This guy is cute.....hey....hes young atleast.
very good professor
he is so cute. Oh my god he is hot
Good pro. Take it
much better than amir
Bender makes bio fun! In addition, he is very helpful and is willing to help his students whenever possible! Absolutely recommend him!!
Not a bad teacher, but its a pretty tough class. His tests are very hard and he seems to randomly place emphasis on a single chapter during the test (test might be on Chp 1-5, but half the questions are on, say, Chp 4). Labs were fun and hes funny.
You have to work for your grade, but he is very helpful and recognizes when effort is being made and when it is not. Have to study hard, but he is great and so is his class.
Makes biology very interesting. Always helpful. Takes the time to explain any concept you are having trouble grasping. Lectures are interesting, fun, and fast paced.
He's a good teacher, but he gets on your case about being late to class (for those of you who tend to do so).
He's an okay teacher, but his tests are TOO COMPREHENSIVE! There is A LOT of material covered and I do mean A LOT. I just dropped his class because I was getting a bad grade in the class and I asked him if I can do any extra ciricullur assignments to bring that grade up and he said "No".
it was easy. cool guy. he likes it if you tell jokes
He is not my favorite instructor, he was unfair in his exams and when I tool Bio3 with him, he wasn't helpfull at all. Have to study alot for his exams.
you need to put in a lot of work to pass his class
great teacher! looks like David Spade! pretty funny, very nice!
Course content is interesting. Lecture notes need to be more organized. Tends to kick into TURBO speed during lectures at times....must be the COFFEE!!! Exams aren't too bad. Grading seems fair. However, I feel that SJDC needs to implement the +/- grading system.
Never had him for a class, but wow he's a hot!
So i was not the best at this course but he went way above and beyond to help me attept to pass his class. i ended up dropping but not due to his teaching. he is very helpful and understanding and will not fail you if you are trying.
He's very nice. He went out of his way to let me pass this class. Sometimes he wasn't very helpful when I had a question but he was always willing to answer questions. His exams are harder than you'd expect.
He is a good teacher. He actually cares if u are failing and he tries to help and take time to talk to u.

Loved his class! And I'm planning on taking him again.
Alright of course no one's gonna have great things to say about a bio course, they are hard classes but Mr. Bender makes the class bearable. His tests aren't nearly as bad as you expect and he's fair and helpful. His lectures go quick and you have to keep up with your studying. If you put work in you can do fine. Yeah and he's hot.
He's cool...I recommend him over any of the other teachers.
Definitly a good teacher. I was struggling in the class, and he helped me out a lot. He definitly moves quickly, but if you are willing to study and keep up, you'll do fine.
i have take Mr. Bender and i must say that he is a wonderful professor. he is very helpful and in questions, he really tries to clarify things out. take him anytime. wish he taught Physio.
this class is not too hard, but there are things that appear on the test that you did not know of. he is a nice guy but lab is a little confusing.
the course was challanging. he got lazy sometimes and did not cover the material very well. i felt lost, so many times. make sure u read the BOOK. i wish there was some other teacher who taught this course. he is good looking but that dont help. do it? make sure u ask questions too. i loved the trip to big trees. i recommand taking an ez load with
he is a wonderfulll instructor. i realli enjoyed taking his class. i've heard this class is hard but he does a great job with his powerpoint notes and explains everything well.. he takes the time to explain it all n is helpful ifu ask em.. he tries to crack jokes n even tho sometimes they're not funny, hes so cute that u cant help but enjoy em!
Very good lecture teacher. (I had someone else for lab) His powerpoint notes were thorough and while the tests were a little difficult, they weren't too bad.
he is very helpful to the students and the class is not boring. i love the lab sessions...very interesting.
Mr Bender is very helpful and dedicated professor. Focus on his lecture notes, do good in labs and you'll do just fine.. Trust me! He's the best. Highly recommended..
he is a cool professor..he is very into his subject...you just have to study his notes very well and read the book...his labs are hard, but you just need to study like 2 hrs a night in order to get an a
He's a very good teacher... you just have to study. His lecture is very informative, he will help you if you just ask and just try to study and you will get a good grade.
You need to study hard to pass this class. Labs are not hard at all. Tests were pretty difficult though. He seemed to be very helpful in lecture but in lab if you asked him a question most the time he wouldn't give you a full answer and tried to make you feel like an idiot
he's a nice, helpful professor. his lecture notes has ALOT of tidbits that you need to know, so it's a little difficult. the lab practicals aren't too hard, but you can't ask him any questions nor will he let you go back to ones you're unsure of.take advantage to ask questions. he will help.
very clear on his lecture, funny and cute.. but his exam is VERY VERY VERY HARD..
He seems like a nice person, but his teaching skills are not good. If you ask a question during lab time, he won't answer you and he does tend to make you feel stupid. He's really general, never gives study reviews for exams, and he tends to favor students who are not struggling. Too bad he's the only one that teaches botany.
EXTREMELY helpful, patient,CLEAR as to what he wants and how he wants it,ORGANIZED,to the point, funny(at least he thinks he is haha) and tries to not offend u when you give a wrong answer outloud.I was petrified of microscopes..thanks MR.Bender!!Just stick to his notes and use the book for reference.Study and you'll be OK! Labs are easssssy too!
For the people who say his tests are hard, they must have not taken any other sciences yet because his tests were the EASIEST out of all of my other science pre req classes!Super easy if you study the lec. notes well...not wait til the day before!
Mr. Bender is wonderful. I got an A in his class last semester 07. My best advice to you all is study the review sheet's and the powerpoint along with lecture's. Also take advantage of the Math and Science lab they have great microscopy's to study from and bring your own slide boxes. It will help you out a lot when it comes time for lab practical.
he is the coolest and the best in micrology. i took this class along with another biology and therefore could not devote a lot of time to this subject, but still i got an A. Prof. is very good, doesnt give extra credit though but if u have a head, then u dont need extra credit esp if u r a nursing student. his exams r frm powerpt. notes. book helps
take him...i had him for spring'08...he is awesome and the best. he makes sure that each student is getting the topic...he will give wonderful examples, explain details...labs r fun and easy..but hey u've gotta behave. its not a party but its not as hard as anatomy.u cannot get an A unless u study side by side.Mr. Bender makes the job easier for u
O.k. teacher! Extremely picky with grading. Tests are very hard do not expect to get a good grade in his class.
ok the person below ....must be not serious coz Mr. Bender is the best. he literally spoon feeds u the info...and still if u cant fair good in his easy exams and get a good grade...then choose a different major coz micro22 is the easiest of the 3 biologies u need in the prerequisites for nursing..gud luck in the other 2 ...this one was easy..i got
I TOOK MR. BENDER THIS SPRING 08 AND HAD A BLAST. WAY EASIER THAN PHYSIO ANYDAY. I GOT AN A IN THE CLASS AND I WORKED HARD AND STUDIED HARD TO GET IT. BENDER WAS REAL COOL! ANYONE CAN GET AN A IN THIS CLASS IF YOU DO THE WORK. HE EXPLAINS EVERYTHING IN A WAY WHERE IT MAKES SENSE AND IT STICKS. AFTER THIS CLASS YOU'LL ALWAYS WSH YOUR HANDS.
iam a "A" grade student but i am failing at this moment he his picky with his grading, very strict talks too....much his lecture is so boring and long i made a mistake taking his class so if students are telling you he's easy he's not because i listen to RN student and she was wrong
Mr. Bender is nice but this is a very hard class. A lot of quizes, turn ins, and multiple experiments in a days lab, plus the lab practical, and their is no extra credit. Lec exams are extrememly hard/tricky must use critical thinking. A lot of people dropped which tells you something. He is a nice teacher but tends to help students who do well onl
Favors the students who get good grades. The tests and his picky grading is redicoulous! We are at a Jr. College Mr. Bender. I got a decent grade in this class but would not recommend him at all.
what can i say about this instuctor. ......dont take him because you'll regret it. outcome lot of students drops or falls. DONT TAKE HIM
out of 24 students 12 left and out of 12 only 4 passed so you decide?
i hate writing a bad review but he is the hardest teacher i have ever had. I studied for his tests for over 20 hours reading the book recording lectures and still unable to pass this sucks now i will never be an RN. dont take
his the hardest instructor i came across. lot of RN students told me not to take him if only i have listen. his tests are so hard. lot of them are short answers and essays. lot of students drop and few has B lot of them who stayed like me has still D
save your self from this class take another teacher, i dont know how he used to teach, because his ratings were great, but know they have changed almost everyone dropped, lecture tests are super hard, there is essay, and fill ins be aware if you do take him that you need to read!!!!
Mr. Bender is the best!!!! Sure the class is hard, because it's a tough subject...but Bender's the best teacher to take. His exams are strictly off of the lectures, and the book is mainly used to look over materials. I don't know why people have a hard time with this class...the RN program is much much harder!!! Mr. Bender is a great teacher!
good for you the person below me, and no the notes are not in his tests at all you have to focus on the book i have a b in his class, but i have to read the whole chapter twice and his notes are not even on the test or the study guide are useless. he is nice though
Extremely difficult class! I am an A and B student. However, I truthfully struggled to get my hard earned C. His lectures were good, but good luck on the test. If you take his course make sure that you have a ton of time to study as this class will consume your life during the semester. Best of luck!
picks on & targets you. tests dont match pwer point AT All! nor lect. dosnt explain what you need to comprehend. your on your own. Its inevitable youll get a C with know fault of the student, you cant understand something thats not explained in the depth he requires on his tests. Its not Fair & is sad. This is my future. not compassionate, picky!
picky, picky, you have to teach yourself. why is he teaching? I can save my time & my money & go to the library if I have to teach myself! What good is he. high expectations but doesnt give enough Info. its a joke. Take bot.other college better grade!
Mr. Bender is hot and smart. He has a corny sense of humor, but it just adds to his adorableness and lightens the mood a bit. He is not hard, but just try not to take micro and physio together. I did that, and I ended up taking micro for granted because of it. Just be really nice and ask a lot of questions;]
He is really helpful, very picky. Most of lecture you will understand but when test comes it doesnt match powerpoint lectures and study guides are waste of time. Really great guy but needs to be less picky, we are all going to transfer to University we arent in one just yet. He expects you to be at a University level when taking his tests.
I can't believe what people are saying about Mr. Bender. I mean the class itself is kind of hard, but he explains everything so well, he makes it easy. Just study the power point, everyting on the test is in there. My advice is try to learn and not memorize, as most of the test questions are clinical and conceptual.
While Professor Bender is very knowledgeable about Micro., he lacked the skills to convey that knowledge to students. He also lacked the ability to make the material interesting & relevant. He showed little respect for students & would not hesitate to embarass them by making smart remarks. Students were afraid to ask for help, especially in lab.
Bender is a very good teacher dont listen to these other fools. Take him for bio.1 bio.3 and micro! He will prepare you for further studies in the bio. sciences.
Great guy and fun class. You can tell that he really enjoys teaching and really enjoys plants. His tests are based on his power point lectures. I studied the night before and got an A on the tests. If you are a slow learner, just review everyday. Oh and the field trip kicks ass.
Professor Bender is responsible, fair and understanding. He makes his class very interesting and enjoyable. His lectures, powerpoints and study guides are very helpful in prepearing students for the exams. If you're taking his class, keep in mind that he doesn't respond well to whining. So, keep it to a minimun if you can't help yourself.
Mr. Bender is a great teacher. He provides lots of information. Very interersting lecture. I learn a lots in this class. His test if very difficult but if you study his lecture and powerpoint, you will be fine. Don't try to memorize it, really need to know.
a lot of nurses said to take his class. obviously his teaching styles has changed since 2002.all his smiley faces turned sad&i will add on to it.his labs are a little difficult especially when you get into advanced microscopy and it won't be easy to ask him questions.he makes you feel dumb and looks at you like "why don't you know this?!"ihate him.
i am currently enrolled in his 6-week crash micro course and whoa nelly! be ready to be a real student. no short cuts here, however, you will learn if you want to. i think he believes in his students and actually wants you to know this stuff. This is a very important class and needs to be taken seriously. "what does not kill us, makes us stranger".
Bender can be a nice guy but is a horriable teacher. I was a A student until i took his class and failed with a D. I do not recomend him his study guides are useless and unless u are just a genius in the subject DONT TAKE HIM!
If you like memorizing everything and taking test on material not covered in class, this is your instructor. I personally prefer some multiple choice problems, because it's the last step into cementing the material into my head. At least once I've seen these important concepts on a test, I realize the importance, which helps me.
PLEASE! DO NOT TAKE BENDER! AQUISTAPACE IS THE BEST...SHE IS FAIR AND WILL GIVE EXTRA CREDIT IF NEED BE.
mr bender is a nice guy that is right but his study guides are useless they are not on the tests. I got a D and am a A student. his lectures are entertaining but his tests are HARD! Lab is easy but take another teacher!!!! i dedicated my life to this class and still failed.
HE IS REALLY A HELPFUL TEACHE AND WANTS YOU UNDERSTAND AND LEAR AND NOT JUST CRAM THINGS
Mr. Bender is a nice person, however a horrible teacher. Not very helpful, this is a hard subject to learn and apply already. I would not recommend him AT ALL!
Very tough class. The hardest class I have ever taken! Lab is hard too. Never miss a class. WARNING: DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH ANY OTHER CLASSES!!!! This class will consume every waking moment of your life & if you don't dedicate @ least 20 hrs a week to study u won't pass. This is the only class I took & I don't work. U must work hard!
Here are the keys to passing his class. Study his Powerpoint lectures forward and back & use that to develop your study habits. You must memorize & understand lecture and what's in the book. His study guides are useless for passing his tests. Also you must read the sections in the book that pertains to his lecture. Also go 2 SI in Shima.
Just because he doesn't spoon feed you guys the information, doesn't mean that he is a horrible teacher. I agree that study guides are useless, but his lectures are right on the money. Labs points are gravy. He will help you if you are willing to put in the effort. Carefully read power points and then expand those power points topic in the book.
In order to succeed in this class you have to work extremely hard! He gives you no shortcuts and expects you to know everything. His expectations are extremely high and unrealistic. However, his lectures are not boring, you will learn a lot, and he will prepare you for the nursing program. If you are willing to commit to this class, you can do it
This teacher has zero people skills. He is supose to be TEACHING the students and he forgets that not everyone walks into his class knowing microbiology. Many of his students are nursing students, which he has failed many of them by literally a point or two. Who does this guy think he is? REPLACE HIM!
i like his class a lot. he is very helpfull and dedicated teacher. he demands hard work. i recommend him to everyone interested in micro.
Class wasn't as hard as Itaya! Go to class everyday, study lecture and you should get an A. Lots of dumb people at Delta who waste time and space trying to do these science classes in hopes of transfering or getting into the nursing program. If you are a real student, you will enjoy and learn from Bender's class with some effort. form a study grou
This teacher is not recommended at all!!! He is no help. I would assume with all those years of experience in teaching, he will know how to teach. It was a mistake taking him.
Take Mr. Bender.Very helpful instructor. If you put in the effort and time you will do fine.Digitally record/attend the lectures, study the powerpoints and supplement with the book. You need to understand the concepts not just memorize the facts. All of the science classes take effort and time, but if you are disciplined you will do well.
His courses may be more difficult than other teachers, but you learn so much from him. Study hard and ask questions! He is willing to help those who are truly willing to learn.
I am currently taking his 6 week course. It is very dense! But he is a great lecturer. The topics are not bring. You have to do a lot work though. And he is extremely hot!! It is so hard to concentrate sometimes! umm, umm, ummmmmmm!!
Class wasnt too difficult but does require quite a bit of reading and I definately recommend taping lectures. He's very helpful with answering lecture questions but not very helpful with answering lab questions. Attend class, record lectures and read and you should do fine. I got a B but could've gotten an A if I wasnt taking it with Anatomy.
Bender was no joke. He wanted you to love Micro. it is very interesting. if you put in the effort your will succeed. He is very approachable and is willing to stay after lecture or lab to assist. He also has office hours. If you don't know ask. I got a B but I had to study. SI is helpful. He is funny and loves to talk about BEER!!
He doesn't lecture how he use to anymore. His tests are HARD!!The only fun in attending his class it is the fact that he is very hot and cute for sure.
this teacher is very nice but with that said he is very frustrating his tests are ridiculously hard. not only MUST you read the book and take book notes as well as lecture notes but that still isn't enough. his tests are so specific and his lecture are broad. he has a tough time teaching non majors so if you are a non major do not take his class
Hes a nice guy but a horrible teacher for a non majors class. His exams are so difficult. For him giving bad lectures you would think his exams are easy. Like i said nice person bad teacher...
As long as you study and go to lecture you will do fine. He appreciates it when students participates in the class, and sure the material is hard but he tries to make it interesting. He's very nice and easy to talk to! Highly recommend.
Cool teacher. Dont study the book only the slides.
Good teacher, read the text and study the slides. Don't skip the lecture or labs and you will do well
I am so lost in his class.
people say hes really hard, but i think hes awesome. if you do all your labs and attend lecture you'll do fine. He provides all material to do well. Really helpful to print out powerpoints prior to class. Hes really smart in his subject and makes it as interesting as possible, considering the subject.hes super goofy.I give him 5 stars(for micro :/)
I had him for the first 3 weeks of summer school. Compared to Hewette he's 5 times better! Granted its a tough subject, he explains everything well and involves the class to try to make micro interesting. His slides are very informative and serve as an outline for what will end up on the test. He tells you what you need to know. EXCELLENT for micro
STUDY the slides the book is to go back and get a definition or read a little extra on the subject or if you dont understand something in the slides. His a cool teacher.
I really liked Mr. Bender he is a great teacher but I just couldn't understand his test questions did vert well in lab by not so well on the lecture exams
Bender is a really good teacher. He really tries to get the class involved, and he also tries to make micro interesting. If you want to pass the class you have to put in a LOT of studying. Study the slides and use the book to give better clarity for things you don't understand. He recommended putting the slides in your own words which really helps.
Very difficult class. He is a good teacher he is very clear in the subject but you really have to spend hours a day studying if you want to even think about passing. You cant take another core course and have a job when taking this class.
Professor Bender was fabulous. I really enjoyed him, his teaching, and the class in general. He always tried to keep it entertaining and interesting. I highly highly recommend him. I'm just your average student academically, but I studied a lot and tried really hard. Super nice guy and great teacher.
This class is difficult. You really have to go over the key things he say in lecture because he does back and forward with his PowerPoints. Exams are fair and must study with the book and PP. 4 exams, including final. lots of quizzes but he drop the lowest one and complete sentence in your labs. Great teacher. Don't be afraid to ask him questions.
This class is tough requires a lot of studying. For lecture study book and power point notes to be able to get decent grade in lecture exams.lab is interesting and lab test are not difficult. If am an average student and was able to pass this class with A just put the right time to study. Overall good class, cool teacher
You might of heard that Dr. Bender is an EASY professor, but it doesn't mean the class is a breeze. In order to make this course easy on yourself is to study hard! His tests are fair, what you are taught is what you are tested on. Overall Bender is a good professor. Take him! How to study : Study the power pts and add your own notes..I got a B.
very hard class. a lot of studying on your own. powerpoints are your best friend. 3 lab exams and 3 lecture exams. drops lowest quiz. study study study!
Mr. Bender i think is a really good professor. he made me really interested in the subject. i had him the first 3 weeks of summer. pay attention and record lectures. his essay portion of his exams are based on what has been discussed in lecture. study the powerpoints and use book for clarity. exam questions are fair.
He is an awesome person with a great personality. Very approachable. Will help you out as much as he knows how to. The class is extremely difficult though. Must be prepared to dedicate a lot of time in order to receive a decent grade.
Very approachable and helpful just talk to him. Be a self organizer. Must study many hours outside out class. Attending SI very helpful. Must be an independent worker in the labs with little directions. Power points are VERY IMPORTANT to study from tests.
One of the worst professors at Delta. He makes the material seem easy and makes it general then goes so specific in the exam. Doesn't even make it clear what we need on lab practical. Take it somewhere else possible. Delta science professors are terrible. They want the students to fail.
Bender is a good professor. Yes, the class is difficult but surely if you put in the time to understand the material you won't go wrong. If you have any questions he's always willing to answer and help you figure out the problem. ASK QUESTIONS! You can't help yourself if your not willing to ask for HELP from others! His Tests can be very specific!
I took Mr. Bender for Micro and I must say, this was my favorite class. Go to lecture! His powerpoints are vague .. on purpose. Take notes on what he lectures + what's in the book and you'll do good on the exams. For the lab practicals study your lab worksheets and you'll be fine. Extra credit opportunites. I received an A.
One of the best professors I've ever had. I really liked him. He's an awesome teacher but this class is tough and he makes you work for your grade. I got an F my first exam & changed my studying habits & received a B in the class. I worked hard and studied power points with the book and made my own notes. Your get what you work for. Work hard.
Professor Bender well prepares students for each exam by thoroughly explaining material that will be on tests before hand. DON'T SKIP lecture (it covers mostly everything on tests)! 90% of lab can be finished IN lab (if you don't slack). He's really funny and makes the hardest concepts easy to understand and is respectful towards ALL students.
Bender is probably the best teacher I've had at Delta, & that's saying a lot considering science isn't my best subject at all. You NEED to attend lecture to pass this class. You can say you're going to skip & read the book to catch up, but you won't get a good grade if you do that. He's very straightforward & easy to understand. Very helpful.
I love professor Bender, he is simple and to the point. His lectures outline only what you should be reading and studying for, do not expect to do well if you don't read. Labs are fun and quizzes are easy, do all the extra credit opportunities! Prepares you for upper division science classes at the CSU and UC level. Read exam questions carefully
Bender is an amazing teacher, although his lectures are a little difficult to follow, but if you are prepared, it's not very hard. He's a very helpful, but you have to know your stuffs.
Professor Bender is a great teacher. There is a lot of material to cover, so be sure to read you book before lecture.
Professor Bender is a great professor. He is an easygoing person who helps you out if you need help and ask for it. The material is tough but as long as you read and ask for help if needed you are set. He is very clear about what he might test you on so you have a good idea of what to study since he essentially tells you.
Great teacher!! Highly recommend. Very easy going. answers all your questions, I'm going to miss this class.
I LOVE THIS CLASS!!! Professor Bender is so awesome! he is super helpful and want to see his students do well. He makes class very fun and interesting. Go to class, read, and ask questions. Watch his every move, because he'll give little hints here and there to let you know what you need to know for the exam. Highly recommended!
Professor Bender was amazing! I really enjoyed the class! I would certainly recommend him for anyone wanting/needing to take Microbiology. You'll definitely learn so much!
At first I didn't like Bender, but now I respect him. You must read textbook, your grade really represents your participation. It's work, but don't be scared of it, he is preparing you for UC. Approachable in office hours. Labs memorization (if you fail those then your not trying hard enough). Tests are more thought provoking and a bit tough.
HORRIBLE teacher. Goes on and on in Lectures, makes it seem simple and easy and does NOT prepare you for the exam. He has no idea what hes doing. You basically have to self teach. He leaves you during LAB'S and expects you to know what to do. I asked him a question and he said" look up a youtube video".
Hardest class I have ever taken. Prof. Bender did not care nor help his students. I am an A-B student so taking a professor that did not teach in his class was the hardest thing to overcome. He has power points but skips through them and doesn't go into detail. When I would ask questions in class he would make me feel like I am less than him. RUN!!
You need to go to class, lecture you can miss a day, but lab is where you can't make anything up. You should study as soon as you can, the test weren't too hard, but you need to go over the power points and the little group activities that happen. Get a study group, he'll have tutors who took him available too. Its a interesting class, overall.
I absolutely love Professor Bender and highly recommend him for Medical Microbiology or any of the other subjects he teaches. He is funny and very straight-foraward.
The way to pass: Photographic Memory, Already taken the class before, Already working in the Medical field, don't have a job, don't have family nor friends nor significant other, not taking any other courses. All Lab tests: 50Q Fill in Blank 100 pts using 3D models with a sticker to point to object need to know. 30/84 students left. 15 will pass.
Professor Bender is very hard.. I mean if you want to pass you need to form study groups right away. His class was VERY HARD for me. When it comes to labs he doesn't explain to you its like you have to teach yourself.. Doesn't prepare you for any exams.. Wish he would have had some review questions for the test... Make sure you understand lecture!
Study. Treat his Power Points like gold. Do not miss class. Do the work. Study like your gunna die if you fail this class
Hes a great person, overall a cool guy. This being said his class was tough. Im a nursing major and this was the hardest class Ive taken so far. All of his tests are very specific,so make sure to go into detail when studying. His Practicals are difficult but do-able, but make sure you get your spelling right. Quizzes are easy, not much HW. Good Luck
Don't miss lab. Class is based on self-learning more than the prof teaching. Lecture is more like a preview. If you have questions, he may or may not answer depending on mood. Last few weeks of lec is basically classmates teaching each other about diseases through presentations. Takes a backseat to lab and the disease unit.
Professor Bender in my opinion was a great teacher. He gives a lot of information but its all useful. Be prepared to go to the learning center and study outside of class. Form a strong study group. His lectures arent something to miss as many things appear on tests and quizzes. Ask good questions when you can and listen to the questions of others
I've taken Bender before w/ Med Micro & I liked him, even though people kept saying he was bad. I like to base my opinion on experience & Bender is a great teacher. College is mostly self-taught anyways. Just follow with the PP and remember what he says. Ask him questions, all of them, if you are confused ask him, ask your classmates. Its not hard
Pretty nice guy. His labs and lab quizzes are incredibly simple and quite fun, just as long as you prepare. Studying for his lecture exams are very difficult, I would say that he definitely isn't the best lecturer. I often found myself confused during them along with most of the class. He has resources available on docushare, but not very helpful.
You will only do well in this class if you participate. By participate I mean just talking to him. If you talk to him, hell more likely help you. If not, hell just tell you to refer to your book or the internet. You can skip lecture, if anything it wasted time. I did much better studying by myself and just showing up for lab practice.
If you don't study then you wont be able to keep up. Every day you need to bring your lab packet of that day done already and correct, the points add up and will help.
As a nursing major BIO 22 was by far my most favorite course. Mainly because Professor Bender is a really good teacher. He pretty much outlines everything you need to know in his powerpoint for lectures. And for lab he has you do pre-lab questions which help out for lab practical. I highly recommend professor Bender.
Im so glad I took him. Hes a very great teacher and is more than happy to answer concerns & questions. I learned a lot in his class and it also helped me find a study technique that works for me. If you study, youll pass. Repetition is everything. Wish I took him for anatomy. Exam questions are literally taken from the PowerPoint. He offers EC
Professor Bender is not a good lecturer but everything on the test is from your slides that he gives to you. I recommended typing on the slides while he is lecturing instead of writing notes in a text book because he goes to fast. Make sure you study on your own time and go over every model every time you go into class. Lab tests are very easy.
Wants you to do the best you can. You need to study off the lecture and study guides, many questions were in exams. Listen to his lectures because I did and was able to find out the essay question topic that way. He answers the question unless its time for the bioenterics paper then use your atlas and other students for help.
Besides being an awesome Professor, during lab sessions, he likes to listen to music which for me is excellent it make learning fun. Professor Bender does care about his students and wants to see his students succeed, he won't hold your hand and babysit, he expects you to be a mature honest adult with accountability and responsibility traits, study
If you're new to biology, haven't taken a bio class since HS, its gonna be tough. Bender 's lectures is basically the test, Record his lectures, study them. This doesn't mean skip reading, because reading helps answering questions on the Power points that he would occasionally throw. As long you print lectures, get terms, and STUDY, u be at a Bavg
This class was fun! Bender cares and wants you to do your best because you never know what you'll get in the end. If he's repeated a certain topic multiple times, just know that that's going to be on the exam! Study his powerpoints and refer to textbook if anything! I recommend; he's awesome.
Super strict, does everything outta the lecture notes and book, makes you over study. Packet assignments are ridiculous and the tests are super hard. I studied for and still struggled DONT TAKE HIM. There are better professors out there! ALL HE WOULD DO IS rudly JUDGE HOW I DID MY WORK.
Prof Bender is clear about what to study. His lecture tests/lab practicals are strictly based off HIS lecture notes/the lists of structures he gives you! You don't go in to the exams blinded, with unexpected questions. And, if you do bad on a couple exams, there is plenty of online work & quizzes that counteract for it. Takes work, but doable!
I recommend reading the textbook because the information in there will help you understand his lectures and some of his test questions come from there. You just need to read the paragraphs that relate to his slides and what he mentions in class. Labs are easy to get full points on. Most quizzes come from pre-lab questions. 15 points extra credit.
Professor Bender wasn't really the best. I really did love taking this micro class but I really wished he had some enthusiasm for this subject. In lecture he was really boring, there was technically no point in going but sometimes he does say important things. I highly recommend studying right after lecture class and don't wait to study last minute
I wouldn't take him, he's an okay professor but is rude when you ask questions during lab. In lectures he seems to be all over the place with them. On the bright side there's extra credit. There were 3 lecture exams plus the final and one lab practical due to Covid-19 originally there was going to be 2 lab practicals.
Anyone know if this professor is any good? Ive been attempting to find reviews but have failed. Any feedback from anyone who has would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.
I loved taking professor bender for micro and anatomy, he was extremely understanding and helpful during this pandemic. Tests are based off of lectures, not much from the book, but I would still read textbook chapters to grasp the overall concept. Do your work, show interest, ask questions!
He is really easy Im surprised this is a college course. Gives extra credit and gives you all of the answers to the pop quizzes. He doesnt challenge his students and gives them the answers. Take if you want an easy A.
Professor Bender in my opinion is a great professor, I took him for both Anatomy and Microbiology and I pass both with a B. Read for LAB and I assure you that the Lab packets are easy to do and get full credit for them. Go to tutoring, ask for help! Do the work and show that you are there to learn. Be creative with the assignments that he assigns.
His grading system is more focused on the tests, the lecture test are wort a lot so you have to really focus on the lecture notes and the lab notes. Lab experiments will be use for the lab practical test, and the lecture video is used for the lecture test. His lecture tests are based on his lecture video get good notes on those, study it hard.
Take Bender if you don't want to study and get good grades because he gives lots of extra credit an very few tests, everything is based on homework that you dont even have to turn in. You will love this Bio class. Super easy. This post is for those not trying to learn too much and want top scores through diffusion. You can thank me later!
Prof. Bender is a great professor! He gives some quizzes which have questions straight from the lab packets. DONT MISS OUT ON THESE EASY POINTS! Lab packets are straightforward. Ask questions if you are stuck. His exams are based off PPT slides. I didnt use the TB as much but def useful to grasp overall concept. Put in the work and youll pass!
The labs are straight forward/fun. There's a lot to learn but he lets you pick it up at your own pace, just be sure to cover the necessary chapters prior to the exam! Each exam covers about 4-5 chapters, 50 questions + an essay question. Try your best and you will succeed! I made Quizlets to help (@amberrjonessss)!
Took his class online for 4 weeks. He give No extra credit and labs are tuff and book is $124 you will need to buy it to complete homework, nothing is on quizlet you actually have to study and be ready to do work and study at least 3-4 hours a day for 4 weeks straight
I would not recommend this professor at all! I'm taking his 4-week summer course, which has been awful. He is not much help when you ask him a question and will not offer extra credit. You're expected to learn the entire textbook in only four weeks. The course consists of 20 connect assignments, 6 lab packets, 3 lab exams, and 3 lecture exams.
Professor Bender is specific. That being said , the Quizzes that are worth 5 points are easy points but he docks you for little details so be precise. Lectures are worth majority of your grade ,, study hard and take good notes. Found that the study guide didnt really help for tests. Take the extra credit opportunities if needed. Didnt use txtbook
His lectures are online but the exam and labs are in person. horrible exams, not straight forward from what you learn in lecture. he grades quizzes and labs very strict, and you get .5 deduction right away with little mistake. he requires txbk and lab book but doesnt use it. do not take him if you want to learn and get good grade
The class really wasn't that bad. His tests are based 100% off of lecture, so if you study his power points you will be fine. I found the textbook helpful in understanding processes more, but it wasn't really used for tests. Anatomy is a hard class, so you HAVE to put the time into it. Do the work and you'll be okay!
His lectures are online but the exam and labs are in person. Horrible exams and he makes his own exams! He grades quizzes and labs very strictly; for a little mistake, you get a .5 deduction right away. Do not take him if you want to get a good grade. My study group was horrible too (Zion King and Sana Riaz). They basically didn't help me at all.
The class is organized. All expectations are in the syllabus.Atlas and textbook are used weekly for labs. No Late work accepted.Lectures are recorded on zoom so you can work at your own pace. Prof Bender was available to answer all my questions. You must have time available in your life to dedicate to this class to be successful. Great professsor!
I took bender for Microbiology, the Lectures were online, and the labs were in person. The only reason why I hated his class was because of the lectures. The labs were fun and easy to get points for. But get yourself prepared to watch videos for hours that won't be on the exam and memorize so much.
If you really want to learn in this class I don't recommend bender he expects you to know everything based off his lectures when he just skimps through everything and on top of that he comes off very rude when you ask him something. I learned a lot from SI session then I did from his teaching
This professor didn't even teach. He expects you to know things off of teaching yourself and makes you feel dumb when you ask a question. Labs are not well explained, and he gives you the class time to do work in partners or alone rather than going over lecture or working as a class. Don't recommend, unless you like to work alone and teach yourself.
This professor makes this class a lot harder than it should be..His lectures are supposed to reference what is on the exams but when I would watch the lectures and took the exams a lot of what he would say was not even on the exam. I would try and get any other professor before I took him for anatomy if I were you.
Vocab quizes help your grade; make sure to take those seriously and complete assigntments. The lectures were a little difficult to follow. I suggest reading the chapters and keeping up with the Connect assignments. There was no in-person lecture, which I wish there had been. Overall, he is very understanding and approachable. HIGHLY RECOMMEND SI.
Read the reviews. He does a terrible job of explaining everything. Labs and assignments are poorly explained.
Professor was alright, lectures were online about 30-1:20 min. Requires a textbook on mcgraw to do the homework, pretty easy just time consuming. He has 3 lecture and 3 lab tests as well as a blood flow quiz of 19 points. He goes by points to grade tests are usually worth 100 points.Overall a hard class, put in the work and study hard.
This professor is extremely thorough and you will definitely learn a lot if you put in the time and effort. By no means easy. Also, naming/shaming others for your shortcomings as a student is not only immature but just shows how much effort you put forth. Put in the time and work to not only pass but learn; besides asking for answers...
Professor Bender is probably one of the best science professors at Delta! He always posts announcements on Canvas reminding students of upcoming tests and quizzes and giving helpful advice. Lecture exams are based on his PowerPoints, so study them carefully. He does give homework assignments, which can be time-consuming but provide easy points.
Heavy lectures, read the textbook! He does not explain lectures well
If you are diligent with the assignments and take your time understanding the concepts, you will succeed in Prof. Bender's class. His lectures are manageable and he does not micromanage you during lab activities. He is very knowledgable and his classes will challenge you to make you a stronger student. Not textbook heavy, but it is a good resource.
Prof.Bender was good, but he gets impatient and rude very quickly. Hardly ever asked him questions b/c of it. Class was tougher than both anatomy & physio. Lecture heavy. 4 lecture exams MC & an essay question. 2 lab practicals MC. USE STUDY GUIDES. Quizzes. Pre-lab questions for lab HW. A report at end of semester. EC 10 points
Horrible professor. I could not caution you more do NOT take him. I am a student at MJC, I took this class because there was no room in Micro at MJC. I have never experienced such a difficult course and I have gotten an A in Anatomy, Statistics, and Chemistry. An A in this class is almost unattainable. Harsh grader and unclear lecture style.
Professor Bender's class is challenging, but engaging if you stay on top of the work. Attend lectures, take detailed notes, and use Unstuckstudy alongside the textbook for study prep - that's the key to success. Exams are tough, but the quizzes can provide easy points if you're precise.
Good: allows you to check out bones to take home during the skeletal chapter. Bad: lectures are pointless bc he just reads off of the power points and goes off-topic a lot. Doesn't answer your question directly but instead gives confusing answers. Makes you do extra reading and questions for points, but they don't apply to the exams.
Can someone reading this who took BIOL 22 (micro) please review what you guys did to pass this class with an A? Do you have tips on lecture and lab exams? Is everything on the exams directly from the lecture videos? Is it too time consuming?
pros -same exact material as Knudsen so take this class if u can't get him -labs, prefixes, and hw are super easy points so take them seriously! cons -gets very rude and PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE for NO reason at all, this made me not want to ask him questions SMH but overall he's chill ig. -LOTS of info to unpack and study very quickly -lectures are meh
took him for anatomy and honestly hes not as bad as a lot of the reviews say. anatomy is a very hard class so you have to put in a lot of effort in time for a good grade. his material is the same as knudsens. s.i. is very helpful so I highly recommend going. his class is pretty decent and I'm glad I got him for anatomy, him and knudsen are good
This teacher does not make sense and he extremely hard to follow. You can watch his lectures 100 times and still not be ready for his tests. The worst part, he's the only micro teacher at Delta, so most people will not have a chance to succeed how they want to. Better off going to a whole other school. Good luck on getting answers on anything.
His lectures make no sense. Attendance is required! No late assignments accepted even if you had an excused absence! 2 Lab practicals are easy, focus on those and on the quizzes. His lecture exams were confusing and did not match up to his lectures. Extra credit 10 pts and 1 report for 20pts. Everything else is 5pts for labs.
An overall great professor. Anatomy is a very dense course so he only goes through his selected topics out of the Mcgraw textbook which I appreciated. He only ever tested what he goes through on his powerpoints/zooms so as long as you can follow along and take the time to review what he teaches to ensure you know it, you'll do great on his exams
Worst professor that I've ever taken. He had no desire to be there during labs or be helpful to students. Exams, lab practicals and the labs turned in are majority of all grade points in the class. Exams are 60 page slides 1 to 5 chapters and questions are never close to the material what so ever. Extra credit is not even 2%. This prof is a joke.
I would never in my life recommend this prof to anyone needing to complete micro. This guy is absolutely terrible when it came to his tests &grading. Overload of material for each chapter & it wouldn't even be what was on the tests. He is rude & condescending, made it hard to ever want to get clarification on things. Avoid this prof at all costs.
This professor is incompetence all students have reported him for his behavior in the class. He wants to see you fail he will not explain any questions you have, and his lectures are all over the place and not what's on the exam. Also, we confirmed his super positive reviews are actually his. He fakes his reviews so don't be tricked by them. GL
Can not teach. His lecture videos are all over the place. Have a better luck understanding lectures from outside resources.
worst professor I have ever had
one of the worst teachers i have ever had. he doesn't teach well at all, has an attitude, his lectures do not help and aren't what is on the exams. Personally, he is not a good teacher at all and should not be a teacher because he can't teach for nothing. do not take this class, it's like he wants you to fail. totally wish i had another professor.
His lecture exams, the info is there on his slides, but his slides seem like a toddler put them together as a puzzle. And you have to "find the missing pieces", like how is that teaching? His lab exams are fine. When people asked him questions, he would brush it off with an attitude. If you want an A, you have to put 5-6 hours PER DAY. Good luck.
ppl say whats in his lectures arent on the exams, the truth is it is but you have to put in time & fill in the missing pieces in his slides yourself, study whats on his slides in depth (which he doesnt do) not just the facts that are on there. micro wasnt an easy class but if you put in time & effort you'll succeed, made me a stronger student too
Wow. The bad reviews you read on here are all correct about him. He is a snarky professor that grades tough. He won't listen to his class. He doesn't care about his students success but he definitely has favorites. I don't understand why he's still able to teach at Delta with this many students having a hard time with him. Stay away from him!!
Worked full time and stayed up most nights studying for this class. Final grade was an A. Class is definitely manageable, just make sure to put in the effort. A 3 from me because I wasn't a big fan of his lecture style.
Wasn't too bad tbh but his lecture exams were difficult but doable. Lab practicals were easy. He uses this style: both a and b, all of the above, etc. As long as you study you'll do good. A lot of material to cover for each exam but make sure you go through all slides. He curves all exams based on the highest score. No extra credit.
Unless you have a lot of time to teach yourself the material, do not take his class. His lectures are hard to follow. If you want clarification, you won't get it. Lab Practical exams were easy, but the Lecture Exams were confusing. Unfortunately, he was the only option this semester for Micro. Do not recommend if another professor is available
requested so many days off from work for this class, lecture heavy + werent the best lectures so it made it even harder when the material itself is already hard. had to learn how to teach myself, if i had known how to in the beginning of the semester i couldve gotten an A. it is possible to get a good grade tho u just have to put in a lot of time
He's not that harsh of a grader like some reviews say, on the essay part of the exams even if you answer the question briefly you could get a 10/10, just as long as he sees you know what the question is asking. Id only get points deducted from the lab packets which were graded by his assistant
If you want to teach yourself and go through the textbook to fill in all his empty spaces from the lecture, this class is for you. You really need to read the textbook and teach yourself with this professor. He isn't approachable and can be condescending when you ask questions so be aware of that. I would advise another professor if possible.
The class is definitely manageable. I worked full-time and have little ones. I scored Cs on all lecture exams. B and A in lab practical and scored full points on all quizzes and labs. I honestly didn't put in the time for the lecture exams, if you want to score high make sure to review lecture PowerPoint and notes daily.
Heavy lecture reading, easy labs, do the extra credit. Would not recommend but this is your best option unfortunately. Will be retaking so see you all again. Quizlets, quizlets, quizlets. Multiple choice exams are confusing because all the options sound correct but you have to pick the MOST fitting.
Bender is amazing! Took a 6-week micro class with him & Hewette who taught the last 3 weeks Lectures were long but aligned with exams. Material was tough, but after studying, I started passing. He curves exams. Lab quizzes/particles were easier & fun. Class requires dedication. Study guides were super helpful since they aligned with the exams
Don't take him.
Not passionate or helpful about material. His lecture exams are extremely hard. If you have questions he makes you feel dumb and does not even care if you understand or not. Self taught technically. His lectures are so disorganized not clear enough. If you have a job is not an easy class.
although the lecture slides are a little disorganized, if you put in lots of time & effort this class is manageable dont listen to the reviews. this class is challenging and requires a lot of studying, you have to put in the work and be willing to teach yourself. it challenged me in the best way and i enjoyed having bender as my professor
Bender was the best! Lab packets and lab quizzes were self explanatory! His lectures might be a lil confusing but the lecture exam is self explantory and isn't as hard as u think!
Labs are chill, Lec. exams are generally harder and tests on more content comparatively. His lectures are sufficient if you've overlooked the information BEFORE coming to lecture (which he explicitly recommended, but not many people followed). Balanced this class with two jobs and caring for my dependents; studied ~1-3 hours a day. You can do it!
What are some tips for his anatomy 31 class, I am about to take it in the spring but Idk what and how to prepare myself. are his exam and quizzes opens notes are there any apps or books where I can start learning more about the human body. Basically everything to succeed in this class.
The class was good and manageable Lecture Exams are based on the PowerPoints so study them and understand them in depth and the lecture videos are helpful Lab exams were easy since resources like lab videos help and provides pages of lab models labeled do Homework and prefix quiz they boost your grade He curves exams answer questions and is kind
