Nice person! Best professor you'll ever get for POLS 202.
If you like political science, you will LOVE him. He is really knowledgeable and really encouraged his students to share their ideas. An open-minded/flexible and most hilarious professor I have ever seen!! Feel free to talk about anything with him and you will learn A LOT
He's an amazing/hilarious professor and you'll learn a lot in his class. If you pay attention in class, you'll do fine. There's 3 quizzes, midterm, and a final. All of the quizzes/test have SO MANY extra credit opportunities, and he ends up dropping the hardest questions after. It's really hard to fail/not pass this class.
This professor wants success for his students. He does have a strong lean to one political side. Everyone I know who took his class did well but he did seem to go out of his way for people who seemed to struggle most. One girl in the class left crying during a video. He seemed compassionate in the situation when not all profs would be.
He doesn't seem to think anyone should be held accountable. This goes for both his students and the people he teaches about. He is a kind person but he seems to over analyze people's reasons for doing things. This class has been a bit frustrating because his feedback is unclear and so are his expectations.
Jabril is very funny and nice but does not assign anything to receive points. The only things in the gradebook are quizzes, and maybe an extra credit assignment. He is OK, some people love him but I personally did not click with how he taught, I often got bored.
Jabril is an amazing professor and I learned much more than I thought I would from taking his class. He was always understanding and flexible when it came to my chaotic part-time running start schedule. I would definitely take this class again!
Weekly chapter reviews (700 min) which are 3 questions at the end of the chapter. Discussion posts of 500 words. 3 super easy quizzes of which he gives out a study guide. 1500 word final paper. Easy class.
Hilarious professor. Went on tangents a bit, but overall stated the facts clearly. Good grader, and would definitely take again.
Jabril is real kind and caring and such a genuine person. hes so supportive and flexible and i feel he wants everyone to succeed. Hes a real funny lecturer and is always willing to meet w you outside of class for help. Grades are based on 4 quizzes w about 6-12 questions each, 5 discussion posts and a final group project. Real easy A and fun class
Jabril is one of the funniest professors I have taken. He understands your thoughts and concerns and does a good job of interpreting certain ideologies that may be hard to understand. Overall, he has quizzes throughout the quarter which he provides study guides for and participation matters as well.
He's hilarious but is not organized at all and doesn't grade anything. There are 5 quizzes worth 100 points that are pop quizzes
one of the best professors i've ever had. he treats his students with respect and i look forward to his class every week
I loved being in Jabril's class. He is by far my favorite teacher I have had at Bellevue College. He is very fun and understanding. The class was not hard you just have to read the the power points on canvas and understand the concepts in the lectures.
the quizzes are hard, but if you memorize whats on the powerpoint slides you will most likely get an A. his lectures were interesting and he was funny at times but he talks super fast and kind of all over the place, so it can be hard to understand what hes saying at times. he cares about his students success, so take this class for an easy A.
Professor Jah was a young unjaded energetic teacher that was incredibly engaging, entertaining and accommodating. In the middle of the quarter, I had an illness that prevented me from showing up for a week including one exam day. After emailing him, he said not to worry and dropped off the exam at the testing center and gave me a week extension.
Professor Jabril is a charismatic and hilarious teacher. He is able reframe concepts and ideas that some might find challenging and he uses that ability to also interpret what ideas/thoughts his students are trying to express even though he can be disorganized in thought and in lecture from time to time. His teaching approach is quite refreshing.
Professor Hassen is incredible! I have never met a more motivating professor, always willing to help, and so inspirational. He loves to crack jokes and seriously cares about each of his students. Grade is heavily based on quizzes, and a final group project. If you show up to class the quizzes shouldn't be difficult. I got 100 on all.
Jabril is the best teacher ever. He is so funny and cares about his students succeeding. My class POLS&202 American government was so much fun and I learned a significant amount of information. Participation is graded but he offers extra credit. As long as you show up, participate, and understand the lectures you'll be set in the class.
This one was of my favorite classes, there were lots of in class discussions on numerous political topics which always kept the class interesting because anyone could share their opinion and discuss it openly. Attend each class, participate, and do a little bit of studying and you will get an A+ in the class.
Best professor without a doubt. Incredible teaching and hilarious. I took an online class with him and he spoke with me on the phone regarding the final project just to answer any questions that I had and guide me to a good topic. Hilarious and incredibly nice. Loved him and would pounce at an opportunity to take classes with him,
Professor Jabril is one of my favorite teachers I ever took. He is very understand and wants to do whatever he can to help you succeed. He is also very good at making a boring subject fun and putting a twist on it. I would take his class 10/10 and if you are on the waiting list just email him and see what he can do.
He is such a great professor I would love to take another one of his classes again. The assignments and tests are worth a llot of points but you get plenty of time to do them and his expectations are super clear. It is a lot of writing but it isn't anything hard. As long as you do your work and pay attention to the book you'll be good. Hes amazing
Professor Jah changed my view on my education and school in general. He has a brilliant perspective on the world that translates into his IR class, and it made an impression on me. The way he conveys complex theories and ideas made his class not only interesting but fun. If you care about the work, he will care about you.
I was taking political science for the fourth time and there was still vocabulary terms my past instructors couldnt explain well. Professor Hassen gives very simple explanations to most concepts in politics and all the quizzes come out of the power-points and usually a reading chapter. There are no tests.
Funny and cool dude. Couple of chapter and lectures quizzes but gives a study guide that can be turned into a quiz let. Lots of interesting discussions and makes class fun
Jabril is hands down the best teacher I have ever had he actually cares about you and wants to help you succeed. I had him online so I didnt get lectures with him but over phone calls he was amazing to have a conversation with and overall amazing.
JAH is the best professor I have ever had. He is so caring about his students and tries to make his course easy for students to thrive. His lectures are long and can be boring if you don't show up ready to learn. He is also very enthusiastic about his course and very easy to talk to. It's like learning from a friend. I would definitely recommend
Jabril is one of the best professors I have ever had at BC. He is understanding of circumstances that you cannot control and he is willing to work with his students to ensure their success. I was able to turn in all of my assignments the last week of the quarter and he helped guide me through the assignments I didnt understand. Jabril truly cares!
Took this class at 7:30 in the morning but the way he lectures made it easy to be engaged! There were even quite a few days where he let us out early just because. Also had clear expectations on what was going to be on quizzes, tests, etc. Even as someone who doesn't take much interest in political science, I did enjoy this class!
One of the best teachers I've had so far. Very understanding, helps you out with everything if you ask, really chill person as well. Clear, well spoken.
Professor Hassen is a great professor. My emails were responded to in a timely manner; he even offered to call me to clarify his expectations. However, he was somewhat absent on Canvas. Grades were almost always delayed--this caused quite the headache trying to fix with the registrar at the end of the quarter. Other than that, would take again.
He is a good professor. You can ask questions and he is reachable. The class wasn't too hard but I learned a lot in class. The class was one you would enjoy.
He's a fantastic professor and his polisci class is an amazing and extremely good class. It's one of the best sources of knowledge I've ever gotten for my interest in political science. He's also an extremely caring and understanding professor. He really does care about your success in his class.
There's around 4 hours a week of work, which is feasible to complete in one day. There are discussion assignments and quizzes every week which are easy to get full points if you put in decent effort. Sometimes directions are vague so ask questions. The professor is accessible outside of class, I recommend resending an email if no reply in 24 hrs.
Easy stand up class. If you just read the chapters (no notes) should get a 100 on each test. The tests were open book, so just go back and review a small portion when taking the test. Very easy, interesting links to outside material, the text reading could get a little long. Really just reading the book, and some outside stuff, but interesting.
He is a very good professor, I really enjoyed taking his class, he gives from 2 to 4 assignments a week however the assignments are easy to do and he is an easy grader, take him if you want easy A. He is very nice and he cares about his students so if you are having trouble email him because he will help you.
Loved this class and the professor so much! Was soo flexible and willing to help students to succeed. Would take again
I enjoyed my proffesor, especially during the pandemic I was stressing that online would be hard for me. I usually learn better when Im in a classroom but jabril made sure I got the help I needed, taught me one on one to APA cite and gave me good feedback.
The workload for each week was clear: a quiz, discussion post, textbook reading, and an assignment to go with the reading. I managed to do it all in one day several weeks. Also, for the final paper, he helped me pick a topic and basically outlined my paper for me when I talked to him. Overall pretty easy class.
There is way too much work in American Government, there are multiple discussion posts per week, along with chapter readings, chapter assignments, and a quiz, which are usually easy. I found myself doing more work in this class than my 3 other classes combined. If you want to sit at your desk all day, this is the professor for you.
Jabril is the easiest professor to get in contact with. He really does want his students to do well so he is literally available 7 days/ week. The workload for the class are fairly more than my other class but it is easy. He is great at accommodating with me if I need more time on a paper. This class is interesting and it was worth taking.
The course was taken online and contained a heavy workload. Lots of reading and writing. I'm sure this would've been an easier class to take in-person. Professor was tough on grading and assignments are worth a lot. If there were more assignments allowing for them to not be worth so much it would more beneficial. Overall the Professor was helpful!
Had Prof. Hassen for Civics credit in 2021, and he was amazing! Although history was never my strong part, this class broadened my view along with an interesting textbook, so definitely recommended for future students. Make sure to read the textbook though, without it you won't pass!
Great guy, super chill and accommodating
Professor Hassen is such a good person and teacher. He responds to emails super fast and is really great at answering questions. The homework load is completely reasonable, basically just reading a chapter per week and responding to a few discussions. Make sure to go to office hours! He gives great advice about careers and colleges and mentoring.
Awesome guy. Javril is honestly one of if not the best teacher that I have had. Very accessible, flexible, and there to help you succeed. He acts more like a friend in his teaching style which makes him very enjoyable to be taught by. Its too bad his class was online as I heard his classes are incredible. Overall, 100% best option.
On foenem, Mr. Hassen is an absolute legend hands down.
Funniest dude you'll meet. Very caring and attentive to his students and will do all he can to help you succeed. The workload is manageable and you'll definitely learn something in this class!
Professor JAH is super caring and understanding. The workload is a little more than I'm used to so I was struggling a lot the first two weeks, but he took time out of his day to have a phone call with me and give me some advice on how to deal with my procrastination head on. He is also super funny and laid back, and I learned a lot in this class!!
I LOVE prof hassen !!! he is so sweet and really shows how much he cares about his students. the class as a whole struggled to meet the word count on assignments weekly so he lowered it by a whole 500? gave us an easier time on the final essay and met with us individually. very knowledgeable in the subject and I'm so glad i was able to take him :)
If you do all the assignments easy A. The assignments consist of a weekly discussion, a chapter assignment, and a chapter quiz. No word count for discussions. Chapter assignments are the end of chapter questions from the textbook. Only have to pick 3 of 5 to do and not high word count for each. Quiz is 3-5 multiple choice with 2-5 written response.
Amazing! He was very understanding. His grading was great!!! Would definitely take another class from him.
I have never been more disappointed in a class/professor. Professor Hassen started the class 5 days late. The entirety of the class consists of reading the textbook and answering the questions at the end of the chapter. To top it off, after teaching nothing, he grades unnecessarily harshly. Save your money: go with a different professor or Youtube.
Prof. Hassen is pretty good. I didn't like that he started his class a week after it should have started but no biggie. His weekly work takes quite a bit of time especially if you read the chapter and take notes like I did. I often struggled to meet the word count for his assignments. Over all he is organized and knows what he is teaching for sure.
Best professor I have ever had. You will not regret taking him. He is super nice and easy going. As long as you read the weekly chapters and take notes and do the work to the best of your ability, you will absolutely succeed in this class. Professor Hassen genuinely cares about each student and wants everyone to succeed. PLEASE TAKE HIS CLASS.
Best professor I ever had, he really steps out of his way to help you and make sure you understand the topics of everything. Will do everything he can to help you out I definitely recommend him!
Professor Hassen is amazing. There is a lot of work that has to be completed but it is manageable once you get the hang of it. How each week looks: chapter reading + about 600 word response, chapter quiz, movies/articles/etc + discussions + responding to classmates. Final is a 1500-2500 word paper. 100% recommend his class. My favorite professor.
The whole class was reading from the textbook and doing assignments and discussions. He focused mainly on racial discrimination in American Government more than he did actual American Government. No final but an essay. Loves word counts.
I truly had an amazing time in this class. Professor JAH is one of the best professors ever and is someone who truly cares about his students. He makes coming to get help super easy. You will not regret taking his class! I promise!!!
This professor was very patient and understanding! He was the last credit that I needed to graduate but I was going through a lot therefore my grades slipped. He was willing to work w me on an academic plan to get me through his class. I really appreciate how much he cares about his students. If you get the chance to take his classes do it!!! 10/10
Has to be the most caring and genuine professor I've had at BC. Any help I ever needed he made time to call and provide mountains of resources, whether it was for an assignment or even just for topics that extended past what we were learning. He makes POLS actually engaging and the support he offers outside of class is super motivating.
Really cares about students and what he's teaching, the class is very engaging and uses a lot of different sources besides the textbook. There's a lot of writing in the class but he is very good with late work, and probably the most understanding professor I've ever had.
Mr. Hassen is really caring about student who dont have a good grade in his class, he would reach out and offer them extra credit works to make it up. Overall he is chill, make us feels like a connection between student and teacher. He is busy all the time but if you need help and give him some notice he wouldnt mind to contact you at all.
By providing a variety of different media for learning, Professor Hassen helps cultivate a loving for the subject. By connecting textbook concepts to real world events and issues, he helps offer a fantastic oppurtinity for students to analyze the world around them. Additionally, Hassen provides useful feedback while maintaing an approachable nature
Had him for political science, no complaints. He has you read a decent amount of the textbook but everything is pretty straight forward and as long as you communicate with him, he's flexible. Definitely recommend
Instructor Jabril has been hands down one of the most amazing teachers I ever came across. I was honestly shocked at how considerate and kind he is. He has helped not only me but majority of the students feel welcomed and comfortable in his class. He makes sure that everyone student has a chance of putting in 110% and I hope you guys take him.
Before I signed up for Mr. Hassen's class, I checked Rate My Professor and I thought he sounded like an organized teacher, but that's not what I got. The material of the class isn't difficult, but navigating the unorganized assignments and discussions is hard. On top of that, for an "apolitical" class, much of the material leans in one direction.
He was a fun guy, tons of energy and not very formal. We read tons of our textbook and had to do a solid amount of writing each week, but overall not too bad. He's easy to reach outside of class as well. I didn't have much direct contact with him honestly, but I'm sure he's a good prof in-person too.
Debatable was one of the best teachers I have ever had in my entire life. Super nice, funny, if you ask for help he responds. Very understanding, a lot of concepts may be difficult but he is really good at teaching and explaining and makes you think.
Jabril is a real blessing. There isn't any better word to describe him. He really goes out of his way to connect with you even though we don't have zoom calls and we're all online. He really goes above and beyond for his students. This amazing professor will take time out of his day to have a phone call with you on a weekend about a tough topic.
I rarely leave reviews but I had to leave one for Jabril Hassen, this man is literally the G.O.A.T. He is amazing and extremely respectful, his assignments are also entertaining, easily the best teacher I have ever taken. Would definitely recommend to anyone. Hassen is the type of teacher you would see on the news for being so kind and dope!
only time I talked to professor Hassen was through the phone when going over my topic for the essay, although then he sounded like he really knew what he was talking about that did not reflect in the assignments he gave. All the assignments were reading from the textbook and then answer the questions at the end. all work was repetitive and boring.
Professor Jabril is a great political science teacher I learned a lot and really enjoyed the class. I had an issue with a final grade and he was so helpful in fixing it. He's a great teacher and really cares about his students. His curriculum was set up very well and was easy to navigate. Would recommend 100%
REALLY boring class. I only talked to him once, and he seems like his class would be great in-person. If you're just looking for an easy A then you're in the right place. Every week is reading from a textbook, answering questions, and doing a quiz. Lots of course materials seem to be biased in one direction so take everything with a grain of salt.
Grading is not harsh as long as you know what subject you are talking about when submitting discussion posts in canvas. Studying does not take up much of your time. Take an hour or so out of your day to read the textbook since most assignments are two chapters a week. Express your opinion on the subject. Don't worry about giving a wrong answer.
Professor Hassen was amazing!! I took pols101 and he was so great I'm taking him again next quarter for American gov. Easy grader but I still learned a lot.
A lot of writing is required with Ja, however, if you can show some bias in your writing you can get an A. Also, make sure to be thoughtful with your writing. Don’t just make it obvious that you are trying to be biased.
Jabril is an amazing teacher, he is very easygoing. Assignments are very easy and criteria are very easy to meet. This is class is definitely one of my favorites as I learned a lot and the class was very easy. As long as you meet the criteria that he gives with his assignments you will get an A in his class. I definitely recommend him.
I wouldn't take this professor. His grading criteria is unclear, only specifying the word count, and will give you a bad grade without stating why. There is a lot of homework which isn't unmanageable but it is very time consuming. I took this professor because of the great reviews but he really was just average at best and completely unreachable.
Very communicative with the students in what they may need in order to pass the class as well providing any support needed.
I took Professer Hassen's CRJS 5130 (Critical Criminology) at Seattle University. He was a great professor and actually cared about his students. His assignements are clear and pretty simple to follow as were the mid-term and final presentation. He is also good about giving you some extra time on stuff if you need it. Very understanding and great!
Took the class for the credit. Prof is really chill and allows you to work ahead. Great professor. All in all, I'd take him again.
A self-study course requiring motivation and dedication. One bad personal experience where he replied to a simple "grading my late assignment" one-liner email a little over a month later. Instructor and various resources are there as support, and the more effort you put in, the better you will understand. Entirely discussion posts with few tests.
He's pretty easy going and if you ask for help he'll explain everything, puts in a lot of time to make sure you understand. He's not too strict on late work and allows you to have extensions. sort of heavy workload but as long as you stay on top of it you should be good. He's all around one of the nicest teachers I had at south Seattle college.
Very understanding and the lectures are very fun to attend. He is understanding and genuinely wants everyone to learn. I didn't even need to study cause the content was so interesting. Wish this was a required class cause its extremely important information.
By far the best teacher I've had. Professor Hassen is a fair grader, great lecturer, super caring and just very charismatic overall. CJ242 was an incredible course and I learned a ton. Definitely recommend taking a class with Professor Hassen if you are interested in our criminal legal system (or are simply invested in social justice).
Professor Jah is amazing at teaching. His criteria are clear and is always there to support you. It fast paced and the readings are alright nothing too big. As long as you understand the main concepts of the course you will succeed in class. Professor Jah has amazing lectures which makes you want to come to class.
A legendary guy who is always ready to help anyone if need be. Class is pretty work-heavy with many assignments laid out through the weeks however I found the content to be very interesting. The final paper isn't too bad and Hassen will personally help you lay the entirety of it out.
Professor Hassen was a great lecturer, a very engaging and fun class to take in person. Be ready to actively participate in person. Prof is very accommodating and caring, he definitely wants you to succeed. Take this class in person, you will enjoy it way more. Your writing and participation are what matters most!
Professor Hassen has got to be the best teacher. He ensures that all students are supported through their journey and provides support to those who need help. He also keeps a consistent pace throughout the quarter and values student feedback. Thank you for helping me learn, being passionate, and helping your students learn.
100% the best professor I have ever had. He will always be there for you if you have any questions or need help with something. He shows every student how much he cares about their success. All assignment are super straight forward and have very detailed instructions. I would defiantly take this class again if I could.
Super caring and nice :) The work personally was quite time consuming, especially since the topics were a little confusing to me and I spent lots of time on this class. Weekly work revolved a lot around the chapter (avg. 28-40 pgs), u needed to read the chapter, do the assignment, discussion post, quiz.
Prof. Hassen's online course was very straightforward. The weekly assignments were to read a chapter and then do a discussion post with outside sources, chapter questions, and an essay question quiz. This totaled over 1500 words weekly and was my most time-consuming class. The late work policy is two weeks for 85%, final is a 1500-2500 word essay.
Professor Hassan really made my first year at Bellevue college enjoyable! I am glad I took him and would 100% take him again for any class. Please take his courses online or in person! Yes, the class is a bit reading heavy but with weekly assignments for a quiz, chapter reading and discussion questions. Thank you professor Hassan!!!!
I took this class a while ago, but the thought of this class makes me dread it. A lot of reading, he loves word counts, basically grades everything at the end of the quarter, and not that easy to reach. He also changed the syllabus right after the due date to withdraw from the class without getting a W on your transcript
Took Winter of 2022. Good, kind, and accessible professor. However, there is an overwhelming amount of content reading and videos. Be very wary of that. There are numerous discussions on the topics covered in the video and readings. There are word counts for assignments and discussions. You must devote a significant amount of time to the class.
Weekly textbook readings are around 25-35 pages, along with a weekly assignment, discussion, and quiz! The content itself is interesting and the assignments and quizzes are very easy if you read and take notes. Professor is a little hands off, but grades very leniently!
He is an extremely easy grader, but needs students to write at least 2,000 words a week with the amount of assignment and homework he gives out. He way of speech is unprofessional. His final essay had many requirements but grades very easily. The only difficulty was in the sheer amount of hw he gave out. He has many mind numbing lecture videos.
He was so nice and he was willing to help and work together. For the final paper essay, he gave each student outline to start off their essay for their topic(but the meeting is optional to receive an outline or not). He basically set all the outlines for us from beginning to end. He was really caring and he want us to succeed. It's FREE A!!!!
The course was very easy, although heavily reliant on the textbook for literally everything which made it very boring. The professor wanted to help his students but was hard to reach sometimes and said he would reach out several times but often forgot, was kind of flaky. Overall, easy course would take again for credit with a different professor.
Probably the best teacher at bellevue. Taking him again for intro to poly because he was that good. Really does care about his students and his class is straight forward. Able to set up meeting with him like I did with the final and he give you a whole outline to go off of. Take him if you can!
The assignments had a clear grading criteria but they were often very long. Each week consisted of at least a discussion post, textbook assignment, and quiz. Assignments on average consisted of a 600 word count total (sometimes less). Overall, he's an easy grader as long as you hit your word counts and complete your work each week.
Professor Hassen was pretty good throughout the quarter except for a few things. Firstly, he would take at least 3-4 weeks to grade assignments which brings me to my second point. We had a 1500-word minimum research paper due by the last day of the quarter which didn't matter because he didn't grade it since he took so long. It was a waste of time.
I had this professor multiple times and his teachings are very easy if you read the papers, and he is caring to students. He also accepts late work, except for quizzes. One of my favorite professors!! Definitely take him
Professor Hassen is a really nice teacher, he provides class materials for free. He is an easy grader and you can get A or A+ by simply meeting the requirements like time, content, word count. There's a 2 weeks grace period for 85% or even 100% of the initial grade you would get. Workload is pretty intense but has fixed deadlines each week.
Prof. Hassen is hands down the best prof at BC, he's super nice and is replies to emails quickly, despite POLS 202 being a heavy content class he had the class very organized and was a SUPER EASY GRADER. the course had consist of weekly quizzes, discussion posts and video recorded discussion posts, the final was about an essay about a topic inclass
If you listen to one review listen to this. Do not be fooled by the ratings like I was. I saw his class was easy and so I took it. However, he never responded to emails that left me with an F for most of the semester. If there is any mistake with a grade, good luck because chances are it will not be fixed. Assignments are boring and he never grades
Tons of reading, tons of writing. Maybe this class would be slightly different if it was in-person because he is a cool, funny guy but virtually he is pretty harsh on grading. DO NOT take this class if you are looking for something easy or aren't prepared to spend 6-8 hours on homework.
He is really funny, lectures are fun too, but be ready to read a lot and participate in discussions online. He gives good feedback and if you're running behind that's okay, he will give extra time. I really did enjoy his class but lots of reading is not my field.
amazing professor, teaches great content take his course he's great
There wasn't an option available, but I took CES 181 with Prof Hassen. He is an amazing professor and cares about his students' success. There is quite a bit of writing and reading involved but it's expected with a history class; he is an easy grader and is generous with extensions if needed.
I greatly admire Jabril Hassen's extensive knowledge and abilities in explaining/conveying topics. He provides a consistent workload so you are constantly learning and never have to worry about cramming assignments all in one week. Additionally, lectures are extremely engaging and well thought out!
Easiest class I've ever taken, discussion post and written assignments, no final, easy grader and understanding
Easiest class I've ever taken, discussion post and written assignments, no final, easy grader and understanding (review below was meant for pos202)
Very unhelpful and biased to all of their own opinions, meaning anything you write will not be read open-mindedly.
The first non-AP political science course i took was Pols203, and as a student intending to earn a degree in international security and international relations at a high level, I am geniunely surprised and inspired by Professor Hassens choice of curriculum and in-depth readings/analysis that the class is centered on.
Unorganized and outdated prompts for assignments, discussion requirements was poorly communicated and I had to confirm via Canvas message and it wasn't clarified to the rest of the class. Posted grades late, syllabus info is inaccurate at times, etc. But the class wasn't difficult other than those things.
Professor Hassen is an excellent teacher. His lectures are engaging, and he explains quiz concepts well. While it's a bit challenging to reach him outside of class, he's very understanding in person. Additionally, he's one of the most flexible professors I've ever had, offering lots of extra credit opportunities and accepting late work!
PLEASE take this class if you need an easy A+ for a Social Science credit. Pros: -Very little work, takes ~2-3 hours combined weekly. -As long as you do the very easy work properly you WILL easily end the class with 100%. Cons: -In the first 2 weeks, you might be confused on how to do the work, but its very easy to get the hang of. -Hard to reach.
Be prepared to spend a lot of time on work. Teacher was nice, but slow grading and class ended up more stressful than it needed to be.
The amount of reading is crazy, bro gave me the most confusing and hardest work I ever got.
He is a terrible communicator. He has discussion posts which are worth many points, and he doesnt provide a rubric for them or clear instructions. When he grades and gives you a score, he does not comment anything or why he gave you that score. He posts the modules for the week late on monday or tuesday instead of monday morning like normal profs.
Follow his rules, get an A. SUPER lenient. Though structure is kinda confusing at first, you'll get used to it. Responds to text WAY faster than email (posts his phone #) gives good feedback if u ask him Q's (on final paper). Only thing weird was recording discussions instead of j writing them. Overall, def take him, pretty chill prof & class!
The class was a breeze. All the discussion posts and assignments were easy As as long as you followed the requirements. Makes sure you spend a lot of time on your essay. This is the one assignment where the expectation is exceeding standards. My friends who followed the min requirements got Bs. Do not this paper lightly
everything is an easy A except for the final paper, make sure to take it seriously if you want an A
Hassen is such an amazing professor! He is extremely understanding of your circumstances outside of class and will not hesitate to give you an extension on work if you ask him. Definitely one of the best professors I've taken a class from. Very easy grader as well, and his instructions are always clear.
Main thing that stood out was what a terrible communicator he was. It truly made taking this class excruciating. His instructions were confusing and would not respond to emails. No rubrics were given at all in this class and the syllabus was barely followed. Many assignments were out of date like the get to know you, it had a quarantine question.
At the very start of the quarter while taking this class, someone I was really close with passed away, very unexpectedly. My grade dropped fast, as I was really struggling at the time. I ended up talking with this professor, and he was more understanding and caring then I could have even asked for. He went above and beyond to help me.
Professor Hassen runs a challenging yet rewarding class. The workload can be intense, but engaging lectures and clear instructions make it manageable. Unstuck AI and other study tools like ChatGPT are great resources to supplement the course. Overall, a worthwhile experience.
guys if you want an easy A and want to be able to understand the course take this professor. He is truly amazing you can reach him very easily even though it was an online class. he is easy grader, he cares for you. I wish I could tell you how much of an amazing professor he is. i am seriously telling you take his class you will not regret it. :)
Take this professor right now you will not regret it. An easy grader he is informative and will reply to you very quickly and he cares about you deeply. PLEASE take him he is seriously a gem you would be doing the wrong decision if you don't take him. assignments are very easy to do, and manage, and informative.his online class is organized.
Wow that was so much work. The credit legend states that a 5 credit class calls for 5 hours a week worth of effort. ONE EXAM TOOK ME MORE THAN 10 HOURS. Four essays for a single exam. Easy grader, TOO MUCH WORK ON THE EXAM.
Class was a bit more difficult so prepare for about 2-3 hours of reading. It was very discussion board heavy, make sure to follow the instructions so you can get all your points! If you follow the rubric, you will be fine. For final essay - utilize his help!!!! He really is a gem and was so nice, you will have to work for it but it's worth it!
Such an amazing teacher and if you actually put in the effort it is an easy A
Poor Communication. Doesn't answer his emails at all. Makes you record every assignment. Doesn't even give you the chance to resubmit your assignment after you are given unclear instructions. If you want a quick credit, take the class by any means. But if you care about earning a good grade and actually learning the material simply look elsewhere.
I really enjoyed taking this class because of the organization of work. It was very patterned of how what kinds of assignments we would have a week and since it was similar each week, I could improve my presentations and assignments. I appreciate that he is not an unrealistic grader and I highly recommend taking this class for your civics credit.
as a running start student, his class was probably the easiest A i've ever gotten, even compared to the high school classes i've taken. all you have to do is record a discussion post, reply to 2 other students, and answer 4 questions to one textbook chapter each week, with some occasional open-note tests. he also has accommodations for discussions!
Professor never answered emails, took ages to grade assignments, gives unclear instructions with no way to make up assignments. Course content is relatively easy and most of your grade is based on presentations.
Overall this was an easy class but there were a couple of annoying things. discussions had to do voice notes and you always had to do a powerpoint with it. it would be way quicker to do a typed discussion. It was bad bc not everyone submitted the same way and you couldnt always access it. also just high word counts. not hard just time consuming.
I took this class for my history credit, it was a bit tricky at the beginning but afterwards I got used to the fast paste and long chapters. His very understanding and helpful.
Doesnt respond to emails Unclear instructions No way to make up work Hiding behind a screen scared to regrade No common sense WILL TAKE HALF POINTS OFF ASSIGNMENT FOR SMALL MISTAKE LIKE USING GOOGLE DOCS INSTEAD OF WORD EVEN THOUGH BOTH WERE IN THE INSTRUCTIONS
Easily the best professor I have ever had. Helped me through and through on what to do and helped me to follow all the instructions with assignments and how to turn them in the correct way. I recommend that everyone have Professor Hassen for POLS203; he is a great teacher and has a good way of helping students get on track and helping them learn.
hes a good teacher class is interesting takes time to email back could just be me but idk. emailed him 10 days ago still haven't gotten a response
Overall the professor was great, but the class, at least the online version, was a bit of a sleeper class. But it is easy work; I would say about 5 hours per week of work, but he is a slow grader for sure. I would take it again.
He seems like a nice guy and I have nothing against him as a person, but I feel like you are mainly graded on the PowerPoint presentations, which you also have to record audio commentary for, which I feel makes the assignment very time consuming, and arbitrary.
This professor is very kind person, but when it comes to his class it is very overwhelming. His assignments have very high word counts and you are graded by your PowerPoints. Sometimes you would be given 3 assignments with each having several questions, each question would have a time minimum.
The assignments are the exact same every week with no variety (4 pages handwritten notes of an online textbook & submitted online + discussion post) and he takes 3+ weeks to grade them. At one point, he didn't post the module until halfway through the week. Honestly this class kind of sucks and you should only really take it if you have to.
THIS PROFESSOR WILL NOT RESPOND TO YOUR EMAILS!! I've sent countless emails and would only get responses 1 month later or never. Overall a good professor, he will let you complete late assignments if told in advance and overall is a caring professor.
This professor does not respond to emails! Which is fine. His coursework feels heavy with 80 page readings a week, 4 pages of notes and a recorded discussion but its manageable if you focus for a bit. He grades fairly lightly and is fair so long as you follow his guidelines. An A is definitely manageable. He also takes around 3 weeks to grade
