I had him for 3 classes, not hard if you pay attention. He is the reason why I ended up with an Economics degree. Inspiring teacher!
He makes you think outside the box.Very hard though. Better learn to love to read and apply everything you read because it could show up on the test. Test are random and the questions are hard. He love to see students cry so be prepared. He doesnt tell u when test r . record class becuz he talks fast.
Great Teacher! Love his class but hate his grading scale. His class is very hard will have to do alot of reading. his class is not easy at all,but u love going to class
DO NOT TAKE HIS ONLINE CLASSS!!! He is harder online than he is in a classroom. He is a really good teacher but if this is the only class you're planning on taking then you better study every night.
okayy so Prof. Chambless is awesome!! you will learn so much in this class! but if your even the slightest bit lazy then this class isn't for you, but the money is worth it to hear him talk! to atleast get a good grade in this class you have to do the extra credit, his practice tests, and READ ALOT! but seriously it's worth it! he's so inspiring!
Jack..... I learned more than I ever have in any class. Makes you actually think about economics instead of just fallowing the bias media we see every day. Brilliant man, funny and always right. TAKE HIM
he's brilliant and funny... easily the best professor ive ever had! his class is far from easy but you learn so much! plus he's pretty hot for an old guy.
ARe you interested in leaving college with a 4.0 GPA or an education. If you want to really learn something about economics, take this class. Reading and taking notes are mandatory to get a good grade. There are only 3 tests and they all count equally. Critical thinking is necessary to evaluate and respond to the given cirriculum. Great Class!
Terrible professor. I got a B in the class so I am not just out to get this guy for a bad grade. I just took whatever I thought was right and wrote the complete opposite a B in the class. He pays little to no attention to his class and is no help at all. Don't take his class is you believe even a little bt in government because he does not.
If you just want an easy A then don't take this. You have to actually go to class and read the textbook. But he's a great teacher and you learn a lot about economics. I have gained a lot more knowledge because of this class. The only reason I got a bad grade is because I slacked but it's easy if you read the material.
Great Professor really knows what hes talking about but if you want an easy A this is not the class hes always there to help and having a friend in class helped me alot as well.. hes very interesting to listen to and very sarcastic but it makes the class interesting..
Really interesting class!
He is awesome, he opened my mind into different thoughts not only in government but my life in general. I could say he is the only professor so far that has thought me so many things that nobody has before. He is definitely not easy, good notes and preparation for the test is require. But is worth it.
Do not take online. Do not take if you belive in our government. Actully dont take at all take someone else!
Chambless is an amazing teacher. It is a HARD class!! I'm a good student and I got a C, but you have to take time to read and prepare for the tests. 3 tests is all your grade rides on. He's funny, incredibly intelligent, interesting lectures, and sarcastic and blunt. Awesome class- I'd take him again!
LOVED THE CLASS!!!! Chambless is a wonderful guy, I always looked forward to the class. Its definitely hard BUT worth it, im just happy I got a "b"..Proudest B ever
ONE OF THE BEST PROFESSORS IVE EVER HAD. IT'S NOT A HARD CLASS IF YOU PAY ATTENTION TO THE CLASS, AND HE IS EASY TO FOLLOW. I GOT AN A IN HIS CLASS! TAKE HIM!!
the class is hard but u will learn a lot. Chambless is a great professor. onely 3 tests.
He is one of the best proffesors in the campus in terms of teaching. I will reoment his class if you realy want to learn about liberty. The class is a little hard but you really are going to learn a lot in his class
His class is interesting but this class is hard! Even though you only have to take 3 test you still need to study a lot. Got a D and i am a straight A student.
I have taken Jack Chambless for Micro and Macroeconomics. His lectures are out of this world, and will want you coming back to the next class. His test are hard (there are only 3) but if you read and retain what you read you got it. He allows you to get 20 EXTRA CREDIT POINTS. That can take you from an 80%-100%!!!! TAKE THIS CLASS you will love it.
This class is very interesting. If you want to get an easy A i dont recommend you take this class. You have to read almost every chapter in the textbook and although attendance isn't mandatory it is very important to show up everyday. His test (only 3 of them) are difficult and some of his questions come from his lectures. I highly recommend him.
Very hard class..started out with 60+ people and now the class is down to 20 students. you only take 3 tests durring the whole class and your grade will be just those 3 tests. don't take this class unless you are very smart or love to study.
I had him for both macro & micro online, he is helpful, just ask. There is a lot of reading involved and videos to watch. Going in this wasn't my fav. topic, but he made it interesting. Class is based on 3 things, so don't take any of it lightly. His class isn't an easy A but he is an awesome professor.
great prof.... extremely hard class to pass though.. only 3 tests.. i learned alot with him.. just not alot to pass
He's cute, kind of like a teletubbie :) But his class isn't that cute. You will have to read a lot of material and practice the methods shown in his class. If you don't work hard, it will show in your tests because BS isn't tolerated. I had a few all nighters taking his class but it was worth it! Probably the most important class you'll ever take.
Professor Chambless is a genius, bottom line. The only way a person can't pass his class is if they forget how to read somewhere along the line. He can help a person really understand how economics works. The best part about his teachings, in my opinion, is that the material is unbiased.
Awesome class, took prof. chambless for macro in 05 and just took him again last semester. Its college so reading, studying, and self researcher is mandatory. Not a lot of work but understanding is key; this class will definitely open up your mind and prepare you for the real world.
Chambless is awesome, the best economist ever. He really wakes you up for the reality, he teaches common sense, I recommend him if you don't work,if you aren't lazy,if you aren't taking many classes,if you want an easy A forget about him,you will end up dropping the class...last semester more than 70% of the class dropped...lot of sarcasm,I loved it
This guy is a joke. Not lenient at all. He is extremely arrogant, so much so that he wrote his own book and uses it for the class with irrelevant info in it. He states in syllabus that only 72% of his students pass. When does the school step in and ruin this man? A midterm, project, and final. Only 3 assignments?! Do poorly on one and fail! AVOID!
Worst teacher ever. Test are very complex and I think stupid. He really needs to change his approach when it comes to teaching. I wouldn't take him again, even if he was the last professor at VCC.
Avoid like the plague! Chambless wrote the text for the class and assumes you should know it as well as the man who wrote it. Only 3 grades for the whole class, a mid-term, final and a project. I made four A's and one B two semesters ago and failed this class last semester. WORST CLASS EVER!!!
It's a hard class but totally worth taking if you want to learn. He knows what he is talking about because he's an economist first and a teacher after. I would take him again if I could but he only teaches Macro and Micro. If you study, and use old tests to study with you will pass. The book is a huge help too because he wrote so it.
If you have any desire to learn take Chambless, he is by the best economics professor you are going to have at the community college level. I had him for micro and macro and am about to graduate from Florida State. He made economics so clear from the beginning that I have gotten A's in all my economics classes at FSU! GREAT PROFESSOR
Professor Chambless is amazing. He makes economics very clear and understandable. His class is not easy by any stretch of the imagination, but I have learned more from his class so far than any of my classes throughout high school and college. I want to be him when I grow up! He's AWESOME!!!
Prof. Chambless is amazing. He really brings it down to our level of understanding. The class is only hard if you don't come to class and don't participate. He gives you every chance to pass. The work that is required is told to you upfront. And, he is so funny.
He's great!
hes a really good teacher and really wants you to learn. and hes quite entertaining. but the way his class is set up your doomed to fail. ur only grades all semester are 3 tests so and theyre pretty hard. his withdrawl rate and failure rate is through the roof and hell tell u that come first day of class.
hes a really good teacher and really wants you to learn. and hes quite entertaining. but the way his class is set up your doomed to fail. ur only grades all semester are 3 tests so and theyre pretty hard. his withdrawl rate and failure rate is through the roof and hell tell u that come first day of class.
I was reading "An inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nation" by Adam Smith and immediately thought about Chambless. My advice to anyone considering him is: study diligently, take responsibility but most importantly be objective! He is extremely biased but he makes the subject interesting (continued in ECO2023)
(from ECO2013)Thanks to his controversial strategy I became interested in Economics, and now I am about to graduate with an Economics degree.Question the "logic" he claims is common sense. Take the class, but remember to stay objective, & that externalities do exist. But DO support his bias on every exam. He won't indoctrinate you ifYOU don't let hi
Mr. Chambless is an awesome professor! His teaching style is great and he makes you think. Though, you must be warned, his class is not easy at all. You must read his textbook and pay attention in class. if you don't read, then your test grade will be low
Never met this professor in real life because I'm taking another economics professor, however, Chambless' textbook is required for the course. I felt inclined to say that just from reading his textbook he seems very right-winged, and after reading some comments some also agree. Doesn't seem very objective, and pushes his ideology. Keep an open mind
Signed up to take Micro-Economics, not Micro-Economics through the eyes of a Libertarian. He is EXTREMELY biased. I will not lie Professor Chambless is a really smart person that knows his material in and out.
A professor that actually tests at a college level. He makes the subject extremely interesting no matter what your major. He is very biased, but towards the right reasoning. Great person overall and very kind.
This class is tough. Make sure to stay on top of reading. Ask questions. His exams are multiple choice/short answer, sometimes based on outside work that was not discussed in class. Study hard, and do the practice tests he provides in the library. They're a HUGE help, and he will discuss with you outside of class. Good Luck!
Macroeconomics has never been more entertaining, more challenging, or more educational. Prof Chambless is fantastic. He's so good I'm tempted to take Micro with him as an elective. If you seriously STUDY the book & old tests (hard), you can pass. He is helpful & DOES keep an open mind. Intelligent man, great class, worth the money. Guarantee.
Professor Chambless is a great lecturer. You must study and read the book to pass the class though. Do not take this class if you're looking for an easy grade. The teacher is a libertarian, so if your political outlook is to the left, you'll likely find him offensive. If you're looking for a challenging class that you'll learn a lot, take Chambless
Best prof at Valencia , changed my life. True genius
Best teacher I've had at Valencia. Although his class is challenging, he is very helpful and makes himself very available to help you. All of his past exams are available in the library for you to copy and practice with. Read the book sections a few times each, study the old tests, and make use of his website and you'll do fine.
An amazing professor. I took him a few years ago now, and can honestly say no matter where you go in life the lessons from this class will stay with you. He teaches with competency and straightforwardness. His lectures are a great deal of fun and thought provoking.
Great professor, currently taking him for micro. The class is extremely hard, only 3 exams the whole semester. So read the book twice and study his old test (the library will provide them).
Intimidating, but great professor! He makes the subject clear and extremely interesting. It is not an easy class; do not expect to get a good grade without doing some serious studying. If you?re looking for a class where you will actually learn something useful and like to be challenged then take this professor. I highly recommend him to those wh
The BEST professor I've ever had. I was actually attending another school, and entered Valencia as a transient student just to take his class. His class is a challenge, but if you want to learn he is definitely the professor to take. The book is imperative to pass his class, but it's interesting. I still have mine.
Proffessor Chambless proves that being heartess is indeed the way to BETTER this economy. The absolute BEST class you'll ever take in your life.
Professor Chambless is a fantastic teacher. His lectures are the most entertaining you will hear and yet packed with facts and undeniable reasoning. his class is very hard but you will learn more in his class than in any other class i would recomend him to anybody. Im not a huge fan of taking "challenging" classes but this one was by far worth it
So full of himself and HIS ideas. He wrote the text and it's full of his opinions on what is wrong with the government, not a good foundation of the basic ideas of economics AT ALL! AVOID! I dropped the class and it was the BEST thing I ever did for myself. He says if you have issues to email him, that didn't get me anywhere! Again, AVOID HIM!!!!!
Chambless is probably the best teacher at VCC West. He's got a future in stand-up comedy if he wants. He turned economics 180 degrees around in my world. He wrote his own text, so if you read it, you'll pass. He's a devout Libertarian, so if you're liberal, check your values at the door for risk of being undressed in a debate with him. He knows ECO
I highly recommend this professor if you actually want to learn something. He can be tough, however he is extremely helpful and will meet with you and help point you in the right direction. Class attendance is optional. I do recommend you attend class unless other wise instructed by him. I think this is the one class that should be mandatory in ord
I took his 6 week online course and the only way you will pass is if you have a lot of time in the world to read the chapters. There were no hw assignments. The grade consist of 2 test and a WSJ progect. The first test included 8 chapters, and book called the LAW and a large package of articles
I thought it would be a boring subject, but he made it come alive. He is not easy, but you will learn if you take his class. It has been 8 years since I took his course at Valencia, and I still use the knowledge I learned there. Awesome, but not for the closed-minded.
Great teacher! The class is hard but it is very informative. Put in the work, ask questions and you should d o fine.
This by far the best proffesor I have ever taken! I wish he would teach more classes, I love him! Everything he has taught me; I still remember. His class is hard but if you read his book and pay attention in class you should def. pass. Again I love him, best prof ever!
HE'S PRETTY TOUGH BUT ACTUALLY VERY HELPFULL. THIS CLASS WAS A REAL CHALENGE. I CONSIDERED THE SUBJECT REALLY BORING BUT HE MADE IT VERY INTERESTING.
Do not take Chambless' class if you're either lazy, or not great at economics. It is a difficult class. Although Chambless is a great professor and makes his lectures as exciting as possible. The textbook was written by him, so the reading is also very exciting, and factual. I strongly recommend him to anybody who wants a serious economics course.
I don't recomend professor chambless. his tests so ridiculously hard and had nothing to do with what we discissed in class.
by far the BEST class I have ever taken. Professor Chambless will challenge your views and open your mind to the truth. His lectures are extremely interesting and I actually enjoyed coming to class!I don't know why people are saying his tests are crazy..If you listen in class, take good notes, and read the book you should be totally fine! TAKE HIM.
The best professor I have ever had. Extremely intelligent, he knows the subject from A to Z. He changed my mind and made me a stronger person. Tests are hard, but if you study, you will definitely pass! He respects people who work hard, so, if you are lazy, do not try. But if you want to be successful, take his classes. Thank you, Pr. Chambless!
ONLINE CLASS required a lot of reading (and I mean a lot). If you dont have time to read and analyse this is not the class for you. I'm a procrastinator but still got and A. He will respond to your messages quickly. His blog has videos to assist. On our first test 70% of the students failed. I learned a lot!
Absolutely the best! Students may dislike him because of his requiring them to THINK! He's not the type of professor you'd expect to find at a Community college. He's more of a University professor. Our class dropped from 60 plus to maybe 20 students. But like in life, only the best survive. 5 stars. If you want to LEARN SOMETHING, take his class!
Professor Chambless will never leave you confused about what he demands of you. I took him online for Micro and had much respect for the subject from the beginning.I had read all chapters (1-8) twice two weeks before mid term, so I only needed to read "The Law" and the appendix. Take videos serious! Learned a lot in this high quality course.
He is an exemplary teacher; he's requiring but fair and expects an investment from each student. It's been worth the blood, sweat, and tears--the payoff from learning in his class has been huge. My favorite instructor by far.
He's a great teacher. But the exam are very difficult and doesn't give homeworks so you must read.
The first day in class he showed us a video about the occupy protesters. I had seen this video previously and loved it. I was cheesing the whole time because I knee this would be the best class I've ever had. Study hard and you should do well. You aren't entitled to an A. One must put forth effort. Live free or die hard my friends.
If you want to learn and use your brain, then Chambless is for you. I took three of his courses and took away a tremendous understanding of economics and the fundamental principles of good government.
Coming into the class, I thought it would be extremely difficult. It really isn't too bad; as long as you read the texbook thoroughly and take notes, as well as the other readings and watch all the videos, you'll be fine. It's not an easy class, you have to work for your grade. But he wants you to learn, he's not a bad professor at all.
if you want to take this class first you need to know that is not an easy A class you need to work hard and read everything he ask you to read otherwise you wont pass but he will help you if your don't understand the material and his lectures are not only interesting but also very entreating.
He is probably one of the best professors I've ever had. Really opened my mind to this world and it was all because of his passion and professionalism the radiates throughout his lectures. No homework cushion. Just tests, 3 at that. Read, read, read. Great class, great prof. Highly recommended.
The best professor I've had yet. Changed my life. Probably one of the hardest classes I've taken as well. Enjoy.
Mr Chambless is one of the best professors on the face of planet earth. He has changed my life. I respect him greatly and strongly advise that anyone who gets the chance take his class! The exams are sort of difficult but well worth it. It isn't about the grade you get in this class, it is about how much you walk away with. My life is changed!
Chambless has a big passion for ECO, which makes his class so interesting. However, there is no room for procrastination in his class! It may not seem like it, but this class requires a LOT of time. Reading the text book and taking notes is vital to your grade. There are only 3 tests. All of them take a lot of preparation because they are difficult
Prof. Chambless is one of the best teacher I've had and will have (fact) It is true, his lectures are life changing. He knows his subject and is ALWAYS very WELL prepared. Tests are difficult, it's COLLEGE not high school. No hw, assignments, group work (thank god) however, read the chapters thorough. MY LIFE AND VIEW is change (for t better) THX Prof
This was my very first online course ever. That said, thank GOD his textbook that he wrote was an actual page turner! Online course consists of 3 grades and 1 extra credit research paper. Read the chapters and watch his lectures (which are interesting) and you'll do fine. Start papers early and read later so you don't forget prior to tests (2).
The hardest teacher I have ever had but the best teacher I have ever had. If you are looking for an easy A don't take the class, if you are looking to learn take it. You HAVE to read A LOT.
I sum this professor up in one word, 'avoid'. I see no relevance in his class or reading his book. I am not interested in what he does with his personal time or his beliefs. please teach me economics.
Prof. Chambless online class was very difficult. It was not very easy when it came to the tests. I struggled the first half and then did much better the second half. I would not recommend the online class. Just 2 tests and a research paper. Book and recorded lectures only way to learn. You need to put in a lot of time.
What you will learn is what I call "ChambleNOMICS". Hes a hardcore libertarian and teaches it as "economics" you will get a libertarian biased perspective from all his teachings. He's full of himself and avoided the intellectual questions I had. I had put libertarian based responses to receive an A. The David Koch would be proud of Chambles.
Best professor in Valencia, his class is an eye opener. Please take him, i honestly think we would be living in such a better place if the whole country had to take his class.
May be controversial in his methods; however, there is a strong need for a different point of view from the usual left/liberal political viewpoint that most teachers have. You will get it here. Lots of reading and critical thinking. NOT an easy class, or easy "A" but if you are young and want to hear THE TRUTH, take this class. Loved it!
Your grade in this class is basically 3 exams, so if you're a nervous test taker like me, this class is NOT for you. It's also very independent in terms that he expects you to know the material by simply reading and taking consistent notes. He's a little unbearable but he's a good teacher. Difficult course, however.
Definitely a challenging course, this coming from someone who destroys curves in math class. Alas, this is not a math class. Really an intelligent prof. Wish I had not taken his class online though--only three grades for the entire semester! Be warned, if you are not self-motivated do not bother. If you are, be prepared for the TRUTH!!
This guy I absolutely no joke, you will learn a lot in his class but passing the class will be very hard. Be advised.
My first "B". Had a 4.0 and this class changed that. Or should I say, I changed that by blowing the final. Had an A going into it. Smartest Professor I've had. You do as well as you try. Not an easy "A" but the things you learn are life changing. Highly recommend taking this professor for this class!! Taking Micro next semester from him.
This class requires self motivation. Class does not have weekly assignments or test. You have two test and one 20-25 page project. There are no safety nets. The only thing you have is his book and online lectures. Good Luck.
Take If: you love the subject; you like a professor that's funny (sometimes sarcastic); you are self motivated; you want to learn something; you want your money's worth, etc. Do Not Take Him If: None of the above (or similar) describes you.
Greatest professor I have ever had. Highly recommended. Teaches you beyond school and life lessons. If you can handle an old school real education experience sign up. The teachings don't stop after class you'll remember it for the rest of your life. I can vouch for it.
Sort of irritated with those that give a rating and then come back a year later to give the same rating for the professor. If you took him twice and are finding that the upper level work you are doing is too complicated for you, maybe you need to go back and take him again instead of being rude. He makes you do math. Where were you?
He really is an eye opener. The tests are extremely difficult and he knows it - he spent most of the first day of class lecturing on how large a percentage of his class drops out or fails. He uses a textbook that he wrote himself so everything you hear/read in the class is from him, which helps get into his mindset a bit.
This is one of the best classes you will ever take. Highly educational and eye-opening. His lectures are informative and entertaining to boot, and his textbook is an actual page-turner. Take this class if you're up for the challenge and you want to learn something.
This is my second class with Professor Chambless and I ended up fundamentally changed because of his teachings. I really hate the people that would discourage someone else from taking this Professor because they couldn't handle the responsibilities of college. He's the best Prof. I had after 68 units. If you're not scared to work, take him.
Professor Chambless is hands down the best professor I ever had. He created an interest in economics for me as well as U.S. History and the constitution.
Chambless is by far the BEST professor Valencia has or will ever have. I have thoroughly enjoyed his classes and can vouch for a fact they're challenging to your intellect. It gives you a new perspective of the society and everything around you. I'd HIGHLY recommend him. Be prepared to work hard, you literally earn your grade.
Mr. Chambless is one of the greatest professors Valencia has! But be careful, his class isn't easy. You only have 3 tests for the whole semester and they are tough! It's worth it though because you actually learn you don't just take the tests to pass the class, you take them to test your knowledge. He's so funny and pretty hot! I def recommend him!
A fantastic class and a fantastic professor! I've taken both Macro and Micro with him, and I've enjoyed every minute. Chambless has a great sense of humor, and his lectures are so informative, funny, and clear. He's a champion for liberty and such an inspiration to me. Not an easy class, but it will change your life. It certainly changed mine.
Chambless changed my life. Its a really tough class, but I now apply economics to everything. Chambless breaks down concepts into easier to understand topics and mixes in current events and history to give you a full understanding of economics as a whole. If you pay attention, you'll take away a lot from this course. Your grade is based on 3 tests.
I would recommend that anyone and everyone take his class just because his message is profound and his teaching incredible. He teaches people to see the world and markets in a new light. I left with many practical take-aways. However, if you want to pass his class, be sure to readstudy. He gives hard tests and apologizes for nothing. Not for wimps
He is very great at lecturing to the point I considered becoming an economist. The textbook used is what he wrote himself. Only three tests determine your grade - no homework assignments except reading A LOT. You can look at old tests to help with studying on your tests. Overall, he's a strict professor.
One of the best professors I've ever had. He will change your life in the short span of the semester. I recommend you take him in person to soak in everything. The tests are very difficult, no faking the material. Just make sure you go over old tests in library and clearly understand material. If you learn his material, it'll change your life
Tests are not as hard as he makes them out to be as long as you read the text book.
Absolute brilliant man! I took his class because of these reviews and was not disappointed. He really does change your life and opens your eyes. Only grades are his exams but if you read the book and study the old exams in the library you'll be fine. He is very passionate about his field and he makes it contagious.
I had a love-hate relationship with this class. It's an extremely tough class, but the Professor is a bit overdramatic about how hard it is. You definitely need to put a lot of effort in to pass, and even more to ace the class. Professor is very snarky and cynical but even still is extremely smart. Recommend if you're very hard working and invested
Took Chambless for Micro in Spring 2015. I found his teaching and lecture style very engaged. I thrives on having his views challenged, so if you think differently your views won't affect your grade. To use office hours your need to email and make an appointment, otherwise he won't have time. Read everything. He will let you audio record his class.
Took in Fall 2015. Cool guy, great lectures, they are always very engaging. You NEED to read the text, which he wrote himself, so it's essential to read. The textbook is pretty good as well, very clear and interesting like the prof. Exams are easy IF you read and study hard, read previous exams, watch his videos. Otherwise you'll struggle a lot.
Great professor. He teaches you what you need to know without pushing his opinion on you. He tells you like it is based of fact. Lectures were always enjoyable, but your grade is based on 3 tests so you NEED to read the book to pass. If you want to actually learn something and apply it to life, TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.
Awesome professor, he's really passionate. His personality is definitely not for everyone but I enjoyed it. A LOT of reading, it is his textbook and it's actually a really good book. Tests are relatively difficult, a lot of logical reasoning rather than objective thinking. Only 3 tests, you earn your grade.
He's a great professor, but very difficult. If you are looking for an easy A, it won't be with him. A LOT of reading is involved, and you must review the study guides and videos. Type his name to google. He has a website. Everything you'd need to know about his class is there. 3 tests make up your grade and you can record his lectures. Beware.
Fantastic professor, but not easy. Took both Micro and Macro, one of the best experiences I've had.
This guy makes you earn your grade. I had to read 300+ pages of his book, and go over all of his previous tests he has archived in the library. He is a great lecturer and can really change your leanings on subjects. He tries to intimidate you on the first day by telling you how many people withdraw, get C's and B's in his class, don't buy into it.
Not an easy professor by way of testing but he is an amazing professor. You must read his book, go over the old test in the library and you will be fine. This class is exactly what it is, a college level class. Put in the work and you will get the grade. Didn't do well on the 1st test and still managed to pass the class with a B. Taking again.
Very good teacher of Economics but the way his class is set up works against the student. Does not give first grade back until over half way through the semester.
He truly cares about your success. There is no reason you shouldn't be able to pass his class if you're a serious student. Few professors give you as clear and concise directions as he. He has good communication, tutors all, has opportunities to review old tests and many avenues for extra credit. You will learn life and Econ skills in this class.
If you want to learn about business/economics, then this is the professor to take. Everything you need to know for the course is on his website/syllabus. There is required reading. Don't leave it for last minute. If you are taking this course online then you must be an active reader. He supplements the reading with his youtube channel. Very helpful
Some teachers forget they did not give online students the same info as in person and the tests end up screwing online students. No so with Chambless. His tests are well designed and deliberate. He is challenging but not impossible. Fully participate in discussions, read all articles and read the book twice and you'll get an A. You really learn.
Prof. Chambless is the best professor I have ever had. His lectures are amazing and the insight he provides regarding economics is so significant. Read the book and do the chapter reviews and practice tests and you will do good. He is kind of intimidating during class, but during office hours he is very nice. I would highly recommend
Keep looking.
This is not the professor to take if you are looking to skate by. He will make you work. He will make you attend. But most importantly, he will make THINK. Real world applications. Best class I have ever taken. I am writing this 10 years after and his teachings have influenced me more than any others I have received. Be prepared to work for it tho
If you strongly disagree with the liberterian philosophy, this course would probably not be for you. If you do agree, this course would affirm all your beliefs. However, the point of college is to promote critical thinking, so enter this course full of skepticism, and constantly cross reference everything to obtain your own personal conclusions.
Prof. Chambless is a great economics teacher! If you are looking for an easy class this is not the one. There is a lot of reading but the lectures are interesting and he uses real-world examples and statistics that give solid evidence to back his points up. There are no quizzes or assignments but there are 3 tests in TOTAL for the whole semester.
Won't take him again. Better taking the same class at another campus with someone else with less stress, and still getting an A
Not an easy A at all. This was by far the toughest college class I have taken, yet also my favorite. I took Micro and Macro with Chambless and would love to take more classes from him simply because of the lectures. Read EVERYTHING he says to read or the test will be very difficult. Use his test copies in the library, best thing to study!
Be willing to work hard and read the book! Prof. is extremely blunt but backs up every argument he brings forward with evidence. He invites you to disagree so long as you can argue your point effectively. The tests are challenging but are logical reasoning mostly. FULLY EXPLAIN on the written response sections, he is a harsh grader. 18/20 is solid.
At the beginning of class he told us that in order to get an A you would have to read the book and watch the video, that is so true. The tests are essay questions and are the only graded assignments. He wrote the textbook. Econ classes are usually boring but his class gave me a love for free market capitalism and economics. Really great guy.
His class is difficult A LOT of reading and he only gives you three test throughout the whole semester. The test consist of multiple choice and short response. He gives you tons of reading packets plus readings in the textbook. No study guide. He treats the class like micro economic is your major. Keep looking save yourself the headache.
Tough grader.
Good Professor
By far the best professor I've ever had. Because of his class I changed my major to Econ. He writes his own books and makes them easy to understand. I read and re-read chapters constantly and recorded the lectures, so it is a lot of studying, but I got A's on all of the tests. If you study you will pass, if you don't you may fail. Its that simple.
Great professor overall and is open to speak with you. He has no homework just 4 test which makes or breaks your grade. The answers he is looking for arent based on your own thoughts but what his reading material is about. The more you write the better you are as long as you dont get off topic. Dont fail a test if you want to pass the class.
Professor Jack Chambless is the my most hated yet respected professor at Valencia. I took him for Micro, and I wish have took him for Macro . I worked so hard to earned a B in this man class. It is crazy lol. This man knows his stuff. I learned so much from his class, and I would definately recommend him anyone taking Economics.
Great teacher! I took Macroeconomics online but I wish I had taken it in class. There are only 3 tests. No homework. He posts 1 discussion board a week (non mandatory) but if you do all of them, will boost you up to 3% more to get to the next grade letter if you need it. Watch all his videos, do the diccussion boards, read the textbook an A
Prof Chambless is a once in a lifetime prof. Not only did he actually write the textbook, but he teaches in a way that sometimes you get caught up and forget to takes notes (which btw are very important). Never had homework, only 3 test so it's key to study and read ALOT. but he makes it interesting and engaging. If you want to LEARN take him!
He is good teacher
If you strongly disagree with the libertarian philosophy, this course would probably not be for you. If you do agree, this course would affirm all your beliefs. However, the point of college is to promote critical thinking, so enter this course full of skepticism, and constantly cross reference everything to obtain your own personal conclusions.
Professor Chambless is hands down the best professor I have ever had. If you really want to learn take him. He only gives 3 exams the whole semester so if you skip class and don't read you will not pass. Not only are his lectures outstanding but he actually gives great life lessons. I will be taking him for Micro in the spring.
Probably my favorite professor of all time. Very passionate on the subject of economics and taught me more than probably any other teacher ever has. Not an easy A class but I never really had a problem myself. 3 tests make up the only grades so be prepared. Take him if you want to learn. Don't if you cant handle a challenge.
Mr. Chambless is an outstanding professor but taking this class online was the hardest thing I have ever done. It gets very confusing and you aren't very sure what to study or what to do, and you don't have the chance to ask him questions face to face. All in all, he's a great teacher but DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE.
I took his class in 2001, and think enough of him to come back and rate him now. If you want a challenge, if you want to be interested in the subject, if you are willing do know more about economics, take this man's classes.
Terrible professor, don't take him.
Professor Chambless is one of the toughest professors I've ever had, but he also taught me so much more than anyone else. His lectures are eye-opening, his textbook is easy to read, and he makes the material interesting. It's very tough, and you're only graded by 3 exams, but if you show up and put in the effort you'll get a lot out of this course.
Save yourself the stress and headache. This professor does not want to see any students succeed. No homework just 3 test the entire semester. It took him one month to grade the first test so you have no idea how you are doing in the class. I have never failed a class and he was the first. STAY AWAY FROM THIS TERRIBLE PROFESSOR!
Professor Chambless is the best professor you will ever have! He will inspire you to to be your best, enlighten you about practical points you will use in any walk of life and prepare you to succeed in Economics at the next level. This class will help you understand the history of Economics and how it applies to todays political economy as well.
This professor really opened my eyes to see this world in a whole new way. Absolutely amazing lectures, easy to understand and hilarious. When you get done with his class you will have learned more about this world and life then you ever did during high school. Professor Chambless is a must take!
Dont miss this opportunity to take Professor Chambless! His class will make you laugh, cry, gasp, and completely change the way you see the world! If you study, you will pass this class and an A is very achievable. But what you learn in this class will stay with you for life! Professor Chambless is a MUST-TAKE! Best Professor ever!
I have read and reread so many chapters and he will have you watch videos of the lectures. Meanwhile you are only graded on 3 tests. If you fail/ not do well on even one of those there is no saving your grade. You dont have any assignments. Just big bulky tests that are made to make sure you will get confused. Ive never failed a course till this.
Professor Chambless is an amazing professor. He teaches very well, however, he only provides three really hard tests during the semester. You will learn a lot from him but probably will fail his class. There is no homework, no quizzes, nothing. He is the kind of professor that wants the students to learn, not just pass the class.
Be careful taking this professor's class! He will basically tell you that you need to figure out how to read on your own and you will receive no further assistance from him at all. BE CAUTIOUS - if you're looking for a prof who mentors/teaches you and is willing to help then DO NOT take this man!!!
Great professor overall, lectures are very interesting and engaging. only 3 test the whole semester. take this class if you have the extra time to study hard on your own.
He is honestly my favorite professor that i have ever taken. I took his macro class and failed but, i tried again with micro and had to work insanely hard to get a C. A giant portion of the class did withdraw, and the class is very difficult but, it you're willing to work then you will do fine. Honestly though, having a good sense of humor helps
Don't be scared off by the bad reviews. Professor Chambless is the best professor I have ever had. The class isn't easy and you have to work really hard. He wrote the textbook and he writes his tests, so if you aren't willing to read, don't bother taking him. His lectures were interesting and he lets you record them w voice memos. I recommend!!
This is the only class that I have ever failed. All of the tests feel like trick questions and he offers no guidance on how to improve your grade. I don't mind the reading but it feels like there is a disconnect between the reading, the tests, and how he grades. Pass on this professor and save yourself some stress.
Your grade hinges on 3 exams. So you have no idea how you are doing until you take one and if you dont pass that you have no hope of pulling that grade up. He is impossible to meet with, when you do he is condescending and very unwilling to help. His advice to me was try harder. If you take online you will still have to go to campus for exams
I used the schools resources to get extra help and still failed. If you like to struggle through a class, get no feedback, and cry over your GPA then go ahead and take this professor. He is the worst professor Ive ever had.
There's 3 exams the whole semester, along with optional discussions. If you're taking this class online like I am be prepared to read and learn everything on your own. Since there's no other assignments you won't even be sure if you're learning the right or wrong thing. I think the lectures are alright it's just how the grading system is set up.
Took this class because there were no other options available, big mistake... There is A LOT of reading, you will definitely use the textbook plus having to read other articles and watch hour long videos. You are only graded on 3 tests the whole semester, no homework, assignments, or projects. If you fail one test, you're done.
Professor Chambless macroeconomics class is one of those classes that, even if it was one of the last classes at Valencia, you should never take it. He is very arrogant and barely responds to emails. He only has 3 tests and you have to read 3-4 chapters, watch ridiculous videos and movies, for each test. He gives no help when asked for it.
He is the best professor you will have in college! I have had him for three classes and his class offers amazing extra credit opportunities that can bring your grade up two letter grades. He is very helpful and cares about his students. He responds to email 7 days a week. Getting a good grade is very achievable! Excellent!!
This class is difficult but you will learn a lot about economics. To pass you will have to read the book and watch the videos. At first I struggled in his class after the 1st test and midterm, and was tempted to withdraw because I thought I would fail, but I worked hard for the final and it paid off when I saw my grade and that I passed.
Professor Chambless is not as bad as everyone says. As long as you do what youre suppose to and prepare for the tests you will pass. Also he makes the class very interesting and no homework just 3 tests!! Good for people who dont procrastinate. I myself was scared to take him after the reviews I read but he really is an amazing professor
You're warned in the first day of class about the difficulties of the class. It's your CHOICE: Drop->Okay Go with it -> Study and don't complain Grades can be changed. But what you learn will benefit you for a life-time. Economics seems to be boring. But under professor's perspectives, you will see it lively He is one of a kind. Thank you Prof. Q
Inspirational, i highly recommend him
Grade is made up of 3 exams THATS IT. If you fail the first exam you will fail the class. Professor Chambless makes great strides to ensure your success however the course is quite challenging regardless. There is a hefty extra credit essay offered 3/4 through the semester. Love the professor hate the class
LITERALLY THE WORST PROFESSOR EVER! His entire class is based on 3 exams and if you fail all of them that's on you. He doesn't prep nor teaches anything, all he does is gives links to weird youtube videos and make you read chapters from his book. If you can teach yourself feel free to take this class but if you cant, DON'T- look for a new professor
His live classes are better than online because you get to see him lecture. If you are are self-motivated and treat this like college online will work for you. 3 tests, put 30 point extra credit project and points for discussions. Great book and lectures - short and long but you have to work. Responds to emails super fast and is very helpful.
If you really want to learn and be treated like a college student take this class. All lectures apply to the real world. Funny, high-energy and brutally honest. You MUST read the book! Be prepared to have your views challenged. Makes no apologies for having high expectations. Study - you pass. Lazy - you fail but you will learn a ton!!!
Tough to say you should take this class. Making an A or B is not easy. Way heavy on long lecture videos and text reading - way more than other professors and too much I think. This is a community college and he acts like it is a university! If you want an easier class they are out there. Can say the book is not boring + he tries to help you.
He is probably the best professor you will ever have. It is too bad Valencia is all online now because his lectures are incredible. Good online too but it is not the same. 3 tests, discussion points and extra credit is your grade and if you do not read the book you are finished so read! Answers emails fast. Not easy but worth it.
Took online course which consists of 3 tests and 1 extra credit assignment. There are discussions that you can respond to in order to help bring the grade up. This class heavily relies on the textbook and then having to understand the information, analyze it, and then apply it to the real world. Exams are based on applying topics to the real world.
Right now all his classes are online with the Covid stuff. Harder online but has all his lectures videoed so you get everything you would in live classes. Super smart and knows his stuff. MUST Read the book to pass!! Makes this clear day one but believe it or you sink fast. Great book, will email you right away if you have issues. Good prof!
Jack Chambless is a great teacher and an amazing professor with world-class economic knowledge. However, his class structure is extremely difficult to pass as there are very few options to cushion your grade meaning there is no room for error whatsoever. 3 Exams, 1 Extra Credit (+10 points), and +3 points for discussion posts. No HW grades.
The best economics professor at Valencia, if you are a business major you must take his classes if you do the extra credit essays, read and understand his textbook you will be fine!
Had Prof. Chambless' class in fall of 2020 - he was available all the time - email over weekend, phone calls, zoom, you name it. Very helpful and friendly. But, and it is a huge but, even though tests are open book take home with 12 hours to finish most of my study partners failed. If you do not read ahead of time you are sunk. MUST READ !!!
Prof. Jack C. has had online economics classes for 20 years (syllabus says that) and you will see that not having in-class teaching is ok because all of his material is on videos of him teaching in classroom & other places. Makes it much easier to pass than other online classes so dont be afraid of online with him - great class
I know at first, you may be reluctant to take Mr. Chambless due to the three-test grading system that he is known for. Trust me, IT IS WORTH IT!!! He presents the topics in really engaging ways, and is super interesting to listen to, even if you're not totally interested in economics. His grading system is SUPER lenient and he is very clear!!!
Professor Chambless was the best professor I have had the honor to have. His class is a lot of work but if you stay up to date and do the work you will do fine. His lectures are really easy to follow because he makes this not so interesting topic enjoyable. He only really has three grades which are tests which are very well made.
I really wish I took his class in person because online was a lot more challenging to stay on track. Gives some discussions for extra points and those are the only things keeping you on track towards the test. Tests are very tricky, having his textbook and watching all recommended videos is a must to pass. It really made me understand econ though.
A truly motivational professor. For online classes be prepared to watch his YouTube lectures, which are long but very helpful as well as practice the QUIZES. Make sure you understand the material; read and re-read because you will not find answers to his exams on Internet. My first B so far among A's, but also the best professor I ever had.
Prof. Chambless doesn't assign any homework at all. The course itself isn't very organized and when I emailed asking a genuine question he wouldn't answer he told me to just find it in the syllabus Exams are really hard and if you don't pass, and considering there's not other graded assignments, you can fail very easily. A LOT of reading. Don't rec
I have been in class just over a month and am working like crazy to keep up. Can't put anything off - he treats it like a real college class not like high school and nothing like most of the easy 'A' joke classes at this school. Must keep on top of readings, discussion videos to do well but he is a solid professor who works as hard for students.
Best professor I have ever had anywhere. Great lectures and textbook. He wrote it so you have to read it to pass. Not many grades - three m.c. exams and big ex. credit paper on a movie you watch. Don't let reviews scare you. Just do the reading, study and you can make a good grade. Most of my classmates were whining lazy babies & didn't work.
His tests are really difficult. Rather than asking for a definition of concepts or text-related questions, all of his questions require you to relate the concepts to life scenarios. In one semester he expects you to think like him and answer questions like him who has been doing this for 32 years. He cares for himself and his book, not the students
Wish I had this class online because my friends said classes are better live with him. Loved his lectures on video though and he adjusts for Covid with 12 hrs to take each test and open book use. Just read, do Zoom meetings with him and he will help you a ton. Good to have his book and access to lots of experience. Nice and helpful.
If you choose this class, you have to make it a priority. Mark my words. This is a very difficult class - he only grades 3 exams and gives 1 large extra credit to improve your final grade. If you do not put your BEST effort in, you will not pass. Tests can be very challenging; but you WILL learn in his classes. I feel like a veteran passing.
Professor Chambless has 0 graded homework and only has 3 exams which make up ur entire grade. The exams are fully open book and you have no time limit. HOWEVER, they are LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE if you did not pay attention to his recorded lectures and content. You will actually gain knowledge in this class but its hard. GREAT PROF NOT AN EASY A
Professor Chambless is a professor that teaches his subject well and tries his best to keep it fun and interesting for the students while keeping it relevant. Make sure to watch the lectures in the weekly discussions and to read the textbook as well. You only have 3 test grades in the class + EC(which can be a lifesaver). Probably better in person.
12 hours to take each test, from home with your book and access to his lectures!! Fast grader, gives good advice and ex. credit chance. Huge number of videoed lectures by him for each chapter to help with learning and wrote his own book that seems like he is right there talking to you. All in all great online experience - recommend highly...
One of the best professors Ive ever had! He does an excellent job of stressing the importance for you to grasp the material in the classroom so you can apply it out in the real world. Ive already signed up for microeconomics in the Spring and Im really looking forward to it!
School comes naturally to me. Not this class. I can usually rely on skimming the text and watching lectures to pass but for this one I really had to study and read the text. Your whole grade is based on 3 tests but theres an 8 page essay on a movie that can give you 10% on your FINAL GRADE! You've got to watch the lectures (1-2 hours) and read text
This is the hardest but most rewarding class I have ever taken. Work hard or you won't pass. Graded on only 3 tests. But he offers multiple extra credit opportunities. You have to read the textbook and watch the lectures to pass. He is willing to help you pass and work hard though. I recommend if you actually want to learn the information.
This class only has three tests and one extra credit assignment. The main reading is going to be his textbook. I have no problem with a lot of reading. After reading his textbook and reading The Law and watching his two hour long lectures, barely anything on those tests made any sense. Better off taking this class with a different professor.
My favorite professor of ALL time. This class is not an easy A, but regardless if you could care less of what you retain or not you NEED to take this. Information applicable to real life instead of random, thoughtless multiple choice questions you can find on quizlet. 3 Tests and 1 extra credit assignment that can boost your grade by 2 Grades!
He only grades 3 EXAMS and 1 EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENT. In order to pass, you need a total of 201 pts, equivalent to a 67 (C) overall. So if you get less than a 67 on ANY exams, YOU WILL FAIL. This class is also online so unless you are a strong tests taker DO NOT TAKE JACK CHAMBLESS. You are better off taking him in person or NOT AT ALL.
This professor was the worst ever. Nothing taught, discussed, or interactions the entire semester. Tests are garbage, creates these in his own words in the form of "multiple choice" answers which are compiled, twisted, and stupid. Self-taught" and pre-recorded lectures. Three exams and no scores provided on anything until the course is over.
I was one of a few to make an A with at least 2 tests of 100%. Back before Covid exams were closed book, 1 hr. 20min. Now he gives take home tests and allows you 12 hrs open book open notes and access to his onlive videos. Far easier to score well than "back in the day" but you have to read a lot. Lectures are mostly current and greatg quality.
Before getting in this class looked at Valencias FACULTY FRONT DOOR page online about him. Says he has been picked Professor of the Year 7 times, a record at Valencia. You will see why.. Great lectures, super funny and he cares about his job more than you usually get. 3 tests are it so you have to read, read read. Dont miss his macro class great
had his online and face to face class (macro and micro). Live is great, online is very good. lots of reading no matter what you pick and he does not care if you are a duel enrollment student - you will get wiped out if you do not study a bunch. But, 32 points of extra credit, to go with 3 tests, 100 pts. each and all you need is a 67 to pass.
If I could give a rate of 0, I would. I really like to study, but this teacher just takes away the desire to do it... DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM, He evaluates the entire class based on only 3 exams and that's ALL, and he expects you to read a book he wrote, the one that costs 150+. Just awful
Here is the deal...most students, especially dual-enrolled high schoolers expect this to be easy This professor has VERY HIGH standards. Tells students an 'A' in 2022 will mean the same as an 'A' when he started teaching back in 1991 and he is serious. If you are stupid and/or lazy or both you will fail miserably. Best lectures you can get!!
Professor Chambless is not an easy A but you will learn in his class. I was forced to take him online but he was communicative, and clear on his assignments and if you work hard you can pass his class. I bombed the first test but I worked very hard studied my butt off, did the extra credit and my final grade was B.
Great professor. He will break down economics and make it understandable. His tests are somewhat difficult, but he allows 12h to take the test, and open book. So as long you go to his lectures, and take great notes and read all the material you will be good.
TAKE HIS LIVE CLASS FOR A GREAT EXPERIENCE!! Will not believe how good his lectures are. All real world stuff, nothing boring, great class you will not forget. Author of his own book that feels like he is right there teaching you as you read. A+++++++
I've been in his class for nearly half a semester now and couldn't be happier.Chambless arranges the coursework in a way that's engaging and its completely possible to get an A if you make use of all the course materials. There's a 30pt extra credit you can take advantage of. Also do the recommended KHQ quizzes if you're online.
Professor Chambless's course was AMAZING! This class was difficult and you need to keep up with the readings/lectures. His lectures are very engaging and you really learn a lot about the economy. I couldn't be happier taking this class. I wish I would've taken it in person. Do the discussion posts and KHQ quizzes to help study! It's so worth it.
Professor Chambless's class was amazing. I took it online for the summer term and this has been one of the hardest but most eye-opening classes I've ever taken. He provided lectures that were clear and concise to understand the complex content. You cannot stay behind because that'll cost you; he has an optional 30-point extra credit paper.
If you wan to loose your will to learn, then this is it. The most tedious process to take an exam and how to submit it. This professor has the toughest approach via canvas, he gives the instructions in the most roughest and rudeness tone. Only 3 tests during the whole semester, the most unexciting class with this professor, really.
Great live and online..had both. Great, up to date lectures, take home exams, extra credit that is huge. Loves his job.. you can easily see this. Nice and helpful. Very fast to respond.
I don't necessarily feel that Chambless is bad at teaching, but he lacks traits that would make him a good professor. He clearly knows this since he flexes a low pass rates/RMP score. Don't buy his recommended copy of The Law, PDFs are free online. You could skip the main textbook if you needed to. Wish I could say more, take a different prof imo
Pretty straightforward on how to do well. His lectures are great so is the book (which he is the author of so you better read it - don't buy it from Valencia unless you want to wait forever..) He really knows his stuff and responds to emails fast. 3 tests, huge e.c. paper on a great movie. If you procrastinate you are sunk day one.
I am writing this review 2 years after taking Prof. Chambless's course, I must say that this course open my eyes to alot of the false narrative we hear in the world today. From Rent control, to governments role in free markets, to price ceiling and etc. I owe my ability to think of the effects an implemented policy has on another . Thank you Prof C
look for another professor. I didnt mind being challenged, but it takes an insane level of commitment and time to perform really well in this class. you will only pass if you watch the lectures and do the discussions and they take at least 3.5 hours of my time (each discussion). only one extra credit assignment that's 7-10 pages.
this class is a great big "welcome to college" moment that high school will not prepare you for. 3 exams that make you think and even though you get 12 hours, open book, open notes, access to his lectures during the exam it is still hard. If you want a challenge take him. if you want a blowoff class you better go somewhere else - or else!!!!!!
Only 3 exams! They were so difficult. His lectures are long and boring. Please save yourself and choose another professor. This class is insane! No homework and nothing else to help your grade! RUN! This is your warning!
It is just hard to know how exactly to review this class and prof. Has been teaching at VCC for over 30 years but still seems to have energy and humor and keeps your interest. Class has a lot of pre-recorded short and longer lectures which are great for learning. but, true you only get 3 tests + one 30 pt. ex. credit based on a movie. A+ prof
My mom had his class in the 90's then my brother and I had micro and macro with him! great class with a good sense of humor, understands young people (makes fun of social media stuff, etc) but really knows is stuff inside and out. Wish all profs were as dedicated and worked as hard. Exams make you think, so do not let open book make you lazy.
Chambless is a great teacher. If you do your work, you will honestly learn a lot. However, this class is going to be extremely difficult if you are a procrastinator, trust me as I am one. You are only given 3 tests throughout the whole course. You actually have to read and understand the material in order to pass. You're also given video lectures.
He's not terrible, but he's not for everyone. 3 tests in total and 7-10 page extra credit paper due at the end. Weekly not required discussion posts. Watch all the videos and read the book! He is very opinionated can go on for a bit, but it's not too bad. Definitely make sure you're a good test taker before signing up for his class.
Took this class my Senior year of HS via Dual Enrollment. Don't. Professor Chambless , by all accounts, is far better in person. Entire grade depends on 3 exams and they are pretty difficult. I hadn't gotten a B my entire HS career until this class. He's a funny professor who gives great lectures but his style translates poorly to online learning.
I had his class twice and passed once I figured out that he has college expectations, not high school. Gave us over 12 hours to complete each exam open book and 30 ex. Credit pts. Only laziness or stupidity will keep you from passing. He works hard to provide great lectures for his online classes.
easily the hardest class i've taken as a straight-a high school senior. 3 25 question tests that you have 12 hours to complete (open book/note) (got a 84, 70, and 88), 30 pt. extra cred paper (7-10 pg), weekly discussions and lectures + textbook reading. do all of the above and you'll pass. you'll learn a lot but if you want an a, take a diff prof.
I have been challenged more in this class than any osther. I wish more teachers took pride in their work the way Chambless does so students can get a REAL education and their money's worth. Tests are very hard you have to be able to think and know the material. Your grade reflects how much effort you put into learning. Cannot just slide through.
This was the 4th class that I have taken w/ Professor Chambless (micro, macro, Biological economics and "Oil, Economics and Terrorism") and I can honestly say that he is the best mentor I have ever had.
Prof. Chambless is not the nicest professor I have ever had, but he has taught me more than any other teacher, professor, or instructor I have ever had. His teaching procedures are unorthodox but funny, successful and down to earth. I understand so much better how the economic world workd even though I dreaded economics.
I only took this course because I needed a social science credit for my degree and I thought I would hate it, but as it turned out, this class was probably the single most helpful class I have ever had in my life. Professor Chambless is a PHENOMINAL economics teacher. He has a nonsense and practical approach to teaching INTERESTING CLASS!
If you have a busy schedule I don't recommend this professor. He posts discussions once a week which isn't counted for a grade. You get graded on 3-4 huge tests and if you fail one of them it'll take a long time to bring the grade up. He himself told students if they did not pass an exam then he recommends you to drop out. I'd pick someone else.
Professional teacher, that made each class like the most interesting, educational insightul epiphany about life in general. A real eye and mind opening course. As a result I started reading about different countries economic systems. It improved my advancement in relationships, personal accomplishments and goals.
I literally have never felt more enlightened in a classroom. I took macroeconomics at Mississippi State and it was extremely boring. This class was interesting, entertaining and educational. Mr. Chambless presented the material in a challenging & entertaining way.
Professor CHambless actually seemed to care about his subject. This is one of the few classes I actually looked forward to going to. THe information presented was the most useful and thought provoking I have received so far at Valencia. Not easy in any way, but very rewarding if proper effort is put into it. Good humor and intensity.
Professor Chambless is a wonderful professor that has opened my eyes and my mind. He gives 200% of himself everyday & actually makes learning economics fun by applying it to the real world. He is full of knowledge & opinions but he always makes time to listen to the opinions of other & that is important.
Good but his methods of teaching didn't work with me. I took this class for dual enrollment as my final credit and failed, having to retake it. He mentioned that my grade was "not his responsibility" which is true but he would barely reply to my emails for help. It's hard to be motivated for a hard class when he didn't seem to care about my success
"Life changing" for better or for worse prof. Chambless tells it like it is and his only hope is that you come out of his class thinking and not feeling. HIs classes are taught from a true economical point of view - not his personal beliefs -and that sets him apart. He is not afraid to step on toes nor does he sugar coat the truth.
Mr. Chambless is by for the BEST teacher I have EVER had. He challenged me, and expanded my mind in ways I have never been exposed to. I would rather take his class and get a "C" than take economics with another teacher and get an "A". Not only did I learn about macroeconomics but I learned many things that will help me in my life.
THE best professor I have ever had. Explains his ideas clearly and answers all questions any student has. He takes a look from both sides of economics and explains it effectively. My biggest question is why Chambless is at a community college and not a major university where he can help more young minds understand economics.
This is the best teacher/professor I have ever had. I would rather take this class with Mr. Chambless and get a C than get an A with an easy teacher. I recommend in person 100%, unless you can sit down and watch hour long lectures on your computer and understand what he was talking about maybe you can do online. He gives you plenty of time on tests
Chambless is an excellent teacher. He is very enthusiastic about the course. Throughout the course he was well prepared and organized. It it was not for him, I would have a D average going into the final exam. His teaching has made a "world" of difference in my grade. Keep up the good work Chambless. You are an excellent role model.
I really enjoyed how the class was the "opposite" of regular classes in such a way that you yearn for knowledge. It is rare to find such a passionate teacher who truly believes in what he teaches. I really enjoyed the class even though I didn't do good. But thats my own fault.
Do not take his online class. 3 tests, 1 extra credit paper. Was only allowed to email him AFTER the semester was over to ask what I got on my 10 page extra credit paper just for him to say he did not know where it was and to reply with, and I quote, "I think it was inadvertantly shredded with other documents." Pretty rude and entitled professor.
Does not overload you with stupid busy work three not too hard mul choice tests and big ex. Credit great online lectures. He is a rare prof who works hard. Super organized easy to pass this class.
I had to drop this class but it was just because I did not pay attention to his syllabus or intro videos on how to pass. Had friends who did well who put in the work. Great textbook, lectures and super fast in responding to emails. Will take again when I can get my act together but he makes you see what a real college class is...
Not recommended for an online class.
Great class with clear instructions about how to pass. Very good and funny lectures, great book that he wrote that feels like he is right there explaining everything to you. You will pass if you do not fall behind and treat it like a real class, not high school.
Do not listen to the reviews, this class is hard. The opportunity cost of taking this class exceeds the amount of effort required. Take a normal economics class if you're taking this for a transfer requirement. Only 3 tests, one extra credit, but you'll have a hard time studying and finding what's on the tests. Too comprehensive for my own good.
I don't know why he has such a high rating. If you think "oh this class is great because I don't need to do homework!" trust me, it's more bad than good. His class solely depends on 3 tests and 1 extra credit assignment. If you're known to procrastinate, good luck. I had to drop out to save my GPA. DONT TAKE HIS CLASS.
This class was HARD, especially online. Your entire grade is based on 3 tests and an extra credit paper (which is worth a good amount but is a ton of work). The tests aren't regurgitating information, you have to understand it enough to apply it. I learned a lot, it was just more work than it was worth and wasn't my style, especially online.
if you want to save yourself a couple tears DO NOT TAKE IT.
I would not take his class as a dual-enrolled student. I am much older than other students and this class was like when I was in college back when. He makes you earn everything but the exams are open book which makes it easier if you read. Very good speaker but online economics is not for everyone.
I made a 100 on all three exams by applying what I learned to recent/current events throughout the term. This class requires dedication to succeed, but do not let the textbook or reviews scare you. I took macro and micro from Professor Chambless; his lectures are phenomenal and his passion for economics shows. By far the best professor at Valencia.
Goes way past other profs with his lectures and outside help. 3 tests all had 12 hours to finish and bonus questions for easy pts. just read +watch his really good videos and study to pass. not an easy class but I learned way more than in others. Inspired me to actually learn.
Amazing professor! I'm dual enrolled, learned so much. Lectures are engaging- makes difficult concepts easy to understand. Enjoyed reading his book (wrote himself). No-nonsense approach and caring- doesn't waste time. Very organized- know what to expect, how to achieve success. Got 2 102s and a 95 on exams. Read, watch vids- make sense of material.
He is the most genuine teacher I have ever had in my life! Jack Chambless shared with you a broad knowledge that will help you not only in the aspect of economics but for life. It is a great challenge to take this class, but it is worth it. Take this class if you want to learn and take away great knowledge to improve our society and world.
Graded on 3 tests(100 pts each) and 7-10 page Extra credit paper(worth 30 points) only. If you can't motivate yourself to study, please don't take the test.
Grade is based on 3 tests no homework/discussion, each test is worth 100 points so you HAVE to study! each test is based on 3-4 chapters in the book and the lectures. Has two options for extra credit, option one is a summary and analysis of two speeches you have to write 3-4 pages for EACH speech and option two is a 7-10 page essay on a movie.
I have some personal gripes with his ideologies, but as a teacher, he isn't bad. I know most people don't like that your grade is contingent on only 3 tests, but as long as you at least read the textbook, you'll probably pass. You mostly just have to know how to apply what the book says to real life. The plus side is that there is no busy work.
Signed up for his online class last semester. When is book arrived I flipped to the back cover and read the comments. Then I saw why these people said what the said. Just a fantastic book the he wrote to go with timely videos he does all over the place. Some are a little dated from when he was younger but are still helpful. Great class A++++
Besides the fact that there were only 3 tests through the whole summer, he was away for most of the semester (personal matters). Very insensitive when it came to encouraging students. He sent an email a bit over the withdrawal deadline encouraging people to withdraw the class. 2/3 exams are a mirror of the two economics classes he teaches, look out
Best professor I have ever had. He expects you to read and understand the concepts but his lectures are among the best. If you are looking to just get by with little effort this is not the professor for you. If you are looking to learn the material from an expert who truly cares about what he is teaching, I could not recommend him more.
This class is a challenge, but the professor's engaging lectures and helpful textbook make it worthwhile. Utilizing unstuckstudy ai alongside the course materials can really boost your understanding and performance. Attend class, study diligently, and you'll come away with valuable knowledge.
Three exams with about 15 or so bonus/extra credit points . Tons of textbook reading but the book is like he is teaching right there for you. Does his own videos and lectures that help a lot but must watch or you will miss important stuff for the exams. P:rof. Chambless works to make the class connect to the real world but the tests are no joke.
Amazing professor loved his lectures will take his class again next semester!
Professor Chambless seems to be a really good professor, and I hope to take his class in person one day. But I think his textbook and the way the quizzes work are a little confusing for online classes. I did great in his class, but I'm still confused about how the quizzes and discussions work. His videos for each assignment are amazing.
Top of the field prof, His online classes are mostly watching prerecorded lectures however those lectures are very insightful and if you just watch them and do the ungraded discussion posts questions you will have no trouble in passing the class. PUT TESTS IN CALENDERS!! (missed 1/3 exams -> 66.7/100) MAKE SURE TEST HAS CORRECT FORMAT AND INFO!!
I'd take his class again. I learned a lot and applied myself. I participated in optional discussions and took detailed notes. He's knowledgeable. Expect to read and watch lengthy, helpful lecture videos. Tests are open-book and multiple-choice, but challenging. His class emphasizes application over memorization. He can be condescending and brash.
Spring '25 was a lucky one - i got to hear his real time lectures on tariffs and all of the crazy stuff going on all over the world. Great lectures that inspire you to read and think. It was weird but he would keep brining in books to class to give away for free - tons of them! Totally lucked out with this professor.
he is awesome! take him, you will have a lot of reading but it is worth it. I took him with macro and micro and he is a really great professor.
Had Prof. Chambless online and live. Live is hilarious and inspiring every day! up to the minute lectures covering everything happening in the world. Unreal energy even though he is older/has been teaching a long time. Online was good because of short (some not short) video lessons he has filmed all over the place and in a room. Each +++
Amazing professor. He gives very interesting and inspiring lectures while also causing me to rethink the world. He'd keep up with current economic events currently going on and tie them into class aswell making it feel so much more interesting.
He is a professor I'm really grateful for that I'm about to finish his course on. I'm going to be honest though, if you are looking for an easy class, this is not the one to take. Your grade is dependent on 3 tests. I'm a busy high school student though so I think his class is manageable and extremely interesting. I absolutely loved his lectures.
BEFORE TAKING THIS CLASS MAKE SURE YOU'RE A GOOD TEST TAKER. This class relies on 3 grades Exam 1, Exam 2, and Exam 3! You submit your answers on a word document through email. BUT make sure it is the correct document because he refuses to let you resubmit. I had to get two deans from two different campuses to get my test regraded.
Very kind and helpful..responds fast and is a great speaker. 3 exams with bonus points. Not hard to make a good grade. Take home exams are a bonus. Best class I have ever had.
First you need to purchase a book made by him. There is only 3 test and he grades heavily, I did great in my first two takes and he makes the last one so difficult that is barely going to pass.
His final exam was brutal. If you do not read teh book and watch every lecture video AND read the articles he posts you are sunk. Very good lectures and book though. Would take again but an A or even a B is not that easy to get..
Very hard during test taking
I did not do well but his class was better than any online class I have had. he does his own lectures instead of just putting up Youtube or other peoples work. Comes across very serious and his tests are pretty challenging. Learned a ton though.
I went into his Econ class having zero interested in economics. Now I read the WSJ everyday. Professor Chambless is incredible.
Best classes I have taken at Valencia. I am a DE student and while the reading is long and your grade is based on 3 tests, an A is very attainable if you are willing to do the work. Mr Chambless is clearly a passionate teacher and his lectures are super relevant and eye opening. If you want to get the most out of the class, pick him, very rewarding
Professor Chambless is amazing. I can't recommend him enough. The only grades are three exams, but they are open note since Chambless designs his own questions. He assigns hours of lectures he's delivered (super engaging), textbook readings, and articles. If you're disciplined, the exams are not that difficult. Sometimes extra credit questions.
Insanely hard tests, he does not prepare students at all.
Had him in summer of '25 and fall of '25. Tests were much harder in the fall after he told us that he had written exams that AI could not answer. ROUGH! But, his class is a real college class for people who want to learn a ton. Must watch videos posted, read book and more. Great speaker and responds fast to ques. Take home exams..
First off, he only grades based on 3 tests, and that's it. He makes you buy HIS book, and everything is about HIS book. The tests are insanely hard, and I felt underprepared while taking the test, even though I did everything he told the class to do. Just don't take him; there are better professors out there. Don't waste your time or money.
Best speaker I have ever heard - live classes are best. Old school with 3 tests, no dropping low scores, etc. but worth it if you want to learn. NOT a class or prof. to take if you want to coast and slack off. Tests are tough but 3 hour take home open book open note..
Try to take face-to-face. He has lectures for online too which are good, but live is amazing. tons of passion for this subject. Great sense of humor and clear about everything. Exams are hard but if you read and come to class you can pass or better. Best prof at this school
Super friendly and generous..he kept bringing tons of books to our class all semester to give away for free. TONS.. great lectures, funny but tests are very challenging if you are used to using AI..dont,. you will fail unless you study. An A or B is doable but not easy. you will learn more in this class than anywhere else Great prof
He is the best. Top of line. 100 percent recommend he truly cares for his students
I really enjoyed this class because it was only graded on 3 big tests once a month. There is still assignments to do but they aren't apart of the grade. Even if you choose to do this course online like I did, the exam is open on one day from 8am-8:30pm so make sure to plan ahead. If you're a confident test taker this class is for you.
If you have any obligations other than school, choose a different professor. Grades only consist of 3 exams but you have to study for several hours every day to feel prepared and I still struggled. The exams are based off of the textbook that he wrote along with several YouTube videos and articles he sends out throughout the semester.
I just took the hardest G___d____ test I have ever had. Great professor with unreal lectures. Works his --- off to teach well but my god his tests are hard. worked like a dog for passing grade. Take him if you want to learn but welcome to college is all I have to say with this professor! he does not b.s.. day one tells you it will be hard
fINALS are over and all I can say is this is the hardest class, but best class at Valencia. Prof. Chambliss not only knows his stuff but he is a phenom in the classroom with inspiring, funny and incredible lectures. yes, exams only but his class is eye opening to the point of being life changing. Dont miss it.
TORTURE. Took final exam, still don't know my grade. Grades r due in 36 hours.Won't know if I passed class or not till December 9 or December 10 (took test December 5).I HATED this class made me cry so much. HE ONLY GIVES 3 EXAMS that's it. Couldn't drop it cuz I already dropped another class, was forced to take since it would've affected my fafsa.
Every professor at this school should have to watch him teach for a day. Best prof. I have ever had. Fair, no b.s., hard exams but worth every dime. Must read and study. he is super fast with emails and will help if you ask. Very nice & approachable but again, he is old school and expects you to be a college student. A++
His exams are take home where u get 3 hours to complete. Open book and his videos can be seen the day of the test too. But, AI is NO HELP.. Hard class but the book is like he is right there explaining stuff and his lectures are entertainment and educating. best class i have had here and much better than high school econ
Do NOT take this class if you cannot handle not using AI and dislike application question tests. He grades by 3 tests, nothing else. I studied for a WEEK straight and got a 68% on my final exam, leaving me with a 64% final grade. I am warning you now!!
Chambless literally changed my view on economics probably forever. I didn't like his class at the beginning but after dedicating my time I learned so much. Go to his office hours, very caring and takes his time with you. You will be so grateful you took his class. Your whole grade is based off tests so study well. Know the textbook inside and out.
