He is very rigid in his approach and can be intimidating, but if you truly want to learn, there is no other teacher in the dept that comes close to being as good.
He's a very meticulous person, and if you make the slightest mistake on any assignment you will fail. However, in accounting computer applications I did learn how to use MS Excel very well, and I thank him for that.
Biggest dork you'll ever meet. He is boring as hell, but his test are easy. As long and you read the chapters and do your assignments you'll be fine with an A or B

so boring!
Best teacher I've ever had for accounting!
Okay, accounting is not an exciting subject, so the class is a little slow. But if you pay attention, you really get a lot from this guy and it's hard to get less than a B. The course is so easy, definitely take it with him.
Boring but easy
Very good, Knows his stuff, boreing yeah, homework lots

this guys absolutely sucks, he has first initial J. and no one knows what that stands for - I think it stands for jackass or jerk!
He is a great prof and tells you exactly what he wants. It is difficult to change his mind on anything (i.e. late assignment) Bascially slackers hate him, everyone else atleast sees he teaches well and what you see is what you get no surprises.
If you go to class and pay attention, yes they are extremely boring, you will learn everything you need to know for the tests, which make them quite easy.
Looks like Mr. Roger's less cool brother. Comatose boring, but you will learn enough in this class to carry you through ACCT 212. Lots of homework, tests on covered material. Make an effort you will do well.
He sucks, he is very monitune....BORING BORING BORING...Must seek additional help
Taking one of his classes is like being forced to watch 6,000 episodes of Oprah (in a row) while shaving your head with a dull knife and drinking bear puke. AVOID THIS CRAP!
Very Smart Prof. Knows what he is teaching. If you are acct major or if you want to learn accounting go for him else I dont recommend.
useful info but has no idea how badly i could beat him.
Class was extremely boring, but if you can pay attention and do the homework you will know everything for the tests. There won't be any suprises.
If you do the homework and look over the reading it will be an easy A. Lecutres get a little long and boring but not a hard class.
Those that can do and those that can't teach. Unfortunately, Bergin can't do either. Watch him stumble around the room or sit nonshalantly in his chair, face red, looking up at the ceiling; there is another ingredient in his Sprite bottle than pop.
Knowledgeable man, shouldn't ever be a teacher because he has no skill in teaching, just knowledge in accounting. Learn how to teach, then keep teaching. Go ahead and take this class if you hate your life and want to make it worse.
Dont explain a lot and you will be test on without clear explaination on how to solve the problem.
Okay, here's the deal: if you have a basic understanding of accounting, I would recommend him; otherwise, stay away! Lectures are VERY boring and he really doesn't explain anything(especially the homework problems... you have to figure it out for yourself). There's a lot of homework too and 5 tests
Bergin is a good professor. He's not the most fun fellow ever, but this is accounting, not social hour. He knows his stuff and explains it over and over again in handy slides. The homework isn't hard and the tests aren't bad. He's a good accounting teacher, you'll learn a lot if you apply yourself.
Not that bad, do the homework and you should do fine in the class. A bit boring, but hey, it's accounting class.
A good teacher, take him and you'll learn a lot about the basics of accounting.
Hes the best professor that there is in WSU accounting department. Knows his stuff like ****. follow his rules and regulations and keep up with the class , theres no way u wont get an A . 60% of our class got As 35% Bs, there was one C and one D.
Hard teacher, not helpful outside of class.
He is very good at teaching accounting. He writes his own notes and makes a worksheet book for you for only $14 instead of the $150 every other accounting class has to pay. The tests are easy if you check over your notes first. Nice guy with a somewhat dry sense of humor.
He is NOT a teacher, he's a TELLER! It sux cuz he just reads over what is right in front of you and doesn't explain what and why it's that way. Very tough, homework like EVERYDAY! Don't take him, he's boring and hard.
At least an hour of homework every night
very good prof. very clear and helpful with questions. takes time to fully understand subject.
want HW you got it.
All i can say is HOMEWORK.
At least 1-2 hrs. of homework due each class; Always had class, never got out early, speaks as if his students are ALL accounting majors that have taken other accounting classes. Some tests are easier, but usually VERY hard. Wouldn't recommend, try to find a different professor.
He comes off as a tough teacher the first couple of weeks, but he lightens up. Homework every night though, but it's not hard. Open book and notes tests EXCEPT FOR THE FIRST ONE! My class thought the first one was too because he said it was, but we found out when we got there it wasn't. Just keep up with the work, and you'll get a good grade.
a lot of hw but he is very felxible in terms of points..to get an 90/100 in hw all you need is 70% of the hw points, so its easy..tests can be challanging if you dont do any hw or go to class, but not bad if you apply yourself
Horrible. So much homework every night before class (expect atleaste 1-2 hours) Never lets you out early or cancels class. Monotone voice.
He is not that bad of a professor. Knows his material and slides are very helpful. All homework can me done easily by looking at slides. Has monotone voice but uses plenty of real examples to help you understand the material. Had a harsh attitude towards students. Would recommend for accounting majors.
Too many hw. he thinks we only have his homework to do!
There is a lot of homework for this class, but it's easy if you follow his directions. Seems kind of pompous the first few weeks, but lightens up after a while. 3 tests that aren't bad at all.
Not helpful....very negative teacher! He's just plain mean and makes everyone feel like they are stupid. Way too much homework!
HOMEWORK,HOMEWORK,HOMEWORK!!! He gives a ton of it, at least 2 hours every class. Doesn't explain content all that well, he just reads the slides. Doesn't tell you whats going to be on tests. Final test was not comprehensive.
he spends his summers creating his own powerpoints and frowns upon the books the department picks it seems. meticulous and if you ask him a question about homework you will most likely not get an answer, he'll just reply with another question that you would have to look up in the text book he says not to buy. unless you have to take him DON'T
If you want to learn more things in accouting and excel then don't miss this opportunity...though too much work but if u do it you will learn a lot of stuffs...i think he is the best professor in the accounting department...The only thing is he wants everything to be perfect.
Slides, slides and more slides, basically its all powerpoint presentations. Tests are decent, Way to much homework that he DOES NOT explain how to do at all. Take him if you can teach yourself off his material, many of us in my class had to get together an try to do the homework with little final result. Just an all around bad prof :(
In this class you can expecet about 2 hours of homework to do each time you attend. There are so many assignments but if you do them and do them well they can raise your grade a lot, but if you mess up it can be trouble cuz you will have to go back and fix what was wrong. You learn a lot in this class. He is very picky about how things are done.
Bergin is a decent professor, his class can be difficult if you don't want to try, and if that is the case then get out. He is a smart man just gets a little mono toned.
Worst Prof. I've ever taken. Is extremely condescending. Whenever anyone asked a question he just told them to look in the slides, even though the slides were confusing as hell. Avoid him. He made my summer hell on earth.
This class isn't bad but the professor is horrible. Don't plan on asking any quesitons because if you do he will shoot you down, like you don't know anything. He's not helpful at all.
"The answer to all life's questions are in the slides." Bergin is quite the character. He does not like answering questions, he'll just tell you to look in the slides. The tests are decent, if you do the homework and pay attention when he's lecturing you'll do fine.
Dude is cold as stone.Has no heart or mercy.Assigns homework like theres no tomorrow, and if theres the slightest mistake, you lose points at the speed of light. Has no sense of humour, super monotoned, likes playing god.biggest nightmare ever.killed my love for accounting quite successfully.
He is the reason I changed my major from Accounting. He assigns homework and then explains it weeks later. Not a good professor at all. Has a wide selection of sweaters though.
Overall I would rate him as an easy professor. He can get pretty monotone and boring, but he goes over everything and the homework is occasionally time consuming, but easy overall. You use a big packet instead of a book so that save you atleast $100. Overall, its an easy A.
So. All I see are comments from 211 and 220 that he can be a good prof. At ALLLL costs, do not take him for 312. I have gotten all A's and B's in my Acct classes, and I was getting about a 17% in his 312 class. Lower levels probably aren't that bad, but DO NOT take 312 with him. Get Sallee if at all possible.
not good. makes you feel like an idiot if you ask questions. "iam the one who asks the quwstions" -bergin looks like a mean version of mr.rogers
He is a very tough professor, and doesn't take well to questions asked. He has like a million powerpoint slides he just goes through during class. Take someone else if you can!
I took Bergin for Acct 211, 212, 220, and 312 and yes by choice! He really is not that bad. Has everything laid out so you know exactly what to expect. Homework is due almost every class but the only way to learn is to do. I will admit 312 was pretty difficult but not impossible to get an A. If you want to learn take Bergin he knows Acct!!!
Bergin assigns homework from chapters that he hasnt covered yet then collects the assignment and grades it for correctness. then when he does hand it back, he doesnt go over it until the day before the test, when you dont even remember doing the assignment. overall horrible
This is the absolute worst class I have ever taken in my entire life. I don't know how he got to be a teacher, but he sure shouldn't be!!!!!! I actually was going to be an accountant until his absolutely horrible teaching pushed me away. NEVER TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!
Book isn't required, just a big packet with all of his slideshows and homework. Pretty easy teacher. Goes over homework before all the tests. Just pay attention and go over the slideshows before tests. "The answer to all lifes' questions are in the slides" as he would say.
ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!! Do not take this professor! STAY AWAY! His class is complete torture. He takes a somewhat easy and fun topic (accounting) and turns it into absolute hell! The worst teacher ever!
The only reason why people don't like professor Bergin is because he assigns so much homework. How else will you learn accounting if you don't practice the applications. If you don't want to learn, then don't be in any of his classes!
Very boring class. Not the worst teacher in the world. Pretty nice guy. Just very hard to pay attention, especially in the morning.
Bergin is one of the better teachers for ACCT majors; you actually learn from him. TONS of homework. Non-accounting majors probably shouldn't take him.
Don't take this professor's class!
My life is powerpoints...i hate this class so much. I actually stood at the door to the class the other day and couldn't make myself go in knowing that I had to space out for 1.3 hours. I've never seen him smile. It's depressing.
Worst teacher ever! Do not take him. He is extremely rude and mean.
He is a very responsible and nice teacher, I learned a lot from his class. He is hard, but he teaches very clear and good. You really learn things from his class.
Never take him. easily the most hated teacher ive ever had.
NEVER TAKE THIS CLASS EVEN IF YOUR DOING ONLY THIS CLASS IN THE SEMESTER. HE THINKS WE TAKE ONLY THIS CLASS IN THE SEMESTER. THESE KIND OF PROFESSORS SHOULDN'T TEACH IN THE UNDERGRADUATE LEVEL.. He just ruined my and 90% of the class life. Pro. Larry Sally teaches the same class and you will get a good knowledge with good grades in ACCT 312.
Class was hard due to my ACCT 211 professor but the class was clearly outlined with due dates and objectives. PowerPoint slides were very helpful when completing the assignments. There are five tests and about 20 homework assignments.
Pay attention, go to class easy A.
Do not take this class, he just reads of the slides the entire class and expects you to know how to do everything. completely lost in the class, and may have to retake with a different professor.
This professor is ridiculous. I am completely lost in the class. I have compared him with accounting professors at both winona and lacrosse and he is by far the hardest. I am an honor student barely getting by with a C. He has an angry tone, robot voice and reads the slides all class every class. You must be good at teaching yourself the content.
Great Professor. All you need to do in this class is show up, listen, and do the homework. Just do the homework and look at the lecture slides if you do not get the homework. "the answer to all life's questions are in the slides" as Bergin would say. The book for this class is a giant packet with powerpoint notes and homework for only $15.
Way to hard. Goes way to fast. He acts like we already know everything.
Great professor. I will be getting an A in this class but that is because I sit in the front. His teaching style is different because you are presented with all the notes and have to learn from them as he reads the notes with his monotonic voice. You should at least get a B in this class if you show up, do the homework, and listen.
Very intimidating and boring teacher, you will get out of it what you put into it. Don't fall behind - he collects homework daily but assigns 2-6 problems and collects one. It's difficult and frustrating if you cannot figure it out on your own. Basically teaching yourself the class.
Not necessarily a bad teacher. Just very monotonous. You must show up to class, do the homework and always review the slides. Class is very boring, you do the same thing every single day. It can be difficult to do the homework if you can't figure it out, as the slides are not always clear.
Study and know the notes from the presentations and you will do fine. I recommend printing them off and following along in class.
I am wirting this comment for the students who will take his ACCT 312 class. It is absolutely hardest class I have taken. He asks us to do so much homework and they are so difficult. My life is terrible because of this class. He used to be my favorite acct teacher, but after this class, not anymore. I lost all my passion and confidence in ACCT
If you take a class with him, make sure you go to class. He gives out a lot of homework and expects you to know the material. The tests are hard but he gives a nice curve on all of them.
Overall a pretty good professor. I know many students can't stand him but if you do your work, and pay attention in class its good. He comes off as arrogant but can actually be pretty funny sometimes. Really knows his stuff, you just need to have the guts to ask him. Also, answer questions asap, he will stand there and wait until someone does.
As long as you go to class and pay attenion you should be fine. He curves the test and by the end of class he does make sure you know how to do accounting. Trust me put in the time now with a little bit harder teacher so you can have the reward later when you know everything and students who didn't take him don't know anything.
Bergin has a bad attitude, he expects you to know way more than you should. His teaching methods are not good, he simply reads the powerpoint everyday when you could do that yourself. I suggest against taking his classes!
A lot of people talk low of Bergins class but he is a good professor, just tough. He is very clear on what you need to know for the tests. If you show up to class, take good notes, and memorize the power point slides you'll get an A on the tests. Also learn how to use the TIM charts right away because they wont go away.
Bergin is a good teacher but terrible at lecturing. If you show up to his class and pay attention, do the homework, you will do decent on the tests and therefore good overall in the class. I enjoyed having Bergin for this class. Good guy!!
If you show up every day and manage to stay awake during his class and also do all the homework you will get at least a B.
I hate this guy. But he taught well. I guess. He assigns SO much homework, I spend 45 hours on his class for every period. And he only grades one exercise. Yeah. Spent 2 of the 4 hours on one excercise? To bad! He grades the 1 that took 10 mins. I get that he wants to make sure you know the material but he has no regard for his student's time.
Must pay attention in class!! Also, must read and do all homework! Tests are tough and pretty long. Lots of homework to make sure you know the material, but doesn't go over it until right before the test when you have completely forgotten about what the homework was.
