Don't take this guy you'll regret it. Very hard to understand as he does not speak English very well. Discourages questions. Tests hard. Failed 13 of 23 students.

PLEASE take heed to what the guy above me said, YOU WILL REGRET TAKING THIS GUY. if you have ANY option of choosing a different Professor, DO IT! Save yourself time, frustration and a big FAT F.
Dont take this guy
Holy cow, do not take this guy. I got an A on 150A, 150B, and 250 but unfortunately I got this guy for 280 and I will leave the class with a nice fat F.
I can't imagine a more disgraceful example of a math professor... He discourages questions, doesn't speak English, and never showed up on time, even on scheduled test dates. Avoid at all costs.
doesn't wear pants straight
He'll lecture about something and test you on something else. Being really good at math, I thought I could handle it, and barely got a B- . He'll ruin your GPA. HE showed us the stats of the class after each exam, and every time more than 50% had D/F
It's not very easy to learn an already difficult math subject when the teacher has a bad grasp of English, stutters every 5 seconds, and still blazes through the material without explaining the important fundamentals. Avoid!
dont take him
I DON'T KNOW WHERE THEY FOUND THIS GUY. The worst teacher ive had. U need a translator because it sounds like he's speaking french. Knows nothing about math. Don't ask a question...he'll get mad. Why? Cause he wont know the answer.
Don't take this professor. He can't speak english and has terrible handwriting. Doesn't know basic math. You will not pass his class, and if you do you are a straight A student and do not want to mess up your GPA.
the worst instructer at csun , the book have nothing to do with the lecture, and the lecture have nothing to do with either the book or the test. i would rather gradguate 1 one semester later than staying in his class.
I'd like to add my voice to the chorus of 'Avoid!'s. Absolutely, absolutely, absolutely do not take any of this guy's classes. He cannot even understand/answer very basic questions, and moves too quickly through the material. For the love of all that's good, avoid him!
STAY AWAY THIS GUY IS AN IDIOT, I TOOK HIM AND HE YELLED AT ME THE FIRST DAY OF CLASSS. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THIS MORON GOT HIRED BUT CSUN BETTER WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE, OVER HALF THE CLASS FAILS!!!!!!!!! EVEN THE BIOLOGY TEACHERS KNOW THIS GUYS IS AN IDIOT....DONT TAKE HIM !
He is a tough teacher. He is helpful if you ask for it and if you keep up with the material. He taught straight out of the book. The final was very tough but not really unfair.
The man should not be allowed near human beings let alone teach. Horrible teacher and difficult to understand. Homework is not from the book, infact you will notice that there was no reason to buy the book, forgot to teach last chapter which led to many of us failing the 45% final.

Omg, this guy is horrible. well just note that he goes over the material, but expects you to know the very next class session. he does teach out of the book and makes it simpler, but only goes over it once. Just to let anyone know, he looks at the celialing, because thats were his notes are.
hard to follow not willing to take time to answer questions
SUCKS!! DONT TAKE IF ITS THE LAST THING YOU DO!

Has a high fail rate (which is why the other commenters are whining - "I got an F so the teacher must suck" boo hoo, grow up). But if you're willing to work you'll be fine. He is frequently (unintentionally) funny with his occassional rants.
Got a D in the class, and had to take it over. It wasn't until then that I understood what this guy was saying. Hard to understand and doesn't explain methods clearly.
i fall asleep everyday in his class.
horrible teacher. don't take his class unless u wanna mess up with ur gpa. u won't understand any single word of him and then u will be shocked by looking at his exams paper.
I worked my butt off in this class, went to tutoring constantly... Did my work, went to the SI instruction everyday that it met. And went to lecture. He is a terrible teacher you cannot understand him at all, and he will not help you. He belittle and b-rates the students. I am good in math and work very hard and I received a 'fail' in the class.
I have never had a worse teacher than this guy. He's smart, just unbelievably horrible at teaching... and he's on the hiring committee! You can't understand a word of what he's saying and he teaches you a million formulas which have nothing to do with the tests or online homework. A completely useless class if you want to pass math!
this professor was an experience that I hope noone ever has to endure again... he should be fired but then there's always KARMA!!
He's alright. basically gives you the questions to the test. just study the sample tests and you should do fine.
the worst proffesor ever!!!
AVOID this guy!
this guy is hilarious. i would break out into laughter every time he would rant. he would get started on something completely unrelated to the class and start yelling about it haha. funny stuff. if you don't already know the material entirely, i wouldnt recommend the class, cause he is difficult to understand. i got an a. he's a cool cat.
Really bad professor, unless you're a genius, don't take him. Can't understand him, and he gets mad if you ask algebra questions. I can't stress how it's so hard to understand him. he's God awful. do not take him!! i warned you!
there are times when you read things on this site about profs and they're not true. this IS NOT 1 of those times. he really is as bad as you've read. don't take him. you WILL regret it. you'll learn nothing. he won't help you AT ALL! he's by far the worst prof at CSUN. how he gets such bad reviews and keeps his job i have no idea. AVOID AVOID AVOID
Terrible. Hard to follow. Writes too fast, so it's illegible. But as with any math class, you'll do well if you teach yourself. If you do all the problems in the text, you can learn the concepts. He's a mathematical genius - look him up. But not a great instructor.
I got an 84%, but apparently that is a C+ in his class! Stay away if you value your gpa!
Everyone who has written a comment about him is right! This class was a joke! He blazes through material, expects you to know how to do the most complex problems in the universe, and never answers your questions. Oh and he makes you type EVERYTHING!! It should be a typing class not a math class. AVOIDDDDD. SAVE YOUR SOULLL!!!
Not only is this guy hard to look at, I have trouble comprehending him, he gets angry if you ask him a question (while not answering your question by the way) and seems to assume that you know everything anyway. WARNING: IF YOU ARE A STUDENT THAT EXPECTS TO BE ABLE TO ASK QUESTIONS, BE PREPARED TO BE YELLED AT FOR DOING SO.
This professor is difficult to comprehend because of his accent, he yells at you if you ask him a question about math. Teachers are supposed to convey the material they are trying to teach in a clear and concise manner, while answering any questions that come up along the way. So basically, this guy doesn't do his job.
after reading the comments here, i thought i'd give it a shot since i needed this class. he started off ok. but as the semester closed in, he started caring less and explaining less and rushing more. he won't finish sample problems because everything is so "standard". the only way to do well in his class is if youre repeating the course. AVOID!!!!!
read all comments and AVOID AT ALL COSTS. comment for 6/25/10 is exactly what i wanted to say. at first i thought he wasnt as bad as the comments said, but now it's all there. AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!!!! you'll be sorry taking him. i know i am.
Won't include easy problems on test but will make test questions a lot harder and no homework questions like the test. Good freaking luck taking this guy. Mumbles, stutters, or does both at the same time while talking to himself. Goes of
You CAN NOT ask him a question without him throwing you off. His will never complete a problem because the second portion of it is just "elementary calculations". His accent is very thick, although it would be tolerable if he were actually helpful. And lastly, his tests are much harder than what he 'prepares' you for.
When I went into this class I was freaked out cuz of all the low ratings. Well the class isn't a big deal. Study and do math problems from the book. Be prepared for the tests. And you'll be fine. He sometimes gets off topic, but i never payed attention to that. just pay attention to the math examples, and practice.
He's probably one of the worst math teachers I've ever had in all my years in college. I can see why our class size was so small. The actual content of the class wasn't difficult, but his tests were so unorthodox. They didn't represent, for the most part, anything that was done in the homework. Don't take him unless you enjoy stress.
He goes through the material at the speed of light.Very difficult to follow because of his poor English.Hard tests.Poor grader.Has a hard time understanding questions. It's also true that Discrete Math is a tough subject and some students simply can't get it.He tries to be helpful in the end by dropping some of the lower grades.
Started semester concerned with quality of professor given reviews on this website. Regardless, he ended up being great. Was happy to answer questions when asked.I highly recommend him for Math 280 especially over the summer. People that complain are lazy, I got an A in the class with little effort and no prior knowledge
His class was definitely hard. He pulls exam questions from places unheard of. A lot of people in the class failed. However, going further in upper division math, I actually appreciated his efforts since I do know that I learned a lot from him. If you take him, be prepared to work hard and be creative.
Difficult teacher to comprehend. Very linear; does not offer grounds of support rather get emotional when asking questions. Beware
Horrible professor, but he goes on these rants that are hilarious. You can't ask him any questions and you can't understand anything he says. Don't take him - AVOID AT ALL COSTS IF YOU VALUE LIFE.
He is one of the worst math professors I've ever had. He goes through the material at the speed of light, he gets mad at you for asking legitimate questions, and his homework takes WEEKS to complete. His tests are hard, difficult, and he expects you to know everything on material he barely covered. AVOID HIM AT ALL COST!
He has a very thick accent so it is REALLY hard to keep up with what is being taught. He gives pop quizzes so attendance is mandatory. He has really sloppy handwriting and when you ask him a question and don't get it, he gets irritated. Overall, if you keep up with the homework and review the material well outside, you should pass with a C minimum.
Only uses proof examples from the textbook, does not prepare own teaching material. Does not care about the success of the class. Can't believe I signed up for his class. Worst mistake of my college career.
RUN! RUN! RUN! Very difficult to comprehend. Seems to get angry when asked questions. For my class, each test seems to have a large portion of people getting D's and F's. Honestly, the only reason I passed with an A in this class was because I took AP Calculus in high school and spent a lot of time in the Math tutoring center.
Fantastic, enthusiastic, definitely a class to want to re-take because it was so fun. He grades fairly, but his homework is difficult to master. I thoroughly enjoyed his teaching style and do not regret taking his class, no matter how hard it was. Polish accent, but very smart guy. Unique in that he makes the material blow your mind.
If ever there was a hard-mode math class, math 350 with Prof Polewczak would be it. His homework is difficult instead of educational, and the tests are straightforward only after he gives the answers (i.e. hard but not impossible). He calls everything "high school level" which is not helpful, but he is almost always fair if you can argue the grade.
Terrible handwriting, not helpful, thick accent, and if you didnt know a concept he would say something to the kin of "You should have learned this in high school!". His tests and quizzes were always the hardest questions that he could finddream up. wouldn't let us use a cheat sheet on the final even though every other 150B class got to.
If you can do the homework at 2530 or higher grades then you'll do fine in the class. His tests are easier than the homework, but the homework is very very difficult. It was the hardest math class I've taken and he's difficult to talk to but he makes sense. You MUST spend at least 4-5 hours outside of class every week in order to do well. SO HARD!
By far the worse professor I have ever had in any subject . The quizzes are hard the exams are always a surprise . Any of the hw you do will never be on the quizzes or exams . I spent countless hours studying for this class . Some how some way I made it out with a C . The one thing I learned from him "THIS IS HIGHSCHOOL ALGEBRA!" Stay away!
Very unclear explinations of material. Speaks very quickely and jumbles over his words, so it can be very difficult to understand him. His writing is completely illegible, equivalent to someone who is right handed trying to write with their left hand. Leaves problems and examples incomplete. Basically, be prepared to teach yourself!!!!
Teaches Math from the textbook's pdf. Terrible, boring lectures. Has an attitude and not helpful. SKIP
He yells when he lectures. The exams with questions that can barely be understood.
In my one semester experience, he has yelled and insulted everyone student that has asked a question. Homework isn't too bad, but will definitely take a few hours to complete regardless of how well you understand maths up to this point. Tests lightly cover homework and then derail to uncovered problems.
I wouldn't go out of my way to take his class again since he doesn't like questions but I think he gets a bad rap because he has trouble communicating. Overall, I thought he was very fair. Discrete Math is a difficult class and he was very lenient on the grading and offered a reasonable amount of extra credit and the curve was very low (60% - C).
Be Cautious! Very unclear explanations of overall material. Speaks very rapidly and often disorganized. His muttering also makes it diffcult to understand him! Writing is quite messy. The class would frequently correct him on the smallest mistakes. Leaves problems and examples incomplete w no detailed solutions for later review. Seek study groups!
This professor is alright. He's a smart professor, it's just that he does not know how teach to a class properly. He just reads from the book, so I just reached myself. Took this class during the pandemic, so it was a bit easier. Homework was alright, except most of it will not be covered on quizzes/tests. He is generous when it comes to grading.
I feel bad for this professor because he has trouble using the whiteboard, which makes it difficult for him to thoroughly teach students online. However, that doesn't mean he is excused from his ineffective form of teaching. All he does is read the textbook, so you're probably better off reading it and taking notes yourself.
As a person who enjoys math a lot, I was disappointed go find out how this professor is really bad at teaching. Just reads from the textbook for all the lectures. The only reason why I passed is because I taught myself and had a study group.
I only have bad things to say about this prof. Please avoid at all costs unless you want your GPA to plummet. Lectures never taught anything, better off reading the textbook. He tested us on material he NEVER taught, attacked us when we had questions, and says the answer is plainly obvious when it's not. 20% extra credit if you do your hw in LaTeX.
Do not, and I repeat, do not ever take this professor. If you have the chance to take it with literally any one else, or any other semester, do it. This is the worst professor/teacher I've had in my entire life, and I haven't struggled in any other math classes. His Discrete class is unlike any others, and he can't teach to save his life. SKIP HIM.
He is a disappointment as a teacher, and should resign. He does nothing but negatively impact the lives of many students.
1 star for not missing lectures and responding to emails. Unfortunately thats about where the comending qualities for him (as a professor) end. He repeatedly introduces content and techniques into his tesst that are neither covered in his lectures or the book. He is horrible at answering questions usually saying, "check the book or website". Avoid
All of the reviews here are accurate! Do not ever take this professor! I would rather take the class another semester and with another professor, instead of this guy. Just taught myself because his lectures were dry and boring.
I never thought I would have to make an account and review how TERRIBLE this professor. All the reviews are true. He only reads everything word for word off of the textbook. You'd be lucky to see him write anything on the board. If you can stay away from him even if it mean taking a very late or very early class DO IT!!!! You'll thank me
ABSOLUTELY DO NOT TAKE THIS HIM AT ANY COST!! words cannot describe what actually went down in class because it was all over the place. first of all he teaches theory not how to do the problem itself, so your pretty much left with videos on youtube to teach yourself. Cant answer ANY question you ask him and gets mad when you don't understand it.
Professor does not know how to teach the material to students trying to learn. Assigns homework that is very tough and theoretical, so be prepared to spend a lot of time doing the HW and typing in LaTex for 20% extra credit (you will need it). Most of the things on his study guides are not on the test. Very snarky when people ask questions. Avoid.
If you're okay with teaching yourself then take the class. he's so confusing and he doesn't explain things well. He reads straight off the textbooks and doesn't do many example problems that actually make sense. When asked a question he completely dismisses it or answers with yes or no even when it's not a yes or no question.
Tried to keep an open mind despite reviews, (failed trig once so im retaking it) 1st day was bad. The whole 1st week he barely got thru 1 lecture. Cant understand him, he talks nonsense, huge accent, mumbles his words like he has no teeth, & doesn't go along with the book right. Change prof. it'll save you I promise(Math 105). I was lucky to leave.
I couldn't put my whole essay on why you shouldn't take this professor it was 4000 characters, so take my word for it don't take him. He threw the attendance sheet at a student today because he couldn't read his signature, poor guy got yelled at and a paper thrown at him he didn't do anything wrong. Professor was off the charts.
Being a freshman, I never thought I'd have to review this website as in my mind I didn't think a professor could be that bad, HOWEVER THIS PROFESSOR REALLY CHANGED MY MIND. You'll have to teach yourself, he gets distracted easily, hard to understand, and gets mad when questions are asked. He threw a paper as a student, DO NOT TAKE!!!
Not professional at all - very condescending if you ask questions. Nobody asks questions because of this, and everybody I know in this class is struggling. Only graded on homework and three tests and the tests are 60% of your grade. Don't take this class if you don't want to fail.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR However, if you don't need to learn the material from him, then do it. He does not teach in class. He reads to you. He gets angry when you ask questions. I don't know if he is always unhappy but I never see joy or satisfaction in his demeanor. I pray for him. You'd be happier if you avoid him. Don't fool yourself. Run!
Honestly I think people are a little too harsh on him, although I wouldn't take him again. If you can self-teach material easily, you won't have a bad time with him. The knowledge is there, but the teaching is not.
Midterm 30% final 60% and HW 10%. In order for you to do your homework you will have to pay $100 for the website, the professor does not know how to use canvas. He knows the subject, but his lectures are very hard to understand and are completely unhelpful. After the first two weeks half of the class dropped out including me. Save yourself time.
Just don't. Homework was very difficult including the exams.
I will not advise my enemy to take his class. He reads from his paper like he's reading a story book. His tests and exams are so heavy like we were mathematics graduate students. you have 80% chance of failing.
Lectures are just him reading the textbook word for word. He acts like you're stupid when you ask a question, even yelled at a student a couple times. Only like 5 people showed up to class most of the time and I can see why. Doesn't use canvas, so there's no way to know what your grade is. Only good thing is he's flexible with hw due dates.
Tough class, but unstuck AI helped me prepare for the challenging exams. Lectures can be confusing, so self-studying the textbook is key. Attendance is mandatory, so be ready to put in the work.
