes, requires a lot of work but she is a fair marker and an exceptional teacher. I would take any of her classes.

Doctor Cikes is an amazing teacher! She makes you really work for your mark, so be ready for that. Chances are if you were not already a good English writer coming into the class, you will not finish it with a grade that is too high - but you will learn a lot from her feedback.

I would personally recommend this teacher if you are starting school again or having trouble with English. I normally don't leave feedback for anyone but in this case, the prof is very understanding when it came to her student, she ended up extending the deadlines, class had a chance to rewrite one of the essays, and the exam wasn't hard.

I was always unconfident about writing an essay because English is not my first language. Taking Ivanna's class helped me a lot to learn about writing, and her feedbacks were really helpful to develop my writing skills. Getting above B grade on writing class never happened to me before, but I got A- for final grade! I really enjoyed her class.

Inava is a very good instructor. Her Academic Writing class was my very first class in post-secondary, and it was essential in order to boost my skills. She is always willing to help and collecting feedbacks. We wrote about three essays, and the lectures during the semester are full of hints and tips, which will help any student to succeed.

Ivanna is a very kind prof and cares about her students. She is a tough grader but provides good feedback which you should use. Grading takes a while to receive back. Lots of peer editing and group work during lectures which counts for participation marks.

This professor is very open-minded and loves learning from students. Tips will be given on how to properly structure essays and arguments. Set up meetings before key due dates to get feedback on papers before handing things in. Beginner course so marking is more lenient than usual. Highly recommended. One of the best classes I've had in four years.

A better version of my high school AP English teacher! She has great lectures, an amazing sense of humour, and a lot of great stories. Grading may sometimes be strict, but as long as you follow the hints and tricks taught within the course, you'll do fine. For somebody who's pretty good at writing essays, this course still required a lot of effort.

Cikes is quite charismatic and makes classes very fun. When the class asked for more time for an assignment, she was flexible with due dates. Cikes is a hard marker but that is because she wants to see students improve their writing. She gives good feedback is always kind when pointing out what can be improved.

I've taken Ivanna's classes in the past so I was excited to take ENGL1102. As always the lectures were fun and the assignments were challenging. Ivanna was understanding when there was an issues with a grader and let the class get a FREE rewrite on top of the rewrite we do at the end of the semester. She always reliped to emailed quickly and she actually cares about you, she wants you do to well in her class. The only issue I had was due dates were confusing and the film analysis topic was confusing.

I took English 1130 and do not enjoy English classes however Ivanna teaches the subject in a interactive manner and makes "boring" content exciting. She may seem like a tough grader at first but she is only pushing you to do the best and as long as you put an effort in a good grade is most definitely achievable as she rewards self-improvement.

I love Ivanna as a teacher she makes the class fun and engaging. Definitely recommend taking any one of her classes especially her GSWS ones!!! Not to much homework, there is one midterm, and at least 2-3 papers within the semester. A final at the end as well but everything is well taught during the course which makes the final really simple to do.

Ivanna Cikes intertwined and explained literature and culture with "Interpreter of Maladies" by Jhumpa Lahiri, "A Cup of Water Under My Bed" by Daisy Hernàndez, and "Brother" by David Chariandy. Through effective class discussions, the topic was learnt.
