Jeff Waller is awesome! he is a wonderful teacher and extremely fair !
Excellent professor! He has made me love math! This professor is very clear and will do everything in his power to help his students. Jeff really loves math and seeks out new ways to gain knowledge of the sublect. He has an incredible way of relating material to the individual. If you want to have fun and really learn math, take jeffs' class!
He's really good at math and is fun to learn from. On time with returning assignments. Always willing to help. I will take his classes whenever I can.
I was very impressed by the clarity of his explanations and his enthusiasm for the subject. I HATE math with a blinding passion, but he somehow made it make sense and kept it interesting. Highly recommend!!
Excellent Teacher! Even though class was at 7am, I didn't mind going. Very clear in explantions, always willing to take time to help inside or outside class. Graded fairly, would Highly recommend. Will take his class whenever possible. Great Tennis player as well!
I am dissapointed with this professor. His notes are unclear. When I do my homework and refer to my classnotes only half of what you will need to know is in those notes. I write everything down he says and it is very difficult to understand. Geometry is supposed to be easy yet I am struggling. The textbook isn't very good. It doesn't have much of an answer key. So if you are doing your schoolwork and need to check your work, you are stuck. Take this class only if you can go to the math lab regularly!
I thought that this teacher was very good. In class, notes were pretty good, but feedback in homework (which there was a lot of) and in tests was not very clear. Make sure you study a lot!
Patient teacher who quickly diagnoses what's blocking an individual from learning a given concept.
I took this class as a short 8 week course and passed with an A!! I struggled through this class 2 semesters ago and got an F. The whole class thought he was an excellent teacher. If you can, take him.
I agree with the previous comment about Jeff: His homework feedback is unclear and seems sarcastic in attitude. He seems nice but...makes many immature comments, that I think HE thinks are funny... but aren't. Made a few covert **** comments too.True he deff. knows math and how to teach it, but.. needs more professionalism! He is very clear though
Jeff plays favorites and grades accordingly. Ex. wrong (same) answer on a test: -2pt for someone he likes, -4pt for someone he doesn't like. He is also very petty. Ex. He "forgets" to record assignments, giving you a zero. He is sarcastic. Ex. the "feedback" on the hw. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone. Bottom line, Jeff Waller is completely unpro
Great teacher! He really cares about his students. The people who wrote mean comments about this teacher are the cause of their own problems. Jeff will help you understand the assignments and makes himself available outside of the classroom. Many of the other students were not completing the assignments, or even paying attention in the class (If th
Jeff Waller is unprofessional. I base this comment on his grading policy. His grades are based on whether he likes you or not. BTW I earned an A in the class. As I said in a reply to a previous comment "Jeff has his pets and if you are not one of them, you will not enjoy his class".
dont know what all the bad remarks are about, jeff is a laid back guy that is extreamly knowlegable with mathmatics. Doesnt hound any students for homework, he understands that his students are all adults and can make their own decisions. I dropped the class because i fell behind, but will arrange my schedule around his next class.
Very easy going, very helpful. One of the best Math instructors I have every had.
Jeff is freaking AWSOME!! He is so helpful, and his class is so much fun!! I would totally take any of his classes again!!! And what a cutie!!!
Teacher is very helpful. Class is actually more interesting than I expected. You will do well as long as you do the homework everyday.. don't fall behind. The text book kind of sucks though...examples don't really follow the instructors.
jeff is a great teacher, if you get behind in homework he'll slow down the class for you. he doesn't move on to the nest subject unless everyone gets it. he also lets you make test, quiz, and homework corrections, helping you boost your grades. keeps you exicted about learning math, beat teacher to take
I thought Jeff was a wonderful teacher, I had a lot of fun in his 8 week class. I'm an English major - usually cannot understand math. But his explanations were very clear and he was helpful if they weren't. I recommend this class.
Best teacher ever!!! He treats you like a real college student, unlike some teachers who think you are still kids! Keep up with the homework, and study for the tests with his study guide, and you will do great!
I took 2 8 week courses with him and I hate math but I loved his class! He taught me so much and made it really easy. He is also a fair grader too
Jeff is a great teacher. I took his class this summer for Math 110. He's really easy going, and keeps you laughing as you learn math. If you don't understand something, Jeff will give you the time you need to fully understand what he is teaching. I thoroughly recommend him for Math 110.
Geat teacher! He really is interested in making sure that everyone understands the material and gives you plenty of opportunities to raise your grade. He seems kind of hyper which makes the class go by quickly and it is enjoyable. However, you have to keep up with the homework, otherwise you won't understand a thing. He is clear and very smart.
Good teacher, nice guy, reasonable person. He's excited about what he does. Very helpful with any problem you have. Take this guy for Math 120!
he's a cool guy to listen to because he injects some fun stuff into the course material. really nice guy, always has a smile on his face. he makes an expansive class as simple as possible. homework is daily and mandatory, but really gets you truly ready for his easy tests
Awesome professor! Hes defintely not dull and makes sure the class works at a reasonable pace. Doesn't suffocate you with homework...I was a first year student and he's made my first impression of college math an excellent one! Everythings cumulative so if you do not do to well on quizzes don't be bummed out..in his clas you definitely got a chance
Good teacher... I highly recommened him. Many opportunities to raise your grade after the test. However, doing hw is neccessary for you to success in this class !!!
Waller is a good math teacher. During class he goes over math problems from homework or fom the chapter. He is really dedicated to his students and on many occasions stayed after to make sure his students understood math problems. Will definitly need book and to get a passing grade will need to do homework.
Jeff is a great instructor, I took two classes (103 & 160) with him and got a B in both of them without doing all the homework, BUT you should do it if you want to get a good grade. He gives you a lot of opportunities to revice hw, quizes and tests, which help you get a better grade. He is funny and helps you a lot, I would reccomend him!! and he's
great teacher for differentials and linear algebra. Very understanding and wants you to succeed in his class.
Best math teacher I've ever had in my life. Funny, interesting, and easy to understand. Brings great clarity to the supject with his understanding and passion for the subject.
Best Math teacher I have had. Very clear in lectures and great in turning the math into something more understandable. Lets you correct HW and tests for more points. All around cool teacher.
He's awesome. He welcomes different ways of thinking - as long as you get the right answer and you can prove it, he'll accept it. He was very encouraging, and fun. I took a 6 week class and it was a breeze. I wish I had to take more Math :) He also welcomes questions and ideas.
He is extremely helpful! Just go to his office hours if you are struggling and do all of the homework. His tests have alot of partial credit so you cant really do that poorly... I struggle in math and he really helped me out! He is super nice as well ... I RECOMEND him 100%
He is so far not a bad instructor at Grossmont!!! He has to work a little harder on the following: he has short lectures(well we are paying for his lectures), makes a lot of mistakes and sometime can’t even solve the problems for homework, says that will be able to help u during his office hours but don’t even think of it is west of time I got B be
Not the best teacher for Math. He sees it as an insult if you question him or ask for clarity during his lectures... Easy grader…A lot of extra credit opportunities…
Great teacher. He kind of likes to talk to himself in third person… “Hey Jeff,” “Way to go Jeff.” Lots of homework but its only with 5% of your grade. The actual tests are much easer then the practice tests and he gives them back the next day.
Great stats teacher! He's a funny guy and likes to relate the math problems to current events. He gives you opportunities to make quiz and test corrections to bring up your grade plus he is always available to help you out!
A real fun dude!
a nice person, but very unorganized. he is constantly corrected in class by his own students and on our final review packet some of the answers on the answer sheet were done completely incorrectly.
Waller is accessable and approachable. Reasonable amount of homework but his tests and Quizes are easy. Lets you make up problems you missed on the test for points. Has an easy going attitude and the way he runs his class is chill. Able to inspire you to want learn more.
in the beginning i was dreading math. i thought it would be a mircale if i at least passed with a c- but jeff made math so simple. i understood most of the equations and he is one of the rare teachers that actually tells you some of the history behind the problems. i loved his class and i am getting a B right now so i would definitly recommned him!
He is an absolute sweetheart of a man!! He makes sure to take his time and really teach each section. He reviews what he taught the day before at the beginning of every class. Homework isn't due till the days of the tests. There are only four fairly easy tests and as long as you score 70 or above you can make up all the points by revising your test
If you have to take stats, take it w/ Jeff. He really cares about your success & he will make himself avail. to anyone who needs a little extra help. Truly a very nice guy. He prepares you thoroughly for everything you need to study for prior to ea. test & gives opportunities to make any corrections needed so you can understand the material.
do you want to turn in homework late (like the last day of the class) jeff waller is the man. Do you want quizes problems to show up on the test? waller is the man. do you want your final test to be short and simple? . Do you want to be respected? you will find that with waller. do you need extra help?GOTO WALLER.one thing, he his little bit fast.
I tottally agree with the comment below. This is the guy to choose if you are not a super math fun. He will be always open to help you. In class, by e-mail, office hours... anytime!!!! Awsome Professor!!
Math is my least favorite subject because I dont understand it at all (typically, I'd have to retake math during the summer in high school to pass), but Waller broke down math problems and made them easy to understand. GREAT math professor, and he actually cares about his students.
Jeff is one of the best teachers i've ever had! I easily got an A in this class & i hate math! Take him!
He is the sweetest guy ever. He helps you so much and is one of those teachers that make learning fun. Even if you hate math you will love going to his class. Very flexible with homework and gives you practice tests.
Amazing. He's funny, very helpful, and works hard to make the material understandable. Tests require clear understanding, but he gives practice tests beforehand, and you can correct tests & quizzes to improve your grade some. You have to do the homework (its ~1/2 of class grade), but if you do and you ask questions, you'll do very well.
Math is my least fav. subject! I really enjoyed him as a teacher! I've had him for my past 2 math classes! Take him!
Jeff is awesome! He goes really fast, but if you have a question, good or bad, he'll try to answer it as clearly as possible. He seems EXTREMELY smart and also seems to really care too. Chill, laid-back professor that loves the material. I would definitely take him again, as he made a 6 week Math 110 not too painful.
Jeff is awesome! I am not that great in math but he is helping me keep a high grade in a Stats class! He explains everything very well and cares about his students a lot. He is really chill and down to earth, do yourself a favor and take him you wont regret it at all!
He is the best professor at Grossmont College.
This is the best professor i've ever had in any math class. He is sooo helpful, and really cares about his students. Your allowed a formula sheet on every test, and test corrections following each quiz and test, which really saves students. He doesn't care about attendance, but if you want to get a good grade, you should go to class! awesome teache
This teacher rocks, his lectures TOTALLY MAKES sense. HES ALWays always always there to help you out! teacher of the year!!!!!!!
Easily the best math teacher I have dealt with. Lectures are very clear and not boring, Mr. Waller sets his students up for success in his classes. A+++ Teacher.
the class was hard, but Jeff is always there to help. He loves math and want you to pass. He is a great teacher.
Jeff is one of the best math professors(if not the best) at Grossmont. He is extremely helpful and patient and he has the most awesome personality of any professor I ever have taken. He lets students correct tests, quizzes and homework for xtra points! You rock Jeff!
Jeff is one of the best techers I have had at grossmont. He is really helpful and will take time to really be sure that you understand the material. He makes class fun and interesting. He even made time for study sessions before tests. He lets you correct quizes and tests so you can make up some points and the study guides are really helpful
Jeff is an awesome teacher. I hated math before taking his class and was extremely sceptical about taking a summer class, but he made it a breeze. He is very clear when he teaches and is always there to help out has good office hours and is fun! He is extremely smart and loves math and he'll make you love it to!!
He's pretty chill. He'll let you miss class, but he also will help you pass the class.
I absolutely love this teacher! I had failed math 90 once before and waited a year to retake it. I wish i had taken his class sooner! I got an A on my very first test and nothing lower than a B that followed. He made me love math and look forward to his class! I've never done so well in a math class as his. He cares and wants his students to pass.
Criticized my homework very harshly. Acted like he was teaching idiots since it was a math 90 class. Made me feel worthless since I was poor at math. Should not be teacher to a low class low level class if he's making us feel like we were below him.
I think that Waller is a wonderful teacher, very helpful, very respectful to all his students, humble, and very generous with math info. On top of all these wonderful things about him he's VERY attractive ;)which keeps many of his students interested. His love for math really shows which makes his lectures an A+++ best math teacher ever!!
Jeff is an enthusiastic and helpful teacher. He went above and beyond for our class which I felt was impressive! Math is a subject that I've never been able to connect to and, often, causes me to panic.... but I got an A in this class. Although I did do my part, it helped to have a professor that really cares about his students succeeding.
Jeff loves math and he'll make you love it too. Very interesting, great personality, fantastic teacher!! Take his class!!
Good teacher. Easy Class. Interesting concepts covered.
Nothing is boring in Waller's class because every concept comes alive when he teaches. He'll make you smile and laugh, but most importantly you'll learn the material forwards and backwards. His grading system is very fair--he gives partial credit and allows corrections. Take Jeff if you want to work hard, learn well and have fun!
Great teacher. 6 week class is intense avoid if you can. Lots of homework to turn in. Gives reviews and practices quizzes before exams/test. I'm taking him again next semester.
AWESOME DUDE!!! Hes cool just ask alot of question and you will do great in his class!!! :D
AMAZING teacher! Very helpful and loves to teach math. Class is easy if you do the homework and pay attention. Attendance isn't mandatory but is a good idea. Take Mr. Waller he's a great teacher and very helpful!!! Tests are very easy and much like the practice tests.
I didn't do too well in this class, but Jeff is one of the best math professor's I've had. His enthusiasm for the subject really shows and its his determination to make it understood coupled with his great humility that gives you a different perspective of stats..coming from someone who was initially allergic to math. Its not so bad after all.
Mr. waller is a wonderful teacher. He is very patient, and is completely committed to student success. I look forward to taking him again.
Mr. Waller is a great teacher- funny, patient, and kind. I really enjoyed his class and highly recommend him. He spends alot of his own time helping students by setting up workshops and whatnot as well.
Jeff is an excellent math teacher. I've never understood math so much in my life! The way that he explains everything makes math seem easy and fun! It almost makes me want to take more math classes, even though I hated math before this class! I highly recommend him as a teacher.
To be honest. He is okay. Nice, and enthusiastic. But his way of explaining Math 160 for people who dont have familiarity with Statistics is very confusing. He dosen't put enough time for calculator usage.Pluse his lecture with the book are not compatible I couldn't figure out his way of teaching don't take him if you are not familiar with stats
Very confusing! I didn't feel his way and the book way are symmetric. I don't recomend him at all. You should have an idea about stats to be able to follow him! Very FAST to!
Jeff is the best math teacher i can ever think of. He knows math and he knows ho to teach people. He will solve any math problem you ask him and also clear and consistent. He is so hyper in class and makes you not feel sleepy. Easy grading, he just want you to know and if you appear in class and work with him for sure A is yours.
He truley is a sweetheart. If you are having trouble he will explain it to you as many times as needed. Great teacher! just do the homework, study, and you will do just fine. Like everything it requires effort but he is incredibly helpful and clear about the topics.
Extremely helpful. I have never understood math at the level I have begun to understand with him. The class is easy if you just pay attention to his lectures and do the homework, which he doesn't even give too much of. :)
I have had very few teachers that could communicate excitement for a subject like Waller. If you have a pulse and even half pay attention, you will find yourself drawn in. He is not the least bit intimidating, so it is not at all difficult to ask questions on anything. One of the finest teachers I have ever met.
He is a very funny teacher that helps everyone get every concept, he even puts his lectures on utube which I've never heard of but I've watch a number of them and they are great, I plan on taking all my math classes as him as my teacher. He gets math and loves math and has fun with teaching it.
Awesome teacher! He is really funny and quirky. He is very clear about what you need to know. Does everything he can to help everyone succeed. Makes himself very available for office hours and meeting with students. One of the best teachers I have ever had.
This was the first math class I've ever actually enjoyed. Jeff is a phenomenal teacher who is clearly passionate about math, as well as helping his students. Not only was the professor fantastic, but the course was legitimately interesting. Jeff is a great guy, and I would seriously recommend taking this course with him.
This guy really knows how to teach, no kidding. If you are worried about math, even a little, take a class with Jeff. He is very good at captivating the class with a subject that most people don't seem to identify with. He is very friendly and funny. This is my favorite class this semester by a long shot.
Jeff knows math inside and out. He teaches it with passion, not only that he's funny, but intelligent. He is fun too!!! I highly recommend this guy!
Great sence of humor and really makes it easy to understand the material for the homework, quiz, and tests.
Excellent teacher, uses entertaining Calvin and Hobbes references. Got me through a 6 unit pre-calc with a good grade and an awesome knowledge base. Would take again.
His class is impossible to fail. He let's you correct tests and quizzes to make up for half of lost points. He is very funny and entertaining. He gives good lectures but doesn't cover all the material, so it's up to you to read. If you want an A, don't take him because there's not extra credit. If you don't care about an A, take him, you'll love it
Awsome experience great teacher
The best teacher that I have ever have in my life I got 99%
Took the class in summer, very faced paced but Mr.waller made the class fun and enjoyable. Show up in class, do your homework and you will get your desired grade
He is a very funny teacher and he always keeps things interesting. I like that he records every class lecture and puts it on youtube for students to watch later. Unfortunately though, he has horrible writing and some of the problems he couldn't even solve himself. I know he means well, but he skipped steps without explaining and it was confusing.
This guy makes up his tests before closed and always screws them up. Says "are you with me" when he doesn't know how to solve his own problems in order to stall. Another clown at Grossmont College. Don't take him you will regret it.
Not alot of reviews on waller for calculus two so here mine goes. His class is extremely difficult. I got an B+ in calculus 1 and in this class im barely struggling to keep my C. He does not give out any formula sheets. where as many other professors at grossmont for calc 2 do. In class you cannot read his writing and he goes way to fast and skips.
He seems friendly and has an upbeat attitude and a passion for math, but he doesn't believe that tests have to be anything like hw, grades hw scrupulously, puts problems on test he doesn't expect the class to be able to solve. During lecture he goes very fast and skips many steps. Calc 2 is a tough class anyway but his teaching methods don't help.
Waller is fantastic. He puts a great deal of effort into helping students, is in tune with his class's attentiveness level, and livens the room up with unexpected pop culture references. Now, he is not an easy professor. By the time you leave his class you will definitely "know your shii..," as he says. Be thorough with your homework to test well.
Great teacher!! I will definitely be taking him again! Unfortunately I didn't pass with a C to move on because I had a huge course load. He is super funny. Laugh at his jokes:p you can tell he gets a little butthurt when there is no reaction lol
110 was over summer and 176 in fall. I would have taken for 180 but he is teaching 280 so no go there i had to work for my A's but it is definitely doable if you do your homework and show up for class. Homework is not a huge part of your grade and he allows for corrections on tests and quizzes to get points back. He is very helpful and flexible.
Best math teacher ever!!
You can tell he cares about the students but I'm not a Fan of the way he teaches. I went to a tutor and felt he explained things much better then him and he is a very tough grader on homework, quizzes everything and stats is not an easy class but he doesn't cut you much slack. hes funny guy but a ok teacher.
I have always had a passion for math but due to past teachers that passion slowly died off. Jeff has brought back my love for math. His lectures are fun and interactive and he gets really excited about the dorkiest things. You can just tell this is one smart guy, and he's got that hot teacher thing going for him. I will definitely take him again.
the exam is very long, and he doesnt give you formula sheets. you have to learn mostly by yourself. expect to do homework, if u do the homework wrong, he will mark it and return for u to correct it and turn it in again in order to get full credit. he has correction for exam and quizzes with worth 5 points. still pass with an A but i did work hard
Super awesome on explaining why and how the equations are solved. Not just assigning work to send you off to figure them out. He wants more than just the answer. Building a good understanding of the math foundation will help people like me who's Major (Biology) requires working up to Calculus! Great instructor!
I was afraid of Statistics, that it would be difficult and boring, but Waller made it simple and interesting. I enjoyed coming to class. He is great at interacting with students and engaging the class. You can tell he loves his subject, and he is so full of energy it is fun just watching and listening to him. I miss his class (I took it FA2014).
He's a really amazing and great professor. All lectures always focused on what we should know, are easy to understand, well organized and have clear examples. Try doing the practice before quiz or test, you'll definitely get above B. Recommend to take his classes.
He's the funniest Math teacher I've had at Grossmont! I love when he crosses all his fingers and says "maybe, maybe". Anyway, he records his lectures and puts it on YouTube. Lectures are great, conveys the material well. Read book and come prepared.
Jeff helped me with my fear of math. I've always dreaded it but I got an A in his class. He gives you so many opportunities to get a good grade, and he's very willing to help his students. I would definitely take his class again.
Excellence is earned; Waller wants you to earn an A. Intelligent and Funny, Professor Waller is on my list of all time favorite teachers. I can only hope he opens a 281 Chapter in the Fall of 2016.
The best instructot ever!
I LOVE Jeff! He is the best professor at Grossmont. He's funny, records his lectures on YouTube, and allows you to do test/homework/quiz corrections. If you want a good grade, do the homework and study! I wish I needed more math courses for my major because I'd take him again in a heartbeat.
Jeff is a great professor. He records all of his lectures and posts them online in case you missed class. He's positive and upbeat.
Waller is hard. I am usually a A+ student and I had to WORK for this class. Only through private tutoring, a lot of study time and office hours did I get a B. Don't expect much helpful feedback, he is very vague. Homework is plentiful, but occasionally he assigns some sections as extra credit. Practice tests and to the point, honest tests.
I got a C- in stats in high school because i got the worse teacher. I thought I sucked at stats. I showed up to Waller's class and just payed attention to the lectures and did the homework. Took a lot of studying but managed to get an A in the class. He is available to talk to him about anything whether it is homework or tests. Great teacher!
I got a bad grade in high school because i got the worse teacher. I thought I sucked at stats. I showed up to Waller's class and just payed attention to the lectures and did the homework. Took a lot of studying but managed to get an A in the class. He is available to talk to him about anything whether it is homework or tests. Great teacher!
He's smart and funny. However, his way of teaching Math 281 may be not suitable for everyone. If you are the type of student who is willing to read the WHOLE textbook by YOURSELF to get the materials, feel free to take him. But if you want a clear, thorough, and well-prepared professor, you should reconsider. International students as well.
this professor gets good rating for classes below calc 1. he should take a clue and not teach classes above calc 1. he's a disaster. gives a lot of homework, and his practice exams are not like his exams. just a waste of time. i got a d, and i have 3.8 overall gpa. just saying, don't take him if you have other classes.
he is bad. take someone else.
He is great, polite and professional professor , I recommend to take his class always.
Str8 up he's too picky on little things when grading but he allows you to correct anything and get up to 5 grade points back! And yes, he assigns a lot of hw, but I really don't understand people complaining about this when you DO need to PRACTICE/DO HW to learn anything MATH related. Not the easiest A but if you do your HW you will do just GREAT.
First math class I've taken that can punish you for memorizing specific techniques to solve each problem over conceptual mastery. Don't expect him to hold your hand and USE OUTSIDE RESOURCES. His lectures weren't my cup of tea, but his course was a challenge and his feedback is the best I've had so far. Good prep for upper level math.
This guy was patronizing . Tells jokes in the middle of explaining an equation and completely derails those who are trying to understand concepts the first time. Doesnt allow notes on tests cuz he says you wont learn that way. In real life when my boss asks me to draft development projects for urban planning, I can use reference sheets and notes
I really enjoyed this class. Jeff Waller cares about making sure students understand the concepts and does this by making lectures hilarious so that you remember things. He always specifies exactly what he wants on tests, making them straightforward. Just do the homework and you'll be fine for the tests. Take him, he's a top notch teacher!
Way too careless & full of himself to lecture properly
One of the worst classes i have taken by far. I honestly really tried in this class but the teacher does not give you the examples and help you need. He is literally just there to tell you about concepts and not show you how to use them. You must figure out everything yourself with little to no help. He has a great personality but horrible teacher.
Watch his lectures on Youtube. They are evidence that he does not lead students toward the right direction. His lectures are pointless and he is helpless.
The worst math professor i've ever had. Talks, constantly, about how other math professors don't match up yo him. Yet he doesn't teach at all! He never gives clear examples (sometimes he doesn't even finish the examples) and still has the nerve to expect you to understand all the concepts in the course. Save yourself and don't take his class.
I will not say this is the worst class i have taken because he is a funny teacher. However, Calc 3 is way more interesting to be learned from him. I do not think he is the right teacher for that. I worked so hard for his class, yet to get a B. I was a 4.0 student, and a math tutor in States and could not resist his class.
Jeff Waller is a great professor. I wish I had more math classes to take, so I could have another class with him - funniest professor ever, and a very fair grader. Lets you earn some points back on tests/ quizzes if you submit corrections.
not very good. one of those people who understands detail and math but not the real world. that's why he's a teacher! take someone else.
AMAZING PROFESSOR EVER.
Amazing lecture, you will learn a lot in his class.
He lets you correct your quiz and test grades so you really can't fail his class.
He lets you correct your tests and quizzes so that's amazing because there's no excuse for failing . I also like how he explains his work not just because that's math but he teaches you WHY we do it which helps understand it better . He does skip steps though so you have to refer to his worksheets for the full work.
You could completely understand statistics do all the assignments and tests and get a b. You could hardly know anything do all the assignments and get a b or at least a c. This course is based heavily on semantics and formula regurgitation. Doing stuff his way, etc. Few parts of stats (atleast this level) is based on true derived math.
A cool guy. He posts all of his lectures on youtube and I know people that took stats with other professors but still used Waller's videos for further clarification. Homework isn't worth too much, it's the tests that really matter. You can correct your tests which saved me. I hate stats but he made it bearable.
Jeff is a great professor! Attendance is not taken, but if you miss class you are missing out on a lot of information. He likes to explain why we do certain things in math instead of just telling you to do it (which is very helpful). He is also a very funny man. I recommend taking any of his math classes.
Jeff is a great instructor and has a great sense of humor. One of my favorite teachers so far. He really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He let's you correct all your tests, quizzes, and homework. Which saved me! Make sure you take good notes and actually do the homework. Oh, and the textbook for his class is FREE.
Overall caring professor. However get propared to invest extra time at the tutoring center and teach most topics your self. Very concusing at times sense he teaches you things while in lesson that have nothing to with whats at hand now. Also I do not apperciate the sublimal insulting of your knowledge of math. The occational iam supieor and yournot
Jeff is amazing, makes a two-hour lecture enjoyable and meaningful. Total of 3 tests plus the final, homework is due day of the test with a couple quizzes which he gives a heads up before. Clearly teaches the topic, no off-topic rambles. It is extremely important to show up to class and DO THE HOMEWORK! Do the homework and you'll for sure pass!!!
Waller's a really solid prof. He puts his lectures on youtube, but honestly it's easier to learn form the book than his lectures. That being said he's really accessible and will help if you're stuck on something. He also allows you to do corrections on hw, quizzes and exams. Look at his syllabus online for details.
I loved Math and i passed with a A in my pre-req for Math 110. When I took Waller's class it was not the best experience for me. HE GOES OFF A LOT IN TANGENTS gives chance to raise your test/quiz grade. His tests and quizzes are pretty good but his lectures overall are terrible. Definitely really fast paced too!
He is a very funny teacher, makes the class fun. Do the work and you'll pass. I would love it if he taught pre calc but sadly he doesn't. Tests are easy and lets you revise them all the way up to the next test. You can still revise them all the way up to the final but not for the same amount of points. It's an easy A as long as you do your work.
One of the hardest class that you will ever take. If you are a 4.0 student like I was, please don't get your GPA down and go look for another teacher. I didn't understand anything from him, his tests look nothing like what he teaches honestly, he doesn't help at ALL, the class average was in the D range so... I guess that explains it all!
Even at 7am, he makes the best out of it. As my first math college course, i'm lucky to have chosen his class. Always checks up on the class for understanding. Do the homework, attend the class, finish the worksheets, and you will pass. Quizzes/Test are exactly like the worksheets. Great guy
Professor Waller is great at what he does. His sense of humor and teaching style may not be for everyone, but it made the class entertaining. There was a lot of homework but it forced you to practice the material so it is helpful. Tests were straightforward. Waller always kept his office hours so if you needed help he was there.
Mr. Waller was a very good teacher for both Math 180 and Math 160. Overall, however, I would definitely try to avoid his Math 180 because of the extreme amount of homework only worth 5%. His Math 160 was definitely better! I surveyed his intersession course and there was little homework. Besides homework, Mr. Waller is a great teacher for any math!
Hes an awesome math teacher! Not only is he a goofy, funny guy but he explains math concepts really well and encourages lots of questions. He records all of his lectures and puts them up on the YouTubes He really seems to enjoy what hes doing and is high energy and gets you excited for math. Honestly my favorite class this semester.
as a person, I really like this teacher, but his lectures arent my style. In class the material will make sense, but the homework seems as if its based off of different information. Ive spent hours in the tutoring center and am still struggling to pass this class. Make sure to complete all homework and really focus on practice exams/quizzes
I absolutely love Waller! He's so goofy and funny. Everything he explains is always very clear and he also never misses class, so you get your money's worth. He is always available to talk to and his lectures are available on youtube. Never once was he rude to me or my classmates. I will most defiantly take a class with him again. GREAT TEACHER!
Good professor but kinda hard to understand his way of teaching sometimes. He's very funny and has a lot of energy and passion. A lot of outside help and records his lectures so you can look back at it. Homework was harder, it doesn't go along with the material. Practice test and study guides are very helpful.
Professor Waller is so funny! I have always been that person who says I'm horrible at math and it isn't my thing, but I proved myself wrong in this class. I had to work maybe a little harder than some, but if you put in the effort and do all of the homework you will do fine. Also take advantage of his office hours and FREE tutoring!!!
He really knows the material and breaks it down, so you can understand. He counts test and homework, attendance, and sometimes does exam corrections. Show up be prepared to learn. He definitely does his part as a professor; therefore, making it easier to be a student. He makes you work. Do not take for an easy A, but take if you want to learn.
Mr. Waller's over and beyond, great teaching methods got through to me. Finally, a teacher that can communicate the language of math. It took me many semesters of math to finally understand what I am looking for, what I am doing, and what is being said. I am VERY happy, time well spent!
Jeff will make any math teacher you've ever had look super lazy. He has a way of explaining what he is teaching in terms that are easily understandable. The homework assignments are challenging at times, but as long as you are present for his lectures you should pass with no problem. His lectures are very consistent with the material in the book.
Such a bad professor, does not grade your homework until the day of the final so you don't know what your grade will be in the class. He gives a ton of homework, so it is hard to keep up. I would never take him for stats again, he is a very hard grader and marks you down for little mistakes on the quizzes and homework. 0 Rating for this professor!
This Professor gives us a lot of homework. I can say for sure, he is tough grader. Dont waste your time for him.
Professor Waller is a good professor, quizzes are really easy, got like a 90 or above on them most of the time. If there was one thing I did not like was the hw, takes a long time to do and have to redo or make corrections if he marks them incomplete, really easy to make up, they are just time consuming. I wish I have him for my math class now.
Incredible professor. As someone who hates math and has taken multiple classes over again professor Waller is incredible at explaining things and really wants you to succeed if you need help he gives plenty of opportunities to do well. if you are missing some fundamental building blocks in math that have kept you from passing this is the guy.
Professor Waller's lectures are usually straightforward. If you want to understand the concepts you need to show up to the lectures. The textbook was not the best at explaining things. Mr. Waller was very good at communication. He had plenty of office hours and was also a very understanding teacher. The class never felt rush or hectic.
You turn in all the HW, gives you half credit or no credit and you have to recorrect it by the end of the final and its not much points you earn. Well teacher but grading system is just horrible.
He's a strict grader but does it to make sure you're understanding the concepts. He doesn't give much extra credit, but he does allow you to correct your homework, quizzes, and midterm, so those are your options in bringing up your grade.
Waller is one of the most patient people I've ever known. I've been an A student since forever but this was the first class that made me work for it. There's a simple formula for Math 180. 1. Do the homework 2. Study like crazy before the tests 3. DO THE CORRECTIONS!! 4. Know your trig. Plus study guides and extra credit (!) on every. test.
He is a good professor, he's so respond for his student.
Get credit or half credit if the answers are answered thoroughly or not. More than half of my assignments received "Ok" meaning "full credit" and "correct" means "half credit." You could turn them in by the final to receive more credit though. I do NOT recommend this, but my friend did not do majority of the homework and still passed with B.
This professor was amazing. He was funny and defiantly knows how to teach a class. Very helpful and is always available for questions. I have never been good at math until this class. You definitely have to put in some work but it is worth the reward. His lectures are very thorough and as long as you show up for lectures you should pass easily.
HE IS THE BEST!
Great and entertaining lectures. So easy to talk to and ask questions. He records his lectures and posts them on youtube in case you miss anything so you can miss a couple classes. Keep up with homework and you can pass this class.
I took Mr. Waller years ago, and I still think of him here and there as I have advanced in my education. Some people teach because they want a job, some people teach because they are passionate. Mr. Waller has found his calling. He is extremely kind without being a pushover, and he's pretty funny. "kick a**!".
He is a great educator and extremely passionate, it is very dense subject matter but professor is great at explaining complex details while being funny and relatable. He is also empathetic, approachable, and an inspiring teacher! Thank you professor!
Waller is a great professor! He is very friendly, funny, and always ready to answer questions. The course is test and quiz heavy but you are able to do corrections on every single one. He offers extra credit. I would definitely recommend this professor! The only downside is he tends to skip steps to equations while lecturing.
Absolutely amazing teacher. Would take him for every class if I could. Truly cared about student's needs and helped them at every opportunity or pointed them to the resources they need. All lectures were question driven so were all on topic and explained the material in multiple ways. All lectures were also posted on YouTube. Absolutely recommend!!
There was never a dull moment in his class, his personality is entertaining and his teaching style is easy to follow. Doing the homework can be hard sometimes but it really helps to do it for the quizzes and tests. He always answers anybody's questions and never makes anyone feel dumb. Have recommended him to my friends because he is that great.
Makes lectures interesting and easy to follow. Answers questions of where you would have difficulty in class. Test and quizzes are fairly easy if you have done the homework. Does give out a lot of homework but helps! Gives out helpful handouts and doesn't report grading on Canvas. Record all lectures on his YouTube page, if you missed class.
Prof. Waller is amazing! I took him for Pre-calc which is pretty dense in material, but his teaching style made it easier to comprehend. He uploads each lecture to Youtube and shows up early so he can help students before class. He also allows corrections to help boost your quiz and test grades.
I loved Waller. I went through tough times while I took his math 176 class and he helped me through my personal life and through the class. Waller is a very tough grader but truly an amazing teacher. I still go back to visit him from time to time because of the impact he made on me.
Prof. Waller is Canva's #1 hater and I respect that. Lots of HW that's not worth much, but I found that I didn't have to study as hard for tests/quizzes because I was already familiar with the material. Tests, quizzes, and HW can all be corrected. He gives us very detailed grade sheets so we know our standing & is always happy to help.
Professor Waller's lectures are clear and engaging. While the course material is dense, he breaks it down well. Attending class and using the free textbook are key to doing well. I found unstuck ai super helpful for study prep too.
Great Techer he teaches the material perfectly, no mistakes on the board as he gives full details. He's very helpful during office hours. But his exams are really hard so dont expect him giving out a handout.
Prof. Waller is a phenomenal instructor. He gives you opportunity to reasonably correct yourself throughout the semester. If you are to study properly and follow the homework, you will be successful. Sit up front and pay attention as well. If you want to cheat through, don't even try.
Waller is difficult with his fast paced lectures and with his sloppy handwriting makes it hard to learn the lessons The book is really confusing and really hard to understand how to learn linear algebra I wouldnt reccomend going to his office for help he makes you fell stupid as he expects u to learn it Go to the tutor and watch youtube for help
If youre weak in math, avoid him. He oversimplifies alot of steps, leaving u in the dark, so you'll rely on his recommended book, which lacks depth. The homework is a long grind tyring to learn chapter by chapter. Get extra books to prep for his quizzes and exams they're even harder.
This class is sink or swim he speedrun lecture so its hard to keep up UR going 2B burn and exhausted from doing an endless amount of HW from the book B4 uhav little or no time study exam The practice test doesnt help since he makes it more hard He allow HW qz and exam correction but it wont help ur grade that much its only 5 pts for the entire exam
I dislike math, but Professor Waller's enthusiasm is inspiring and makes the material understandable. Attending his classes and engaging is essential. Overall, he's an excellent professor if you're willing to learn. Plus, if you don't like tests, he allows corrections to help improve your grade. Other than the hand written homework he's a 10/10!
Probably the best professor I've every had. Genuinely takes time to engage and listen to students and their questions. Adequate time to complete homework with online and paper options. Opportunities to correct hw, quizzes and tests until the end of the semester. Took him for pre calc and calc 2, wish I could take him for every class!!!
My 3rd time taking 284 he explains concepts clearly his teaching style may not be for everyone but he encourages students to explore multiple resources exams closely reflect the homework and quizzes he also offers corrections to everything he is honest about what he knows and also understanding of students situations If you have the chance take him
Waller is an amazing professor. As long as you stay on top of the lectures and ask questions when needed, you are sure to succeed. My past experiences with math have not been the best, but due to Wallers more than fair way of grading and teaching I received a good grade. I honestly loved his class 100% recommend, just make sure you do your part!
He doesn't explain things in a way that's my favorite, but he knows what he's talking about and will rephrase/explain if asked. He wants you to understand the material & pass. He thrives on questions; don't be afraid to ask. Always quick to email back, and he uploads all his lectures on youtube. Corrections for everything and some flexible grading.
He's enthusiastic and really cares about the students. His lecture style can be confusing, but he's always willing to help inside and outside of class. He allows homework and test corrections as well.
Amazing professor, he cares a lot about his students and their success in and out of the classroom. Good amount of homework for this class but gives great feedback!
I loved this class, the professor is very fun and interactive in his lectures. There is a lot of hands-on learning with him as well as personal practice. He is willing to explain things mutiple times if needed. You can turn in all the homework late in the day of the final and you will still recieve credit for the work. And drops lowest quiz score.
