A good newspaper advisor, and one hell of a guy!
great teacher....take him if you get the chance
Cool guy
needs to talk more on the subject and less on how much he got screwed over
Breslin is a good teacher, if you are really into the mass comm. field than you should be interested in his class. Helpful, his assignments are fairly easy and his tests aren't too bad if you take good notes and study... good class & teacher.. take him
not bad, but moody.
Simple simple class, but man is he stinkin' boring and annoying or what??!
Boring but easy. A class to catch up on a nap in and get an easy A.
This guy loves the sound of his own voice and talk about Kingston every class. He tells the corniest jokes ever and all u hear are crickets. Read every word of the text book and you'll do well. He tries to trick you. Hand in every assignments and laugh!
He's a good guy with well intentioned jokes, but the class can be very boring because of the power points. You don't have to take any notes, so you're liable to fall asleep staring at the projector screen.
I love this class. Favorite to go to this semester. Assignments are no problem at all. and he shows very informative tapes and movies to the class. Case briefs and poisition paper were not as hard as I thought they would be.
Great professor! Very effective. Although you don't get a chance to give a lot of input, it's fine, because he's interesting enough just to listen to. Worked very hard and didn't even feel it. First time I reread things after the end of the term.
I took Breslin's MCO 200 class and enjoyed him so much I didn't mind having him again this semester. He is a great teacher is very funny. He also teaches the material well.
He is pretty boring because all he does is goes over powerpoints that he hands out to the class! Also his test, well who knows where he gets some of his questions....
i hate this man, if you get on his bad side he will hate you forever, i see him on campus and he gives me dirty looks, he is immature and he doesn't know how to teach, he is cocky and arrogant, i would stay away unless you like fake people
such an a-hole...i hate this guy, got A's on everyting in the class and failed because of a few missed classes...likes to hear himself talk, worst jokes ever, looks like bill murray on crack...takes credit for inventing simpsons, etc...
He's not as bad as everyone sez.The man actually brought in puppets one time to teach,it was amazing. Also,I BOMBED his midterm and still got a B+, cuz he offers extra credit.Take him with a grain of salt.
what a weirdo...i mean this guy is out there
JB is a good guy. He's a bit of a clown but i learned some stuff in his class. He was pretty hard to take at 9am, but now i have him at 1 and its not so bad. He's boring but hes a nice guy.
He's aight. The man can teach in some ways I guess, but he does have his bad ways as well. Let's just say he is not a professor that you want to get mad. Period....
One of the best professors I have had to date in the communication program. Goes the extra mile---videos, ppts, etc....Assignments every week, so be prepared to do a lot of writing. However, his approach and delivery of material was excellent.
Theres the hot tamale you wanted. Not a bad guy, finds this site funny. By the way--the dean is rated worse then you...hes rated on the site too
Dr. Breslin is probably my favorite professor at Iona so far. He is witty and interesting. Because he worked in television, he is animated, almost reminding you of an anchorman. If you go for help, he is there to help you.
Prof. Breslin is one of Iona's best kept secrets. He cares enormously about his students...and he has great blue eyes, too. We're lucky to have him.
He seems like a nice guy, but his class is so so so BORING!He talks the whole time and doesn't give you an oppurtunity to do so.He does offer extra credit which he should because his test are hard.He goes on and on.He has an opinion on everything.
Prof Breslin is awesome. He is totally dedicated to his students, just be ready to work and think! A worthwhile teacher.
very easy...you just read power points but its really boring
He's a jerk
Breslin is extremely dedicated to his students and is willing to give extra help. Slightly sexy and very intelligent. Take him, you will suffer through countless powerpoint slides but might actually learn something.
good afterNOON, good afterNOON...lol...hes alright a guess, a little nuts, but he basically spoon feeds you the midterm and if u dont study its ur own fault, trust me i know from experience. umm assignments are pretty eaasy to BS. he says u cant just write common sense...yes u can because i have.
This man has to be the most weirdest teacher I ever had..he loves to hear himself talk about his past expericences and tells the wackest jokes..but you gotta appreciate the guy..the class is not all that hard if you do the work
A really easy A...the tests are a lil hard, but he gives lots of extra credit and hes a REALLy easy grader on papers. Pretty funny in class...not very personable, but an easy A!

Okaaay good MORNING good MORNIIIING!
He knows his stuff and he's not so bad if you're willing to do the work. He loves to talk about his life so prepare yourself for countless stories about his adventures with America's Most Wanted.
HE'S A GREAT TEACHER. HE KNOWS EXACTLY WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT BECAUSE HE'S BEEN THERE. HE ASSIGNS A BUNCH OF HOMEWORK BUT NOTHING THAT YOU CAN'T HANDLE. IF YOU NEED HELP WITH SOMETHING HE'S RIGHT THERE FOR YOU. I ACTUALLY LEARNED SOMETHING FROM..CAN'T SAY THAT ABOUT MANY TEACHERS..DEF WOULD TAKE HIM AGAIN
hes annoying but its not a hard class. just go and do the papers and tests and you will do fine. PARTICIPATE. he likes it, though he loves his own voice as well
really nice teacher his exams are not so bad if you pay attention in class and the writing assignments are cake. you get to watch movies too he's nice take him.

Breslin is a ****.
One of the easiest classes at Iona. But I think I would rather have sand poured into my eyes than sit through a class where the professor has about as much personality as a carrot.
He doesn't make eye contact and isn't very approachable, we all just kind of throw our assignments at him and listen to him talk. But it's doable, if you keep up on black board, pay attention and class and show an interest u'll do fine. He's a nice guy I'd take him again plus he's the only one who teaches MCO 300
What is there to say about Jack Breslin that he hasnt already said himself? Dont take him - unless you want to nap for three hours a week. Id never seen anyone spend a half hour on a single powerpoint slide before I had him. And dont cheat, or you'll make him cry himself to sleep at night!
He's not that bad. He has a good understanding of the information hes teaching. His tests arent that hard as long as you review the information and his assignments shouldnt take you that long. As long as you do what he expects of yourself without cheating then you shouldnt have a problem getting a good grade.

This guy is one of the most boring and self-centered people in Iona College. He talks about himself for almost the entire class and he never makes eye contact with anyone...he just stares off into space..he is extremely boring and it sucks that he is the only one teachin this class..the work is not that bad...but he is BOOOOORING...cant say it enuf
Yeah, sucks he's the only one that teaches 300, I agree that he is a dick, makes no eye contact, and isn't friendly at all to approach with questions. The workload isn't bad until all at once he bombards you with tons of stuff. He means well but comes off as a prick and his tests are hard."Just think you only have __ weeks left of me,myself and I"

helpful, but with a bit of attitude. Defintly thinks highly of himself and lives in the past. None-the-less he wants his students to do well and even offers extra credit oppertunities to which most people don't take advantage of.
The best and most intelligent teacher in the communications department, if not the whole school. His level of knowledge about law, communications, journalism and mass media is staggering. On the negative, The man is very odd duck. He's moody and not easily approachable. But he's a great teacher.
Gives alot of busy work assignments..Lectures the whole class and his exams are pretty difficult..if you do all the assignments you'll do fine in the class
Not that bad...very interested in the field...taking him again for media law ethics so hes tolerable.
I have had him for two classes already and I think he is a good man. I like his jokes and his old school information. He wants us to succeed, wake up you morons.
gooood morning goood moooooooooooorning!
Very good
He is a very world savvy man, and we are lucky to have someone with his experience in media to be teaching us the ropes.. work is hard, but very rewarding.

Breslin's awsome..he knows his sh*t, has worked EVERYWHERE. Work isnt as hard as it seems, def. go to class, participate (the only way everything becomes easy) He's cool, makes u laugh but sometimes u think he's out to get you. He's got great teaching methods...hey Breslin, here's that chili pepper rating u said nobody in mass comm has!
he knows what he is talking about and is overall a good teacher. his tests are hard and he gives lots of homework and assignments but nothing too major. at first i didnt like him but then you respect him because he really does know what he is talking about.
HATE HIM. busted my ass for a C+. Got A's in every class but his. thankful I never have to take him for a class again.
I have attended three different schools, had many teachers..some good some terrible....Breslin could possibly the worst ever. You bust your ass and he wont even take the time to learn your name or say hello inside or outside the classroom. talks all about his amazing jubs with crappy tv shows., which no one cares about. im not sure why he teaches..
nice guy n u really learn a lot but i busted my butt studying 4 his tests days b4 the exam n i still didnt do 2 great...fair amount of work n gives a lot of extra credit...not that terrible of a prof. though
Breslin is tough- but so is this course. He does everything he can to help you if you ask.is very interested to see you succeed if you show interest. His lessons can be long, but he is very thorough in his teaching...and tries to make light of a tough subject. Genuinely good teacher with good interest in his class. be prepared to work=A
attendance manditory! learn alot..semi hard tests.thinks he is the best person ever then why are you teaching at iona and not in the business???
Breslin is a professional...his work experience is priceless and he works hard to make class better geared to the students. His tests are hard, but he gives you good review sheets...he is consistent with homeworks...but is a fair grader...so just do it. He rewards you with occasional puppet shows that make you smile...He is a good guy and wants you
OK - Breslin talks too much. Other than that - and his incessant stories - he's a good prof.
Breslin was not that bad. He definitely has his quirks but so does every prof. at Iona. The work in his class was not unreasonable and he is a "good" grader. I have had much worse.
If you are taking Prof. Breslin be prepared for a lot of writing. He gives out a lot of writing assignments, but don't worry they are extremely easy to answer and sometimes even fun to write about. If everybody in the class does their homework you will never see a quiz but make sure that you study for his tests, they are hard. Laugh at his jokes.
Breslin is the reason I am no longer a Mass Com major. He thinks wayyy too much of himself and he really is not helpful at all. he talked down to me when I went to his office hours...and then berated me in class..ugh, what a nightmare
this guy should have been smothered in his crib. as a teacher im sure he's good but his personality makes me want to gag. he is condescending, even when u try and basically picks favorites (or ppl he doesnt like). but seriously dude, stop talking about ur "War" days at AMW, u were probably just getting coffee and blowing john walsh
His class isn't that hard but he does give alot of work. As far as his personality i have never had such animosity geared towards one person. The most unhelpful professor at iona
He's all together a really nice guy. He has a passion for what he is teaching, and you will learn from it. If your looking for an easy A, this isn't the guy to take. He really will work with you if you are looking to be helped. However, he can come off as "mean" if you show your lack of interest..And he absolutely will keep you the full time
Oh what to say about Breslin. Let me start by saying I HATED his class. But I actually learned stuff. It's a pain in the ass class, but all Mass Comm major HAVE to take it so deal with it. He goes on and on about his "war" stories but they don't teach us anything. Just focus on the work- get it done and get it done HIS WAY.
Ok so I took him as an elective put it like this THE WORST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE. Before Breslin I had never failed a class in my life and I am a college Snr. Pretty, much he does nothing but talk about himself and he's arrogant by far the WORST professor I have ever had in my life. I will never advise anyone to take him.
his jokes sucks his class sucks his personality sucks basically he sucks, say hello to him outside of class and see what he doess.. lol he's a bad teacher don't take him, hes not a cool fun teacher i don't know why people like him.
hes great! big fan of this man!
Intelligent professor who knows what he's talking about. I don't recommend as night class b.c he does keep for the full time + it's a lot of material to take in at one time. He does assign a relatively large amount work however with that being said- work is very easy but midterm + final REQUIRE A LOT OF STUDYING
I had him for intro, Ethics & Senior Seminar. I swear this man has Asperger's -very antisocial/no eye contact. Net, net-a jerk but an ok professor. In s.s. he actually did some career coaching with resume building/mock interviews. Some of the most relevant stuff I had in college. PS he totally reads these and I bet the good ratings are self done.
haha okay.. A LOTTTTTTTTTTT of work! Class isn't bad, you just sit there and listen to him and his corny jokes lol. He's not bad, pretty cool guy, deffinitely knows what he's talking about. Just do ALL the work, MUST go on blackboard because he checks the minutes you log in (yea crazy), and youre fine. If you dont like work, dont take the class.
I take this professor for Media Law & Ethics as we speak. One, you have to take him at one time or another. If you pay attention and hand in the work on time you will earn your grade. Dont miss class often. I would reccomend him to people who want to learn but not to people looking to do NO work
hes not bad at all. just do what he asks and you'll do well. he always responds back to emails really quickly which is very convenient
Great teacher knows everything there is to know about the world of mass comm. Worked in the industry uses fun examples and uses alot of movie clips to get his point across. You have to do three things to do well in his class: 1. go to class 2. do the assignments 3. study and ask questions in class
one of the best professors i've ever had. i would recommend his class to anyone. he practically hands you an A on a silver platter, unless you are lazy/ illiterate. provides you with notes and great study guides for the midterm and final. i took a 3 hour EA class and the time flew by, definitely didn't mind staying the full class.
Breslin teaches a really tough class but I think its because the class itself is hard. Basically if you do the work the lowest you'll get is a B, but the work needs to be to Breslin standings. Also, his jokes make you want to get up and leave but otherwise he's a nice guy and Media Law and Ethics is his class.
Breslin is a pretty easy A. It's a lot of work but not hard work. If you pay attention&hand in everything on time, its an easy class. He is a bit arrogant but he is so smart& knows so much about Mass Comm. His tests are multiple choice&2 short essays. He gives the some of the questions in review; the tests are pretty easy if you study.
I had this prof for media law and ethics, he has the worst jokes - they are NOT funny, he needs to watch an episode of curb or something and catch up with his students...hard work, he wants his brief assgmts longer than ones I do in my law classes!! He needs to be more understanding and get a personality. Maybe then I'd like his class.
He is honestly not that bad. He does give a lot of assignments, but not quizzes or tests. Midterm and final you really need to study for though. A lot of memorization.
he's a pretty cool guy, but his jokes are kind of corny. I took him for a winter intersession media law and ethics class and it was A LOT of work.. way more than I expected. if you do the work and pay attention, you'll get an A
Dr. Breslin took a dry subject and made it interesting and entertaining. Five years later, i stll refer to the book and his notes on current media law issues. Jokes do stink but a great guy, just be ready to work!
Anyone who has anything bad to say about this guy probably did not do well in his course. The only kind of person who will not do well in his class is a person that is not ready for college.Boring subjects made interesting, and the work can be as hard/easy/fulfilling as you make it.Just remember, there are NO TRICKS;course is black and white, for real
took breslin twice now and I have his media law & ethics class. The course is alot of work but , if you show that you care he will most definantly notice. The only part of his class that is really hard is his tests. I wish we had a review for them since they are so hard it would make the class a bit easier.Overall hes really nice and loves his
Assignments are clear and to the point. If you follow the directions you will get a perfect score on your papers. His tests aren't simple, just put in the effort to study and go over the concepts he spoke about in class you will do fine. If you need help or missed class he will make time for you to help and make sure you are caught up. Good guy.
he tries to hard to make you laugh. if he would stop making fun of himself people would actually laugh.. the class sucks because there's always so much work, but it is doable
Gives a LOT of assignments/papers. I don't think a week ever went by that we didn't have a paper due. A bit overwhelming but they aren't THAT bad to do, just time consuming. His tests are unbearably difficult and unfortunately if you do not understand every single concept he goes over your grade will suffer a lot. Mad corny & repeats his "jokes"10X
Pretty funny professor, not sure what some of these students are thinking. He doesn't cater to the self entitled. He treats the class like it were a job. Do your work and study and you'll do just fine. He uses personal experience (he knows his stuff) and mixes it with material we're learning so the content is pretty clear. Gives a lot of EC.
It is true that he talks about America's Most Wanted a lot and that he makes a lot of weird jokes. But he is probably the best professor you can have for this class. He has a ton of experience in this field and explains everything in detail. I was always interested in every class. It is a lot of work but it is worth it.
It is true that he talks about America's Most Wanted a lot and makes some weird jokes. But He is probably the best professor to take. He has a lot of experience in this field and truly wants all of his students to do well. His class is always interesting. It is a lot of work but if you're passionate about this field, it's worth it.
He compared Mcdonalds to the Military saying the jobs were the same. HOW IN ANY WAY IS THAT THE SAME?? This comment is extremely offensive to our military that risk their lives everyday so that all of us can have our freedom. For a class about ethics, he makes pretty unethical statements. self-centered hypocrite.
literally the WORST teacher you will ever take. i am not exaggerating he will ruin your life
Tough class. When he gives extra credit take it you'll need it. He is an extremely fair guy and knows his stuff. Don't get on his bad side and put in your 100% and you will pass. He is very comical and like =s to toot his own horn.
The problem with Breslin is that he refuses to take any criticism of his teaching seriously. He may know his stuff, but the dude does not care about making the material interesting or relatable. He spends entire classes talking at you & answers his own questions and then wonders why people use their cellphones. Patronizing & condescending.
You can be liable for libel and PR guys, if you don't want to see it, don't say it. ALL WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS MUST BE SUMBITTED TO PASS THE COURSE, MERE SUBMISSION, HOWEVER, WILL GURANTEE YOU A PASSING GRADE... DO THE HW OR YOU'LL GET A LITTLE QUIZZY
I have a love/hate relationship with this professor. His classes were always very interesting and he had a lot of fun stories to tell during his lectures, but he was a harsh grader, and his exams were super difficult. He also made us purchase his textbook which was incomplete and identical to his powerpoint slides anyway. *facepalm*
He is a nice person and a funny guy, don't get me wrong. But I bombed. I worked my ass off and still did not do well. I asked him for help, and I didn't get it. I put in so much effort and I just went in circles.
Professor Breslin is excellent. I take a media ethics class online which is tough to teach and he does a great job. Not a tough grader at all, but I can see how students that are low in motivation will not like him. He takes his teaching seriously and you have to put in the work to pass his class. Great experience in his class.
Had to take the night class and seriously wanted to jump off a building every time I went. I thought the material was interesting but he just didn't help you learn it in any way. Sucks though because he is the only on who teaches the class...
Professor Breslin is not a favorite among the students, and he knows it, but he does a good job with this course. Lots of material is covered so you best not miss a class. TAKE THE NIGHT CLASS!!!! You will not want to meet with Professor B more than once a week. Make sure to read the textbook, powerpoints, and DO EXTRA CREDIT!! You have to try!
I'm in his 2:00 o'clock Mon & Wed class. Professor Breslin is a guy with an interesting sense of humor who will never put you to sleep in class. Does he say some goofy things? Yes. But for everything he says he does put some smirks on peoples faces which keep them focused on him. He is very knowledgeable and defiantly knows his stuff.
Good guy.
He might be a tough teacher but he really wants his students to learn and do well. Very clear with all the homework assignments. Gives at least 20 points of extra credit which is very helpful!
This professor is very helpful and wants his students to pass. Apart from the weekly DBs, there are a few research papers due throughout the semester. Keeping up with the weekly readings and papers can get a bit overwhelming but once you reach out to the professor, he is more than willing to grant reasonable extensions to complete papers.
Breslin is a great professor. He may come off a little harsh but he genuinely cares about his students doing well. You do need to study for his exams in order to do well (which shouldn't be that surprising this is college...) and he usually givrs opportunities for extra credit. I graduated last May and he was my most memorable professor!
Professor Breslin Knows his material, however, he wants the homework done a specific way and if it is not done a specific way, you will get a lot of points taken off, and if you get the chance to get extra credit, do so because it will save you. Readings are long so be prepared to read.
Breslin is a little nutty, but he isn't bad. Make sure you do all the assignments (2 pages means 2 pages). Take all the extra credit opportunites.
If you are struggling in his class, talk to him. He is actually very helpful and considerate.
He is one of my favorite professors this semester. Literally all you need to do is be respectful and do tour work, aka be a student. Literally the easiest A, you have to try harder to fail the class than to pass it. His lectures are not boring. He is such a nice person and professor. Reflection paper for credit is required, 2 pages only.
His exams are a solid 15 pages so when he says study, he means study and you still might fail. He is not a bad person but not a great teacher. He moves quick through the slides, there isnt room for discussion, and you have a lot homework and assignments. Your grade heavily relies on the exams. Take the class if you have to not cause you want to.
One of the best professors at Iona. Breslin is funny, and understanding and is very passionate about his field and wants everyone to pass the course. He gives 3 exams, and a few homework assignments and 3 writing assignments. 2 pages means exactly 2 pages. Also, there's lots of extra credit to get, and a discussion board once a week.
Breslin is very educated in the field! He gives reasonable homework and reading the textbook is necessary to do well on tests. He is easy to email and gives a lot of extra credit. Great professor!
Professor Breslin is such a nice professor, and really wants everyone to pass his class. The keys to passing his class are studying, participating and staying on top of your work. He gives so many extra credit opportunities and may seem tedious when it comes to homework and discussion boards. But just don't fall behind by not showing up.
I would advise staying away from this class even as an elective. Unnecessary busy work and did not learn a thing. This class took up the majority of my homework this semester. Extremely condescending and self-absorbed. Has weird mood swings mid-class.
Breslin is ridiculous. I swear this guy thinks his class is the only class that matters. Gives a crazy amount of work for an introductory class. Tests, projects, papers every week, discussion board problems. He would make weird jokes about himself and the class would sit there in silence. Being in his class was just awkward. Don't take him.
Prof. Breslin wasn't a bad professor I can say. He is heavy on "He wants everyone to pass". Honestly just do the homework assignments and you can pass easily with a c, even if you do bad on his test because he's not a hard grader. He really just a whacky character.
Breslin was so rude during class, and would mock students. He assigns so many essays every week. He's a very easy grader but is strict on attendance and having cameras turned on during Zoom classes. Sometimes he would make students present their homework assignment, and proceed to interrogate you to make sure you understood the assignment.
So many essays, always at least 2 pages. Hes charming and funny at times but there is so many essays I can barely keep track. He talks a lot but he tries to relate it to the lesson. I wouldnt take him again only because of the amount of work he gives out. Extremely easy grader though.
Stay away from this class, he literally gives like 2 papers every week. Its only 2 pages each but it accumulates when you have other classes to take. He's kind and understanding so that's a good thing. Since we're in covid times, you should know that you HAVE to keep your camera's on. Honestly its easy to pass but its a lot of work. Good luck.
Professor Breslin is very kind and knowledgeable. He genuinely wants to see his students perform well in his class so he always offers advice, help, extra credit, and opportunities to fix your grade on assignments, especially if you show effort. However, if you cannot handle a heavy workload on a weekly basis, you will definitely fall behind.
He loves to hear himself talk, while the subject matter of the class is interesting he never gives the chance for students to participate. He never stops and asks questions or opens a discussion in class. Super tough grader so if his assignments say two pages or 500 words, do three pages and 700 words. your gonna have to take this class, it'll suck
I have taken two classes with him at CUNY SPS. His class mostly consists of weekly db posts and 3 projects. This allows for us to have room to breathe especially if taking other classes. He loves group projects ( which I hate) but as long as you have a good group of students you should be fine. He is a little unorganized but overall an easy grader.
He's a good professor, teach you all you need to know, but he doesn't interact well with students, he has zero understanding of how his students mind's work. If he could be a lot nicer and less judgemental he would easily be my favorite professor.
He means well and cares for the students but he does it in a manner that makes you question how. His heart is in the right place but his head isn't. If you get the work done and do the discussion board you will pass with flying colors. But he is extremely head strong so don't try talking to him on a bad day.
he takes late work as long as it's not a group project. He doesn't connect well with students and very strict about being on phones/laptops
Professor Breslin's class is a solid choice - just do the work and engage with the lessons. Attendance is mandatory, but he's understanding. Rely on resources like the free textbook and unstuck ai to make it an easy A.
